WE MOVED + Bun Tutorial!

Life is kind of crazy sometimes.

Andrew and I really weren’t planning on moving at any time soon (we had just FINALLY finished remodeling the house and were ready to just enjoy it ha).  A million things popped up and it all just fell into place—>  like the fact our house sold without even going on the market.  We actually moved THE WEEK OF THE MARATHON.  I wouldn’t advise doing that ha.  The timing happened that way due to when we needed to be in this house and when the people buying our house needed to get in there! Andrew did pretty much everything because I needed to be resting and I did just that.  I did a lot a bit of packing/unpacking but none of the moving (<—Andrew’s idea and I was very happy about that).  So why did I wait to tell you…  We just wanted to get everything set up including our alarm systems etc:)

The kids love it and we are very excited to build all sorts of new memories here!

We had our first family dinner over at our house on Sunday with a taco bar.  It was delicious.  Let me know if you guys are interested in more house stuff or if I should stick to what I always blog about (kids, running, sugar and tangents).

A huge bonus of where we live now… we are right by many of my family members now.

Skye is loving having cousins over all of the time now.

Our Wednesday included a short walk with my sis before it started hailing on us and then we hurried inside…

IMG 5523

Fall is here!  After school we took the kids up to the mountains for a few hours.

I finally got my post marathon donuts!   The maple bar was everything I dreamed of…

IMG 5577

I had a chicken salad for dinner and then our new neighbor showed up with a CHOCOLATE CREAM PIE.  We were meant to live here;)

IMG 5578

The kids know me well and they know that they are able to stall bedtime if they come and ask me to read just one more book with them…  I can’t turn down the snuggling.

IMG 5579

And then Andrew and I stayed up late and he wrote a really funny blog post for you guys next week:)   I have become quite the party animal over here.

IMG 5583

I am so so excited to share that I’m on the Rambling Runner podcast!  You can find it here!  Let me know if you listen to it:)  I had the best time talking with Matt!

IMG 5545

A few of you have asked about how I do the Allie Kieffer Power Bun so I made a short little video to show you!  It’s a little easier to do when you are looking into a mirror and you use a brush but hopefully this will give you an idea of how I do it:)  The more rubber bands you use, the more it won’t move:)

——————————————————————————————————-

When was the last time you moved?

-I am pretty sure we won’t be fully unpacked until 2019 and that is a-okay with me:)

Are the leaves changing colors where you are at?

Current favorite podcast… I’d love to hear!!

How many times do you think you go to the grocery store a week?

Tell me three things that you are up to today?!

So did you just not like the location of the old house? Yall put in so much energy into completely renovating it!!! I would totally be interested in a virtual tour of the new house! I can’t believe yall moved the week of the marathon. That makes the sub-3 even more impressive!! Enjoy your rest in the new home!!

Reply

We loved the location of our old house…. 2 years ago. From when I moved in until we moved out they built a brand new high school LITERALLY across the street for us. And it is 3 stories tall! It was great for the property value of our home but our quiet street turned into a CRAZY street. The people that bought our house have teenagers so it was perfect for them but we just needed to get away from all of the craziness! Thank you so much and literally… Andrew did everything. I packed a few boxes ha! Have an amazing day!

Reply

Oh my goodness! What a nightmare! I would not want to live next to a high school with all the chaos of pickup/drop off, all the sport games/events, and so much traffic/sound. Sounds like the new move, for you and the new owners, is best for everyone! What a blessing! Enjoy your new space even closer to family (always a plus)!

Reply

EXACTLY!!! Thank you so much Alisha:) Enjoy your Thursday!

Reply

You did what during marathon week?? More house posts!
And congrats!
And I need to start practicing my power bun ASAP. I just have a lot of hair..like a lot, a lot. Better reason to nail the power bun!

Reply

Hahah yes… Andrew did most of it so he needs to be the one congratulated:) YES… do the power bun. It has magical powers!

Reply

More about the house!!!!!!! Pics, details, etc. I LOVE interior design and house pics! Love the window seat!

Reply

Done and done!! I totally will. But can you come help me decorate… that would be amazing!!! Have a wonderful day:)

Reply

Congrats on your new home!!! I would love to see a house tour on the blog:) Just looking at the video you took in the bathroom your home looks so nice.
For your tacos above..do you make the chicken in the crockpot? Can you share the receipe. They look so good!!!

Reply

Hey Ashlea!! Thank you so much:) YES… for chicken tacos we always use the crockpot and usually we just mix in a jar of salsa and some taco seasoning with the chicken. This time we used one of the meals I made through Citrus Pear (my sis and I went to the grocery store and made 10 meals in two hours for the freezer… they dumped a lot of the ingredients in the bag etc so I don’t have the exact recipe). Sorry I don’t have the actual recipe. I hope you have a wonderful day!

Reply

Wow! Would love to hear more details about the new house. Moving is HARD, I can’t believe you managed to do it the week of the marathon!!! And thanks for taking the time to answer so many of our questions yesterday- all the information was super helpful!

Reply

Oh I’m glad and let me know if you have any other questions! Literally Andrew did everything. I just took over kid stuff while he did all of the moving which meant I was on the ground/couch relaxing while he and his friends moved us out. Thank YOU! Have a wonderful rest of your week!

Reply

Please show your house, I would love to see it!! The last time I moved was 2003 and I don’t plan to move soon.

Reply

Great, we totally will! Moving is the worst haha and now we plan to never move again! Have a great day Almarie!

Reply

Ok, you’re officially crazy. A move and a sub-3?! That’s amazing!! :)
I LOVE that bench by the window!! I’m trying to get my husband to agree to build one out in our kitchen. Congrats on the new house! Definitely share more house stuff!

