Friday Favorites!

When it is cold and raining/snowing—> Try a hat with an ear band over the top combo.  You get to block the snow/rain from your eyes and you get to keep your ears warm all at the same time! I learned this trick during ultra training when I would have a 25 miler to get done in a blizzard.

Emilee and I met up for 10 miles @7:55 average.  I wore the new Adrenaline GTS 20 and goodness they felt smooth.

I cannot wait to see what Emilee does at Boston in a few months.  Her easy runs feel like my tempo runs right now!

Had a meeting with Stately Type (shirts coming soon!) and they brought Zupas to my house while Skye napped!  I forget how much I love this place… their chicken pesto sandwich is heaven.

And then the rest of the day was full of kid stuff galore.

Time for a few of my favorite things this week!

*I don’t know how we lived before these without even knowing how much we needed them ha.  These are pricey (they usually have a discount code you can use and that’s what I used) but SO worth it for us.  They are from Beddy’s and I just think they are the coolest.  The kid’s entire bedding is just one piece now.   The sheet is sewn in and it all just fits around the mattress with an elastic.  The inside is minky lined and to make their bed, all they have to do is zip it up.  I got them for Knox’s bunk bed too and it makes it SO easy to put his bed together compared to normal sheets/bedding on bunk beds.

You know you are aging when your life is MADE by a product that makes washing kid’s bedding/making beds easier.

*This is our current favorite thing from Costco.  Every member of my family loves it, I just have to heat it up and this package gave us four dinners worth of meat for our family.  So far I’ve put it on top of baked potatoes, in tacos, in quesadillas and on a salad… all amazing.

IMG 5747

*Another Madewell Necklace that I’m in love with lately!  All three necklaces come in the set and because I love wearing super simple outfits, it really adds to them!

*My favorite podcast episode from the week.  Lauren Fleshman is definitely one of my heroes.

*I have been buying more and more of my every-day clothes off of Amazon (are they slowly taking over the world?) and I LOVE love love this cardigan.  It feels like you are wrapped up in a warm blanket which is necessary for this time of year.   It’s a great price, they have lots of colors and it is so soft.

*I’m thankful for the internet helping me to relate to people all over the world…. This literally happened to us the other night:

*Cottage cheese and fruit.  Any fruit.  It’s all delicious but the cc and grape combo is my #1.

*Samantha shared this with me about the Barkley Marathon and it is SO so good!  Perfect for a treadmill run.

I love hearing about the amazing things you are doing!  If you want to be featured then send in your stories to either [email protected] or [email protected]

Heather!!!  “I recently ran my first back-to-back races (5k & 10k) at Universal Studios for the Jurassic Challenge Run. It was so fun! 18 months ago I was training for a half marathon and tore a muscle in my hip, suffered a miscarriage and was living in a very strained marriage. Running is usually my sanctuary and to not have it for that time period was tough both emotionally and physically. I spent a year rehabbing both my hip and my marriage, and I’m so grateful to say that my husband and stepson were with me when I crossed the finish line of both races.

I’m not fast any more, but I am always overwhelmed with gratitude when I can run with no pain. I also focus on things I’m grateful for when I run – if I think of junk, it’s a junky run. So my motto is ‘God – please hold my troubles I’ll be back for them in 3 miles’. :) ”

Alex wrote this about Megan!  “Megan completed the St. Jude Memphis Marathon in December, only her second marathon ever. She ran a 3:36, which was a ~25 min PR for her. Incorporating Janae’s advice, Megan really worked on polarizing her runs and being intentional about taking the easy days super easy and the hard days fast. She trained for over 6 months for this race, fitting in speed workouts and long runs in between getting her PhD in Chemistry (wow). So she is not only super smart but also super fast! I cannot think of a more considerate, thoughtful, and deserving person to achieve such amazing feats. Megan, I am so incredibly proud of you and so happy that all your hard work paid off for this race. I know a BQ is coming soon. Remember, you can do hard things.”

Happy Friday! Do you happen to know what size you ordered for the cardigan? Looks great!

Reply

Yes! I got a size small! I hope you love it too. Enjoy your weekend Katie!

People look at me crazy when I order a side of guacamole with french fries.

