Junk OUT + Thursday Things + you SHOULD do this challenge!

I’ve got another Skye/postpartum update for you—>  HERE!!!

—————————————————————————

Thursday already?!?  I actually had to look on the calendar to see what day it was when I was writing this post ha.

With school going again we are all a little bit more tired and rushing around more in the morning;)  Even Skye was yawning.  I’m just happy I remembered to get Brooke back to school because I was worried that we would get to February and I would finally remember that she should be in school (my brain isn’t functioning quite like normal yet).

IMG 6042

Another mini treadmill walk while Skye kept me entertained.

IMG 6051 2

After my walk I did the moves HERE from Becky as part of my postpartum recovery!  Trying to do things right this time around!  And then we snuggled while watching GoPro videos on Youtube ha.

IMG 6057

Later on in the day Brooke and I went out, just the two of us!  I fed Skye right before we left and timed it to get back home right when she would be hungry/wake up again.

IMG 6069

We ran into Costco to grab three things that we forgot to get the other day and Brooke was pretty happy about the sample lineup.

IMG 6071

While we were there we ran into JENNY!!  Jenny (Running on Life) and I have emailed and commented back and forth with each other but had never met until yesterday.  At Costco.  It’s pretty easy to find me if I do leave the house.. I’m either at Costco or Target.

IMG 6075

We then met up with Megan for a quick lunch at one of our favorites.  Brooke was showing Megan how she is almost as tall as her!

IMG 6077

180 Tacos for soup and salad!

IMG 6079

We then got ready to go out on our daily walk (temperatures please stay nice for a while)…

IMG 6080

IMG 6082

Knox came home and then we had dinner!

IMG 6098

Andrew made these salmon grilled cheese sandwiches… at first I was skeptical but they actually tasted really good!

IMG 6096

The kids just had normal grilled cheese for dinner.  When Brooke asked for jam on top of her sandwich I was very proud (that is something that we do in my family and I’m happy to see it continue to go through the generations)!

IMG 6099

—————————————————————————

*More than ever we are eating ALL of the vegetables and much better than I normally eat.  A year or two ago my coach would tell me in regards to my nutrition—>  Junk in = Junk OUT!  With this little phrase he was talking about how taking in junk (nutrition wise) all of the time would make it so that my workouts/running weren’t great.   This phrase is really sticking to me right now with my breastfeeding though… I don’t know how it all works scientifically with what I am eating going to Skye but I just feel like I really need to be eating good foods to give her the best (I wish I could have done better with that during pregnancy but only 3 foods sounded good to me so it didn’t).  It might not even be a thing but I’ll just keep telling myself it is.  Hopefully this carries over to my running too and taking in less junk will make for some quality workouts again!

*I am so excited that The Bachelor has started again.  Also, there is a girl from my city this season on the show… I hope she makes it to the hometown dates so that they show off my area on tv because as you know, I love it here.

IMG 6032

*How does she sleep with one leg propped up like that?

IMG 6037

*I came up with an adult lunchable snack and it is amazing (all from Costco of course)… pretzel thins, turkey and a cheese slice.  I think I had about 20 of these yesterday.

IMG 6090

*Anyone doing the lululemon/strava challenge?  You have until January 15th to either complete 40km or 80km of running.  I’m not sure if the prize is the same as last year (I can’t find anywhere that says what the prize is) BUT LAST YEAR they gave a pair of shorts or tank out if you did the 40km and both if you did the 80km!  I didn’t do it last year (I didn’t know about it till it was almost over) but a bunch of friends did and they got some amazing free clothes because of it!

*The President of Our Church passed away late on Monday night.  He was an amazing man and I thought I would share a few of my favorite quotes from him:

“May we ever choose the harder right, instead of the easier wrong.”

“Of this be sure:  you do not find the happy life- you make it.”

“We will never regret the kind words spoken or the affection shown.  Rather, our regrets will come if such things are omitted from our relationships with those who mean the most to us.”

“We can’t direct the wind, but we can adjust the sails.”

“Never let a problem to be solved become more important than a person to be loved.”