Reply

We literally are crazy. Thank you so much and good luck on convincing your husband to get one… YOU NEED IT:) Have a wonderful day Mollie!

Reply

I can’t wait to listen to your interview with Matt. I usually wear my hair in a bun for races because honestly it’s just easier and I can’t braid at all LOL.

Reply

I do not know how people do french braids on their own hair… it’s amazing to me! Buns 4 life. Have a great day Hollie!

Reply

Congrats on the new home!! And love the power bun demo. I do something pretty similar except I braid my ponytail before wrapping/twirling it into a bun (keeps everything tighter with my hair!).

Three things I have going on today:
-Easy swim
-Work and then maybe try to get to a yoga class
-Going on a second date tonight! My bf of 3 years and I broke up earlier this summer and it has been ROUGH. I still don’t know if I feel totally ready to date but we’ll see how this goes!

Reply

Arthi. I am so incredibly sorry about the breakup. Whenever I went through a hard breakup I remind myself that I’ll never settle for anything less than how happy I was with so and so… it will only go UP from here. And it did, big time. I hope your date tonight is great and that you laugh a lot and feel comfortable. Thinking about you!

I’m going to try the braid idea… brilliant!

Reply

I love that. Thanks girl!! Yeah it was pretty brutal. I still don’t feel totally ready to jump back into the dating world but gonna try to keep an open mind and heart and have fun :) If it makes me feel worse after, I’ll take a dating hiatus and focus on running and yoga!

Reply

I think that is a fabulous idea… dating is ROUGH. Focus on you for a bit and when you are ready, you’ll know. I’m so sorry about what you have been through.

Reply

Thanks, Janae :) I have no doubt things will work out however they’re supposed to!

Reply

OMG! You guys are crazy brave! Is this why Andrew was doing all that tile work right before the marathon (or was that in your new house)?

We moved back into our house after four years in Bulgaria May 9. Our air shipment was delivered a few weeks later (1000 pounds unpacked that day), and our household effects shipment was delivered a month later (2300 pounds unpacked mostly that day but some the day after). I am a big packer/unpacker, and cannot stand having things in boxes. Want me to come help? :) :? :/

Yes, the the leaves are changing colors and we are pretty excited that today is our first fall day (yesterday it was mid-80s), with a high of 73! And happy that three of our past years Christmas trees stayed alive all this time so that we have some lines for after the leaves fall! We also have two Magnolias.

Current favorite podcast is Ear Snacks for car rides with the kiddos! Educational for the whole family, and a great learning level for the 5 year olds.

I usually go to the grocery store once a week. But lately I have been a poor planner and that sent me to the store twice last week and THREE times this week!!!

Today I am getting my first hair cut since we moved back to America (I am so excited that she will likely understand every word I say), and getting my brows threaded, too. Both with the same lady via a Groupon! Wish me luck :). Then picking up my son from his last day of school before fall break. We are going to do some landscaping this weekend (what days fall break to a five your old like laying brick paths in your yard!?!), soccer practice, then a camping trip in our new cricket camper, and back home for a soccer game! Full week of fall fun foreshadows!

Reply

SOOOO that is part of the crazy part… that was our old house. He kept feeling like he needed to redo the bathrooms and I kept saying, let’s wait until after the holidays… I’m too tired ha. We finally ended up doing it and a few weeks later the house stuff popped up. Him finishing the bathrooms made it so much easier for our house to sell (since it was all finished and it increased the value) but we didn’t know that when doing it because we weren’t planning on moving for another 5-10 years.

I can’t even imagine how stressful your move must have been!!! Can you please come help, I feel like we are going to have boxes forever because I just want to relax:) Happy first day of FALL! I am jealous of 73 degrees… I’m already freezing here. Have fun at your hair cut (I need one too)! ENJOY the camping trip!!! I want to hear how it goes with your new camper. Thanks Tonya!

Reply

You really have a whole alternative life to the blog

Reply

Hahah with some things yes. We just needed to get a few things in place as far as security systems and the fact that we have a few more people we are working with in this blended family etc. We just needed to get some things in place first! We were in this house less than a month after seeing it the first time so things went very quickly! Have a great day!

Reply

Yay! So excited for y’all in your new home! :)

Three things I’m doing today: going home (I’ve been traveling all week for work, and I’m so excited to get to go home today), going to a good-bye get-together for a friend who is moving, and hopefully going to bed super early because it’s been a long week!

Have a wonderful day in your new house, Janae!!

Reply

Thanks Natalie! I am so glad you get to go home today and nothing is like sleeping in your own bed. Go to bed early for sure and enjoy the get-together and grab some froyo after. Thanks Natalie!

Reply

That’s crazy! We are FINALLY getting cooler weather starting today, but it will be a few weeks until leaves are at their peak. Yesterday was 80 something, so if there are any leaves on the ground right now it’s because they died of heat!

Reply

80 something… that’s crazy! Come visit Utah and I’ll take you to see all of the leaves;)

Reply

Oh wow that’s insane that you had to move that quickly right before the marathon. I’m glad it worked out!

Reply

It really was. We are tired… especially Andrew because he did everything haha. Have a great day Victoria!

Reply

Yes, more house stuff, please! How exciting! Do the kids have to change schools? Do you get new running routes? How is Beretta handling the new location? :)

Reply

HEY!! Luckily they are still in the same school together wahoo! I love the new running routes and Beretta was nervous when all of our boxes were getting packed up but she loves our backyard here even more! Have a great day!

Reply

Wow, what a busy week for you guys! Yes, please post house stuff!
I love going into the Columbia River Gorge (just a 35-40 min. drive for us) and see all of the different colors on the trees, so pretty!
Podcast: Fit Womens Weekly. Kindal is awesome!
Three things today: train clients, go grocery shopping, and a treadmill workout.
Have a great day Janae! Good luck unpacking!!!

