Friday Favorites + Peer Pressure Andrew Please;)

Maddie ran a crazy fast time trial 5k on Wednesday so I was happy that she needed a really easy day yesterday so we were able to run together:)  My friends are all starting their training for the St. George Marathon (so far, it’s still on) and Andrew is also wanting to sign up (it is his idea but feel free to peer pressure him into signing up in the comments) and I can’t wait to see what they all do there.

We will definitely be at the marathon cheering whether or not Andrew is running the race because if that race is happening, I am not going to miss out on being there!

Skye requested a spa day.  Please note that Skye is bandaid free for the first time since 2019.

IMG 3951

And then for one of the big kid’s chore we had them watch Skye for a bit so we could have a quiet lunch date together at home.

IMG 3966

I was out of bread for my precious 3 almond butter/jam sandwiches a day so Brooke and Knox gladly joined me with some free samples too.

IMG 3970

For dinner my neighbor’s food truck came to us!  He owns Marley’s and it hit the spot.  I had chicken fingers with fries…

IMG 3977

And then we all shared the world’s largest cookie.

IMG 3980

After dinner we hung outside for awhile until a strict 7:30 bedtime for the kids because it was one of those days!

I have a few Friday Favorites!

*Albion Fit dress:  I would like to call this dress one of my ‘Sick Reward Purchases.’  There were a few nights where I felt so sick and crummy about a month ago that I decided I deserved something new as a reward for making it through the day ha;).  I have a SIL that swears by Albion Fit and always has the cutest things on from them so I decided to get something that will always be a classic—> a black dress.  You can dress it up, dress it down and I love the gold zippers on the side.  The quality is amazing and I’m all about simplicity.

IMG 3956

*I just bought another one of these $18.50 dresses on Amazon too because I can’t get over how comfortable they are (not maternity).  I HIGHLY recommend these dresses, you won’t want to wear anything else.

*My favorite podcast episode from the week.  No joke, I’ll be listening to it again.

IMG 3943

*Go get these popsicles as soon as you possible can.  If I could mail them to you, I would.  They are even on sale right now at Costco.

*My sis-in-law sent me this and it made me SO happy.  I want to go on a run with her.  She is hilarious and the part about ‘past me planned this’… I couldn’t relate more ha.

*I have come down to my top two running socks.  I stuck with a few other brands for a few years but those socks would just get holes so easily… not these ones and these ones.  I also love that they both go up a bit higher so you don’t run into the problem of the back of your shoe rubbing your skin.   I’ve also come to love tall socks that hit mid-calf too.  Andrew bought me a few pairs of the Swiftwick kind and I’m in love with them.  I’m going to have some sweet tan lines but they are just so comfortable and a fun change.  Blister free and I love the compression going on in these socks.

PS whenever I wear black socks I think of Des Linden because she says that black socks are her pre-race superstition…

IMG 3611

*I’ve always loved the Levitate and used them for the majority of my first sub 3 training but the Levitate 3 are even better.  First, I just love these black ones and the bounce in these babies is amazing.  The upper portion of the shoe feels like it was made specifically for your foot because it just molds to you because of the sock-like build.   I wore them to the track on Wednesday and while they are heavier than what I normally do speed in, they definitely energized each step.  PS These shoes call for a taller sock (any of the ones above I shared) because the back does seem to come up higher than my other running shoes.

IMG 3614

*I love that Gwen Jorgensen is here in Utah training at altitude and I also love that she is talking about the importance of easy days in the vlog.  The slower I took my easy days, the faster I became.

*One of the amazing life lessons I’ve learned from Andrew—> dipping graham crackers in milk before bed.  It’s the perfect ending to the day.

Speaking of Ali on the Run, did I read her Instagram correctly yesterday? Your episode is the most downloaded of her entire series?? Just goes to show how admired you are and how many friends you have made all over the world from this space. Doesn’t surprise me! Have a great weekend!

Reply

I did see that and it shocked me, that is for sure! Thank you Tracy, that means a lot because I sure love each and every one of you a lot. I do not know how I got so lucky! Hope you have a beautiful Friday!

ISN’T THAT AWESOME?! It doesn’t surprise me at all!!! Janae, you are so loved, and that was the episode we did right after you ran your sub-3:00! Of course we were all dying to hear about! #1 on the podcast AND IN MY HEART. Awwwww.

