Friday Favorites and Coach!

10 miles in the sunshine to start off the day with my neighbor @ 8:27 average pace.  Our husbands ask us if we ever run out of things to say on our runs and the answer is definitely no.

How Skye feels about me doing her hair.

Andrew and I bought a thing of croissants, chicken salad and grapes from Costco and it is providing many meals for us.

IMG 8439

I’d like to introduce you to the newest Varsity Assistant Coach.

IMG 8481

My nephew is the goalie and the coach has asked Andrew to come on board.  Andrew played soccer for years and is really good at it (my nephew’s coach is friend’s with Andrew’s old coach:) and I’m so happy he has a chance to get back to doing something he loves!

Tacos for dinner and still so thankful to those of you that taught me to stick my ripe avocados in the fridge so they last much longer!

I have a few favorite things to share for the week!

*A super simple T-Shirt Dress that I’m prepared to wear two times a week all summer.  They offer a lot of great colors, the price is great and I love it with a pair of converse.  I am SO ready to be at the parks and pools every day with the kids.

IMG 8447

*It’s funny to me how important the little things like rubber bands can be to runners.  They are very important and I have finalized my favorites down to two selections.

Megan D gave me the one below (it comes in a 3 pack) for my bday because they are her absolute favorite for working out.  The truly wonderful thing about them for me is that they don’t leave a big crease in my hair (bc let’s be honest, the odds of me washing my hair after a run are about 25%) and hold all of my hair in securely and comfortably.  I can’t find them online but they are from H&M and next time you are close to one, try them out.

IMG 6944

*My sister-in-law that loves to work out too told me about these here!  They are also much more gentle on my hair compared to the normal ones I used to use and my ponytail doesn’t slip around with these at all.  They keep everything right in place.  Aren’t you glad I cover such important topics like this;)

IMG 7976

*This one might be more of a problem than a good thing… Our mall just got the store Cotton On Kids and when we were walking by it I thought I would just peak inside for a minute.  After about 2 minutes I realized that they have my favorite kid clothes (that are very affordable).  The part that really made me excited is how I can match Skye and Brooke in everything now because their clothing ranges from baby to 9-10 in the all of the same items.  It’s usually pretty hard for me to find things they can match in that I love because they are in different sections because of their age.  If you are wondering why they are matching all of the time now.. Cotton On is why.

IMG 8047

*Loved loved loved this episode with Kellyn Taylor.  I look up to her in so many ways.

IMG 8384

*Laura told me about the @fastwomen newsletter the other day and now I am their biggest fan.  You can subscribe here and I’ve read through the last few newsletters and they are so so good.  The trials recap was SO good!  I’m going to be looking forward to this weekly.

*Less eating out has made me be a little bit more creative and I brought Coldstone to my house…. I’m the weirdo that mixes in gummy bears and brownies into my Coldstone when we go there.

Brianne!!! “I participated in the RunDisney Princess 1/2 marathon weekend last weekend and completed my 1st 1/2 marathon! My best friend and I made a runcation out of the weekend so it was great to run alongside one of my best friends since high school.

We completed a 5k, 10k and 1/2 within 3 consecutive days and while we were exhausted we cannot wait to run again! The races are so well organized even though there were over 50,000 people running! I am so proud of my hard work and dedication to prepare me for the race weekend and I can’t stop smiling when I look at all of my medals I brought home! 3 races, 3 days and 4 medals!”

I really need to find some hair ties that are more gentle on my hair! I don’t think I make an overly tight ponytail in my hair, but I’ve got a section of hair in the back that looks very damaged. Going to get it cut today! I can only guess it’s from putting in a ponytail every day? Such a bummer :( That band from Megan looks great. I’ll have to see if our H&M has them! Looks like t-shirt material maybe?

Reply

Yeah they do feel like a t-shirt, I am seriously in love with them. I hope you love them too! I get that ponytail damage too but I just have to wear one while I run! Hope your weekend is off to a great start friend!

How did I not know the fridge and avocado trick? I would have thought the opposite, that they would turn all weird! And why is it that opening an avocado (remember to rinse the outside first!) and having it be pristine is like winning ultimate food lottery?!

I haven’t been to Coldstone for YEARS but I remember doing a graham cracker (or shortbread?) and strawberry mix in with almonds or chocolate chips. All I can say is that I loved it. Reminds me that summer season means Tillamook Marionberry Pie flavor. I’m in it for the pie crust crumbles, honestly.

Reply

Kelly! You have to try it and let me know how it works for you:). Seriously, a beautifully ripe avocado is the best win! Well now I need to find that flavor of ice cream, Tillamook is the best and I need pie crust crumbles. Enjoy your weekend!

