Friday Favorites + Croup!!

Today’s post is a bit short because Brookie has croup.  I’m so busy taking care of her (and part of this post I wrote the day before:) but here is how our Thanksgiving looked like.  I hope yours was a great one!

The morning started off with 9 miles @ 8:24 average pace.  When Brooke woke up she wasn’t feeling great but it didn’t get bad until the evening.

Knox and I went to visit Mer (she hurt her foot so she wasn’t able to come to Thanksgiving).

Skye fit right in with the girl cousins.

Lots of cooking, cleaning and sampling.

IMG 9365

Skye was the first one to face plant into the rolls.

And then we all dug in and yes, I put sheets on our couch because I love it so much and didn’t want food to somehow get on it ha.

My brother-in-law’s first (of two) 10 lb plates of food… he needs to enter an eating contest.

Dessert!  If you haven’t made my family’s date bars then you need to now (recipe HERE).

Around 6 is when Brooke’s breathing got really bad and she started having a barking cough.  We got her to see someone and the steroid they gave her for croup helped pretty quickly but she still had a pretty rough night.

I have a few Friday favorites to share (affiliate links included).

*MY FAVORITE JEANS on the planet (that I wear multiple times a week are finally on sale which they never are) HERE!!  They are the black ones with buttons on the front that I told you about a few weeks ago.  Use the code Dealwithit for 25% off.

*You can use that code on a bunch of my favorite shirts I’ve told you about for (that are also on an even bigger sale) here, here, here ($7.50!!!), here, here and here.

*Also, I just ordered this top, this one and these jeans with the sale:)

We saw Instant Family last week and it was SO good.  Andrew and I laughed so hard (along with cried) and absolutely loved it.  One of my brothers adopted through Foster Care too and I love that niece of mine so much and we are so lucky to have her.

Sloan!!!  “The school I teach at (which is also the school I grew up at) hosts a 5k every year as a fundraiser. Last year I did not run the time I was hoping for and felt absolutely horrible. This year I was able to drop my time significantly and feel much better! I ended up coming in 5th overall and finished 1st for the females. It’s so fun doing races with family! My brother finished 1st in his age group and I’m positive he would have run even faster had he not had a double side stitch. I coach cross country and we had a great turn out from our boys and girls team. We are very hopeful about the future of our program. This race always reminds me how fun racing can be if we let it. I’m thankful for family, running, and running with family.”

Oof, I hope Brooke recovers quickly. That’s no fun at all. So glad you had a good thanksgiving before having to take her to the doctor! And now she can get all rested up and cozy. Sending love.

I love madewell . . . those links could be dangerous. I never shop on black Friday, unless it’s online!

That’s the best way to shop on Black Friday in my opinion:) thanks Kristin and I hope you have a wonderful day!

Instant family. I was crying basically the minute it started. I’m a social worker. And pregnant. So basically yes dehydrated from tears. Happy Thanksgiving! Feel better Brooke.

Happy Thanksgiving, Janae <3 My daughter fostered to adopt 2 brothers two years ago. The adoption was finalized in August. They are perfect and have my heart completely. They changed my life and made me a Mimi. I am also adopted; life goes full circle sometimes. I hope Brooke feels better soon.

Reply

Oh wow, thank you for telling this to me! You and your daughter are amazing and I better you are the best Mimi ever! You have a beautiful story. Have a happy weekend and thank you!

Aww, i hope Brooke feels better fast. It stinks to be sick around holidays :(

It really does! Thank you so much Corey. Have a wonderful day!

Awww croup is terrible. Poor girl! ‘Tis the season. :(
Hope she feels better soon!

Reply

It really is! Her cough last night was terrible! Thank you and I hope you have an amazing day today, Mollie!

Croup is not fun. All my kids have had it several times. I consider myself an expert in distinguishing a croupy cough from a normal cough. I hope she feel better soon.

I think if we do any black friday shopping it will be online. It’s not worth the crowds. Sometimes if you go later it’s calmer, you won’t get any door busters but if there’s a random thing you’re looking for it might be on sale. But we did the door buster thing once and we got a ton of movies for $1 but that was about it and I probably almost died haha.

Reply

Oh thank you Jenny!! Movies for $1… that is awesome! I hope you had a really good thanksgiving Jenny and I’m thankful for our friendship!

Oh, poor Brooke! So sorry she got sick. Croupe is going around the younger kids in my ward/neighborhood right now. :( Hope she bounces back fast! ❤️

Black Friday = online! I bugged out of the in person stuff several years ago after a fight broke out in front of me. Come on, people…it’s just stuff. Anyway, after that, PJs, laptop, and a safe couch are the only way to go, haha!

I want to see that movie! The trailer looks so great! The last thing I saw in Theaters was a special Broadway engagement of Bandstand. Love those special theater events!

