Andrew’s Happiest Day… The Newest Member of Our Family;) + Quite Excited for This!

We don’t get the chance to run together very much anymore (remember how our second date was a trail run?!) so I am very happy that we now get the chance to lift together.  Our relationship really thrives when we have things like this that we are doing together because otherwise kids, routine and work take over.

Ever lifted while wearing a full coat ha?  Our weights are in the shed and it was quite cold yesterday so I kept my coat on for the majority of the time.

Andrew convinced me to add some weight (5 lbs to each side;) to the bar yesterday ha because I am convinced I should just be using the bar for a while.  We did 3 x 10 of deadlifts, squats and bench press.  Both of us were very tired by the end!

PS see that corner of our shed… One of my brothers gives food storage for Christmas presents.  It really is such a good idea to have and we are set up with a lot of beans, wheat and rice for a very long time!

While one person is using the bar the other person is playing fetch with Beretta.  And if you forget to throw the ball she will make sure to set it close to you so that you remember.

The morning started with Emilee.  She is leaving out of town this week so I’m wondering what my odds of actually doing speed work on my own will be… My goal is to surprise myself and have a great solo session:)

IMG 7694

Within 3 minutes of getting her dressed in a t-shirt she changed out of them into an Elsa costume and then…

IMG 7691

Into Brooke’s church outfit.  We doesn’t need toys, she just needs 50 outfits to change in and out of all day long.

IMG 7739

Remember Andrew’s guest post a few weeks ago about getting a truck while I was out of town?!  He ended up getting it last week and he is so happy!  He has wanted a truck for a very long time and he found a 2015 Tacoma that he loved.  The kids love it too and it is the only car they want to drive around in now.

Andrew says the truck is now the 7th member of our family.

IMG 7744

The three of us went up to Salt Lake City for a few errands and while we were there we used a gift card for lunch that I won from Sarah Makes It.  If you want amazing recipes and the most entertaining person to watch cook (she dances during a good chunk of her recipe stories and I don’t think I’ve ever watched her stories without smiling), you have to follow her.

IMG 9657

The restaurant we won the gift cards to were for Ginger Street and it was amazing!  We had the pad thai and the yellow curry and I already want it again.  Andrew and I usually order two dishes and split them because we want to try everything.

IMG 7765

I know you are going to think I’m being dramatic but Andrew agrees with this statement too—>  Ginger Street has the best froyo we have ever tried and we have tried A LOT of different froyo places.  It was homemade and just so so creamy.  I tried all four flavors—> chocolate, strawberry, coconut and lemon.

IMG 7766

They are still trying to convince me that they should be sharing a room right now.

Andrew and I have an official date on Saturday morning at 10 am (12 EST) to watch the trials.  The big kids will be gone but I’m sure Skye will enjoy watching it with us too.   I was going to try to make it out to Atlanta to watch and it didn’t work out with schedules but we are going to have a blast watching together with some donuts I’m sure.  I’ve never been so excited to watch a sporting event in my entire life as I am for the trials this Saturday… and I think it is going to motivate me more than ever to get there in another four years!

I keep finding myself reading every article and all of the race predictions for the trials and can’t help but continue to talk to you guys about it.  I loved finding this elevation chart for the course and wish that every course showed how many feet you climb and drop in each mile.  This is sure going to be a hilly race!

I bet it will be so fun for the spectators there to see all of the athletes so many times because they will be running the same loop 3 times before heading on a 2.2 mile final loop!

Screen Shot 2020 02 24 at 5 10 30 PM

*Interesting read—> How Atlanta Organizers Will Get 3,138 Hydration Bottles Into the Right Hands at the Trials.  That is A LOT of bottles to get out there!  The athletes will get bottles 6 times along the course so that takes a lot of organizing.

*Loved this interview with Jared Ward that I listened to last week.  I see him out running around here and he is just the nicest person ever.

Here is a tour of the course too in case you want to see what it is going to look like!  PS I am so bummed that Amy Cragg won’t be running the trials this year due to illness.

——————————————————————————————————————————————–

Have you ever done a course with multiple loops/laps before? Was it hard to go out again for the 2nd or 3rd loop?