Reply

Awesome, we will definitely post house things! I hope you making it to Columbia River Gorge asap! I’ve never heard of that podcast, I need to listen! Enjoy your day Brandy!!

Reply

More house stuff for sure! I love seeing sneak peeks into people’s homes – that bench seat looks so comfy and welcoming. The last time I moved was 2009 but we’ve been tweaking stuff here and there since then.
Current favorite podcasts are Forever35 (skincare/self-care/all sorts of fun stuff), Ologies (so many interesting sciences to learn about!), My Favorite Murder (…I know! But so interesting and the work they do to remove the stigma around mental health is awesome), and The Dream, which is about multi-level-marketing schemes. Fascinating. It makes me grateful that I have a daily commute so I can easily find time to listen :)

Reply

I will totally post stuff then! I need to try out those podcasts.. they sound awesome (especially My Favorite Murder… thank you)! Oh I bet podcasts make your commute so enjoyable! Thanks again Jill and have a great day!

Reply

Congrats on the new house!!!!! I’d love to see more pictures, we’re in the middle of house hunting so I am always looking at houses haha.

Reply

Oh good luck Caitlin! I’m so excited for you guys and good luck finding something… let me know when you do:) I will definitely share more pictures! Thank YOU and have a great day.

Reply

I haven’t moved in a long time!!! We’ve been in our house for just over 19 years now!!!! Crazy stuff. It is funny how your wants/needs for a home change over the years, but the idea of prepping our house for selling and dealing with the stress of IF it would sell/how long it would take/moving kind of fills me with too much anxiety to even consider it. ha ha We do not live close to family–most of my family is 40 minutes away, so I think it’s AWESOME that you will be so close to your family. I often wish I lived way closer to my oldest sister.

I rarely listen to podcasts even though I really DO like them when I listen, but I promise I’ll listen to yours :)

3 things I’m up to today:
*Running a workout after school—–WU/ 6 mile repeats/CD—but they’re calling for downpours. Fingers crossed I can get it in.
*Then, it’s my “free night.” My husband and I each get a “free night” every week where we can do what we want/eat out/etc. The other spouse takes care of feeding the kids/dishes/getting them to bed. It’s a great thing :) I’ll go to Javateas, my fav cafe for dinner!
*I’m not sure! I need to think of something exciting! lol

Hope your day is the best! ENJOY all of the wonderful things that life has given you right now–so much awesome!

Reply

I love it… The plan with this house is to be here for decades too! It really is a ton of work to get it all done (thanks Andrew:). I hope that even though you don’t live next to your oldest sister that you do get to see her often:) 6 MILE REPEATS… GO JEN GO!! I’m cheering you on! Okay, I love your Free Night idea. Brilliant. Enjoy every second. Thank you so much!

Reply

Ahh so many exciting things happening in your life!! so happy for you!! :) I dream of living close to my family when my sister and I have kids! Random, but where is your sweatshirt from in your power bun video? it looks so comfy!

Reply

Thank you Haley! Yes, living next to family is unreal! I bought this sweatshirt in three colors because I love it so much! http://shopstyle.it/l/Tse0

Wait for it to go on sale because it is $50 and I think I got them for 40% off!

Reply

Do your kids still get to go to the same elementary school? Will Knox and Brooke still be in the same school. I watch a lot of Love it or List it and I think that people with school are children always Love it because it is hard to move away from school and friends.

Reply

Hey Allison! THEY DO!! Luckily with a charter school you don’t have to live in the district to go there… we are in the same city and not that far away so it worked out nicely. Now they get to be with their cousins nonstop too! Have a great day!

Reply

Congratulations on the new house!!! What an exciting time for you guys. Can’t wait to see it! Hope you guys have a blessed day!

Reply

THANK YOU!!! YOU TOO KIMBERLY!!!

Reply

Everyone says when things happen easy they were meant to be. Trevon and I joke that we can’t ever do things easy haha. You guys were for sure meant to be where you are! If you need help unpacking let me know. I’ll be there to help, but probably with the kids haha! And I love that you found a place by your family! I love living by family.

Reply

Yes… it really is so true! hahah! Seriously, you are the best.. thank you! Thanks Jenny! Have a great Thursday!

Reply

Good gravy, that’s really exciting! I have a dumb confession: I love moving. Everything is REALLY CLEAN, and all of my stuff gets a new home. I <3 it.

The leaves here in the Chi are EXTRA today! We finally got a good cold front that moved in last night! <3 <3 <3 <3 (so many hearts today — I'm a little hyper from the cold)

Reply

Tiffany… YES!! It was so nice to declutter and donate the things we do not use and start fresh! ENJOY the gorgeous leaves and crisp air. Thanks!

Reply

I LOVE house stuff and I loved the style of the pictures from your last house. We bought a fixer upper and are slowly moving room to room so I can’t get enough of that stuff!! I’ve been thinking about security systems more since my husband has been traveling for work (and I watch way too much Criminal Minds and Dateline :-D ) so if you do a house post and have anything to share on that, I’d love to learn what you’ve found.

Reply

That is my sister’s love too… moving from room to room fixing up her house (she has a post next week on the blog where she shows a room that she just finished. Bahaha those shows have freaked me out too. Email me and let’s talk. We have learned SO much about all of this stuff!

Reply

We moved back in 2014, 2015, and then in 2016. Crazy?!?!? We bought our home in our old town in 2014 and had no plans to move. Then an opportunity presented itself for my husband in Waco and we couldn’t turn it down. So less than an year after moving into our home, we sold it and moved to Waco in 2015. However, we didn’t know yet where we wanted to live, so we moved in with family for 9 months. That meant packing and moving almost all of our stuff into three storage units and making sure we had what we needed for a family of 5, who were also homeshooling, for the next 9 months. Finally our house we built was done and we closed and moved in in 2016. I am done with moving for a very long time. Kuddos to moving during Marathon week. I bet it was crazy but now you get to be in your new home for the holidays and make new memories!