Happy late Thanksgiving and happy deal finding! Hope you and Andrew recover quickly from hosting. Looked like a great party! ??

Reply

A fight in front of you?!? What? Yeah, I cannot understand that kind of stuff! Glad you are staying inside this year! Go see the movie ASAP and thank you so much!

Well wished to Brooke and fingers crossed none of the other kids, cousins included, get it!

Your house looks beautiful and I’m so glad that you were all settled before the holidays so that you can host and share the atmosphere with your family. This is cheesy but I feel like after friends and family are in the home, even after they leave, the house feels blessed and warmer and broken in and as it should be.

Okay, you totally read my thoughts! I was thinking that last night! Thank you so much! Luckily she just sat on the couch or windowseat and didn’t touch anyone or anything so I’m REALLY hoping it doesn’t spread! Have a wonderful day Amanda and it got really cold for you guys… drink hot chocolate today!

Feel better Brooke!
We are off to the dr too. Owen has a fever and his birthday is in 48 hours. So we need to get better

Jackie had croup as a baby and even now at 8 years old her seal cough comes back every so often.

I did 3 miles on the treadmill before I started cooking yesterday. (Thankful for the treadmill it was 16 degrees!)
We are doing a turkey trot on Saturday. My 8 year old is planning to run it! She told me I couldn’t run it because she wanted me to get a good finish line picture of her?

Reply

Oh no… poor Owen! I hope he is better quickly and that the dr can help! Have the best time on Saturday and you better get a good picture of her crossing the finish line hahaha… she is on top of the game:)

That’s awesome you hosted thanksgiving at your house! That’s a big undertaking!
How do those madewell jeans fit? I’m not sure what size as I’ve never worn their pants.

Reply

Hey! So the black ones I’ve linked too stretch a bit more than other jeans so I got a size smaller than usual but for all of their other jeans I stick to my normal size! I hope you love them and let me know if you have any other questions! Thanks!

Reply

Those jeans are ridiculously expensive (even with the discount).

Reply

I’m sure she does not have to pay for them

Reply

Hey Tracy and Jen! I absolutely paid for them 100%! I think the key to life is understanding we all have different perspectives so while maybe something that you guys would pay more for I never would personally and vis versa! I am sure thankful we have different opinions on things because the world would be very boring if we all thought the same way! I hope you have a great weekend!

Sorry to hear Brooke is sick:(
I don’t do black friday. I wait until closer to Christmas to shop. Less stressful that way.
I did my first ever turkey trot this year! It wasn’t timed, and although it was a little short of the 5k distance, I still managed a 8:35 ish pace!
Last movie I watched was a cheesy Christmas one on Netflix with Vanessa Hudgens called the Princess Switch or something like that. Sort of a typical “identical strangers meet and switch places” movie, but I liked it!

Reply

Ha, ok I didn’t read yesterday and I just saw that you watched that movie!

Those jeans are so expensive

Croup is the worst! Hope she’s feeling better soon!

Family fun and Brooke down all in the same day. Hope she’s feeling better soon! Hope it’s back to fun for everyone!

In the meantime, there’s this soup supporting good/ great nutrition from Korean tradition. I think I’m going to make it one of my FAVORITES after I adjust my life to incorporate it! I think I need to adjust before the end of the month. It includes seaweed and I read we should get seaweed from the Atlantic/ Iceland since Fukushima. So, there’s something to adjust in my grocery shopping because most seaweed/ nori/ kombu is from the Pacific in the stores here. I already knew mussels are excellent for IRON. This Korean lady is cool, too. (She says to have this for 1 MONTH after giving birth!!) It’s a birthday soup, too. Enjoy!

Poor Brooke! I know how scary that barking cough can be for kids and their parents. Cold air also helps, my kids instantly got better on the cold ride to the doc. I took me much longer to recover from the worrying and lack of sleep. #Momproblems

Wow our Thanksgivings sound similar I had 2 sick kiddos but somehow pulled off hosting almost 20 people. Nights seem to be worse when they are sick.

Hope you enjoy the rest of weekend with B on the mend!
Hoping to see Instant Family but hubby wants to see Creed.

Have been through croup a few times with my girls. Cold air is your friend for immediate help if she has trouble breathing. Our doctor told us this. Steam will work but cold air is so fast, take her outside or he actually said you could try opening the freezer. It worked for us.

Hi, I’ve been lurking for a while, enjoying your blog. I just wanted to comment on croup (I hope Brooke feels better soon!). My son woke up one night with the barking cough and he said he had troubles breathing. We were super scared about what was happening so we took him to the ER. It was croup, and the nurse there said when he has this again, a good quick “remedy” is to give him a popsicle. The cold from the popsicle would help relieve the symptoms of croup. Some people commented on cold air having a positive effect, so it may help.

Thank you so much for telling about this… I will be using it in the future (she is good now but this totally would have helped her)!
