12 Things from Our Day!

In case you missed out this weekend—>  WE HAD OUR BABY!!! Here, here and here are some posts about it so far.  I’ll have a birth story up sometime this week!

HAPPY MONDAY! Brooke is back home (Knox comes back on Wednesday) and we are snuggling and figuring out how to sleep again over here(also, if my grammar is even worse than normal… you know why;)!

Andrew and Knox are currently outnumbered (Beretta is a girl too)…

*I looked down at my planner yesterday and it felt so good to see what my week looks like.  Nada.  And the best part is that Skye is here with us before we thought she would be! As far as blogging goes, I had no idea what I was going to do after having Skye for the first few weeks but right now I feel like I’ll probably have a new blog post up most days of the week and just play it by ear.  I love having a ‘journal’ (I feel like my blog is my journal) of Brooke’s first few weeks to look back on so I kind of want the same with Skye.  My posts will probably be short for a bit during this time but I love hearing from you guys so keep me updated on what is going on in your world too!  I bet you are really going to miss my daily sweaty running selfies.  Those will be back in January, don’t you worry;)

IMG 3864

*We left the hospital Saturday night at around 8 pm.  We felt ready to be in our own bed and so we were off!  We had a great experience with our nurses, doctor and the food at the hospital but there is nothing like being at home.

IMG 3842

*Andrew had Beretta back when Knox was a newborn so this is her second go around with a newborn.  We have had her smell a few of Skye’s blankets to catch her smell and she hasn’t left Andrew’s side.  It’s amazing to see her try to figure out what is going on.  I can’t believe how alert she is about Skye’s every move and noise.

IMG 3848

*Our Sunday involved as much skin to skin contact as possible.

IMG 3858

*She figures out how to get her little hand out within seconds of being swaddled… I just need to up my swaddle game.  The kids said she looked like a burrito when they saw her swaddled ha.

IMG 3862

*We had our first time alone when Andrew went to pick up Brooke!

IMG 3865

*And then she was home!  She had the time of her life with my mom and we are so happy to have her home again.

IMG 7001

*Brooke is quite interested in everything that Skye does too.  She does a good job studying everything.

IMG 3868

*Yep, a very good job.

LRG DSC01348

*My mom sent dinner home with Andrew along with undercooked brownies.  I can’t even explain how wonderful it is to love food again.  Everything just tasted so blah and weird during pregnancy and I’m gladly welcoming all of my pregnancy aversions back into my life.   Just in time for the holidays too:)

LRG DSC01337

*Oh, I also don’t think I have ever been so thirsty in my entire life.  I am going through this water bottle crazy fast.  SO FAR breastfeeding is going well but I’ll write a post about that whole thing on the baby blog soon!

LRG DSC01360

I hope your Monday is fabulous!

What is your run today?  I’ll just be living through you for the next little while so give me the details!

What are you looking forward to this week?

Wow! Congrats! What a wonderful time and beautiful baby! Such a cute family!

Congrats again times a million! I know how happy you all must be right now!!!

I’m writing from the doctor’s office. I will find out if I get my stitches out today. If I do then I will probably get cleared to run! *fingers crossed*

(Although I am terrified of having these stitches taken out. I know everyone says it doesn’t hurt but how can it not hurt?!)

Janae,
Triplet mama here who wants to give you a big hug of congratulations!!! Now you have your 3 :). Hope that you are able to get some sleep as that is critical. Brooke is definitely going to be a big help and Know too. It has been a gift to watch you and your family welcome this new baby into the world, so thank you!!
Fondly,
Michelle

Hey Michelle,
I see you’re a mama to triplets!! :) I have twins and we’re expecting our third in April. The twins and our new baby boy will be 20 months apart. I was wondering if you have any recommendations on a great triple stroller?? We have no idea ha! Also any advice you may have is welcome! :) Thanks so much!