OHMYGOSH I’m sandwiched in a conversation between my two internet BFFs. My mind is blown. My life is made. Love you, girlies!!

Those popsicles are the absolute best! we get them almost every grocery run.

I have one fall race pending but I am a dubious it will happen.

I have been falling asleep really early lol by 9 at the latest lol. But I wake up early to run!

Well I got my first mani in 3 months and I have an appointment for another service this weekend. So excited.. we still have to wear masks etc but things are slowly coming back to life.

Looking forward to some down time this weekend too! I hope you have a wonderful day Janae!

I just don’t understand how they make a popsicle so creamy and heavenly. Let me know what ends up happening with that fall race. YES… love hearing from other 9 o’clockers:). We need a club. So happy things are opening up again for you and I bet that manicure just felt like heaven! Thanks Kristine and you too!

My fall race (Multisport Worlds in Amsterdam in September) just got canceled yesterday. I wasn’t surprised with such a big international field, I just hope my qualification rolls over to 2021 (it’ll be back in the Amsterdam area again so we definitely want to go). St George is smaller and doesn’t pull very many international people so maybe it will still happen? I bet it will look different (aid stations, etc).

Reply

Victoria, I am so so sorry that it was cancelled. I bet you were really looking forward to it and I’m sure they will let the qualification roll over (and you have to keep me updated!!). You are just amazing and I can’t wait for you to get that race in Amsterdam. I need updates on how things are going in your area.

For some reason the amazon dress link isn’t working for me!

I’m signed up for a fall race in W. VA and it’s still a go as far as I know. I am not holding my breath though since they cancelled Boston for the first time in history. Still training though like it’s happening. It will at least be virtual I’m sure.

Thanks for pointing that out so I could fix it! Here it is: https://amzn.to/2yIvAxE
Oh I really hope that you will be able to go and do your race, will you please keep me updated! I do have hope that smaller races will happen! Hope you have a beautiful day Mercedes!

Hi Janae, just wanted to say that I listened to that episode today and I loved it as well. Shalane said “Just because something is hard you should not want it to go y fast” and it hit hard for me. I feel like often times we just want to get through the hardships in life as fast as possible but sometimes this only creates resistance from our side and it does not actually make it go by fast. Also, applied to running, it is a great reminder that discomfort is how we grow and we need to be able to work through it!

Reply

ALL of the goosebumps and thank you for sharing your thoughts with that beautiful quote… you are so right and just the reminder I need for life and not just running. You just sound amazing, Maria and I hope you have a great weekend!

We love graham crackers in milk too…..and dipped in smoothies and ice cream.
I even found a cookie recipe where you place the dough on top of graham cracker squares and bake–so good!

Reply

Well, you just changed our life:). I can’t wait to try them in smoothies and ice cream and we will 100% be making those smores cookies. Thank you SO so much Angie and I hope you have a great day.

I just love skyes hairdos!! She is too sweet.

Those popsicles look great, going to find those ASAP.

I don’t really eat a snack before bed, unless I’m hungry, which usually I’m not – then I’ll have a piece of cheese or yogurt. My husband often has cereal or toast, and Allie usually has apple. That’s all she’s allowed to have right before bed (try to keep it boring) since she loves to use the “I’m hungry” tactic to stall bedtime!!

I need 8-9 hours of sleep a night (I used to do well on 7 but not so much anymore …) so I usually am in bed by 9:30, lights out by 10:30 and awake between 6-8 am depending on my work schedule.

Reply

I need to try the boring food idea because my kids LOVE that one too and I just can’t say no if they are hungry ha. I’m with you on that 8-9 hours and I hope tonight you have the best night of sleep. Thanks Andrea and have a wonderful Friday.

Reply

Your food looks delicious!!! We need a food truck in our town!

I have a fall race mid-September and it is still on. It’s a small race that is in it’s 5th year. I have ran it every year so I hope I can keep my streak going.

Of course Andrew need so run St. George–someone needs to represent your family! Could you get your sister to run it too?!

I always eat something before bed. Although I have to be sure not to eat too much or it interferes with my sleep (I sound so old, haha). Also I only drink coffee before my early morning runs so it serves as fuel for my run.

