What Inspires Me to Hit New Goals + an AWESOME Strength Workout for Runners!

Good morning everyone!  Today we are talking all about two things that I am focusing on this year that will help my running big time—>  stretching + strength training!  This post is brought to you by Nike.  While this is a sponsored opportunity, all content and opinions expressed here are my own.

——————————————————————————————–

In the next few days I am going to be returning to normal exercise again (WAHOO!!).  I am so excited to work hard to build up my fitness, endurance and speed again.  I’ve told you about the running goals that I have set for myself but I also wanted to share two huge goals that will help me to reach those running goals—>  to strength train 3 days a week and to stretch daily!

LRG DSC02614

I don’t know about you, but strength training is hard for me.  My sister and I are the opposite.  She loves strength training and doesn’t love cardio that much and I love cardio and struggle with strength training.  The reason that I really want to make strength training and stretching a priority this year is because if I want to come back to running strong and racing again postpartum, strength training and stretching are the things that will get me there injury free!  I know that my fastest races in the past definitely included strength training weekly leading up to the race.  I always see big jumps in my fitness/speed and I find myself injured way less when I do make strength training a priority!

To go along with strength training, stretching is also so important for runners.  Even though it just takes a few minutes each day to get in a good stretch, it is so easy to skip.  This is the year to carve out time each day to stretch and take care of myself so I can continue to take care of others too!  Below I am doing one of my current favorite stretches!  With breastfeeding and holding a baby most of the day, my upper back is feeling it (the same thing happens when I am sitting at a desk and typing a lot).  Opening up my chest while rolling out my upper back really helps!

LRG DSC02596

Something that is going to help me to start and sustain my strength training/stretching goals this year = NEW GEAR.  For me, having a new cute workout outfit that helps me feel comfortable, confident and excited for my workout really inspires me to get out and move!

I’m a huge believer that new goals feel better in new gear:)

LRG DSC02658

Having the right gear is so helpful in motivating us to make new healthy habits.  Nike has the gear that will help us to make our resolutions real this year and reach our potential!

I have loved Nike gear ever since I started working out regularly.  I can’t wait to include their gear this year as I am strength training more than ever:)  I LOVE how Nike pays close attention to form AND function with each piece of their gear.   Their performance gear is not only cute/fashion forward but it is also designed with athletes in mind to help you perform your best while you are out there sweating and working hard!  This grey tank is so comfortable and it fits me perfectly (it is loose in all of the right places)!

LRG DSC02650

I want to show you some of my favorite pieces lately!  The Nike Dri-Fit Knit Running Tank (they have so many cute colors and I have run a bunch of races in this tank), Nike Essential Flash Reflective Running JacketNike Epic Lux Running Tights and Nike Air Zoom Pegasus 34 are all so incredibly comfortable.

LRG DSC02497

How cute is this “Run with Hart” T-Shirt?! It is so soft and when paired with the Nike Sportswear Essential Women’s Leggings, I never want to change into anything else!

LRG DSC02667

I seriously want to live in these leggings and I love the side pockets!  The Nike Air Zoom Pegasus 34 are exactly what I need to motivate myself to get to some bootcamp classes this year.  They are so incredibly cute and feel like you are walking on clouds.  Knowing that I get to put these on is going to help me get out the door to work hard on my strength training!

LRG DSC02665

Not only is Nike gear perfect for our workouts but I love how cute it is to continue to wear around after to do errands or hang out at home in!  Win-win!

LRG DSC02641

Also, I have to show you how amazing the Nike Essential Flash Reflective Running Jacket is in the dark!    It is so light, flexible (easy to move in) and the reflective portions are SO bright.  I can’t wait to take this jacket out on an early morning run this year… You will be seen with this on!

Now let’s get talking about a workout that you can do while wearing your new Nike gear!