I picture it being hard to go past the finish line again when you are feeling tired.  For the 50 miler I did last March they also had a 100 miler going on at the same time which was 2 loops of the same course that I did.  I remember finishing and wondering how in the world people were going out for another loop!

Do you ever share dishes?  Would you rather share with others to try different things or stick to your own meal?

-The more different meals that I get to try in one sitting the happier I am.

Those of you with dogs… do your dogs love fetch?  Another game?

-Beretta would play fetch for a week straight without stopping if we let her!

What are you having for lunch today?

I’m so glad you have such a fun day planned to watch the trials on TV! I actually like walking televised events, because I really appreciate all the commentary. I don’t have a TV right now so am trying to find a way to watch!

My family are big meal sharers . . . it’s just more fun that way, and how else do you get to try everything??

Reply

That is so true… the commentary makes it even more enjoyable! So so excited. I’m with you, we all need to try everything! Happy Tuesday Kristin!

My mother had the same problem with me constantly changing clothes as a child. (I was never happy in whatever Normal clothes she put me in!). The best thing she gave me was a “costume box” – a large plastic bin with princess tiaras, scarfs, tutu, skirts, etc for me to dress up in and dance in to my heart’s content! Maybe a costume box would be a good present for Skye?

Reply

Time to get that costume box together because Skye would love that SO SO much! Thanks for sharing Melly and I hope your Tuesday has been wonderful so far!

I love sharing dishes because then I can try different things!

My friends husband is in the trials on Sat!!! Go Joe!

Not sure what I am eating today but it is volunteer day so whooo

Reply

GO JOE!! That must be so exciting for you all! Enjoy your volunteer day and hopefully you go out soon with other people that want to share dishes too:) . Thanks Allie!

A friend of a friend did the 7 in 7 a few weeks ago. I was just quickly going through her FB posts the other day and it looks like most if not all of the races are loops – Not only can I not imagine doing a marathon, much less 7 in 7 days, but I’ve done a couple of loop races and I am not a fan!

Reply

I SERIOUSLY cannot even imagine running back to back to back marathons like that. She is amazing! I’m with you.. not sure if I would be into the loop races either. Hope your Tuesday is going well so far:)

Congrats to Andrew on his new ‘baby’ — quick question: Do you have all three kids sit in the back, or will you mostly use your car when you travel as a family of five? Just wondering how other three kid fams deal with logistics of getting around :)

Reply

Haha new baby.. it really is:) . Yes, all three kids fit great back there! It’s kind of fun because they feel a lot closer to us in the truck because with my car we feel more spread out (I have a highlander so Brooke and Knox usually like sitting in the back of that). So with travel we will mostly use my car but going around town/to school etc the kids want the truck! Hope your day is going well friend!

Reply

I love your sunglasses on the new truck photo! What type are they? Thank you and have a great day!

Thank you so much! Andrew just gave me these ones for my bday:) . Hope your Tuesday is going well Elizabeth!

I am recording the trials to watch on Monday while baby naps on me… figured it would be good snuggle time! Enjoy your date with Andrew.
We like to share meals too! It is the best way to go!!!
Two summers ago while Training for a marathon I ran a 20k race that was 4 loops around a lake in the town I ran cross country in high school. Since it was a small race it was nice to be a loop because I saw people more – they started the 20k first then added in a 10k and finally a 5k so we all ended close to the same time, which was actually really fun! I think maybe 15 people were running the 20k. After the race I finished it off by running around town to get 18 miles, a race volunteer told me I was crazy, but you gotta do what you gotta do.
Going to my 6 week postpartum check up this week and hoping to be cleared to start running again… not sure entirely how I’ll fit it in but I will find a way. Any logistical tips for a new mom trying to keep running in my life?

Reply

Snuggling your new baby + watching the trials = heaven:) . Okay, that setup for the loop race sounds really fun and that’s cool that more and more people added in. I love that so much! Oh I am so excited for you to get back into running! I think my biggest tips are to really wait until you feel 100% ready and listen to your body so closely (if I get to have another baby then I am planning on taking more time off after than I did with the girls just because I’m learning more and more what our bodies go through in delivery). Start so so small. Take as many walking breaks as you need. Stay close to home. Remember you are in a brand new chapter of life so stay in the moment and forget the past/comparison game. Keep me updated with it all, I’m cheering for you big time!

