It’s Catching Up to Me + Come What May + A Question from Andrew: + Tangents

MOST IMPORTANTLY TODAY… I want to share about an amazing race that is going on this weekend that you can find HERE!  The race is in Tigard, OR and you can run it virtually too!

Here is why they do the race:

Our son, Keith was diagnosed with brain cancer at age 3.  He fought for 19 months and eventually, passed away from the disease.  As a result of our experience and his, I felt compelled to do something to help improve the options for children’s research.  Even for children who survive, the side-effects are ugly and life long.  I have a passion for running and Keith loved superheroes, so I thought we could combine those two things and come up with a fun, meaningful way to celebrate Keith’s life and hopefully make a difference in the life of others by raising money for cancer research.  We came up with the superhero-themed Hero-Up Half-Marathon, 5K and Kids’ Race.  We hold it every year in September, which is the month of Keith’s passing and also Children’s Cancer Awareness month.  My family, friends and community come together to run, volunteer and work to make each year a huge success.  It is an enormous outpouring of strength to see our “village” come together to support us and to help raise money for children’s cancer research.

100% of race net proceeds go directly to children’s cancer research funding.  Nobody makes any money on this race!  You can participate by running, volunteering, sponsoring, or donating directly on our website.  We’d love to have you join our team of superheroes fighting against children’s cancer.

I hope your Tuesday is a great one!

My Monday morning run started nice and early and a few miles into the run we saw an owl!  He was just hanging out and watching over us.

IMG 0818

I was able to run with Josse.  I had 8 miles on the schedule and we finished with a 9:00 pace.  I’ve got a really fun speed workout to do today and I want to make sure I go into it as well rested as possible.  Josse has had some injuries she has been dealing with for a while but things are starting to all come together for her now and she’ll be running the St. George Marathon too.  It is going to be a party down there.   We should plan a big meet-up afterwards (let me know if you will be running or in town for the marathon)!!

IMG 0819

Then Andrew went for his run.  Isn’t it sweet that we have the same favorite running shoe at the moment—>  The Levitates.  Taking pictures next to his feet make my feet look smaller than the size 10 that they are.

IMG 0884

After we took Brooke to school I took Skye on a walk.  She wasn’t very thrilled about life—>  Brooke left her all weekend and then left again to go to school.

IMG 0881

Skye is entering the stage where she loves to make messes!

IMG 0890

Dinner was fabulous and included cauliflower gnocchi with pesto, steak, edamame, milk and chocolate coconut almonds:)

IMG 0910

———————————————————————————————

I’ve got some random tangents to discuss with you today:

*I have a new handheld water bottle (I’m going to run with it a bit more before I make my decision on how much I love it) but I think Skye is convinced it is a new bottle for her.

IMG 0708

*Beretta has started to use my Hyperions for a pillow… I tried to offer her the glycerins (they have way more cushion) but she likes more of a firm pillow it turns out.

IMG 0636

*We went on a short Sunday walk with my family and that was the most movement I did the entire day.  I love a rest day each week.  Marathon training is starting to catch up with me.  I’m not feeling as springy as I was a few weeks ago and my hip flexors are tightening up!  BUT the key with this point of training (39 days until race day) is to fulfill these workouts even though I am feeling a bit tired…  Because before the marathon I will have the taper so I’ll be more rested and fresh but I’ll have the fitness from these weeks now to get me across the finish line in the time that I want.

IMG 0785

*At some point we will learn that you really can’t ever bring too many outfits for Skye whenever we go somewhere.  Luckily she didn’t mind going on a walk in just her diaper.

IMG 0801

*I ran 18 miles with one of Knox’s toys.  I’m not sure how it got in my belt and how I didn’t notice it until the end but I’m wondering if Knox put it in there for me.

IMG 0709

*”Where the mind goes, the body follows.”  I just want to highlight Kara’s entire book.

IMG 0736

*My coach sent me these tips and I have officially set a bedtime for myself.  Why work so hard out there during my workouts if I can’t do the other stuff that is so important (like sleep) too?!  The kids go to bed at 7:30 so I’m putting myself to bed at 9:30-10 until the marathon.  I went to bed at 9:30 on Sunday night and woke up feeling so good Monday morning.  It’s so hard to not take advantage of those hours at night when we don’t have kids and stay up really late but I’m not giving my body the time it needs to recover from my running.  Time to focus!!