LRG DSC02619

I asked Megan@muncher_cruncher to come up with an awesome workout for runners to help us all to get stronger this year.  It is a workout that will target our hips, glutes, core, quads, hamstrings and it will help us to have POWER with each stride we take on the roads (or treadmill)!  All you need for this workout is yourself, some workout gear that motivates you to move, a resistance band and a chair/bench/block for three of the exercises.

NewImage

Below are pictures of the different moves for the workout!  Let me know if you have any questions!

Set 1:

1. Regular squats

2. Squat jumps

3. Bulgarian split squats

4. Regular plank

Set 2:

1. Banded hip thrusts (start in a glute bridge and lower hips to slightly above the ground and squeeze your glutes and lift your hips back up to bridge position)

2. Banded lateral squat walks (walk sideways in squat position)

3. Banded single-leg kick backs

PicMondkey Collkage

Set 3:

1.  Reverse walking lunges (start with both feet together and step back into a lunge, lower your body until your rear knee almost touches the floor and push off your back foot and return it forward to starting position, repeat)

2.  Single-leg elevated glute bridges (with one foot in the air and the other foot on a bench, lift your hips up into bridge position and lower back down towards the ground, repeat)

3.  Cross-body plank knee tucks (start in plank position on your hands, bring your knee towards your elbow and then return it back to starting position)

PicMonkey Collajges

Burnout:

1. Supermans

2. Glute frog pumps (place bottom of feet together and move your heels as close to your butt as possible and then bridge up into the air)

That gray tank is amazing. I just started adding way more strength and I love it!!!! I’ve been growing a home gym for early mornings (if I run at lunch) or lunch (if I run early mornings). ;-) I usually put on a show and go 45 min or do a barre class through Suzanne Bowen Fitness online. Big things are coming for your running and I’m excited to follow along!

Reply

That is awesome Mollie!! You are rocking it and I love having the option of doing things at home! Thank you so much, I am so excited for this year! Enjoy your day!

Thanks for sharing some strength training workout ideas! I’m definitely going to have to try them. I’ve been making more diligent efforts to add strength training into my routine, but it can definitely be challenging. I have a little gym at my apartment complex, so I’ve been trying to stop there a few times a week after running to add in some weights and core work, and I’ve actually started to enjoy it more!

I really like the group setting for strength training because it helps with motivation, and it’s always nice to have others around you and an instructor encouraging you, but right now I’m doing it solo. Also, Brooke’s little pink hoodie is absolutely adorable :)

Reply

I love running, but definitely slack on strength training. Partly because I don’t enjoy it that much, and partly because I don’t know what to do. I’ve made it a goal to incorporate more strength training into my workout routine and will definitely be giving this a try!

Reply

Hey Alicia!! Let’s pick up our strength training together this year and PLEASE let me know what you think about the workout when you try it. Enjoy your Monday!

Reply

I don’t have a preference for strength training on my own or in a group – I do it both ways and like them both equally!
In some of my workout classes, we plank on both hands and elbows, but I prefer elbows. My shoulders hurt more when I do them on my hands and that makes me feel like I’m not doing them correctly. Unless I’m doing plank jacks or something, then I prefer to do them on my hands.
Strength training has become a HUGE thing for me. I love it, and it makes me stronger and a better all-around runner. For me, I created a calendar for workouts, so whether it was a 5 mile run or a 45 min strength training workout, I did it. I love checking things off a list, so the calendar helped keep me on track while ensuring I didn’t miss any cross training. I switched to a schedule that was 4 days running, 2 days strength training, and that worked out well for me.

For strength training/stretching, I HIGHLY recommend yoga!! I’ve been going regularly in the evenings for the last couple months (in addition to maintaining my running) and I can’t believe how much more flexible and stronger I’ve already gotten! I’m in my off season for running so not currently training for anything and taking my runs pretty easy, but I can’t wait to start training again and see the impact yoga has had!

Reply

Thank you for reminding me… yoga is awesome and I need to include that in my training this year too! You are awesome Arthi and had an amazing 2017 with your running… enjoy your off season:) THANKS!

