Friday Favorites!!

That time during a run when you are waiting for the light to change so you can cross the street provides the perfect time for a photo op ha.

Running around town with my sister again (8 miles) and she is definitely a non-watch runner now.  She decided when she started running again after her back surgery that she was going to just run for her and not worry about pace or time or compare herself to what she used to run.  It works perfectly for her.

I wear my watch about 23 hours a day and the tan line that it has produced makes it look like I’m still wearing a watch even when I take mine off.

I think Skye will be the only one missing homework time each day.  TODAY IS THEIR LAST DAY!

IMG 3187

And I celebrated the fact that it is their last day by stopping for a froyo and eating it peacefully alone in my car before getting groceries.

IMG 3190

The kids spent some time on the tramp.

IMG 3192

And for dinner I made this Vegetable Soup in the Instant Pot (<— my absolute favorite thing this week).  Knox said it smelled like his wart medicine (love it how kids just build up our self esteem with cooking ha) but Andrew and I loved it.

TWELVE MINUTES and boom:

IMG 3195

We added mozzarella cheese and avocado on top along with rolls on the side.  I’m already excited for the leftovers today.

IMG 3197

I rarely make two different dinners but I knew the vegetable soup wasn’t going to work for Knox and Skye ha so I had them all at least try it and then used TJ’s pizza dough to make them pizza

Happy almost weekend and here are some things that I loved from this week!

*BECOMING on Netflix.  It is all about Michelle Obama and I loved every. single. second of it.

Screen Shot 2020 05 10 at 8 52 23 PM

*A few of you recommended this sunscreen to me and I AM LOVING IT.  It’s so much cheaper than what I was using and does the job while feeling like you aren’t wearing anything on your face.  I’m using it for the run in the mornings and then I reapply it after my shower too for the rest of the day.

IMG 3047

*This account told me another product (HERE) to try that I’m obsessed with and I had to share it too.  Just put a tiny bit of smoother on your hair when it is damp and boom… so soft, way less frizz, and even Andrew noticed how much smoother my hair looked with it.

IMG 3073

*This news made me so incredibly happy and I’m counting down until July 3rd now.

Screen Shot 2020 05 13 at 10 50 46 AM

*I got another Canopy Jacket and it is just my favorite running jacket ever.  I talk more about it here but I found out something else really cool…

IMG 3119

It packs up into a little backpack!  This way if you are wearing it and you get too warm you can just take it off and pack it to get it back home.

IMG 3122

*Turns out I have a lot of things about TV today ha but I’m watching more of it now than ever.  Jen recommended I watch Skid Row Marathon on Amazon and it was really good.

How often are you wearing a gps watch or normal watch?

Have any favorite things this week?  Anything to add to my TV list?

Looking forward to anything this weekend?

Besides shampoo and conditioner… what products do you use on your hair?

I gave it a little time after opening but I’m beyond excited to go to the beach this weekend! The beach is my place to emotionally recharge year round so staying away for 3 months, especially THESE 3 months, has been super hard.

Reply

I am thrilled for you! Kristen, enjoy every second of the beach and all of the recharging! You deserve it and I want to hear all about it!

HAHAHA wart medicine!!! Where did he come up with that?! Crazy guy!! Lol. I’m always making 2 different dinners …. sigh. Just easier than hearing the whining and complaining if it’s something she doesn’t like. I need to stop and just deal with it!!! I have a question for you / your readers. Any suggestions on a light running jacket that is long enough to completely cover your butt?? I don’t like short jackets but am having trouble judging whether jackets are long enough to cover my bum from pictures online …

Reply

Knox has quite the nose on him ha! Hahah well maybe the meals I normally make are more of kid meals that I just eat too?! That is a great question, anyone have suggestions? Have a beautiful day, Andrea!

Reply

Andrea,
Take a look at cycling jackets instead, basically same as a running jacket but longer in the back to either put over the seat and/or protect your back side from road slop. You could also check out running vests (possibly go a size up since you don’t have to worry about sleeve length) – I found the perfect running vest that drops down long enough to keep most of my running shorts area dry on both sides.

Reply

How tall are you? If you’re short like me (I’m 5’3), all the jackets will cover your backside! ?

I saw the announcement about Hamilton and all I have to say is Happy Birthday to me! Lol my birthday is July 3rd and since who knows what everything will be like then where I live, I now have plans that I am very excited for ;)

My hair has been so frizzy lately thanks to humidity so I will check out that product. Thanks for the recommendation Janae! Have a happy Friday !

Reply

That is going to be the best bday present! I hope you get to eat your favorite foods while you watch! Let me know if you try it and have a great day, Maureen!