Christina – have you tried googling to see if there’s a local multiples association? When my brothers(triplets) were en route we found one and got a good used triplet stroller(similar to this one https://www.target.com/p/foundations-trio-sport-3-passenger-stroller-red). Try multiplesofamerica.org! It’s a great way to get used stuff and meet local families that also have multiples :)

Reply

Thanks so much for the tips! I am part of a local multiples group and have been on the lookout for a used stroller we could use but haven’t seen anything yet. I’ll definitely check out multiplesofamerica.org! Thank you again!! :)

Btw the link said product not available:/

Christina,
My triplets are 17 now, but we had a Peg Perego. They are spiffier now by the looks of it on Amazon, though still the same price! It was so durable that our preschool still uses it.
Let me know if you have other questions and congratulations!!!
Michelle

Reply

Ok thank you so much Michelle! :) We actually used Peg Perego infant car seats for the twins. I’ve researched the peg perego triple stroller a bit and have heard great things but that it is very large and may not even fit in many vans. That would be my only concern. Did you run into this problem?

Reply

Never had problems fitting in the van. We had a ’97 Grand Voyager back then. I would just remove the seats from the chassis and stack them in the back behind the seats. Take care!!

Reply

Ok great! Thank you!

Was she born on the 8th or the 9th? My son’s birthday is the 8th so I’m hoping they share a birthday! Enjoy this time… it’s so precious. <3

Reply

She’s SO SO precious, and I’m so happy for you! You’re an amazing mom to Brooke, and I know you are to Skye now, too :)

I’m looking forward to bowling this afternoon for our company holiday party (I just really love bowling), and I’m excited that I’ll actually get to rest this weekend and not have to travel. I ran 5 easy miles this morning, so that was a nice way to kick-start the week!

I love the side eye look Beretta is giving Andrew/Skye in the picture. It’s so obvious she’s not 100% tuned into what’s happening yet. Today’s workouts are 400m repeats! If you’re interested, feel free to come join me ;)

P.S Skye’s due date is my younger brother’s birthday and he came early too! Something about December babies I guess.

Reply

oh janae, she is just PERFECT and so beautiful. my heart is exploding with happiness for you and your family. best wishes for health and happiness (and some sleep :) xoxoxo

Reply

Congratulations again – she is absolutely precious! I love babies, and she is especially cute! :)
No run today – just an hour long TRX workout. I’ve only been doing TRX for a couple of weeks, but I would 100% recommend it to anyone. It’s such a great, low impact form of training. And it looks easier than it is – the movements are hard, necessarily, but it’s a killer workout!
My countdown is on – 10 days of work (plus two weekend days) and I will have 11 days off – I CAN’T WAIT!
Edge pieces are my favorite! And I do like undercooked brownies and certain cookies/blondies. Something about how soft and chewy they are makes them irresistible.
I hope you and Skye (and everyone else) has a great day!

Reply

I do not think I could say congratulations enough. :) Skye is BEAUTIFUL! So happy for you and your family. <3

Reply

She is perfect Janae! Congrats to all of you!!!! Thanks for sharing her with us so early!

Reply

Skye is such a doll! Love Brooks face when she’s holding her! Glad to hear breastfeeding is going well. I hope your getting at least some sleep! Oh and for me, I’ll take any part of the brownie!! Middle, edge, corner… Love them all equally!!

Reply

Wow! Congratulations! What a wonderful early christmas present.
Great job with everything! And remember to be kind to yourself as you (and your family!) get used to the new baby. Nothing needs to be perfect. As long as everyone is fed (including you! Andrew should be bringing you meals! :-)), you are doing an amazing job. The laundry, clean-up, cooking, blogging, grooming and socializing can wait. Don’t be afraid to ask for or pay for help!
Fun fact: back in the late 1800’s, new mothers used to spend at least the first 4 weeks in bed with their babies so they could concentrate on feeding them and helping them grow, as well as recovering. The extended family members (back then, women), would bring food, help bathe, and tend to the house and other kids while the mother tended solely to the baby. I think we need to bring this practice back, ha!! :-)

Your family is beautiful. Enjoy!

Congratulations, again, Jane and Andrew! Janae, you are just gorgeous. Skye is precious and so sweet and the photos with her and Brooke are adorable! I am so happy for you guys, I had tears just streaming down my face while reading this. Your family is beautiful!! Take as much time as you need for you and Skye and just update us when you can :-) Oh and I am SO happy for you that food tastes good again and you can enjoy Christmas yumminess!!!!

