Friday Favorites!

A fresh snow run with Emilee to start off my morning.

It doesn’t look like it is really snowing in this picture above but it was coming down the entire time and any car that passed us looked at us like we were crazy for being out running in the storm.   We did a hilly route that Emilee has started to do and my quads were on fire by the top!

I remembered to braid my hair for the run which prevented snarls but this picture also gives away the fact that my hair was dry again by the time I showered haha.

At church the kids have worked on coming up with social, spiritual, intellectual and physical goals.  Brooke decided that she wanted to learn sign language so she came home with a book from her library and got right to work.  She has the entire alphabet memorized now!

And then the rest of their day was spent outside in the snow.

I have a few Friday favorites to share with you today (affiliate links included)!

*A new Target dress to show the weather that I am really ready to welcome spring.  $28 and so so cute.

IMG 6512

*CHARLIE’S COOKBOOK.  I have been waiting for this forever.  Each picture has me drooling and I can’t wait to start off with her fast fish tacos, prawn and pineapple fajitas, fruit smoothie gels, avocado carbonara, pre-run pizza, burger bowl, super runner loaf and thai veggie curry soup along with every other recipe in there.  This book will bring my family a lot of happiness:)

IMG 6430

*I saw this Maps book in a London bookstore and was bummed because there was no way that it would fit in my bags to take home but luckily I found it here and shipped it.  These books are gorgeous, jam packed with information and Brooke has been loving going through them together.  The 50 States is amazing too but the Maps one is our favorite.

IMG 6519

*I loved Ali’s conversation with Neely Spence Gracey and her postpartum return to running.

*At Lush I grabbed one of their shampoo bars and damaged hot oil treatments to bring home and try out and they made my hair so incredibly soft.  I love that store so so much.

IMG 6514

*I watched the entire season of Cheer (on Netflix) on the airplane and I felt VERY involved in the characters lives by the end.  Definitely one of those ‘binge-watch’ types of series!

IMG 6077

*Sarah talked me into buying a pair of pajamas from John Lewis when we were in London and now I’m washing them every day so I can wear them every night.  I’ve always used leggings and a t-shirt or sweatshirt in the evenings and I’ve gone almost 34 years without silky/soft/buttery pajamas. I was wondering if you guys have recommendations for other amazing pajamas so that I don’t have to wash these daily that feel like butter on your skin.

Ooooh, those pajamas look nice! I am with you. I usually wear fleecey pants and some kind of random long sleeved t-shirt for pajamas. I feel like the perfect pair of pajamas softness and temperature wise has been like a unicorn for me that I can’t seem to find!

HAPPY FRIDAY!!!!!!! Okay, not a favorite thing, but something I’m excited for! I do like make-up and think I’m decent at putting it on, but I signed up for a make-up class taught by a local make-up artist. It’s in early March, and it’s 3 hours long, and I’m so excited to learn new tricks! I really want to do eyeliner well and maybe contouring?! Contouring seems complicated to me. ha ha

This weekend I’m getting my highlights touched up, and we’re going to dinner with friends. Should be a fun, laid-back weekend!

It’s Friday, and I’m at work feeling like doing nothing! ha ha ha WEEKEND, I AM READY FOR YOU!!!!!

I hope you guys have the best weekend and have fun and have some doughnuts in there, too—the weekend is for doughnuts :) :) :)

Happy Friday to YOU! Okay, that make-up class sounds so fun and like something I really need to come take with you. Have the best time! Sounds like the perfect weekend and I agree… time for some DOUGHNUTS!!

I think it’s beyond wonderful that Brooke is learning sign language. I’m deaf myself, however, I do wear hearing aids that helps and years of speech therapy and lipreading allows me to survive in the “hearing” world. But when I meet someone who knows sign (even if they only know “hi”, “deaf”, or enough letters to spell their name) it makes me smile that they’re attempting to reach out and communicate in my native language. If I have time and they’re not busy, I usually stike up a conversation and offer more signing help if they’re interested.

Y’all should be able to find a local ASL group (if none, start one!) I’m part of a group on Meetup called “Sign and Dine” here in San Antonio.

Brooke will be beyond thankful for this interest when she comes across a deaf person “in the wild”. She’ll know how to connect rather than avoid (which is what most people do).

Dawn Sign Press publishes excellent ASL resources for all ages. My daughter was very interested in ASL when she was Brooke’s age, so we found a community center class and I took it with her. My daughter joined a bowling league for Deaf children so that she could have friends to sign with. She started ASL classes at the community college when she was in 10th grade and became a certified ASL interpreter shortly after finishing high school. She then earned her BA in Elementary Education and just earned her MA in Deaf Education in December. It has been amazing to watch her interest turn into a passion and now see her love going to her classroom every day!