Screen Shot 2018 08 25 at 4 22 17 PM

*This also includes just spending more time on the couch because sitting still is kind of hard for me to do too.  It’s not always possible with the kids but when it is, I’m taking advantage of it and the laundry or dishes can wait.

IMG 0817

*TWENTY MILES THIS SATURDAY.  That is almost a marathon;)  I am going to experiment with Tailwind in addition to my huma gels during this run!  This long run has a workout mixed into it too which I kind of love because it makes it easier for me to split up the miles into smaller segments in my brain to accomplish.

IMG 0732

*Let’s just hope that this one doesn’t feel like last weekend’s long run but I was listening to a church talk (this one) during my walk yesterday and I really loved it and applied it to running too:

“COME WHAT MAY, AND LOVE IT…  every life has peaks and shadows and times when it seems the birds don’t sing and bells don’t ring.  Yet in spite of discouragement and adversity, those who are happiest seem to have a way of learning from difficult times, becoming stronger, wiser, and happier as a result.  If we approach adversities wisely, our hardest times can be times of greatest growth, which in turn can lead toward times of greatest happiness.”  <— Bring on the really hard workouts or days that don’t feel great because that is what is going to make us stronger and smarter to crush our running goals.

An important question from Andrew.  As you know, Halloween is his favorite and he goes a bit overboard (I call it overboard, he calls it a need) on decorating our house for the holiday.  Is September too early or should he wait until October 1st to get his decorations up?

Those of you that train for marathons—>  How many 20 milers do you usually do in your training cycle?

Outside of running… what is something that you are doing to help your running?  Let’s learn from each other!

Who will be in town for the St. George Marathon!?  Should we plan something after?

I have always been a girl to put things up early ….so go for it!! (But, I am also that girl who then wants EVERYTHING down the day after the holiday because I am pretty DONE with it!)

Reply

Andrew is very thankful for your comment;) YES… I am just like you and like to get it put away the second the holiday is over!

Reply

I say go all out with decorating! We always put up our Christmas tree the first weekend after Halloween — I always figure, it’s so much work to set it all up, might as well enjoy it for two full months :)

Reply

Oh that is awesome! Seriously… why not just enjoy it for longer:) I just do not want to rush through these last few weeks of warmth in Utah hahaha. I hope you are having a great morning Laura!

Reply

Tell Andrew he is allowed to put up Halloween decorations RIGHT NOW. Also I’m pretty sure that once he puts them up, you’d be allowed to start in on the Halloween candy. It’s a rule, I think.

Reply

HAHA I like this compromise a lot. I hope you are having a beautiful day Victoria and keep inspiring me with all of your training.

Reply

So jealous of your shoe game! What running shoe is your favorite that is both cushioning and stability? I used to run in more of a cushioned shoe but after I had a baby I now feel like I need one with more stability too.

Reply

No I haven’t! I have tried the Ravennas and I love those so I will give the Ghosts a try. Thanks! They are on their way to my house :)

Good luck on those long runs coming up!

Reply

Wait until Oct 1 haha. The only holiday I don’t mind decorating early for is Christmas but enjoy when it all comes down:) What are Brooke, Knox, and Skye dressing up as?

Reply

I’m with you on that! That is a great question… I can’t believe we don’t have the most important part figured out yet! I wonder if I could talk everyone into a family themed costume:) Have an amazing day Ash!

Reply

I run at least two 20-milers during training. Last year, I think I did two 20s and one 22 miler! Probably excessive but I crushed my marathon last year so maybe it helped!

Outside of running – I do LOTS of yoga and LOTS of swimming. My left hip has been acting up a ton (which isn’t unusual at this point in training), so I’m taking a few days off the road and staying in the pool. Better to back off a bit now then end up injured before race day!

Reply

You rocked your marathon so you must be doing something right! You inspire me with your yoga… and I should jump in the pool! YOU ARE SO SMART. I agree, I would rather show up a tiny bit undertrained than overtrained/injured. You’ve got this Arthi!

Reply

October 1 and not before!

Reply

I’m with you!