Reply

That is A LOT of moving Tabaitha… you guys are awesome! Those 9 months must have been TOUGH. I’m so happy you were able to get in your new house and can stay there forever:) YES… we are thrilled. Have a wonderful day Tabaitha!

Reply

I have been rocking the power bun for a while too and LOVE it.
I have a love-hate relationship with moving. I find it fun to unpack and put things away, but I hate packing everything up. Plus, you always find that you have so much more stuff than you thought. We are actually looking at Utah as one of the locations we want to move (we are currently in Virginia) and would love to hear your thoughts on good towns!
Podcasts I have been loving lately are Lindsey Hein and Ali Feller – both are so great and conversational.
I am still in awe of your race last weekend and even though we have never met, so proud of your accomplishment. It has also fueled my marathon/ultra bug again. I had been taking a break from distances longer than a half for a bit, but I am feeling the itch to get after it again. :)

Reply

It really is the best running hair style. YES.. I agree with everything you said about moving. MOVE TO UTAH. Can you email me? I have a lot to say to you:) Both two of my favorite podcasts. Thank you so much for what you said and I’m so happy the itch is back. We have some incredible races here (including amazing ultras in our mountains)… come here:) Have a great day!

Reply

Would LOVE to hear your thoughts on Utah! I sent you an email. :) Happy Thursday!

A FRESH START!! And so happy you are closer to your family. <3

Andrew not only wins husband of the year but man of the year with all that he’s done over the last couple of months!

Congrats on the new house! Would love to see/hear more about it!

Reply

Seriously, I do not know how I got him. Thank you so much Bridgette and I’ll definitely post more then! Have a great day!

Reply

I would love to see pics of your house. It looks really nice. How close do you live to your sister? My sister lives next door and it is the coolest thing ever. The kids play nonstop together and whenever I run out of something I just need to go next door.

Reply

THAT IS THE BEST. She is right by us too. It’s heavenly. It’s so easy to just have her kids over or send ours to her… life changing. I’ll share more pictures soon. Thanks Brianna!

Reply

The leaves are not changing where I’m at….and probably won’t. Haha Florida. Knox is so photogenic!! I love the outdoor photos.

I only generally need to go to the grocery store 1-2 times a week but sometimes I just like going and wandering around;)

Today I got my easy run day in and now time for work and then class for my masters degree!

Would love to see more house posts, I’m helping my boyfriend remodel his house right now and we always love ideas;)

Have a great day Janae!

Reply

I am so happy that you will have wonderful weather the next few months though. it’s your race season there right now, right? ENJOY! Congrats on working on your masters degree… that is awesome! I’ll definitely post more house things and that is awesome you are helping your boyfriend right now! YOU TOO!

Reply

We actually just survived Hurricane Michael (I’m in Pensacola, FL in the Panhandle), so I’m a little overwhelmed with gratitude this morning as 100 miles east of us is completely destroyed, and that could of been us. So, yes, I am thankful for the weather this morning…
But yes, it is race season starting here shortly!

Reply

Oh my goodness. I have a pit in my stomach. I am so grateful that you are okay. Prayers for those that lost everything. Thank you for sharing with me.

Reply

What?! That’s crazy- and impressive! A house tour would be great- I love them!

Reply

Great! I will get one going. Thanks Brittney! Have a fabulous day!

Reply

Congrats on the move! Smart with the security system set up, and you also have a moving-security system (Beretta! ;) )

Something I was wondering- how do you and your coach decide how to plan out your racing schedule? Why do you choose specific races (besides St.George…I know how it feels to have a race in your soul)? I ask because I am trying to structure my coming year, and trying to fit in a half marathoning season before another potential full marathon is proving difficult. Choosing races is difficult enough, then structuring it into a season and life’s seasons is another ball game.

Of course it’s all individual, but seeing the thought process people have kinda helps me navigate my own structure.

Wow! Sub-3 and a new house in a week! That has to be up there with childbirth for the most exciting weeks of your life. HUGE congrats!

Crazy work week for me so my goals: 1.) Run 5, 2.) Yoga 30 min, 3.) Cook dinner. I know, live big. ;-)

Reply

WOW! Congrats on the new house and everything happening so quickly and smoothly! I would love to hear more about the house and see some pictures too!
I mentioned this last week, but I have become such a fan of Lindsay Hein’s podcast! She has such inspiring people on the show. I just listened to her bonus episode with Tony Dungy… what a great man :) But, I can’t wait to listen to Rambling Runner with you!
Your mountains look so beautiful! I LOVE fall! It really is my favorite time of year. Even here in SoCal! We don’t get all the colors, but we do have some. I think one of my favorite things about fall are the cool mornings and evenings! I love running in the morning when it’s nice and cool.
Have a great Thursday!!

Reply

I did all happen so dang fast! I still feel bad we didn’t even help. I want to make it up to you by bringing dinner over….and maybe that is a selfish excuse to get to hang out and come see your house in real life.

We have been in our house for almost 10years. Which is crazy. We will never move back to ogden, which means we will most likely not be close to my family again so if you would find us a house by you, that would be great.

Favorite podcasts: The Alison Show, It’s Not About The Food, and Better Than Happy.

3things: Turbokick, Watching my nephew and stake primary training tonight. I know. Be jealous.

Reply

You crack me up……….”I know. Be jealous.” In my mind you’re a super kind, friendly, good-humored woman with just a hint of sarcasm. My kind of friend!

