Close Call on the Roads + Personal Bubble + Bullet Points.

Happy Halloween!  It’s Andrew’s favorite day of the year (along with Thanksgiving and Christmas) and the kids kind of love today too, we can’t wait to celebrate.

I am very much looking forward to changing the clocks to standard time this weekend so we can get a little more light for our morning runs.  I tried out the Run-Thru Hat and it was great and BRIGHT…  We need to be seen!

PS on Saturday (at 11 in the morning… it was very light outside) a car came as close as ever in my running history to hitting me while I was crossing in a crosswalk (one that is right by a school in a residential area).  It really shook me.  She was turning and looking down at something and swerved once she saw me.  That kind of stuff makes me want to only run on bike trails or in the mountains.

4.25 miles @ 8:19 average.

I did another leg day from Megan’s plan for runners (you can find more info here along with the discount code if you want to join me).  Her workouts are awesome for runners, challenging and easy to understand.  Brooke was joining me in the bulgarian split squats… I need a bench to do them on instead of a stair.

I can honestly say that running a few miles is easier for me than doing 15 burpees.  I felt like I was going to die 4 burpees in.

Muscle building now = fast spring races (aka the mantra I use when I am wanting to quit throughout the entire strength training session)

IMG 7193

Skye loves to just kick back while she eats and put one foot up on her seat.

IMG 7197

Brooke told me on the way to school that she wants to be an artist and a veterinarian and that made me very happy.  She will be fabulous at both professions.

She also found the best way to keep her fingers warm when I forget her gloves so maybe she has some inventor genes in her from my dad too.

IMG 7200

Skye was thrilled to go on errands with me.

IMG 7214

Okay, if you are a TJ’s prepared salad person like me, you need to go get one of these now.  It was my first sweet potato in so long (I kind of forgot how much I love them) and the combo of the turkey, veggies and dressing = perfection.

IMG 7218

The rest of the afternoon was kind of boring so I’ll spare you from that but rewind to Monday night:

This switching babysitting for date night thing with my sister each week is going really well.   We switched with her and hit up a yoga class on Monday night!  It felt amazing (and it was really hard at points and I went down to child’s pose a bunch of times)… I felt taller after, more relaxed and so much more loose.

IMG 7168

And then we went for ice cream.  Mine was dipped in oreo hard shell and had peppermint patties on it (weird combo, I know).  Then we went for gas station hot chocolate afterwards because the ice cream made me way too cold.

———————————————————————————————–

I have a few random things to talk about today!

*My sister sent this picture to me because she thinks we are going to be really tired from cooking Thanksgiving dinner so we should just have this for Christmas dinner.

IMG 7117

*I NEED THESE ASAP.  Has anyone tried them yet?  Where did you find them?  I have a feeling these will be my favorite M&M’s yet.

IMG 7174

*Our neighbor brought over pumpkin bread and when I opened it the next morning to grab a piece, I found it like this.  Andrew refuses to eat corner/edge pieces of baked goods so this is his method of cutting a loaf of bread.  I copied him and took another one of the middle pieces too.

IMG 7160

*RUNEMZ shared this the other day and it made me laugh so so hard.  I do not like to be touched when I sleep.  I want to be on my stomach, with my face facing the right and nothing touching me other than the sheets and 3 thick/heavy blankets.

IMG 7175

*Things haven’t changed from our old house to where we live now… Beretta is still everyone’s favorite pillow.

IMG 1102

*If you are running NYCM this weekend you can check out my recap here from when I did it.  You are going to have the most amazing experience… I’m a little jealous;) but cheering you on BIG TIME! It is the most incredible race!

IMG 0623

*Skye does this thing now when she is feeling shy where she will nuzzle her head into us and it is the sweetest thing on the planet.

Parents reading: Do you eat your kid’s Halloween candy?  I was listening to the radio and they said that on average, parents eat 25% of their children’s candy! <— What will you be pulling out of their bags?

-My dad always took ‘Daddy tax’ which consisted of all of the Dots, Baby Ruth’s and Milk Duds in my bag.  I definitely eat our kid’s Halloween candy (I don’t think they even know what a Milky Way tastes like because I take them before they even have a chance).

