Friday Favorites + A Big Thank You

When Andrew isn’t at work, I am REALLY enjoying going out for a run a bit later in the day so I can get some sunshine.  A little bit of sun makes the biggest difference in my mood during the winter.

8 miles @ 8:15 average with Emilee!  Some on snow, most on the roads.

Just a picture of the crew.

For lunch we went out to get smoothies (PB MOO’D for all of us) but Skye was too busy to smile.

And then we went next door to my favorite place.  I LOVE punch cards and was pretty dang excited for a free loaf yesterday.

So was Skye.

I really really really owe you guys.  I dropped Skye’s mattress to the ground yesterday and she had the most wonderful nap.  Thank you for helping me with that and I also ordered a doorbell chime if she does get out of her room!

Let the naps continue (thanks to you guys).  PS Skye is a little mad at you though;)

I have a few Friday Favorites (with affiliate links included) to share today!

*Brooke’s necklace—> She has wanted an initial necklace for a long time so I got her this one.  It’s really cute and cheap just in case she loses it:). It came in a nice little box with a sweet quote underneath the necklace and it is perfect for a gift!

IMG 4882

*I keep telling myself that If I wear shorts often now, then summer running will come sooner:). I found another Amazon workout piece HERE that feels JUST LIKE other pairs of shorts that I have had that I have spent a lot more money on.  They have a thick waistband, so many cute colors, a big pocket in the back, they are lightweight and flexible.  I’ve worn them for almost every treadmill run lately and they have been fabulously comfortable.   They fit true to size and if anything they fit the tiniest bit big.

IMG 5158

*The best Valentines Candy on the planet.  I don’t want chocolates, I just want these.  You can get them at Target!

IMG 5386

*A bunch of IG people were talking about these QUAY glasses so I tried them out myself and love them.  They are a lot bigger than other pairs of glasses that I own but I’m a big fan and will be wearing them all year long.  PS Andrew teases me for wearing sunglasses when it’s pretty much dark outside or really cloudy.  My eyeballs are SO sensitive.

IMG 5384

*Costco bacon—>  This is a family favorite.  We all love bacon but I absolutely hate making bacon.  I just put these in the microwave for a few seconds and boom… add them onto our egg sandwiches without the mess of cooking bacon.

IMG 5106

*The Cafe Rio drive-thru.  This is a genuine look of happiness below as we are waiting for our Cafe Rio to be handed to us.  We then parked and ate one of our favorite meals all while our kids were buckled in behind us haha.

IMG 4964

*Such a great episode with my friend (she runs for Runner’s Corner too) and her journey to the Olympic Trials!  At CIM she was 28 SECONDS off of making it but she is going for it again at the Houston Marathon in a few days.  She works so so so hard and has an amazing story, I’m cheering so loud for her big time.

Don’t forget, I LOVE hearing and sharing the amazing things you are doing so if you want to share an accomplishment then send it to [email protected] and if you have a finish line story then send it to [email protected]

Here is Lindsley’s amazing finish line story!

“I ran my first half marathon!!!! Three years ago I fell in love with running and decided to train for a half marathon. Everything was going really well until a few weeks before the race when I ended up with a femoral stress fracture and a labral tear. I used crutches for six weeks, went to lots of physical therapy, and wasn’t able to run for over six months. It was a difficult time physically and emotionally, as I was also about to start my last semester of nursing school. I’ve spent the last three years since then building back my strength, and very slowly and safely increasing my running mileage, with the hope that someday I would be able to train for a half marathon again. Well, it finally happened!!! Despite running only a handful of times over the last month (we have been so busy with moving into a house that we’ve also been renovating), I made it to the starting line and the finish line injury free! My husband ran about half of the race with me and it was his first half marathon as well!! So incredibly happy to have achieved this goal even if it was three years later than I originally had hoped for!

Yes! My eyes are super sensitive. Even if it is cloudy, I wear sunglasses. But also I don’t like random debris flying in my eyes so even when it is dark/night I wear clear lensed (non prescription) oakleys when I’m outside.

Bacon is the best food on the planet in my opinion :)

Happy Friday!

Hey you! Oh I need to get some of those for when it’s completely dark outside and I’m out. That is a great idea, I don’t like that feeling either. I hope you have some bacon soon. Thanks and enjoy your weekend.

My dark brown eyes are not sensitive, but my daughter’s light blue eyes are super sensitive. Her eye Dr. told her that people with light colored eyes need to be more careful because their eyes are more sensitive to the sun. I love bacon but don’t love cooking it. I usually can talk my hubby into cooking it though:) No race for me this weekend. I am in Nebraska and we are getting snow/ice/wind combo so I am just hoping for a tiny break in the weather to run outside – I don’t love the treadmill.

That really is so interesting… our bodies are amazing! Stay warm this weekend, that sounds pretty awful out there! Enjoy your weekend Jo!

I’m from Alberta Canada and would love to know what brand your Amazon shorts are? When I click on your link it brings up the Amazon site but not the item:(
Thank you! You always have the best workout gear suggestions!

I never used to wear sunglasses. When I started doing more outdoor activities that had a lot of glare, like boating and skiing, I got better about it. And I sometimes still forget when I go out to run–in my last half, I forgot them because it was dark on the way to the start ~oops~
Bacon is so very yummy :)
I tend to get race envy at this time of year, when I’d love to run a race in a warmer climate, like Houston or Mesa. Maybe someday I’ll do a destination race to boost my winter blahs ~haha~
Happy FriYAY!

OH I’ve done that with a race too and was so annoyed each mile that I didn’t have my glasses. How about next winter we meet at a destination race? Thanks Corey and you too!

