Friday Favorites!!

First 2.1 miles on my way to meet Maddie = I felt terrible and wondered why I didn’t just stay in bed.

Last 4.9 miles with Maddie = the minutes went by too fast.

I’m fully addicted to running with people.

I haven’t expressed my Koala Clip love in a little while but this is really something I don’t know how I ran without a few years ago. It comes with me on every run and I don’t even feel my phone on my back (it clips onto your sports bra).  If you want a discount code for one HERE you can use the code: HRG10 for 10% off.

The two of us went over to my mom’s house for a little while.

IMG 8022

After school I told Brooke I would take her on a little date because she is leaving today for the weekend and her request was to go to the mall!

IMG 8033

We came home and I was too tired to make anything complicated so German Pancakes topped with strawberries for the win.

At least I can talk Skye into wearing her favorite shirts/dresses that she can’t live without over her pajamas/clothes sometimes.

I have a few favorite things to share today!  Affiliate links included.

*Emilee’s brother has created something we are obsessed with over here.  They are reusable silicone food storage bags and they come in a pack of 5 (1 XL, 1L, 1M and 2S)!  They are super easy to throw into the dishwasher and they freeze and heat really well!  Less waste + the bags are thick + the seals are tight + they are very durable = we are very happy about these bags and have been using them non-stop since we got them!

IMG 7981

*Andrew found another pair of ‘smooth like butter/I just want to live in these pajamas’ for me for my bday.  They are from Nordstrom HERE!  Still not sure how I went through so much of life without really soft pajamas but I never want to go back.

IMG 7284

*I love reading about other people’s lives and that is probably why I love blogging so much.  If I can find a good memoir or documentary to watch, I’m in heaven.  I heard that Open Book was really good from a few people and I also really loved it.  If you like memoirs, I definitely would pick this one up and I also really enjoyed Inside Out by Demi Moore!  I just ordered Full Circle by Andrea Barber and I can’t wait to dig in.

IMG 7230

*Another winning present from Andrew!  My new favorite socks.  Andrew had them made at PupSocks!

IMG 7182

*Okay, last bday present from Andrew but he got me the polarized version of my favorite sunglasses.

IMG 7841

*Last week Rachel told me about this podcast episode and if you need a pick-me-up then listen to this one.  It was just what I needed that day.

*Brooke left me this little note on my nightstand and it melted my heart.  SO THANKFUL she can text now when she is away and I feel like I’m checking my phone all day for texts when she is gone:)

IMG 7831

*Dr. Stacey Sims on IG!  She wrote the book ‘Roar’ which I loved and she is an expert on female physiology and endurance training.  She says often—> ‘Women are not small men.  Stop eating and training like one.’  I’ve learned a lot about how to work with my physiology/hormones from her and I was so excited to find her on IG.   If you are interested in understanding your cycle and physiology better I would definitely check out her stuff (and if you need someone to convince you to start lifting heavy.. she is your woman:).

Those reusable bags are SO cool! I’m going to check them out!
I’m very interested in Dr. Stacy Sims after reading these screenshots. Running/working out during certain times of the month certainly feels much harder or easier, but knowing what to expect from our bodies goes such a long way toward performance and preparation..I’m very intrigued.
I’m looking forward to a couple of running-related things this weekend: 1) start training this weekend with my 11-y.o. son who has agreed to train for and run a 5K with me this spring (YAY!), and 2) check out a local park that has a challenge trail run in May–laps start at the top of the hour, and you must complete the 5.18-mile lap in under an hour to continue to the next one.
Hope you have a great weekend with lots of texts from your sweet girl :)

It really is so interesting to be able to connect all of the different pieces of what is happening with our bodies during certain times and how to work with it! Let me know if you learn anything really cool:) SO thrilled about your son training for a race with you, that is so exciting! And that challenge trail run sounds like a blast, I want to join you. Have the best weekend Corey!

Those socks with the kids faces are so adorable!
I haven’t said this, but I really enjoy your Friday Favorites. I’ve picked up some great things, and currently have been wanting to find a couple of good books, so thank you ?
I am so looking forward to a very low key weekend! Not much happening, yay. I can’t wait to watch the Olympic trials!! So many great runners to cheer for!
It’s been like summer out here, so I am definitely going to get some yard work done too this weekend.
Off to a quick little run then a great pilates class.
Have a great Friday Janae!

That makes me so happy Wendy! It’s fun sharing our favorite things because I get quite passionate about them ha. Wish we could all watch the trials together, it’s going to be so fun to watch! Good luck with yard work and enjoy pilates. Thanks Wendy, you too!

Hi! where did you get your cute running top – hot pink and grey one? so cute!

Reply

Hey Toni! I got it at Target about 5 years ago… I’m still mad I didn’t grab more colors! Hope you have a great day!

Andrea Barber’s book is currently free on Kindle if you are an Amazon Prime member. Or at least it was a few days ago when I downloaded it after listening to her podcast (Ali on the Run). My wife and I love Fuller House and had no idea she was a runner!

Reply

Ahhh I didn’t know that! That is awesome! Let me know what you think of the book and have a fabulous weekend John!

Three words to describe my Friday: joyful, thankful, sunny ?. That note that Brooke left you made me smile. That is so sweet! I need some soft pajamas in my life stat! Thank you for your uplifting blog.

I love the three words you used to describe your Friday! Thank you so much for taking the time to tell me this and I hope you get soft pajamas asap! Enjoy your weekend Kimberly!