When you sleep… personal bubble or not so much?

-Complete personal bubble.

Have you had any close calls with cars while running?

How do you feel about scary movies?

-I will be watching one tonight… I promised Andrew I will watch one with him every Halloween because it is his favorite thing but I will probably be covering my eyes most of the time.

Glad you are safe!!! I live in a very small town that has a lot of Amish in the area, plus we have a lot of factories. So we have a huge influx of traffic at certain points of the day which makes me nervous to run. Earlier this year I was running on the side of the road (no sidewalks in country running) facing traffic and had a car pass a buggy and zip past me from behind me so fast I had no idea he was there. He was heading the same direction I was and passed he stayed on the left side of the road much longer than he needed too. Had I taken a step to the right at all he would have hit me. I have also had a truck purposely swerved toward me and drive by laughing. Pretending you might hit someone isn’t funny. I turned around in both of these instances and went home. I was shaken more than a little. Now I try to only run after the town has cleared from the factory worker traffic.

Thank you Staci! I am so beyond thankful that you were okay. That is absolutely terrible… it makes me sick. I’m glad you are running at a time you won’t be with the traffic. That is just terrible.

I hope you have a beautiful day and thanks for sharing.

Totally agree with Andrew on quick loaf cutting. Best way to avoid a corner piece, but also keep it fresh. Cut from the middle and push the ends together = never having a dried out crusty side.

My Dad tax = any dark choc Kit Kats (rare) or Almond Joys (they are usually happy to get rid of those).

Reply

Hahah putting it together definitely would have helped;) Oh those are definitely rare and WHY DO PEOPLE NOT LIKE ALMOND JOYS!? The chocolate and coconut combo is so so good. Have a great day and enjoy the tax!

Reply

Glad that you’re OK! I’ve definitely had some close calls with cars when alleys and cross streets intersect the street I’m running on. People don’t always pay attention and often roll through stop signs or are looking at their phones and not noticing the humans around them on foot. :/

I’m handing out candy this year to trick-or-treaters, so I’m looking forward to snagging some of the candy from our bowl throughout the night! Hope that y’all have a fun Halloween, and good luck with your scary movie, Janae!

Reply

Yes yes yes. I’m glad you are okay too after you close calls, so so scary. Oh enjoy passing out candy! Thanks Natalie!

Reply

I always take a “mommy tax” whenever I open/get a snack or candy item for my toddler. She’s used to it now and will hand me pieces of whatever she is eating and say it’s my mommy tax. I’m a sucker for baby ruth, payday and peanut m&ms (apparently all things peanut!)

Reply

Hahaha thank you for sharing this tip… I’ll start young with Skye doing this:) I hope you get all of the peanut treats!

Reply

how scary will the movie be – my go to’s are like Monsters University and Hocus Pocus. I think Andrew might have different ideas. Looks like you guys are off to a great start for Halloween 2018 – enjoy!

Reply

Hahaha yeah, Andrew probably has something a bit more scary in mind;) But I LOVE your choices. Thanks Christina, enjoy your day!

Reply

Glad you weren’t hit! I was hit by a car turning right into a crosswalk as I was crossing (legally). They never stopped either. People don’t look when turning into crosswalks for pedestrians! I avoid all intersections now :-(

Reply

YOU WERE HIT AND THEY DIDN”T EVEN STOP?! I can’t. That must have been terrifying. I am so glad you are okay. So so scary.

Reply

Close calls are scary! Our path follows a highway and people are sorta on auto pilot. My friend and I had a close call last year during winter running that involved a car sliding on ice toward us-our Yax Trax and awareness pretty much save us.

I go candy/treat free a month out from Thanksgiving every year. I have such a problem with the candy being in the house plus it makes the pie on Thanksgiving taste so much better! Now I am really excited to test the new M&M flavor-thanks for sharing!
-Snuggle first-bubble to sleep
-I cannot handle scary- I think the last scary movie I attempted was Blair Witch project when it came out.

Have a super awesome Halloween with your fun family!

Reply

Jenny. Oh my goodness. That is so so scary. I am so thankful that you had your Yax Trax on and that you guys knew what was happening and got away. That is scary.