Your daughter is amazing and quite the go-getter. Thank you for sharing this and I can’t wait to check out Dawn Sign Press and also see if our community offers classes. I think Brooke is very interested in this because of my mom (when she is not wearing her hearing aids is very close to deaf)… she is always asking my mom if she would like close caption on during a movie and very conscious of here not being able to hear. I hope she is able to help others like your daughter does in her class room each day! Have a beautiful day!

I dated a girl in college that knew ASL (she was not deaf). She taught me a bit of it but I have forgotten, that was a loooong time ago. She ended up going to Galludet University and getting a degree there.

I remember her mentioning that a friend of hers learned it also – and they used to sign to each other behind the teachers back in high school, lol. So, watch out if Knox takes a sudden interest so they can sign to each other. ;) Or maybe you and Brooke can both learn and then drive Andrew and Knox crazy signing to each other. :)

Have a great weekend.

My daughter received her MA at Gallaudet University. If you are in the DC area, please visit the campus and the museum at Gallaudet. The museum is very well done!

Soma cool nights pyjays!

Reply

My kids also have the maps book — it is so great!! :)

Reply

Isn’t it fun to go through with them as adults too?! I hope you all have a beautiful day today!

Reply

Target!! They have a line that looks just like those and are soooo soft! I have two pairs.

Reply

I love the dreamy cotton pjs from J. Crew and always pick up a set when they go on sale.

Reply

Good to know! I’ll have to get a pair when they go on sale, THANKS AMY! Have a great weekend.

Reply

I agree! FYI – The striped ones are softer than the solid colors. It makes no sense but it’s true.

Reply

I don’t wash my PJs every night. I mean all I do is sleep in them and I shower every morning. I usually just keep wearing them until I either think about washing them, or they have some stains or something that needs to be washed out.

Reply

See my problem is I go to bed cold and put 20 blankets on me and then wake up in the middle of the night sweating like crazy. If I wasn’t such a sweater I wouldn’t either ha. Tonight I’m going to go to bed cold so I don’t wake up sweating haha and try this method. Have a beautiful day Natalie!

Although bathing isn’t top on your list, ha, taking a warm bath (with epsom salt) before bed could help this sitch and the drop in temp after the bath will drop you right in to deep sleep, too! Something to ponder.

Ali’s episode with Neely was SO good!! Such a good reminder that everyone is different, we all recover very differently, and be kind to yourself!! I’m also loving the new series Ali started with The Rambling Runner (Matt). They’ve only done 1 episode so far, but the 2 of them together is awesome.
I’m super excited for date night tonight… We’re going up to Dodgers stadium to see the new Cirque du Soleil show! We went to one of their shows on our 1st date, 29 years ago, and we try and see every new show that comes to CA.
The rest of the weekend will be shopping for new bedding, yay!
Happy Friday Janae ?

Reply

Oh I haven’t listened to them together yet, I cannot wait! Have the most amazing time tonight and I love that you guys do this together as often as possible… 29 years–> CONGRATULATIONS! Oh you’ll have to let me know what bedding you decide on! Thanks Wendy and happy Friday to you too!

Reply

I agree on the JCrew dream pajamas! FYI – The striped ones are softer than the solid colors. It makes no sense but it’s true.

Oh wow that is so awesome that Brooke is learning sign language so young. That opens up a lot of cool opportunities for her! What a champ.

Reply

Right?! I’m seriously so proud of her and it all came from her brain! She made the goal all on her own and went straight to get the book (when it probably would have taken me a week or two to follow through). Excited for her future. Have the best day Victoria and I’ll eat a Kneader’s cookie for you!

I took ASL in college and I loved it! I taught myself as a kid using Sesame Street books. One thing that helped with the alphabet was to spell words instead of going through the alphabet like people normally do. The idea is to get away from going through the whole alphabet in your head and to just know the letters immediately. As an example, I would go through the whole periodic table while sitting in my Chemistry lecture (least favorite class).

Reply

Oh that is so good to know and I’ll start with her today on spelling out words! Thank you for your help and Chemistry was my least favorite class too. I hope you have a great weekend. I might ask more questions in the future:) . Thanks Kelly!

We bought that maps book from Costco a while back, it’s awesome. We love looking at it with our toddler and talking about the places we have traveled!

Reply

Oh that is so great Kayse! I can’t believe how gorgeous each page is and it really is such a fun book to look at together. Hope your weekend with your toddler is a great one!

Reply

I loved Ali’s episode with Neely, too! I actually sent her a message after saying that Neely reminds me so much of you! You have similar sounding voices and are both so positive and fun to listen to! I think she needs to do a panel with you, Neely, and Andrea Barber for the ultimate live show! :) :) :) Hope you have a great weekend!