Omg yay for Andrew!!!!! I was goalie on our varsity team all of hs and played goalie in college for our d3 team!! That is so exciting for him! also I love the matching outfits for the girls- I have one baby girl now and hope our next one is a girl too so I can make them match!

Reply

No way! That is awesome Caitlin and I hope you get to start matching soon too! Keep me updated on your life!

How fun for Andrew! I had no idea that there was such a thing as a goalie coach! We don’t have soccer here for a sport since there aren’t enough kids.

I am going to get pedicures with some friends this weekend. I haven’t had one in over 14 years!

No run today. It was a lighter strength training day and a walk.

Happy Friday Janae!

I guess he is technically an assistant coach but that is a big focus for him now! PEDICURE–> enjoy! Thanks Becky and you too!

Your nails are so pretty…I don’t recall you ever wearing them long?
Another ponytail holder to try are the ones that look like telephone cords. They hold my super thick hair well and I don’t notice a bend when I take them out.
Coldstone – cake batter plain! :)

Reply

Thanks Shannon! I just started the long thing about a month ago and I’m really loving it (and Andrew loves back scratches with them now ha;) Oh I love those ponytail holders too. You and Andrew are twins… he gets that too and I wonder why he doesn’t get mix-ins. I hope you have a great weekend!

Congratulations to Andrew!! That will be so fun!
Several years ago, my husband and I did the Dumbo Double Dare at Disneyland. It was so much fun!! 10K on Saturday and a half marathon on Sunday. These races are super crowded, but so much fun! Disney knows how to handle large crowds for sure! The 1st mile we did a lot of weaving around people, but once we were able to get to where the other people who were running our pace, it was really great. Disney races are expensive, but worth it! I would love to do another one sometime.
I love that you found a store that will make it easy for you to have your girls match! So cute!
Off for a quick run, then my favorite Friday pilates class!
Have a great Friday Janae ?

Oh I love that you and your husband did that together. What a fun weekend! I seriously need to do one someday. Hope your run and pilates were great. Thanks Wendy, you too!

This weekend I’m taking a quick trip to Cleveland! One of my husband’s friends moved out there so we’re going to spend a day there and go to a Cavaliers game and some breweries. Luckily it’s a quick drive for us so I’m excited :)

No run today- long run tomorrow! Might go for a lunchtime walk though, it’s beautiful outside today. Hope you have a great weekend!

Enjoy your weekend in Cleveland with your husband and friends! Let me know how that long run goes, I’m cheering for you! Thanks and you too!

Hi Janae! You asked earlier in the week about recaps of the Trials. This is an excellent one by Jenny Donnelly! I was there as a spectator and she gives such a great overview of what it was like that day as a runner.

I. Cannot. Wait. Thank you SO much! Jenny and I are actually friends (well, we met once;) and I think the world of her. So cool that you were able to be there. Excited to read and have a great weekend Tara!

Brianne – congrats on your first half, that is awesome!

I have not Coldstone in quite a while. My go to is Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough ice cream on Saturday night. I will either get a mixed chocolate/vanllla Frosty from Wendy’s or a Reese’s Blizzard from Dairy Queen from time to time.

Still no running for me until March 14th – that will give my hamstring 3 full weeks off of running.

However – they cancelled my March 14th Shamrock 5K in Kirkland due to the Coronavirus! They also cancelled another local race here, the Lake Stevens Half. It is getting pretty crazy. I sure hope they don’t cancel my half marathon on 3/29!

Reply

Now you have me needing a Reese’s Blizzard asap! Your hamstring is going to be so happy with you for giving it that three weeks off. That is so interesting about all of the races being cancelled near you… are there any cases closeby? So cool that you coached too and yes, it is for the high school! Have the best weekend!

Reply

Janae,

The Kirkland Shamrock 5K I was signed up for is about a 15 minute drive from where I live (Lynnwood). Kirkland is where the elderly care center is that has had most of the Covid-19 deaths. There have been other cases North and South of here.

The local news basically shows Covid-19 stuff all day long, which just fuels the hysteria. It is pretty crazy around here. A lot of big cancellations like ECCC (Comic Con) and UW campuses cancelling classroom sessions for the remaining week of the quarter.

Thanks so much John!

Oh – and congrats Andrew on your coaching gig! As I mentioned prior; I coached rec league soccer for both my kids from K-7th grade. Is this a High School team Andrew is helping with? That is really awesome!

Reply

I love that Pocahontas medal!!

I have a 5k tomorrow and a half on Sunday………..I’ll have 4 medals from this weekend series by the end of Sunday so I am ready! Plus some running group pals are running the 5k and I am so excited for them!
No run today, just hitting the expo later!

You are going to have a blast this weekend… super excited for you! Have FUN Loribeth!