Good ole Frizz-Ease on the hair!

I’m only very early into it but so far I am enjoying Never Have I Ever on Netflix.

My self-esteem is way too weak for kids’ opinions and feedback :) I choose to believe my dog thinks I’m always wonderful. Ha. You’re doing a great job, Janae!

Reply

I’ll start going off of what Beretta thinks too? I like that plan! I’ll have to watch that. Thanks Amanda and have a great weekend❤️

Reply

Ooooooh I also have a massive watch tanline by July with all the time I spend outside on my bike and YES I USE SUNBLOCK I SWEAR MOM.

I will have to give that hair product a try, back in January I found the PERFECT anti frizz serum…and then discovered after using it a few times that my husband is definitely very allergic to something in it. Haha. Total fail.

This weekend I’m riding my bike a bunch and I think we might order in Detroit-style pizza!

Reply

You aren’t alone, I use sunblock but the tan line shows up no matter what! I hope this one is able to replace the last one! Okay, now I need some of that pizza… enjoy every bite. Have a great weekend, Victoria!

Reply

I love the MO documentary! I am still laughing about Craig’s white wine and when he asked about the 3 belt outfit.
And I loved seeing her daughters! And seeing Barry. Ok. Every single second, too.

Reply

RIght?!?! Just the best. I feel like I need more now. Hope your day is a great one, Molly!

Yay they’re done with online school! We go to June 5 then I have online teacher training for a week which sounds thrilling. We are supposed to plan for next year online, hybrid, or in person. I reallyyyyy want to go back in person especially for my kids!

What I use in my hair umm nothing I actually don’t know the last time I washed it but my bun is looking pretty bad so I think I’m going to wash it today. When not in quarantine I do use a lot of Products to style it hehe

Reply

Oh that week does sound so exciting but I’m happy that you are getting closer! I really hope that you are able to be with your students in person next year and I bet they all missed you so so so much. Here in Utah we are moving to yellow (low risk) so they are planning on normal school in August. I hope you guys get the same. Buns are perfect for quarantine (and normal life:)! I hope you have a beautiful day and let me know what ends up happening with your teaching plans!

Good Friday morning!!! Today is day 9 of my 380 mile ultra! I am starting the day at 337 miles, which means I have 43 left to go. Some slight heartbreak happened this morning, as I woke up, the first place person posted a 43 mile run. Apparently, he stayed up all night running. So I have 43 miles left, and I plan on finishing today. I started the day off with 8 miles once more at 7:55 pace. I am comfortably in second with a 90 mile lead on third, so all I need to do is finish today. This is my first ultra, and I am definitely not doing a race this long again for a very long time. I will update you tomorrow with how the rest of the day goes.

Reply

Your are amazing!! It will be fun to read more once you’ve completed today! Stay strong, stay safe and know that you have a bunch of internet friends cheering you on ?

Reply

Wow, those are some awesome times, especially for that mileage. Nice job!

Reply

AHHH ALEX!! This is incredible. Your FIRST ULTRA and 380 miles and second place?! We all want your autograph. Can’t wait to hear about your completion!

Reply

Haha – wart medicine! That is a good one.
I’m definitely going to try the Olaplex. My hair has been looking like a hot mess lately. But it’s quarantine time so no big deal.
So glad you mentioned the Brooks Canopy jacket. I purchased one at 50% off when you last posted and I love it! Anyone on the fence about buying one should definitely go for it. Also rocking my very first pair of Brooks shoes – the Glycerin ones.
Have a great weekend!

Reply

Luckily it didn’t taste like wart medicine. Let me know what you think of the Olaplex. Hearing about your new Canopy jacket and the Glycerin… best combo ever! Thanks Cathy, you too.

I wear my watch a ton too because I am obsessed with all the stats it gives me. Question? What do you clean your band with? How often?

Eating deliciousness alone in a car. Yep, can relate!!
Happy Last Day of school to everyone!

Reply

Hey Erica! I should clean it more often ha but I just use a Clorox wipe. I hope you get to eat something amazing in the car alone, it was healing ha. Thanks Erica and happy weekend to you three.

I enjoy watching Movies and Munchies on YouTube. He is a really good Netflix show and other movie, spoiler free reviewer and we find things to watch via his channel.

Reply

I’ve never heard of Movies and Munchies and now I cannot wait to check him out. THANK YOU and have a great weekend Marcie!

SO excited for Hamilton!! It comes out on my birthday — such a good present!

