One race I DO know I’ll be doing in 2020 + Sentence Per Picture!

I did my run on the treadmill because I wanted to sleep in and I didn’t feel like being cold—> 6 miles and Brooke joined me in my little workout room for the last few miles.

I learned my lesson to never buy an advent calendar again for a 2 year old because the concept of just one a day is too much for her and she asks me for them 2938 times a day;)

I found Brooke a kid version of the earrings I wear every single day so we were both excited about that.

Jess (we first met when I lived in my parents’ basement because she is their neighbor and she sure helped get me through some tough years!) is MOVING and so we had a goodbye lunch:(

If you by chance ever see the restaurant called ‘Spitz,’ please go there immediately even if you aren’t hungry.

Megan brought us dessert and it was the perfect treat to eat on the way home.

Beretta wanted in on a picture too!

Skye loved the food so much at our church Christmas party that she rubbed it all over her head.

IMG 2961

I do know of one race that I’ll be doing for sure this year—> The INDY MINI!  I absolutely loved this race last year and feel really lucky to have them bringing me back again this year with Lindsey, Kim, Charlie and Sarah!

IMG 4412

The rain was definitely not normal this last year but I loved this picture from the race where the rain made my shoe look really sleek and fancy ha.   This course is FLAT as can be, such a blast (YOU RUN ON THE INDY SPEEDWAY), the crowds are amazing and the temperatures are perfect.

Excited to kiss those bricks again (unless I’m in PR shape then I won’t be dropping down for that:).   You can get $5 registration if you use the code Janae20 .

When we lived in Indy my kids did the Indy Mini Mini on the Speedway. It was always so hot, but so cool!!

I ran the Rocket City Half in Huntsville, AL last weekend, and I’ll probably do it next year, too! It’s a really awesome race!!

Reply

I ran rocket city last year. We had rain the whole race and I didn’t perform well so that could she been why I didn’t love it. Glad you loved it and though this year! I did love the race shirt and beanie I got with it though!

Reply

Oh I would LOVE for my kids to do the Indy Mini Mini! How cool! Congrats on Rocket City Half and that is a great sign when you know you already want to do it again next year.

Have a beautiful day Claire and Mary and ps so cool they gave out a beanie too!

Popcorn: Orville Redenbacher’s Simply Salted

Rainiest Race: Air Force 10K in Dayton this year – It POURED on us almost the entire time (complete with thunder! We did have a small delay before the start to wait for the lightening to move away), then cleared up by the time my husband started his marathon. Then it ended up being super hot. :(

Sentence: Kick butt at work!! I am so busy right now – need to catch up.

Reply

THUNDER TOO! Oh that would have freaked me out! The weather that day was all over the place for you guys. Sounds like an exciting day haha:) . GOOD LUCK at work today and I hope you are able to accomplish everything that you need! Have a beautiful day Amanda.

My 7 year old constantly asks if she can open a day ahead of her calendar just so she can get more chocolate. I love Boom Chica Pop.

Reply

Hahaha these advent calendars are sure testing our patience! I love boom chica pop too! Have the best day Rachel!

Cherry Blossom 10 miler for me! This is my comeback to running so I’m so excited!

2020 is your YEAR! I am so excited for you and that race is on my bucket list! Have the best day Jenn and keep me updated on your comeback!

Hypothermic Half is first up in January, then Tokyo for my 5th star and my first ultra , Steep Ultra, in September are the only ones i have penciled in so far. Not really a popcorn fan but Costco is selling a Canadian brand, French Can Can, and their flavors are the bomb. I think Jalapeno is my favorite. Sentence of the day is.. don’t sweat the small stuff! Have a great day Janae!

Reply

Jennifer. I need you to start writing a blog so that I can follow your incredible adventures this year. YOUR 5th STAR , first ultra and so much more… so exciting. I need to try out the Fresh Can Can and also the hypothermic half sounds MISERABLE to me hahaha you are strong;)

My rainiest race was the Garmin Half Marathon in 2014 – which is how I found you as I was searching for solutions of how to race in the rain =]. We were hailed on and finished the last half mile or so in several inches of rain that had pooled in the parking lots. It actually was so much fun and I had to buy one of the pictures of me laughing at the hail captured by one of the photographers.

