Friday Favorites/Unfavorites + WOW!

Day #5 running rest day.  I might run today but for sure I’ll be back to normal programming by next week.  It’s been a good time to recharge  again and get adjusted to Andrew’s new work schedule.   I did get in some time outside with the kids first thing in the morning on a walk.

Next up on the agenda = Knox’s Kindergarten graduation!

IMG 5593

During Skye’s nap I went out with some friends for the most beautiful salad in all the land.

IMG 5596

Knox and Brooke had their cross-country race!  Brooke is going to write a race recap (Knox is more into baseball right now but he was happy when the race was over;) for you!

IMG 5604

We cheered loud!

IMG 5625

And the rest of the day I spent in the car getting the big kids around and running errands (dinner was eaten in the car= cheese pizza).

While we were doing that, Andrew found a way to mow the lawn while keeping Skye safe at the same time.

I have a few Friday Favorites to talk about today!

*My new favorite Instagram Account.   Devrie is a dietician that is all about intuitive eating and breaking the diet culture.  Her posts are always great reminders for me and are helping me to learn things that I really want to teach my kids too.

IMG 4933

*This shirt, I must buy it for Andrew:)

IMG 5597

*Andrew knows exactly what I want for Mother’s Day.  I have been trying to race in different socks but I am giving up on trying to get out of my comfort zone with my running socks. These socks are all I ever want to wear when I have running shoes on my feet.

IMG 5142

*40% of the time TJ’s has a new item to buy, I will buy it.  I am very glad I bought these.

IMG 5421

*My other TJ’s favorite for a fast dinner= rice + chicken cooked in some teriyaki sauce + steamed broccoli.

IMG 5526

*Somebody recommended this book and I’m thrilled I bought it.  So many great lessons in here.

IMG 5144

*A neighbor brought this over to us the other day and it was a meal that EVERY. SINGLE. PERSON. in our family loved.  I’m adding it to our meal list because finding something that everyone eats is a big deal for us.

IMG 4642

She sent the recipe too:

Screen Shot 2019 05 14 at 1 51 10 PM

*Time for my least favorite thing about this week.  I went to Victoria’s Secret to pick up my usual lip gloss (punchy flavor) only to find out that they DISCONTINUED IT.  No joke, I have been using that exact lip gloss for almost a decade!  Not only do I not love the new colors as much BUT they are also not as sticky (yes, I’m the weirdo that loves a thick and sticky layer of lip gloss on at all times)… so now I’m left here wondering what to do.  Any recommendations

Jackie!!!  “First marathon!  I ran for many reasons but a big inspiration came from my late brother in law Tom.  6 years ago he had been training to BQ and came up a few minutes short.  He felt in the prime of his life at 42 and then was diagnosed with leukemia.  His grim prognosis of 18 months didn’t let that stop him from running.  He petitioned the BAA to let him run his bucket list race and they did.  Sadly he was a mile from the finish in 2013 when officials diverted him off course due to the bombings.  He passed away from his illness the next year. His wife had never run a marathon but she wanted to finish it for him so she petitioned, got in and finished it in his honor the next year!  After being diagnosed with breast cancer 2 years ago myself, I wanted to accomplish a marathon and then I thought why not take a stab at a BQ for me and for Tom!   I’m happy to report at the age of 42 I did it!  3:38!  It was tough training through a brutal WI winter, but I trusted the training, fueled and hydrated well and now I’m in the BQ club!”

Trina!!!  “Our first 5K together. This weekend my 18 month daughter and I ran our first 5K together! This was my first race pushing Elliana in our jogging stroller for an official race… it was a great feeling to have her out there with me as I’ve been struggling to get back on track with my running following a horrible car accident last May. I was the least injured of the two adults in the car but still my knee connected with the dashboard on the passengers side that resulted in long-term damage, in addition to the nerve damage to my left shoulder, arm and neck. Getting out and just exercising has been a struggle, let alone running. BUT – I want to be a good role model to Elliana. We push ourselves forward and we don’t let little blips stand in our way! And I think she had a great time. I mean… how hard can it be to be pushed in sweet ride, eat snacks, tell Mom to “go faster” AND get a medal for it?! I didn’t break any speed records with my first stroller race but I was happy to run the entire way and come in with a decent course time.”