Reply

loved this update Janae:) I am so glad that everything is going well so far:) Loved seeing your planner and I am glad it is blank this week! I didn’t run today….it was a weights & elliptical gym morning;) I am not typically a huge brownie fan but I LOVE the brownie batter and sometimes I make them just to eat the batter;)…. Have a great winter day snuggling and nursing.

Reply

Congrats! I am so excited for you! I’m due in April and you have made me even more excited to welcome my little one. Enjoy the first few days at home they are so precious ?

Reply

CONGRATULATIONS!! She is just beautiful and I love her name – Skye so go gorgeous.
I did a quick 2 miles this morning with my pup but we’ll probably do a few more miles when I get home from work.
Don’t hate me, I’m not a brownie person at all :( I’d rather have cookies or cake!
Enjoy you family time with your new little girl!

Reply

Congratulations!!!!!! She is just precious! So happy for you all!! Definitely like the middle piece of brownie! My whole family will only eat the middles. If only there was a way to make only middles! Lol.
Enjoy your sweet time with your family and have an amazing Christmas! ?

Reply

Hope you are feeling well! She is such a beautiful baby. If she becomes a master at busting out the swaddled blankets, give zip up sleep sacks a try! Both of my kids would not stay swaddled, but they loved the sleep sack because they felt warm and snug, but could move their arms. Plus the zip up feature made diaper changes easier!

Reply

Janae, how exciting! I am so happy for you guys. Your little family is even sweeter now :) I can’t wait to be pregnant and have a baby, so it’s been really fun to read through yours! Have a wonderful Monday!

Reply

YAY these posts are making me so so happy! She is just beautiful! Can’t wait to hear the whole story :)

Reply

I’m so impressed that you’re blogging! But happy that you are :)
My baby liked his hands by his face so we just left his arms out of the swaddle. Now he’s over being swaddled at one month old. It’s funny how they already have their own personalities and opinions so young!
And I’m totally a middle of the pan brownie person. The hard outside crust is depressing.

Reply

I’ll take the middle brownie, thanks.

Brooke is at a perfect age (I’m sure Knox is too but it might be different for boys haha) for a baby sister!

Good job at drinking all the water! I was never good at drinking water and it made me extra dehydrated when I was nursing because alll of my fluids went to the baby,

Reply

Congratulations! What a blessing!

Reply

Congratulations again!! She’s beautiful!

My running right now is whatever I feel like when I walk out the door. But I think I’ll head to the hills (trails) today for 4-5 miles. My husband ordered me the Run Angel last night for my birthday which is tomorrow. I’m excited to get it, especially for my trail runs up in the mountains!

I was raised in undercooked baked goods. The only way my dad will eat them! My mom worked at Dick’s Bakery my entire life as a cake decorator, mostly wedding cakes. But she came home with donuts and mint brownies daily.

Have a great day with your cute family!!

Reply

Congratulations again for Skye! I’m so happy for you guys.

Today the cold won the battle against me going our for a run. But it’s not a big deal because my training plan calls up for Mondays as a rest day.

This week I’m looking forward to finish my wedding planning, so excited <3

And yes, I love undercooked brownies, cookies, cakes…everything.

Enjoy your day and your baby Janae<3

Ahh, this post makes me so happy. Such a beautiful family! I’m so glad everything went so well and that you’re already back home! Your mom is so wonderful! I LOVE brownies; middle piece all the way! :) I hope you’re healing up well and thanks for checking in with us! Love seeing all these posts!

Reply

Oh she is so beautiful:). Enjoy your time together!

No run today but tonight going to a VIP showing of Love Actually with a girl friend so really looking forward to that.

I eat cookie dough raw sometimes (but it’s so good!) so I am all about the slightly under baked goods

Reply

You guys look so happy! I love the middle of brownies too!

Reply

Oh my!!! These pictures are PRECIOUS!! Sweet Skye is loved sooooo much! I know y’all are so happy she’s finally here.
I am so glad you had a good experience and everything is going so well. I can’t wait to see Knox with her.
Drink that water and get as much sleep as you can HA!
I’m looking forward to more pics and hearing about Skye’s first week!

