A very awful day (but we are okay:).

First, Skye and I are both 100% okay but it was a pretty awful day.

Skye and I had gone out to lunch with some friends and then we were headed home so that I could feed her.   We were stopped because of some traffic when we got rear ended by a teenager.  My airbags didn’t go off (not sure why) but my head hit the steering wheel and our car hit into the car in front of us.  I jumped out of the car so fast because I was terrified that Skye was hurt.

I was so afraid.  Skye was crying instantly (which is a good sign in this case) and I was able to get the door open (it took me a minute to get the door open because the crash really jammed it) and get to her quickly.  The paramedics got there shortly after and they checked her out right away.  From there they took us to the hospital to the ER to check her out (and me… although I couldn’t care less about my head at the time because I was so worried about Skye).

Long story short—>  Skye is completely fine.  The doctor was very thorough and did everything he needed to make sure that she is fine.  She is eating normally, crying normally and smiling normally.  We are SO lucky.  Oh and of course all of this happened while Andrew was on the airplane and we couldn’t reach him.  My mom came to the hospital (she bought a new carseat on the way there so that she could drive us home because my car is probably donezo), drove us home and stayed with us until Andrew got home.  Isn’t it crazy how fast things can change?  I am so grateful that Skye is okay.  I love her so much.

We’ll chat more tomorrow but I’m going to go to bed now (I write my posts the night before)!  I hope you have a great Saturday!

That is awful but I am so happy everyone is alright. Extra snuggles with Skye are well deserved! I bet Andrew felt like he couldn’t get home to you quick enough. Take it easy the next few days, the impact will probably make you pretty sore.

Reply

Relieved you are both ok! That is messed uranium your air bags not going off, I hope you pursue that line of inquiry. Rest up!

Reply

Agreed- Janae, please have the car maker look into the airbag problem. You should be compensated for that even if the car is totaled.

When my youngest was 1 month and my oldest 3 we were headed home from my in laws on Christmas Day. A lady on her cell phone turned right in front of us. We hit her, and she also hit a truck. She was ok. The front of our car was completely crushed but our airbags did not go out. The firemen that came first kept questioning if we had turned them off, etc. They should have gone off. My husband and I were banged up and my 3 year old had bruising from the car seat straps but my 1 month old was uninsured. Keep your kids rearfacing to the limits of the car seat! So age 2 minimum and at least 30 lbs. The firemen told us that they rarely see injured babies/toddlers in rearfacing seats. We took that to heart. Glad everyone is ok!

Reply

So glad y’all are okay! I can’t even image your fear!! Make sure you keep the receipt for the new car seat because insurance should reimburse you for that. I’m sure that’s the last thing you’re concerned about right now but every little bit helps!

omg thank goodness you are both ok!

I’m so glad the two of you are OK and that Knox and Brooke weren’t in the car also. Definitely a scary, scary moment. Was everyone else in the accident OK also? I have two teen drivers, and every time they are out of the house and I hear sirens, I have a mini panic attack. I want to text them to make sure they’re ok, but they’re driving, and I don’t want my text to cause an accident, vicious circle! LOL Rest, relax, enjoy the extra baby snuggles, and I hope you aren’t too sore today.

Oh my gosh, I’m so glad you’re both ok!! It is so scary how things can change in a moment. Definitely rest and take care of yourself today too. Also yeah…when you’re at the point of taking care of insurance and the car, make sure there wasn’t a weird recall or something on the airbags that the car manufacturer didn’t tell you about. I bet that might make a difference for insurance and stuff (I know nothing about this really — just a thought!)

Oh no !!! How awful and scary. Thank goodness you two (and everyone else I assume) is ok. Especially baby Skye. Get some rest and extra snuggles.

So glad Skye is okay! Is your head okay?So scary. I am convinced that if anything terrible is going to happen, it will happen when the husband is out of town. We’be been to the ER for an allergic reaction and croup, had tornado warnings and blizzards all while my husband was out of town.
So glad you are okay and your mom was there to help!

I am SO glad you are all okay. As a Mama to a 3 year old and an 8 month old this is one of my biggest fears and I won’t lie – I burst into tears just reading this. (I would like to blame post partum hormones but it’s been 8 months ?). Anyway, so so glad. Rest & enjoy a quiet weekend snuggling Skye!

Sending lots of healing juju your way! Now the mental recovery happens, too. How scary scary scary. That picture of Skye is so cute-she was probably charming all the health care providers, but sorry you had the opportunity to take a picture in a hospital ER! Boooo.

Rest and snuggle.

Reply

Janae, I am so sorry you had to go through that. It’s terrifying but I’m so glad you are okay and your mom was able to be there.

We were in an accident on Christmas day and the absolute hardest part was the worry about Hannah. I couldn’t get out of the car fast enough to jump on the back seat and make sure she was okay. I’ll never forget that moment or feeling. Tell your mom to keep the new car seat receipt, insurance will pay you back for that.

Again, just so glad you’re okay ❤

Oh, my gosh how scary! I got chills (and teared up) reading this because I know just how that panic feels. I am so glad you are both safe and hope you can get some rest and comfort knowing Sky is ok. You should maybe think about seeing your chiropractor and getting checked out, accidents can put your body out of whack. He might even be able to look at Sky?

SO glad you are both OK and yeah, I know how things can change in a moment. My son was recently driving home from Vancouver BC and hit some very bad road conditions. He flew off the highway and rolled his truck several times. He said “mom, the only thing that saved me was my seatbelt”. His vehicle is a bunch of munched up metal but he is alive and well.
Sending you big hugs.

I’m so glad that you are both ok! Unfortunately, this seems like a pretty common thing! I know so many moms that have been rear ended with their little ones in the car, and it happened to me bringing Liv home from her 9 month doctors appointment so the poor girl had just had a bunch of shots :( Like you said, thank goodness for car seats and seat belts.

ALSO – make sure that the kids’ insurance reimburses you for the new car seat that you had to purchase!

Oh Janae!

My baby is 20 years old now, but when he was 8 weeks old, I got into a bad accident too. We were rearended by someone going 55mph. I just remember doing the same as you – jumping out of the car to rescue my kiddo. My arm really hurt and I couldn’t lift my baby too well. When I got him out of the car, I remember handing him to a 20 something tow truck driver who was nice enough to stop. I don’t think he had ever held a baby that small or any baby for that matter. He rose to the occasion like a champion. I thanked him before we left, but I have often wanted to find him again and really thank him. I have never forgotten him.

I do want to tell you that I did end up with PTSD with driving and would have the hardest time if I felt someone was getting too close to us to the rear. I should have gotten help for that because it was a rough couple years for me and wasn’t able to drive well for a long time.

So if you think you will struggle with it, please just go ahead and get help right away!
I will be praying for you!