Reply

Oh no way:) I am so glad you found me in that search! HAILED ON and jumping through inches of rain… that is quite the adventure! I bet that picture is amazing:) . Have a wonderful day LC and thanks for sharing!

I’ll be doing the Key West Half in January, for sure–my 6th year. Eek. I cannot give that one up!!!! Other than that, I’m not sure. I’d love to train for a full marathon next fall if my body lets me. I don’t have any spring plans though, and I need to make some b/c I need winter (outside) running motivation!!!!

I don’t like popcorn. Am I weird or what? ha ha I blame it on YEARS of college roommates making microwave popcorn that smelled so bad!

My rainiest race was probably the St. Michaels, MD 1/2 a couple of years ago. It rained for the first half of the race only, but it had been raining all night, and we had ankle deep “ponds” of water to run through!!! I was dreading that race at the start, but it ended up not being so bad. It definitely taught me a lesson not to expect the worst/for things to be bad b/c they might surprise you!

Sentence for the day—GO SIXERS!!!! (We’re going to a Philadelphia 76ers game tonight! Woot woot!!!!!!! :) I love them as much as i love running :) And, thank you for the TJs goodie recommendations yesterday!!!!!!! :)

Oh, funny story. We rejoined Costco, and the first time we went, I went to the snack bar and asked about buying pizza dough–b/c your sister uses that, and I always drool over the pics you post of your sister’s pizzas! They looked at me like I had 2 heads asking to buy dough and wouldn’t sell me any! ha ha ha I live in a weird weird area!!!!!

Reply

OH NO!!! That’s because she gets the dough at Sam’s Club! I am so sorry Jen! hahaha! I am SO happy you are going back for the Kew West Half and I think you need to go for a record of doing that race the most consecutive years in a row! Haha I can see how that would ruin popcorn for you! Ankle deep ponds… that makes my feet hurt just thinking about all of the blisters! Have the best time at the game tonight!

Reply

My sister lives in Indianapolis. I might have to visit her and you the weekend of that race.

Reply

I LOVE THIS PLAN SO SO MUCH

Reply

I love repeating certain races–Rehoboth Beach Seashore events every December for me & 2020 will be my 10th!
One year the Baltimore 10-miler was held during a thunderstorm! We were so drenched. I also got soaked during a Marine Corps Marathon one year.
My sentence of the day is very short: Breathe!

Reply

I LOVE that you do that race each year, and tenth next December, that is amazing! I heard there was a lot of rain at Marine Corps this year (one of my running friends did it too). Oh I needed that sentence too… I take such short shallow breathes and I need to remember to take longer ones! Have a great day Corey!

Reply

Medtronic Twin Cities Marathon, Madison Marathon, Lake Monona 20K, and the Milwaukee Brewers Mini Marathon!!

Reply

Your 2020 racing sounds AMAZING and I want to hear all about how it goes for you! Have a wonderful day Carly.

Reply

If I’m eating bagged popcorn, Smart Pop is SO good–I just like the plain kind!

I am doing a 10-miler that I’m SO excited about. I did it last year and I was so nervous because I’d been injured, hadn’t trained, but it still ended up being lots of fun, so I’m happy to be going into it already healthier and better-trained than last year!

Sentence: I am tired but trying to look on the bright side! Work has been stressful and I have not slept as well as I could be . . . but I know I’ll be better if I remain optimistic!

Reply

SO happy you are going into the 10-miler this year feeling so much more prepared and excited! I want to hear about how it goes please. I really hope you are able to catch up on some sleep this weekend Kristin! Good luck with work!

Reply

Austin 3M half marathon, Austin seton marathon , the Brazios Bend 50k and the Cap 10k so far

Reply

Your 2020 sounds like a blast already! Let me know how all of those races go! Lots of miles coming your way:)

Reply

One run I know I’ll be running this year is the Gazelle Girl 10K. It’s an women only event. They offer a 5K, 10K, and half. The atmosphere is so much fun! A couple others are a 5K on super bowl Sunday and the Amway River Bank Run 10K.

Reply

All women’s races are a blast… I am so excited for you! Sounds like a fun year of running Jenn and I want to hear about how they all go. Have a wonderful Wednesday!