Reply

Congratulations again to your wonderful family of 5 (6 including Barretta :) )! Skye is beautiful!! Keep getting as much rest as possible! I can’t wait to hear about and see more of Skye and Brooke and Knox with her. So very sweet!
Sending lots of love to all of you <3

Reply

Congrats!! Loved seeing the Instagram posts over the weekend!! You guys are such a beautiful family and can’t wait to see everyone grow! Sometimes I forget how long I’ve been reading before remembering that I read your blog a few times before you were pregnant and then consistently since you moved back to Utah and how much Brooke has grown since then! Seeing you run throughout your pregnancy gives me hope to do the same for me! Just 5 months to go for me!

Reply

I loved everything about this post. Congratulations Janae and Andrew-she looks absolutely lovely :)

Reply

Congrats! She is too precious.
I remember the water mugs I brought home with my kids, those things were a life saver.

Reply

So wonderful you all are doing so well! I anxious logged in this morning JUST to check on you! And can’t wait until we can talk running training in the future!

Reply

I’m sitting here chuckling at Andrew in shorts and the rest of you bundled up. This cold nature person just can’t understand! Haha …

No run for me today – my body is SO TIRED from this year of running, it’s aching today. Bleh. Oh well. We’ve got lots of Christmas happenings this week, so I am pumped for those.

Enjoy your day :) I am loving seeing your baby posts.

Reply

Congrats!! What an exciting time for you and your fam. I love undercooked cookies and brownies! My husband however likes them fully cooked, so i usually take mine out ahead of time if i can. Newborn snuggles are the absolute best!

Reply

Oh yes I love underbaked cookies and crescent rolls.

I wanted to mention my second breastfeeding experience was so very different from my first and much more positive. (We just stopped at
17 months where my first stopped latching by 4 months and I pumped for a few more.) Hopefully it goes well for you.

Enjoy all those snuggles because as you know they grow way too fast.

Reply

Brooke is going to be a great big sister! And I’m sure Knox will be a great big brother, too. It’s great that you get to have them both for Christmas this year.

I haven’t run in over a week. The Santa Ana winds here in So Cal have been awful, plus the multiple fires have made our air quality pretty bad. Another hour on the bike trainer in the garage and I worked up a great sweat!

I am ready for Friday to get here – Les has been traveling for business since last Monday. I am taking advantage of his time away – I did all my Christmas shopping last week. I’ll start my Christmas baking today with five kinds of candy and five kinds of under-baked cookies on my list.

Reply

Oh Janae! I am so so happy for you and your family. What a huge blessing. Your daughter is absolutely beautiful. Enjoy every second. I know that is hard when you are so sleep deprived, but it looks like you have a fabulous support system. Isn’t that wonderful?! And Andrew seems like such a hands on Dad, which is so lovely to see. Enjoy that brand new baby smell and all the family cuddles.
ps….this is totally unimportant in the grand scheme of things, but you look amazing. Own it sister!

Reply

She is beautiful! What a lovely Christmas present. This is my first Christmas with my twin boys, born over the summer, and I am in heaven :)

Reply

Congratulations!!

Reply

I’m all about the edges of brownies – the corners are the absolute best!

Reply

Congratulations. Lovely name for your new treasure. All the best to you and your growing family.

Reply

Congratulations! Baby Skye is so adorable and perfect.

ALSO – its the breastfeeding making you thirsty. Never start without a large glass of water by your side. You will regret it;)

Reply

She is so lovely! I’m so glad things are going well. I’m an edge piece kind of girl. Although I would never turn down a brownie from the middle of the pan.
This week I’m looking forward to working and going on the Nutcracker field trip with my youngest!

Reply

Skye is so so adorable!

I am training for my first half marathon and today was a track day: 16x400s, alternating between 10k pace and 5k pace. I thought my legs were going to fall off by the end! So glad that’s behind me and that it’s another deposit in my running bank account. :)

Reply

I’m just so excited for you and your family this Christmas! Skye is absolutely precious. Congratulations to you all!

