Unibrow & Even the 2 Year Old & Facial at Home

How in the world was this a year ago today?   My runs look nothing like this anymore (it was 27 degrees for my run yesterday but at this point I don’t care what the weather is anymore, THAT FRESH AIR IS LIFE) but that’s okay because we still get to RUN!

Can’t wait until we are back to these types of runs/races again!

I took care of my eyebrows on my own and I’ve decided waxing is my preferred method, that is for sure.  Today’s to-do is my nails and it’s a good thing my hair is already used to being cut only once a year;)

This is random but Mariah mentioned yesterday how much she missed getting facials during this time and this thing makes my skin feel so much softer and smoother at home so I thought I would share if you are missing facials too—>   I bought a PMD a few months ago and love it.  Jenica had posted for a while about how much she loved hers and I finally took the plunge.  This thing is amazing.  It allows me to get in an amazing exfoliation and microdermabrasion at home each week.  The thing that sold me was the fact that I spend all of this money on nice products and then with all of that dead skin on top, the products aren’t truly sinking in.  The morning after I use this my skin feels so much softer and my products are able to actually get into my skin rather than just sit on top (Andrew even noticed the difference and I hadn’t even told him about it).  I think this has been my favorite purchase in a long time!

We took a field trip to go look at some ducks.  These girls of mine are animal lovers through and through so they love seeing any and all animals.  Brooke’s goal is for us to transform our backyard into a farm one day.

IMG 1281

Skye definitely got some energy out while we were there.

IMG 1284

And then she needed a massage with the pure wave because her muscles were tired from all of the sprints.

IMG 1291

This was Brooke’s reaction when I told her about the email I received about school being cancelled for the rest of the school year.  Brooke is an introvert and she really has enjoyed this time of being home with her family all day and focusing on her own passions.  She is so excited and Skye is just as excited about it as Brooke.  I’m interested to see what Knox thinks about it when we see him today.

IMG 1293

We had some more time outside and then spent some time in the hot tub.

Andrew brought home our favorite sweet potato fries from Guru’s to eat while we continued on with our HP marathon.  They come with a fry sauce that I just want to swim in.

I’ll have to check out that facial tool! I’m always so hesitant about going for a facial since I know I won’t be able to keep up with them but at home seems super easy.

Today is a running rest day but I’m doing a “pay what you choose/can” pilates class on zoom. I stumbled across Chloe’s Instagram (gochlo_) and she offers them multiple times a week. She’s a master pilates instructor and it’s nice to feel like you’re in a class environment. Plus it’s for all levels and she’ll give modification if you need a slightly easier move. I can’t wait until 5:30 pm for it :)

Have a wonderful day friend!

That’s how I felt… I couldn’t keep up with going in for one so I needed one at home! I hope you love it if you get it. ENJOY the pilates class, that sounds amazing and I really need that for core strength. Have a blast and you too Maureen!!!

I can’t imagine a rest day during this whole isolation! My morning workout keeps me sane :) The routine is 40 minutes on the elliptical and then a quick treadmill run. Then I walk the dog one mile, then log into work from 8-5. Mid-day 3 mile walk with dog. 1 mile evening walk with dog. Usually when I go to work the mid-day 3 miler is solo. I am going to go through withdrawal when we go back :)

Reply

Oh – I wanted to ask too – by school being cancelled, does that mean no home-schooling either? Or does it just mean they are not going back into the classroom?

Reply

Isn’t the routine of a morning workout just the best! Sounds like you guys have the perfect set-up together! I didn’t say that right about school oops… home-schooling is still happening (Brooke would probably have tears of joy streaming down her face if that was cancelled too)! Have a great day Amanda!

Wow! We are still preparing to go back May 4 but I have my doubts. That is so great Brooke is excited. My son is super social and really struggling. I think he misses his cousins and grandparents a lot too, we usually have family birthdays every weekend in April and we’ve had to miss them. My daughter who is 3 is thriving.

I think it will get easier when it’s finally SPRING like weather. It’s 28 degrees here this morning!!

Reply

I really really hope that you are able to go back to school in May! I am so sorry about your son, that is so so hard. I think the little ones at home all day just love having the older ones at home… our littlest ones would get along well:). Ahhhhh time to warm up… we need the sun!!! Have a beautiful day Sara and I hope that today is a bit better for your son!

My second grader is an extrovert and she almost started crying when I told her yesterday! My kindergartener is doing ok but he loved his teacher so much and is so sad he doesn’t get to see her in person still. It was a sad afternoon yesterday around here! We’re moving to a new city over the summer so they won’t get to go back to their current school next fall. I feel like this was so sudden and we need some kind of goodbye get together once we’re allowed to meet up again. :(
I love Five Guys fries – but really any place that has fry sauce is going to win for me! I love fry sauce! :)

Reply

Oh Laura, I am so so sorry. I hope your second grader is doing a bit better soon and that before we know it, she will be able to play with friends again. That is so so hard and I feel like Knox is going to feel similar. I totally agree about the goodbye… maybe in the summer they will? Oh Five Guys… SO SO good with their cajun seasoning. I hope you have the best day friend!

