Where do I even start with this!? I feel like I have a million things I want to tell you and want to remember about December 8th so let’s just go ahead and get started. PS there might be a little tmi involved but what do you expect from me:) Thank you so much for letting me share my thoughts with you!
I mentioned on Thursday (the 7th) that I felt more and more off as the day went on! Friday morning I woke up and definitely had some great contractions going on… it was go time! I have had a few people ask if I ran the morning that I had Skye and the answer is definitely a NO ha. The idea of running made me want to pass out and I was really tired from the night before of contractions. Andrew’s cousin (bless his heart) came over to be with the kids Friday morning until my mom could get there (thanks mom)!
Can you believe the view from our room? It was a huge room and the view of the mountains was the absolute best. I overpacked just a bit (especially since we only stayed for one day) but I was so happy to feel like I had everything I could ever need! Thank you so much for all of the suggestions..
My favorite thing that I brought (thanks to you guys) was my pillow from home. Those hospital pillows were about as thick as a poster board ha so I was so happy to have my pillow. Don’t mind my tired eyeballs.
Andrew did a great job packing too… He even brought some candy for afterwards in case I liked candy again (spoiler: I do).
At around eleven my sister was able to come and hang out with us for a bit. While she was there I had my epidural done and both she and Andrew watched. Andrew because he loves everything medical and my sister because she thought it was fun to be on the other side of everything for once ha. To all of you that have gone through labor and delivery without an epidural, I just need your autograph.
Please note my lip gloss was right next to me the entire time on that little table… I was not going to do this without my favorite addiction ha.
I remember with Brooke that I didn’t eat before going into the hospital because I didn’t know that you couldn’t eat while there (at least with an epidural) so I had a waffle and eggs before going in and then lots of ice while we were there. They even let you have flavored ice so I felt like I ate snow cones all day long. After a little while my sister left to get her kids and then Andrew and I just hung out. We watched shows together (King of Queens, Family Feud and Ellen) and kind of called it a date to be able to just hang out with each other with nowhere to go:)
PS Brooke was with my mom loving life the entire weekend and Knox was with his mom! It worked out really nicely.
For a long time after getting to the hospital my body was not wanting to progress very quickly at all (just like with Brooke). She was still high up and just wanting to hang out for a while. At around 4:00 they checked me and said we still had a few hours to go so Andrew took a little nap and I got comfortable to just hang out.
At around 4:50 pm I woke up Andrew and told him that I was positive she was RIGHT THERE and ready to come out. I couldn’t believe how quickly I felt her move, it was bizarre. It actually made me crazy nauseated with how fast it went in those 50 minutes and that meant my water broke when I threw up. Andrew hurried and called the nurse and she came in and sure enough, I was a 10 and ready to go. My doctor was not quite there yet (we thought we definitely had some time) but nope! We really wanted my doctor to be there because he is our favorite (he has 10 kids of his own and he delivered a few of my sister’s kids… he is the best) so we held off pushing for a little while until he rushed into the room. Luckily, this hospital has an OBGYN at the hospital at all times (this hospital has on average 11 babies a day ((I might not be exact but they told me it was around that number)) and he hung out in my room until my doctor got there!
We also texted my sister at five to RUN OVER. We were thinking we would just have it be the two of us at the delivery but last second I changed my mind and asked her to come. I really wanted pictures and a video suddenly and it was amazing to share the experience with her too! She got there right in time too (sorry to be so last second sissy ha)!