Did you run or is that just a typo?

Reply

She is running and has been. She’s just lying to everyone saying she’s treadmill walking everyday and slipped today. Ha!

Reply

Hahah think what you want Amy but I haven’t ran once since having Skye and I am very proud of myself for it! After 7 years of writing about my runs each day on the blog it was definitely a mistake in my writing. Have a beautiful day!

Reply

I’m proud of you too, Janae. Speaking from experience, it’s hard to wait!

Reply

Haters gonna hate!

Reply

Typo, along with the other 15 typos I am finding this morning in my post! Sorry!

Reply

im sure lack of sleep from skye doesnt help! enjoy your time off with her x

Reply

I love that you made an adult “punchable” snack. That sounds much more fun when you’re hangry than a regular old lunchable. Lol. :-P

Reply

Hahahahaha I clearly struggled writing my post… but punchable sounds fun too;) have a great day Lisa!

Reply

Are you back to running already?! And is the girl from your hometown Maquel? I think the other girl who owns an Indian restaurant is from the SLC area too.
PS that grilled cheese combo sounds great!!

Reply

Nope, It was a mistake on my post, I’m tired, wrote this late and I’m used to writing run instead of walk! I’ve got a few more weeks! Yes…. that’s the one! Ahhh let’s try to go to her restaurant together:) have a great day Katelyn!

Reply

No worries, I can imagine with a newborn! And going to her restaurant together sounds fabulous!! =)

Today I am thankful for a TWO HOUR DELAY because we got some snow overnight. I don’t know if teachers are supposed to get this excited about snow and 2 hour delays but they make me ridiculously happy every time. It’s probably because I hate mornings so much. Like, really a lot. (And I’ve been teaching since 2003 so I’m pretty sure it’s not just a matter of getting used to it.)

I like almost all cheese but my favorite is probably Brie.

Love your pastor’s quotes. Thank you for sharing them.

You are welcome Amanda! I hope you are having a beautiful day!!!

The Greatest Showman was BEYOND AMAZING!!! Seriously I teared up multiple times because the music is just so moving. You have to see it. Plus Zac Efron is totally ???.
I also saw Pitch Perfect 3 the other night. If you go in expecting it to just be a dumb and silly, you’ll be entertained and that’s enough.
I love those Costco trays of cheese. We get them at work and they’re so yummy.
Tonight I have orientation for grad school and I’m so nervous! Classes start Monday. I already had a dream last night that all these things went wrong and I missed my first class. ?

Reply

Ahhhh I need to go see it ASAP!!! Hahah good to know about PP3! I probably will see it just for fun;) Alyssa, I am so excited (and amazed by you) with your graduate program! I’ll be thinking about you Monday…keep me updated and we need a cafe rio date!

Reply

I haven’t seen The Greatest Showman, but my friend LOVED it. I’ve seen Pitch Perfect 3 twice, though. :) It’s SO GOOD!!

I am a huge fan of cheese. It’s hard to pick just one fave!! I love provolone, mozzarella, Colby jack, Monterey jack, cheddar—my list could keep going! I even like pepper jack, and I normally don’t like spicy things (though I guess it’s really not THAT spicy).

Reply

The Greatest Showman was awesome!!! My cousin’s daughter played Caroline Barnum in it!! I love the soundtrack!!!

Reply

Well, here in Boston we are in the midst of a “bomba genesis” blizzard, which from what I can gather is sort of a cross between a hurricane and a blizzard. We’re forecasted to get 16 inches of snow + 50mph winds. So…no run today. But probably a lot of shoveling, which is its own kind of cross training, I guess?
I don’t use strava but I have been thinking about trying it out! And I havent seen The Greatest Showman, but I’d like to; I’m a big fan of musicals.
Stay warm!

Reply

All cheeses are my favorite! Did you see Last Jedi? What did you think? I hear great things about anything starring Hugh Jackman so I can’t wait to see it!

Reply

Wow! Did you run today?! Congrats on being back at it, even before 6 weeks!

Reply

Didn’t run, just walked and made a typo. Little sleep + talking about my runs for year = an easy mistake!

