Unpopular Opinions Round 2 (these are hilarious) + things I need to tell you + learn from the pros.

I just have a few… ehhh like 15… things to tell you about before we get to some unpopular opinions!

I really did my best leap for this photo even though it might not look like it.

Daylight savings does have a few pros:  I feel more normal climbing into bed in the 7 pm hour and we no longer rush around the house getting Brooke ready for school.  She now wakes up with PLENTY of time to get everything done before we have to leave which makes mornings a lot less stressful!

DSC09816

Andrew and I went for a run together yesterday morning and Beretta joined us too.  4 miles @ 9:28 average pace.  Kind of my happy place right now!  With things getting closer to our due date, I’ll probably just run outside when I have Andrew with me or just do a loop right around my house so I am never far away by myself.

PS you know it is a cold morning when even Andrew is wearing a sweatshirt.

IMG 0891

Right after the run = a warm shower and hot hot hot chocolate.  After I got home there were snowflakes falling on the ground (they didn’t stick but they were out there)!

IMG 0906

Brooke wanted to play nail salon so we got to work doing that.

IMG 0909

More crepes went down yesterday… tried this recipe out and it was delicious!

IMG 0911

Yesterday we stopped at my parents house to catch up with them and for Brooke to snuggle with my mom.

IMG 0915

Brooke found my handprint from 1995 l

IMG 0918

We also stopped by my sister’s house to drop some things off and say hello to her boys for a second.

IMG 0919

When you can’t quite give up Halloween (her pj bottoms) for the year but you are thrilled that Christmas is coming up next (her pj top).

IMG 0870

Last thing about the time change—>  Is anyone else getting in pjs and eating dinner as early as possible (4:50 pm) because Daylight Savings has their body beyond confused about what is going on?  We are eating dinner really early this week which is great because then we can eat leftovers just a few hours later for second dinner.

Pasta is everything to me during this trimester so we made this recipe of carbonara!

IMG 0867

This is Brooke’s favorite reading position, her little leg up and crossed:)

IMG 0873

Brooke is really into making stories together right now.  She tells me what to write and then she does the illustrations.  Her stories are quite entertaining.

IMG 0879

Nothing like ending the night with a good face mask… my skin feels like heaven after this one in this post.

IMG 0884

These two end the night with some deep conversations about life.

IMG 0885

*I keep thinking about Shalane Flanagan and how amazing her first place finish was in NYC!  I’ve been thinking back to an article I read about her this last summer where she talks a lot about how she had to miss Boston due to injury.  I mean, it is hard for us to miss races due to injury etc but when the elites have to miss a race… this is their job, their world.  It’s amazing to see how she overcame such a huge setback and how things worked out even better for her in the end.  She is a great example to all of us with our setbacks in our running.  Stay strong, keep believing and it will all work out in the end!  I have another post here about elites and their setbacks and how they overcame them!

Shalane says (this was in the summer):

——————————————————————————————————-

I had such a blast reading through your unpopular opinions the first time we did that HERE (I know, many of you still haven’t gotten over my Harry Potter, Star Wars or Chipotle opinions but let’s continue to work towards moving forward together) and I wanted to hear some more of yours!  Andrew and I have thought of a few more so we will start off!

Our unpopular opinions!

*Me:  I hate hummus.  I think I might have enjoyed it at one point (I’m sure I did) in my life… but I just can’t even stand it anymore and that isn’t just a pregnancy thing.   I’m sure I could handle a thin layer of it on a sandwich or something and enjoy it but dipping food into hummus and eating a big bite of it, nope.  Not for me.

*Me:  I also do not like Indian food or Thai food.  I used to love it but, it is a big NO WAY for me.  I think getting Giardia in Thailand and having Indian food and Thai food right before the parasite hit strong probably caused this for me.  This is a very unpopular opinion anytime we are going out to dinner with people and everyone seems to want to go to either of these choices.  Luckily, Andrew agrees with me on this one.

*Me:  (Mine are all about food this time)… I don’t get the deliciousness of pb and honey mixed together… the kids love pb and honey sandwiches but I just don’t think the two flavors belong together.  PB & Jam for life in my opinion.

*Me:  Andrew thinks it is an unpopular opinion that Brooke and I use ketchup with our chicken nuggets… we also sometimes put ketchup on our mac and cheese which I understand is just wrong but it tastes good to me.

*Me:  I’m not a huge Thanksgiving person (which is hard for Andrew because it might be his favorite day of the entire year and I’m trying hard to be more excited for him ha).  Yes, I enjoy spending time with my family and showing gratitude but I just have had a lot of REALLY BAD Thanksgiving Days over the years and turkey is just kind of blah to me.   So long story short, I’m not a Thanksgiving Scrooge but I have been in the past and I’m starting to like it more now.

*Andrew and Me:  We don’t love Stranger Things 2!  I was SO excited for this season, so excited.  We loved the first season and while I started off strong with Stranger Things this season and had high hopes and optimism towards loving it, I didn’t.  Neither did Andrew.  Pretty sure we are offending many people with this one.  I’m sorry.

*Andrew:  (and this one is painful for me to write at this stage in my life)… he doesn’t really like pancakes.  I mean he will eat them if that is the last thing on the planet but he doesn’t enjoy them.  He also thinks breakfast is overrated which I am also highly offended by.