Once my doctor was there they told me it was time to push! With Brooke I remember it taking SO long and so much work to push (it felt way harder than any of my races in the past) but Skye was a bit different. With two contractions of pushing, Skye joined us! We also really lucked out because there was no tearing/stitches or anything which means all I’ve had is a few Ibuprofen and that’s it (strong painkillers make me so nauseated and I’ve loved not having to have any of that)!
When they first gave Skye to me I realized I kind of forgot how to hold an infant… she seemed SO tiny to me but within a few seconds it felt normal again.
And then I got beyond emotional (I felt like I was hit by every happy emotion there ever was so quickly, it was amazing). I could feel her little spirit so strong right away and it was a moment that I had seriously dreamed about for so many years. I couldn’t believe it was actually happening and I will never forget how I felt in that moment.
The nurses and doctor let me have skin to skin contact for about an hour which felt like 5 minutes but I loved it.
We named her Skye Jo and fell in love with her name the moment we thought of it. Andrew came up with Skye (we started our name search by trying to think of one syllable names to match Knox and Brooke). When he first said the name Skye (it was the second name he suggested) I automatically said yes, we both felt like it was the perfect name for her. After that we thought of Jo for her middle name! Jo is my mom’s middle name (same spelling) and as you know we are obsessed with my mom so it worked out perfect.
During this time she kept trying to suck her thumb and she still does!
I love that these little babies can recognize our voices once they join us!
And this was Andrew’s first time holding her. He was right there with me crying and soaking in every second of the whole experience. He also cut the chord which was really special.
From there they took her away and weighed her! She was 7 lbs and 5 ounces which is just 1 ounce off from what I told Andrew I thought she would weigh right before she was born. She was also 18 inches long and had the pinkest skin and quite healthy lungs:)
She had her first little bath once we moved down into my next room and they put her first bow on!
Even though we were exhausted it was so hard for us to put her down and fall asleep! The adrenaline was intense from the evening and we had to force ourselves to sleep because if it didn’t happen then, it wasn’t going to happen again for a while ha!
She’s got some spikey hair just like Brooke did:) We see a little mixture of both Knox and Brooke in her face!
We had a great experience at our hospital and loved all of the nurses and the doctor so much!
This picture was from the next day but I was SO HUNGRY after having Skye. My hunger hit right away and that night we had three dinners ha. One from Andrew’s parents, a turkey sandwich right after having her and then we ordered more later on that night too. Our hospital didn’t put a limit on how much food you ordered (it comes as part of your stay) and it is really good for hospital food which was so nice now that I finally don’t feel full after 2 bites ha.
Recovery has gone really well so far and I feel like I could run in a week or two but I’m not going to (I’m waiting six weeks). I’m so loving staying in bed with Skye most of the day and focusing on learning how to feed her and take care of her. Running is always there for us when we are ready for it!
Oh and those cramps that happen after having the baby… I forgot about those, ha, but other than those a few times a day I’m feeling really good! The kids have asked me if I have another baby in my stomach still but we’ve talked all about how normal that is after a baby but they were a little disappointed when I said no… they want more already!
The other question Knox had for me after first seeing me was if I liked candy again. I think it really stressed him out that I went without candy for so long… I reassured him that I did.
Thank you for letting me tell you all about this pregnancy and now our time with Skye! I’ve been so excited to write this all down so I could remember everything!
We are already so beyond in love with this little one! This picture was from our first outing together yesterday. Andrew had a shift at the hospital so we bundled up and took Brooke to school!

