Silentish Saturday the 49285th Edition.

The front tooth of hers is sure coming in nicely.

Brooke slept on the floor next to me (I was worried about her breathing during the night) and I think Beretta could sense that she wasn’t feeling well.

Heading to the gym today! I ran my 5th half marathon Thursday, and I finally signed up for a full marathon!!! It is in March, and I’ve been scouring your blog for all things marathon. I have been reading for about 6-7 years now, and you inspire me so much! My friend also signed up, and we both love you and your blog! Have a great weekend!!

Today is our Friendsgiving so we’re cooking and hosting. My husband is actually doing most of the cooking. I do the regular, healthy Monday through Friday cooking and he does special occasion stuff. People often comment that it must be nice to have a husband who does all the cooking and I laugh. Like…it would be I guess? I love what he cooks but it all is a bit more complicated and less healthy than would work most days;-) But he loves what I make on a regular day and I love his special occasion food so it all works out.

FRIENDSGIVING… I want to come! This sounds like so much fun! Hahah it’s nice for me… Andrew does 99% of the cooking! You guys have an awesome schedule:) ENJOY your time with your friends tonight!

Dang good for Andrew for taking your nephew out! Black Friday is no joke. I had to work at the running store for an 8 hour shift yesterday, and though a running store is more of a ‘specialty’ sort of thing that doesn’t attract every ol’ goober out there in the world, our store was pretty nuts. There was no break…a constant, steady stream of people. Tom worked at his store (he works part-time at Best Buy), and his shift was about as long as mine. We both got home SO EXHAUSTED and our whole bodies hurting. I had hoped to get some paper grading done yesterday (I am so behind!), but we both kept on laughing at each other because we were in SUCH brain fogs! SOMEHOW though I managed to get a blog post up. I fear it isn’t anything like the writing I CAN do, but I talked about my 5K from Thanksgiving morning and showed some big time love for some of my favorite running gear. :)

Today: I am teaching my Body Flow class in about 35 minutes, and in the afternoon I am covering a work shift at the store for one of my coworkers who has been incommunicado all week, so my bosses had no idea if he would even come today (and a weekend like this–everyone out in a busy outdoors mall with lots of foot-traffic and a ton of people wanting every possible deal–you can’t just “skate by” with one or two less people). And tonight, I need to grade SOME stack of papers.

On another note, Tom had a coupon on air fryers from Best Buy (sometimes employees get coupons for deep discounts on popular products…it’s how we got our robot vacuum!!!), and so far we love it! Check out the GOURMIA brand that they sell at Best Buy–apparently it’s better than the “bella” brand at Macy’s (and the price points are relatively equal). I think we will be using this thing a lot. I tried a package of the cauliflower gnocchi yesterday night and it was so good.

CONGRATS ON YOUR THANKSGIVING 5k… you have rocked 2018 with your goals.
Oh I bet your store was crazy… at least you could both empathize with each other after surviving those shifts! I hope your shift today goes well! I need one of those… ASAP!

Looks like Brooke is fighting croup like a champion. Sending good vibes your way! My son’s birthday party is this afternoon. Can’t believe he is turning 9 in a few days! I love being the kind and beautiful little man he is becoming … but some days I miss my baby :-)

Reply

NINE?!?! How does it all go by so so fast! Enjoy celebrating him and thank you for the good vibes!

Snow is coming! We need it so I’m trying to stay positive that it’s that cold. But really, we’ve had a really nice fall. So I’m really ok with it mostly.

We have our second thanksgiving today, I made pie and potatoes. I’m going to sneak in a little run before hand sometime.

Glad Brooke is handling croup as well as you can!

Reply

It sure is beautiful outside right now! ENJOY round 2 and stay warm on your run!

Reply

To help with her croup run the shower on hot and close yourselves in the bathroom so she can breathe in the steam. It helps loosen everything up. Poor little love! Hope she feels better quickly!

Reply

You are 100% right… that helped so so much! THANK YOU LAINA!

Reply

So glad Brooke is feeling better! Sending healing vibes for continued wellness! (and that noone else gets sick!)

Last night I cleaned the pantry-no small feat-so today I went to the sort facility with all the cardboard/plastic/garbage!
Run
Procrastinate

Oh I wanted to give you a tip that I found helpful while I trained for an ultra. Practice sooner than later with a hydration vest. Why now before the really long runs? Because it’s nice to feel how the vest is at different levels of capacity-testing out the bounce factor when the bladder and pockets aren’t as full. Also, it preps your body for carrying one. This is, of course, assuming you’ll be using a hydration vest! The more you become one with the vest, the easier it is on race day.