Reply

Yes I’d love to see house pics. Is this one ready or you need to do renovations?
I try to grocery shop once a week. Sometimes I need something before a week is up. How do you do your grocery shopping?
I think the weather is finally changing into fall this weekend. Thank goodness. Still been like summer here in east TN. Which is why I can’t do an early fall marathon around here, still too warm.

Reply

Congrats on the house/move!

My husband and I are closing on our first house tomorrow! I’m so excited!

Reply

So exciting about your new house!! I’d love to see more when y’all are all settled in. Yay for being closer to family!! I know the kids are thrilled about that!
We just bought a new house and should be moving in about a month. We are painting, replacing floors and a few other things first. I’m excited to get rid of so much stuff from our old house. We’ve been in this house for more than 20 years!
Everything is still very green in Texas, but it was a brisk 60 degrees this morning! Fall is on it’s way.
I usually go to the grocery store twice a week. I have to go to more than one store because I can’t get everything we need at one place.
I have that sweat shirt too and LOVE IT! I agree…wait until they have a sale. I got mine for about $20.

Reply

We are moving into our new house in a week and a half. I can totally relate to having a school across the street. We do too where we currently live and I definitely will not miss the traffic and craziness! Congratulations on your new home, and I would love to hear more about it!

Reply

Congratulations on your new home!! These are exciting times for you for sure! I’d love to see more once your settled – the snipets in this post
Are beautiful! We moved last December – it was very chaotic because I was 8 mos pregnant
But sooo worth it! And don’t worry, we will still be unpacking in 2019 as well!

Reply

That’s exciting about the move!! Moving is crazy (to me at least) and stressful – amazing how you did it and had your amazing race all at the same time! Are you guys still in Utah county? We moved last November from one house in Herriman to another. Even a local move was still crazy! But we are so thankful for our house and yard we have now and don’t ever want to move again! :)

Reply

Aw, the stars aligned for you with this house! How amazing to be close to your sis! That just sounds perfect. And looking back it’s a good thing you packed for the marathon so early ;)

Reply

Yes! We love houae stuff!
PS And more baby photos :)

Reply

OK, I’m SUPER impressed with your family for deciding to move and making it happen so fast. Way to go!! I would love to hear more about the move and new house!

I am a big time supporter of the AK Power Bun. It is life changing. I don’t know why, but I never tried multiple hair bands for a bun before so I could never run with a bun because it would fall down. There is no going back now. No more pony tails for this runner. My AK Power Bun even survived the entire Chicago marathon without moving an inch. It WORKS PEOPLE!

Reply

OMG, you and Andrew are total superheros! Moving AND a marathon in the same week ?! I’m lucky to be caught up on laundry :) Seriously, great job you two!!
More house stuff!!
Hope you are loving your new digs, many blessings to you always.
Hugs,
Amanda

PLEASE PLEASE DO A HOUSE TOUR!!!!! I would love to see the front of it and the kitchen, etc. Sidenote: I already love the color of the hardwood floors!

Reply

We just moved from Colorado to Layton, UT in July. We’ve unpacked most things but have a couple boxes left that will stay that way while we are in this little apartment & looking for where we want to buy.

The leaves are changing colors a bit but I really have enjoyed watching the changes on the mountains.

I’m obsessed with the Another Mother Runner Podcast and can’t get enough. I’ve been listening to all their back episodes over the last month.

1. Grocery Shopping
2. Cleaning house
3. Mentally preparing myself for my in-laws visit this weekend and my sons baptism on Saturday!!

Reply

Omigosh! I was listening to the podcast on my way in to work and Matt mentioned the move … I was sitting in my car wondering what he was talking about! I literally thought he mis-spoke and you were being too kind to correct him because hello, it wasn’t mentioned in the blog (until this am)! HA! Too funny!
Congrats on the house! We’ve been “remodeling” for the last 10 or so years and I’m always looking for ideas so I would love to see pics of your new house! I’m hoping to move in the next 3-5 ish years, sooner if we can get our act together! Ha!
I’m in the PNW so our mountains have been changing for a few weeks now but I haven’t gotten a chance to get up there. I have a trail 30k Saturday so I’m hoping to be surrounded by fall colors and then be able to escape to the mountains with my kiddos and/or girlfriends after that.
Have a great day!

I would love to hear lots more about the house!!! You should do a house tour via video!!! I love seeing others homes and how they decorate. I am very curious on where you put all your medals or if you just put them away.
Here are answers to your questions :)

When was the last time you moved? May 2012 to our current home – LOVE IT!

Are the leaves changing colors where you are at? NOPE – we are in Texas they just turn brown, lol. We just got our first cool front but for us that means it was 60 degrees this morning and a high of 81 today, lol. Should be cooler next week but I am very excited for my long runs on Saturdays when it is cooler. I am training for the Houston Full Marathon :)

How many times do you think you go to the grocery store a week? 0 – 1 – I shop for 2 weeks at a time so usually on the weekend in between I have to go to get anything we have run out of, i.e. veggies, juice, etc. I have an almost 13 year old boy so he is eating more and more!!! Yikes!

Tell me three things that you are up to today?! Working (boooooo)……beautiful outside and I am stuck in my office….but looking forward to Saturday for my 13-15 mile run (it has been hard getting the bigger mileage runs since it was so hot for so long but last weekend I got a 13.1 mile run in and I felt good but it was still very humid, so this weekend when it is 60 degrees I am thinking maybe I can go more than 13, we shall see. My plan had been to do 13 2 weeks in a row then go to 15 twice and then jump to 18, but I am going to go with listening to my body and if I am feeling good I will do more :)

Have a great day Janae!! xoxo

I would love to see more house pictures! One of my friends I am running with this weekend did the same thing, moved this weekend. She said it is crazy moving and running a marathon the same week.