I hope you have a wonderful day and I like your method of snuggle then bubble. Your pie is going to taste amazing this year:) Hahah enjoy a scare free night for me… I’m going to be terrified. Thanks!

Oh my gosh I am not a scary movies person. I’ll just let you have fun (…for the both of us) watching what you and Andrew watch in your little personal bubble in Utah. This evening, anyway, I am subbing two back to back classes at the gym because most of the instructors are moms with kids and have to go take care of ALL THINGS HALLOWEEN so their kids have a good fun day.

M&Ms have always been my favorite grocery store candy (well, butterfingers I also love, but m&ms sort of have my heart…) even though I shouldn’t buy them–for some stupid personal reasons that would sound a little bit too much like “Stephanie’s getting on a soap box” AND because when they are around I have ZERO WILLPOWER. That said, I want to try these hot cocoa ones. That sounds way too good. Watch–I’ll probably find them in the grocery stores by me right when it’s time for me to spend fifty thousand hours a day sitting down grading final essays and exams in early December, and I will just have hand-to-mouth-syndrome where I get a big bag and in 40 minutes it’s gone because the hand just goes between the bag and the mouth like it’s an automatic little machine and I am reading a final paper and not even noticing…

That run-thru hat is on my wish list. I am sort of the queen of running hats (I think I have 6 or 7 already?!?), and the ones I have from Brooks are by far my most favorite. I’ve already been wanting the Dash hoodie in the super high-visibility neon yellow color anyway (visibility is a good thing!!!), so the hat will just match, right? ;)

GOOD THING that car did not make you its hood ornament–and the person driving it realized just in the nick of time what danger there was. BAD ON THE DRIVER though for letting herself get distracted with something! I think so often we don’t even think about what we are DOING when we drive. Seriously. We’re hurtling ourselves and two tons of steel into the world and the potential for big bad danger is everywhere.

Hope y’all have a good Halloween! :)

I’ve had a couple very close calls. One time I was running across a street and a car was opposite me at a stop sign. He waited and waited and waited and then pulled out right when I was in the middle of the street. He was NOT paying attention. The other time I was running on a trail but through a busy commercial area. (Duh cars, pay attention.) A woman was stopped at the stop sign and as I ran past her, she started to go. I actually slammed the hood of the car with my hand to push myself away from the grill and probably made her poop her pants. If I see a car backing out of a driveway, I stop. If I see a car at a stop sign and I have the right-of-way, I actually hold up my hand like a crossing guard “Stop.” People are so distracted by their phones that they don’t pay attention to other cars let alone runners.

We had Beggar’s Night last night. Our city does trick or treating the night before Halloween and all of the kids have to tell jokes to get candy. My favorite last night? What were Tigger and Christopher Robin looking for in the bathroom? Pooh! An oldie by goodie – Where does the king keep his armies? In his sleevies!

Reply

People are idiots. I hate it when they aren’t paying attention while driving.

My husband gets teased at my parents house for cutting bread that way! Haha. He will be glad to know he’s not the only one.

I hate scary movies. The scariest I watch is things like I Am Legend. I hate them!

I’ll be eating their candy…I’m pretty sure they forget about it. I actually try not to. But after a week of it sitting in the buckets I just add it to the family candy spot so we all end up eating it. Is that fair haha?

Reply

I haven’t had any close calls with cars while running…but I very nearly hit a deer on my bike once!

I definitely take mommy tax. Twix and kit kats are my usual, but i just tried a peanut butter snickers from my kids stash and that might be my new favorite!

My scary movies are all pretty kid friendly. I just can’t turn my mind off if I watch them any more (since becoming a mom). Last night i watched the sixth sense with my husband thinking that one was pretty safe since I had seen it before, but nope! Still scared at 1am.

And totally have a personal bubble when I sleep. My husband likes to cuddle and if he even has one finger on me, all I can think is “finger finger finger”

Reply

So glad you are safe! There are sooo many horribly distracted drivers out there!! Love the bright hat and I am now starting the hunt for those M&Ms!!! YUMMY!

Reply

100% personal bubble sleeper. My husband and I even have our own blankets in our king sized bed.

