Run-On Sentence Per Picture Kind of A Day….

Anyone else feel like they are living in the movie Groundhog Day?

So thankful for the normalcy that running brings me.

When I got home I saw Brooke’s face smashed against the window ha… we are starting to experience some cabin fever.

I did Megan’s 23 minute Leg Circuit (she is posting awesome workouts on her IG for us all to do at home) and it burned my legs big time.

Please note:  The day also included tears from all three girls at different times, an entire can of root beer spilled over freshly mopped floors, a (few) potty accidents all over the floors in a different spot, a lot of missing of our people/normal life and a few fried brains as we try to figure out all of the assignments we need to get done:) but the above pictures were some pretty amazing highlights of the day!

I truly don’t hate being home with my kids, the key is getting outside each day. We’re about to have 3 days in a row of downpours All day and I’m definitely scared haha! Planning to go hiking this afternoon and hope they burn off lots of energy!

We’ve been watching cupcake wars and my kids love it! Now my son wants to make all these fancy cupcakes though and I’m more of a cookie baker and fan . I guess I did it to myself. Tempted to try the cookie recipe you linked

I still love jeans for my days off!

I totally agree with you, the most important thing is getting fresh air for everyone! I really hope that you get a few breaks from all of the rain so you can get out! Enjoy the hike and I need to watch that show with Brooke, she will love it. Let me know if you try the cookies. Keep me updated with how you are all doing Sara!

My husband and I sit on the porch after we put the baby to sleep too! My favorite part of the day :)

Reply

Keep on enjoying it… the simplicity and fresh air is so needed after a long day! Hope your Wednesday is a beautiful one Kelly!

haha, athleisure wear pants for life!!! I am so happy! My son asked me the other day “are those your pajamas or your day clothes?” I might need to pull out the nicer stuff soon;-).

I have a stomach bug or something so I am spending extra, extra time on the couch. Thankfully I still have an appetite for bland foods.

I have realized I don’t mind cooking either–I have time to clean up the kitchen! Now if I could get everyone to agree/give me ideas of what they want to eat!

Gas is so cheap right now. I was thinking I should take the kids for a drive. I could scout out some new bike routes–we have so many country roads and I have no idea where they go.

Happy Wednesday Janae!

Reply

Pajamas or day clothes hahahah that just made my day! Thank you SO much for telling me that. I am SO sorry you have been sick on top of everything else. I hope you feel back to yourself ASAP! Oh that is true, we even have time to clean up now, it really is so nice. Yes, go for a nice drive together. Thanks Becky, you too!

Reply

Sentence for the day: thanks Janae for your honesty and I hope you have a good rest of the week please know that your posts are encouraging and I am glad you are making the effort to smile but also share the hard times!

Reply

THANK YOU SO MUCH CHLOE. This sure means a lot to me. We are all in this together and please keep me in the loop with how you are doing! Thanks again, you made me smile!

My kids’ school gave work, but since it’s a state of emergency we don’t have to do it. Maybe that’s why Alabama is last in the country in reading and math ;o) The sun is finally supposed to come out today, so hopefully we can spend the day outside.

Reply

Oh wow, that is interesting! I am just looking forward to spring break so we get a break from it ha. ENJOY the sunshine today Claire. Nothing is better for us than that fresh air and time outside:).

Reply

I am also so thankful for the normalcy running and exercise is bringing me. I’m trying to keep some aspects of my routine consistent, even though I’m not going back to work this year (I’m a teacher and we found out we are all distance learning for the rest of the year . . . it’s heartbreaking). For me, that means running, eating breakfast at my desk while I read emails (and your blog post!), and eating a lot of my regular meals.

If you are struggling at all with distance learning . . . please know that teachers are feeling overwhelmed, too! It’s tough for all of us–not only because of figuring out technology and not being there to directly teach, but because we really miss our classes. We are in it together and want families to find what works best for them, not add to their load. Sending so much love.

Reply

Oh Kristin, that is so hard. Where are you at? In Utah they just said May 1st is the new plan but I’m really doubting that happening. Thank you for doing what you do and I bet your students really miss you! I am SO thankful for and impressed with all that you do and this is so good for me to learn what is going on in Brooke and Knox’s learning. I’m calling it a win, my brain might feel a little fried for just a few more days! Keep me updated with how you are doing and good luck!

OMG, that fort kit reminds me of the forts my brothers and I used to build with our Giant Tinkertoy set back in the 70’s.

https://www.flickr.com/photos/mathowie/3135312519

They stopped making them – probably because the pieces were so big and heavy that kids would use them as swords to fight each other and end up injuring their brothers. Not that I would know anything about that….

Reply

Ahhh those are pretty much the same thing… how cool! These ones are much lighter ha and luckily no fighting yet but I can see how that would have been a problem (for you and your brothers;)! Have a great day John!