I love decorating for holidays! Especially Halloween, and Christmas. But I wait until October to put up Halloween. In September, I put out all the fall stuff, then add in the Halloween, then after Halloween, take that down and put up some Thanksgiving stuff. But, you guys do you! :)
My marathon training has 3 20mile runs. I usually have 1 that feels awful, but usually the other 2 feel pretty good.
During training cycles, when I do a lot of pilates or yoga, those are the cycles I tend to feel the best. Doing something that stretches the muscles and helps re-center the mind, sure seems to help me. What about you? What do you like to do outside of running? ;)
I’m so excited for you to run St. George!! You have worked hard and smart! I think you are absolutely going to KILL it!!

Reply

Maybe we should get out some fall stuff to help him ease into the Halloween festivities. Isn’t it crazy how our long runs can differ so much from one another… one awful, two great = I feel like that is totally me too! I feel like I have zero time to do anything else right now ha but my favorite is spin:) Thank you so much, I’m excited! I hope you are having an amazing day and thanks for inspiring me to get back to yoga or try out pilates!

Reply

I love this Hero Up race. I’m definitely going to sign up for the virtual race! Thank you for sharing it.

I don’t think it’s ever too early to decorate for anything. I kind of live by the “just do you” motto when it comes to stuff like that. By the way, your steak dinner looks AMAZING.

OMG, Janae, I ran some Utah hills as part of my speed work this morning, and those hills are NO JOKE!! So bummed that I won’t get to see you while I’m in town!! :/ I’m actually going to be here until Thursday, so text me if you’re free for dinner tomorrow!

Reply

Yes… the just do you motto is the best way to live:) I am SO sorry about tonight and tomorrow is Brooke’s soccer game. I am SO sorry! I hope you are having a beautiful day and great job on those hills! YOU ARE AMAZING!

Reply

swimming is my favorite way to supplement my training! it is so relaxing but i also leave the pool feeling pretty worn out and i feel like it translates to running by improving my overall fitness- especially when i work on breath control drills!

Reply

Yes… swimming is so so hard but so good on our joints/muscles/body. I need to join you and jump in the pool. I hope you are having a great Tuesday Kathryn and thanks so much!

Reply

September 1 is fair game for Halloween stuff to go up!!! (if the weather would cooperate and start cooling down at that time too it would be even better!) I do 3-4 twenty mile runs (20-24 miles) when I’m training for a marathon. That’s what seems to work well for me :)

Reply

It is cooling down here ahhhhh!?! You go up to a 24 miler… that is AWESOME Donna! Yes, keep doing what works best for you… I love it!

Reply

I do best with only one 20 miler–way less than most people but I’ve found that more than one is too much given my already high mileage during marathon training and I tend to burn out really fast (I think so much has to do with life outside of running–little kids, lack of sleep, working full time PLUS marathon training is just too much. I tend to think less is more for me). To each his own and more power to you if you do more 2-3!! :)

Um, it’s never too early for Halloween decorations. IMO.

Reply

You keep doing what works for you, that sounds perfect Mollie. You have SO much on your plate right now, it sounds like you found the perfect balance. Have a wonderful day Mollie!

Reply

Always love your humility and positivity during the hard stuff! Rooting for you!

My newest thing to help my running->paddle boarding! It’s extremely relaxing and stress relieving for me but it also strengthens your core!

I’m not a big halloween gal myself, so I would say wait till October 1st…or 15th…

ahah! Have a great week!

PS. I placed second in my age group in my 5k this weekend that I was telling you about that ended in the track! It was TOUGH and not a PR but I’m really happy with the result.

Reply

2nd in your age group—> GO ELEANOR GO!! You are absolutely amazing! Oh, I need to try paddle boarding, that is awesome Eleanor! Haha Andrew could not wait until the 15th, that would be torture for him;) Have an amazing day and I hope you are still enjoying your accomplishment from this last weekend!

Reply

Hahaha Andrew! I think Sep 1 is too early since it’s still summer, but September 22nd you are good to go !!

I only do one 20 or 21 in my marathon training. I really need to improve my footwear to help my overall body and running, but I dont want to spend a lot of money so idk what shoes I’m gunna get !

Reply

Have you thought of buying the earlier editions of shoes… they are usually on sale that way and still amazing shoes that will help your body and running! September 22nd sounds perfect to me:) Have a beautiful day Krista!