Reply

Yoga has helped my running so much as well! I’m going 3-4 days a week now. Sometimes I don’t even realize how stiff I am until I go to yoga. I highly recommend it, and I just love the positivity in yoga studios! Really awesome group of people.

Do you plan to strength train 3 days a week instead of running? Or do both in the same day?

Reply

HEY EMMA!!! That is aweseome that you are doing so much yoga.. thanks for inspiring me:) I am planning on going to bootcamp one day a week and then doing 2 shorter strength workouts a week at home (like 20 minute workouts)! I’m not quite sure yet how many days a week I’ll be running (I start working with a coach soon) but I’ll keep you updated on if I am combining strength training and running on the same days. Have a beautiful day!

Hey Janae,

Just wondering, did you switch from Brooks to Nike because of the CEO’s comments or what? BTW Nike super awesomely gave me my first pair of Pegasus Zoom 34s for the NYCM, and OMG they are the BEST SHOES EVER! I **never** buy shoes, but Nike has been having these extra 25% off clearance shoes with the Pegasus Zoom 34s, and I bought TWO pairs (one post-marathon, one for some time in my Boston training..) <33333 and love your color!!

Reply

Hey! Great question! I will continue to run only in Brooks running shoes but as far as cross training goes, I love these shoes! I love to keep my running shoes separate from my cross training shoes so they last longer too! Thanks for reading! Have a great day!

Reply

Ohh I see, smart! I cross-train in old shoes..not so clever :p.

p.s. The latest “I’ll Have Another” with Mrs. Kathrine Switzer was AMAZING!! Seriously need to read up on some running history and women empowerment! And happy MLK Day!

Reply

I JUST FINISHED IT ON MY WALK this morning and it was SO good! Glad you loved it too! Thanks and happy MLK Day to you! Enjoy your day:)

Reply

I’m so glad you asked this! I came to the comments to ask the same thing lol. I was wondering what happened to the Brooks too.

Reply

Brooks is still my forever running shoe:) No worries, they aren’t going anywhere! I hope you have a wonderful day Tiffany!

Nike makes AWESOME workout clothes – especially their leggings. I feel like they are one of the only brands that makes leggings that don’t move around during my workout.

I am like 50/50 on strength training on my own or in a group. It really just depends on my mood for the day, but I absolutely push myself harder in a group setting. I try to alternate my planks! I feel like I get in a rut of doing them all on my elbows or on my hands, and I think it’s good to mix it up. And I really can’t decide if I like cardio or strength training more. I was always a competitive dancer growing up so I was always physically active but started working out in an actual gym when I was like 15. I started to actually love it when I was in college though.

I love your workout example/pictures!

Reply

I struggle with strength training. And I do best in a class or group setting so I don’t have to think much about what I should do next, someone will tell me. This is something I’m working on this year too. So far I’ve slacked off with it. This week I’m starting. My mom has the equipment at her house so I’m doing it this evening there.

Reply

I love all the Nike workout gear! (And let’s face it, I am wearing running clothes 95% of the time when I’m not at work!)
I usually do planks on my elbows..my wrists are pretty sensitive so I try to stay off my hands unless I’m doing mountain climbers or something.
I am a huge fan of Popsugar Fitness workout videos on youtube! It’s really easy to squeeze in a 15 or 20 minute strength routine after a run. I also love BBG :)

Reply

I try to do a quick yoga video from YouTube each night, just to unwind and stretch a little. It’s probably not sufficient, but it’s gotta be better than nothing!

Reply

I love the work out pictures and examples…great idea! The visuals aee very helpful…can’t wait to try these!! Love all the clothes too…but every link I click on says the product is no longer available? Did they sell out already?

Reply

I was able to find the items on another site?

Reply

Oh good!! Things must be selling out. Let me know what you think of the stuff you get! Have a wonderful day Ashley!