Looks like my morning runs will be in 17 degree temps all week. Cold but it’s really my favorite.

Reply

Yay! I’m glad everything is going well for you guys and the picture of Brooke holding Skye is heart melting!!

No running for me this week. My ankle is still sore, but not swollen anymore!! So, I’m planning on at least one more week off from running, but tomorrow will be weight lifting (yay!!)

My birthday is Wednesday and I am looking forward to dinner at home and watching This is Us with the hubs!

Middle and undercooked! I just made some undercooked chocolate chip cookies and they are awesomesauce!

Reply

I am so happy for you and your sweet family! I thought about you Saturday morning on my run. Knowing you won’t be running for 6 weeks took me back to the time I had a stress fracture and couldn’t run for 8 weeks and 5 days (not that I counted or anything). I remember wanting so bad to run because I couldn’t. Sometimes that’s my motivation for running now. I need to be more thankful for the fact that I am able to run!
Hopefully today I can get a run in with my brother. I absolutely love running with him so we can talk about our days.
I absolutely love undercooked desserts. The dough/batter is the best part right? I prefer a middle piece of brownie but I’ll take whatever is available!

Reply

Congrats! She is beautiful. I just entered the newborn world too after being away from it for 5 years (my oldest daughter just turned 5 on Thursday). I totally forgot how to swaddle well so I just bought the swaddle me sacks. They’re great. Then my girlfriend sent me a video of how the nurse showed her how to swaddle. It’s genius. YouTube The Parent Wrap method of swaddling. So dang easy and so hard for them to escape from. Way easier than the “traditional” way. My mind was blown.

Reply

Congratulations on the new baby. She is beautiful and you look so happy :)
I have to share this with you! Yesterday when I was running on my treadmill, I felt a few little rocks in my left shoe. So I hopped off to take my shoe off and get rid of them. I kind of lost my balance and fell back on the treadmill (it was still going and to make it worse, I had shorts on) I quickly tried to move forward only to fall back on the treadmill and them again for a third time! There is SKIN on my treadmill! And yes, it hurt and still does! But….I continued on and got my run done – I’m hard core like that! As soon as it happened, I just knew I had to share my story with you!!!!

Reply

She is so perfect, Janae! You are giving me baby fever BAD! Run today = 60 min, easy paced run. Benaiah watched while he ate his breakfast. I love having him by my side, even if it has to be indoors!
Also, brownies – edge piece all all the way!

Reply

Her little face is so perfect, Janae. Enjoy ALL the snuggles :)

Reply

Omg congrats on the lil baby! HOW EXCITING!

I’m totally an edge piece of the brownie type girl. Have you seen those pans that make every piece an end piece? Santa is going to have to bring me one of those!

Reply

Brooke’s facial expressions watching Skye are so incredibly beautiful!

I remember how thirsty I was those first days after giving birth and breast feeding…I would literally hang my head under the kitchen tap and gulp water, it was insane!

Reply

I’m so excited and happy for you! This must be such a special time at your house. Also, love seeing that you’re using an Erin Condren!

Reply

Congratulations!! Google the “double swaddle.” Used it for both my kids – works like a charm and they can’t break out of it. :)

Reply

She is so beautiful, Janae! I’m sure you already know about the Halo sleep sacks, but if you don’t have any, have someone pick a couple up for you. I am essentially a professional baby swaddler, and my little guy (and my bigger patients) still get out of them! Halos are so easy and quick, and I feel like they’re a bit safer because they don’t loosen up and risk covering baby’s face at night.
We’re over 5 weeks in and the thirst (and hunger!) haven’t let up :)
I have my 6 weeks checkup Friday, so we’ll see if I am running this weekend!

Reply

All I could think of when I saw sky was how truly beautiful she is. I am so happy for you. I am currently at my daughters house with my five-month-old grandson and loving it.
By the way, when you said under cooked brownies I started to drool. Ha ha. When I Bake something I’m lucky if there is enough batter left to put in the oven.

Reply

Enjoy all that yummy food everyone is going to spoil you with!!!!!
Undercooked brownies and cookies for sure! And when they are under-cooked put a little ice cream with it and it tastes even better!!!!! I love the middle, hubs loves the ends!!!
Running indoors since the temps are in the teens here in NC:-) Never knew the south would get so cold!!