Reply

Lots of ups and downs in different ways during this time. I like that you acknowledge there are downs but strive to embrace the ups :)
Sentence of the day: I don’t have all the answers (prompted by the thought, ‘I’m not equipped to argue with my 11-y.o. son’). He doesn’t know that his favorite snack is being delivered to the house later today & I think it will put a smile on his face if he hasn’t gotten over being frustrated with me yet ~ha~
Maybe we’ll make Emilee’s cookie recipe and compare it to the toll house version we made yesterday. Can we have too many cookies? LOL

Reply

We are all on quite the roller coaster aren’t we?! HOW FUN that you are having his favorite snack delivered, I love that! Hahaha good luck with finding those answers and thank goodness for Google. You really can’t have too many cookies so make them ASAP! Hope you have a great day together!

Sentence of the day….I wish they would stop fighting.

I woke up at 3 am trying to figure out the best ways to keep my kids occupied but keep me sane. We had quite a few tears and argument yesterday between my 9 and 13 year old. Thanks for the suggestions for forts and driving.

I have found I have to move at the start and end of everyday, baking something in the middle of the day has become my new highlight, and my caffeine intake has to be WAY down from my typical days.

Our district is still trying to put together their plan for online school for the rest of the year, so we will see how that might give some structure to the day.

My hubby and I are going for a walk almost every evening to spend time together. That has been really nice.

Reply

Oh fighting is so hard… I’m hoping that they stop fighting for you too! Good luck today, I hope it is much better. Those must be very tough ages to keep busy right now! I like what you said about moving at the start and end of everyday. Hahaha there should be no limit on caffeine right now. Good luck Jenny and keep me in the loop with how it is all going!

Reply

I love wearing leggings or joggers during the day too! Don’t know how I’ll go back to wearing work pants or jeans. I read that you should still dress up when working from home, but honestly, my comfy clothes just sound so much better than real clothes haha.

Reply

Maybe we will never go back to wearing jeans again ha. Keep enjoying those comfy clothes… I think those help us to be much more productive! Thanks Mariah!

Reply

I’ve cried every day for the past week and a half! So thanks for sharing a bit of the realness going on but love your positive attitude for the highlights

Reply

You aren’t alone Mary. I really wish I could give you a big hug right now. This is tough stuff but you are doing an amazing job!

Reply

I’m so jealous of your hot tub!! You must have been inspired to order it before all of the craziness haha

Sentence: I will be eating straight avocado for the next two days. I bought a bag at Costco when I stocked up last week, and of course they all ripened at the exact same second. Any suggestions? Favourite avocado recipes?? Also – what have you been eating for lunches at home? I’m in a major rut/trying to use up pantry items and clearly not a very creative chef.

Thanks for keeping it real and positive! :) Have a great day!

Reply

Ahhh throw them in the fridge right now! Once they are ripe we put them in the fridge (thanks to a reader sharing this with me) and they last about a week. I hope it works for you! Oh the lunchtime part is hard because we are usually busy with school but we are doing a lot of leftovers, eggs, pancakes and sandwiches. We need to get more creative though… once I am I’ll post all of my ideas ha. Have a great day Rachel!

Reply

Awesome! Thank you, I will go put them in there right now! And that would be wonderful haha I don’t know if I’ve ever eaten so many sandwiches in my life.

Ha ha…. It really does feel like we’re living in Groundhog Day!
I too, am so thankful for the normalcy of running each day. Just to get some fresh air is a big help!
The one thing I know we are all missing is the simple fact of going out to our favorite place for dinner, sitting at our usual table and talking with our favorite server. We can definitely place an order for pickup, but it’s not the same.
Cities around us are starting to close the beaches and parks, which is so sad to hear, but I think it’s necessary. We are under an order from the governor to stay inside ( exceptions include being able to go out for exercise or to the grocery store), but it seems like a lot of people are ignoring this order. I think it’s time to really listen and follow directions on how and what we can do to help stop or slow the spread of this virus. (Sorry for the rant ?)
We’re all in this together, and we will get through it.
Keep staying positive, and thank you for sharing your days with us!

I am really missing those simple things around here too… I hope you guys are back at your favorite restaurant at the same table soon! I think that might be necessary too… we need people home! Thank you for sharing that and I’m sending you hugs. Thank you for your sweet words my friend!

My sentence for the day is everything is better after a good cry and a long run!
We/I’ve been feeling the stress build up and my tipping point was last night after all the little things piled up into a mountain that I didn’t have energy to climb. Woke up and ran 7 miles in the rain and I feel brand new!
Have a great day!

Reply

I could not agree with you more. Jenny, thank you for sharing and I am so happy that you were able to get out for a good run… it’s the best medicine. The fact that your run was in the rain made it even more healing I bet! Thank you friend and you too, you are doing an amazing job!

Reply

I love your disclaimer, because our days are the same. We have some pretty good highlights, but we’re also struggling sometimes with being on 100 m2 with four (almost five!) people and a dog ALL DAY LONG! The weather here is pretty good, so thank goodness we can spend some time outside in our yard (which is pretty much as big as your kids’ fort but we’re enjoying it anyway!