That story about almost being hit by a car is why I pretty much don’t trust any driver. Unless I make eye contact with them I don’t cross the street. I do a lot of my running before the sun comes up and I can’t see the drivers face so I just wait. I’d rather have to wait an extra second or two than end up a pancake.

Reply

Yes, definitely eat some of the candy, but we usually also donate some (usually someone at school collects to send to troops overseas), and I sneak some out for my office candy dish. I get the candy corn and an occasional caramel/nut/chocolate combination.

I’m so very glad you and that distracted driver avoided something terrible! A couple of times, I’ve knocked on the side of cars when they’ve pulled in front of me at a crosswalk–they look left when preparing to turn right, but drift across the walk instead of stopping at the sign. Grr.

I’m not crazy about scary movies like I was as a teenager. I did just binge watch the Netflix series Haunting at Hill House. It was so good, though I wasn’t crazy about the last episode. It definitely wasn’t a slasher, though.

Burpees are bad, but they help build mental toughness, LOL! And you can always do another burpee: fall down, fall up.

Happy Halloween!!

Reply

Glad you are ok! That would shake me up too! No scary movies for me! I hope you, Andrew, and the kids have a fabulous Day today and enjoy all the treats. Any good books you would recommend reading? I know you posted a few before.

Uhhhhh…I like my personal space when sleeping so much that just a few months ago we swapped our king comforter for 2 twin comforters. We still share a bed but now we have our own sets of blankets. It took us 13.5 years of marriage to figure this out but we are now both sleeping so much better when we aren’t fighting over covers or needing different temperature/blanket amounts at night. My gift to my husband a few years ago was an electric blanket because he gets so much colder than me at night. I know it’s weird sounding but it’s actually really common in European countries and now after doing it for a few months, I am fully on board!

Reply

I even hate biking on roads with traffic. These days I stick to trails.
I like the ends of loaves so I’ll gladly eat the leftover bits from your house!
I’m not really into scary movies but I usually watch something spooky on Halloween.
Hope you all have a fun day!

Reply

We totally have the parent tax when it comes to the kid’s candy. My son last night said this might be his last year trick or treating and I told him he wasn’t just getting candy for himself. : )
I like snuggling at night but then leave me alone I need my spot on the bed.
I can handle the old scary movies like Nightmare on Elm Street, those I can watch because they are completely ridiculous. The newer ones that are more psychological in nature I can’t watch they are too real for me.

Reply

Is the Run Thru hat also reflective or is it just neon? I have found in really dark places even neon can be hard to see! I want to get a reflective hat for my sister since she runs early in the morning! Gotta keep our big sister’s safe!

Reply

The detail on it is reflective but yes I agree… in really dark places neon isn’t as bright as I would like. KEEP HER SAFE!!! The coat that I had with it is awesome too! Brooks canopy jacket!

Reply

OOH man, yoga and ice cream sounds like the PERFECT date night…I’m going to have to borrow this great idea :)

I like to start out cuddling when we go to sleep and usually within 30 minutes or so, I decide that I want my own space and I nudge him to the other side of the bed ;)

I have had a few close calls with cars when running and it definitely makes me want to stick to trails! Yikes! I am glad that you are okay!

I am on the fence about scary movies…I don’t seek them out but I’ll watch (through my fingers) if other people are watching haha.

Happy Halloween! I hope you, Andrew and the kids have a wonderful time tonight!

Reply

Dad and Mom tax is very real at our house. The kids try to hide their candy from Dad because he eats anything chocolate. I try to limit myself to their Snickers and Yorks.

My sleep bubble varies. If I’m cold, I’m a gecko on my poor husband. But if I’m hot or he’s sweaty, my sleep bubble is as far away as possible, sometimes clear out to the couch.

My closest call with a car required a volleyball dive across an intersection to avoid being hit. I had scars from the road rash for years.

Scary movies…eh. *shrug* Generally don’t scare me but also generally have otherwise boring plots so I rarely watch them, not worth my time. (I’m assuming you don’t mean slasher/gory types of scary movies…I avoid those just because they are the weird combo of ridiculous and gross.)

Reply

Hahaha enjoy the Snickers and Yorks (that was my mom’s mom tax growing up too) tonight!
Interesting about your bubble variations… very interesting.
A dive across the intersection? That is terrifying. I am so thankful you were okay!