Reply

I normally work on Saturdays but I took this Saturday off to watch the race (I didn’t tell them why I needed the day off, ha ha, or they would have thought I was crazy.) I CAN’T WAIT!!! Unfortunately my kids can’t understand why anyone would want to watch people just run for 2 and 1/2 hours, but they’re old enough to do their own thing and I’ve informed them I am not to be interrupted! I’m cheering for all the runners but especially Jared- I’ve listened to that podcast and all others he’s been on- he’s absolutely the best.

Reply

I fully support this decision to take the day off so that you can watch! Haha most people can’t understand why we are all so excited to watch this:) Yep, I agree. Jared is just the best of the best. Hope your Tuesday is off to a great start Jenny!

I once ran a marathon that was 26x1mile. It wasn’t my first choice but I had a weeklong work trip come up so I needed one earlier in the spring than my first choice. It actually wasn’t that bad. It made hydration easy because you passed the table every mile and was great for spectators. Biggest problem was that each lap seemed to be a tiny bit long (and I ran the tangents) so I ended up with 26.8 miles.

Reply

26 x 1 mile… okay, that means you are just so mentally strong! 26.8 miles so technically it was an ultra;) That makes sense that it was awesome for hydration/bathroom breaks/spectators though! I would enjoy watching that. Enjoy your Tuesday Jess!

Hey Andrew, congrats on the truck! I still drive my 2005 Silverado. I installed a new stereo and speakers in it a few years ago and still love driving it (well, except for parking it in crowded lots sometimes, lol).

No loop running for me as of yet. We had a Samoyed for 14 1/2 years and played a lot of ball and tug of war with her, but no real game of fetch. We’d bounce a ball inside off the entry floor off the wall and she’d catch it in the air and then she’d bring it back though.

Catching up on life – I flew back to see my dad last week in Kansas. His health is failing and we are not sure how much longer he has. And right after that I managed to strain my hamstring running again. I’ll have to scale back the training a bit and see how it goes. Life overall is good though, just a few road-bumps to get through. Hope you guys have a great day!

Reply

John, I am so incredibly sorry about your father and praying that you both feel peace and comfort during this time. I hope that your hamstring gets better so soon so that you get that as you go through some of these bumps! 14.5 years with your Samoyed (they are such beautiful dogs).. so many amazing memories I’m sure. Andrew will be happy to hear about your love for your truck too:) Hope your day is going great so far and keep me updated on that hamstring!

Reply

Thanks Janae.

And yes, Samoyeds are gorgeous dogs. They attract SOOO much attention. I’ll never forget one little boy’s reaction – “That is the fluffiest dog I’ve ever seen!”. Lol…

I’m going on a blog trip to Columbus Ohio later this week and I’m kind of really stressed out that I don’t know if I’m going to get to watch the entire trials before heading to the airport… which means I’m going to have to fully stay off all forms of social media until I watch it all… the pressure haha! The field is SO STACKED though! I’m on pins and needles!

Have the best time at your blogging trip! Hahah that is what Emilee is doing too.. she won’t get to watch it when it is on so she isn’t going near her phone until she can watch it. ENJOY your trip away!

I want to come back to UT and do a fro yo tour with you to see if that really is the best stuff.

Marking my calendar when you decide for this tour. Can’t wait!

That course looks BRUTAL! But yay that spectators will get all the views of such amazing athletes in one place!
I’ve done the same looped course race 3 times and I don’t think I’ll ever do it again! Ha! The 30k was 2 loops and the 50k was 3 loops; the course is about 98% runnable so it was both mentally and physically exhausting; especially since each loop starts at the finish. Watching people get to stop, eat, get warm/dry and sit down was a little depressing but the reward of finishing was better than anything!
My husband and I don’t share dishes much; we like food too much to share! Ha! He used to finish what I couldn’t so I shared by default but then I started running longer distances and there’s no leftovers! Ha!
No dog, but my 5 year old plays fetch! Lol!
Lunch today is grilled cheese and a salad. Unless I get talked into tacos – it is Tuesday after all :)
Have a great day!

