Making and KEEPING the Important Memories!

Good morning, I hope you get in a great run today along with some kind of self-care (I’ll be taking some time to read on my window seat during nap-time)!  This post is sponsored by KODAK Digitizing Box!

———————————————————————————————–

Our new house has more storage area than our last house.  Our move inspired both my mom and Andrew’s mom to do the exact same thing just days apart from each other (they must have planned this;).  They both returned to us all of the stuff we have been storing at their houses over the years ha!   Let me know if you would like me to model my high school prom dresses.  Below are some of Andrew’s storage boxes that we have been going through.  Our garage is full of boxes from my mom’s house.  I think both of our moms are happy to have passed on all of the stuff we have been collecting since we were five and free up some space at their houses.

Within these boxes are thousands of pictures from our growing up years.  Even before blogging, I was that person that always had a camera with me taking pictures of everything.  I pretty much have every day during my high school years completely documented with pictures and it’s been awesome to go through them.  It’s been really fun seeing Andrew’s photos and keepsakes and learning more about him and the things that have been important to him over the years.

Skye really enjoyed going through all of the pictures and even tried to eat a few of them because she thought they were so great.

We have zero digital copies of all of these pictures and videocassette tapes so we used KODAK Digitizing Box to preserve all of these moments.  Having digital copies of all of these memories helps so they don’t just get tucked away in storage for decades again or get destroyed or misplaced somehow.

Remember Kodak’s yellow envelope back in the day?  I love the KODAK Digitizing Box modern version now:

With the new KODAK Digitizing Box you can convert your videotapes, camcorder tapes, old film reels, photo prints and slides to digital copies!

Junior year Andrew!  I always wonder if we would have dated if we went to high school together.  Any high school sweethearts out there?

IMG 5667

PS this was me when I was 6… I don’t really think we look that similar but Brooke sure looks like my nieces when they were her age.

Andrew teases me because instruction manuals are not my thing.  I give up easily when they are difficult (my perseverance with running needs to translate into other areas of my life too) but the KODAK Digitizing Box instructions are so easy to follow.  Each box comes with a welcome guide with very easy step-by-step instructions, safety barcodes for every item, a pre-paid return shipping label, and access to a personal concierge to answer any questions.

All you have to do is fill your KODAK Digitizing Box with any of the 19 types (you can mix and match) of media available for conversion to digital and send it in!  <— It is that easy.

Andrew was so happy to find this picture and convert it into a digital copy of his brother coming home from serving our country in Iraq.  Such an important memory for us to have and share with all of our family members.

IMG 5682

Once you send your KODAK Digitizing Box in they send you personalized updates at every step along the way.  Everything is tracked so well with barcodes and allows you to keep track of all of your things perfectly so you don’t have to worry.

A few weeks later you get all of your originals back along with new digital drives, cloud files or DVDs.  They also send you your digital files through your email so you can access them quickly!

It was like Christmas morning going through each of the digital copies (the quality is awesome) and having them safe and sound on my computer.  Below I am with my Mer and Grandad.  This picture is so special to me.  We lost my grandpa 16 years ago and having all of these photos with him safe and sound is so important.  He was a big time runner and coached track and cross country for decades, I know he was there at St. George cheering me on to that sub 3.

I love being able to send these pictures that I found of Grandad to Mer so easily through text and email.  Our families were all so happy to have access to these memories now too!

My husband and I started dating when I was 16 and he was 18. We went to different high schools but worked together at McDonalds! We have been together for 32 years, married for 23! I love going through our old pictures, and our kids do too!

No way! Oh this is the coolest! Congrats on a beautiful 32 years of being together and 23 years of marriage! Have a beautiful day:)

My fiance and I started dating our senior year of high school, and its been almost 8 years now :)

This would be such a great Christmas gift for my dad! He has boxes and boxes of photos from family vacations and what not.

My husband and I met in high school, but we attended different districts. On our first date, he didn’t even have his driver’s license yet, so I drove! HAHA We have been married for almost 10 years, together for almost 17! I look at our wedding pictures and we were just babies.

Reply

This would be amazing for your dad! This makes me so so happy… 10 years of marriage and 17 years together:) Congrats and I bet it is so fun to talk about that first date together! Have a wonderful day Kaelin!