Congratulations and thanks for sharing! I love hearing birth stories!! I had my first baby in July and he was TEN DAYS LATE!! Those ten days were torture haha My water broke at nine days late and contractions started about right away. We went to the hospital that evening and I labored all night before I broke down and got the epidural. It was heaven. I took a nap for a couple hours and was laid in some crazy positions to try to get him to go down. After several hours I was finally complete and ready to push and an hour of pushing later there he was! 9.8 pounds! It didn’t hurt but man I couldn’t believe the pressure!! Haha hopefully my next baby is smaller

My dad’s birthday is on the 16th and in South Africa it is a public holiday, growing up I thought it was because it’s his birthday that it is a public holiday. I love reading birth stories! And she is just precious! I remember when I had my first child. He was 6 1/2 weeks early! I thought it was just false labor but went to the hospital anyways. My water had broke and he was coming! He spent 2 weeks in the NICU and went home on a monitor. But now he is 15 and bigger than me! It’s fun to look at pictures of him when he was a baby and then look at him now! My other two didn’t make quite the dramatic appearance ;)

I had to be induced both times, but had VERY VERY different experiences!
With my daughter, I was induced on February 2, 2016 at 41 weeks due to high blood pressure and a failed non-stress test (my induction date was originally scheduled at 41 weeks and 5 days). My progress was nill with the miso pill and Pitocin so they had to do a foley bulb to manually dilate me from 1 to 3cm on February 3rd. On February 4th, they kept upping my Pitocin till I gave in and got an epidural. I ended up taking a really nice nap and was able to relax and I think my body started to figure out the whole labor thing after that, haha. My girlfriend was a L&D nurse (she was my nurse on the 3rd) at the time and she came back up to the hospital and stayed by my side and I believe that having her there and manipulate the peanut ball to get my daughter to move down was the reason I was able to have her vaginally. She really and truly advocated for me and convinced my doctor to be more patient. Izzy ended up coming 48 hours after my induction started at 11:29pm, weighing 7lbs, 12oz and 21.5” long! Her birth was really scary though and she failed her APGAR test pretty badly at 1 minute and she had to be taken to the NICU almost immediately following her birth for meconium aspiration and because I got a fever while in labor (I guess it’s common for long labors). She’s a healthy and strong girl today, though – just a scary start to her life!
With my son, I made it to my induction date at 41 weeks and 5 days pregnant on August 27, 2017…I was in triage waiting to get checked in to my room and I kept hearing that I was a “shoulder alert” patient, meaning that I was going to have a big baby (the ultrasound tech estimated 9lbs, 4oz). I was kind of freaking out about that and when I finally got into my room at 11pm, I asked my nurse what I could do to not become a shoulder alert, haha, and she told me nothing and that I’d probably have a few residents in the room to watch / assist. Anyways, my contractions were so close together (I wasn’t progressing much, though) at the time so my nurse made me drink a lot of water and ran my IV a little faster to try and slow them down so I could take the miso pill. That was around midnight. Around 3:00am my water broke and my contractions were starting to get crazy intense and I was 3cm dilated. My midwife checked me around 4:30am and I was 4.5cm. I. Was. Dying. In fact, I told my midwife and husband that I wanted to die and they laughed at me! Anyways, I told them I was caving and wanted an epidural (both times I told them that I’d let them know when I wanted pain control). My midwife ordered it at 5am and I went to the bathroom to well, use the bathroom for the last time before being bedridden. Let’s just say I wasn’t really pushing what I thought I was pushing because something started to feel very, very wrong and when I stood up, I knew that my baby was coming. I came out gripping my IV cart with sheer fright on my face and within 10 minutes my son, John, was born. They didn’t even have time to break down my bed or call in for back ups because of his shoulder alert situation. He was born at 5:20am on August 28, weighing 9lbs, 2oz and 21” long.

What a perfect birth experience!!! I love one syllable names too, 2 of my 3 kids are Reece and Brynn. My oldest is Liam, so I love short names! Epidurals didn’t work well with my body, so I did natural with my last baby. It was awesome! Painful of course, but went so much smoother and quickly and recovery was much easier. I know natural sounds scary, but I believe every woman is capable of it, if they want it.

Your birth story sounds so much like mine!
They told me at about midnight that I was not having baby until at least the late morning. I woke up at 3 AM super nauseated and wanted to throw up. I told the nurse to check because I just had this feeling. Sure enough – It was go time! She couldn’t believe it! I had to push for about an hour and half (first baby). Also, I was so so so thirsty and starving immediately after birth! I drank so much apple juice and ordered a feast from the kitchen. Isnt it just amazing how all of a sudden you can “eat” again! :) Oh and before I started pushing, I had my husband hand me my lip gloss. So we have that in common too!
So happy for you. You deserve this, Janae. You are good person and good things happen to good people.