Reply

Ah, your coach’s list! #1 is so so hard for me. I’m a night owl by nature. I do get so mad at myself b/c I try to do everything else so well–strength! yoga! rolling! eating well! etc. I get mad at myself when I think about how hard I work on everything else yet don’t prioritize sleep which is so so important.

Andrew, September is NOT too early!!!! I’ve done it before! Go for it!!!! :)

This will sound kind of strange, but thank you for being real and mentioning how your friend Josse has been suffering from some injuries/niggles. Sometimes on insta/blog land it seems like no one ever gets injured/deals with that kind of thing. I’m glad she’s doing better, and you guys are going to ROCK St. George!!!!!!!!!!! You just never know with running and niggles; you never know when things will turn around, so we just have to always keep the faith :)

Have a FABULOUS day, Janae!!!!!

Reply

YES YES… why is it so hard to prioritize sleep so much! It seriously makes the biggest difference in our training too! Andrew thanks you for your encouragement. YES YES YES… I agree, it’s hard to see on social media sometimes that most of us go through injuries that keep us from doing what we want to do! Thank you Jen, YOU TOO!!

Reply

Im coming all the way from St. Louis, Missouri to run the St. George Marathon (my first one) so nervous! Signed up because I love reading your blog and you always talk so highly of it! Would love to meet ya after! :)

Reply

THIS MAKES ME THE HAPPIEST! AHHHH MANDI! I am so so excited and I cannot wait to meet you. The week of I will include details for a meetup later if it all works out:) I have to meet you. Keep me updated with your training.

October 1st for sure!
I just started my sleep alarm last night.
I just did two 20s and a 22 for Grandma’s training. I liked having a workout in those runs because I couldn’t focus on the mile I was in rather than panicking about the next 8 miles!

Reply

Molly, are you doing Grandma’s next year too? YES… I love workouts in those long runs too, it helps so much! Have a wonderful day!

Reply

Grandma’s was this year for me.
St George is next year!

I’m going to put out my fall/Halloween stuff on September 22. But since Halloween in Andrew’s favorite holiday I see no harm in starting early! Maybe he could start with just a few things and add more and more as time goes on, that way you won’t get sick of it and there will always be new things to look forward to. One thing I will say about kids though- to us it seems like Halloween is right around the corner but to them, two months is reaaallly long. It might be confusing to them to have the house fully decorated too early.

Reply

Oh that’s a really good idea… start small and keep adding, I love that! That is also very true, we might hear ‘how many days until Halloween’ every single day until it is actually Halloween. Have an amazing day Jenny!

Reply

I have 20 this weekend also! This time I have two 19 milers (one done last weekend), and two 20 milers. I just do whatever my coach tells me :) I have to agree though I am getting to the tired phase of training where its just about getting it done.
My race is the same day as your, but in Wisconsin, so we can virtually hang out after LOL.
Love Beretta on the shoes! My dog sleeps on as many pillows as she can find. Or me. She likes to sleep on me. (if you ever see @lucy_the_bulldog_01 on Instagram like one of yours posts, its actually me). I was going to comment on one of your Instagram posts (I feel like we have a lot of the same workouts and schedule for training!) but I figured you’d wonder why a bulldog was commenting ;)
Hope you had a great speedy workout today!

Reply

Okay, I just looked up your account and saw your profile pic of Lucy and oh my goodness, she is THE CUTEST!!! Our kids would love her! I wish we could do our workouts together and please let me know how your 20 goes, you are going to rock it!

Reply

We kind of love Lucy just a little ;)
Your easy runs would be my speed work! I go to Utah (Sandy) every year for work, but this year I’m not going. I always run on the treadmill when I’m there because i’m too scared to run alone, but always think I’m missing out on some beautiful scenery!!
My 20 is just a nice easy one, no workouts or speedy miles in there so I am looking forward to just taking my time and getting it done.
Have a super day!

Reply

Since Halloween is Andrew’s favorite holiday, I would totally encourage him to decorate early!

Before a marathon I usually do a 20, 22 and 24 mile long run.

Reply

20, 22 and 24… GO TAM!! That is awesome:) Andrew loves your comment! Have a wonderful day Tam!