That sounds so cool! I need to look into this.
My first memory is when I was just under 2 and I was trying to chase/pet a goose at my great uncle’s house. My mom kept telling me to leave it alone, and I didn’t, and it bit me. I don’t remember much from being that young, but I do remember being pinched by that freakin goose!

Have a great day!

Reply

That is awesome you can remember so far back… a goose biting you is very memorable:) Hahah! Thanks Loribeth, you too.

Oh what a wonderful idea! That picture of Andrew and his brother is so awesome, and I’m so glad that he has a way to have it digital now.

My parents keep EVERYTHING, but I throw out as much as possible. I do keep pictures and notes/cards, though, because they’re so meaningful and bring back fond memories. I just don’t like to have a lot of “stuff” and junk cluttering up my life. I might need to try this KODAK Digitizing Box! Thanks for sharing it, Janae, and I hope that you have a wonderful Thursday!

Isn’t it great?! Try it out girl! Thank you, you too! I think we should both go grab some Menchies today:)

My husband and I met on our High Schools track time. I was a freshmen and he was a senior. We dated 10 years and have been married for 30. I still run but he does not. Earliest memory was preschool and that I did not like leaving my mom. Your new house is beautiful! Congratulations.

Reply

On the track team… oh this is so great. Congrats on 30 years of marriage, what a beautiful story and thank you for sharing. Have a great day!

My husband and I started dating when I was a junior and he was a senior. Been together 20 years total, married for 16.

Earliest memory is of the time I was 3 and going up our basement stairs – there is a door at the top that was closed, my mom opened it, having no idea I was on the other side, knocking me head over heels all the way down the unfinished wood stairs on to the concrete floor. I remember my parents being so upset, I was crying, and them asking me how old I was – and I remember holding up 3 fingers.

LOVE the Kodak box – I will be trying this out for sure.

Reply

Oh my goodness… that must have been super scary but I love that you even remember holding up your 3 little fingers:) Happy 20 years of being together… I LOVE hearing this! Let me know what you think, enjoy Amanda!

I was exactly the same way in high school. I kept a camera in my car and used it all the time. I did that until I had kids and got sick of carrying everything around. Thank heaven for smart phones!

My earliest memory is getting my kitchen set and a crying baby doll for Christmas. I remember my dad setting the kitchen up for me and then my grandparents coming over and I got the crying baby from them. That was when I was 3 and I still have both!

I love that you found that picture. When my grandma died almost two years ago I panicked because I couldn’t find any pictures of me and her together. I did eventually find some but I really wish I would have taken more with her.

Reply

Smart phones really make it so so easy to take a million pictures a day ha:) I love that you have those memories and I am so glad you found some pictures with your grandma. Have a wonderful day Jenny!

This is such a great idea!
My husband and I “dated” in middle school and then lost tough through most of high school. We reconnected our Senior year and have been together ever since. Together 27 years and married 17.

Reply

Middle school… no way! Thank goodness you reconnected. Happy 27 years of being together!

Reply

My husband was way cooler than I was in high school. We never would have dated! It’s best we met when we were 20/21!
And I love getting rid of things!!

Reply

Hahaha yeah, I don’t think Andrew would have dated me in high school either! Have a wonderful day Molly!

Reply

I think Brooke definitely looks like you at 6, just with lighter hair and a few more teeth. :)

My sisters both married their high school sweethearts after dating them for 8 years, so my brother in laws were already like my brothers long before the weddings. My parents went to different schools like yours, but they started dating their senior year of high school and got married at 20. I must have missed the memo bahhaa ;)

Reply

Really!? That makes me so happy. Haha I lost those front teeth early… I fell running on the sidewalk and knocked them out. Both sisters did… I love that! Hahah your graduating class must not have had many great options for you:) Have a wonderful day

I met my husband when I was 13 and we started dating at 14. Been together ever since, we are now 29 and 30 so it’s been 15 years!! We have a daughter who is almost 3. I think I know everything there is to know about him by now … lol. This mornings workout was a swim!! 750 m freestyle with 100 m breaststroke at the end.

Reply

No way… I LOVE your story Andrea! Thanks for sharing it with me:) Great workout this morning… motivate me to get swimming again, it is the best workout!