Oh wow, I was so shocked/excited to see my name in your blog today!! :) Thanks for the recommendation, definitely going to check out PMD, will be a nice self-care treat during this time!

Today was a run day, woke up early and got in a hilly 3.5 miles before work.

For waffle fries, Chick-fil-A! But for regular fries, there is a local burger place near me that has amazing fries seasoned with Old Bay (Baltimore tradition!).

Reply

Thanks for reminding me about sharing the PMD with your comment yesterday:). Way to get in those hills and miles for work! Okay, those local fries sound INCREDIBLE. I must try those someday. Hope your day is a beautiful one, friend!

I was actually so glad to read about your daughter being excited that school is cancelled! My 8 year old son is also an introvert and while he likes school, I don’t think he misses it at all. I feel like all I hear about is kids being devastated about not going to school, missing friends, etc while my little guy is happy as a clam. Glad he’s not the only one!

Reply

Yes yes yes, your son is not alone. Brooke misses her two close friends and her teacher but like you said, happy as a clam! I hope you and your son have a beautiful day!

Reply

Our school is canceled for the rest of the year and my daughter (a high school freshman) is devastated. She’s missing her routine, her friends, and her first season of spring track. They started distance learning yesterday, so she can at least interact with her teachers and classmates on a regular basis.

Our hot water heater sensor broke yesterday (a cold shower after an 8 mile run did not feel great, when it was only about 50 degrees outside) and the plumber will attempt to fix it (and the mess my husband made when trying to fix it himself) this afternoon. I won’t take another freezing shower, so today will most likely be a rest day, unless it is a quick and easy fix!

I hope you have a great run and warm shower! :)

Reply

Oh Leanne, I have been wondering about all of these high schoolers and how they are handling it. Tell her I am so sorry and my nephew is really struggling with it too. And I’m sorry to YOU and I really hope that they fix it asap! Thinking about you guys:)

Can we talk about your friend Megan’s instagram workouts she has been posting. I am addicted but sore as heck! I can also do multiple full push-ups thanks to those workouts. Now if our weather would just cooperate so I can get out and run more. Its currently snowing in IL :(

I need those sweet potato fries! I have never met a french fry I don’t like so I can’t say I have a favorite.

Reply

RIGHT?! Her workouts are INCREDIBLE and I’m so happy you have them while your weather is being so lame! I’ll tell Megan what you said and congrats on all of your push-ups. I hope you have some amazing fries soon!

Hi there! – started reading the blog again every couple of days. I enjoy reading your stories about your family.:)
Brooke’s reaction is my reaction when they extended our stay home order again! I mean, not entirely – I very much dislike that so many people are out of work or sick – but I am absolutely LOVING working from home.
I use a Neutrogena tinted moisturizer every day that I like – nothing too fancy (it’s from Target), but I like that it has color + SPF + pretty healthy skin ingredients. And in the wintertime I switch to a Clinique foundation (also healthy skin ingredients, I think!).
Hoping for a quick run to celebrate that it’s not SNOWing today! Most days are workout-video-after-the-kiddos-go-to-bed lately.

Reply

Hey Katie! So good to hear for you and hello! I am so glad that you are able to work at home right now. I would love that tinted moisturizer, I’ll have to order it.. thanks so much! Happy snow day and glad you got out for a run. Have a beautiful day.

School has been cancelled for the rest of the school year here in Arkansas too! My niece was pretty excited but also misses her friends. I can’t imagine what their little minds are trying to process right now. But, hopefully soon life can return to somewhat normal! :)

I love that facial tool!! How neat! I’ve never seen that before but it sounds fabulous!

I’m going to try to get in a 5k PR today. I’m participating in a virtual challenge for the next 6 weeks and this weeks challenge is a 5k so fingers crossed it goes well! We’ve got a super sunny day ahead so I’m excited to get outside to enjoy it!

Those fries look AMAZINGLY good! Sweet potato fries are my total weakness. There’s a local place here called “The Root” that has delicious sweet potato fries and they’re local homegrown potatoes too which is even better!

Have a wonderful day, Janae!!

Our schools have not been cancelled yet. Right now we are supposed to return April 27th.
Since you say Brooke is an Introvert, have you ever read the book Quiet? Such a fantastic read.

Could not agree more with the Fresh Air is life! Think it was 22 this morning, and I could not wait. Prior to this I never ran outside under 32…….or let’s not lie, probably 40. ;).

Have a great day!