Love it. Congratulations! I was due about 2 weeks after you but gave birth on 12/6/17. Went in for my 37 week (and 4 days) check up. Baby was only measuring 36 weeks and wasn’t moving slot. Doctor sent me straight to hospital. Hooked me up and baby was great but scheduled c-section for the next morning. Perfect delivery. She was 19 inches long, 5 pounds and 10 ounces. My hubby went with her while i was stitched up then I was wheeled into recovery and got to hold my baby. She went to the nursery while I was in recovery for a bit longer. I had some nausea and had to get more meds. Typically a c-section stay is 3 days but we left after 48 hours since momma and baby were doing so well. Doctor suspects that she wasn’t happy on the inside because my body had been fighting off sickness for 2 weeks. She is 2 pounds smaller than my first and just so tiny. But she is mighty. She’s a week old today. I look forward to running again since I haven’t been able to while i was pregnant. I am very much enjoying staying at home with baby though.

OMG, I’m sitting in my classroom (with students who are reading), and I just looked at that picture of you crying/emotional when you held Skye after she was born, and I’m all teary here!!!!! So beautiful. Raw human emotion!
My births were kinda similar to yours. There were no complications with my first daughter; she just took a little longer to push. But, with daughter #2, 2 pushes, and she was OUT! We barely made it to the hospital on time. She was one day late, and I was convinced she was never coming out (so dramatic! ha!), so I didn’t take my contractions seriously enough, I guess!
December birthdays are POPULAR! My oldest daughter is 12/7; my husband is 12/16, and we have about 3-5 other family/friend birthdays in December. It does bleed my wallet dry a bit. ha ha I don’t think I’d love having a December birthday, but my daughter loves it, so……..

She is so sweet! With my last baby I passed out while they were giving me the IV. I’m not normally like that but it’s a good thing I was laying down lol. Then my epidural wore off a little and I started throwing up all at the same time. It was a really weird birth haha. By second was the best but she did a ton of damage. Like a 4 degree tear! So that took forever to recover from. So I’m really happy for you that you don’t have to worry about that.

When I had my first, right when I found out I was pregnant I asked my ob if I could have a c-section(I don’t do well with pain). I went ahead and took off from work on the day he was supposed to be born, but nothing happened. I was at home for a couple of days and my dr. said let’s induce so I went in, and they started the induction. I slept fine that night woke up the next morning, nothing happening. Around lunchtime, my parents took my husband out to eat, and of course, while they were gone, my ob decided that we should break my water to get things going. So she broke my water which hurt like crazy, and then I actually had a contraction, and that hurt too. My husband got back and we waited and waited still nothing really happening, they gave me an epidural bc it hurt. Around 5:45 -6ish pm my doctor told me I was still at 3 cm and had stalled. So it was time to think about a c-section I said sure let’s go. So they took me in and 7:30 I had my little guy. He was little only 6lb 3 oz, much to my hoping he would be bigger and therefore my “weight” was mostly him, lol. He looked like a little old man. For my daughter, I had a planned c-section so that was much easier. I do think my recovery was easier with my second but I think my body knew I needed to recover faster.

Thanks for sharing! My two boys were born at home (in the Netherlands that’s a choice you can make). The first one took a long time to be born, but it was quite cosy with the midwife telling stories beside my bed. The second one went a lot quicker, the midwife wanted to leave for a while to visit another patient, but I had a shower and that started it all in earnest. I think he was born an hour after that. The twins were induced and born in hospital. At 2 pm I got a little inpatient, but the obgyn said he didn’t have to sit at dinner at 5 pm. So our daughter was born at 5 to 5, and our son at 5 after. And no epidurals at any of my deliveries. Don’t be shocked, but our daughter was in breech. I definitely didn’t want a c-section because I already had two normal deliveries, and it takes so much longer to recover. With two boys already running around, and twins too. Luckily my obgyn wanted to try, if there would have been any danger, of course I wouldn’t object. They’re now 14 years old. Our sons and my husband all have one syllable names (Hans, Bart, Joost, Max) and my daughter’s name is Femke. After I had the twins I was so hungry and thirsty too. Take care!

