I’ll never my whiten my teeth like that again. The white strips are good enough. Hurt so bad!

Reply

I learned my lesson… white strips from here on out! Hope you are having a beautiful (and most likely very exciting) day Kathee!

Reply

So your sister locked up the candy and tech stuff so they can’t use it over their spring break? Is that what she’s doing?

Reply

Yep:) My sis-in-law is having a tech-free candy-free spring break with her FIVE kids (she is brave;). I hope you have the best day Mary!

I’m so bummed I was supposed to run Boston for my first time. I’m frustrated that they postponed to a weekend where there’s already a large event going on so rooms are impossible to find! Rebooking everything has been difficult. HOWEVER I’m trying to stay positive and looking back on my training thus far I’d say I’ve done some pretty amazing things! We’ve run long runs in 10 degree weather at 4/5a! Mental toughness is stronger than I thought! I thought of your partner who’s been putting those miles in! How did she take the news?!

I just had my first half marathon in Madrid, Spain cancelled (29th March). Spain has also cancelled all major running events/sporting events until at least 30th April – 31st May. I’ll keep running though and will hopefully get a chance to run it in October when it’s been re-scheduled for!

Reply

Oh Ari, I am SO so sorry. All of the hard work you’ve put in is just making you stronger and stronger and I see a PR in October! Hope your Thursday is a beautiful one:)

I feel so bad for all the runners who have had races cancelled! But I completely understand! I read somewhere (maybe your old coach Mary’s IG) that was so encouraging. Even if you were training for the NY half marathon, your fitness you’ve gained from the training will be a great base for the next race. Be mad, be sad, but find a new race and keep going. I loved that!
We have a couple of family weddings coming up, out of town with one being in Seattle, and we are all just hoping/praying that everyone will be able to get to the weddings. One is at the end of April, the other on Memorial weekend, so hopefully things will be ok by then.
Hopefully your teeth are feeling much better today!
Oh, keep posting pictures and updates on your backyard. I’m needing to redo our’s, so would love to see the progress at your house ?
Have a great day!

Reply

YES YES YES… Mary’s perspective was amazing! She is just the best! I really hope that the weddings are able to continue as planned with everyone there. Thank you SO much and luckily I woke up feeling alive again. Oh I totally will… it’s going to be nuts ha. SO so much to do. Keep me updated with how yours goes too! Thanks friend, you too!

My races haven’t been cancelled yet, but I am now expecting them to; a 20 mile race in two weeks, and then a marathon at the end of April. I am definitely already bummed, as training is going well but will just use that to fuel a new training cycle for a fall marathon instead!

Reply

I love your attitude Alicia! Totally normal to feel bummed and so sad but good for you to remember that all of your training is still there and you’ll build upon it for your fall marathon instead! You’ve got this Alicia!

I got my teeth whitened about a year ago. Worth it but ughhhh what a pain in the arse! I think my dentist called them “zingers” which is random shooting pain in your gums. Ya… that was fun.

I am a big coffee drinker so getting my teeth whitened once every 1.5 years is almost a must.

Reply

ZINGERS… that is the perfect word for it! Yesterday I felt like it wasn’t worth it but now I don’t have any pain and love the outcome so maybe it was worth it ha. I hope your Thursday is a wonderful one:)

Reply

I’m sorta looking forward to (hoping for) my office building opting for telework for a bit–I don’t want anyone to be sick, but as a preventive measure it would be a good idea to do it soon.

Reply

I totally agree. I hope you’ll keep me updated on when it does happen! I’m guessing out schools will be soon too. Hope your day is a great one Corey!

Reply

I love how your sister locked up the electronics and candy for spring break! My kids are going to my parents house for spring break–I don’t think my mom could follow through with the no candy;-)

I am nervous about traveling for spring break! I am mostly worried about bring the virus home and exposing my kids and parents! We have been planning this trip for over a year. And we haven’t been on vacation and we rarely have date nights, so this whole virus is putting a damper on things! I was planning on a spring race, but haven’t paid/committed yet!

Reply

Hahah grandmas cannot follow the no treats thing! So fun that they get to do that this year, they will remember that forever. I forgot where you guys are going?! I really hope it works out… YOU GUYS NEED A TRIP TOGETHER!!! Keep me updated Becky!

I was supposed to run the NYC Half this weekend which was cancelled. They are offering a full refund (which is great), OR a guaranteed non-complimentary entry for next year so we’d have to pay the entry fee again but wouldn’t have to try to get in via lottery or charity. We’re going to NYC anyway because our AirBNB wouldn’t let us out of our reservation so I’m running a virtual half in Central Park.

Reply

That is VERY awesome that NYC half is being so accommodating but bummer that AirBNB wouldn’t let you switch things around. I hope you have the best time there and enjoy that virtual half! Eat a lot of bagels for me please:). Let me know how it goes Shelley!