I hate cooking bacon too, but my kids LOVE it. Have you ever baked it? I preheat the oven to 425 and then lay about half a regular sized package of bacon in a single layer. I shake on a little black pepper and then bake for about 10 minutes. Keep an eye on it right around the 10 minutes so that you get the perfect crispness. I immediately take the strips off and put on a paper towel covered plate. If you want to do more you can either do 2 cookie sheets, just make sure to swap which one is on top after about 10 minutes. Or just do a second batch, but since the bacon grease is hot, it cooks a few minutes faster. Clean up is super easy, I just let the cookie sheet cool and the grease hardens on the foil!

Have a great weekend!

I have never baked it but you are inspiring me… I’ll try it this weekend. Thanks so much Sara and I hope your weekend is a wonderful one!

Yes to sensitive eyes! I always need sunglasses too.

What is the length of those shorts? It doesn’t say online.

Reply

Hey Mary! So I just measured them ha… the inseam is 3 inches and from the top of the waistband to the bottom they are 10 inches. I hope that helps. Enjoy your day!

Super sensitive eyes here too! I am always wearing my sunglasses when it’s cloudy/dusk. Not only are my eyes light sensitive, they are really affected by the wind too, especially on a cool/cold day. When I run & it’s windy I always have a few giant tears that run down my face….frustrating. I asked for & received 2 pairs of goodr sunglasses for Christmas – I love them!! Thanks for the recommendation.

Reply

That is so interesting bout the wind too! I would be way frustrated too. I am so glad you love the goodr sunglasses (now to find mine… the kids love to ‘borrow’ them). Have a beautiful weekend Amanda!

A huge congrats to Lindsley and her husband! That is a very cool story and I am genuinely happy for both of you!

I hope you have the best weekend John!

Where did you get your running vest? I love it!

Reply

My eyes are sensitive to light too – especially when I’m driving and the sun reflects off of things. I always make sure that I have a pair of sunglasses on too.

Reply

Oh driving is when my eyes are most sensitive too! I’m right there with you… always have to have glasses in the car. I hope you have a beautiful day Fiona!

You can also cook bacon in the oven. I place turkey bacon in a cold over, then cook at 375 for 18 mins or so. No grease splatters!

Reply

I’m totally going to try that. Thanks Sherry and I LOVE turkey bacon!

Way to go, Lindsley, and thank you Janae for your humility in recognizing the accomplishments of others, even as you, too, do great things. Happy Friday!

Happy Friday, Janae!

My favorite this week isn’t a thing, it’s a nephew! Les’ 18 year old nephew, Reece, is here staying with us and he is just the coolest person. He’s smart and funny but also completely content to do his own thing. He’s on the production crew for a TV show being filmed about 2 miles from our house so he’s been working 12 hours days. He’s off today and he and Les have gone skiing – a first for Reece. The funniest thing happened the other night – I was getting dinner ready and waiting for Les to get off a call with his boss. I heard whistling and said, “Oh good, you’re done.” It wasn’t Les, it was Reece! They have the exact same whistle!

My baby blue eyes need protection year round. I always wear sunglasses, the glare from clouds is often worse than direct sunlight.

Bacon— definitely delicious and I need to try that precooked from Costco!

My eyes are so sensitive but I make do with sporty caps ;) I’ve just got myself a fancy pair of RayBans for going out but am finding myself not reaching out for it as much as I should! Ps I’m in Sydney where it’s summer now!

No race this weekend but going to kick start training for a half in May as I have my eyes set on getting a PB.

I really enjoy reading your daily posts. They are so heartwarming and refreshing. I am nowhere near your level of running but finding your posts to be so so inspiring for a newbie runner like myself.

Reply

Sue Anne! Thank you so much for your sweet comment, it means a lot to me and I’m grateful we can connect online. PLEASE keep me updated with how your running is going and I cannot wait for you upcoming half. That PB is yours! Have a wonderful weekend!

Reply

Oh Kathy! I am so so glad that Reece is staying with you guys right now and that they were able to go ski today! Exciting about his TV program!! Keep enjoying the time together!

My eyes are soooo sensitive too! My husband makes fun of me for it, since if I’m outside for even a second without sunglasses my eyes water so much haha! Glad I am not alone :)

No race this weekend but running in Sedona on 2/1, so excited!

Have a great weekend!

Favorite thing this week: Disney races. They’re the best. The people are the best. The course is great. It was SO much fun. I may have to sell a limb to do another won = worth it.

My eyes are super sensitive too. I think it may have something to do with getting lasik done.

Bacon is not really my jam, actually any kind of meat in the morning is not my favorite.

No racing this weekend since I did the Dopey challenge last weekend, but I am definitely going to enjoy some easy, sunny miles!

Reply

My eyes are so sensitive! I don’t know how some people don’t ever wear sunglasses outside when it’s sunny!

Janae,

My eyes are SO sensitive I even wear them on cloudy overcast days and at dusk. I also have seasonal allergies and am convinced the sunglasses help to keep pollen out of my eyes as well. I’m usually the last one wearing sunglasses anywhere and even forget I have them on sometimes.

I loooooooove the Swedish Fish hearts and have a bag I’ve been using as my long ride fuel for the past 2 weeks. Yum.

My favorite thing this week has been tapering for the Houston Half Marathon! I haven’t run it in 3 years (I had hip surgery and then a baby in that time) so I’m incredibly excited to get back out there because it’s such a fun race! Fingers crossed the weather forecast remains decent!

Reply

AHHH ERIN! Good luck and please let me know how it goes. I’m cheering so loud for you! YOU ARE BACK!

Also putting Skye in a sleepsack should help! My 2 year old wears one as a blanket, and she wouldn’t be able to swing her leg up high enough! ?

Yay!! Thanks for the shout out :)