I had my little girl, Harper, two months ago. At 39 and 5 we planned to induce because my scoliosis was making my back and hips hurt so badly. But Harper has her own plans. Instead of being induced at 2am on the 11th, I went to the hospital at 8pm on the 10th with major contractions. I didn’t need to be induced, got the wonderful epidural, pushed for 30 minutes and she was born at 8:11am on the 11th.
The entire experience was amazing but the best was when my brother met her. We did skin to skin for about an hour and then let family in to meet her, they had been there a while and actually heard her cry right after she was born because their family waiting room was right next to my room.
Anyway, last year my brother got pneumonia, was septic, incubated, and at one point in the ICU he was given a 10% chance of surviving and I had to sign a DNR for my 30 year old baby brother. This year he is recovered, has control over his alcoholism, attends AA regularly, and has a new job which he loves. So seeing him walk into my room, give me a huge hug and then hold my baby girl was the most amazing thing. He adores her and visits us all the time. I’m so thankful he’s doing well and is here to be an amazing uncle to my little girl.
Also, during the worst contractions I asked my husband to hold the framed picture of my dad in front of my face. During that pain I asked my dad to help me and give me comfort. Those contractions didn’t hurt as bad and I felt a calming feel come into the room. I honestly feel my dad was there with us protecting and comforting his baby girl from heaven.

So beautiful!!! I love reading birth stories and I love that Skye has joined your family!! I have two daughters Rylee and Hayley and we’re not done yet…I’m making a list of all the ‘ey/ee’ names so we can all have the same ending.
I went in at 3:00pm my due date with Rylee with a slow leak. Since it was my water leaking I had to stay and I tried to labor on my own. At 12:00 the next day the doctor told me we should try pitocin because of leaking fluids for too long. So we started pitocin and I got an epidural at the same time. I panicked about getting pitocin and this hospital was so small they only had 1 anesthesiologist for the entire hospital. The nurse told me I could end up without one. After I got th epidural I was able to take a nap and then a similar situation happened to you…I went from 0 to puke city in a matter of minutes. Then it was go time. 27 hours of labor later Rylee Rose was born on my Dads Birthday ?
My second was way different. I chose to get induced at 39 weeks. I was pregnant in August in Idaho – we averaged 17 days of 100 degrees or more…and I hadn’t progressed from my 36 week appointment so I said let’s do this I’m over it. So I went in on my induction day and we started pitocin right away and I progressed pretty quickly. My water broke at 12 and I got an epidural an hour later. I didn’t have any of the same intense ness. The nurse checked me and I was a 10 and I said good because I feel like I need to push. 45 minutes later Hayley Anne joined us on 8/24/17.
I really struggled with Choosing to be induced. I wanted so badly to do things ‘naturally’ and felt like I was picking the easy impatient way not waiting. When my water broke there was a lot of mecodium in it so the NICU team had to be on standby during labor and had to be present in the delivery room. As soon as the doctor told me I started crying both relieved and scared tears. I was relieved because l knew to trust my gut and go with the induction.
I hear you on the cramping! There were some parts of recovery that I completely forgot about. And my moms birthday is 12/18!

Thank you for the story! Did you throw away the pillow you brought with you to the hospital? I totally get bringing your own. But I feel like hospitals are germ-ridden and I would think everything would need to be sterilized or something after! And since you can’t put a pillow in the washing machine, I’d be afraid to bring it back! Or is this just my own germaphobe-ness?? :)

Skye is the sweetest little miss!!!! I love birth stories! All three of my kids came early and were fairly fast labors. I pushed two times and they were here. Yay for loving candy again! My favorites are Reeses Pieces, Hot Tamales(add them to your popcorn, trust me), and Junior Mints(freeze them first and then enjoy)!