Reply

The race I plan to run in May sent an email out yesterday that everything is still going forward as planned for right now. They are, of course, monitoring the situation. I haven’t signed up for it yet and kind of just want to wait for a bit now, but the price goes up this weekend…

Reply

That’s good to hear that they are still planning to move forward but yeah… hard to pay when you don’t know 100% for sure! I feel like most of them that are canceling are reimbursing so maybe get the cheaper price?! That’s tough! Good luck Linda and let me know what happens! Have a great day!

Reply

I had my 5K cancelled for 3/14. No refund offered – you could run it “virtual” or defer it for a fee.

And the biggie for me – the Half Marathon I was going to run for my 55th birthday 3/29 has been postponed. If my hamstring is up for it, I still plan to run 13.1 miles as a birthday present to myself.

Andrew taking on the backyard retaining walls is awesome. I’m sure he will do his homework, but make sure he looks into using reinforcing fabric between layers. i have not used it – but I have read it helps immensely to keep the wall from sliding over the years. Please take lots of before and after pics for us – will give me some inspiration for my own backyard.

Reply

Oh bummer that there was no refund! I feel like most of the race cancellations are doing refunds. I think that running the 13.1 on your bday is an amazing gift and HAPPY BDAY MONTH JOHN! GOOD to know about the reinforcing fabric, and I will keep you all very updated with the process… we have a lot of work up ahead. Have a great day JOHN!

Reply

Yeah, I had a 10 miler on Sunday and we can run it virtually ( for the same cost) or transfer it to another race. It stinks because all the other races are far from me! I am running my 10 miler at race pace tomorrow though just because I tapered and trained for it!!

I live in Boston and the mayor was on the radio this morning. They are in discussions around canceling the Boston Marathon. Given everything happening here, I would expect them to cancel by the end of the weekend. It’s disappointing for those that have worked so hard, but I’m sure they will BQs and charity runners to come back the following year. There are just way too many crowds and too many runners. It is getting very scary here….we have to keep everyone safe.
Hope everyone stays safe and healthy. Avoid crowds as much as possible. Don’t go out unless you have to. Cabin fever is real, but very necessary right now…

Reply

I’ve really been wondering what will happen with the marathon. I heard somewhere it might be postponed? Stay healthy Mary and keep me updated on how you are doing. Thinking about you!

Reply

Sentence per day- I live in Washington DC and school just got cancelled. This is really surreal and scary. I teach middle school kids, and they are scared too. I’m sorry, because this is such a positive blog but if anyone has any words of wisdom, I’d love some!

Reply

Bree. I’m here for you! I’m really struggling with worry too because my parents and grandma all have risk factors if they do get it. I just keep reminding myself to control what I can and give the rest to God. You are doing amazing and I hope you are able to get outside often, that always helps me. I’m here anytime you want to email!

Reply

Hi Janae! Things are getting serious here too in Oregon.. no gatherings of over 250 people allowed and my running club is suspended :(. Can’t stop me from running outside by myself though, we need running now more than ever!

Hope your teeth feel better soon and stay healthy!

Reply

Oh wow Amy! Seriously, we are so lucky we get running to help us through the tough times! Thank you so much and they are feeling so much better today thankfully! I hope your Thursday has been a great one so far!

Reply

My half marathon got canceled this Saturday, which was to be expected since were in Washington and our governor banned gatherings of 250 or more people. Bright side: I’m going skiing with my coworkers instead! The real kicker is that I’m supposed to get married up here in May and if it just keeps getting worse I’m not sure what we’re gonna do.

Reply

Oh I am SO glad that you are able to go skiing with your coworkers now but huge bummer about the race! I am really hoping that this is figured out by the time of your wedding Jade. Will you please keep me updated on it all!?!

I had a sleepless night last night, for no reason, I am drag city today and eating all the sugar to keep my eyeballs open.

Reply

I HATE THOSE NIGHTS! Wish I could come eat sugar with you haha… I feel tired for no reason today! Hope you get an early bedtime tonight!

Reply

Your sister is SO brave! Can’t imagine doing that, but then again I have an only so she doesn’t have any siblings to entertain her/each other. I cancelled a girls trip to New Jersey that I was really looking forward to … BOO! But I’m a doctor and it is my duty right now to be available to care for patients and practice social distancing by avoiding non essential air travel. As of today, domestic and international air travel is being “strongly discouraged for all health care workers” and anyone travelling outside of Canada has to report to a special dept. in the hospital on their return.

Reply

Oh one kid is much different than doing this with five kids. So bummed about your trip! You are amazing for doing what you do and helping others so much! Thanks Andrea!

