Tell Me If This Is A Crazy Idea:

I posted a new Skye update!  You can find it HERE.

————————————————————————————————————

I had 10 miles to get in way too early for me to want to be on the roads alone so I went to the gym to hang out with other crazy people doing the same thing…

I think my college self (that had a hard time making it to my 9 am classes) is just so confused with my morning choices now.

IMG 4372

Putting a checkmark next to a completed workout feels so good….

IMG 4485

6 x 5 minutes at a steady/strong pace… try it!  It’s quite amazing how fast those 1 minute recoveries go by and how much those 60 seconds try to convince you to not push start again.

My watch and the treadmill are pretty close now (the watch said that I was running a few seconds per mile faster but I was running on a 1-1.5% incline so maybe it all evens out?).  I did pause my Garmin for the 1 minute recoveries (so really I did this workout in 1:15:32… so more of a 7:33 average) but for the time I was running, I averaged a 7:03 according to my watch.  It was fun, hard, challenging and interesting going a different speed again.

IMG 4433

Skye’s morning hair is always a family favorite over here.

IMG 4461

She is still loving her indoor play place and it is saving us this winter.

IMG 4482

Brooke told me to do a surprised face instead of a smile for our morning selfie together.  I might have an actress on my hands because that face of her looks like I really did just tell her some very shocking news.

IMG 4476

After I dropped her off I went to the temple.  It’s my favorite place to hit the refresh button on my perspective on life.

IMG 4480

I came home and worked until Skyester woke up and we had lunch together.  She is always very willing to share her vegetables with me.

IMG 4494

We picked up Brooke and they played at the mall for a little while.

IMG 4506

We then went to Costco and they had Kodiakcakes for samples which inspired breakfast for dinner (laziness also inspired this meal).

IMG 4508

Andrew and I were on the Man Bun Run podcast if you need something to listen to today.  We had so much fun talking with Rylee and he is training for his first 50 miler too.

IMG 4484

I am loving the book (Running Your First Ultra by Krissy Moehl) I am using to learn and train for this ultra and this paragraph was one of my favorite parts of the entire book.

SO MUCH TRUTH.

IMG 3976

Speaking of training for this ultra, I think I have a crazy idea.  The plan calls for a 30 mile training run right around my 33rd birthday….

I told Andrew that all I want to do on my birthday is run 33 miles… am I crazy or should I spend the day just relaxing?  I think we all know the answer already but I’m excited to go for it.  Andrew will be doing his Capstone next month so if he is in the hospital that day (3 12 hour shifts each week) I might do it the day before or the day after but I think this should be fun.  Anyone want to come join me for parts of the run?  Or bring me Kneader’s French Toast at mile 16.5 (below image of what this french toast looks like)?

IMG 1886

PS I’ve been trying to find local races to jump into as part of training and I came across this one.  Would you ever run this Utah January 5K and then jump into ice water?  You couldn’t pay me to do it but Andrew said he would go for it.

Just another reminder that I have a new Skye update here!

————————————————————————————————————

Have you ever done something on your birthday exercise-wise that goes along with the year you are turning?

-I think I did pushups on my knees one year to go along with my new age so this is definitely different for me.

The real question is… What other foods do I take along the way for a birthday 33 miler?

What did you listen to during your last run?  Your feet, music, podcast, friends?

Tell me about your workout today!

I ran a marathon on my 30th birthday! I turned 33 in September and I think I ran 3 miles? So not quite what you are attempting lol. I think you are just doing this so you can eat an entire birthday cake to yourself and I am jealous.

Reply

Oh that is so cool that you did a marathon on your 30th! Hahaha you know me too well:). I hope you have a great day Sara!

Reply

If you’re going to run 30, anyway, I say go for it! We all have our own levels of crazy, so why not just embrace this one? :)

I didn’t really listen to anything this morning on my run (unless maybe I should count my own thoughts??). I was seriously in my own little world and completely zoned out. Ha!

Hope that you have a great day, Janae!