My birth: I labored 10.5 hours w pitocin and no epidural. It was a fast labor but very intense at the end. I played calming music and had the lights dim and my mom and husband massaged my back throughout the contraction. I also used an exercise ball to bounce a ton. I wasn’t afraid of the pain and equated it to a marathon. Mentally I did hypnobirthing techniques and imagined a wave throughout my contractions. My mom also said prayers throughout that really helped! I labored throughout the night. Such an amazing experience!!! I love how each birth story is so unique and special! Congrats on your family!

Beautiful story, Janae! I teared up when I saw the pic of you crying and how emotional you are. Seriously, if I see someone cry, it’s over! My story wasn’t as grand as everyone else’s. My water broke the morning of my scheduled c-section. Afterwards, I was so highly nauseous and shivering so hard from the meds. I couldn’t hold the babies but I remember my husband held our son and a nurse was holding my daughter as they stitched me back up and she kept crying. The nurse brought her over to me and placed her so she was touching my face and she stopped crying. It was a really special moment I’ll always remember. It really is magical how they just know who you are! :) Your story makes me miss them at that stage so much. :) Skye is beautiful, Janae…just like her name! Have a great day!

Skye has the same birthday as my sister! She is my irish twin. We are currently the same age for another week. My birthday is on the 21st. We used to always get asked if we were twin. It’s funny when people ask when we are the same age and we tell them, no but we are the same age. Throws people off all the time.
With my daughter, she was induced. Drugs at 7a, epideral at 1145, sent my sister and husband downstairs for lunch. My OB came to check in on me at 145p and asked if I felt the need to push. Why? Her head was right there! I had to call my husband and sister to come back up. A flurry of nurses were in and out to set up and my daughter was born at 223p. Unfortunately, I only got to hold my daughter skin to skin for like 5″ before they whisked her away b/c I couldn’t keep her warm.

I also have a daughter who was born Dec 10th, 2014, and another daughter whose birthday is today (born Dec 13, 2009) It’s party week at our house! (Our poor 5 year old whose birthday is in February is feeling really ripped off she has to wait for hers.)

I had to be induced with my little guy because I was having blood pressure spikes and I’m over 35 by a few years ;) The induction took 3 days (several interventions were used), and two of those days I was in pretty rough shape, pain-wise. But, I only pushed for 15 minutes! I actually really liked pushing. It was peaceful, exciting, and I felt like I was actually doing something I had control over.
I loved candy, but HATED gum my entire pregnancy. I am happy to say that it tastes fantastic again. Yay, fresh breath!
It’s been hard to wait 6 weeks to run because the weather here in upstate NY has been abnormally warm (except today, of course… it’s 12 degrees and snowing/windy). I’m hoping to be cleared Friday at my 6 week checkup. If not, though, it’s fine. Like you said, running will always be there.

I had my daughter, Maeve, Nov. 27 so it has been fun reading your blog while being in the same stages of pregnancy! This was my 2nd baby as well and the best part was pushing for 25 minutes vs 3 hrs with my son! We didn’t know the gender but we’re convinced it was another boy, when my husband handed her to me and I was the one to check I was absolutely shocked to see it was a girl and couldn’t stop crying happy tears.
I think going through it a second time you know and look forward to how amazing it is to hold them for the first time so the emotions are so strong!
I’m also waiting 6 weeks to run again and looking forward to reading about postpartum running!!

I had ac-section with Lukas (now almost 12) so that recovery was a little rough….it is just more painful…you cannot bend over to pick anything up etc. Overall, recovery moved along pretty quickly – it was all worth it!
Well, I am allergic to chocolate so I pick sour candy! My son LOVES sour anything and prefers sorbet or sour candy over ice cream. However I can have white chocolate so I love white chocolate pb cups….mmmmmmm, now I am drooling, thanks a lot.