Reply

HOW DID YOU KEEP GOING past everyone else relaxing and eating at the finish… you are mentally and physically so strong! Definitely worth continuing for that finish though. I’m glad that you and your husband have figured out what works best for you guys and leftovers rarely happen with us too:) . Hahaha Brooke used to want to play fetch a lot too at that age… thanks for bringing back good memories for me. I mean if you don’t have Tacos for lunch then you should for dinner. Thanks Jenny, you too!

Reply

I like sharing dishes in theory, but I always end up liking one thing more and wishing I’d just gotten that so I could eat it all ?

Reply

Hahaha true but then what about those times you get to eat somebody else’s dish that you weren’t ordering yourself and it’s just magical;) . So many hard decisions. Hope you are having a great Tuesday so far Christine!

I’m curious about what your predictions are for the trials!! I really think Sara Hall is going to have an amazing race. I’m pulling for Jordan Hasay because she lives and trains a few hours away from me and I’ve been lucky enough to meet her, but she’s definitely injury prone. I think for the men, Jared Ward is going to take this one.

I love sharing dishes, but since I have to eat gluten-free, it can make it a little tricky. Sometimes, I can talk the hubs into ordering something that is gluten-free as well so we can share.

My pups love to fetch. When I’m rolling out in the living room, the little one will drop his toys on me and if I don’t throw them for him, he will start to nibble on my clothes and skin.

Today’s lunch is smoked chicken & roasted veggies.

Reply

Oh that is so cool that you have met Jordan Hasay! YES for Jared Ward winning:) I also hope for Scott Fauble and Shadrack Biwott! For the women I am cheering for Des, Sara Hall and Stephanie Bruce! Hahaha well at least with your foam rolling you are getting two things done at once:) . Enjoy that lunch… sounds delicious!

The only Marathon I have ever DNfed was the Delaware Marathon where you run the same loop four times in a row. I dropped out of third, just didn’t feel up to doing the same thing again.

I’ve been to the Marathon Trials in 2004 (St Louis) and 2012 (Houston). In 2004 I helped with the fluids for the Elite women and in 2012 I just obsessively cheered for Kara. Loops are the BEST for spectators!

I prefer not to share dishes. Many times when we have (Once, but it has brandished me forever as not liking to share) my husband has ended up with
such a delicious dish that I was stuck with the one that I really didn’t even want in the first place!
He comes by it honestly, though. His family likes to order a couple of desserts and then pass them around. So whenever I order a dessert and do NOT pass it around, I am judged. Get your own dessert people!!! And stop spreading germs :)

Our dog loves to grab something we throw and then play with it.

Unsure about lunch – probably avocado toast!

Reply

FOUR LOOPS… that is a lot! Okay, that is so cool that you have been to the marathon trails three times and that you helped with fluids. Wow! Will you be there this year? Oh I am RIGHT THERE with you on having my own dessert… I rarely share it unless it’s to give a bite to Skye. And now I want some avocado toast. Hope you are having a beautiful day so far Tonya!

Reply

Hi Janae! I’m so excited for the trials too!! Who are you rooting for?
Have a great day!!

Reply

My mind changes a lot but I’m currently really wanting Des, Sara Hall and Stephanie Bruce for the women and for the men I want Jared Ward, Scott Fauble and Shadrack Biwott! Who are you cheering for?

Reply

Yes! I love Steph Bruce and following her on her YouTube channel before Chicago! I don’t know that much about the men’s side.. time to look them up on Lindsey’s podcast!

Reply

My boxer who passed away in May was not a fetch guy!! He’d run for the ball but wouldn’t come back and then he’d just get bored. He was pretty lazy overall though so it’s not surprising. I miss him! My moms dog is obsessed like Beretta though. She never stops!

Reply

Oh Andrea, I am so so sorry that your boxer passed away! Haha he needed games that involved more thought and challenge. I hope your day is a beautiful one and thanks for sharing. Beretta and your mom’s dog would be bffs.