Reply

This post was perfect timing! I do not make New Year resolutions, but my goals for running have included more strength AND stretching. I went to a Zumba class the other day for low impact cross training and for fun and I realized how stiff I have gotten! Stretching needs to happen more.
Thanks for the pics on the strength training moves because I was uncertain of a few of them especially the ones with the bands. I can’t wait to try the glute frog pumps. I too notice a major improvement in my speed when I increase strength training.

Reply

I realllly need to get into strength training too! I think for me its been easier to make goals with cardio workouts and its what I’ve always done. I just don’t know the proper moves, etc for strength training. Thanks for showing us!

Reply

You are welcome Becky! I hope you have a wonderful day! xoxo

Reply

I definitely prefer a group setting for strength training (specifically Les Mills Body Pump). I’m lucky that my gym offers 6 full length classes and 2 half-hour express classes each week at varying enough times that I can almost always fit in 2 per week, even with running several days too. I’m just way better at strength stuff if someone just tells me what to do, and I like the group class atmosphere in general.

I think I like cardio and strength training about the same, to be honest. I’m frequently thankful that my high school allowed “alternative” options for gym class. Because of my schedule I took elective weight training for gym credit. It was kind of socially hard for me because I was with a bunch of school sports folks (which I was NOT AT ALL in high school…I was a dancer and a musician) but had I not done that class I would’ve been way more initimidated to even enter a gym as an adult.

Reply

Ooooh, I love that workout! Totally doing it today! Thank you! I’m still coming back from a hammy injury, so I did an hour of pool running this morning. It felt great! Loved all the Nike gear!

Reply

Let me know what you think of it Chelsea! Way to go on hitting up the pool and I hope your hamstring is 100% ASAP!! Have a beautiful Monday!

Reply

I love strength training! I never thought I would say that coming from a cardio junky. But the changes I have seen in my body the past couple years with more strength training and way less cardio have been awesome!! I love hitting the gym and lifting heavy:)

On another topic…I sent you and Bailey Jackson an email last week, but never heard back. I have not received the VISA gift card yet and I was wondering if it had been mailed? I hope it didn’t get lost in the mail….I have my shopping list already to go, lol!!
Thanks!!

Reply

AMY!!!!! NOOOO I am so so sorry… I’ll email Bailey right now!! I will make sure you get it! You are inspiring me to get in my strength training and that I’ll love it soon:) Thanks Amy!

Reply

Thank you! Just let me know what you find out.

Once you start doing more strength training you’ll never look back. I love it!!!

Reply

I LOVE bootcamp so I guess group setting for strength training is my thing. And I normally plank on my elbows.

I am so bad when it comes to doing cross training / strength training. I just love running more. So, my secret is to follow training plans that call for one day of cross training and then I’ll do strength.

Hope you enjoy your day, Janae:)

Reply

Are you trying to kill me with that workout! Just doing each set once would set me over the edge. But it’s a great place to start right?! I actually can barely plank so I try to do it on my elbows since I’ve heard that makes it easier. No idea if that’s actually true but I’ll keep telling myself it is ;)
So I prefer cardio over strength since I don’t need to go anywhere or do anything for cardio aside from lace up my running shoes. Funny enough, I ran all four years in high school on the cross country and track team but didn’t fall in love with it until over the summer! Setting my own goals and races helped me learn to love it!

I actually have 2 strength training questions:

I have been sticking to strength training primarily upper body and I am not happy that my tops are tighter around my arms. I want to tone but not bulk up. I am fairly petite and I know it is only noticeable to me but honestly not want I want! Any suggestions?? I use the weight machines and have not branched out to free weights. I am nervous about adding in lower body strength training due to a bad knee but should likely try it.
Planks: I have a bad knee and planks have bothered it for the last year. What am I doing wrong or is this common for someone with a bad knee? I really think I am just using the wrong form.

Reply

HEY CARRIE!!! I am going to ask Megan these questions (she is a genius about this stuff!!!) because I do not want to give you the wrong advise. I am so sorry about your knee pain… that is not fun! I hope you have a great day!