Reply

Oh I love when that happens on a run… just so deep in thoughts! Hahah good call… time to embrace the craziness. Thanks Natalie, you too!

I did an ultra race on a 3.25 mile hilly trail loop. For the race you run as many loops as you can in 12 hours – (the race is appropriately called the Dizzy Goat)! I was trying to get 13 loops (42.25 miles) because I was turning 42 that year. But I didn’t finish the last loop before the cut off time so I only got to count 12 laps officially or 39 miles.

Reply

Okay, 39 miles on a 3.25 mile loop… THAT is incredible Jo! WOW. I’m dizzy just thinking about that ha:). Have a great day!

33 miles on your 33rd birthday MAKES SO MUCH SENSE!!!! Too bad I’m not made of stretchy material like Gumby, or I would stretch my Gumby arms out to Utah and give you french toast in the middle of your run. ;)

To be REALLY HONEST, I’ve been slacking hardcore on my running lately. I have my 10K this saturday, and it will likely be more than a little bit of a struggle bus. But the truth is that I work so much (for now, to barely pay bills, I work FOUR jobs…I’m working my way through some big changes, but they will come in time…) that I am exhausted. And my body feels like it needs rest more than I can really put into words. So I have been–as imperfect as it may be–trusting my cross-training and trusting the way my body has felt on the runs I have taken and I am getting ready to have an easy run in Florida on Saturday. We’ll see. And I will make sure my iPod is full of only the songs I really, really, REALLY love to listen to when I am all laced up and ready to hit foot to pavement.

That graphic with 5 AM–that sounds like a conversation between me and Tom when he asks me what time my alarm is set for. And that “find your happy pace” bag–we had one at the running store, and my manager knowing what a Brooks devotee I am gave it to me. It’s now my bag that carries my head set, spin shoes, spare batteries, and tune belt for teaching spin classes.
I love that bag!!!

Hope you all have a good day out there! :)

Reply

Four jobs… I don’t know how you fit in ANY time to run Stephanie. I’m cheering you on for Saturday and I love the way you are going into it. Go enjoy some sunshine for me and enjoy those songs. It’s the best bag:). Thanks Stephanie, you too.

Reply

I do not get nearly enough sleep, to be honest! Four jobs is really hard–but when you have bills to pay you figure out how you can get them all done in a way that lets you include what you love (for me, teaching)–and you adapt to what your university does or does not give you by way of work by supplementing. It’s not easy (it’s a bit stressful), but I think I am starting to figure out the right balance of letting people know “this is what I have to do right now” without sounding like you’re asking for a pity party or jumping abouard the “woe is me” express train to sob-story-ville…

SUNSHINE…we’ve had a good deal of grey lately in Atlanta, so I will be REALLY HAPPY for sunshiney Florida this weekend!

ALSO–I need to get to Costco soon. Your post reminded me. And now I am going to add to my list of “hopes and dreams” kodiak cake samples!!!!

Running 33 miles for your 33rd birthday would be awesome! I usually swim my agex200m or 150m on my birthday (getting older so I now usually do 150m haha). Maybe if you are worried about the slight increase in mileage, you could make it 33miles by foot and hike an extra 3 miles since your ultra will probably involve a lot of hiking-ish stuff.

Reply

Oh that is a great idea… thanks Victoria! And maybe you should come join me and we could stop at different delicious food establishments along the way!

Reply

I think you’d be crazy NOT to run 33 miles. Maybe a nap and all the treats afterwards as a reward?

Reply

I love that plan… thanks Carrie! I’m totally going to do that. Have a wonderful day Carrie.

Reply

I’m running a 10-mile race on my birthday weekend this year! I’m sooooo excited. It’s so fun to mark those days with something special. I say go for it, and have your favorite cake waiting!

Reply

OH I love this… have the best time! Such a great way to celebrate. Thanks Kristin, have a beautiful day.

Reply

You totally should do the long run for your birthday if that’s what makes your day special.
I do a birthday run every year but not necessarily based on my age.

Reply

Thanks Angie… I think I’m going to go for it! Running on your birthday is the best:). Have a beautiful day.