I’m in St. Louis and our large St. Patrick’s Day 5 miler was cancelled this weekend, and our big spring marathon/half (Go! St. Louis) was cancelled (supposed to be weekend of March 28.)

Reply

Oh that is SO so hard Sara! I hope you are able to do the races on your own on your favorite paths! This stuff is hard! I hope you have a beautiful rest of your day:)

Reply

Yes! Just found out that all the Shamrock races in Virginia Beach scheduled next weekend are cancelled. My teenage daughter wanted to run her very first 1/2, and we were going to run together (unless she took off in the race because she’s 17 and I’m not). She has been so excited for this, and I’m so sad for her. :(

Reply

Oh Wendy, I feel terrible about your daughter. I hope you guys can do your own virtual type race together… give her a hug for me! So excited that you guys are running together now:)

Reply

My race for this Saturday was announced to be canceled yesterday. I’m super bummed as this is my first race postpartum. But I plan on mapping out 3.1 miles around my neighborhood and still completing my run!

Reply

Catie, that is so so hard. I am CHEERING for you big time on Saturday as you do the race on your own. Let me know how it goes!

Reply

The first thing I thought of when you said Andrews work had a travel ban was Brooke visiting her dad. I hope there aren’t any issues with that part of it.
My next race is a half marathon the first week of June so I think it should be ok!

Reply

That is so kind of you to think of that! Brooke’s dad and I decided that we will just be skipping the months until this is all figured out but they will get in more FaceTime etc until then!

Oh I really hope your June race doesn’t get cancelled wahoo and you are going to rock it!

More than a sentence :
I will hope that you update us tomorrow with NO pain in your teeth! I thought of getting my teeth whitened a few years ago and I called to make the appointment and the nurse said that I should take an IB profin for it… and I asked “why would I need that?” She said because some people experience pain. And then I said “um, no thank you.” Haaa!! I hope the pain was short-lived. Please give us your review when you get a chance!

Thanks for being a bright light to tune into, Janae.

Reply

You are just the best. Thank you Amanda for caring! I woke up this morning feeling totally fine again BUT the pain that I experienced yesterday will make it so I never ever do it again. You were smart! Hope you are doing well friend!

Reply

Well if it’s any consolation, your teeth do look beautiful! :) We just had a local 5k cancelled for next weekend. It’s so sad because it’s a really fun event for a great cause. A man whose little girl has Downs Syndrome started a charity a few years ago to raise money for a cafe that will employ those with special needs. They were expecting this year’s race to put them at their goal amount of funds to start breaking ground. So sad for them!

Hope your teeth feel better quickly! Have a great day!

Reply

Thank you Lindsay and that is so so sad! I wonder if they could do a virtual race instead and I would love to do it and blog about it. Let me know and thanks!

Reply

They are doing a virtual race! That would be so amazing Janae!! I will get the details from him and email you. You are seriously the sweetest human. :)

Oh I am SO GLAD!!! Send it over:). THANKS!

Sent yesterday through the contact form on the site. Hope it makes it to you! XO

They closed schools here pretty abruptly today and ever since then I can’t stop thinking about how crazy this is. It’s left me scared to be honest. I’m extremely worried about my dad who has CHF and he was also and still is (I think) a smoker. If he ends up getting this it’s going to be really bad. My mom is a nurse and is dragging him around everywhere to do errands, etc and its driving me mad. She should know better! Ugh! Sorry for the rant – had to get it out!

Reply

Jenn. I really am so so sorry. Will you keep me updated with how they are doing? My parents just started to be quarantined because they both have risk factors if they get it. I hope your day can start to do something similar. I’m here for you and I totally get your worry!

One of Singapore’s two annual marathons (haha, we’re small – there are really only two marathons a year, though quite a few halfs) has been cancelled.. I expect my smaller half at the end of April will be too. My trail run in Hong Kong was cancelled (that was supposed to be on 29 Feb, I mentioned this is an earlier comment I think!!).
To be honest I can’t say I’m particularly upset. training has been going well but I feel like in general I’m heading back into a frame of mind where I enjoy the training much more than the racing – this used to be the case until I had kids, and then I just soooo badly wanted to prove (to who, I do not know) that I could still run like I could pre-pregnancy. Haha. So I’m telling myself to enjoy the training for its inherent worth and how it improves my life. :) hope you have a nice day Janae!

Reply

I LOVE your attitude Chloe! You are a great example to us all. Keep me updated with how you guys are doing and I would love to come do a marathon in Singapore someday:)

Reply

The 10k I’m signed for tomorrow (near SLC!) is still on for now, though they’re not offering any food or water during or after the race. I’m keeping a protein bar and a large, electrolyted water in the car for afterwards!
I hope your teeth are feeling better. Eat lots of soft, buttered Great Harvest bread! :)