Reply

Hi! I know your question was directed for her, but I thought I might be able to help :) I’ve just gotten into lifting weights (after mostly just running, but I still run) and that was one of the things I was worried about because I am a smaller person. Eat a lot of protein and carbs which will help build muscle. I’ve done a ton of research, but you should be fine. Your arms will most likely get a bit bigger but then will level and tone up once your body gets used to it. You can also try focusing on either lower weights-higher reps or vice-versa. I hope I was able to help some :) Oh! And don’t be afraid to hit up some free weights! :)

Reply

I actually use the Nike Training Club App regularly for core and strength and really like it. The Nike Pegasus is on my shoes to revisit for running. I do like that shoe for running, just haven’t run for a while in it. It was my first shoe.

Reply

Hi Janae!

Thanks for the suggestions! They look great. I am trying to do more strength training to get rid of tight piriformis muscles, so glute work ideas are really helpful.

Some questions about your workout: is the idea to do 1 set (with 3-5 repetitions) per day and 3 sets over the week, e.g. Set 1 Monday, Set 2 Wednesday etc? How would you advise starting if you are a beginner (don’t want to get injured straight away…)? Last of all, would you do this on the same day as you run or on the days where you don’t run?

Thanks!

Meg

Reply

Hey Meg!!! Yay for more strength training and I hope your piriformis feels better asap! Please keep me updated! So the workout is meant to do all in one session… so for set one you will go through those exercises 3-5 times before moving on to set 2. Set 2 you will go through 3-5 times before moving on to set 3 etc. Does that make sense? It depends on how many days a week you are running. If you have a few days off from running then I would do it on the days you don’t run, if you run every day then I would do the workout on my easy days! PLEASE let me know if you have any other questions… I hope you have a beautiful day!

I love Nike running capris! I taught group weight lifting for many years until we moved. Maybe its because I taught for long and because I prefer to be the boss that I now I just prefer to do my strength training at home by myself. My husband got me TRX bands for Christmas and I love them! I was only doing strength once a week but now I can shake it up with those bands so I am up to twice a week. They really kill my core too! But I still prefer a run over strength.

What happened to sponsored posts only once a month?

Reply

Hey!! I’ve said 2-3 sponsored posts a month:) Must be another website/blog you are thinking of! Have a fabulous day!

Reply

Still feels a bit excessive. I feel like I’m reading so many sponsored posts.

Reply

Yeah, Janae specifically did say 2-3 posts/month in this post
https://hungryrunnergirl.com/2017/08/5-blogging-mistakes-good-decisions-ive-made-over-the-years.html

I don’t really like some of the sponsored stuff either, but lets be fair to Janae that this is her way of bringing in money to allow her to be a stay at home mom and support her family. Most of us would probably be happy to promote Nike and wear some of their new gear too if it paid us well. If you otherwise like reading her blog, you have to “put up” with the monetary part that allows her to continue blogging and not go find another job.

Reply

Just an FYI – I found that the hyperlinks did not work. The error page that shows up says: THE PRODUCT YOU ARE LOOKING FOR IS NO LONGER AVAILABLE for all product links in this post. At least they did for me (in Canada) :)

Reply

NOOOO I am so sorry about that. I will get to work on figuring out the problem… thanks for letting me know!

Reply

Love Nike! I actually really like strength training but I definitely do more cardio albeit not enough of either. I think I like strength training alone the best, I have my own routine and can take my time. For planks I like to do the ones where you go up/down from elbows to hands because otherwise I get too lazy and don’t hold them as long if I use one or the other.

Reply

I don’t get the “Run With Hart” — is this some kind of inside joke? Why is hart spelled wrong?

Reply

I mean why is “heart” spelled wrong ;)

Reply

Nike partnered with Kevin Hart to inspire more people to move! https://www.nike.com/us/en_us/c/running/nike-run-club/run-with-hart

Reply

Its for Run with (Kevin) Hart – a comedian.

