Is it impossible? TODAY!

I have just one more podcast episode to share with you.  I’m on I’ll Have Another w/Lindsey Hein and you can find it here!  Just all of the marathon talk!

Another day off from running but I’ll start back up today and I am so so excited—> that’s how you know you are ready mentally for another marathon;).  Normally after a marathon I take at least 1-2 weeks off afterwards but our coach has trained us a little differently this time so we are ready to start running again sooner.

Skye and I went to Target to get some new shoes (somehow we lost her sneakers in St. George) and she probably stared at these for 30% of the day.

IMG 7292

A little bit later on in the morning we went to go check out the leaves.  PS I’ve had some questions about what pack we use for Skye and it is THIS ONE and we really love it.

IMG 7308

You know you have a problem when it’s only been 4 days and you miss your running friends a lot.  You sure get close to the people you run with.

IMG 7312

Skye lasted about 45 minutes because it was nap time but it sure felt nice to be outside in the fresh air and on our running trails again.

IMG 7310

Maybe I need to include hiking with Skye as part of my training because she is getting heavy.

IMG 7318

Just the normal afternoon over here.

IMG 7341

My good friend had a baby so we took them some of Megan’s Cream Cheese Chicken Chili (I like to add an extra can or two of tomato soup to ours) and made another crockpot for our house too.  If you need a delicious soup, try this one asap.

IMG 7336

It’s something that all three kids love too.

IMG 7337

And then I met up with my team for treats… these cinnamon rolls were insanely good.

IMG 7339

PS You know it’s cold in Utah when Andrew wears pants.

IMG 7331

Who will be watching Eliud Kipchoge’s 1:59 challenge this weekend?  Do you think it is impossible?  I am SURE he is going to do it this time!  PS the race will be held at anytime between 10/12-10/14 depending on the weather etc but I’ll post about it as soon as I hear on IG!

———————————————————————————————————————————–

Do you think Eliud will break two hours in the marathon this weekend?

How long do you usually take off after a big race?

Does it look/feel like fall where you are?

Any questions about the marathon that you are wondering that I can cover in a blog post??

Looking forward to listening to you with Ali and Lindsay when I start back to running/working out! Taking a break after my half last weekend.
Also – SO EXCITED for the 1:59 attempt. I think they have it nailed down as 10/12, but, the start time will be announced on Friday 10/11 – I’m sure it will be in the middle of the night for us, but, can’t miss it!!!!

Congrats on your half last weekend Rae! I wish we could all watch it together! Have a beautiful day!

You are such an inspiration!!! I have been following you for years and know you’ll crush these big goals. You had mentioned you were cutting back on sugar but do you still enjoy the donuts and desserts? I have such a killer sweet tooth, I’m either all or nothing. I have my next half in a couple weeks and third full marathon January. I loved the marathon last January and am hoping I pr or better yet bq!

Reply

Great question! Yep, I still enjoy other desserts but I’ve been eating way more dense meals that I am usually too full for much more so naturally I have cut down on those BUT if they are there… I usually have them. GOOD LUCK TO YOU and I can’t wait for your BQ!!!

Ok so I’m reading “Marathon Woman” by Kathrine Switzer about being the first woman to officially run the Boston Marathon in 1967 and its really good so far. It’s just so incredible to me that people literally thought a woman’s uterus would fall out of her body if she ran more than 1.5 miles!! This book talks so much about everything Kathrine went through before, during, and after the race to make running more accessible to women and I’ve just been feeling so thankful for her courage! When you ran this weekend, I was thinking about how her contributions made it possible for all of us to enjoy running so much and for you to run a 2:49!!! Just my random tangent.

Reply

I want to read that book now! Thank you so much for sharing. Her bravery has made it possible for us to do what we all love to do! I seriously can’t believe they used to think that… definitely still have my uterus! Have the best day!

Fingers cross for Eliud!! I can’t wait to see if he hits 1:59- seems impossible to me, but I believe he can do it!

Reply

YESSSSSS!!! I agree and he has so many people cheering for him so I think he can:) . I hope your Thursday has been great so far!

It’s awesome you’re feeling so good post PR. I always like hiking, I feel like it loosens up my legs with some easy movement…but I’m not carrying anyone LOL. Good luck with your run back.

I can’t wait to see the sub 2 hour attempt and cheer people on at Chicago too. I can’t decide if I think they’ll get it.

Thanks so much Hollie! It’s a big weekend in the running world. I hope you are having a beautiful day Hollie and now I need a cup of whipped cream;)

Nope – not looking like fall in KC yet but tomorrow it is going to feel like WINTER. Do you mind sharing what arm warmers/sleeves you wear????

Hard to imagine a 1:59 marathon! I will certainly be watching. He’s the guy to do it!