Reply

I am sorry about the loss of your pastor. Those are beautiful quotes-I appreciate you sharing them with us. I am not a Strava person until just now. I decided to sign up for the Lulu challenge you noted above. I’m sure the years of free clothes are long gone but it is still fun to compete against others. I’m halfway through the training cycle for the Napa Valley Marathon on March 4 so I shouldn’t have any trouble meeting the challenge targets. Have a great day!

Reply

“May we ever choose the harder right, instead of the easier wrong.”

Love that. :)

Reply

Wow- lots of opinions out there – that will teach you to make a typo ?. I guess it comes with the territory but yikes.
I took my 15 year old son to PP3 – good if you’re expecting silly entertainment. We went to Jumangi too – I was surprised I liked that too. Going to try to talk my daughter and her husband into seeing the Greatest Showman when they come up ftom Houston tomorrow.

Reply

I follow Megan on Instagram—-because I learned about her athletic prowess from you! Love her tutorials on there. It’s always funny now to see her on your blog–like two worlds colliding. I love it!

I’m on Strava and earned the tee and shorts from Lululemon last year! Very cool. I signed up again this year. It’s cold and windy and snowy here, but I’m still gunning for it. My half marathon on the 14th should help, too :) I like Strava for the community and lifting each other up. I will admit that at first I was all into the CRs and making records, etc. I’m happy to say that I’m over that now. lol The PRs are fun, but I don’t need for it to be uber competitive!

Thursday things—I’m running after school but even more excited for hot yoga tonight—my body needs it!

Have a blessed day, Janae!

I was going to do the Strava challenge, however, it says they won’t count treadmill miles and it’s a real 0 degrees here, negative temps with wind chill! Even though I can bundle up, that’s just way too hard on my lungs!

SO – anyone know if they WILL count treadmill miles if they’re tracked with the indoor setting of Nike+ or the apple watch or anything? Thanks =)

Reply

Pretty certain that Nike was not on the list…I also use the Nike running app and was disappointed to see that it didn’t count. So then I downloaded the app and was going to participate when i saw the “no treadmill” policy, BOO!! No way I’m doing 25 miles outside in the next 10 days…… argghhhhhh. PLEASE post and tell me if there ends up being a lulu reward Janae!

Reply

I actually JUST joined Strava because of this challenge! It’s in the negative degrees here so I did a few treadmill miles and found out those don’t count…looks like I have to bundle up and run outside! Prize better be pretty good ;)

That picture of Skye yawning might be the cutest thing I’ve seen so far this year. She is adorable!!

Reply

Just my opinion (and what do I know) but assuming you did run today it is OK! You know your body and how you are feeling. I realize this was a typo and you walked but people need to calm down. I get that you have stated that you are waiting 6 weeks to resume running so people may be surprised if you run sooner but again it is YOUR life. You are an adult and will do what is right for you and your life. Have a great day Janae!

Reply

So fun to see you! Brooke was so good and patient while we talked.

I can’t imagine not hearing from president Monson at conference. Loved him!

I need to do way better at eating veggies. I’m good with broccoli and carrots and corn, but most others I just don’t care for. I need all the tips on eating veggies haha.

Reply

I’m so sorry about your pastor! Sending out thoughts guys and prayers to his family and congregation. I LOVE quotes and adore his! We’re still on break and the days are going exponentially fast! We just watched The Mountain Between Us and loved it but were easy to please. Haha. I love the junk in and junk out. It’s so true. On the days my husband eat crap, the workouts are so much harder.

Reply

I really want to see the Greatest Showman! We saw Jumanji last week and loved it.

My fave cheese is Brie. It just goes so well with everything!

Reply

We are taking the kids to see The Greatest Showman tonight and I’m super excited!!

I use Strava and it’s fun to follow locals and look at my stats over the year.

I’m not a huge cheese person but when I eat it I like sharp cheddar or Brie.

Reply

I’m a huge strava fan! it’s so fun to follow friends’ training and virtually cheer for each other. I also love the little movies they make at the end of the year recapping all your training. I did the lulu challenge last year and I’m hoping for good swag again this year!