—————————————————————————————————————————
Chelsea!!!  “I ran the OKC Memorial Marathon at the end of April, after having an almost perfect training cycle, but man, marathons are tough. At about mile 17, the entire right lower half of my body went out. It was the strangest thing! I share all about it on my blog (http://www.papersandpavement.com/blog/weekend-wrap-up-okc-marathon), but I just wanted to share the good and the bad – they both exist in racing, huh? So, here’s to showing up and finishing when we want to quit!
The beer at the finish was definitely a highlight! Now it’s time to learn form this one and gear up for the next!”

That Boston story from the accomplishments made me cry.

Isn’t her story incredible?!

Thank you Mollie! Ordering the ones from Ebay now… but what happens when they run out?! Ahhhh. I hope you have a beautiful day!

I started intuitive eating last year after I had my daughter because I had the same thoughts about wanting to teach her how to fuel and look at food positively than always see me dieting. I also stopped weighing myself completely because I didn’t want her to see me being Wright obsessed. Now I only see my weight at the doctors office. There’s a great book written by the women who came up with intuitive eating called “Intuitive Eating” and there is a whole chapter about teaching kids how to intuitively eat.

Reply

Catie, this is AWESOME! Your little girl is so lucky to have you. I love that book but it has been ages since I read it so I’m going to reread that chapter… I totally forgot. Thank you and have a wonderful weekend.

I am so excited to see my son who comes home from his sophomore year of college today. He will be home for 10 days and then leaves for a 10 week mission trip, so I will enjoy every minute with him before he leaves.
My favorite socks are Feetures, but I have also like Balega(2nd favorite)! Feetures has so many different types and colors and very supportive and don’t slide.

Reply

THIS IS SO EXCITING! Sara… have the best time with your son the next ten days. You’ll have to let me know where he is going for his mission trip. Oh I do love Feetures too. Remember a long time ago when running socks were terrible and now we have all these high tech ones:) . Have a great Friday!

Reply

He is going to Ocean City, NJ with 80 other students with the organization called CRU(formerly Campus Crusaders for Christ). They will have leadership training, then go out into the community/boardwalk/beach to spread the Gospel and share their faith with the vacationers and locals. So proud of him!

Reply

WOW. This is awesome Sara! You should be very proud. I hope he has an incredible experience. Thank you for sharing with me and have the best 10 days with him!

I have a 5 mile trail race this weekend with my husband, the first one he is doing since double bypass surgery at the end of January, I both nervous and excited! I definitely will be next to him the entire time! As for socks, I can’t live without my injinjis! Never a blister and their new Ultra line are super comfortable. Have you tried Burt’s Bees Lip Gloss? I find it extra sticky :)

Reply

Tisha! I am cheering for you and your husband. PLEASE let me know how it goes… I am so excited for you two. So glad your husband is okay after surgery. I do like Burt’s lip gloss too… maybe I need to buy a bunch of that?! Have a fabulous Friday!

Janae! Try MAC lipgloss clear – it’s so sticky, I love it! I still love reading your blog everyday. You are so inspirational and motivating. – former Radioactive Runner blogger :)

Sounds like the perfect solution for me. Sticky here I come:) . Thanks so much Sabrina, I really appreciate you! Have a great day:) . Keep in touch!

Reply

I second the MAC lipglass. Super sticky.

It’s a long weekend in Canada so I’m looking forward to the extra day off! I’m also doing a day trip to Buffalo to go to Trader Joe’s, which I’m very excited about since I only go once every 6 months or so! Do you have any must buys from Trader Joe’s or new items you’ve tried that are really good? I need to know what to stock up on when I go this weekend!!

Reply

Natalie, I hope you get to really enjoy your long weekend. Will you be able to get cold/frozen items???

Reply

Yup, I will! I’m bringing a cooler :)

Reply

AWESOME!! I have a bunch of my favorite things in this post:

https://hungryrunnergirl.com/2013/01/my-favorite-tjs-items-along-with-a-giveaway.html

Right now I am loving the cauliflower gnocchi, sweet potato gnocchi, sweet potato fries, pesto tortellini, garlic naan, you have to get the pancake bread, chocolate/coconut/almonds and mango mango gummies! Have the best time!

Reply

Thanks for the suggestions!