How wonderful for you all! Congratulations and I am so happy to read that you are doing well. I didn’t have an epidural with either child (9lbs. 7 oz, and 8 lbs 13 oz). But with my daughter, they broke my water and I went to 10 cm so fast the pain was INTENSE and I told my husband that I wanted an epidural and he said “no” and I reached up and grabbed his shirt collar and yanked him down to my face and said “I WANT AN EPIDURAL”…but the reason he said “no” was because it was too late. She was born about 6 minutes later….we can laugh about it now that she is 14….

Birth stories are my favorite. My 1st recovery was okay, not terrible lots of stitches and I didn’t ever need pain meds but it was new and I didn’t know what to expect. My 2nd, I couldn’t even tell I had a baby, I was ready to hike the next day. My last well he was a different story, and he wasn’t my biggest baby either. He weighed a whopping 6 lbs but between the busted blood vessels in my eyes and the broken tail bone, I took a bit longer to recover. I hiked the next week :) Still no pain meds and all three drug free deliveries … all so special in their own way. I hope I get to experience it all once more :)

I could totally relate to the intense nausea that comes when the baby shifts quickly just before arriving…I remember having to throw up immediately and my husband said to the nurse “I think she’s sick, why did that happen”? and she smiled at him and said “perfectly normal, your baby is coming very soon” :)

i went to the hospital on new years day b/c i was having bloody show. they monitored me for about 2-3 hours and then released me saying nothing was happening. we went out to have sushi for dinner that evening. the next morning the early labor started! 15 hours later (and a walk to the hospital, laboring in the waiting room b/c there were no labor rooms!, and hanging out in the triage room took up about 3-4 hours, then finally getting to the labor room) and it was all done. started at around 8 am, she was born at 11:30 pm… apparently everyone was giving birth that day, not just me, and they say it happens in waves!

awwww, I just LOVE birth stories! I had a similar experience as you-*all of a sudden* moment. I delivered at the hospital I worked at so my co-workers were also my nurse’s. I got to reach down and deliver my 3rd baby and only girl (I had a boy for #4). AND, I also had a turkey sandwich practically immediately. What is it with that? It’s actually a very common request.
I see both kiddos in Skye, too. That has got to just warm your hearts. You have the sweetest kiddos.
My bday is in December. the 30th. Honestly, it’s hard. There’s just no way around it. BUT, I do just LOVE winter and all the pretty lights and colors and how festive it is. I just know that you and Andrew will make Skye’s birthday super special and not use any Christmas wrap on her presents (hint).

Congratulations! Oh I so love to read birth stories. The recovery from my first was 1000x harder than the second. Honestly my second I felt like I could do anything after he was born. It was only the slightest bit tender where as after my first I felt like I’d been kicked by a horse for weeks!
I had an epidural for my first as like you I took ages to progress, it was an induction three weeks early as I get a condition called obstetric cholestasis so he had to be born and it took two days. The second was also an induction and it took a while again but much quicker. I was getting really uncomfortable towards night but they checked me and told me I wasn’t in labour and it was just prostin pains (from the gel they insert to make you dilate) so they gave me pethidine so I could sleep. Then literally 1.5 hours later he was born! So there was no time for an epidural even though I wanted one! The most intense and overwhelming experience of my life! I could talk birth stories all day long. Congratulations again. Skye is absolutely perfect!

My daughter’s birth story is a little complicated. I got really sick at around 26 weeks and was diagnosed with sudden onset severe preeclampsia and they admitted me right away. The plan was to keep me in the hospital until I was 34 weeks and then they would induce labor. My preeclampsia quickly turned into HELLP syndrome and I ended up having her at 28 weeks and 5 days via emergency c-section (so I was put under). She was 2 lbs 5 oz and 14 inches long. Tiny but mighty! She stayed in the NICU for 65 days before coming home. We were so blessed that she had an easy stay, only one minor bump in the road when an IV infiltrated in her ankle causing a nasty burn/ scar. She is now 19 months old and almost caught up with other kiddos her age! She’s in physical therapy to help with motor skills and just about two weeks ago, she started walking!!! Life with her is pretty great and I had no idea how much I could love her! Being a mom is the greatest gift. <3

She is absolutely gorgeous! My birth story was not pleasant at all! I was in hard labor for 5 days! Everything that I didn’t want happen pretty much did. I went into labor right on my due date but she didn’t want to come out. I luckily was able to not have a csection and experience giving birth. Since my labor was hard, my recovery was even harder. I didn’t start feeling “normal” until maybe five weeks postpartum. im glad you had such a lovely experience. Congrats again!!