Reply

Yes! My kids know mom and dad eat basically all the chocolate out of their Halloween stash and they get the rest. :)
No super close calls with cars but I’ve learned that when I’m crossing a street (going against traffic) and a car is turning right into that street they will not look right first and see you – I just usually go behind them or wave til they see me. What a scary close call for you!!! :(

Reply

Hahah enjoy all of the chocolate tonight! It’s really true… I need to just expect they aren’t paying attention and looking and go from there because odds are these days that a good chunk of people really are not paying attention. Thanks Laura and I hope you have a wonderful Halloween!

Reply

Send me the pumpkin loaf ends. I like corner brownies, too. (but I only like fudgie brownies)

Thank goodness you were okay! I have been actually hit while crossing the street on my way to work (not running). I was on the hood of her car but I was okay. I was almost hit by a woman trying to make the light after dropping her kids off at school. I was already in the middle of the crosswalk, she never bothered to look. The other time a woman was texting as she was turning and never even knew I had to jump back to the curb. (the last two times I was walk my dog. Hit my dog and I’m going to be a crazy person).

I like scary movies. I like to move about freely while I sleep. Cuddle for a while and then get on your own side of the bed.

Reply

I totally will… that is the perfect combo!
Thank you so much and I can’t believe you were hit… so glad you were okay. WHAT IS GOING ON WITH THESE DRIVERS?! Stay safe out there.
Enjoy a scary movie tonight:)

Reply

I knew we were destined to be internet friends…milky ways are my favorite too! I HATE scary movies, my husband gets a kick out of how jumpy I am at non scary movies…tense scenes put me on edge.
I am a non bubble person and my wonderful husband let’s me snuggle up next to him each night and then carefully rolls me off when I fall asleep and then he turns away. If I had it my way I’d be next to him the whole night!
I never trust any car…its always safer to stop and let them go even if you think they see you!

Reply

YES YES YES!! I hope you enjoy all of the Milky Ways today! Do you have to watch a scary movie with your husband tonight? Andrew is jealous of your nonbubble haha! Yes yes yes… it really is. Thanks Brenda and have a wonderful day!

Reply

Wow! Scary close call! I’m glad YOU were aware. That is so important for runners!
Those M&Ms look AMAZING!! I need them in my life ASAP!! My fave M&Ms so far is Peanut Butter. I do NOT like Reeses Pieces, but can’t stop/won’t stop PB M&Ms!
I sleep pretty much on top of my man. I LOVE to cuddle and am super glad he does too!
I cannot do scary movies. When I was nine I watched Poltergiest and slept with my sister for nine months!! I don’t even like previews that are scary. Have you seen the previews for The Nun??!?!? I almost peed my pants at the preview and then I was mad they showed it! Lol!
Have fun tonight with those cute kiddos! <3

Reply

Thank you so much Lisa!
That is so interesting that Reeses Pieces do not do it for you… maybe it’s the different pb: chocolate ratio that doesn’t do it for you!
Yep, saw that and refuse to ever watch anything like that one. Thank you and I hope your day is a great one full of PB M&Ms!

Reply

I love scary movies – especially the cheesy ones from the 70’s and 80’s that are more funny than scary.
I’m answering the door tonight and giving out glow sticks instead of candy this year. I hope you all have a fun Halloween!

Reply

Hahah yes… those ones are so much better! Our kids would LOVE getting glow sticks. Great idea!

Reply

Oh man I know that feeling of almost being hit!! I now look at the persons eyes to make sure they are looking up and I wave and mouth I’m going. Every single time. I think it annoys some people but oh well! Too many texting and driving! Be safe!

I’m not a big candy person but give me ice cream!

Reply

YES YES YES… I agree. I really hope that computer cars eventually work for everyone someday because there are too many deaths because people refuse to put their phones away. I hope you have some delicious ice cream today!