Do you know how this works if your old photos are in those old school albums with the clear plastic covering each page? Do you have to take them all out to send in? It’s such a great idea, but all of our old photos are in those old albums.

Reply

Hey Wendy, great question! All photos do need to be sent in loose-leaf so you would need to take them out of the album. But, the great thing is that if you do get them digitized, it will save up a ton of storage space from all of the albums and make it easier to have all of the memories with you safe in digital files! Have a wonderful day!

Reply

I love looking through old photos! I’m very lucky that both my mom’s dad and my dad were into photography so my brother and I have lots of photos from when we were kids. Having those photos means so much now that we don’t have any grandparents living.

I’m one of those people who hates clutter, so I typically get rid of things that I can’t use or don’t work anymore. I’d much rather keep memories than stuff.

Reply

Oh I LOVE that you get to have so many photos from when you were kids.
I’m right there with you on the clutter issues… it drives me bonkers. I’ve slowly trained Andrew to feel the same way;)

Reply

This is great! I’ve been slowly scanning all my dad’s old 35mm slides and it’s a long process. I’m going to use this instead and give it to him as a Christmas present.

Reply

Oh this is perfect for you and your dad! Enjoy! Have a wonderful day Samantha.

Reply

Oh wow ! I love this post. We have so many old photo’s. I did a thing once where I handed them over, but nothing was tracked and I was a nervous wreck. All ended well, but I have so much more to do. I like the sounds of this one. Thanks !

Reply

I would have been crazy nervous too. Yes, it is SO nice to be able to track them the entire process:) Have a wonderful day Michele!

Reply

I needed this service about 10 years ago! I personally digitized my family’s pictures. I ended up making CDs and books for everyone and they made great Christmas presents. Pictures of my great uncles from WW2 are some of my favorites.

My brother and his wife met in high school – they also went to different schools, but worked at A&W together. They’ve been married for 37 years.

I tend to hold on to things for a while, then I start purging! We’ve had evacuation warnings due to fires a couple of times and I’m pretty good at grabbing what really matters. I know the more things I can digitize the better!

Reply

Oh that is the best Christmas present ever, I’m sure your family is so thankful that you did that for them! Those warnings must have been so scary Kathy.
I hope you are having a beautiful day!

My husband and I started dating when we were 16 and got married this past June (at the age of 28). This upcoming January will mark 12 year of dating for us! :)

Reply

Congrats on your wedding this last summer! Happy almost 12 years of dating… I LOVE THAT! Have a wonderful day Sam!

I am a purger! I don’t have ANY photos hung in my house. I have a couple of photo albums :) I also don’t store anything except holiday/seasonal items. I read Marie Kondo’s the magic of tidying-up book and decided if it doesn’t have a visible place/use in my house, I really don’t need it. That came from living on the 3rd floor of my house while it was renovated. And all my “stuff” was in storage for 2 years. I can honestly say I did not miss ONE thing that was in storage. I read the book (randomly but it was so well-timed) right before I was to move into the rest of the house. When the moving/storage truck came to deliver all the stuff that had been in storage, I sent those college kids back with 99% of the truck. Ha! I am definitely in the minority but I just feel “lighter” (if that makes sense) with just the things I need and use and want to look at every day.

Reply

I really really need to read that book because it’s amazing the power of an organized space on humans! That totally makes sense to me. I hope you have a wonderful day Amanda!

My husband and I started dating our senior year but we went to different schools. We’ve been together now for 21 years and this month we will be married for 18 (we got married young at 20!).

I bet I still have a few boxes of stuff at my parent’s house too!

Happy 18th anniversary this month!! What a wonderful story!

Sadly my first memory is getting strapped down to an exam table to get stitches in my chin :( I think I was around 3? Ha I wish it was happier!

Workout = run with baby in the jogger. It was in the high 60s today (rare) so it was amazing!!

I HATE clutter so I can purge things pretty easily. My husband on the other hand…

Reply

Oh stitches for a first memory… ouch!

Running with a jogging stroller/baby = 10 times harder than running on your own:) SO glad the weather was so nice! Hahah isn’t it funny how opposite we are sometimes with our spouses? Have a wonderful evening!

Didn’t you do this with legacy?