Thank you so much Kelly! Somehow nobody else has caught it so we are very lucky! THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU for that tip… that is just what I need to start doing. Ours should be getting here soon and I’ll start right away. Thanks Kelly and great job on going through the pantry… I bet it feels so nice now!

Today is mostly work and errands for me. I wanted to get a run in today but it wasn’t in the cards… I noticed some very mild pain in my shins the past couple days, especially on the left, and today I tried a walk/run hoping it was just in my head but there’s definitely a little something going on in my left shin. It’s not sharp but it’s something. I’m frustrated because the marathon I’m hopeful to run is 3 weeks from today :( I’m going to take a couple more days off and really really hope it feels back to normal soon.

Reply

BOOOO TO YOUR LEFT SHIN. Could this be the phantom pains during the taper? This always happens to me. Honestly, taking a few days off to rest will not hurt you on race day! Giving yourself some extra rest, care and recovery will HELP YOU and that shin is going to mend right up. Please keep me updated!

Reply

Yesterday it felt like maybe just phantom pains but now I think it’s early stage shin splints. The pain is faint and moves around my lower leg, so I don’t think it’s a stress fracture or anything serious. But still frustrating of course. I’m just praying that it clears up with a week or two of resting so I can still be ready for the race. I had been hoping to get in one more long run, but it looks like my taper has officially started whether I like it or not!

Good on Andrew your taking out your nephew! He looks like it meant a lot to him ❤️.

I did some strength with kettlebells, joint mobility work, and DH made brunch for us!! All before 11 Am!

Reply

It really did… he wanted to go up and down every aisle. They had a blast together! Way to go on your morning and I hope the rest of your day is great too!

Reply

1) early run (great meet up with friend I don’t often see, not great actual run) (hoping for a second run here soon with hubby)
2) leftover pie for breakfast
3) grocery store (*sigh*)

Reply

Isn’t it the best when we get to combine our physical and social health in one morning with a great run. So glad you were able to get together and I hope your second run feels better!I need to join you in the pie for breakfast thing and good luck at the store!

Aww Skye is such a sugar muffin! I need my baby fix!!
Poor Brooke hope she gets to her 100 percent self. I have a daughter on the mend too. You’re amazing for keeping up with running on lack of sleep! I’m in hibernating mode from running and will get back next week.
I think a movie is in order today and Christmas decorating.

Reply

Amazing… mmmm probably just need it for my sanity more than anything. KEEP HIBERNATING and enjoy your running next week! I hope she is feeling 100% soon and enjoy the movie and decorating! Thanks Christina!

I already worked out on my elliptigo( set up indoors), met up with friends for our weekly coffee date, and then took my dog for a long hike. I am wearing my “ready to rulus” pants today and I am thinking of you because I know your love of them also? I hope Brooke continues to get on the mend. Happy Saturday!

Reply

Oh thank you so much Amanda!! Seriously… the best comfy pants out there. So so cool that your elliptigo is set up inside. Have a wonderful rest of your weekend!

Started the day walking the dog before the rain settled in.
I’m making original Chex mix today. The bag version is good, but homemade is extra great, especially warm. The house smells yummy!
Planning to settle down with a new book: The Fever, by Megan Abbott (hope it’s a good one).

Hope you have a great day and can cozy up with more leftovers and movies!

Reply

I’m so with you… the bag is good but it has nothing on homemade! Let me know if you like it and if you do I’ll grab it too:) Thank you so much!

I’m sorry Brooke has been sick, that is the worst. I’m sure you already know this trick but when my kids have congestion in their lungs I lather their feet with Vick’s right before they go to bed and cover them with socks. It helps so much! A nurse practioner was actually the one who told me about the Vick’s thing when my oldest was a toddler. I use it all the time now :). I also diffuse breathe (DoTerra) in their rooms when they have congestion and that seems to help too (of course, I would recommend doing your own research on oils before using them). I hope Brooke is feeling 100% in no time and that your other kiddos don’t get sick.

3 things today-
Park, store (almost out of baby wipes!), and hopefully a family walk. I’ve gotten so out of shape and am overwhelmed by the idea of getting healthy. I want to set a better example for my kiddos, I just have to take it day by day and not give up. Thank you for inspiring me to keep trying.

Reply

I didn’t even think about Vick’s and that is an awesome tip… I’ll use it tonight. Thank you SO much!!! So far the other two are still healthy and I really hope it stays that way. A walk is the perfect way to get back into shape and doing it with family = perfection. Check in with me on how you are doing… I’m cheering for you Joy!

1. Went for a run and it was cold! No more shorts weather!
2. Decorating the Christmas tree – picked up a live tree – table top size because we are in a condo. It is close enough to December for me :)
3. First Christmas party of the Season tonight.

I hope Brooke feels better soon and happy running to you!