I was DEVASTATED when they stopped making the iPod nano! I hate running with my phone, and it was the perfectly little size. My last nano finally died a few weeks ago. :( I got a Mighty to replace it, which is also small and nice but it’s just NOT THE SAME

Reply

I. WAS. TOO. I loved my nano so so much. I am sorry it finally died! Good luck with the Mighty. Have a great day!

Reply

OH NO !!! I know exactly how you feel ! I am a lipgloss/chapstick girl myself. I had a fave from Bath & Body, the Liplicious Lip Color/Gloss. And a few years ago, they changed it. It’s ok now, but just not the same. It has broken my heart and I’ll forever be on the lookout for a new one. I’m currently still in transition. I have found real good ones that get me by, but still nothing that compares yet. I am so sorry this has happened and I totally understand the true tragedy. My family gets really bummed (sometimes devastated) when a favorite food or snack has been discontinued ! Not sure these manufacturers know how this truly effects us consumers ! The pain in real !

Reply

You get it! Change is hard when it comes to our favorite things! Good luck… I hope someday they bring it back! I feel for you….

Reply

My favorite flavor at Bath & Body Works is Pearberry. They have it once in a blue moon during their big sale. My mom and nephew are coming to visit us in Kentucky this weekend. And it’s finally hot outside!! Can’t wait to hear all about Brooke’ s race!!

Reply

Yay for warm weather and I hope you have the best time with your mom and nephew! I need to find Pearberry! Thanks Claire!

Reply

I am running my first half marathon on Sunday(Colfax half in Denver). Well technically it’s my second, but I DNF the first one so hopefully this will be the first one I complete. It runs through the zoo so that should be fun! Favorite running socks are definitely swiftwicks.

Reply

MORGAN!! I am so thrilled for you! Please please please let me know how it goes. Sounds like such a fun race. You are going to rock it !

Where is your blue dress from?

Hey Shay! I got it from Called to Surf! Here is their store link:

It is so comfy!
Have a great weekend!

OH MY GOSH I have been meaning to comment about an amazing lip gloss discovery for AGES. Have you heard of Miss A cosmetics? Everything is cruelty free AND only $1 and their “Glossy Lips” tubes are sticky and mildly tinted and I really think you might LOVE THEM! (CAN YOU TELL I AM SO EXCITED TO SHARE HAHA!) Here is a link! https://www.shopmissa.com/collections/lip-gloss

Reply

WAIT WHAT?! $1 and they have so many cute colors. Absolutely trying them, thank you… what a crazy good deal. Have a fabulous day Sarah!

Reply

Jackie, Trina, and Chelsea – you guys are awesome!!

Reply

AGREED!

Reply

SO sad! I hate it when my favs go away :( but try this Buxom lip gloss – I buy it at Sephora and it is super sticky haha

Its’s a long weekend here in Canada so I’m looking forward to the extra day off! Hoping to fit in a hike to balance out the massive amount of work I need to do on my thesis ha. Also, that salad looks incredible! What is on that beauty and where can I get one? I will need brain fuel.

Hope you have a great weekend!

Reply

They have super cute colors… thank you Rachel! We should be by a Sephora soon and I will have to get one! Enjoy the long weekend Rachel and I hope you get to go on the hike! GOOD LUCK on your thesis, you are amazing. The salad is from a place called 180 Tacos. I told the owner yesterday he needs to franchise his restaurant because everybody needs it in their lives. Thanks, you too!

Reply

Hi Jenee – Have you tried Burt’s Bees lip gloss? I don’t like it because it’s so sticky but it sounds like that might be just what you’re looking for. I don’t think I’ve ever been so product loyal that I cared when something was discontinued. Weird, right? The cutest IG account I recently started following is Pups ‘N Coffee’s too much cuteness!

Oh – and Balega for LIFE!!!

Reply

Oops! It’s *Pups ‘N Coffee

Reply

Let’s start a Balega fan club please! I looked up that account and I’m dying… I can’t wait to show Brooke when she gets home. Haha no I am the weird one. I do like that lip gloss too! Have a great day Alicia!

Reply

Hey girl! Can I just say that I’m really loving your head space lately? I can see how hard you are working at creating a healthy place for yourself and your family and I just wanted to let you know that I think you are awesome! ??

I now need that TJ’s popcorn in my life! Looks so yummy!

I second everyone who is telling you to hit up eBay or Amazon. People hoard the stuff and then sell it off little by little, so just keep an eye our. ? But, as a back up, I’d suggest hitting up Ulta. They have a no questions asked return policy, so if you can’t try something in the store, you can always return it if it doesn’t work for you. Their store brand has some thicker glosses that you might like. Also, e.l.f. is, to me, always worth giving a try. For $1-3 per gloss, I don’t feel too bad if something doesn’t work. I’m a pretty big NYX fan, personally, and I really like their butter glosses, but they come with a wand, so that may be a dealbreaker for you, especially for runs.