Reply

You’re killing me, I said I was taking a break from half marathons until I get faster. But my family lives in the Indy area and how cool is that to run the brickyard! And potentially meet you!!

Rainiest race was Marine Corps 10k but so much fun. The spectators were the best to be out there in the rain! And so were all the marines helping mark the course. Plus DC in October is beautiful, even in the rain.

I’m also considering the Norfolk Nauti Challenge (5k, half) again, or maybe the Nauti Lite (5k, 10k) in November. It’s the weekend before Thanksgiving and the weekend kicks off Norfolk’s Christmas season so the town is all decorated. They also have a Christmas parade Saturday night.

Reply

So far in 2020 I’m signed up for the Bank of America Chicago 13.1 (brand new half marathon!) and the Chicago Marathon (my first marathon ever – ahhh!!!). I’m super excited for both, and for the marathon I’ll be raising money for One Tail at a Time, a local dog rescue that does amazing work. I can’t wait to help them save more pups!

So many exclamation points in this comment but I’m just SO EXCITED!

Reply

Oh how I remember the day of the Advent calendar for the kids…. Ha ha. I’m sure next year will be better ?
I’m running the Surf City half on Super Bowl Sunday. We do this half every year, and it is so fun!
I have been super lucky and haven’t had a race in the rain, extreme heat, but not rain. My hubby, however, ran in total monsoon type rain in 2012 at the LA marathon. It was crazy!
Keep enjoying all your holiday traditions!!

I am signed up to run the Revel Mount Charleston marathon in April. St. George and Mesa-Phoenix were my favorite marathons, so I wanted to try a different type of race. Hope it isn’t too hot. I would like to pick out a fall race, but I don’t which one yet. Any suggestions? Just can’t be in Texas because it is still way too hot here in September/October!

Reply

I’m really wanting to do the Mesa-Phoenix marathon! Do St. George again:) . Hmmmm I really thought CIM was an incredible race/course! Top of Utah is a great one too. Each fall I just keep going back to choosing St. George though:) . I hope you have the best time at Mt Charleston in April! Thanks Whitney!

Reply

I’m doing the Dopey Challenge in January and then I’m looking at Revel Big Bear in November, I’m about 90% sure I want to do that one :) I need to throw in some 5 and 10k’s this year, but I want to save myself for the marathon in Nov!

Movie popcorn with Hot Tamales dumped in is my fav :)

St. George in 2018 was the most rain I’ve ran in during a race, and it was not bad at all.

Sentence of the day: It’s finals week so I’m done at 12:02!!

Reply

My favorite popcorn is Smart Pop. But right now I’m loving the Boom Chicka Pop Hot Chocolate flavored or Candy Cane Flavored).

Rainiest Race Boston 2018

I found your blog this past summer when I first started running and I love reading your posts everyday – you are really such an inspiration!
I’m running my FIRST marathon in May and I’m excited/terrified ?
And my favorite popcorn is that cheddar & caramel mix they sell in those giant bags at Costco. I can’t remember the name, but it comes in a white striped bag and our friends call it ‘Costco crack’ Lol.

Holy moly — I feel you on the advent calendar! My 2.5 year old twin boys got TWO — one from each grandma — and my husband and I had to put them away with the goal of trying again next year after the first two weeks of the month. They just couldn’t handle it — we felt so guilty but the advent calendars were stressing everyone in our house out each day. Holidays can be a trip for little ones and parents alike :)

Hi Janae! My rainiest race was Portland’s Shamrock Run! Almost every year it’s raining hard during the race, then the one year I don’t race it there’s perfect weather. Happy Wednesday!!

Reply

I know I want to do the Nashville Rock n Roll half marathon and the St. Jude Memphis half marathon. I’m stilling looking at a few and seeing what will work for my schedule.
The rainiest race I’ve ever done was in college in Louisville, KY. It rained so hard that it cut the power to the timing system so there’s no record that we even ran. It was disappointing ha! Also, our jerseys were white that year so that was attractive.

Reply

My rainiest race was my marathon last December. It rained the whole time and It took me almost 4 hours so that’s a LONG time to run in the 40 degree rain! I was so cold I couldn’t open my gu packets and missed out on some important fueling. And I refused to run in the rain for a long time after that! I had done my time! And even now if I’m not in training for a specific important race I opt for treadmill over rain.