Congrats Andrew! And Skye … that’s how I looked every time my mom did my hair! She was relieved when I wanted to short hair cut because that meant she could stop doing my hair! Ha! But then I looked like a boy and wanted my ears pierced … it’s always something!
This weekend we’re going to an indoor water park hotel for my youngest sons birthday! I love that he prefers going there w/ the fam over a party. So much less work for me! Lol!
No run today because my tendon has been acting up. I did manage 40 minutes on the stair climber without making my HR peak too high which is just what I needed!
Have a great day!

Reply

Hahaha it really is always something and now I’m tempted to cut Skye’s hair short. Okay, you have to let me know how the party goes… the kids want to go to one of those types of hotels soon! I hope your tendon is happy asap and the stair climber kills me… such a good workout. Thanks and you too Jenny!

Hey Janae!
I just want to validate your love for frozen gummy bears. Chocolate ice cream + gummy bears for life. My other favourite is vanilla + oreos. Combos that never disappoint!
You mentioned yesterday you’re thinking about checking out Banff! I highly recommend :) I live in Calgary (about an hour away!) and Alberta is a beautiful place to explore in the summer! There are a ton of fun/cheap things to do with kiddos in the mountains (hiking, camping, mountain biking, hot springs) and if you want to take another mini road trip, there is a dinosaur museum and more fun hiking in Drumheller! Theres tons of good info here: https://www.travelalberta.com/ca/things-to-do/summer-outdoor-activities/hiking/ (if you haven’t already found it!)

Have a great weekend! :)

After seeing just the pictures on that website, now I know we must go there. I think it would be a win for everyone in the family, thanks for sharing and I can’t wait… also, we should meet there for chocolate ice cream + frozen gummy bears because we just are meant to be friends with that combo. Thanks Rachel, you too!

Reply

Absolutely! Yes please visit, you will not be disappointed! There are also manyyyyy amazing places to get a good trail run in :) so let’s do that too and then go get ice cream. Also there is a chocolate shop that sells caramel apples coated in gummy bears. Just FYI!

Reply

Hi Janae! Have you tried the Albanese gummy bears? They come in 12 flavors and the colors are so pretty (not sure if that makes them worse for you haha). This weekend I’m looking forward to running with my running club for a long run (I haven’t joined them for a while) and maybe some engagement pictures!! Happy Friday!

Reply

Hey Amy! I LOVE THOSE GUMMY BEARS so much! Now I need to go get some. Have a blast with your running club and engagement pictures… wahoo! So excited for you!

My baby girl is turning 16 this weekend!!! Holy cow.

I love gummy bears but cannot do them in my ice cream because they get too cold and I don’t like the texture.

I did a Disney race at Disneyland when they still did them; hopefully, they’ll bring those back! I just did the Dopey Challenge with my husband (for his 40th) and my sister and her husband. It was their first 1/2 marathon and the hubs and I did all 4 and visited 3 parks. It was amazing!

Today’s run was an easy 6 with friends.

Reply

16 YEARS OLD! What a special weekend… so does this mean she will have a license?! I’ll take your frozen gummy bears ha.. How fun that you were able to do that with your husband, sis and brother-in-law. I love that! Have a great weekend Marissa.

Hi Janae !
For me the point is not to always have something to say, but to be able to talk while running ! Haha !
Congrats to Andrew ! That’s great !
My 8 weeks plan to prepare my first race in may will begin in 3 weeks, and i don’t know at that time if the race will happen due to the situation all over the world with that covid. It would be my first one, I was so exited and couldn’t wait to begin the preparation.
But i have to admit that my motivation is now hurt by the fact that I don’t know if the race will happen. And I also note that I am “mentally” so tired this week, because i worry too much about the news and those figures that doble every day here , and I spent the week sleeping an hour more in the morning, instead of working out… I must get over !
I have to copy you, you seem to be always positive ! :)
Have a great day !

Reply

HEY INGRID! I’m so excited for you to prepare for your first race and I want you to know you aren’t alone! I’m right there with you and races are my biggest motivation so I have a hard time being motivated too if I don’t have a race. You are doing amazing, take one day at a time and I’ll just keep hoping that this is all figured out asap! Keep me updated with how you are doing!

Cotton On is the best!!
We have family in Australia and it’s my favourite store there. I hope the adult version comes to North America soon… and Cotton On Body has great workout clothes too. :)

Reply

I’m so glad you have discovered cotton on kids! It’s a staple here in New Zealand and I love love love their stuff! One of the few stores where the boys stuff AND girls stuff is super cute!

Congrats Andrew! Coaching is the best. The kids are lucky to have him.

Looking forward to (kind of) to my 20 mile Sunday long run.
Last week I went from a 5% chance of running Boston to something less than 50%. My boss has a way of finding numbers.
Makes me feel like the guy who got picked for Apollo 13 at the last minute. I’ve been training, but not training.
