Silentish Saturday!

These two are with their other parents for the weekend so we are missing them like crazy.

Yep, it’s back.

My left ankle was swollen again so I took a trip to see Dr. B… It’s good to go now to run on it but I’m still taking another week off from running.

I was supposed to do my final 10k training run today, but the virus that has been going thru out house since a week a go friday finally got me yesterday, I can’t quit coughing so needless to say I won’t be running this weekend. I did build a buffer into my training schedule so I still have next weekend to get my 6.2 mile run in. My youngest was the last to come down with it and she woke up with a fever at 2AM! So I’ll be resting, probably going to get some more meds and resting :)

Oh Lisa, I hope that you guys are feeling better asap! Good luck to you all… this is the worst! I hope your 6.2 next weekend are amazing.

We are going to an open house ?we like it! Then packing for my work trip to Boston and hopefully getting to be early!!! I know…super crazy day!

Oh I hope that you love it! Enjoy your work trip and a good night of sleep!

5 mile run/racewalk ( or more if I want!), special errands and dinner with friends.

It is going to be 70 here today and I am waiting until it is at least out of the 40s to head out. Gotta love the north, it can be 20 in the morning and 70 in the afternoon!!

Reply

ENJOY THE SUN FOR ME! Hahah you can wear 4 different outfits each day with the range in temperatures you experience! I hope your run/racewalk was a great one. Enjoy Carrie!

Not too many plans today except the Riverton Half this morning!! I did this race (super close and local for me) last year and it was sooo windy and I had such a bad attitude the whole time. This year my goal has been to just have a positive mindset the whole time and be thankful to get to do it! I’m so excited!

Reply

AHHHH HOW DID IT GO!! I’ve been wondering about this half! I bet you rocked it and I hope it wasn’t windy!

Reply

It is a really nice small race! You’d probably win overall :) it goes a lot along The Jordan River trail and through some nice neighborhoods and even a dirt road in bluffdale! It’s hilly but today I told myself to look forward to each hill. :) No wind today and it was perfect! I felt really strong the whole time and finished in 1:59:39!

Reply

You rocked it girl! So happy you felt so strong! Maybe I’ll come do it next year with you?! Congrats and recover well!

Reply

That would be SO fun!!

Reply

Leaving for st George today, telling our kids what we are really doing tomorrow. I will be trying to figure out the best way to post their reaction on Instagram:)!!!! I’m so excited!

AHHHHHH I AM SO SO EXCITED! FILM IT. Have the best trip!

Long run.
Unfortunately, going to a dear friend’s mom’s funeral. ?
Something extra delicious like fries, or ice cream, or pizza, or cake…..you get the idea.

Reply

Erica, I am so sorry about your sweet friend’s mom. I hope that the funeral was a very peaceful and loving experience for everyone.

I definitely get the idea and I hope your long run felt great.

I was looking for the critter in your yard picture! Then I realized you were talking about the snow LOL

I’m in Chicago for the week for work. Today is booked with girlfriend time!

Reply

Oh hahah I forgot about the racoon… he luckily is not back! Enjoy your day and time in Chicago!

Great job on your race! So inspiring!!
1. 6 mile run done (followed your suggestion and wore a hat with headband over for a 40 degree drizzle run! Thanks)
2. Car test driving and lunch with my boyfriend’s mom and sister.
3. Watch TV tonight and chill

Oh I am so glad the hat/headband worked! Great run! Enjoy lunch and a relaxing night! Thanks Emily:)

It’s the last weekend of spring break here, so I think we’re heading to the beach! If so, that is the only thing on the agenda ?
I am so glad you found out that your ankle was dislocated and you were able to get it fixed! Phew
Enjoy a quiet-ish Saturday Janae!

Reply

Oh enjoy your time at the beach (can we join you?!?) . Oh thank you! I messed up on the description of what happened but it is okay now:) . Thanks!

Reply

Woke up to a “nice” blanket of brand new snow (nooo!! I thought we were done with that lol) so I decided to postpone my long run to tomorrow morning and go have fun with my crossfit friends this morning ;-) Going to see “How to train your dragon 3” with my little guy this afternoon. Then family dinner tonight. Have a great Saturday and please let your ankle heal well! Your body did something amazing for you and recovery is a big part of getting even stronger!

Reply

NO MORE SNOW PLEASE!!! I hope your long run is great tomorrow and enjoy the movie and dinner. You are so right… thanks Mel!!!

Reply

1) we got 5 inches of snow so first, shoveling…
2) help someone move in mid-day…
3) squeeze some shorter treadmill runs around those things.

Reply

FIVE INCHES?! WHAT???? I hope your day is a great one and stay warm!

Reply

Snow?!! That’s crazy! I’m glad it was not snowing for your ultra!
Did you like the Trader Joe’s chicken fettuccine Alfredo? I keep almost buying it, but I didn’t know if it would turn out good!?

Reply

Hey Melly!!! I mean it is delicious for a bag that is frozen where you just pour it all into a pan! Next time I’m going to add some steamed broccoli or something! Have a great day and let me know if you try it:)

Reply

Your poor ankle! You are clearly super tough to be moving around on it this whole time ? glad you are mended now though!
Just finished 17 very cold and very wet miles so now I’m trying to force my hands to make coffee and such. Otherwise warming up and working under a blanket for the rest of the day.

Reply

Thanks so much Fiona. I messed up on the description of what happened but it is feeling a lot better. HUGE CONGRATS to you on running 17 miles in terrible conditions. I hope you are feeling very warm and very comfortable right now!