I agree its not obvious why its misspelled… I would rather it say “Run with heart” – which has a lot more inspirational meaning

Reply

This workout looks great! I just did my first strength training session postpartum this morning with bands and body weight. Always a humbling but great experience. :)))

I’m excited for a strong, stable core, including strong glutes. 7+ years of pregnancy and breastfeeding has sapped all shape out of my booty. My goal is to shape it back up again … and to finally be able to do pull-ups!

Reply

Just threw my name in for 2018 NYCM.
I’ll start doing these strength training moves so that I can finish STRONG (on the off chance I get in via lottery) — thanks so much!

Reply

I was going to say the same thing about Brookes. What happened to Old Navy having the best workout gear. You seem to be easily influenced these days.

Reply

I know she’s paid to promote various things. But honestly, can’t you like two or more brands? I like drinking diet mountain dew and Coke (opposing companies). I like work out clothes from both Puma AND Addidas (competing brands).
Not everyone is excessively loyal to only ONE brand.

As long as her contracts with each company she’s promoting allow for it, I don’t see why she has to never try or mention another brand on her blog.

Reply

I’m with your sister, strength training > cardio. I have been getting into powerlifting these past few months and absolutely love it. I train on my own but I have a coach online that makes my workouts which is super helpful. On another note though I would love to even be able to run a 5K. I’m doing the color run in April which will be a fun 5K. I might work on my running a little bit so I can run for part of it.

Reply

Wasn’t Old Navy your favorite? And then brooks? And then some Lululemon jacket? But now Nike? Sorry, but all the sponsored posts ring as super insincere and completely fake. I wish you’d only post sponsored posts of things you actually use. Isn’t also a huge conflict of interest for you as a Brooks Ambassador to be promoting Nike? Or are you not an ambassador anymore? I get sponsored posts are part of blogging, but would be nice if an ounce of thought was given to reviewed products instead of just taking the $ from everything that comes your way and then talking about how “omg great” every product is.

Reply

I suppose Meb Keflezighi (elite marathon runner) is an insincere fake shill for a bunch of products he doesn’t care about. Meb is sponsored by Sketchers shoes, Cep compression socks, Epson (GPS watches, scanners, printers), Eliptigo, Ucan (protein bars and sports drinks), NYAC (athletic club), Bridgestone tires, Krave jerky, Maui Jim glasses, and KT kinesiology tape. This is how many athletes support themselves to be able to pursue their dream = by working with Sponsors.
https://marathonmeb.com/sponsors/

I bet it would be easier for Janae to just post whatever she felt like and never worry about money, rather than the emailing back and forth with companies, negotiating the contract, creating a blog post that incorporates their product, doing the taxes for each sponsor payment…. But in this world, the reality is that you have to eat, pay the bills, keep gas in the car, buy your kids health insurance, etc. Sponsor support allows her to do these things while still pursuing her love of running and blogging.

Love this workout! I started back too strong with my leg workout this week and then thought I could run 13 miles the next day…. I did it, but then could barely walk for 3 days. This banded workout looks amazing and also gives me more ideas for hip exercises cause mine are soooo weak!

Reply

That strength workout looks hard! I might need to cut it in half to start off it or i won’t be able to walk for days! Are you planning to do just strength days and no running or combine them?

Reply

Hey Mary! Not quite sure on what days I will be combining yet (I start working with a coach soon:) but I will keep you updated! I am planning on going to bootcamp one day a week and then doing short strength workouts two times a week at home! I hope you have a great day!

Reply

I am a cardio queen…and yet I know how strength training is going to be important this year if I want to stay in one piece. Definitely a plank on the elbows. Usually fit it in when I am watching tv or lounging in the evenings. I am considering paying a personal trainer for a few sessions just to get started but it’s not cheap haha. Have a great day!

Reply

My sister is like you and LOVES cardio/running and I am like your sister and LOVE strength training and avoid a lot of cardio. I used to be the very opposite and love cardio, but I have noticed that I see the biggest changes in my body from more strength training and I also get injured a lot less! I used to do strength training only in group settings, but in our current house, we have more room and I was able to get a bit of equipment for strength training so now I do my training at home, which is SO nice and convenient! Have an awesome day!!