Reply

I would so love to run a mile for each year on my birthday but I am getting too old. At my gym we do a pullup for each year and that will be plenty. ;-)

Reply

A PULLUP FOR EACH YEAR… okay, that is incredible! I can’t even do ONE! Way to go Jackie.

Reply

My group of friends and I usually plan some kind of event for birthdays, for example we did 40 hills for one 40th, 40 sprints for another, and a 25k for a 25th birthday. After said activity we always sit down for cake!! I love celebrating birthdays in this way ?
If I lived closer, I would jump in on a portion of that long run. You got this!

Reply

Oh I love that you guys do that… such a fun thing to do together. Just in case you are visiting Utah next month, just come with me! Thanks Katrina!

Reply

P.S. My high school self would be so baffled and impressed by how I now happily get up at 6 am, when that time was SO HARD in high school!

Reply

Hahaha right?!?!?!

Reply

6 x 5 minutes with 1 min recovery! Sounds interesting, I might just have to try this myself! How do you choose your “steady strong pace?!” Did you mess around with it for a few before you decided what pace was good for you? Also how the heck is your Garmin and treadmill running accurate? Help me! I have the Garmin 235 and they are sooo off when I do treadmill runs ?

Reply

Hey Jessica!! TRY THE WORKOUT. It’s a great one:). I started at a pace that I felt would be pretty steady/not too hard for me and then from there got faster with each one. I really miss having a coach tell me my exact paces but until I work with Mary again, I’ll just keep guessing and then adjusting accordingly. Did your 235 allow you to calibrate it after your first treadmill run with it? Mine did and I think that is what helps it to be so close!

Reply

I think running 33 miles on your 33rd birthday is a great idea!! Although running 33 miles seems really hard! But you should totally do it ?. And, I would love to come run parts with you or bring you french toast!
I can’t wait to listen to the Man Bun Run podcast! He posted it on IG yesterday and I new what I’d be listening to for one run this week. Today may be speed on the treadmill, so I need music for that, but tomorrow is a 9 mile run, so the podcast will be perfect!
Happy Tuesday!

Reply

Oh I hope you like the episode tomorrow and great job on your speed workout. Thanks so much Wendy and I hope your day is a great one.

Reply

You should totally do the birthday run! How fun!!! I can’t think of a better way to celebrate another year!! :)

Also Brooke’s hair is SO cute in those braids!! I love her long hair!

Have a great Tuesday Janae!!

Reply

AGREED… why wouldn’t we want to spend the entire day running on our birthday:). Her hair grows so fast (and I’m kind of jealous ha). Thanks Chelsea, you too!

Reply

I ran 30 on my 30th; it didn’t feel the greatest, but I felt so proud after I finished (my husband joined me for the final 4 and he wanted to have stop breaks…I had to laugh about that). I later ran my first trail ultra of 32 miles and thought back to the day I ran 30 and couldn’t believe the difference training made in how you felt running longer distances. You are going to do great on your 50 miler. You are going to fall in love with ultra running for different reasons than road running that will have you wanting to go back and do more. I hope to get into ultra running when my youngest isn’t nursing anymore.

Reply

You must have felt pretty strong when your husband was asking for breaks and you had already gone 26+ MILES. That is so cool how you noticed that huge difference on race day vs training. YES YES YES… you will get back to ultra running again. Thanks Danielle, share any tips you can think of along the way for us!

Reply

I don’t do an age-specific exercise on my birthday, but I always work out … and then I go to all the shops and restaurants that give you free things on your birthday. Sephora, Starbucks, Ulta, Coldstone, Panera.

Reply

I love the way you celebrate and I’m going to have to look up what all of those stores do for birthdays… I LOVE FREE THINGS:). Have a great day Kerri.

Reply

I usually either take my birthday as a rest day, or I do any kind of run that sounds fun on my birthday and ignore my training for the day.