Reply

SANNE!! My dear friend… ALMOST 5!! I keep waiting to hear about your new little one joining the family. You guys are amazing for doing so well all together inside and in the yard (haha you made me laugh). SO good to hear from you and I hope you are feeling great today!

Reply

Hi Janae! I completely agree about Groundhog Day. Thank goodness everyone else is doing this too, I think that makes it easier. I live alone so I’ve been listening to lots of podcasts to get through the day.

Happy Wednesday!

Reply

Thank goodness for podcasts!! I’m so glad we have those. Sure wish we could all get together and hang out or go to lunch today. Thinking about you Amy and I hope your day is a beautiful one!

Reply

I saw sidewalk chalk art in front of a couple houses while out on my run this morning – one had “believe” “be still” “this shall pass” and some other cute art. Totally made my run!!

Reply

That makes me SO happy! I’m going to do that with my kids once it stop raining/snowing. Thank you for sharing friend. I hope you are having a beautiful day!

Reply

Are you guys potty training Sky?

Reply

I’m sure trying hahah… wish me luck:) Have a great day Catie!

Reply

Thank you for always keeping it real with your note at the end. It’s helpful to focus on the highlights but also know there are lowlights mixed in. Also, definitely laughed out loud at Skye’s reaction to having to get out of the hot tub! haha!

My sentence of the day is: Bring on spring!!!!

Reply

Thank you Amanda for your sweet comment and taking the time to tell me this. I’m with you on bringing on spring… we are all so ready! Keep me updated with how you are doing friend!

Reply

My sentence of the day – “wish I was at home.” As an “essential employee”, I’m still going to work. Only half the people are here, so it’s a bit lonely, but I am especially envious of my family who are at home. I feel like they are on vacation and I still have to work! It would be great to just get out bed and put on some sweatpants because I don’t have to go anywhere. Enjoy your family time!!

Reply

Lisa, that must be incredibly hard. I’m thinking about you. I hope that this weekend you get some time off and get to soak in some relaxation and family time.

Reply

My sentence: Sometimes you need to eat 5cookies alone on the porch just because that was the form of self-care that trumped all others today.

Reply

Well, now I know how I’ll be taking care of myself today! Thank you friend, I hope you are all doing well!

Reply

Thanks for continuing your blog Janae. reading it is definitely a highlight of my day. Today NZ goes into lockdown. They have said we can’t go out in the car at all unless we are getting essentials like groceries or medical reasons. I had been planning on going hiking in solitude and beach trips alone but that is now off the cards so we are going to be stuck at home for minimum of a month! Apart from when I go to work (emergency department nurse) so I guess I have it a bit better than my husband who is stuck at home 100% of the time!!! Im currently working on making home activities to keep the kiddos entertained. Thank goodness for the internet! Also, thank goodness for my treadmill. I usually hate it but it is my only option! Stay safe Janae. We’ll all get through this!

Reply

Thank YOU Leigh for reading, I really appreciate it. Oh this is so so hard. I really hope that when you guys are home you are able to have some really great times together as you navigate this all. Thank you SO much for the work that you do and saving others. Enjoy those treadmill miles, I am SO happy that you have one (and hopefully you can get caught up on all of your favorite shows while you are on it!

If you don’t follow Busy Toddler on Instagram, you should. I just bought her “Playing Preschool” packet to start doing “school” with my toddler, and it’s been really nice to have that structure for him. Might help for Skye?

Reply

I totally need to buy her packet… I’ve seen her talk about it and now that I’ve heard it’s great, I need to get it! Thanks Jacqui!

My word for the day is team work, not a sentence.

So I am a preschool special Ed teacher and they shutdown us down for this week. They said no matter what we would not return until next week. 4 pm yesterday an email comes through that by the way we open tomorrow and instead of part time this week you have 3 full days!! We start all Telepractice on Monday. Umm… So my youngest has work all week but her complete online ed starts Mon and my middle schooler just has to study. For my staff meeting my 9 yr old sat and did her reading work beside me. Then my 12 yr old took over. The two of them worked through our daily schedule, did what we have been doing. My husband worked from his make shift office and did help settle an arguement right at the start of our day. We worked as a team. My girls have been amazing and they love just being with eachother. They have missed not being at the same school this year and whenever we do return it’s gonna be hard on them ( or maybe they will be sick of each other by then???). Then my coworkers and I came together in teams and made a huge amount of materials for Telepractice. So teamwork it is!!!

I love your comment so much Carrie. You are absolutely amazing for all that you do and everyone you help. LOVE the team work and you have inspired me. You are setting an amazing example for your kids. I hope you have a beautiful night!

If you haven’t already, you have to try Joanna Gaines’ chocolate chip cookie recipe! It’s the perfect mix of chewy and and soft and my new go-to chocolate chip cookie! You can just google the recipe or she made a youtube video about it and it’s on the amazon preview for her cookbook! Based on the cookies you like I think this one will be a huge hit! I hope you are continue to safe and healthy during this crazy time! :)