Reply

Strength training IS important and the workout looks great. I would recommend starting out small the first few times. I had only run for quite a while and decided d it was time for a workout similar to this. BUT the next week or so was torture as I could barely walk nevermind run my regular route! Remember to ease into any new workout routine!

Reply

I love group setting strength training. I do Body Pump 3x per week and it really gets me motivated. I also have friends in class so we keep each other accountable. I can usually do 1 kettlebell workout per week but that’s the max. I get bored and don’t push myself if there’s too many solo strength workouts! I do love running and run 3-4x/week so I’d say I’m 60/40 for strength! : )

Have a great day! Skye is getting so big! She looks alot like Brooke right now. What a cutie!

Reply

Thatwas tough. I was toast after 3 rounds and I’m in marathon shape. Thanks!

Reply

I usually do planks on my forearms because I have bad wrists, and if I do too much with my wrists bent they hurt.

Reply

Cute stuff and thanks for the strength workout!

I almost always prefer a group setting for working out, which is interesting because I am a bit of an introvert.

I feel like doing a plank on my elbows is harder so I try and stick with that :)

Ugh, I have such a hard time figuring out how to squeeze everything in! I have to schedule strength days. When I’m not training for something I try for 3-4 x’s a week and when I am training for something I will do strength on my rest day. Setting my timer for 10 min helps me sneak in my stretching.

I really love cardio (running) and strength training. I enjoy mixing it up! I started working out after my last babies, so I had just turned 30.

Reply

I am a cardio junkie and need motivation to strength train so I like a group setting for strength training. However, I live in a very small town and have to drive quite a ways to get to a class, so I have collected equipment at home (hand weights, bar and plates, weight bench, etc) so I have NO excuses not to get it done!

I plank on my elbows. Supposedly you get more benefit from doing planks on your elbows??

Reply

Thanks for the workout to try. I definitely will be trying this! I am cardio all the way, and I really want to PR in the Ogden Marathon this spring, so I know that I need to add some strengthen training as well, and those stupid intervals that I hate!

I love Nike and I do run in Nike Pegasus. I’ve tried other brands, but they just don’t work for my feet. What’s good for someone isn’t always good for the next person. I think it’s awesome that you show great products from all of the different brands we have to choose from. Thanks!!

Have a great night!!

My last name is Hart and I WANT that Run With Hart Nike shirt but I can’t find it anywhere that will ship to Canada. Anybody??

I’m not sure why it won’t ship to Canada! I can buy it for you and mail it to you and you could just Venmo me if you want! Let me know!

I started doing Fit Body Bootcamp 4-5 days/wk in addition to running. It’s only 30″/day so I can squeeze it in on my lunch. I’ve been running for 15yrs so adding bootcamp has been a welcome addition. I’m 41 and never have been in better shape. It’s made me a stronger runner and I love how toned I look.

Strength training used to be a struggle for me too. After I started noticing how much fitter and faster I got, it became much easier to fit in. I love it so much that I am now co-owner of Run Strong Project (runstrongproject.com). We design customized online strength specific programs for runners (and also offer run coaching). Janae, we would love for you to try our workouts!!!

I finally did this workout and it kicked my butt, especially those single-leg elevated glute bridges! It was awesome though, especially as I’m really trying to strengthen my hips and glutes so I stop getting injured all the time. Thanks so much for sharing it!! Now to keep doing it a few times a week..

Thanks for sharing some strength training workout ideas! I’m definitely going to have to try them. I’ve been making more diligent efforts to add strength training into my routine, but it can definitely be challenging. Your article provides a great aspiration and I act as a guide for the visitor.

Love this workout! I started back too strong with my leg workout this week and then thought I could run 13 miles the next day…. I did it, but then could barely walk for 3 days. This banded workout looks amazing and also gives me more ideas for hip exercises cause mine are soooo weak!