Reply

Now I have to try this and people will look at me like I’m crazy. Sounds so good. Happy weekend Kaleena!

Have been a follower for years now. Absolutely love your blog! However, I have a question regarding your shoe choices. I’m a store manager at a running store and notice that you promote both stability and neutral category shoes. I assume you know they are completely different… but I worry about readers. Would love to hear back. ?

That sounds so good! I am definitely going to try that!

Ok, why didn’t they have bedding like that when my kids were young and had bunk beds/loft beds?? Those are really cool!
I don’t have any exciting food combos right now, so I will be following along to see what I can copy too. The guacamole and french fries sounds amazing!
I have recently discovered Amazon for clothing and home accessories…. Great stuff! By the way, I have been meaning to ask… What are the running leggings you like from Amazon?
Finally a super low key weekend for us! A long run tomorrow, then just some good quiet, not much happening time. Yay!
Have a great Friday Janae ?

Hey you! Seriously… this bedding just makes it so much easier! How have we all lived without guacamole and fries? Yes… here is the link: https://amzn.to/2GjYzIf
Enjoy the relaxing weekend and have the best long run! Thanks Wendy!

Those carnitas are the BEST. I love to have them for breakfast with avocado and a runny egg, plus lots of hot sauce. SO good.

I am totally going to try that combo, drooling! Have a great day Alida and thanks for sharing!

Planning to run Boston but very likely not racing it. I’m dealing with some awful peroneal tendonitis that flared up again at the start of the year (actually in October and I just never let it heal). I’m going to physical therapy/in full rehab. I’m supposed to be running 16 miles this weekend but the max I can do right now is 4-5 easy :/
Hopefully can start to work back into training in another 2-3 weeks but we’ll see what happens! What would you do?!?

Favorite food combo – tortilla, banana, trader joe’s crunchy, salted almond butter

Reply

Tendonitis… Arthi, I am SO so sorry. Please keep me updated with how you are doing. I would do exactly what you are doing and take it a week at a time! I have trained for a marathon (without time goals) in a very short amount of time so you definitely still have a lot of hope! Let me know what your PT says too. I’m praying you have such a great time at Boston! Okay, now I need that snack right this second. That sounds amazing!

I grew up eating cottage cheese mixed with apple sauce. I had no idea that wasn’t normal for a long time but I love it. I also love cottage cheese with canned pears!
I am going to get that meat and I love the necklaces! AND that kids bedding! I swear I saw it on shark tank once. It’s brilliant!

Reply

That’s one of my favorite combos too! I also love jello with pudding. I like to eat each of these combos together but not mixed if that makes sense. Basically a spoon divided in half with each half having its own space! SO good!

I have never tried jello with pudding but now I need to! Sounds amazing. Have the best weekend Bridgette!

I have been putting a handful of trail mix on my cereal. (Turning Life into Muslix?)
Weekend plans: a friends surprise birthday party tomorrow.

Reply

WHAT?! Okay, I have to try that this weekend. That sounds amazing! Have the best time at the bday party and with your people this weekend.

Mmm! Carnitas! I’ve been loving sheet pan dinners since you posted about them a while back. My “secret” ingredient is to shake a packet of Good Seasons Italian dressing mix on the meat.
Oh! Do your kids like Goldfish crackers? I just found a Mickey and Minnie version in Target https://www.target.com/p/goldfish-mickey-38-minnie-6-6oz/-/A-78524497 and I remembered how much Skye likes Minnie (at least before Elsa) :)

Reply

I MUST GET THOSE FOR HER NOW! She still loves Minnie and loves goldfish so it’s perfect! I am totally going to try that mix on ours too. Thanks for sharing your tips Corey, can’t wait. Have a beautiful weekend!

The Elsa dress!! That is the biggest fight with our two year old right now. Literally she FREAKS out if we don’t let her wear it. It’s a little ridiculous actually. Everytime we are out in public and I see little girls wearing the dang dress my heart goes out to the poor parents :) It’s like, why do we spend money on all the cute clothes when she won’t wear them?!