If it’s not too cold outside I’d run part of that with you. Probably only like 3 miles and slow…but that all depends on how cold it is haha ;)

Reply

COME JOIN ME!!!!!! I’m really hoping it doesn’t snow that day but if it does that will sure add a fun challenge ha. Have some hot chocolate today Jenny!

Reply

I did my first (and so far only) marathon on my 42nd birthday. 42K ! It was the detail that pushed me into signing up for it at all, that it was 42 on 42.

Reply

Lisa, that is SO cool! I love that you did that on your birthday… best way to celebrate. Have a great day.

Reply

I ran 4.0 miles when I turned 40. Lol
That French toast looks amazing.

My last run was on a treadmill but I did listen to COLD. So scary, creepy and my husband doesn’t get why anyone would listen to a scary podcast while running. It keeps me so focused the miles flew by. ??

Hope you have a great day! I’m going to get some miles in this afternoon. Hopefully….

Reply

We need to have a discussion board on this podcast… have you gotten to the Josh Powell’s father’s SONGS that he wrote and sang yet? They gave me the creepiest chills. I’m with you… the miles go by so quickly when I’m listening to scary podcasts. Thanks Lauren and enjoy those miles later on.

Reply

You could temporarily pretend you are Canadian and run 33km on your birthday instead of 33 miles! Lol I listened to your podcast with Andrew last night and it was so much fun! It is so great that you are doing this together! I will be doing my speed intervals on the treadmill gym at 6am next Saturday before I spend all day at a conference. Am I part of the crazy club? Haha

Reply

That is VERY true haha! Oh I’m so glad you listened! You are absolutely part of the crazy club:). Have a wonderful day Mel!!

Reply

I don’t think you are crazy. And I don’t know why I suddenly have this philosophical outlook on your 33 mile idea. But here goes :) I might ask myself a bunch of questions: will running 33 miles on my birthday make me happy, will the anticipation of it make me happy (i think the anticipation and planning might be the funnest part!), will the planning be worth it, do i think i want to run 33 miles for 33 years because i’ve heard of people doing this and it sounded like FUN? or do i want to do it because of this insane internet world?

And then a thought from me – it is kind of coincidental that you HAPPEN to be training for an ultra that calls for a 30 mile long run (close enough to 33) AND if you were ever intrigued or had wanted to run your birthdage age in miles then (although you are still young! ha) this might be the last year you would want to do that since the number increases by one each year :)

So timing wise, it might be the perfect year to do it. And if you can get lots of support people then it WOULD be fun (um and loonggg. ha!). I don’t doubt tons of your friends, family members, would run alongside you for several of the miles.

In summary, you should do what makes you happy :)

Reply

It really is kind of crazy that the 30 mile training run falls on the same week! Those are the perfect questions to ask… and when I asked myself it made my heart beat fast thinking about it and excited for the challenge. I think that means I WANT it:). Thanks Amanda! I hope your Tuesday is a beautiful one.

Reply

I think you should do 33 on your birthday even if you have to break it up during the day. Since it is your birthday, I really think friends and family can chip in with babysitting and giving you time to relax and recover on your birthday. That is my opinion!!! Maybe instead of gifts you ask for a little bit of their time??? Or if you do it the day before you B-day gift is time to relax and recover!!
I listened to Gratefulgirlz podcast, but am an Ali on the Run fan! I am also watching suits while I am on the treadmill or some piece of equipment. I was so excited that I found something to binge watch while working out and then I hit season 2 and I am getting bored….

Reply

Ohhhhh I really really really love that idea. Thank you Carrie, sounds perfect to me. I have never heard of the Gratefulgirlz podcast, time to look it up. NOOOOO I hope another show pops up that makes you excited again. Have a wonderful day!

Reply

Brooke’s surprised face is the best! I love love love your birthday idea! We ran a segment of our buddy’s 40 mile run for his 40th birthday. I’ve done runs like that for my bday before, but they are always done in KM instead of miles!

I listened to friends and my hard breathing on my last run. Ha. We had a 7 mile run this morning (in the dark!) with 10 – 1 min. sprints built in. I would definitely not have done that outside by myself!