October 1 for Halloween decorations, but he can begin hording all of the decorations right now and bringing out the big rubbermaid containers with the decorations and strategically putting said containers NEAR WHERE he will want to put up decorations–that’s fair game, IMO, AS OF LABOR DAY WEEKEND (so on Monday…). If it’s officially Pumpkin Spice Latte season at Starbucks now, then he can start *preparing for* Halloween.

CAULIFLOWER GNOCCHI!!!!! Tom and I haven’t had that in…oh, wait, 2 weeks! That feels like a long time for us. We are obsessed with it. I love the idea of it as a side for steak. (And–well–yummmmmmm, steak…)

Oh, I wanted to tell you something: yesterday at the store, a customer returned her pair of Levitate 2s because she had buyer’s remorse after going on 2 runs with them (she decided she wanted glycerins instead). My store has this whole thing with selling “once worns” (or sometimes we call them “lightly loved shoes”) at race expos, so the shoes that our rewards club members buy, wear on a couple of runs, and return to us *in great shape* for a different model that might wind up being a better match for how the customer runs–we sell those shoes at a really low price. ANYWAY, these Levitate 2s were my size. My store manager knows that I work 3 jobs and right now have almost no money, and she knows that I am a tried and true Brooks fan, so she cycled out those Levs from the return inventory and had them waiting for me in my employee cubby before the end of my shift! So now I have pristine condition grey Levitate 2s. For free. My day yesterday was made.

And I intentionally wore an outfit with black pants to campus today and shoes that *very well just may hurt my feet* and brought my new Lev 2s as “back up shoes” in case my feet hurt.

(I think this strategy totally earns its hashtag: #sorrynotsorry)

Thursday and Friday are payday for me for the running store and the university. I have a huge pile of bills to pay…and I get to start planning my husband’s birthday (which is in mid-October). I get REALLY EXCITED about birthdays–at least as excited as Andrew gets for Halloween, but maybe moreso…

Reply

Hahah seriously that cauliflower gnocchi is the best, thank you for the recommendation! AHHHH I AM SO SO HAPPY THAT YOU HAVE THE LEVITATES… that story made me so so happy. Enjoy every mile in those! Enjoy all of the bday prep, Tom is so lucky to have you! Enjoy your day Stephanie!

Reply

You know, my Levitates are my running shoe size, which is .5 bigger than my everyday shoe size. I love them so much I don’t even CARE about the extra room in the toe! Imma wear them everywhereeeeeeeeeeeeee!!!!!

:D

Hi Janae! I am remarried also. I would love for you to write about the boundaries and compromises that you and Andrew have put into place to protect your marriage. I am having problems with my husband communicating too much, too freely and about inappropriate topics, etc. This is really affecting our marriage. Advice please!
Thank you!
Bekah

Reply

HEY BEKAH!! Thank you so much for your comment!! Hmmmm that is a tough question! I definitely would not allow inappropriate communication personally… Have you thought of going to couples therapy (I am A HUGE fan of therapy and think that everyone should go if they need to). If you are able to find a good therapist you could have a really grate place to communicate why this hurts you and come up with a great game plan for you and your husband. Good luck Bekah and keep me updated!

Reply

You are totally right about marathon training! I’m feeling a bit tired but I’m making sure to keep getting good miles in. My 20 mile run this weekend went great! It was so dang hot outside but my fuel and hydrated worked perfectly. I’m amazed but at the same time so, so glad! This time around, I’m doing three 20 mile runs with plenty of cut back in between each of them. Just testing it out and seeing how my body reacts to that. Coach thinks I can do it so I’m going to try! Keep stretching and getting in those miles and you will kick butt at yours! :)

I have a Peloton and use cycling for recovery and crosstraining. It’s helped to keep me from burning out and getting injuried.

Reply

Andrew and I want that bike SO bad. WAY TO GO on your 20 miler, you are amazing and yes for fueling and drinking well! Keep me updated with how the three 20 milers go! Have a wonderful day Virjinia!

Thank you for sharing that quote! I’m going through a hard time at work right now, but if I look at it as helping me grow, that helps put a positive spin on it :)
Outside of running…I have plantar fasciitis right now, so I’m stretching and rolling my calves twice a day (and limiting runs to every other day in addition to keeping them short). I try to do some sort of exercise or a set of stretches each night too – sometimes it’s a short yoga routine, or bridges & clamshells, maybe calf raises & a plank. Whatever I haven’t done in the past 24 hours!