Reply

So true about the weather tomorrow. I hope we don’t straight to winter in NW MO. The leaves are just starting to change color just north of KC. Last year we had the first snowfall in St Joe on Oct. 15.

It was cool enough to open my office window yesterday and today for a few hours in the morning. So I’d say it feels like “Florida Fall”. Which is exciting for most of the family for wardrobe options and being outside. I’m excited about that too but…YAY lower electric bill!!! (moms are boring like that)

How did winter come to us so so quick?! And Betsy… October 15th and snow? Nooo! The arm sleeves I have are from Brooks 6ish years ago and I love them but they also have these now:

And everything they make is the best so I’m sure these are amazing. Have the best day!

I appreciate it!

It does seem impossible, but I think maybe he can do it!! Talk about fast, holy cow!
I listened to both Ali and Lindsey’s podcasts with you yesterday. .. both were so, so good!! They definitely got me inspired and excited to start really training again ?
I usually take a week off after a big race, but sometimes it’s hard because I just feel really good and miss running! I know our bodies need the recovery time though, so I really listen to what mine is saying.
What, besides Let Your Mind Run, are some of your favorite running books or motivational books to read leading up to a big race or goal?
Thanks Janae, and have a great Thursday!

Oh thank you so much for listening Wendy and I’m here cheering you on for all of your training!
Great question and I’ll answer it here too! These are my other favorite three:

I hope you love these too and thanks Wendy!

Thank you Janae :) These 3 books sound fantastic!!

I’m so glad you posted about the sub-2 hour marathon attempt. I didn’t know about it, but I’m excited to keep an eye out. I believe!
It definitely changed to fall here about a week ago, especially with the temperature. Our leaves are dry and falling, but not vibrant colors. I’m still not over summer yet, LOL!

Reply

YESSS wahoo and you can watch it here: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCrc3XCtBGtWErZUVVvn15jQ
Me neither… summer is way too good and I just can’t believe it is over. I hope you have a beautiful day Corey!

I’m so jealous of your awesome fall weather and scenery! Hiking is so fun and relaxing (for the mind). I think it’s a perfect recovery activity.
It’s going to be an exciting weekend with Chicago and the 1:59 attempt. I’m sure Eliud can do it and it will be amazing!!
Those cinnamon rolls look so good! I live for your food posts :)
If you need a new running book to read, get “Running to the Edge” by Matthew Futterman. It was so good I was sad when I finished. If you are a fan of Meb and Deena and Coach Bob Larsen you will love it!!

Reply

I need to send you some of these cinnamon rolls. THANK YOU for that book recommendation… it will be here in 2 days now:) . Thank you so much and I hope you get in a hike soon!

You can totally see that your coach is helping your strength as well, since you are still able to carry Skye on your back! What platform is the marathon attempt available on, do you know?

Reply

YES… so true! It is on this YouTube channel wahoo!!

Thanks for the chili idea! Making it tonight! ?

I hope you love it… we are addicted to it. Have a great day Jenn!

I literally squealed when I saw you were on Ali’s podcast and then also Lindsey’s … is that weird?! Lol! So much good stuff talked about on both. Both podcasts made me want to sign up for a marathon …. and if I were babying another rolled ankle I would. Womp womp.
I really hope he breaks 2 and I don’t see why he can’t, or anyone can’t. It blows my mind that he (and several others) are running literally half my pace for marathon. ps … love the new unicorn emojis on the latest apple update!!!! I realize that may sound random but talking marathon = Boston = unicorn = unicorn w/ it’s mind blown. The best!
In the past I’ve taken about a week off. I usually can’t go much longer than that without feeling twitchy and strange! Ha!
We had freezing temps this morning and everything was frosted over. Our mountains have snow and there are traction advisories on the passes so it already feels like winter in the PNW. I’m not too mad about it since snow on top of fall leaves sounds amazing.
I just really want to hear literally everything about the marathon! But mostly, how did you remain so healthy and injury free? Was it simply years of base building or did you take more supplements/protein/bcaa’s?
Have a great day!

Reply

Not weird at all! Thanks for being my friend Jenny! I hope that ankle of yours starts cooperating asap! I am so so sorry. Oh I can’t wait to show Brooke the unicorn emojis, she will be so excited. WINTER IS HERE… drink some hot chocolate asap! Oh great question… I will definitely work on a post about that. Thanks so much, you too!

I think he can do it! If not this weekend, some time. He’s amazing!

My marathon question is, did you notice any big changes physically during this training cycle (aside from speed and endurance)? Like different muscle definition, what felt really sore during training, etc. Not sure if that makes sense, but it seems like you trained differently than before, and I’m curious as to how that impacted you!