Reply

Oh so cool he did 40 on his 40th! Way to go getting out there for that hard workout, it’s amazing how motivating it is when we have friends to meet to do it together. Thanks Marissa and I hope you have a great day!

Reply

My girlfriend runs her age in miles every year. I actually look forward to her post on her birthday. She just did 38mi last week! She def breaks it up with friends, dogs and stops at her house to refuel. Then she celebrates with sushi later that night. You could totally do it! I, on the other hand just am not that motivated! lol.

Reply

WOW!! I need to talk to her. Such a good idea and I think I might copy her with the sushi at night too . Have a wonderful day and thanks for sharing (ps I think you could do it:).

Reply

Having never run more than 13.1 miles at one time, I decided to run 30 miles on my 30th birthday. And my amazing sister agreed to join me. Without any training she made it 25 miles and I completed the whole run. We hid water along the route but definitely did not anticipate the amount of fluids or food we would need. Later that evening my sister had a party at her house. I think I made it 2 hours then went to bed while the party continued. It was one of my best birthdays ever!

Reply

OH MY GOODNESS. Katherine, this is so awesome and you have an incredible sister. Thanks for sharing this with me and what a huge accomplishment! Good to know about thinking about planning to bring more food/water than I would think. Have a beautiful day.

Reply

Last year I turned 30 and on my birthday I ran 30 miles. I divided it up into five 6 mile increments and got my mom, 2 best friends and husband to each run a leg with me and I ran the last 6 miles by myself. I loved it!!

Reply

YOU DID!! Oh I love this so so much… so so cool. I love that your mom did a leg with you too:) . That makes me happy. Have a wonderful day Whitney. I can’t wait to do this and you are inspiring me.

Reply

That is quite a goal for you birthday! You’ve totally got it, though. And SO much cake & ice cream when you finish :) @barleshambone / Sarah does birthday mileage every year, I think.
I made up a birthday workout using dumbbells, pullups, barbell, and squats with running between each movement for my 50th. I would have to train for a full year to run my age distance, LOL!
On my last run, I listened to the muffled “sound” of snow. I love how quiet it is when we get a blanket of snow.
I’m glad I was already eating lunch when I saw that picture of the french toast!

Reply

Yes I think she does and I think even sometimes all on the treadmill!!! Oh I love that you did that for your 50th, so cool. Oh that sound while running… so peaceful and calm. Have a beautiful day Corey.

Reply

The podcast I listened to while running last night was the one YOU and Andrew did on Man Bun Run! It was so fun to hear you guys talk about your training. Props to you on your goal! It makes me tired thinking about all that training!
That french toast IS amazing! I love Kneaders!

Reply

Oh I am so glad we could join you on your run last night:) . Thank you so much and I hope you get that french toast asap… and that SYRUP. Have a beautiful day!

Reply

I’m currently reading a book that I think you would enjoy! It’s all about female athletes, our physiology, and how it impacts our training. Here’s a link: https://www.amazon.com/ROAR-Fitness-Physiology-Optimum-Performance/dp/1623366860

I’m about halfway through and LOVE it. There are some really interesting pieces about training while pregnant, too!

Reply

I’ve had this book and haven’t started yet… thank you for inspiring me. STARTING TODAY! Thanks so much for sharing Chelsea, have a beautiful day!

Reply

I turn 55 this year, so I think my years of running my age are behind me!

I listened to Les while we ran this morning. He had a shoe analysis done a few months ago and has been running happy since. I’m a neutral running so I had no idea how much his pronation was hurting him.

Loved your Skye update – she’s such a cutie!

Reply

I love that you ran with Les and I’m so glad he had a shoe analysis and he is feeling so much better. Thanks Kathy:). Have a beautiful day!

Reply

You brave woman! But if you’ve got to do the miles, matching them to your bday is pretty cool. :) I’m all about watching “Killing the Fat Man” while I’m on the treadmill lately. Not a fan of the language, but crossfit fascinates me and I love watching how it transforms people (mentally and physically). Not sure I could ever do it, but it’s cool to watch other people do it! ?