Reply

Amber, I am really so sorry about what you are going through right now at work! You are going to come out so strong from all of this. And plantar… boo! Have you ever tried to wear the boots at night? Those SAVE me every time my plantar shows up. They are awesome!

Oh I knew they made socks to sleep in, but not boots like that! Thank you for the recommendation Janae!

Fun fact: yesterday (8-27) was my birthday. I was running with my girls on the cc team and our first mile was 8:27 and it made me so happy :) Took me back to your constant pace of 9:22 when you were pregnant :)

I’m really enjoying this season of running right now. It’s fine!

I would say it’s okay to start decorating some in September but go full out in October. Basic fall decorations with hints of Halloween would be okay but I would say not going too overboard :)

Reply

HAPPY BIRTHDAY SLOAN!!! Oh I love when the numbers align:) I love that you coach cross country and run with the girls. I totally forgot about how my body thrived on one pace each day haha!
I agree with your plan of attack on decorating. Have an amazing day Sloan!

Reply

I love Halloween too, and I plan on putting mine up probably the week after Labor Day! It just gets me in the fall spirit. I normally start with the pumpkins and fall leaves, and then at the end of September, all the ghosts and witch brooms come out on the porch :)

Reply

I think Andrew will join you in the week after Labor Day idea:) I like the way you build up into the ghosts and brooms:) Have a wonderful day Alyssa!

Reply

I decorate for fall in September and Halloween stuff gets added the first of October.

I’m working on strength training but let’s be honest, I have a lot more work to do. cross training has never been easy for me and neither has stretching and recovering. Haha clearly I get injured for a reason! Working on it :)

Reply

I’m right there with you… I just want to RUN!! How are you feeling after your race… have you started running again?

Reply

No. I’m not sore anymore but my knee is still bothering me a little bit. I’m just hoping that it’s not an injury. I’m taking a few more days off to foam roll and rest and then I’ll see how it goes.

Reply

I usually just decorate for Fall (pumpkins, scarecrows, etc.) in September and leave it that way until I pull out all the Christmas decorations. None of my stuff is Halloween specific so it works.

I think I’ve had 2-3 20 milers on my schedule when I’ve trained for marathons in the past. It seems like something always happens (GI issues, weather, etc.) with one of them but I usually get at least 2 in.

I am an early bird, so getting to bed early is really important to me. If I don’t get good sleep my training really suffers.

Reply

We need to get some more fall decorations!! I love going to bed early too… I just need to remember each night how good it will feel in the morning:) I hope you have a fabulous day Kathy!

As someone who puts up Christmas decorations on November 1, I say go for it Andrew! Enjoy your holiday, celebrate early and often!

Did you know that peacocks can fly?! When we run through this neighborhood we either see them on the road or up high hanging out on the telephone line. Who knew especially with their tail? And their calls sound like crying babies.

My training usually entails 2-20mi and 1-22mi. Let us know how tailwind goes for you. I bought some for training but got nervous about using it. My husband loves it for his ultras.

Reply

NOOOO WAY… that is awesome! I had no idea that they could get up to the telephone lines! Oh their calls would freak me out haha. I will totally let you know about Tailwind… I’m so excited!

Reply

Definitely wait until October 1. I am already pretty saucy about the pumpkin spice latte being released by Starbucks today. ITS STILL SUMMER! Plus I really dislike pumpkin spice.

I am big on cross training to keep me running. Today was 45 minutes of weights. Thursday will be spin. I also try to swim once a week and throw some Pilates in there too. Otherwise it will be injury city over here. Still trying to get my husband on board with all of the cross training since he runs like 80 miles a week. He is getting better about it.

Reply

It was released today!?? Crazy! I like pumpkin baked goods but I’m with you… pumpkin spice isn’t always my favorite. WAY TO GO CORRINNE on all of your cross training, you are rocking it. 80 miles a week, I can’t even imagine! So glad you have found the perfect combo to keep you injury free. Have a wonderful day Corrinne!

I live in Tigard, OR! And have domeuthe Hero Up a couple of times, great cause and fun course! If you live in the area, DO IT! If you are visiting and would like an event to participate in, DO IT! Andrew, go for the decorations!