I didn’t have that moment that you had at the hospital where you were just overjoyed and happy. I really struggled with if I wanted to be a mom even up until having him. After having gone through infertility for so long I was so used to it being just me and my husband and was really content with that lifestyle. That moment that I realized this is really for me and what I want happened about a week after and it definitely was one I will forever remember.
My Mom-in-laws birthday is December 9.

Congrats to the whole family. The last part of the birth sounds a bit like my youngest. The nurse came in and we all took guesses how dialated I was before she checked. She gets down there and gasps then runs to find the doctor while instructing me not to cough or laugh since I was already at 10 very unexpectedly. Of course I start laughing awkwardly while my husband is freaking out.

Congratulations!!! I’m so excited for your sweet family. My third is 5 months old now. As much as I totally remember all of my deliveries, this third one seems so much more memorable. I decided I wanted to try no epidural. I had some lasting complications with my second because of the epidural. It wasn’t as difficult as I thought it would be. 4 1/2 hours in a nice hot shower singing was awesome. From the time my water broke to the time he was delivered was 30 minutes. I was shaking afterwards horribly and uncontrollably and I just kept apologizing for shaking. The nurses were cracking up. My little guy came so fast my doctor wasn’t there yet and there was no way I was waiting. ? The nurse delivered him and he had his cord wrapped around his neck, I had a feeling he did, and he had shoulder dystocia, his shoulder got stuck on the way out. We’re super fortunate that everything ended up okay. I definitely had to have stitches, but my little guy is so perfect. Little Bruce Wayne, named after our dad’s not Batman, is my July 4th firecracker. Recovery was WAY easier. I felt like I could run the next day, I didn’t, but I felt incredible. I’m glad I tried no epidural and I’d do it all over again.

I’ve had four kids. Each has a different type of birth from epidural, to natural, to c-section, and finally our last was an emergency c-section. I went in for my regular appointment, and for the last month my blood pressure had been dangerously high, so I’d get a non stress test in the afternoon and everything would be fine. I was expecting that sort of thing, but no. During my appointment they diagnosed me with severe pre eclampsia and they wanted to send me over to labor and deliver just to be monitored for a while. I had two of my other kids with me and called my husband to let him know the situation and ask him to pick them up. After they ran tests and nothing was changing my Doc said she thought we needed to get the baby out right away. I’d been sick the night before and that morning so I hadn’t eaten anything and they prepped me for a c-section an hour later and #4 was born that day! He had to spend a week in the NICU and I didn’t have anything packed or ready but it was nice to get him home and start adjusting to life with four.
My oldest was born December 16th and it is kind of a drag because it gets busy and Christmas takes over. We are actually going to start celebrating his birthday in the summer so it can be more about him.
Also, congrats on the name. My oldest brother is Steven Jay and because my dad is also Steven our family called him S.J. for the longest time. My cousins still do. Anyway, when I saw Skye Jo, I thought, “They can call her S.J.!” If you are into nicknames… which my family is!

Janae! WHat a beautiful story. I couldn’t help but tear up myself. So glad you are both doing well-my now 2 year old was born December 7th so we will have to set them up in about 16 years =). Enjoy this time. With both my boys I started running about 2 weeks after they were born. I felt good and wanted to get out again! Mind you it was like 2 very slow miles at a time. There is nothing like having a newborn. Soak it all in and have as many non productive days as you can. They won’t last forever! =)