Parents reading: Do you eat your kid’s Halloween candy?
My “babies” are now 19 and 15 {sniffle}, so instead I just make sure whatever candy we’re passing out to trick-or-treaters is something that I like so that I can eat a couple pieces :) I used to steal Nerds and Reeses Peanut Butter Cups from my kids when they were little. #mommytax
When you sleep… personal bubble or not so much?
Personal bubble! We have a king-sized bed and we’re both big followers of the “stay on your own side” rule. That picture is one of the scariest things I’ve ever seen, lol
Have you had any close calls with cars while running?
I almost got hit crossing the street once. I had the right of way and the driver of the car just wasn’t paying attention. It really freaked me out and I don’t think I went running again for a week or two.
How do you feel about scary movies?
We’re planning on watching Hocus Pocus tonight, which is about as scary as I get. I liked them as a teenager, but once I became a parent, I just couldn’t handle them anymore.
I can’t wait to see pics of the kiddos dressed up!

Reply

I think that is a great idea on how to get in your candy this year. I’ll send you any nerds that we get:) Enjoy your side of the bed tonight and Hocus Pocus (maybe I can convince him to watch that;)!
I am SO glad that you weren’t hit… that is so so scary!

Reply

Bubble for sure! Good luck with the scary movie…I can’t watch.

Reply

Thank you for the good luck… I need it! Enjoy your bubble tonight haha:)

Reply

I don’t want someone anywhere near me when I sleep – I’d much prefer my own bed in my own room!

In the past the kids have combined their candy together, each person in the family gets to fill up a quart size ziploc and the rest gets brought to our works. I go for the Baby Ruths, Mounds/Almond Joy, $100,000 bars. Things i wouldn’t normally eat (on the rate occasion I buy candy it is usually M&Ms or the Hersey’s from when we think we may make Smores (the fixings usually never make it long enough to get to the firepit). We have a kid in braces this year so there is a lot she can’t eat :(

Reply

Haha yes… we need space! I like your candy choices… all very good. Oh I remember the braces years of trick or treating… I hope she gets some good treats that she can eat. Enjoy your day Jessey!

Reply

We totally eat some of the candy. Our kids love to share! My favourites are all the chocolate things. ALL.THE.CHOCOLATE. I have been known to enjoy the Swedish berries and fish though as well.

We have a total personal bubble rule at night. We have a king sized bed and call the middle “no man’s land”. No crossing. We don’t share blankets either. My husband likes a quilt only and I like a sheet with many blankets. I feel we love each other best because of this :)

Reply

ENJOY the chocolate tonight and Swedish berries (I must know more)! BAHAHA I laughed so hard about no man’s land. I am starting that tonight;) You are the best.

Reply

Not a fan of scary movies but I told my husband that I will watch one tonight with him. He has the movie, “A Quiet Place”, picked out and ready to go. All of the lights will be on in the house afterwards and he is required to be by my side the rest of the night…except when going to sleep…bubble!

Reply

Oh we watched that… I actually really liked that one! Good luck and let me know what you think of it… enjoy the bubble while you sleep:)

Reply

Yikes… I run mostly along fairly busy roads so I’ve come close to being hit a few times. I’ve come to just never trust that drivers notice me; I don’t run in front of a car (especially cars waiting to turn) unless I see them looking right at me.

I have to sleep on my side, facing the left, with one foot sticking out of the sheets (unless it’s really cold, but most of the time in Florida it isn’t). Also, earplugs in and my eyes covered. Ideally with a fan blowing on me. I never realized before but I guess I’m a picky sleeper, haha.

That salad sounds amazing. Even more amazing with a little goat cheese.

Reply

STAY SAFE OUT THERE. It really is so scary. I love your sleeping necessities… sounds like the perfect way to sleep:) Good call on the goat cheese, I’ll add that next time. Have a wonderful day!

Reply

Gotta say, that is the only way to eat quick breads – from the middle! Not only is it the best part, the sides keep it from going stale. It’s all good! :) I do “share” my kids candy. I ask for it, give them big puppy eyes, and they begrudgingly offer me some. LOL! But it has to be chocolate. They can keep all of the Laffy Taffy and Starburst. Not a fan of that.

Reply

That is very true… maybe he was just trying to be selfless and save me from stale bread;) Enjoy the chocolate tonight!

Reply

I can’t institute a candy tax this year… because, whomp whomp, none of my kids are going trick-or-treating. My youngest just turned 13 and has decided to hang out with a friend instead (friend doesn’t go because she has several food allergies). Anyway, I’m hoping they take a shift on the porch handing out candy – since we get around 200 kids each year!