Reply

Oh that is PERFECT TIMING! It is Maureen’s (comment up above) birthday too that day. We will have to have a big discussion about what we thought of it afterwards. Have a great weekend.

Reply

Oh my goodness Knox’s comment about the soup made me laugh out loud!!!! Kids definitely say the funniest things about food!! ?
Weekend… tomorrow is my long run for the week (trying to do around 10 miles each weekend to keep up the base) and my husband and my 11th anniversary! And Sunday is our first day back with our church family in a very limited, social distancing capacity but I am still SO excited!!

Reply

Haha their little brains just make me laugh so hard. Your weekend sounds perfect. SO many exciting things to look forward to and 11 years, CONGRATS. Enjoy Laura!

Reply

Knox is a crack up!
I can’t wait for Hamilton!! Have you read Michelle Obama’s book? I haven’t yet, but I listened when she was on Oprah’s podcast talking about it. She is amazing.
My husband gave me a new Garmin for Christmas, the same one you have, and I love it. I definitely wear it all day every day, so my watch tan line is strong!
I have been following along with Alex and her ultra that she is running…. That is so amazing! I can’t believe the miles and days she has covered. It will be fun to read what she has to say once she is finished ?
Happy Friday!

Reply

Oh I loved that podcast too, she really is amazing and I just love the way she presents herself and the world around her. I am SO glad you have this Garmin, it’s just the best and you are the best to cheer on everyone around you. I really appreciate you Wendy and who you are. Happy Friday to you too!

Yum! Love vegetable soup. And I’m thinking the next time I grocery shop, I’ll need to have a solo date with some type of treat :) Genius!
I wear my Garmin Instinct all the time because it tracks so many things in addition to the GPS function. I like the data on sleep, steps, etc.
I’ve been loving the Netflix show Dead to Me. It’s very sweary, so that might be a turnoff to some, but the plot twists are great!
We’re going to have a couple of days nearing HOT temperatures, which is very exciting for me. And we’re going to have a driveway donut party for my dad’s 82nd birthday tomorrow morning.
Congrats on making it through online school!!

Reply

You have to do the solo treat date, it was healing all. I need to copy you and start getting the data for my sleep, thanks Corey. So many of my friends love that show, I need to check it out! Oh, I love what you are doing for your dad and happy birthday to him. Enjoy those temperatures and the heat. Thank you and I hope your Friday is off to a great start!

YAY for the last day of school!!! Froyo solo sounds like the best way to celebrate!

I wear my Garmin all the time! I ran with a friend and she never runs with a watch! Even when she ran/trained for a marathon, she guesstimated her training miles!!! I got anxious just talking about it!

Do you have a lot of stoplights on your run? What do you do while you wait for it to turn? We don’t have a stoplight in our town–oh the things I don’t think of!

Things I am loving: nicer weather, finally! (we had snow on Saturday!), Target man garage sale–a guy in our town buys a truckload of Target things (last years styles, returns, etc) and has a garage sale. It is the best thing ever! Everything is brand new. You have to dig a bit because it is basically a mini Target in his garage/yard, but that is part of the fun. He wasn’t “open” due to COVID, but I know him so I got to shop before he officially opens next week.

Happy Friday, Janae!

Reply

Good for her to just be able to be laid back with her marathon training, I’m like you and that makes me anxious just thinking about it ha. No stoplights? That is awesome. Most of the time I’m running early enough that the light will change pretty quickly after I push the button and somedays we don’t run near lights. And if I am stopped, I just stop my garmin and enjoy the rest ha. HALLELUJAH for good weather. I have never heard of a garage sale like that, it sounds brilliant. Enjoy and so glad you got to start early. Thanks Becky, you too!

Reply

Hi Janae! I used to wear my watch all the time but then I think my skin got allergic to it and it’d give me a rash! I did clean it every day when I took a shower but now I just only wear it when I go running or biking or hiking and I still have a massive tan line! I don’t put sunscreen on my arms because effort, maybe that’s bad, not sure. I only put sunscreen on my face and neck, what do you do?

Reply

Allergic to it?! Oh no! That’s a bummer. I always have it on my face/neck/chest and most of the time on my arms too if the sun is out. I need to work on putting it on my legs… let’s do it together! Hope you are having a wonderful Friday Amy!

Reply

Oh that froyo looks so good! I am missing a lot of normal things here in Michigan where Corona has been bad. ?

Thanks for sharing your Friday favs I always look forward to them. ?

I recently watched Little Fires Everywhere on Hulu with Reese Witherspoon. My husband and I loved this show! Also Upload on Amazon is cute and created by the created of The Office. ???