Reply

Not sure if you knew this… but the author of Quiet also has a wonderful TED talk. We viewed it as part of our professional ( I am a teacher) Development one year. Highly recommend this TED talk!

I start to feel sorry for myself during this and then realize I could not imagine being a high school senior and missing track season, prom, etc. I have loved the glimpses into your house (in not a creepy way….i just love decorating ideas). Could you do a home tour?? I am an introvert by heart as well, BUT i realize i’m fine during the day but as soon as 5pm hits and i haven’t spent the day with people I feel as though i’m about to lose my mind being at home again. Working out/being outside has definitely helped! Oklahoma has had pretty nice weather too so that has been a saving grace for sure!

Reply

Today, I walked out and it looked like Christmas outside. Everything covered in white. Whattt. Where’s Spring?

I homeschool my preschooler either way, but I believe schools haven’t made a decision here in the Chicago suburbs area yet.
I wonder what Knox will say about school being canceled lol.

I’ll be surprised if our kids go back to school this year, but we haven’t heard anything official yet. I know they cancelled prom and graduation- my son is a junior this year (luckily) but I feel terrible for all the seniors (and their families!) who won’t have these things. So sad!

Reply

Oh man I need that Pure Wave ASAP! That looks AMAZING!
We got the notice a couple weeks ago that school was cancelled for the rest of the year. My boys are pretty excited about it!
I’ve noticed my skin responds better to less products. I use Dove Sensitive to wash (I used to HATE bar cleansers w/a passion but I love this one!), Trader Joe’s Rose Facial Toner Mist and Vanicreme.
I switched up my routine to change my run days/routes so today was weight lifting and I did Pilates ( for the first time in literally 15 or so years! I forgot how much it burns!!!! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uOPt0pdIfvA if you want to check it out.
I have several favorite fries; Chic fil A, Dick’s hand cut fries (a local fav), Red Robin and Gyro’s Heros greek fries are at the top of my list.
Have a great day!
ps – do you blow dry your hair? If so, what type of brush do you use? I’m convinced my brush causes too much body and poof and I hate it! Your hair always looks great!

They haven’t cancelled in MA yet – our last day is supposed to be June 19. While we are currently only closed until May 4, I suspect that will be extended. But I am really hoping it would only be extended until after Memorial Day and they’d be able to go back for 3-4 weeks, but I suspect that isn’t going to happen :( Our state has been slow to start distance learning so we are only on Week 2. Next week is supposed to be spring break – they told the towns they could decide what to do and so far we haven’t heard. They are keeping Monday as a holiday but without the Boston Marathon *sob* and other Patriot’s Day fesitivities, why even have it as a holiday?

The Tennessee governor is making an announcement today about schools. Some schools in our area have made the call on the rest of the year themselves but we will get the official announcement today.
Today my brother and I are doing 4 x 800s at 3200 race pace. I haven’t done speed like this in a little while so I’m a little nervous honestly! But I know it’ll feel great when it’s all said and done. Thankful for those post speed workout endorphins!

The link to the PMD product isn’t working for me, so I just looked one up on Amazon…there are several. Which one did you get? Have you used it more than a week? Saw some reviews that said it stopped working after a few uses – was curious what you thought if you had used it more often.

Reply

Hey Melissa! Bummer it’s not working for you… try this one: https://amzn.to/3cjiqFy

This is the one I have: PMD Personal Microderm Classic – At-Home Microdermabrasion Machine with Kit for Face & Body – Exfoliating Crystals and Vacuum Suction for Fresh and Radiant Skin

Mine hasn’t had any problems like that at all and I’ve used it a lot! I’ll let you know if it ever does though. I’ve been extremely happy with mine:) Have the best day!

I love how kids have different reactions to at home school. We are supposed to go back on the 4th of May, but we have been told that we should not plan on it. My 4th grader is crushed. She has a teacher she absolutely loves and is not doing well emotionally/mentally. My kindergartner and preschooler are loving it!

I ran 7 miles today. I am enjoying the earlier sunrise and not having to rush home to get the kids out the door.

Happy Wednesday Janae!

Reply

I’m usually not big on fries unless we make them at home, but I love Chick Fil A fries! And any sweet potato fries!

Today is my Friday, so I am hoping for a 5 miler after work….if I get done on time!

Have a great day!

Reply

I have 75 minutes easy on deck for today, but yesterday I had 3x 2 mile repeats at goal 10k pace and was so excited to hit them spot on! It gave me lots of good confidence for hopeful fall races!

Have you and Andrew watched the latest John Krasinski episode of SGN? I figured Andrew would appreciate it as a baseball fan missing opening day! I bet the kids are all looking forward to being together again and hope Knox is OK with the school news. I know he’s a little social bug. And now you’ve motivated me to do an exfoliation mask tonight ;)

Reply

Oh my goodness, it was such a good episode and I wish that we had AT&T now:). Thank you so much and luckily he is handling it pretty well (he just wishes that the schoolwork was canceled too)! Have a beautiful day!