PS You’re looking forward to changing the clocks to standard time. We’re currently in daylight savings time. Daylight Savings Time “saves” an hour of morning light for the evening :)

Reply

Hahah thank you for helping me out with that… I’ve always been confused about it. I’ll fix it now:) A new stage of life for you guys. AND 200 KIDS A YEAR—> WOW!!

Reply

To get ready for my half, I’m cutting out sweets during the month of November (the race is December 1), except for maybe a piece of pumpkin pie on Thanksgiving. I don’t eat a ton of sweets anyway, but I think this will just be good for me to get ready. With that said, I’m enjoying my last bit of candy for a while today :)

I don’t like to be touched when I sleep. Give me my room!

I’ve had a couple of close calls while running, all while crossing an intersection and the driver not seeing me. It’s scary!

Scary movies…no thank you!

Reply

Good for you! I really think that less sweets helped me on race day! Enjoy that candy today:) YES TO GIVE ME ROOM! Stay safe out there and enjoy your scary movie free evening;)

Reply

I’m terrible with scary movies, like just really can’t watch them. We saw Free Solo this weekend (about Alex Honnold’s free climb of El Cap) and that was scary enough for me. I was sore the next day from holding so much tension. #bigwimp

Reply

Oh yes… that sounds crazy intense! Hahaha you’re not alone:) Have a great Halloween Michelle!

Reply

The hot cocoa m&ms will only be at Walmart stores! I just looked online and it appears they are in stock at the one about a mile from my office. Might need a midday walk later this week.

Reply

IT BETTER BE!! Let me know what you think!

Reply

I love your date night swaps idea! We need to start date nights back up just as soon as we are out of the super-newborn phase here. Newborns are definitely a stress on our relationship.
I don’t eat much of my kiddo’s Halloween candy – my husband does though! We just have a two year old, but I am going to try swapping his candy for teddy grahams. We’ll see how that goes over..
Totally sleep with a personal bubble.
No close calls with running – I tend to stick to trails. My husband has had a few close calls biking.
Scary movies are okay if it’s ghosts-creepy. I have a really tough time watching anything bloody. I like the “I’ll watch one on Halloween” compromise – that’s perfect!

Reply

They really are (congrats though)! Andrew and I were realizing we need to get to know each other again outside of mom and dad status haha. Good luck with sleep and getting back into date nights! I’m with you… ghosts I can do, violence/blood no thank you! Have a wonderful day and I’m glad your husband is okay after those close calls!

Reply

No really close calls with cars, but I do notice that people don’t move over like they used to! They stick right by the white line and sometimes it make me a little nervous…like, you see me right??? Especially when its dark in the early AM.
I don’t have any kids to steal candy from but we have a giant bowl at work so I get into that a little too often ;)
I just wanted to say, since you mentioned dying after 4 burpees…my friend at the gym just completed a 100-day burpee challenge. She started Day 1 with 1 burpee and increased by 1 each day until she did 100 burpees today. In total, she did several thousand burpees! I give her a ton of credit, I started with her and quit after day 40 or something, yikes!!
Have a great Halloween! :) :)

You know about my close call. I’m glad you are OK. I can’t believe you didn’t tell me about that yesterday!!

And the M&Ms will only be at Target (because I’m nuts like that and had to find out asap where to run out and buy them). They aren’t on shelves until tomorrow though…

I’m running NYC and it’s my first marathon and I’m SO NERVOUS! Luckily I can carb load with some candy today and tomorrow – that’s a great way to fuel, right? Just kidding…I’ll collect my mom tax tonight and indulge in it on Sunday afternoon!

GOOD LUCK JAMIE!!!!! I am cheering for you and please let me know how it goes and enjoy that post-race candy!

HAPPY HALLOWEEN!

Very scary…it’s happened to me countless times. Drivers are so distracted. I always make eye contact and assume they don’t see me. I also realized that when someone is making a right turn….they never look both ways! They look for cars coming from the left, but never for runners or pedestrians. I’m glad you are ok!