Reply

YES YES YES… fabulous question! I’ll get working on that answer, THANK YOU Kristin and I hope you are having a beautiful day!

I’ve been listening to your podcast with Ali On the Run in chunks while I drive. My daughter and I listened while we drove to youth activity night at church and she said asked when we got home if she could stretch and walk on the treadmill for awhile. Of course I said heck yes! Hearing you made her even more excited for our 5K Donut Dash next weekend and she was talking about “training” leading up to it.

Reply

Okay, this makes me so happy! Thank you for telling me and tell your daughter hi:) . Also, can I come to the 5k donut dash? That sounds amazing!

Blog post: I think you referred before your marathon to making the hard right choice instead of the easier wrong. I am wondering what some of those things are for you not just training and racing a marathon but with daily life while training. Like what are some of your simple pleasures of life and routine you kick to the curb during the height of marathon training.

LOVE LOVE LOVE this post idea. Thank you sweet friend and I will get working on it! Have a beautiful day!

I can’t wait to see if Eliud can break 2. I read a fantastic book last year that you will really enjoy called The Sports Gene. Find a copy if you haven’t read it – you will love this book. It really breaks down the genetics of the Kenyan / Ethiopian / Great Rift Valley people and what makes them such incredible distance runners.

Reply

Okay, you are the best! TOTALLY going to read this. Thank you so so much Kelly!

Reply

I would love to see Eliud break a 2 hour marathon! He was so close. Anything is possible… I know this blogger who tried to break 3 hours for years and she did. Then she went sub 2:50 ;)

It is definitely Fall here in So Cal – Santa Ana winds are howling and our humidity is single digits.

Reply

Oh that blogger friend of yours sounds pretty cool hahaha;) . It’s true though… anything is possible. YOUR HUMIDITY IS IN THE SINGLE DIGITS… WOW! I hope you are having the most wonderful morning Kathy!

Reply

I am totally rooting for Eliud with his sub 2! But I never feel like I can predict people’s times unless I know 100% of their training, nutrition, and recovery. So basically I can only guess my own times and yours! ?

I am very impressed you are back to running already! I am sure you know what you’re doing, but I’ve always heard you’re supposed to take one day of rest/very easy running for every mile you do in a marathon. Then again, those crazy people who run a marathon a day for months to break world records definitely do not do that!

Yes, it’s finally feeling like fall where I’m at! So exciting and just in time for my upcoming race!!

PS Can I have the link to your first ever Hungry Runner Girl post? Thanks!

Glad you’re liking the Deuter (I recommended it back in the day!). But you gotta buckle that sternum strap so you don’t hurt yourself with the unbalanced load.

Thanks again for the recommendation! So so true! Thank you!

I live in CO, so we have similar weather most of the time. I live in Denver, however, last week and this week I’m staying in Vail while my brother recovers from hip surgery. The weather has been the ideal PERFECT fall weather and I went for a trail run on Sunday at Beaver Creek Resort and the leaves were beautiful… until today… it has snowed at least 5 inches since last night. But on the upside, it’s supposed to get warmer again starting tomorrow. Just that crazy weather the mountains love giving us!
He was SOOOO close to getting it last time, so I think he’ll get it now!
I usually don’t take a specific number of days off, just until i’m not sore anymore and I want to run, which is usually like a week at least.

Reply

Loved both Ali and Lindsey’s podcasts! It was cute how excited they both were for you. It definitely feels like fall – it was 19 degrees this morning (eek) so I need to dig out my warmer running tights. And the Fall colors are on! My run friends and I are doing a trail run this weekend through the aspens and with big views of Lake Tahoe, can’t wait!

Reply

I used to take off a day or two after a big race and then run easy for a couple of weeks before coming back. Now? I’m tired. I’ll take the whole week off and ease back in for a month. Gonna call it- toddlers can really sap the joy out of recovery.

We haven’t quite found fall yet- less than 5% color change. However, tomorrow is supposed to drop bellow freezing. I’m crossing my fingers for colors.

Good work taking food to your friend! That’s really thoughtful.

I would love if you could do a beginners guide to running their first marathon post. Everything from fueling, hydration, to planning the longest training runs, to tips for the days leading up to it, building confidence, setting goals, injury prevention, etc. since you have so much experience and have worked with different coaches it would be great to hear what you suggest! I have read each of your race recaps and the blog post about what you learned from each marathon but just wondering if you could do another one esp for those of us without a coach. Or training plans you suggest. Another idea: I would also love to read a post on your morning/evening routine with all the small things you do that help set you up for having a routine with running or things that you do now that you didn’t do a year ago that help ( exercises for injury prevention, etc). I enjoy reading your blog and always look forward to it!