Reply

Well, you just made my day and I would DEFINITELY 100% YES be a part of that panel! I hope you would come so we could hang out too:) . Thank you so much Emily and YOU TOO!

Reply

I am 100% in to make this happen!

Reply

I listened to that episode and was thinking the same things the whole episode– that Neely sounded so much like Janae with both the sound of her voice and her positivity! Such a fun, uplifting episode, just like reading this blog!

Reply

Well you just made my day too Kelly! Thank you so much and keep me updated with how you are doing! Enjoy your weekend:)

Reply

I love that Brooke is learning ASL, she has so much empathy for others.
I still love maps> while I love GPS, I sort of miss mapping out my trip on the big paper maps.
I need to see if there’s a Lush store near me!
And I watched Cheer on the plane too. Loved it and was really impressed with the athleticism,

Why not just rewear those pajamas without washing them? I’ve actually never heard of washing pajamas daily. It’s not like you go outside in pajamas, so they don’t get very dirty and also don’t need to be super clean.

Reply

Those PJ’s look awesome! I love the idea of pajamas but I run so darn early that I like to wear my tights and sports bra to bed so that don’t have to fight with them in the morning.

We have a huge National Geographic map of the world on our dining room wall and we put pins in the places that we have been to. It’s so fun and I love the colors! https://www.natgeomaps.com/re-world-executive-enlarged-and-laminated

My youngest is off to winter camp today! I’m super excited for him and I’m looking forward to having some alone time with the older two.

I’m really looking forward to getting some extra rest this weekend especially because I have Monday off!

Reply

The moonlight PJs from Nordstrom are incredible and go on sale during anniversary sale. The jogger and regular style are both amazing!

Reply

Girl, stop washing your PJs every day!

Reply

Same lol

Reply

I am a sucker for pajamas and love the PJ Salvage brand, which I think you can get at Nordstrom! Happy Friday! :)

Reply

I hope you share any pj recommendations you get! I can’t sleep in long sleeve though. I get hot when I sleep.

Reply

I can’t personally testify of the amazingness of these pajamas but I’ve heard a lot of great things about late by Kate pj’s!!

Reply

LOFT has these soft jogger sweatpants that are a dream! I have found a bunch of soft pjs at Target too. This weekend we have a date night planned which happens like once every 3 months so we are pretty excited about that. Brooke is such a cool little girl! I love that she is so concerned with your mom, she seems to always be thinking of others ♥️ Have a good weekend!

Reply

Is that a new white running jacket? It’s gorgeous!

This might be a stupid question…but why would you need to wash your Pyjamas daily? You’re sleeping in them, not exercising or out and about all day…?

Reply

Those pajamas look amazing! I really love the Vera Wang collection that I buy from Kohls! SO soft and pretty affordable.

This weekend I was looking forward to getting a second car for my hubby finally after having one for a while and having dinner with family. BUT now it looks like we might get some snow tomorrow morning here in North GA- and a little snow shuts us down lol so those plans may be delayed until Sunday… I am excited for a snow day at home with my hubby and 4 month old son though! we never get snow.

Reply

Try out anything from the Stars Above line at Target – they are soooo incredibly soft! They have shorts/short sleeve PJ sets as well as long sleeve/pants sets. Very affordable too :)

Reply

Lake Pajamas! They are pricey but so soft and cozy!!

Reply

I love old navy for the pajamas, but I have also taken to ordering on Amazon. Also Winner and La Senza/La Vie EnRose.

Have a great day!

Reply

Target pajamas are incredible! So soft

Reply

Target, Stars Above jammies…ssooo soft and cozy!!

Reply

Eberjey pajamas are the best!

Reply

Cute jacket❤️

Reply

Check out LAKE pajamas and Target! Both have incredibly soft and comfy pajamas!

I love those books! I may get them for my preschoolers to read in the classroom!

Reply

Beautiful soft pjs look so appealing but I get hot in my sleep too and I find it helpful to not wear much – just a singlet and underwear and then just get warm enough with the blankets. I think not having all that fabric right around my body helps me regulate my temperature. Some soft comfy pjs would be lovely for hanging out of bed though ?

Reply

I am quite the pajama connoisseur (if I’m staying home for longer than an hour, PJs are ON!) and I LOVE Soma’s PJs, especially their Cool Nights line. I love burrowing under a ton of blankets and am a warm sleeper and I find these ones are great! They always go for them when they put them in the sale section :)

Reply

Target has some pjs that look similar to those and are so soft!! I bought some for my stay at the hospital after my second daughter was born and LOVED them. I need to get a smaller size to wear now, they were under $30 and worth every penny. Washed well and felt great!!!