Reply

YOU COULDN’T GET YOUR GU PACKETS OPEN… okay, that is terrible! I would definitely still refuse to run in the rain after that experience haha. I hope you have a beautiful day Mary!

Reply

Hahaha re the tree. My sister actually put a little round fence around the base of the tree so the girls couldn’t get at it.

I love the same brand of popcorn! They have a peppermint one in the white bag this year and I already at the whole bag…

The rainiest race I did was a 55km ultra in Whistler this past September. It was pretty much beautiful the other days, but the day of my race it rained from start to finish. I had a waterproof (or I thought)) jacket but really a seam sealed windbreaker and shorts was not bright. I was drenched. By the time I got to the top of Whistler mountain – maybe 10 – 11 miles (we started at the bottom).. I was drenched. My fingers were numb..but luckily there was a fire pit. My magic mitts were useless I was pretty much a wet mess..and yet I have never been happier.. Lesson learned. Will need better gear for mountain races in September next year.

Next year signed up for an ultra in July called Broken Goat 50km. And then I would like one more big race but haven’t decided on one yet.

Have a super day Janae!

Reply

Their peppermint version is the absolute BEST. I need that next. What an incredible race but I don’t know how you did it in those conditions. You are amazing! Let me know what other big race you choose for this year. I’m so excited for you and Broken Goat 50km in July!

Reply

I live in Indy and the Mini is my absolute favorite half-marathon by far. With the exception of 2012, I’ve ran it every year since 2009. I wasn’t following your blog earlier this year so I didn’t know you ran the race. You finished about 90 seconds before me so I’m guessing we both started in the same corral. I PR’d in 2017 at this race with a 1:29:06 and I’m looking forward to getting closer to 1:25.

Hopefully, I’ll get a chance to meet you in person next May.

Reply

Hey Adam! That 1:25 is YOURS and I can’t wait to meet you in May! Have the best day!

Reply

Well I might just have to sign up for the Indi Mini if you are going to be there. I haven’t done that one in a few years but it is a great race.

I’ve been eating my weight in Chicago Mix popcorn from a local popcorn store.

Reply

DO IT DO IT DO IT!! Would love to meet you there! Now I am craving some of that mix. Thanks Corrinne!

Reply

We’re rolling into SLC tonight… what’s your order recommendation for Spitz? It looks amazing! Also gonna try Sift? Cookies when we’re there.

Reply

AHHH I hope you love Spitz! I get the Doner salad with mixed meat! Let me know what you think! The cookies I get are from Swig! Stay warm:)

Reply

I became injured towards the end of fall last year which stopped me from completing my training and running my first marathon. Fingers crossed 2020 is the year! As long as I am healthy (still not running bc I’m trying to heal up but about to start testing it and running again thank goodness), I want to run the Indy Mini; it’s been on my list. Would love to meet you!!

Reply

Popcorn is my number one favorite snack! Favorite brand is Lesser Evil, made with coconut oil – I buy it at Whole Foods

Reply

The only race I have signed up for in 2020 is the Bayshore 1/2 on Memorial Day weekend.
Fave popcorn- It’s one from Costco and it has a white/dark chocolate drizzle and it’s amazing!

My Christmas tree looks exactly the same!!!! #twoyearoldprobs where is your adorable phone case from? I love it!

Reply

I want to do the Indy Mini SOOOOO bad but I’m due with baby #2 end of March… that may be pushing it BUT if I end up going I am for sure going to be looking for you!!!

Reply

I am doing a half marathon on New Year’s day, so I think I need to find one to do on Dec 31, 2020 so I can say I raced the first and last day of the year! I also have a 5k and a half marathon in March. Nothing else planned, yet :) I am not sure I will be “racing” the one on Jan 1……I haven’t done many long runs since my half in November………but I can make it a fun long run and see what happens!

I ran a half in pouring down rain in 2013. I love the rain and running in it, but that made me cold all day!

Reply

I’ve run it every year since 2009. I wasn’t following your blog earlier this year so I didn’t know you ran the race. You finished about 90 seconds before me so I’m guessing we both started in the same corral.