Brooke’s expression in that pic! She’s killing me. Also, love your lip gloss in that same pic! Very pretty on you. What shade? (It’s not your typical.)

Reply

YOU ARE GOOD!! I tired a different kind of Victoria Secret lip gloss haha… this one is called Plumstruck! I’m going to keep using it now:). I’m totally going to check that show out… thank you!

Reply

I like it! It’s a great shade on you!

Reply

Yesssssss you should totally do 33 miles on your birthday!!! I have always wanted to do that but between various injuries and getting older, I don’t know if I will get to do it. And if it’s part of your ultra training, then it seems like the stars have aligned haha.
At my Crossfit gym we do “birthday burpees”, so one burpee for every year and that is quite the challenge too.
I haven’t been listening to anything lately – I run outside and don’t like the distraction. But on the treadmill its usually a playlist. I have been enjoying the Training for Ultra podcast on my long drives for work lately though. I haven’t gotten to your episode yet but I am sure looking forward to it!
Have a great day!

Reply

The stars really are aligned:). Okay, birthday burpees sound harder to me haha!! That is such a great podcast, keep enjoying. Thanks Laura, you too!

Reply

I think it’s kind of a cool idea to run 33 miles on your 33rd birthday!

I”m the queen of making workout playlists on Spotify. I last listened to an old school hip hop playlist with NWA, Ice Cube, Dr Dre, Run DMC, The Notorious BIG, Naughty by Nature, and 2 Pac.

Reply

I NEED TO HAVE THAT PLAYLIST… some of my favorites:). Have a wonderful day Fiona!

Reply

I love the idea of running birthday miles! I ran 22 miles on my 22nd birthday (and that was the first and last time I did so haha) but I absolutely loved it! It felt like such a good way to celebrate another year of being alive and being able to do what I love!

Reply

Oh I love that you did that… you are so right, it’s the best way to celebrate another year of LIFE. Have a beautiful day Jordan and thanks for sharing.

Reply

When I turned 55 I ran a half marathon on my birthday and ran a 1:55…..HA The half marathon on my 55th Birthday was planned but running a 1:55….not exactly:-)

Reply

There is nothing better than getting a good run in on your birthday! So, I say go for the 33 miles!! For my workout today, I was able to get in 12 miles before work. I ran 8 outside (at a slower pace because of the freezing rain) then saw they called a two-hour delay for school (I’m a teacher) so I went home and ran 4 more on the treadmill. It felt so good to get that many miles in before starting my workday! When I ran outside, I ran the first 4 with a friend then for the next 4, I just ran and didn’t listen to anything. On the treadmill, I always watch The Pioneer Woman. :)

Can’t wait to listen to your podcast!!

Reply

My dear friend Michael did 41 skydives to celebrate his 40th birthday – one to grow on. This after becoming the first person to skydive all 7 continents, and nearly dying in the attempt. (No joke – watch the video).

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HSuNau-5bhk&t=9s

He’s still an active skydiver but (unrelated) injuries and illnesses are taking their toll.

Reply

I run on my birthday, but not my age exactly. This year I turn 34, so I will run 3.4 miles on my birthday then 34 miles that week.

You should take some birthday cake on your run, ha!!

Reply

I did a 5k a few years ago on my birthday. My ironman watch I had at the time flashed a little birthday cake when I went to set the gps lol :)

Just 3 miles tonight, building the base up for 1/2 training next month. Have a great day !

Reply

You’ve gone insane and it’s great. Have fun and don’t hurt yourself! And good luck walking the next day haha. Maybe you can bring some cake to eat along the way?

My last run was about 70% silence, 20% podcast and 10% music! That’s normally how it goes for me.