Have a great weekend, girl!

Reply

Oh thank you Michelle, that means a lot! It’s not to be in a place where I can take 5 days off, enjoy it and be happy about it. I need to bring over the popcorn to your house. I didn’t know Ulta did that.. no questions asked?! I’ll grab some things to try out. Thank you, you too and hopefully we get some sunshine!

Reply

Hello! I asked this on a different post but now I can’t find where :-/ Where did you get your sunglasses from? Can you link them?
Thanks! Christina

Reply

My favorite running socks are Feetures (https://feetures.com). My boyfriend got me a pair of their longer socks for Christmas and I’ve been obsessed ever since. They are AMAZING.

Reply

Oh I have never tried their longer socks… I might have to now! I hope you have a beautiful day Kelli!

Reply

Buxom lipglosses from sephora! Minty, plumping heaven. I bought one and now have four and the chubby stick.

Reply

Oh I DO love minty flavors… I need to try this Lindsey! Thank you and I hope they never discontinue these! Have a wonderful day:)

Reply

I will have to try the Balega socks. I ran in Feetures last summer and loved those!! Also the lip gloss issue. I have moved past my really sticky gloss phase but for years I used The Wet N Wild glassy gel it looks like they don’t make it any more but you can get it on Amazon it seems https://www.amazon.com/Wet-Wild-Glassy-Gloss-Glass/dp/B0051OL2EI it was really nice and sticky and didn’t leave white stuff on my lips after teaching a full class (I work at a college). Good Luck!

Reply

So cool that you teach at a college, you are amazing! $5 for the Wet N Wild stickiness… sign me up. Thank you Sara for the link! Have a fabulous day:)

The running stories this week made me tear up, runners are awesome! My favorite running bra was the Brooks Juno. Not discontinued, but they changed the styling a couple years back and the new version isn’t nearly as supportive. I’m so glad I had stockpiled some, but need to figure out my next go-to bra soon!

Reply

I agree, runners are the best and so inspiring. I’m so glad you stocked up! I’m meeting with the bra people from Brooks soon and I’ll let them know about this! Thanks Michelle!

Reply

I need to get my husband that shirt!

Some how most of the make up products I use tend to be discontinued. I have temperamental skin and can break out if I don’t have the right combination of face wash and make up. I always stock up if I know one of the products I use is being discontinued because it is no fun trying to find something new that works. Too much money is spent doing that!

This week I am going for my first ‘long run’ (8miles) since my marathon and cannot wait!

My favorite running sock are a pair of Nikes I got a rather long time ago but still seem good as new. Sadly that version of them have been discontinued, so will soon need to find new ones I like. I need to try out those balega ones!

Reply

You are so smart to stock up on the things that work so well for your skin! Wahoo for your 8 miler, way to go letting your body recover after your awesome marathon! Try the Balega and let me know what you think… I’m obsessed!

Reply

Burt’s Bees also has sticky lip gloss, in a variety of colors.

I almost lost my mind when Honest Tea discontinued the Community Green Tea. Truly, truly nearly lost my mind. I am now on to Just Green Tea, also by Honest Tea. Not an equal replacement, but good enough.

Reply

OH BOOOO… I am so sad they discontinued that but glad you have one that is good enough now. YES, Burt’s Bees really does have a great lip gloss too. Have a great day Kristie!

Reply

I would be so sad if my lipstick was discontinued from Clinique. I’ve worn the same one since high school!

I am chaperoning a trip to Magic Mountain tomorrow, so that should be fun! And I’m kind of looking forward to sleeping in a bit :) With injury comes some perks. I’m still cycling, but at home and for less time than I would do a long run so I will take advantage of my bed!

Reply

My mom’s favorite one from Clinique did! She was so sad. Have the best time at Magic Mountain tomorrow and enjoy sleeping in. I agree, it stinks to be injured BUT you can find the positives too. Have a great time and have some good amusement park food for me Marissa.

Reply

Jackie’s story was amazing! Congrats on that BQ, Jackie!

Victoria’s Secret has discontinued and reintroduced my favorite fragrance numerous times over the years! Don’t give up hope, your lip gloss may be back.