XOXO and keep snuggling away!

Reply

Today is a rest day for me.
Middle piece of the brownie for sure.

Reply

Congrats on the healthy baby! I missed your other posts so I am late with my well wishes! My newborn (two months tomorrow, what???) keeps us on our toes and I forgot how they hate sleeping at night! So THAT is what I’m looking forward to this week.
Corner piece of brownie for me, but I’d rather have a cookie over a brownie any day.

Reply

I’m so excited for you and your family!!! I’m sure it will be a bit of a learning curve for everyone to get used to baby Skye, but it’s so great to see how the kids adore her already. I second the person (or people) who said they are getting baby fever! ;) I love seeing baby photos – I do not mind when my FB friends post them!

I like all brownie positions, but it may be the edge that is my favorite. I get a little soft & gooey and a little hard and crunchy – a good mix!

Reply

Congratulations to your little family!!! Skye is just beautiful and you look absolutely wonderful, Janae!! Enjoy your baby snuggles!

Reply

Really hope you’re feeling well!! You look great! I just cannot stop looking at the pix of her…her little nose is precious. God bless you all during this special season!

Reply

Janae-
BUY A VELCRO SWADDLE BLANKET! For the first four weeks of my baby’s life she only slept 1-2 hour stretches bc she always got out of it bc I wasn’t that great at it. I went and bought a velcro swaddle blanket and she started sleeping 4-5 hour stretches that very night! I’m telling you it saved my life! I hope you read this!

Reply

Congratulations! Funny to here you say food did not taste that good during pregnancy. Same for me, but everyone I talk to says everything tasted better during pregnancy. Good luck with breastfeeding, remember the first month is the hardest but gets easier.

Reply

I just want to remind you to nurse her as MUCH AND AS OFTEN AS YOU POSSIBLY CAN. You will be so, so glad you did months from now when your supply will remain strong. I didn’t really understand this with my first and struggled BF him. With my second I nursed her constantly in the first few weeks and months–completely ignoring the idea of “every 2-3 hours” and nursing her instead whenever she or I felt like it. It becomes an amazing break in your day. I watched all the seasons of several shows (house of cards nurse Jackie) on my iPod while she nursed and my son got used to entertaining himself during all of this time. Not easy transition for him but totally manageable at his age (same as Brooke). So now my second baby is 20 mos and still going strong with BF. I can’t stress enough importance of FREQUENT on demand or just whenever feeds. Enjoy this time to eat and sleep and pamper yourself so she gets some good fuel. It can be wonderful.

Reply

You can also buy zip up swaddles but she may be too small at this point

Reply

What an amazing gift! Congrats! My little man is now 6 weeks old and I feel like time is flying by too quickly. Even though it’s great to be running again! Enjoy these early days and all the snuggles! Look forward to following your postpartum journey in the coming weeks.

That little girl has quite a life ahead of her—so much love in your family!!!!!!! <3

What is your run today? I’ll just be living through you for the next little while so give me the details!

i didn’t run yesterday 12/11 b/c i still have pain in my big toe joint (right)…found out it is hallux limitus – am currently getting treatment for it so hopefully pain goes away. yesterday i instead worked out the arms and core! hopefully today 12/12 i will do a little run.

What are you looking forward to this week? hubs and my sister’s boyfriend’s birthday dinner tonight!

Middle or edge piece for brownies? Anyone else love undercooked baked goods?

edge piece! i mostly like the crispy parts so i don’t mind undercooked baked goods (i’m not going to say no, let’s say that) but prefer well done baked goods.

Reply

Congratulations on the birth of Skye! What a beautiful addition to your family.
Brownies, middle all the way!
Also, what type of planner do you use? They stopped making the one I’ve used the past three years and I’m looking for a weekly planner with room for lists and things to do. Yours looks like it would fit the bill!

Reply

First and foremost, congratulations again on your beautiful baby girl! Your whole family is lovely!

I spotted an Erin Condren planner in there – love that! Me too! :D

Have a great day, HRG!