Reply

I am doing the lululemon challenge….I did it last year too :)
The only thing that is a little nutty is that treadmill miles dont count. Didnt realize that until after I had done 3 miles on the treadmill on the first day. Oops!!!

Reply

I am looking into that challenge. Free stuff for running? Sign me up. Actually, I guess I have to sign myself up.

Ross sleeps with one leg up all the time. He doesn’t believe me when I tell him though.

I told Megan she has to go see The Greatest Showman a third time and take me. I want to see it so bad.

Smoked gouda or pepperjack cheese are my favorite. Not melted though. Cheese should never be melted.

I read about the typo comments. Honestly, I don’t know how you type these up each day. I was so sleep deprived in the newborn/breastfeeding stage (years and years ago). I remember my Lamaze teacher say, “You will have days when you don’t even get out of your PJ’s, do your hair, clean the house etc.” I thought, that won’t be me but yup, it was me and it was really freeing! I was sleep deprived and I needed to sleep. Thank you for keeping up the blog! You are and have been amazing! If you are really tired, maybe some guest posts?? (your mom or your sister?). Take care of yourself! I love that you are doing short walks and starting some exercises.

I love all of those quotes from the President of your Church! My daughter wanted me to see Star Wars and it did not disappoint! It was really long but it went by really fast. I thought about the Strava challenge but I am a Florida girl in Atlanta and the wind chills have been too cold. My face just gets too cold and I can’t stay out there very long. I saw the treadmill doesn’t count but maybe when it warms up a bit (we will see).

Reply

The Greatest Showman was SO GOOD. I loved every second. I cried/smiled through the entire thing. And the soundtrack is amazing. I would highly recommend it!

Also, that cheese plate thing from Costco is the best. We buy it all the time.

I think this season of the Bachelor is going to be really good!

Reply

OMG MUST TRY your turkey sandwich bites! great idea!

Reply

I love Skye’s little snowman hat – so adorable! I miss the baby days. Have a great day!

Reply

So sad and so happy for President Monson! He is an amazing man with so many good talks. But so happy he is reunited with his beautiful wife.
I just joined Strava to do the challenge, crazy ya can’t use treadmill miles in the death of winter cold ? I hope the prize it just as good this year!

Reply

Those salads for lunch look delicious! I’ve been given a couple movie theatre gift cards over the last couple months, so I’ve been checking to see if there’s any movies out that I want to see. The Post with Meryl Streep and Tom Hanks looks good. Meryl is one of my favorite actresses, so I’m thinking I’m going to see that when it’s released.

Reply

I saw the Greatest Showman last night – it was amazing! Your grilled cheese sandwiches always look so good :) Favourite cheese: probably Swiss, though a good English cheddar is excellent too. Glad you and Skye are getting out and about with the pram:) I miss those pram walks :)

Reply

Skye in her little snowman hat is soooo cute! And how nice that you and Brooke got out for a little date. I hope your weather holds because it must feel amazing to get out for some walks, maybe we can just skip snow this year ;)

I’m trying to cut out dairy for a bit so my new favorite cheese is cashew parmesan and I have to say I love it!

Reply

Ahh thanks for reminding me about the Bachelor! I need to catch up already. I really liked the last season of the Bachelorette so I’m hoping this season doesn’t disappoint!
We had a SNOW DAY today…which made my month and we’re probably going to get another tomorrow! Not a bad start to spring semester :)
I ended up doing BBG arms and we took the pup on a snowy walk through the woods. She loved it!
I still use strava but I’m a bigger fan of the garmin connect app..more stats!
Enjoy your day!

Reply

First of all I’m sorry so many people were rude about your typo of running instead of walking. I didn’t even notice it until I read it in comments. Anyways I think it’s awesome you’re blogging right now. Most people get a maternity leave but as a blogger you don’t!
So, Is that salmon already cooked for that sandwich?
And do you go through that big Clorox set of wipes??

