Since we last talked…

Last week was just the best being all together non-stop and this week it will just be Skye and me starting tomorrow (and Andrew at night after work).  I’m sure Skye and I will find some fun things to do but it will definitely be a change!

We started the day off with Huevos Rancheros!  I want this for breakfast every day.

Skye is all about Skye sandwiches.

IMG 3937

For dinner Andrew made bbq chicken pizza (pretty much everything we are making is from Two Peas & Their Pod)

IMG 3982

And then we stopped by my sister’s house so our kids could see her older three.  They were gone last week with their dad so we wanted them to see each other before Brooke and Knox leave this week!

IMG 3986

Just a few more random things to talk about before I let you go!

*Still hitting up Great Harvest and the employees know our family’s names at this point which I’m quite proud about.

IMG 3527

*Turn on Frozen 2 in the car and Skye let’s out her most passionate side.

IMG 3604

*I’ve decided to take care of my ankles for the first time of my winter running life;). 99% of my tights don’t cover my ankles and I usually just leave them bare but this winter I’m going to keep them warm and dry with tall socks.

IMG 3849

*Two things with this picture… This is my current favorite drink and I still can’t eat those Fig Bars after eating like 15 of them during my ultra last March.  The kids found one and asked me to open it and I had to look away and not breathe until I passed it back to them.

IMG 3971

*I relate to this 100%.

That bit between christmas and new year where you dont know what day it is who you are and what you are suppose to be doing 6TUNG

*I think part of the reason Skye thinks she is Elsa is because Utah looks like it is straight out of the movie.

IMG 3898

*The other night on IG I posted about Andrew introducing me to Milk Duds mixed with popcorn and SO many people told me to try it with hot tamales so that is next.

IMG 3932

Any other things I need to combine with popcorn?  Any other random food combinations that I need to try that people haven’t told me about while I’ve waited almost 34 years to try?

Any foods that you ate too many of (during running or outside of running) that you can never eat again?

Current favorite drink?

Does this time between Christmas and New Years feel a little off to you too?

Moments with the entire family are great. But i’m sure you will have a great moment with only Skye too. A moment just for the two of you :)

My favorite drink these days is the Choco infusion from YogiTea. Really soothing.

Utah looks so pretty!! I really need to spend some time exploring out there.

Working in a hospital means I never know what day it is, and makes it feel less like Christmas. So jealous of my husband who is in school and so has like 3 weeks off! I miss those days.

During my last Ultra I ate a lot of Hawkins cheezies, but somehow I still love them! I’m sooooo sick of Huma gels though. I actually gagged the last time I tried to eat one!

Fav drink- I’m just obsessed with drinking Nuun. Or flavoured sparkling water.

Reply

Mandi, yes… come out and explore! Oh I bet that working in the hospital is hard this time of year! I am with you on Humas too… I won’t be able to have them for a little bit longer. I need to get on the Nuun train, everyone loves them! Hope your Monday is a great one!

So so so true Ingrid, Skye and I will have a blast together! Thanks so much and I hope you have some more of that YogiTea soon! Thanks Ingrid!

Hmm…I haven’t tried any popcorn add-ins, but that sounds like a good plan! We’ve been all about making our own Chex mixes: traditional (warm from the oven) and muddy buddies (maybe we should add popcorn to that?)
I used to be all about Lara bars, but I think I overdid it on those a few years back.
Being at work between Christmas and New Year’s is sorta good, with not many people around, but the days can feel pretty long, and I wish I had more days off when the kids are off from school.

Reply

Now I am craving muddy buddies and I think adding popcorn would be the perfect addition! I hope that today’s work day goes by quickly and that you have the best evening with your kids!

Dip the popcorn in nacho cheese sauce!

You just changed Andrew’s life. Thank you for sharing! Have a beautiful day, Andrea!

I was anemic in high school (common in female runners), and I had to take my iron supplement–which tasted like cherry cough syrup and rusty nails–mixed with orange juice every morning. 15 years later and I still can’t stand orange juice, which is too bad because I used to love it!

Reply

OH NOOOO bummer about orange juice! I can totally see why though. I hope your Monday is a great one, Isla!

candy corn and popcorn ♥️

I love the bai drinks too! The plain coconut is my favorite.

I work in a hospital so weekends and weekdays blend together for me regardless of the time of year. But the traffic has been so bad that I am ready for regular life schedules again!

Have a great day!!

