I’ve Waited My Entire Life for This + Friday Favorites!

Skye had no interest in being in the pre-school picture and started running away as soon as Andrew got out the camera.

I went to bed when Brooke went to sleep on Thursday night and woke up when she woke up Friday morning.  Over 10 hours of sleep.  When I feel lame for getting in bed extra early sometimes I remind myself that it is one of my favorite ways to take care of myself.  I think all of the traveling and race finally hit me and all of that sleep helped me to feel so much better.

I went on a short walk with Skye, my sister and her boys. It felt so good outside!

This beauty is back in my life again.  I had overeaten my sweet potato, chicken, avocado and bbq sauce combo for awhile and was sick of it but it now tastes amazing again (and I’ll probably overeat it again now).

I have been looking forward to yesterday for a while now… Andrew and I were the volunteers for Brooke and Knox’s (HE JOINED!!) cross-country practice.

I’ve waited for this moment my entire life;)

They had shaved ice to cool down afterwards.

We finished off the day with a birthday party at my sister’s house for my nephew!  He requested macaroni and cheese for his birthday meal and my sister made that along with her famous pizza.

Friday Favorites time (some affiliate links included)!

*I’ve had a bunch of people ask me where my outfit was from last week! These bottoms, this top and these shoes.

I want more Boston donuts already.

IMG 2208

*Passion Paradox.  I have read a good chunk of this book so far and I love it!

I understand that hooked feeling to the chase very much:

IMG 2605 2

*In Search of Greatness—> I loved every minute of this sports documentary.  I watched it on the plane.  It was so interesting to see the similar characteristics that many great athletes (in different sports) possess.

IMG 1963

*I tried the new R8 Roller Recovery at the expo and wish ours had the new black roller on it… that one REALLY gets into those muscles.

IMG 2301

*Skye’s favorite thing today are her new summer sandals (Brooke had the same ones when she was this age:). She has been sporting them around the house.

IMG 2637

*I learned at the Lululemon booths in some of the big race expos that they will do free screen-printing on any items from them.  I didn’t buy the official Boston jacket this year but I will be sporting these regularly:

*You all might already know about this but FindMyMarathon had really helpful weather information before my race.  You can enter in what time your race starts and your expected finish time and it gives you the temperature for each hour along with the wind direction!  Super helpful because I can never figure out if I’m going to have a headwind or a tailwind.

IMG 2346

*On a post before the marathon Erica said, “Have fun playing on your playground” and it made me really happy.  Think about that before you go out and race!

*Andrew and I love this IG account… But this one gives me too much anxiety to answer;) Can you answer??

Lisa!!! “Sunday I ran my very first 10k and I loved it!!! Was it hard? Yes! Did I have thoughts of what did I get myself into? Yes! But I did it and the satisfaction from doing something I didn’t know I could is so good!!! The weather wasn’t the best, but it could’ve been worse. We missed the real snow storm so for that I am thankful! Plus I’m a much better cold weather runner than hot! I had set a goal of finishing in 1:20 and I came in at 1:19:30, I was so happy to come in under my goal!!! This was my first Gazelle Girl race and I will be back next year!!! Great race, great volunteers, great atmosphere, one of the most fun races I’ve ever done!!”

—————————————————————————————————————

January!!!  “Today I ran the Horsetooth Half Marathon in Fort Collins, Colorado. The race starts at 5,195 feet and within the first 2 miles, you climb Monster Mountain(5688 ft), back down and up to Dam Hill (5579ft) all in the first 5 miles. If those hills didn’t kill your legs at mile 8 there is Bingham Hill (5252 ft) to finish off the legs. My legs were exhausted after that and my husband and I did a really slow walk. My hip flexor was extremely tight and I was barely walking. When I made it to mile 12 I jogged and walked until mile 13 when I jogged all the way to the finish.  I was happy it was over and finished in 3:30.”

Would you rather always be late or always be unprepared?!

What are you reading right now?  Anyone else reading Passion Paradox?

From which establishment have you found the best donuts ever in your life?  Andrew and I have made the goal to try the best donuts in the world.  PS tell me there are amazing donuts in INDY because I will be there soon!

Last meal/food that you ate too much because you loved it and then you got sick of eating it?

I’m not sure that I can answer your “would you rather question” because either one of those things would stress me out WAY too much!!! I guess I’ve probably been unprepared more than I have been late, but still, I’m with you on getting anxiety with both!

I think the best donuts I’ve ever had are from a place called Donut Palace (in the Dallas area). They aren’t a chain and aren’t fancy, and that’s what makes them so good. There’s also a place in Orange County called Donut Star that’s really good if you’re ever out that way.

Hope that you and your family have a wonderful Easter weekend together, Janae!

Hey Natalie! Right… both answers give me instant anxiety haha. Well I need to try those donuts from Donut Palace. Next time we are in California we will try Donut Star and take them to the beach wahoo. Thanks Natalie, you too!!

The last meal I ate way too much of and sort of got sick of it was biscuits and gravy and scrambled eggs. So so delicious but man, very filling! My favorite donuts are from a local place – Donut King. Now I want some ?