I’m so very sorry for your loss in your church!! Those are amazing words that you shared from him though! <3

I have a strava account but I'm not very good at remembering to use it! I already have my charity miles and runkeeper going and forget to start up another tracker! That challenge sure sounds awesome though!

I've heard the Greatest Showman is SO good from a ton of people!! Like, they leave the movie and want to go right back in to watch it over again!

I'm such a sucker for a good cheese board! I recently went up to Wisconsin and had all kinds of amazing cheeses and quickly became addicted to it as a snack! I need to try your jelly on grilled cheese for sure! That sounds so yummy!!!

I watched the Bachelor last night because I missed it Monday! It's such a hard show to avoid…I want to watch it but then I so don't! HA! Ohhh entertainment struggles!

Have a great day Janae!!!

Beautiful quotes – thank you!! I recently ran past our local LDS temple and it is SO beautifully lit up for the holidays – it’s just spectacular!!

Have a wonderful day!!

salmong grilled cheese? i’m skeptical… but I’ll take your word for it that it’s good! I’m sorry to hear of the passing of the president of your church. His quotes are so meaningful, and I’m sure he was a wonderful person. I love the one about adjusting the sails… gold! I hope you’re soaking in your nice weather because currently the northeast is getting pummeled by a big snow storm! I love a good snow day even if it is crazy cold out there! :)

Reply

Hi Janae and Skye! I loved hearing about your day. I still think she looks just like Brooke with a little bit of Knox in there.
That salmon grilled cheese looked great. Who knew?! I will try that for sure.
I also want to thank you for sharing the quotes from your Church ‘s President. I am very sorry for your loss. His words were amazing and really helped me today.
Have a great day!

I use strava and yup, doing the lululemon challenge. I live in lulu clothes so this will be a bonus haha if I get free stuff. Thursday stuff – woke up later this morning so I did 2 miles of hills on the treadmill and and ran the rest of the way to work. I lovecheese.

Haven’t seen that movie but we have seen some really good ones in 2017 I really enjoyed Wind River, the Florida Project and Blade runner 2049. But one of the movies that has stuck with me the most from 2017 is one called Stronger. It is the story of one mans personal journey, struggles and healing after being injured in the Boston 2013 marathon while watching his girl friend. The performances were outstanding – I think I cried my way through (and laughed a lot). I think because I was in Boston in 2013 and 2014 so it also brought back a lot of memories. It’s on DVD now, and it is definitely worth watching if you have not. Happy Thursday!

Reply

YES ~ YES ~ I have seen The Greatest Showman and it is AMAZING!! So good…seriously!! There is singing (and its wonderful) but there is also talking ….not all singing like in LesMiserables. You will love it and then you will download the songs like we have done because they are so so good.

Reply

I just loved today’s pictures, but one caught my eye. You are talking about going for your daily walk and Brooke is standing next to the carriage. I swear if you look closely at Skye – she is smiling!!!!!!!!

Reply

Oh, I hope we get to see your hometown from The Bachelor! I’m afraid Chelsea is going to give our state a bad rep – she’s from Portland, Maine which is 30 min. from where I live!! It would be cool to see that on the hometowns but I don’t think she will make it that far.

Reply

“Of this be sure: you do not find the happy life- you make it.”- I love this! I’m sorry for your loss.
Salmon grilled cheese sounds kind of gross but I’m always looking for new ways to eat salmon so maybe I’ll give it a try. If I can convince my husband haha
I just have to say I think it’s amazing that you have a new post every day with a baby. That’s impressive, typos or not.

Reply

In case anyone is interested, I saw on the Lululemon website that they list this as a prize:

“Runner’s who complete the challenge will recieve a surpirse and delight of 25% off discount code via email by Wednesday, January 24, 2018.”

Not a great as free clothing, but it’s better than nothing! :)

You know what? If you’re ready to run, run! You don’t have to prove a point to readers. I definitely ran before 6 weeks PP with both kids and it was just fine. I listened to my body and just eased in. I wish you didn’t feel like you have to stick to an arbitrary rule. You’ve been running a long time and I’m sure you have a great sense of your own body!

Applreciate the recommendation. Let mme try it out.