Reply

You should definitely do the 33 miles! I run my birthday age every year too. This year I lucked out, my birthday falls on a Saturday so I’ll be able to do an actual event to get my mileage

Reply

YES run your age on your birthday!!! As my dad aged, he would run his age but with a decimal – so 6.7, 6.8, etc and now he can’t run but we walked 7.0 miles on his latest birthday :)
For my workout today, I ran 3 min normal pace x 4 min race pace for 30 minutes. I haven’t done speed in quite a while and it was FUN! I listened to my upbeat running playlist to help me run faster :)

Reply

I think the stars are aligned for you to run your birthday this year! I turn 44 a few days before and I think I’ll run 8 (4+4) which is a good long run for me right now. And the Man Bun Run podcast with you and Andrew was great, fun to hear both of you together!

Reply

33 miles on your 33rd sounds insane (to me who doesn’t run!) It sounds like something right up your alley, and then you can eat ALL the French toast! My daughter has her Capstone starting in March in the mental health unit. Crazy how fast Andrew’s schooling went too! I bet he ready to be done.

Reply

Oooh yes, you should definitely run your birthday mileage! I did 37 for my 37th birthday last year. Although I split it into a 20 miler in the morning and then 17 in the afternoon. It pretty much took up my whole day, but now I can say I at least did it one year!

Reply

Oh, yes, mussel and kombu soup for birthdays! You’ll be like, “Give me all the micronutrients, I just ran 33 miles! Chomp, chomp, slurp.” Go and get the ingredients now and line them up in the pantry – and fridge. You’ll be all set and your body will thank you!

Reply

In the (one) ultra I have done I loved chips, pretzels and Coke (you don’t drink soda right?). I guess I wanted all the salt and sugar. Uncrustables are also awesome.

You should totally do 33 miles, sounds like fun!

I would love to do that for my birthday but we will be in Germany for the Berlin Marathon.

Reply

I turn 50 this year and am planning on running a 50k. Trail race to celebrate each and every one of those years.
Watching your journey is inspiring. Thank you for your insight.

Reply

I think it’s a great idea Janae! When I turned 30 in October last year I did a “birthday triathlon” to make myself feel happy about turning 30 rather than feeling old ;) I did a 30km run, 30km bike ride and 30 laps in the 50m pool, and it was so much fun!!! So I can definitely recommend it! Although I guess I’m lucky we use KM instead of Miles over here ;)

Reply

I call the last five! Or the slowest 5! ?

Reply

I live in Oakland, but work in SF. To switch things up, I did my run after work (I’m a morning gal!!) along the Embarcadero in SF. I never run in SF! It was POURING but so beautiful and fun to see other crazy ppl aka runners out there tonight. I was supposed to do 5 today but only did 4, and I’m proud of myself.

PS I started the Cold podcast on Sunday for my long run (9 miles). I am now 4 episodes in. Soooooo creepy!!!!

Reply

you should TOTALLY do the 33 miles for your 33rd birthday thing! it’s not that crazy, really.
for a couple of birthdays and mother’s days I told my husband all I wanted was a long run with/ without him (with him was before kids, or we would drop them off) followed by some good Japanese food. NOTHING BEATS THAT

Reply

Just have a question because it makes me consider my own choices… what is it about the very early morning that makes you worried about running alone? I run around 430 am or 5 usually and it is dark but I bring mace with me and definitely no headphones so I’m as alert as I can be. Do you think this is a bad idea? I feel like so many do it and then others feel it is
Too dangerous. I’m curious what you think.

Love the idea!

I ran my 6th, 26.2, two days after my 26th birthday. Weird, right? lol. I saw a race nearby the Saturday after my bday and I just HAD to do it. Stormed the entire time but totally worth it.

Workout today will be something easy! I did a speed workout yesterday. 10 miles at a 7:26ish average. These legs are tired today!

I think it would be so fun….for you! I haven’t ever done my birthday in miles and probably never will. So I will just cheer you on, bring you food and run 5 of those miles with you if you’ll let me ;) I can’t think of a more fitting way to spend your birthday.

Definitely a crazy idea, but the good kind of crazy. I am turning 38 this year and I love this idea, and while I don’t think running 38 miles is a good fit for me I am thinking a combo run/bike could be a fun alternative. Have a great day!