Martha, that is so so awesome! I hope you get to do it this year too! Wish we could come run it but I am getting the virtual bib!. Have a beautiful day!

Reply

No Andrew don’t do it lol! I’m so in denial how fast time is flying by!

I have that Nathan handheld and love it but just don’t put too tight and sometimes on long runs I’ll switch hands I feel like I have to even things out.

Reply

I agree… I do not want time to go by any faster. I love this time of year! So good to hear that you love it… it was so comfortable and nice to have on my long run! I switched hands up a few times too! Have a wonderful day Christina!

Reply

Handheld water bottles are my favorite and because I live where it’s hot humid, I don’t even do short runs without one. Once you get used to it it’s great. During a race they’re nice to have because you can skip the water stops until you need to refill your bottle!

I think Halloween decorations are too early in the first weeks of September. But I also think it’s dependent on where you live. When the temps start cooling off and the leaves begin to change colors then the Halloween decor fits in. And I know some areas start to do this by early September. But overall, I think late September or the first of October is more timely.

I haven’t done a marathon in years but I *think* we did a 20 and 22 mile run as our two peak weeks.

Labor Day weekend is when I start decorating the house for fall/Halloween!!! So start decorating Andrew!!

I get adjusted & get acupuncture weekly and it helps so much with my running! Sometimes I get adjusted 2 times a week! Perks of working for a Chiropractor!

It’s never too early to decorate for Halloween (my favorite holiday, as well!) I have a few pumpkins out now (my father-in-law grows them), and I will continue to put more things out in the next few weeks. I love fall!

I hope that you start decorating asap and that you get to enjoy all that comes along with the holiday! PS that is so cool that your FIL grows pumpkins! ENJOY ERIN!

Do you have down weeks in your long runs? I noticed you did 16,18,20 in 3 weekends. I make my own plans but I can’t keep going up like that without a lower week mixed in. I will do 2-3 20 milers. How many will you do?
I’m interested to hear what you think of handheld water bottle. I don’t like it! I can’t carry anything in my hands – phone or water. Fees uncomfortable and makes my arm ache. I wear a running belt that holds water bottles. I’d rather do that than carry.

Hey Mary!! Oh bummer you don’t like it! Yeah, I definitely would prefer to not carry anything… I’m liking it so far. My coach just sends them to me week by week so I’m not quite sure when I’ll have a down week. I kind of rushed her with choosing to do this marathon so quickly so we are packing in the distance quickly! Have a wonderful day!

Did you start on a protein shake? I am curious what you use. Put the fall and Halloween decorations up! Life is short, enjoy It!!!

I have been using the nathan bottles for years now and i love them! I have that size and the16 oz. I love the pouch that holds gels, keys, chapstick….perfect! Sometimes it dribbles a bit but it never bothers me.
And halloween is my favorite….I say decorate asap!!

Have you ever used Nunn tablets when you run?

Halloween decorations go up anytime after labor day!

The logic is simply this..Labor Day is like the unofficial end of summer so bring on the next holiday!

I have the same bottle and I like it – I’ve tried bigger hand held ones & waist packs and I don’t like them. This one I can also shove into the back waistband of my shorts when I get tired of holding it – surprisingly not that uncomfortable!

I’m sorry to say that I’m an “October 1” Halloween decorator. Besides, it’s too hot in south GA to even think about anything other than being at the beach. Or in any body of water for that matter.
I teach spinning and HIIT classes at the gym which are a great way to help my running. I’ve recently picked up boxing and have fallen in love with it. There is something about hitting those heavy bags and that speed bag that forces me to use muscles in a completely different way! Good luck on that long run this weekend! I’ll be thinking of you. You got this!

Hi!!! What exericses do you do in between running in order to help with post partum issues such as strengthening pelvic floor?!!?!

Reading all of these replies, and most of y’all are much faster than me, makes me think my training error lies in too many 20+ milers?? I average 7-8 20-23 mile runs with maybe one cutback week in between all that.

I haven’t gotten faster since the birth of my second child which was three years ago. I’m scared of hitting that wall but if it works for all of you, maybe I should lessen my long runs! Maybe add some workouts in them?!

Andrew is allowed to “go overboard” with Halloween b/c he thinks you “go overboard” with birthdays. Sounds like a win for the kids to me!