Reply

Hi Janae! Oh my goodness those fries look so good!! I think mcdonalds has the best fries but you gotta eat them hot. Otherwise at home I like making waffle fries. Happy Wednesday!!

Yes school has been canceled here until the fall, though there is talk it will be closed now until 2021. I am a full time working mom of two, now thrust into also being a full time stay at home mom. I’m figuring out a routine and I luckily work for some very understanding bosses, but this has been so hard.

Today is a rest day! All of my runs now are with the double running stroller and that is so much work! Gladly taking a rest day today :-)

I love those Chick-Fil-A window fries!!

We started online learning March 16th and our area decided April 6th to not physically return to school this year (online learning, finals, AP tests, etc will still continue). 1st grader is bummed about his teacher and friends (we don’t have other littles at home for him to play with); 12th grader is okay with no grad ceremony, disappointed about prom, and seriously ticked about no track season. My oldest’s community college canceled a week of classes before spring break with an announcement that when they “returned” from break, all classes would be online for the rest of the year.

10″ of snow here Sunday morning through late Monday night. It mostly melted yesterday and today is supposed to be nice (50F)…but another 6-8″ of snow coming midnight tonight through midnight Thursday/Friday. Bleh.

4 Mile run over here today! Aww that is good for Brooke to enjoy the time at home! We are cancelled here in Indiana for the rest of the year. My son is trying to adapt, he’s the opposite though and LOOOOVES people so we are trying to get him on zoom calls and chats with friends as much as possible! I rarely eat them but Red Robin fries are pretty darn good.

Reply

Did you wax your brows yourself? I’ve been getting my brows done for years and now I can’t….and I need to ? I’m wondering if I should buy a waxing kit…

Reply

SAME! I am SO scared I’m going to wax my eyebrows crooked or take too much hair off LOL. I can’t imagine waxing my own eyebrows, but things are getting pretty serious over here on the eyebrow front

Reply

Janae – can you do a “how I waxed my brows” feature!?? I need the info too! Also, any nail tips!?

School has been cancelled for the rest of the year for a couple weeks now. My son is only in preschool but he is devastated. He missed is teachers and friends so much.

Today was a run day, and I too will run in anything, just to get out of the house. So glad we aren’t on a true lock down!

Reply

Nails and eyebrows. . . the struggle is REAL right now!! I have already made all my appointments for June, with hopes, we are done with “stay at home” rule!! So many things we just take for granted and you do not realize it until something like this hits!

Running day for me! I went to the park and ran there for different scenery! And I have been strengthening my shoulders and upper body with something called Bodyblade! Have you ever used one? I work for a Chiro and he brought his in for us to use and we do rounds of shoulder work outs with that thing while we are slow!

Schools here are still planning on opening May 15th but I think that will change I am sure!

And fries will make or break your meal!! We love the ones from Viva Chicken!! Do you have that there?? If so, GET some!! And the dipping sauces are sooooo yummy!!!!

Reply

Oh yes VA closed for the year 2-3 weeks ago..I can’t remember. I have all three kids missing routine and friends. Distance learning is going okay this week.

My face breaks out a lot but for last month I’ve been taking liquid vitamins from Mary Ruth’s Organics and my face looks so much better. Could be a coincidence but I’ll take any glimmer of less cheek pimples.

Reply

Aztec Healing Clay is my absolute favorite face mask hands down. I struggle with super painful cystic acne sometimes, and this mask is the only thing that calms them down and lets them heal. It also closes my pores instantly.
It was a run day for me, and I am so thankful for being able to do so. It has been super windy in Indiana lately and today was the first day I didn’t feel like I was going to get blown over the second I walked outside!
Our schools in IN are closed for the year!
Also, Jaggers has the best fries I have ever had! And I have had a lot of fries :D

Reply

School was canceled pretty much during spring break which just ended a couple weeks ago.

Today will just be a post work walk day for some sunshine.

I just got a box of beauty products in the mail so excited to try them.

Hope you had a great day!

Have you ever thought about home-schooling Brooke? For most people, the initial reaction is “oh no, I could never manage that!” But its honestly not that hard, with curriculum to follow… and you are already doing a version of it now. I was homeschooled :-)

Reply

Hi Janae! I have been reading you blog for so long but never commented before. You have a beautiful family and I’m so happy with all that you have accomplished. Keep it you! You are an inspiration!!!

My question is on your PMD…I’ve been wanting to buy one. Which one do u have and how often do u use it? Do u have to buy cleanser or product from the PMD site too?

Thanks so much!!
Steph