Reply

Yikes! I really had to cringe at the “ankle dislocation” part… as a physical therapist, I know that it was most likely not dislocated. You would have 100% noticed that, and true ankle dislocations typically occur alongside fractures. The ankle mortise joint is really sturdy, locked between your two leg bones. It disappoints me that this is how your chiropractor described it to you :( Most likely it is more accurate that you were tight from 50 miles of running and simply needed a joint manipulation or mobilization… not the same as joint relocation. I’d love to chat more if you have questions about that!

Reply

I BUTCHERED MY DESCRIPTION and I have been away from home until now to see these comments and fix it. I am very sorry. He explained it correctly to me and I messed up:) . I am truly so sorry and I hope I didn’t cause any problems. What happened was that my arch muscles fatigued leaving my ligaments to do all of the work… the ligaments finally loosened allowing my arch bone to dislocate… Does that make more sense? This is definitely not my specialty so I probably should have just left it out. I’m really sorry!

Reply

Oh gosh please don’t apologize! Thanks for clarifying. I was mostly worried this was the description of the chiropractor… unfortunately there are health professionals out there that exaggerate for more business :( Please don’t think I was being rude either, just hoping to educate!!! :)

Reply

Oh I know you aren’t mad at all! I just get stupid for talking about something I know very little about (I don’t like it when other people do that ha)! Thanks Ashley!!!

Reply

I need that rowing bike during my recovery!! That’s so awesome!
Today I will go do some upper body strength, and then cardio (via armcycle) at the gym, then I’m off to the beach to study for my comps, which are only 3 weeks away! ?
Got some good news during PT yesterday – I may be done with crutches by next weekend! ???
Please tell me what brand of peds you wear? I have yet to find a pair that actually stay on my feet (I wear a size 10) they always slip off and drive me nuts!
Have a great weekend. Janae!

Reply

Isn’t it a cool bike?! I am so sorry but I’m confused by your question but I want to give you an answer!! Are you talking about my socks? AHHHH YAY TO JUST ONE MORE WEEK OF CRUTCHES!! You have been healing wonderfully and I am so excited for you.

This morning I woke up early to get in my long run – because there was going to be a nice sunrise! It was so nice to have my long run done by 8 am and the early mornings are so peaceful. My favourite part of day

Other than that we are going to go out and enjoy sunshine – and nothing big planned. Just relaxing because it has been a busy week.

Have a wonderful day Janae!

Reply

Kristine! That long run sounds perfect! I agree, best part of the day:) . Enjoy the sun!

Reply

I have to assume that your ankle was not actually dislocated???
Because I have had a dislocated ankle, and it is severe and one certainly could not expect to be back running (mine required surgery. It’s no small thing!!)

Reply

I 100% MESSED UP WHAT I SAID and I am so so sorry. I am so sorry about what you went through… surgery, I am so sorry Sarah! So it was a problem with the bone in my arch that was causing the area near my ankle to swell up from the grinding. Next time I’ll just leave this kind of thing out because I am not trained in this type of thing at all. Sorry about that!

Reply

Dislocated ankle?? Crazy!! Glad he put it back :)
I just got done with an 8 mile run and it felt so good!
Spending the day with family and maybe shopping for some new furniture for our house ???

Reply

I messed up my explanation! It was a dislocation in my arch that was causing the swelling in my ankle. Butchered my explanation 100% but thank you! So so glad you had a great run and enjoy your time with your family and finding new furniture! So so fun!

Reply

I just have to comment and say that I would 100% agree with Ashley and Sarah’s comments about your ankle. I am a Nurse Practitioner in Foot and Ankle surgery and a true ankle dislocation would likely require surgery coupled with several months of recovery. Please don’t take this as an attack towards you Janae, I love you and your blog to pieces, but it frustrates me that a medical professional would tell you this. If your ankle is still bothering you I would recommend seeing a provider that specializes in Orthopedics, Sports medicine or podiatry so that you can get an accurate diagnosis.

Reply

I BUTCHERED MY EXPLANATION. I feel really bad about it… I should not even be saying anything medical online because I really am so clueless. I texted him about it and it was actually a problem in my arch that was causing grinding and the swelling near my ankle. I absolutely messed this up and it feels great today but I’ll keep a very close eye on it. Thanks Erica for your help and I don’t take it as a an attack in the slightest. I just feel silly for trying to talk about something that I am not trained in at all. Definitely won’t make that mistake at all! I hope you have a beautiful day Erica and YOU ARE AMAZING… NP in foot and ankle surgery, wow!

Reply

No worries at all, Janae! Thank you for your response :). That’s the wonderful thing about blogs is learning from one another. Have a blessed weekend!

Painting the cover of my friend’s wedding guest book, ran 9 miles to build my base for my half ironman training and now compression socks and recovery!! Saturdays at their finest for me!

Things I did today: ran a half-marathon with negative splits ?? in an absolute downpour (and then watched it change to snow and sleet this afternoon and felt SO grateful for the rain!) , got a couples massage with my husband after the race, and watched Moana with my kids on the couch + ordered pizza so I could baby my legs and stay in my pjs! ? ps I hope we have better weather in Indianapolis for the Mini when you are here—it’s been craaaaazy today!!

Reply

That injury has happened to both my feet. The first one running a half marathon, I finished the race and was in pain after for quite a long time and figured it was a stress fracture. That’s how the grinding bones in my foot/ankle felt like, a fracture. I had it diagnosed 6 months later, after it still hadn’t healed, as ligament damage and told it would eventually heal. That was about 6 years ago and it still bothers me and it has also happened to the other foot just from walking too much…I switched to walking half marathons after the first injury. Neither foot has healed and I can no longer run or do any exercising with any hopping involved. Here’s hoping you have better luck with the healing process. Make sure you rest it PLENTY!! I never did and you definetly don’t want to end up in my situation.

Sad that was a video with the rowing bike!