3 things I’m doing today. I ran my last run (minus the 2 mile shake) out before my marathon. I have to run around and get everything so I can be ready to leave tomorrow, my marathon is in California, and I live in Utah. And I have to work (boo).

I only grocery shop once a week. I will either schedule grocery pick from Wal-Mart or go to Smith’s on Saturdays after I finish my long run.

I don’t know how you moved without spilling the beans sooner! I would’ve been bursting to talk about it! I actually just moved a month ago into my own place after living with my sister for 2 year post-divorce. Since I got rid of a LOT of stuff the move was really easy. But I had no furniture so I’ve had to make some big decisions and big purchases. I love having my own space but wish it was closer to my family – I’ll miss them. Please write about house stuff – I love it!

Leaves are in full fall colors here – it’s my favorite time of year.

Listening to season 3 of Serial lately.

Reply

Yes! Please more house stuff please!

I last moved in 2016, but it was across country so I’m really not looking to do it again any time soon ;)
Despite the fact that we’ve been in our house for over 2 years now, there are still walls that are completely bare because I’m the worst at hanging up pictures.

I just noticed that the leaves are in fact changing in our neighborhood now! Finally! I just think it’s crazy how early the leaves change in the mountains and how it takes so much longer for them to change in the city!

Three things:
1. 5.7 mile run for Day of the Girl by Ragnar!
2. Work work work
3. Picking up my debit card from the bank because I was that dummy who left it in the ATM and walked away!

To me it sounds like perfect timing because you have an amazing hubby and now you can nest while you are relaxing (not running) well Moms don’t rest but ya know what I mean:) The remodel probably helped sell it too!

Please show the house!! We flipped a rental we had and are selling and I love your decorating so yes show the house!
Congrats! What an amazing year for you!

Reply

YES more house stuff :D!!! LOL glad I’m not going crazy- I started listening to The Rambling Runner’s podcast this morning with you on it, and I was like OMG how did I miss in her posts that they moved?? Congratulations- so exciting!!!

I’ve moved 4 times in 4 years and lived in 3 states in 5 years. It’s funny because I didn’t used to like change but with all the moving lately I have learned less is more and just love experiencing new areas lol. But really I moved from Illinois to Philadelphia area. Then found out they were tearing down my apartment so moved from there after 11 months to another apartment in a different suburb of Philly. Stayed there for a year and a half, sold a bunch of my things to travel australia, New Zealand, Europe for 4 months and then moved to Binghamton, NY in May 2017 and bought a house in May 2018. So now that I have a house I guess I will stay put for a few years at least ;) already dreaming of my next state to move to lol

Yes – house tours, house stuff – please share!!

Because of Les’ job, we’ve moved in and out of a couple places on Oahu – they’ve been furnished so we just had to bring clothes/shoes/bikes, etc. We’ve been in our California home for almost 18 years. It’s gonna be a ton of work if we ever move!

We don’t get a lot of Fall color here in So Cal, but we have had a gorgeous Fall so far!

I try to go the grocery store only once a week (Mondays), but I need to go today because I forgot some things!

Reply

Congrats on the move! I definitely want to see more house stuff! It looks adorable! Good luck unpacking- such a process but also kind of fun in a new house. Can’t wait to hear about everyone’s favorite podcast- I am always on the lookout for good ones.

Reply

Was that video filmed in your new bathroom?!? It’s beautiful. I vote for an entire house tour!! Congratulations!!

Reply

Would love to see a house tour/pics and would also love to know your cleaning routine if you have one! Congrats on the new place!

The last time we moved was 12 (!!!) years ago. We live on a 21-acre park so it is almost like living in the country. But better because there are sidewalks. I grew up on my grandfather’s farm and know what a hazard it is to run along country roads! Our leaves are turning but yesterday was our first day without rain in 14 days so many of those pretty leaves are on the ground. Yesterday morning I ran in a tank and shorts and this morning the windchill was in the mid-20s. In Iowa, we have 4 seasons but we are lucky if spring and fall are more than 2 weeks long.

Oh wow moving! Crazy how these things can happen quickly! I’d love to see more about the new house :)

Last time we moved (which will hopefully be the last for a long long time) was a bit terrible in that it took awhile for our house to sell (in hindsight we put in on the market at the exact wrong time) and then when it sold we had to accept a quick turn around…which meant we were homeless for a month! Our fantastic friends let us stay with them in their (small) apartment for that time – which we also split with staying in a hotel on the weekends so everyone would get a break – but it was a long month! Good news is we absolutely love our house so it was worth it in the long run!

And one of the things we love about our place is the trees – they are an absolutely gorgeous colour of red right now!

I just finished the podcast Dr. Death, which is a true crime podcast about a neurosurgeon who was able to keep operating on patients even after many catastrophic outcomes. It’s wild!

Reply

Wow so exciting – enjoy your new home! Yes leaves are gorgeous here. I walked to work (it’s only a few km from home) just to enjoy the leaves.

Working, probably running and who know what after -it’s getting chilly so probably indoor, fire place and hot cider:)

Have a super day!

Tom’s birthday is tomorrow, so this evening after work he and I are going on an “excursion” and he gets to choose one of his birthday gifts. Don’t tell him–shhhhhh–but we are going to Dillard’s and he is getting new Sperrys. He knows that the rest of his gifts come tomorrow on his actual birthday, along with a fancy dinner out (as per our usual tradition for birthdays…otherwise we go to pretty budget-friendly places when we eat out…). I also teach my classes starting in 20 minutes, and this morning I taught a Body Flow class that turned out, somehow, to be perhaps one of the BEST in my life (or at least in the last 6.5 years I have been teaching Flow). Was my timing on the choreography perfect? Nope. SOme of my form in some of the balance-heavy yoga poses was wobbly, but I was so present, so human, so authentic, so connected on the teaching stage and I really felt myself come to life.