Reply

Well now you have me craving biscuits and gravy! Donut King… I must find them! I hope you have a beautiful weekend Kimberly!

Yes, that one is tough but I would have to say LATE. That way you are anxious about something that will soon be over and done with. Yes, you’re late, but you can move on to a better day. If you are unprepared, however, that sounds like HOURS OF ANXIETY AND FEELINGS OF INADEQUACY. Lol :)

Right now I am reading ‘Christine’ by Stephen King. His books are SO creepy but his writing and characters…. man, he is good.

I’ve never been to any cool doughnut places. D:

Hummus! I ate it on EVERYTHING last summer and a few months ago I was just over it.

Reply

Interesting… that is very true! Being late doesn’t take long to get over but being unprepared plays over and over again in my brain for a long time. Oh I love creepy books! Are you able to eat hummus again yet? Have a wonderful day Jessica!

Reply

I can’t choose either!! I hate being late but don’t like being unprepared either! That might be the hardest would you rather question ever.

I just finished reading “Girl, Stop Apologizing”, but I might re-read it because it was so good!

Reply

Right?!?! Both options are terrible ha. That book is so so good and I might copy you and read it over again too. PS I’m sure you loved her first one right?

Reply

Yes!! I found out about the first one from you and loved it!

I’m so excited for you and your kids about cross country! My son ran in my city’s excellent program for a few years–such a great activity for the kids & their energy :)
Since I seem to run naturally late (even though I hate it), I’d rather be always late. If I eventually show up prepared, at least I have that going for me. (I am getting way better at being on time when I’m on my own–wrangling the kids has a major effect.)
The best donuts ever (ha!) were Montgomery Donuts, a local place with 2-3 locations, but they sadly closed years ago after a fire at their main location. Close 2nd: a small bakery near New Albany, IN (in the south eastern part of the state, unfortunately not near Indianapolis). I can’t remember the name but plan to go there when we’re in town for a wedding in June–not too soon to plan! And a surprising honorable mention: a Walmart bakery that my husband stopped in in southern Maryland–just the right texture, and big enough that it was best to share halfsies!
Happy Friday!

Reply

I love that your city does that program! It’s so good for them and it was total social hour yesterday which made me happy because that is one of the reasons I run too. THEY CLOSED… oh that is so so sad. Send me a picture of your donuts when you get them in June so I can drool over them:) . Interesting about the Walmart bakery! I hope you have a wonderful weekend Corey!

Once you wear Lulu it is hard to wear anything else, I got those tights too in black, the pockets are life. I am reading “The Runaway Midwife” because my daughter is having a baby and I am fascinated by midwives. Hope you get to relax this weekend a bit.

Reply

CONGRATS on your grand baby coming! That is so exciting! I want to read that book, I am fascinated by midwives also. Thanks Allison and I hope you have a great weekend too!

Love the leggings. It’s a great idea! You can only have so many race shirts and jackets.

Reply

Yes!!! I totally agree! But leggings… we can never have too many of those;) . Have a wonderful weekend Angie!

The farmers market at the grove in LA has AMAZING donuts

I Would rather always be unprepared. Pretty much my daily life I get to work early and figure out what the heck I’m doing that day. I work best in the morning.

Also I thought of you because I ran out in the rain and wind this morning and my hair did that lovely giant snarled pony tail thing.

That is exciting both kids are doing cross country. My son is starting tee ball this week and I’m so excited to watch him.

Reply

I hate that question!! I’m just going to ignore it ha

I just finished reading Meb’s book. It is so good!! SPOILER ALERT: he talks about throwing up a few times – yuck :(
Ryan Hall’s book is next on my list.

I made the mini pizzas with TJ’s garlic naan last night. SO GOOD!! Thanks for the recommendation! I’m going to keep some in the freezer at all times.

I just love that pic of Knox and Brooke running! Have a great Easter Weekend!!

Reply

Oh my goodness that is the most stressful would you rather ever!! I have to go with always late. I am an EXCESSIVE over-preparing. I would lose my mind if I lost that ability haha

If you’re ever in Calgary (AB, Canada) you must go to the Donut Mill! Maple Rolo Donut. Thats all I’m going to say.

Aside from donuts (which are arguably the best breakfast), what meals are in your current breakfast rotation?? I’m in a serious rut where I don’t feel hungry when I wake up and can’t figure out what I want?? Hope you have a wonderful long weekend!! :)

Reply

I rather be late for sure, even though I really don’t like either : )
I’m reading Roar right now and LOVE it.