We have a fun weekend at church planned – our annual Missions Conference. We have an International Picnic tomorrow – everyone brings food from their native country. As a Heinz 57 American, I have brought many different things through the years, but Les requested Irish food this year. Bangers and Mash is my main dish and Irish Apple Cake with Custard Sauce is my dessert (I’ll have the recipes on the blog soon.)

I’ve never been that picky about running socks. As long as I don’t get blisters, I’m happy.

Reply

They reintroduced it!? Best news ever… I hope that happens to this too. Your picnic tomorrow sounds amazing, have the best time! I can’t wait to see pictures. Have the best time Kathy!

Reply

I need to try those socks. Question: what kind of computer/laptop do you use?

Reply

Hey Jenni! I use a iMac and love it. I’ve used one for about 4 years now! Have a beautiful day:)

Reply

NYX butter gloss!!!! Soooo good!

Reply

I’ll grab that at Target next time I am there. Thank you so much Holly!

Reply

Lancome Juicy Tube. It’s the bomb and super sticky. At Christmas, they sell a variety pack (mini tubes).

Reply

Super sticky lip gloss= my love language. THANK YOU Bailey… I love the colors too. Have a fabulous day!

Reply

I’ve been wearing Balega socks 16yrs. I can’t run in any other pair brand! That might even prevent me from running if I didn’t pack them. I’m serious. LOL!

Reply

Ugh- I hear you on the lip gloss front! They were a long time favorite of mine too. I had been wondering what’s going on with VS because they’d stopped selling clothing & not as much swimwear, they discontinued a favorite scent of mine (vanilla lace) and now the lip gloss!!! :( Maybe I’m just getting that old…….

My sister reccomended lanolips – it’s more of a balm but very thick, shiny & lasts a while. Coconutter & strawberry are good! https://www.ulta.com/101-ointment-coconutter-multi-balm?productId=xlsImpprod17911257

My favorite socks are ASICS.. I love that they aren’t overly fluffy or it’s blister city for me. I’ve stuck with ASICS for years now with socks.

Have a good weekend!!!

Reply

I like Avon, True Color Glossy. Not a fan of their new Crave line so I completely understand.

Reply

Oh my goodness…I have three discontinued things that I miss: SoBe Love Bus Brew (like yoohoo with ginseng), Honest Tea Gold Rush Cinnamon, and the Swiss Formula deep conditioner that smelled like mint.

As for lip gloss, maybe Burt’s Bees?

Reply

I haven’t been in an Express in a really long time, but they used to sell lipgloss that was very similar (in terms of stickiness) to Victoria’s Secret. I couldn’t tell the difference between them. Maybe try this? https://www.express.com/clothing/women/express-lip-gloss/pro/2000120/color/SUGAR%20MELON/

My favorite running socks are swiftwicks. They are fantastic! https://swiftwick.com/

I’m running a half marathon on Sunday with my sister in Santa Cruz. Sadly, the forecast is calling for rain. My sister is flying in from Portland for the race, and we picked Santa Cruz, because… May in the Bay Area? What could possibly go wrong. We though Portland would be riskier for the weather. Fingers crossed that the forecast changes!

Reply

Way to go Brooke & Knox!!

I only wear Swiftwick or ProCompression socks…I love them!

Reply

Thanks for recommending HappilyFed! I’m so in love with their Instagram now. It’s exactly what I’ve been trying to teach myself for all 30 years of my life. I truly believe when I eat something that I’ve labeled as “bad,” the guilt makes it not enjoyable even when I act like I’m treating myself. I’m working on thinking of food as food. It can be fun but it shouldn’t also make or break my day. We’re all a work in progress!

P.S. I’m so sad about the VS lip gloss too. It was my favorite and all I wanted to wear! On a whim, I tried Express lip gloss and it’s actually pretty similar! Tastes good and it pretty sticky. https://www.express.com/clothing/women/express-lip-gloss/pro/2000120/color/BERRY%20SPLASH/

Reply

I can answer two questions at once today…. =) My favorite running socks are the C9 ankle notch ones from Target that they discontinued two years ago. They are almost as good on the feet as my Balegas but being sooooo much cheaper slides them the tiniest bit ahead for a the win (I am super hard on the toes and heels of socks and have to replace them a lot).

Reply

That salad is beautiful and those popcorn look pretty good too!

Reply

Like the other readers commented, I would just buy every single lipgloss you can find from eBay and Amazon. Hopefully that will last you a year! ;) I used to only use chapstick, but I just started using lipgloss again and now I am totally addicted. I can’t stand the feeling of naked lips anymore! Haha.