Those are my three things. :)

Congrats on the move! I love that you and Andrew are in a place that is “yours” as in your entire shared world–and that you get to build a safe haven for your family there. I really get how important family is to both of you and how with your family–and your hope for so many more kiddos joining your steed–having them RIGHT THERE can be so helpful!

The leaves in Atlanta–I guess a few are changing. For the most part, though, many of them are just dried shrivelled up messes on the ground and the air still hangs humid and warm. Except this morning it was just below 70 as I was getting ready to leave for teaching Body Flow and then coming to campus, so YOU BET I put on my biggest, fluffiest hoodie over my yoga clothes! I may have cranked up, simultaneously, the heat seater and the AC to not be even slightly warm on my drive to the gym, but whatever… ;)

Reply

Oh my gosh I can’t believe you moved and still ran a 3-hr marathon!!! I moved an hour away two weeks after i ran Chicago last year and it almost killed me, haha! (But my husband was in Atlanta when we listed & sold the house and Germany while I was packing—I’m tired just thinking about it!) So so glad Andrew took on the lion’s share of moving prep. And YES absolutely we need a home tour!!!

Reply

Congrats on the move !! So exciting, nothing quite like being by family !! Last weekend I spent time, with my family, upstate New York and the leaves changing colors and being surrounded by mountains was so dreamy. Looks so similar to how it is by you! Btw I would love to see and hear more about your new house! Congrats again!!

Reply

Yes, pictures of the house!

Reply

wow! I was wondering the other day how the cousins came over after school cause I thought you lived a bit aways from them ;) hahaha. Congratulations! and SO MUCH MORE house stuff please! I love all the house stuff. I move all the freaking time because i’m single and changing jobs frequently. I probably go to the grocery store 4+ times a week. again, single, and try to not waste money on food I won’t eat so i kinda go whenever i want something and then make/eat that thing.. haha

Reply

Congrats on the move! How exciting! I cannot wear my hair up in a bun during a run. I have really really thick hair and if I wear it up it feels really heavy and I start to develop a headache :-(. Oh how I wish I could wear it in a bun during a run!

Reply

Congrats on the new house!! Sounds like such a whirlwind but also the best decision for your guys in the long run. It will be one of those things where you look back years from now like, remember when we moved and that weekend I got my sub-3??? :) :)
I always love seeing pics of other peoples’ homes and decor styles. I have heard other bloggers say, though – not to share the company/brand of your home alarm system and to keep your floor plan details more vague (i.e., where the kiddos rooms are, etc.)

Reply

Congratulations on the new house! That’s so exciting! We ended up signing on our house, moving, and getting married within the same week and a half. I completely understand the craziness but would not recommend it. Really glad the timing of everything worked out for you though. I would love to see more home things and just love your blog overall!

Reply

What the what?!!! I cannot believe you moved the week of the marathon!! I despise moving so so much!! Seriously, that amazes me!!
And YES, YES, YES to more house posts!

Reply

Congrats on your new home! How exciting!

Reply

Would LOVE to see more house posts! I cannot believe you moved the week of your marathon! We are house hunting now and I am already dreading moving. Packing/unpacking is the worst. That’s amazing you have such great support from Andrew!

Reply

Yes please do more house tours!!! I love seeing other people’s houses and layouts. Weird maybe….

No the leaves aren’t turning here. I’m in NZ and it’s getting warmer each day! I think it’s going to be a hot summer.

Three things about my day:
It’s my youngest boys second birthday today! I cannot believe how fast time flies and am 100% in denial that he is 2!!! How is that even possible. So will be doing some birthday things today. Otherwise just a regular day over here. My goal is to get a workout done and clean kitchen cabinets!

I probably go to the grocery store about two times a week but maybe theee if there is something special going on I need to cater for.

When we moved house I used to set a timer and spend just 15 minutes a day unpacking boxes and then didn’t do anymore until the next day. It’s amazing how much you can achieve in 15 minutes!!!

Hope you have a lovely day Janae!!

House posts are my favorite posts! Please post as much as you’re willing to about why you decided to move (I read the comment above about the high school – makes total sense), what you’ll miss about your old house, favorite rooms in the new house and ideas for home projects…I love it all!

Also, seriously impressed you kept that under wraps. Moving is so stressful, running a sub 3 is stressful – can’t believe you did both in the same week!

xoxo

We moved last year Thanksgiving weekend. Not a recommended way to spend a Holiday, but a great long weekend to get it done! We didn’t even really pack beforehand. I packed boxes, my husband loaded the trailer and unloaded them at the new house, brought them back, repeat. Moving less than a mile away allows one to get creative. We did hire a crew for furniture, now that IS recommended.
I live in Michigan and yes, the leaves are starting to change colors, it is magical.
I have been enjoying the Committed Podcast lately. I find other people’s relationships so interesting.
Today is a BUSY one. I am working all day (I am a high school Geometry teacher), I have to pick up my kids so we can attend a parent teacher conference for my third grade daughter and a soccer game to attend shortly after that. The two biggest questions are, when is dinner and what are we eating?
Friday mornings I run with my best running buddy, so early to bed for sure… Happy Almost Friday!

Long time reader here. SO PROUD OF YOU JANAE ON THE MARATHON WIN!!!!!!! SO HAPPY FOR ALL OF YOU ON THE NEW HOUSE. Whenever I read your blog my heart fills with love and joy for you and your entire family. Just pure love and happiness. I love how close your family is as mine is the same way but we don’t all live close by or even in the same states but regardless I just enjoy reading and seeing about family bonds and togetherness. Again, CONGRATS JUST ON EVERYTHING!