Reply

Okay, with that question I originally thought it would be an easy answer. Then I overthought it. Where am I going? What will I do once I get there? How long will I be there? Who will I be with? What will they need? What will I need? Is this forever and ever and ever. Every day, every place, always? It has to be the same thing? Aaaahhhhhh! The spiral went fast, haha! But, as much as I dislike being late, I’m usually a minute or two late often enough that I can sort of cope with that stigma (15, 20, 30 minutes late however stresses me out and quite frankly is just plain rude, unless people have a really good reason…in real life, but this is hypothetical so I am not going to digress too much…). So, I think I would rather be prepared but be late. Always. For everything. No matter what. Every time. Everywhere. Because then in this scenario, yeah I was the lame late one, but oh no! the zombie apocalypse just happened and guess who has everything we need to barricade ourselves nice and snug in here? That’s right… Mrs. McLatey-pants! Have a granola bar and thank me, everyone. :)

As far as eating a food until I got tired of it…that’s hard to say. I do that a lot with lots of things, haha! But I will say that I went to brunch with a couple friends yesterday and we went to The Original Pancake House, and I had never been there before and my friend did warn me that you can do half orders but the menu said “small” pancakes (GF options for the win, yay!) so I figured I could handle it, and then the waitress was all, “Would you like fresh berries on top?” and the sunshine outside must’ve gone to my brain because I was like, “Heck yeah I do!” and then she said, “How about fresh whipped cream?” and then I was like, “Well, I don’t know…” and she said, “I can just put it on the side if you want?” and then I thought, “Okay, sure!” And then five of the six “small” pancakes later…I actually haven’t eaten food since 11:30 yesterday morning because I am still so VERY full! (I’m totally hydrating and being healthy, but the thought of food right now is just not appealing.) So, as good as that meal was, and as much as I want to repeat that meal again very soon…it actually will not be any time soon that I *actually* repeat that meal, haha!

Have a great Friday, Janae! Enjoy the glorious sun and warm weather while we’ve got it!

The best donuts I’ve had were from Stan’s Donuts in Santa Clara. Yum Yum Donuts are the best I’ve found here so far.

Being late and being unprepared both freak me out – I can’t choose.

I just finished reading Still Life by Louise Penny for book club and Girl, Wash Your Face just came in yesterday on my e-reader so it’s up next.

love those boston leggings! good decision! I would rather always be late because then atleast i can be super prepared and by the end ppl will forget i was late ;)

my favorite donuts in the entire world are from Diablo in Baltimore!! I used to stop there when i would drive from DC to Philly (its like 35 mins out of the way) after falling in love with them when i previously lived in Baltimore. they are pricey but gooood my fave is the marshmallow-filled

i started making the TJs frozen veggie fried rice + TJs tofu organge chickn together bc its cheap and easy and delish and a good lunch to pack for work but i think im sick of it now hahaha

Dancing Donut in the Broad Ripple neighborhood of Indy! They have the cutest branding and very creative flavor options (like fruity pebbles!)

Whole food wraps. I ate one every day for 2 weeks…then I needed a break.

Because I live in Canada, I like Tim Hortons donuts but Lucky’s a local shop has the best donuts, like maple bacon and lavendar.

Books I am ready. A cheesy romance and also the Happy Runner by Megan and David Roche.

Have a happy Easter!

The cross country team looks so fun, and it’s so cool that you could volunteer!
I can’t stand being late, so maybe if I were early enough, I’d have time to quickly prepare?! I’m still reading plenty of baby care books and also stories to Diana.
My favorite doughnuts are from a little shop in the town I work in, called, “Joe’s Donuts.” The best maple bars, for sure! It’s on the way to Mt. Hood, so lots of skiers stop on their way for some yummy fuel. Luckily, we tend to have them at school too, every couple of weeks!

I really ate a ton of applesauce in my pregnancy, but I still crave it sometimes now too.

Have a wonderful weekend!

Running my first half marathon since having babies TOMORROW! Thanks for inspiring me :) I will also be sporting my Koala Clip that I bought on your recommendation and I DO NOT know how I lived without it! Have a great weekend.

Your last question is an easy one for me!
Icing! Fortunately or unfortunately….I love love love icing (well, I USED to). Hold the cupcake…hold the cake layers and all the filling in between….just gimme any utensil and leave me be. But a few years back, the teachers at my moms school had a retirement party and had one of the Costco sheet cakes. Knowing my love of the icing (especially the balloons and flowers!!!), she gifted me the leftovers. Every night….I’d open up the fridge and take a little more, a little more, a little more….my sweet tooth was MORE THAN satisfied. But I COULD NOT STOP! Knowing that I had absolutely no self control, I finally took that freakin thing and chucked it, icing-side down, right out the front door into the snow!
Oddly enough…the ONLY time I’ve been able to eat icing since is if my stomach is very upset…it somehow quells it, but I need just a small teaspoon and I’m good.

Your sisters pizza! ??? I’m drooling! Have you ever had onion pie?!?!?! My husbands family owns a bakery and they used to make it! It’s basically a pizza crust, topped with sautéed onions…after sautéing the onions, you throw them on the pizza dough, add sliced green olives (or not if you don’t like them) and bake. So yummy. Seriously doesn’t even need cheese/sauce or any other toppings.

I had the best donut of my life in downtown Minneapolis at the Angel Food Bakery. It’s right next door to Hells Kitchen restaurant. It had some sort of passion fruit cream inside and icing on top. It was a perfect balance of flavours, not too sweet, and I couldn’t stop talking about it for days, ha ha!

I have to know how you cook your chicken for the sweet potato and chicken! It looks SO GOOD!!!!
