Marathon Training Log!

I hope your Sunday is relaxing and energizing.  We have a little more time here to soak in this gorgeous scene and I’ll share all the details of our trip soon!

Here’s what this last week looked like!  It’s always a little tricky figuring out how to get in the miles while away but it’s a good thing I’m a morning person:)

Monday:  14 miles of running Timp and 6 miles later on in the day at 8:40 pace.  20 miles for the day because I knew that Tuesday running wouldn’t be happening.

Tuesday:  Traveling = 0 miles of running.

Wednesday:  10 miles @ 8:22 pace

Thursday:  12.5 miles with a speed workout… 1.5 mile w/u, 4 x 2 miles @ 6:49 average with about .7 miles recovery in between each 2 mile interval.  7:26 average pace for the entire run.  My body felt fine but the humidity made me feel like I was dying:)  Do people ever acclimate to humidity?!  Is that possible?

I didn’t know it was possible to sweat like this haha.

Friday:  10 miles @ 8:34 pace

Saturday:  Planned on doing 15-20 and made it to 12.5 miles @ 8:15 pace.  I’m calling my Monday of this last week a long run.

Sunday:  Off!

65 miles for the week!  Next week I’m planning on getting my mileage to 70 hopefully.

No one adjusts to humidity. We have lived here 11 years and every summer I try but end up on the treadmill. I just can’t get past 2-3 miles outside the humidity is too much.
Looks like an amazing trip!! Today is spin, meal prep and getting kids ready for 1st day tomorrow. ?

Best run was with my running group :), hardest…first track workout in about four years, lol. Nephews birthday party on my agenda (can we keep them young forever?).

That sweating…. it is a routine thing here in Boston during late May through about early September. The humidity is what gets ya! Bring on the fall temps. I hope the rest of your vacation is amazing. It looks absolutely beautiful!

I think it’s possible to acclimate to humidity somewhat – in the sense that you can start feeling like you’re not sweating to death, haha (although you still generate alot of sweat). I’m from Singapore (crazy rich asians) which is hot and humid all year round. I take it easier on the crazier humid days and train entirely by heart rate and time (my coaching programme uses this).
Also re the sweat, sometimes I get that in the gym when I do a spin session – it’s airconditioned but the bike is right next to the glass wall and on sunny days it gets pretty warm!
My hardest run was 110 minutes on a hotel treadmill, I had a quick weekend away with my husband without the kids :) the workout called for 30s of drills every 20 minutes though so I broke it up that way.

I live in Florida, and the humidity + heat makes it such that my clothes are soaked and literally dripping with sweat by the time I am finished with my run. My shoes squish with wet. My socks are saturated. Usually, it is over 85% humidity and over 80 degrees. But I live right by the ocean, which makes it all worthwhile:) :) I’m glad you had a great vacation!

Hi Janae! I’ve been following for ages, on and off, and let me tell you even though I don’t even know you irl, I was so pleased to find out you rebuIlt your life and look so happy :) congrats!
Btw, I wanted to ask you this, how many key workouts and type do you usually do training for a marathon? I usually do full ironmans, but I’m considering doing the Miami marathon in January. Thanks! Btw, I’ve been living in south Florida for the past 5 years, and omg I swear like crazy, I never thought you could swear like this, and yes, you get used to it!

I haven’t adjusted to the Florida humidity yet! I swear buckets after workouts!!

How do you find safe places to run when on vacation? I always get nervous about getting lost or running somewhere that isn’t safe on my own!

I ate a chocolate doughnut with chocolate frosting after my run. I think that’s today’s highlight. I will also be baking an apple pie and m&m chocolate chip cookie bars for a birthday party.
I don’t mind the humidity. I guess I’m used to it. It also makes my hair curl really nicely so all I do is wash my hair and put curl cream on it.
Enjoy your trip!

That kind of sweating is the only kind of sweating in Houston.

HA! Janae–I saw your Instagram–that isn’t ‘humid’ at all!! That’s actually a pleasant day in the South! :) Yes, your body does acclimate. I wouldn’t be sweating at all in that weather!

Good job running so much on vacation. We are headed to Florida to go to Disney World in a couple weeks and I hope to get as many training runs in as I can.

I ran 20 miles on Saturday by myself. I ran from the Traverse Mountain Outlets to Kneaders at the Riverwoods. It was all along the Murdock Trail. I wanted to test my mental training so I wanted to head out by myself. Thankfully the run went really well!

The humidity sucks and I don’t think my body has ever adjusted to it! You just go into it knowing it will be a struggle lol