That’s so fun that you and Andrew have planned a “date” to watch the trials! They come on at noon here and I’m planning to get home as quickly as I can (from my massage!) to watch them. Can’t wait! I’m hoping it will give me some motivation to sign up for a race or two. ;)

I’ve been having pretty much the same lunch for the past few months and it’s getting pretty boring…Josephs Lavash turkey and spinach wrap with cottage cheese. I make my lunch the night before (and my kids’ lunches, too, if they want to pack) because it makes the morning go SO much better! But, I get in a rut and just find it’s easier to always make the same thing. Would love some ideas to change it up!

Reply

Saturday sounds perfect for you! Seriously, it would be interesting to get any stats for the amount of race sign-ups that occur after big inspiring races like the trials! They make us want to shoot for the stars ourselves:) . Well, your lunch sounds delicious and BRILLIANT to make it when you make your kid’s lunches. I’m totally going to try that. Thanks Kristen and I hope you are having the most beautiful day!

Reply

I used to be a competitive racewalker. You have to follow rules and the races have judges to make sure your form doesn’t break the rules. So a lot of times they are loops to limit the amount of judges needed. That said, the 40 k on the 2k loop was AWFUL!!!!

Reply

Oh that makes complete sense why they would do loop course but 20 times around for a race… you are hardcore Carrie! I hope you are having a beautiful day!

Reply

Maybe Skye will be a future fashion instagrammer ;)
I wish all meals were treated like a small plate experience because I want to try a little of what every body is having…….ALWAYS.

Reply

Hahaha Andrew and I were talking about that yesterday… and maybe she can help us in the future with fashion:) I totally agree with you and maybe we should open a really cool small plate restaurant to satisfy our need for this! Hope you are having a beautiful morning!

Funny we just got rid of our truck and got a Toyota 4Runner! The truck won’t fit in the garage so that was behind our decision lol. Also I only drove it once in 5 years and cried because I was so scared (it was a huge truck but I’m a baby and bad driver)

We have SO MUCH going on Saturday so I’m going to record the trials and watch Sunday. I’m going to completely avoid my phone to avoid seeing results and I feel like I should send texts to friends not to talk about it just in case is that extra of me?

Reply

Andrew is jealous of your 4runner too:) HE LOVES those cars. You are not alone, I told Andrew that the Tacoma was the biggest truck I could safely drive. YES send out the texts now and don’t look at my social media haha! Hope you are having a great day!

Reply

I rented a Forerunner on my recent trip to Kansas. Awesome car but so expensive. When I bought my 2005 Silverado one requirement was that it have power folding side mirrors so I could pull it into the garage, so handy!

Reply

That’s actually the truck we traded in! The issue was the length not the mirrors haha. It was like the full size cab and long bed (idk the technical terms).

Reply

Yup, understood. I have the crew cab standard length (so shorter bed). The longer bed with the crew cab would not fit in my garage either.

I can imagine not being used to driving a truck being scary – especially one that long. I’m the opposite – when I drive our CR-V it feels like I’m driving a bumper car at an amusement park. I do like parking it though!

I really, really liked driving that new Forerunner though. Just the right size.

Reply

I ran a small 30K trail race that was two loops of a 15K course. There was a 15K option too and most runners were doing the shorter race. The trail wasn’t well-marked, and I got lost in the woods on the second loop. I ended up finding two guys who were also lost, and together we finally found our way to the finish. It took us so long that the race organizers had sent people searching for us on ATVs! Yikes. Let’s just say I have not repeated that race. I don’t think it still exists – I just tried to find a website for it.
I had really hoped to get to the trials too, but I’ll be watching along with you on TV!
Have a great day!

Reply

YOU GOT LOST… oh that must have been crazy! So glad you found those men to work together with! Definitely wouldn’t want to do that race again either. Thanks Catherine, you too!

Reply

The only times I have done a loop race was when I ran the 5k for breast cancer! I do not think I could do a long race with the same course!
My hubs and I always share a meal. A lot of times we will order one app and one meal and share all that so we can each try something different but we hate having leftovers so 2 full meals is too much for us! When we are on vacation we love going to a restaurant for an appetizer like around 4-430 then off to a nice dinner at 7ish and again we get to try the restaurants we want and different foods!
I had a salad today for lunch and I literally put everything in my salads, I do not like boring salads!!
2 1/2 weeks away from the NYC 1/2!!!!! WOOOHOOO!

Reply

Congratulations on your truck, Andrew!