I love love love to be touched as I’m falling asleep…I practically beg my hubby for massages or back scratches every night. But once I’m asleep, yes…that would be a nightmare. The only thing I like is one of my cats sleeping with me or on me. But if he tries to drape himself all over me I fling the body part away. Hahahaha

Burpees….I hate them also! So, we have this boxing instructor that makes us do them. A LOT OF THEM! We will have to punch the bag…then he yells ‘DOWN!’ and we burpee for like 20-30 secs…then we get up and punch the heavy bag…repeat until I want to cry.
Sometimes he makes us do this drill called ‘around the world’, where we have to punch the bag….then when he yells ‘DOWN’ we have to burpee and move to the next bag and punch…then repeat this moving to each of the 16 bags in the room….on EACH SIDE of the bag! So that’s like 32 burpees! And he starts going faster and faster…so at a certain point you really have to be quick to get up again and get a few punches in before you get trampled by the person next to you! It’s insane…if you ever visit northern NJ and want to try it…it really is so much fun…and a great workout. The only thing besides running that REALLY gets my endorphins up.

Have a great time today/tonight!

Hi from Canada!

I just recently found your blog and I LOVE it! Congratulations on your sub 3! I have a question about Megan’s workout for runners … is it a “do at home” workout or does it require gym equipment?

Thanks for being so inspiring.

Hey Carol!!! I’ve just been doing them at home now (the first one I did at the gym)… I have to get creative for a bench but other than that some weights and a mat has been all I needed! Let me know if you try it! Have a wonderful rest of your day!

Hi Janae,
Thank you! I purchased Megan’s workout for runners. I did the leg workout today – I may not be able to walk tomorrow, let alone run ha ha. I hope you are having a great day!

I am definitely NOT a fan of scary movies.

I did NYC in 2011 as well! – just read your recap and looks like we finished 5 minutes apart – well depending on the corral wave time I guess. I would love to go back some day – if only the race fee wasn’t astronomical haha

Personal bubble – but that is mostly because my partner hates being touched while he sleeps as well – the whole wrapped around each other and sleep thing does not work haha!

Happy Halloween and have fun eating your kids candy :)

Oh gosh, that picture of the sleeping family cracked me up—I need some space when I’m asleep! I sweat too much for all that.

I haven’t had a scary almost-encounter like that while running, but I was crossing at a crosswalk (with the walk signal on!), and a car just blew through on a red. I had to jump back.

All about the Reece’s pumpkins and NO SCARY MOVIES!!!

Oh my goodness, close calls are so scary! I’m glad you’re okay.

We definitely eat our kids’ halloween candy! Luckily, our oldest doesn’t even like candy so his is 100% fair game. The younger one has learned to count and track his favorites so he’s harder to deal with.

I do not like being touched while I sleep! Nothing is worse than sleeping in something smaller than a king bed. It doesn’t help that I worked more than 10 years on 24 hour shifts where I slept alone in a twin bed and now I’m a night shift nurse so I sleep alone during the day time 4 days a week. I have so much trouble sleeping the nights I am home just sharing a bed at all. We didn’t share our bed with our kids when they were little for the most part. Only once they were toddlers and they were sick or something. I don’t mind sharing and cuddling with their sweet squishy little bodies. I just don’t want to be touched under normal circumstances of sleeping.

On the 27th of September my 19 years old daughter was severely hit by a car while crossing a pedestrian crossing on her way to university. She was wearing leather ankle boots, therefore has not been amputated on the road. She has had so far 3 surgeries. She has lost her independence. She is plastered until end of January. After that, she doesn’t know. She does not know how she will walk. She does not know if her foot will work and for how long.
Her future is now made of crutches, wheelchair, uncertainties, pain.
She was a runner and an active outdoor young woman.
The driver of the car said she is sorry and sent her a 50$ voucher. She arrived full speed on. It was a clear blue sky morning, dry roads, no fog.
I am speechless and I hurt.
My last run was on the 26th of September…

I absolutely agree about the person driving and not noticing you with her phone. AND YOU WERE IN REFLECTIVE GEAR! In Suburban Beaverton,Oregon (we don’t have tracks or trails which are exclused to Nike) we deal with this constantly. I honestly think that cars are more dangerous to runnerase that someone kidnapping.