Our bedtime has been anywhere from 10:00-11!!! This is too late! During the typical school year, we are all sleeping by 8 or 9.

Happy Friday!

Reply

Hey Becky! I hope you guys get a food truck soon, they are the best. I REALLY hope that your race in mid-September happens because you need to keep the streak alive. Thanks for supporting Andrew in this and I agree… she should but she has 0% desire to do a marathon ha. Happy Friday to you too friend!

My fall race is still on! Crossing my fingers that that doesn’t change!

I go through phases where I eat a nighttime snack EVERY night, and then not at all. I really love evening cereal. I’m thinking I need to start getting to bed earlier so I can run earlier and beat the humidity (or try to, ha), but I already go to bed pretty early!

So so excited for listening to Ali on the Run–I’m saving it for when I need a boost to get out the door! I just listened to Shalane on another podcast (I think you shared it a few days ago)–she’s amazing.

Reply

YES, such a good sign that your fall races are still on! I’m totally with you, evening cereal just tastes better than morning cereal. Good luck with that humidity, I don’t know how you do it! Enjoy the episode, you are going to love it. Have a great weekend, Kristin!

Reply

Loved Shalane’s episode on Ali on the Run! She is so amazing and it’s incredible hearing her story!

I’ve been going to bed between 9-10, I know it’s early haha.

Reply

Oh Mariah, if you ever feel like that is too early then just remember I’ve already been asleep for like an hour ha. I hope your Friday is a beautiful, Mariah!

My husband and I are signed up for St George! Sooo excited! :)

AHHHH THIS MAKES ME SO HAPPY! I’ll see you there!

How would you say Levitates compare to Ghosts? I’ve only ever ran in Brooks Ghosts and loved them all but the 11’s. I’ve tried Hoka’s recently and my feet did not like those. But I’ve been thinking of trying the Levitates, I know a lot of people love them!

Reply

I would say that the Levitates are a lot more of an energizing shoe compared to the ghosts (the ghosts are the perfect mixture of comfort with a bit of bounce). I like my easy runs in the ghosts and a bit faster paced runs in the Levitate. Also, the Levitate fit a bit more snug and up close to your foot vs the Ghosts giving you a bit more wiggle room with your toes if that makes sense. Let me know if you try them and what you think! Have a beautiful day, Lisa!

Reply

This is so helpful, Thank You!! I actually have wide feet so I appreciate your opinion on them.

Reply

Please tell me George is on your boy name list and Georgia is on your girl’s.

Do I eat before bed……am I breathing?

Happy Friday.

Reply

I have a nephew named George is the only hard part with that but I DO love Georgia. Hahah I think about you a lot if I am eating cereal before bed:). Happy Friday to you too, Erica.

Reply

St George – crossing my fingers it isn’t canceled and doesn’t require masks (not sure I could run 26 hot miles in a mask/buff).
No snacks before bed – my old(er) lady metabolism doesn’t do so well with that.
I hope for bed at 9pm but very often it’s more like 10pm. Too many kid things still going on at 9pm.

Reply

I REALLY hope that they don’t cancel it and a mask… there is no way I could do 26.2 miles with one! Keep me updated if you hear anything. I hope you get in a few 9 pm bedtimes soon. Have a beautiful day!

Thanks for the sock recommendations, the dryer gremlin has eaten lots of socks lately so I need some new ones. “Past me planned this” – haha loved that, so true!!

I have a question for you – do you wash your running shoes in the washing machine? I’ve had several muddy trail runs lately and sometimes I just hose them off, but wondering if others run them through the wash? Running shoes are definitely the most cherished/expensive thing in my closet so I want to treat them with love.

Reply

HAHAH we have that same dryer gremlin here too! I think I have washed a pair once or twice but I’m like you and I usually just hose them off. Does anyone else wash theirs in the washing machine? If people don’t respond here about it I can ask it as a question on Monday to see what tips and tricks people have. LOVE what you said about Andrew doing the race… I fully agree! Have the best day, thanks Michelle!

Reply

PS – Andrew, this might be the perfect time to train for a marathon. Great weather, de-stress from work and some alone time before the new baby arrives (especially since it looks like the big kids can help Janae out with Skye a bit now). And mountain biking can still be good cross training ;)

Reply

As always thanks for sharing your Friday favorites! I always end up buying something from your favs list sooner or later! ? when you mentioned socks getting holes, have you found this the case with Bombas? It happened to me with Bombas and I thought it was just my odd luck?