Reply

YOU ARE NOT ALONE! I just want to give you a hug ha. And yep, definitely have stopped buying clothes for Skye! Hope you have a great weekend with Elsa;)

Related to your sandwich! I love the giant jar of pesto from Costco – lately I’ve been tossing with my potatoes in it after I roast them. They’re delicious with grilled chicken or steak and veggies!
No exciting weekend plans (but now going to Costco to buy carnitas!!). Just doing some moving research and applying for as many jobs as possible! And finishing the Aaron Hernandez documentary on Netflix! Wow, I just started it last night and got totally sucked in.
Have an amazing weekend!

Reply

Thank you so much for reminding me about that pesto… it is SO good! I need to buy more and let me know what you think of the carnitas! Have a great day and I have to check out that documentary, thank you Rachel!

I’m in a bit of an eating rut right now so I want to see what everyone else is eating!!

I decided Wednesday night to run a 1/2 marathon tomorrow and then I am chaperoning my school’s formal because my oldest is attending.

Last documentary that I watched was F*** Cats and it was fascinating. Definitely not kid appropriate by any means but it wasn’t gruesome, just lots of cursing and heavy content. Fascinating though.

Reply

AHHH GOOD LUCK TOMORROW! I hope you have a blast at the race and so cool you will be chaperoning. So cool you get to do that with your oldest. I hope some of these comments can help your rut. Enjoy your weekend Marissa!

Ok, seriously, this hat/headband combo is amazing ! Thanks for sharing, it’s genius ! And the bedding is amazing too. Some people (not me) have the best ideas ! I am definitely watching that video you shared tomorrow on the treadmill. I just shoveled snow and slush for over an hour, that’s my workout for today. This is not running related, but last documentary type show I watched was What the Health. All about our foods, the good and the bad, was pretty good. This is not healthy, but my newest food obsession is chips and cheese quesso dip. I can’t wait until it’s gone, I am not buying more just so I don’t eat it all. So good. I just came off of a blueberry and granola kick. Might have to go back to that. ha

Reply

I hope you love the combo too… keeps my head warm on rainy/snow runs. Yes, shoveling is DEFINITELY a workout ha. I’m always very sweaty by the end. I need to check out that documentary and I also need to get some of that dip for Andrew, he loves it too. Always a good time to go back to that kick haha. Enjoy your weekend, Michele!

We’ve been watching Rotten on Netflix, and just the first episode about Avocados and all the silent controversy about them has been so eye opening!

I didn’t even know there was controversy around avocados, I’ll have to check this out. Thanks Paige!

Reply

Woah, blast from the past with those grapes and cottage cheese!! I haven’t seen you post about that in a long time! I need some cottage cheese in my life now :-) Happy Friday!!

Reply

HAHAH YES… remember when I ate it daily?! I hope you have some soon and happy Friday to you! Thanks Torrie.

Put the headband UNDER the hat! That way it will stay dry and warm!

Reply

I have a similar method for headgear when it’s rainy AND cold – I wear a very thin skull cap/beanie hat under my baseball cap. Keeps my ears warm and keeps the rain off my face. The one I use would actually work for women as well since it has one of those pony tail openings in the back. I think it’s this one: https://poshmark.com/listing/NIKE-drifit-beanie-59021a37522b45287d0229fd

Congrats to Heather and Megan – absolutely fabulous job!

Roasted brussel sprouts and chorizo!

Started my marathon training plan for MARATHON 3
and the first speed workout was killer but got to crush goals!

Due to a current obsession with Reply 1988, I am eating a lot of Korean food recently. See: https://mykoreankitchen.com/kimchi-udon-noodle-stir-fry/

I’ve also fallen in love with hummus wraps- significant amount of hummus, red pepper, cuc, carrot, maybe brocoli, wrapped up. Perfect instant lunch.

Also- Yes to Boston this year. Hopefully the weather is my friend!

I remain impressed that the winter in your area is allowing for this much outside running. Great work!

The hat with the headband is an awesome tip. I wear mine that way often! I ran in the chilly rain (39) yesterday like that. I also bought a pair of those CRZ Yoga leggings you have mentioned. The fit is amazing. However, they were a bit too light for running in that rainy weather for me! I had red thighs for about an hour until I warmed back up :) But otherwise, they are really nice. I’ll try them again in different conditions. Thanks for the tips!