OMG I wish my mom were alive to see these these silicon bags! We always gave her a bad time about washing and reusing her disposable ziploc bags but she hated waste and hated throwing things away. She would have LOVED these!
Speaking of podcasts, have you heard of man vs horse? Super interesting listen: https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/radiolab/id152249110?i=1000460947415
Thank for sharing about Dr. Stacey Sims; I’ve just now (at 21 + 20 years of age) started learning about how our bodies need/crave specific foods and exercises during our various stages in our cycle. Like where has this info been our whole lives????
This weekend I’m looking forward to sleeping in!
I always take my Garmin; even if I don’t pay attention to it, it’s always on … I mean, how else will I prove to Strava land I ran?! Ha! But if I’m just running around my hood I wear a wast belt to hold my phone and key. If I’m on trails, I’m wearing my hydration vest full of all the things. Do you have a Salomon vest? I need to replace my vest (hello chafing) so I’m started to research options and I really want Salomon.
My Friday so far: cold, excited, happy :)
Have a great day!!

OH I love that your mom did that:) She sounds awesome! Thank you for telling me about that podcast, I’ll listen today! Right?! How have we gone this long without any knowledge about something our bodies go through EVERY month! You’ll have to keep me updated with anything that you learn! Yes, I have a Salomon vest and it is incredible. I have this one and I love it: https://amzn.to/3ag2liG . I did chafe wearing a tank top with mine but as long as I have some sort of sleeve on, it is perfect. Hope you get some hot chocolate today. Thanks Jenny!

Biographies are my favourite genre too! My plans for the weekend include starting a new book and now I’m really curious about Jessica Simpson’s, you’ll have to let me know if you like it! I’m so happy you liked the show of delights! I feel like it should be a weekly podcast haha I love being able to understand what brings different people joy. So fascinating!
Hope you have a beautiful weekend :)

Reply

Thank you for sharing that episode with me… it was seriously just what I needed that day! Oh I really loved her book and you’ll have to keep me updated with any biographies that you are loving. Thanks so much Rachel, you too!

Stacy Simms is THE BEST.

I have some reusable silicone bags with a cartoon of a T-rex yelling “feed me!” on them. I make sure I bring them out during all my important meetings.

Reply

I just watched her TEDx Talk and absolutely loved it! Let’s be friends with her in real life:) Hahaha I need some of those bags, I bet everyone loves seeing them!

First I have to say that it warms my heart that Brooke texts you while she is at her other dad’s place. My sone is divorced and although his daughter from his first marriage is only 4, his ex is not respectful and all and trys to turn her against him and his new wife so it is refreshing to see that people can be mature and respectful after a divorce, it is healthier for the children. I hope that they can have that kind of relationship someday.
The best part of this weekend is that my daughter who is attending BYU and her best friend who is our unofficial daughter will be home for the weekend!!
My favorite gear that gives me some piece of mind especially when I am running by myself is my mace.
My Friday description words are suspenseful, fun and romantic. Hopefully the suspenseful turns into great!!

Reply

Oh Shirley. I am so so sorry about everything going on with with your son and his situation. I really that she is able to figure this out for their daughter! You’ll have to keep me updated with how it is all going. I am VERY thankful that my ex is so supportive of me and Brooke’s relationship and we do the best for he and his wife and Brooke too. It hasn’t always been easy but we feel like we have all reached the easy stage which is really nice.

I hope you have the absolute best time with your daughter(S:) and I hope the suspenseful turns to great too! Have a beautiful day:)

I have loved so many of your favorites, especially candy and Trader Joe’s/Costco finds! I’ve been thinking about a koala clip for awhile but I’m wondering how hard it is to take your phone out while wearing it.
I wear my Garmin on just about every run. I don’t always care about pace but I like to know my distance.

Reply

Hey Liz! I’m going to need you to share your favorite candy with me at some point haha. Great question and it’s very easy for me. It might be because I have long arms or something but I can take it out and take some pictures and put it back in without having to stop! I’m with you… I NEED to know distance:) Have a great weekend!

We got home from Hawaii last night so I’m looking forward to riding my bike this weekend! I don’t have a bike on the island so I did lots of running. I love running but my body is happier with a mix of running and cycling.

My Suunto watch, phone and Optishokz Revvez sunglasses go on every run!

I’ve only got one word for today – jet-lagged.

Reply

You are back home wahoo! Enjoy that bike ride, your body will be so happy to be reunited! I still need those sunglasses. I hope you can get a little nap or something. Enjoy some sunshine for me Kathy!

Reply

i am working this weekend so nothing fun there ? i always have my phone with me on runs for music and I have a FlipBelt which I think keeps my phone pretty secure.

my friday: windy + laundry + spin class. have a good weekend!

Reply

Oh I hope your work days go really well! You just made me want to go to a spin class soon! Thanks Melissa, you too!

I can’t wait to read Jessica Simpson’s book. I have it on hold at the library but for some reason, I really want to just buy it at Costco and read it asap. I’ve heard good reviews from everyone who has read it. I’m excited to look into those reuseable bags. I’ve converted from plastic shopping bags but trying to overhaul other areas too.
Looking forward to a relaxing weekend of bbq-ing with friends and getting some house things done here and there!
Have a good weekend!

Reply

Oh you are going to love it Laura! I learned so much about her that I had no idea about. I’m switching over to reusable bags for shopping too! Proud of you and me:) Enjoy that bbq… sounds like a blast!

Have you thought about getting a Gizmo watch for Brooke? She can call or text up to 10 people that you set up from the watch and it also has some pretty great safety features. I love it for my 7 year old, even when he is just in our neighborhood playing with friends!

Reply

AHHH yes… we have been thinking about that. Do you let your 7 year old take it to school or just for after school?

Reply

Just for after school and weekends right now, but we have a really easy and safe pick up system. I’m sure I would want him to have it if he rode the bus, just in case. :)

Reply

That sounds like just what we were thinking! Thanks so much Jenny!