Random food share… if your great harvest sells pancake mix please try some. It’s SO SO good. I didn’t know this existed until last week and wow I’m hooked. Great Harvest can do no wrong! ? ?
?

Graham crackers dipped in milk is MAGNIFICENT! If you have a chocolate craving I highly recommend dipping chocolate graham crackers in milk ?

The future is anyone’s guess here in Michigan. I wouldn’t be surprised if there are no road races this year ? But! I see lots of virtual races and we are making the best of the situation! ?‍♀️

I like to have a little snack before bed no matter what it might be ?

I want to go to bed early every night but my husband is quite the opposite. I get panicked when I see 10pm ? My hubby believes nighttime is the ideal time to stay up and relax.. watch tv or play board games! We find a happy medium.

This weekend I’m looking forward to getting outside and walking or maybe hiking! ?

Yes Andrew run St. George!! I have made a small list of reasons I think you should run:

1. Janae and the kids will love cheering you on! Imagine the signs you will see along with the cheering! ?
2. St. George is a family tradition and continuing traditions is important.
3. You will have a BLAST! ?
4. Race training could include cross training on your bike ?
5. More race bling! ?

Enjoy your Friday! ????

Reply

YES, Bombas is what socks it happens the most to for me, every single pair. I had NO idea that they had pancake mix, I might have to go back today… yum! Well, now I have to try the chocolate graham crackers too! Praying for things to get better in Michigan asap! Your list of reasons is perfection… they will totally convince him! Have a beautiful day and I always really love hearing from you Sydney (your emojis are my favorite)!

Reply

My bad! It wasn’t bombas it was balega that kept getting holes!

Reply

With Boston’s cancellation, I’m now scouring the internets for smaller races that might not get cancelled….St. George is definitely on the list. I’d love to hear where other people have found to run!
Almond butter (well RxButter) jam sandwiches have been my fave pre-long run breakfast….but you have me craving one right now!

Reply

I will ask in a question on Monday’s post to see if people have good race suggestions for you! I really hope you do St. George selfishly ha:).Keep me updated and have a great weekend Baili!

Reply

Thank you!!! And it is at the top of my list… this Texas girl would love a race like that in the fall!

Reply

Question, why no mention of George Floyd or any of the other black people being murderer? You “ran” for Ahmaud but have not said a word about any of the other issues going on in the world.

Reply

That is a great question and thanks for asking Andrea. I’m trying to figure out how to go about talking about such horrific events. I started reading White Fragility and the Hate You Give this week to begin to educate myself on something that I feel like I’ve never properly learned about so I can go about these topics in the right way other than a simple mention. Any help or recommendations on how I could better understand and help would be greatly appreciated! Have a beautiful day!

Reply

THANK YOU for the sock recommendations! I desperately need new socks and have yet to find the perfect socks for running. I wi be trying them out asap!
My first 50k is still a go for October and I could not be more excited! I’m not sure which I am more excited about – a new distance or actually having a real race on the calendar ?
So I am very much NOT pregnant but I have been wanting to go to bed at 8:30 like almost every night so not sure what that’s all about ?
Btw CONGRATULATIONS on your big news – I am so excited for you all!!

Reply

I love your sick reward!! When I was pregnant with my daughter I convinced my husband I needed a sick reward too ? we paid for an early ultrasound to find out the gender at 15 weeks! It made it all worth it. Kudos to you for having the patience to wait this time around!!

Reply

Good to know I’m not alone on the sick rewards ha!! Thanks for sharing Christine and I hope you have a fabulous day!

Reply

Skye is bandaid free… amazing! ?. Such a cutie.
I listened to Ali’s episode with Shalane yesterday, SO good! So many great take aways. With me not running right now, I need all the good, positive, motivating tidbits I can grab.
Our pool is open! Well, sort of. But it is open enough to swim laps, so I can work on/keep up my cardio while healing my achilles. So I am definitely looking forward to that this weekend.
Andrew of course should run St. George! Like someone else mentioned, he needs to represent your family. And, if it still happens, he needs to be there to run for all of those who’s races were cancelled. Fingers crossed!
Have a great Friday Janae ?