Are things difficult in day to day life for you guys in Utah? I go to Target and everyone has a mask on. It seems surreal. ?

We made your sisters pizza and omg wow.. everyone needs to make this ASAP!????

Last but not least I hope you know Friends is coming back to us .. although it’s through anew streaming service HBO Max. Are you in? As much as I don’t want another streaming service I miss my Friends! ☕️

Have a wonderful weekend! ?

Reply

Hey Sydney! I am SO sorry about how bad things are for you guys and I really wish I could take it away. Things aren’t bad here anymore but masks are all around. We move to yellow (low risk) starting tomorrow so I’m happy about that and I really hope that the same will happen for Michigan soon. I’m so glad that you loved the pizza… it’s just the best. I didn’t know that they are coming back… but you just made my day! Can’t wait and I must watch Upload and Little Fires Everywhere. Thanks so much and have a great weekend, Sydney!

Wow! Last day of school! Baxton’s is next Thursday, but I think his teaching is shortening it to Tuesday. I don’t know what we will do once summer begins before the zoo and YMCA and movies etc open…

I wear an Apple Watch 24/7. When it needs charging I swap it out with my other Apple Watch.

I recommend the documentary American Herro (Amazon Prime right now). It is about the current Ambassador to Bulgaria who was born in Iraq, lives in a refugee camp for two years, moved to North Dakota at the age of 3, and went on to live the American dream!

Looking forward to my long run (11) Saturday morning when my hubby his day off.

Besides shampoo and conditioner, I rarely use anything. If I have too many frizzies I use Argan Oil of morroco, and if I haven’t shampooed in a while then I apply a hair powder (like a dry shampoo but at naturel).

Reply

So so close to Baxton’s last day wahoo! I hope that those things start opening up for you soon. Ours start tomorrow so maybe that is a good sign for you too. Thank you so much for sharing this with me and I will absolutely be watching it with Andrew. Sounds like an incredible story. Go rock those 11 miles tomorrow and enjoy your weekend, thanks Tonya!

I am so excited for Hamilton!! I saw the traveling cast in Chicago and they were AMAZING, but can’t wait to see with the original cast!! Also, Taylor Swift’s City of Lover Concert will be on Disney+ this weekend.

Thank for you the recommendation on the Canopy jacket! I got one and love it! Wore it last week on my long run and it was perfect!

Reply

Wait, WHAT? I did not know that… I can’t wait to watch this weekend, thanks Mariah. This makes me so happy to hear that you love the canopy jacket… keep enjoying! Have a great weekend!

Hello, I have a lot of trouble with acne and have gone to the treatment center in the link below. She has given out a list of pore clogging ingredients to check for. I like the idea of a zinc sunscreen so I started looking at the one you posted, ready to order it, and lo and behold I found Sodium Chloride on the ingredient list! (which is rated a 5 aka high clogger). Anyways take this info how you will, just wanted to pass it along. :)

PS YAY last day of school! Congrats to all of you!!

My watch goes on the charger while I shower and stretch. That is it.

TV- if you are up for subs, Reply 1988 on Netflix is seriously the best thing I’ve watched in years. Family/friend comedy/drama. Love it.

Hair- I use Living Proof Perfect Hair Day 5 in 1 every day. It’s good for low maintenance waves without static.

I’m excited to try the new sunscreen!

Reply

my Suunto is my “regular” watch, mostly because I’m too lazy to swap out watches. but as it gets warm enough to ditch the long sleeves I have to wear my Suunto everywhere or I look ridiculous with the tanline. a few times I’ve forgotten my Suunto and ended up burning the crap out of my poor pasty wrist! so yea, gotta have that watch on!

Reply

Yum! I can’t believe only 10 mins?!!

How does your sponsorship with Brooks work? Do you get free gear or a reduced price?

Curious if you ever have to run in traffic. I’m heading back to work next week and won’t have as much time to drive to trails…but I hate driving next to roads/traffic, can’t listen to my AirPods and it just causes me ANXIETY for some reason lol. Debating how to handle this lol

Reply

Janae, your backyard cracks me up! It’s like Mary Poppin’s magical bag, you have SO many cool things for the kids (trampoline, playground equipment), the hot tub, the chickens, the weight lifting shed and yet every picture you post of the yard you don’t see all the other magical things in the background. It must be huge! I love it, and I’m so happy you have room for the things you all love! :)

Reply

Bahaha this is hilarious because you are so right! We have so many random things back there now! Hope you have a beautiful weekend!

That comment Knox made just made me literally laugh out loud. Kids are so ridiculous and funny.

Congrats Janae!!! So happy for you and your family :)