Seriously, those bai drinks are addicting! That is how Andrew feels about weekends/weekdays! Now I need some candy corn and popcorn! Thanks Melissa, you too!

I feel like I could almost have in-between week anxiety. I looooooove my routine. On a positive note, my anxiety gives me lots of energy for running, fun stuff with Chris and Hope, and random house projects.

I’ve been fighting a cold for like two weeks (ugh) and have just felt off with running in general after taking two weeks off after my marathon so I’ve been drinking a ton of tart cherry juice and sparkling water mixed together. It’s great for recovery (I guess?) and it tastes amazing! I have no idea what day it is—the only thing I know is my kids are ready to go back to school. ?

Reply

Hahahah hopefully they start school soon! I might have to try your tart cherry juice and sparkling water combo because I’m feeling off too! Hope you feel back to normal soon and have a great day, Mollie!

Chocolate chips with popcorn! Also along the same salty and sweet idea is pretzel dipped in peanut butter then stick on chocolate chips!!
Yes my days are all off and our Christmas stuff stays up and the toys have not found new homes yet

Reply

Andrew will LOVE that pb/chocolate/popcorn combo so thank you so much for sharing. Your house sounds like it looks like our house haha. Have the best day Mary!

I think anything can be mixed with popcorn!

Drinking? Coffee, love it! But also lemon and ginger tea

I like turkey bacon but I really like it dipped in OJ, it’s bizarre but tasty!! The fig bars, I think I oversaturated my 12 year old with them. I was giving them to her as a post swim snack and she finally said “ hey Mom, they are now disgusting, I never need another one”… Point taken.

Reply

Okay, I’m going to have to trust you and I’ll try your turkey bacon combo! HAHHA and tell your 12 year old I feel the same way about them! Hope you have a beautiful day filled with coffee and lemon and ginger tea. Thanks Carrie!

Your fig bar story is how I feel about quinoa. I had food poisoning a few years back and I was so violently ill that quinoa was coming out of my nose. (Too much info lol). I have not been able to eat it since.
Enjoy your Monday!

Oh Gillian, I CANNOT EVEN IMAGINE!! I will stop posting any pictures of Quinoa for you because that is traumatic! Thank you and I hope your day is a wonderful one!

So I saw a meme on Facebook that I shared on my page, and it shows two stick figures. The first one is wearing a santa hat, and the caption reads something like “December 1-26: feeling joyful and festive, love wrapping presents.” The second stick figure has a round belly instead of a stick, is wearing a santa hat, and has the arm bent towards the face and is holding a wedge of cheese. The caption reads something like “December 27-January 1: feeling bloated, full of cheese, and very confused.” This would sum up how this last week or so has felt for me (except having had retail be my main job while I search for my next career, the first part of december had me feeling not at all festive…sometimes people can be VERY rude, and it ruins the fun out of everything…). This morning when I went to the gym to teach my RPM class, it was my first week on the bike. It took me a bit to feel warmed up and ready to REALLY ride and “be the athlete” on the instructor’s bike. Oof!

I tried one of those bai coconut water drinks once after hearing that they were so good, and honestly I couldn’t quite get into it. I don’t know…I tend to be pretty picky and have a hard time REALLY getting excited about lots of the nicely packaged drinks that are out there. I like, however: regular water, La Croix, an iced green tea without sugar syrup or any sweetener, SOME hot herbal teas, hot rooibos tea, and–well–the occasional glass of red wine or a margarita. It’s one of the few ways in which I am decidedly “picky” when it comes to what’s on the table in front of me.

I never was a fan of crunch bars on their own–they taste sort of waxy to me–but if you try mixing together the crunch bites (little clusters of the rice crispy bits covered in the chocolate) with buttered, salted popcorn, I AM SO TOTALLY HERE FOR IT. It’s delicious. Very, very, very delicious.

Hope you have a GREAT day out there! :)

Isn’t it funny when memes that are meant to be funny are actually really relatable haha?! So glad you were back to your RPM class this morning and I bet your class was so happy to have you back! I need to try your crunch bar popcorn combo, YUM! Thanks Stephanie and I hope you have a really great day too!

I used to work at a theatre concession stand (first job) many years ago and candy and popcorn were a staple in my diet. Peanut M&Ms with popcorn were a favorite as well as Sugar Babies and popcorn. I enjoy the week between Christmas and New Years. There is still that holiday feeling along with a slowing down of all the “busyness” so I can just relax and soak up this wonderful time of year. :-)

Reply

Sugar babies + popcorn = YES PLEASE! I’ll try that next. Keep enjoying this slow time of year, it’s so nice to not have any schedules and to just cozy up:) . Thanks Leslie!