Reply

I’m shocked about Boston’s cancellation! I personally think they should add more of the runners with qualified times who weren’t able to get in – since it’s virtual, more people could participate, right?! Andrew, you should totally run St. George it would be great to see you two switch! And oh, man we used to eat graham crackers and milk all the time growing up. Have you tried it with the cinnamon sugar graham crackers? Pretty good too.

Reply

It’s late if I’m up past 9:30!

When you buy something for yourself, do you tell Andrew first? I feel like I have to tell my husband as if I’m asking permission. I think because I’m a stay at home mom right now and not actually earning income for our budget makes it hard for me to spend it. Just curious.

Reply

Ahh I hope Andrew runs St. George! I am TOO EXCITED to read his guest posts for training updates and race recaps, AND the all-important post(s) containing his specific gear/running apparel reviews!!!

As for socks that go up the ankle a little bit–YES YES AND YES PLEASE. I love my low socks that curve under the ankle and are more or less no-show, but SO FEW of those socks actually clear the back of the shoe and don’t cause that problem of shoe-rubbing-against-skin. And when I teach my spin classes, I *exclusively* wear socks that come up the ankles a bit and are more low-cut or quarter-length than no-show. The Shimano cycling shoes I wear have some tough fabric and a thick almost plastic/vinyl-like tongue that would otherwise scrape against my skin and that is an absolutely hard NO PASS for me. While I am partial to my balega socks for running (and while I love the hidden comforts, I am partial to the silver socks and–in the summer months of SUPER humidity down here–the hidden dry socks…), I am VERY partial to Bombas’ quarter-cut socks for spin class. I have literally had 4 of my pairs for 3.5 years at this point (and have steadily added a pair of black and a pair of white each year). No holes. No wearing down to paper-thin in the heels. NOTHING.

This weekend–well it’s my last weekend before my gyms have us teaching our group fitness classes and it’s my last weekend before furlough is over and I am back to work at the store. Because so much here in Georgia has been opening up (and it seems so complicated to know what to say or to feel comfortable expressing how I feel about it all…), the last 2 weeks have been REALLY BIG with me resuming my job hunt for my next big career move, and this weekend I am soaking in the last couple of days with Tom. I will drive to one of my gyms tomorrow and hole up in the spin room to make sure I am ready to go for my classes next week, and I will do a body pump workout at home with Les Mills OnDemand and a cheap barbell set I bought a couple years ago, but other than that–finish the book I’ve been reading, do some meal prep, hang out with Tom, and make the all-important dinner that is the last of this past week’s meal prep: SHEET PAN SHRIMP FAJITAS. I am EXTREMELY excited for those, tbh.

ACK this is long! The dresses you got are SO CUTE–and I’d never heard of Albion Fit before. I must check out their website!!! Have such a great day out there! :)

Reply

Random question – I was just about to buy the gap factory t shirt dress you recommended a few weeks ago but now I’m second guessing if I should do the amazon one instead. Which is better? ?

Reply

Hey Kristina! They are both amazing but pretty different… the gap factory one is a bit more form fitting and cotton type material and have more of a variety of colors. The amazon one has the softest fabric ever and is more boxy and loose! Both are wins so I vote for both ha. Have a great rest of your day!

I just found out Boston is officially cancelled which is a bummer as I spent the past year fundraising for my hospital. I unfortunately don’t think I could ever qualify so I sort of saw this as my one shot. BUT the hospital definitely needs the funds more than ever and as of today I officially hit my fundraising goal so still feeling proud about that :) Have a great weekend Janae!

Reply

Suzanen. I am incredibly sorry that it was cancelled after you have done os much to help others to get there. You are incredible. Will they let you be able to do it next year instead? You should feel SO SO proud and thanks for inspiring me!

Reply

Mmmmmm Melona bars ? I have to say, I’ve seen a lot of pictures this week of people at restaraunts, picnics and getting take out without masks on and it makes me squeemish lol I live in the North East and my state requires them to do a lot of things yet. It’s nice to see families doing something ‘normal’ though!

Reply

Love the black Albion dress! Would you tell me what sizing is like. Did you go with a tall or regular? I’m about the same height as you. Just a bit curvier.