DEFINITELY more house stuff!! I want a tour of the new place! :)

That video made me want to be your friend IRL really badly! Creep alert. Not happening since I’m up in Canada, but it would be fun!! Congrats on the move – I moved in 2012, 2016 and again early this year so I feel your (er…Andrews) pain. I am so jealous, that’s my dream to live in walking distance of my sister. But currently it’s a 28 min drive and it used to be A 10 hour drive so it could be WAY worse!

Reply

Thank you for the bun tutorial!! I legit spent at least 30 minutes trying to get my braid out after running in the rain on Sat. Ha!

I moved five years ago and I’m hoping not to do it again anytime soon. I don’t mind helping other people move, I just don’t like having to go through all my stuff!

I’m in SoCal so we don’t really get the awesome leaves changing colors :(

I typically go to Costco once a week and since it’s cross country I order Wal Mart groceries online once a week too :) That’s the best if you have it in your area!

3 things: walking the pup, grading essays :(, and having a bunch of kids over for pasta and to watch McFarland in preparation for their race tomorrow!

Reply

Please share all about the move!! Would love to hear how it all happened!

Please tell us all about the house hunting, move, process! I love reading all kinds of experiences :)

I knew that you had a running belt you really liked so I just searched “running belt” in your search bar and this post came up. I was scrolling through it trying to find where you talked about the running belt, but saw this too from your 2018 goal list:

*A marathon in October (ST. GEORGE) to run just for fun (no time goals). I want to remind my body how to run a marathon again and then to start training for a PR marathon in April 2019. So training for that race will start next December!

I think it’s safe to say you exceeded your goal!! :) You are awesome! And yes, I found the running belt!

Reply

AHHH JENNIE!! I love that you found this. Wow… I definitely checked that goal off a little early WAHOO! Thank you Jennie for sharing this with me:) Have a beautiful day!

I’m curious about the power bun. I do something similar for spin class, but it doesn’t hold for runs, probably bc I need a bajillion more hair ties. My freshman year of high school we had an away cross country meet, so everyone wore their hair in little nubbins (like mini buns, but smaller sections around the whole head). I have SOOOO much hair and I could feel each little bun moving during our meet.
I definitely want to see a home tour! We moved into our fixer upper 2.5 years ago, but it’s definitely not a forever home. It’s only a 2 bedroom/1 bathroom. But we’ve replaced all the carpets with hardwood, a completely new bathroom, all new windows, and painted the whole house. We are also working on landscaping the front and backyard and growing grass. The kitchen is the next big item and we are debating about fixing it all up, or just updating certain parts.
We live in Denver, so similar weather to SLC, in that we just got a very cold front come through and actually saw our first snowflakes. I’m not ready for it to be this cold though, so hoping it warms up a little! Our family on both sides live in St. Louis, so we don’t live close to family, now that we have a little baby, my husband gets home sick and wants to be back in STL, but I love living out here, so we are at a crossroads at what our next move will be! If only everyone else would move out here!

You guys are crazy!! I hate the whole process of moving. For a millisecond I considered moving again 3 years ago (only 3 years after we had moved). We went from a 2 bedroom townhouse to a much bigger house we bought a lot more when we moved so I couldn’t imagine having to move all that stuff again, so we decided against it (even though I would really love 1 more bedroom).

I want to hear more about the house! Sorry about the high school going up across the street. But now you guys got to buy a house together :)

I am working late and listening to the Podcast, so thank you for keeping me company while i work :)

Reply

OMG, please show us the new house!!! I hate moving… we r still unpacking boxes from our move 3 months ago. A major move and a sub-3, u r incredible!

Reply

We moved about a month ago. Our baby went to college, so we are empty nesters!!! For the first time in 25 years, we moved because we wanted to…not because we had to. We’ve always moved cities, jobs, schools which is very difficult with kids. We have our dream brand new reverse 1.5 story house. It felt like home from day 1.

Reply

I would love love to hear more about the house! Especially the process of finding one you loved! I’m in the process of hinting right now. It’s super exciting, but also very overwhelming!!

Congratulations on the huge PR!! It’s been super inspirational to follow! And thanks for the bun tutorial! Totally trying it on my next run!

Happy New house and hope you are settling in . I always enjoy our posts but would love more house posts. Also congratulations again on your sub 3 marathon. Amazing.

Congratulations on your new home! For some reason it makes ME very happy that you are closer to your family :) All is right now. Yay!

Thank you so much for the bun tutorial! Recently my braid has been hitting me in the face/shoulders/back while running, so I’m excited to have a new running hair style. Congrats on the new house and sub-3!!!!

Reply

I just moved too! My fiance and I bought a house together and moved all our stuff and then ran the Twin Cities 10 mile race on that Sunday. So I agree, I would not recommend that timing! haha! I was so happy we weren’t run the Twin Cities Marathon instead!

Reply

Loved your podcast on Rambling Runner! You and Kara Goucher have the same TMI/bathroom (not TMI for most readers/runners!) story :) Congrats on an amazing race, you’re an inspiration to new mamas like me and the whole running community! Looking forward to seeing what’s next!

Would love to hear all of the move info!!! So exciting. Congratulations on an incredible week.

Tried the power bun on my long run today. It worked perfectly! No rats nest to comb out now! Thanks so much!

Reply

Congrats on your new home! That’s exactly what happened to us when we moved about 15 years ago. I randomly got a call from a lady saying she wanted to buy our house and that set the ball moving for us to find our current home which we love! I’d love to read about your move and new home, new house projects, etc!

The leaves haven’t started changing yet here in our part of Virginia, but I suspect they will soon now that we’ve finally gotten some cooler weather.

YAAASS I needed this bun tutorial so bad. I love it.