Reply

Popcorn + Peanut m&m’s or Reese’s pieces. So good.

It took years after IM’a to have any sort of GU or PowerBar/Clif Bar. YEARS!

This week is so confusing, plus I have a bday which really throws people off. To anyone else having a bday this week I’m sending you a virtual high five in solidarity!

Reply

Those both sound so so good! Oh I can’t imagine how sick of GUs etc you were after an Ironman and taking so many of those in! HAPPY HAPPY HAPPY BIRTHDAY THIS WEEK! I hope you feel all of the love and get to do all of your favorite things! I’ll eat some cake to celebrate you:)

Loving the pictures you are sharing of Utah in the winter with the kids! I have a lot of random food combos :) A couple that I think others may enjoy : cream cheese and almond butter on sweet potatoes. And… a little jelly on scrambled (as opposed to hard-boiled) egg whites. I eat whole eggs too but sometimes I crave just the whites. I find a tiny spec of jelly/jam on half of them is tasty!

Reply

I HAVE TO TRY YOUR SWEET POTATO combo. That sounds really good to me! And I’m replying to your other comment here too:) So glad that work is slower right now and you are closing earlier… wahoo! And your advice was seriously just what I needed. That is perfect and I will find some things like that to do and I’ve also committed to finding someone to serve each day while they are gone to help me perk up too! Thanks for your help, Amanda! You always have the best advice!

Hi Janae! So many intriguing food ideas here, I love it. Do the fig bars taste like fig Newtons? I remember the first time I tried a fig Newtons in middle school and I was told it was a type of cookie and I was so very disappointed. Never tried them again!

Reply

HEY AMY! They do taste like fig newtons but a bit better (well, I used to think they were better but now I can’t stand them). I hope you have a great day!

Oh – and I like these weeks because work is very slow and we tend to close early every day! Woohoo! :) It is boring work-wise but it’s not too bad being paid to cruise the web, read an ebook, and be able to spend more time on your blog reading all the comments on your posts and make a comment (or two! ha). I hope you enjoy the Skye time! To make it easier, maybe you could do something that in the past you may have thought “I want to do “this” but Brooke and Knox wouldn’t want do that…” Maybe that never comes up but if it is hard missing the two older kids, to make it more positive you could try to remember something that occurred to you in the past where you bailed on a particular activity because it didn’t make sense with all 3 kiddos.

Alessandra (my 3 year old) has that frozen 2 microphone too!! If I hear “ahh-ahhh-ahh-ahhhh” one more time …. LOL. Wow I need to try those popcorn combos!!! That pizza looks amazing!!

Popcorn with sour patch kids has been my jam lately!! So yummy!!

My best friends mother-in-law makes this awesome popcorn party mix. She adds gummy bears, Twizzlers nibs, and different types of M & Ms – SOOOOO addicting. My friend did a “popcorn bar” at her reception so people could mix together their own. Highly recommend!

That pizza looks amazing! We totally need to make that asap!

Yes this week feels way off. I’ve never tried Milk Duds with popcorn but will be for sure. Ok, a friend mixes M&M’s with popcorn. I have also been told to try Junior Mints with popcorn, as well as the Junior Mint caramels, which are like Milk Duds but softer.

AHA! I see where Skye gets her scrunchy nose smile from… Andrew!!! Love your family picture!

Oh, the time between Christmas and New Years is like the Bermuda Triangle! I’ve been so off, at least I’ve remembered when to go to work, haha. My fave random combo is bugles dipped in vanilla pudding. Perfect sweet and salty combo.

Reply

The period between Christmas and New Years doesn’t feel that odd to me this year, but that’s because our offices close for the holiday break – I have been off since Dec. 20 and I don’t go back till work till after the New Year. I have been living in pajamas for most of the break and it has been glorious. But I totally get what you are talking about.

Current favourite drink – I have had lot of peppermint mochas this holiday season and totally loving it. But mostly, I really like coffee and London Fogs.

Hope you had a wonderful day Janae!

Love that Bai flavor! I also picture Justin Timberlake singing when I drink one!
Another yummy drink is Sparkling Ice Pineapple Coconut – tastes like a bubbly Bai. :)

i need to visit utah…so pretty!!