*Andrew:  He loves all animals but he is very specific about what animals he will own…. he doesn’t want to ever have a little dog.  This is actually really hard for me and the kids (my best friend growing up was a 4 lb poodle) and the kids want a little dog so bad.

*Andrew:  He doesn’t like warm/hot showers.   I take the hottest showers possible (except when pregnant… I take warm showers) and he loves cold showers.

*Andrew:  Can’t STAND eating chicken off of the bone.  He can’t do it.  He also doesn’t really like chicken but eats it often because I want it in a lot of our meals;)

My sister’s unpopular opinions:

Sissy:  She hates doing friends birthday parties for her children (she enjoys taking her children to other people’s birthday parties;).  Everything from invitations (so she does a group text to invite the people in her neighborhood), to planning to decorating… she just does not like it.

Sissy:  She hates Pinterest because it makes her feel guilty but she does love Pinterest fails.

Sissy:  She isn’t on Instagram nor will she ever be.  It doesn’t even exist in her world.

I had to ask my mom too!!!

HRG Mom:  She loves black licorice (which means she loves Good & Plenty)!

HRG Mom:  She loves wearing socks with sandals (I can attest, she really does love to do this)!

HRG Mom:  She LOVES fruitcake!

I wanted to ask Megan D a few of hers too because she is hilarious:

*Megan D:  She doesn’t like Gilmore Girls.

*Megan D:  She thinks oatmeal raisin cookies are delicious

*Megan D:  She has no desire to watch a Nicholas Sparks movie or any chick flick movies at all

*Megan D:  She would eat rice over pasta any day.

Our kids:

*When we go to Cafe Rio and they get quesadillas, they also get an horchata to drink on the side.  They then dip the quesadillas into the horchata and eat them.  It is so wrong but they love it.

——————————————————————————————————-

I would LOVE to hear your unpopular opinions about things (these are my favorite to read)!  Also, any on our list that you strongly disagree or agree with!?!

Ever missed a race because of injury?  Which race and what was your injury?

How long is your getting ready for bed routine… sometimes mine is 5 minutes and sometimes it is 20 minutes:)

What is your run today?!

Stranger Thing 2 is soooo much better than the first season! The first 2-3 episodes are a little slow but it gets so good! I agree with Andrew, I can’t eat chicken off the bone and I dislike anything buffalo. Oh and this might upset you but I don’t like Café Rio. The pictures you post always look so good but I have yet to have anything I love there. Team Chipotle for life. Hope we can still be friends! Have a great day :)

Reply

Brooke,
We can still be friends after what you said about Cafe Rio but I just need a minute to process everything;) I hope you get some amazing Chipotle soon and that your day is wonderful!

Reply

Love the unpopular opinions! We’re not into Stranger Things 2 either…glad I’m not the only one!
It’s super smart to stay close to your house…you’re getting soooo close to your due date!
I actually hate ketchup on anything. I’m way more of a ranch person!
My getting ready for bed routine takes all of 5 minutes…I was asleep on the couch last night at 6:52 pm – I blame Daylight Savings!

Reply

I could (and almost do) eat ketchup on pretty much everything, so I fully support your ketchup on chicken nuggets and mac and cheese. I hate chocolate, which I know is not a popular opinion to most people, and I also can’t stand sushi or anything that comes from the sea.

I ran an easy 5-something miles today, and I’m glad it was an easy day. I went to a Bill Nye the Science Guy event last night in LA and got back super late, so I’m exhausted. It doesn’t ever take me long to get ready for bed, and thankfully I usually fall asleep as soon as my head hits the pillow—and that was certainly true last night! Hopefully I can make it through the day without too much fatigue, but less than 4 hours of sleep doesn’t feel so great. :/

100% on Andrew’s side when it comes to eating chicken off the bone … Absolutely not.
Also have to agree with him when it comes to little dogs. My boyfriend has a 16 pound dog and I have a German Shepard/Rott mix and it is ALWAYS a battle of what kind of dog we’d get if we ever got one together. He grew up with small dogs and I was the complete opposite (I mean … My brother has a Great Dane now) … It’s a tough disagreement!!

My biggest unpopular opinions:
1. I don’t like sushi! Doesn’t do anything for me!
2. I hate coconut water (or anything coconut flavored)
3. I love dogs but reallllllly don’t love them on furniture. This is also a point of contention between my boyfriend and I. My dog never jumps on furniture and prefers sleeping in her crate … And his dog jumps on everything. All the time. Help.

Reply

Oh Arthi, you are not alone… I CANNOT do dogs on furniture either. It drives me nuts. I let Beretta on the kid’s beds just because it makes them so happy but that is it:) Send your sushi my way and I totally agree on the coconut water! LOVED reading these… thanks for sharing Arthi!

Reply

I am not into Diet Coke or coke for that matter.

No run today. Just a walk. Still trying to keep baby warm with colder temps.

Reply

I can’t remember what my unpopular opinions were the last time… but let me throw this one out there: I can’t stand Taylor Swift. She used to at least have the redeemable quality that she was a talented songwriter, but her recent songs don’t even show that. I get a lot of secondhand embarrassment from her.
Getting ready for bed… hmm good question, I usually shower at night so I do that typically after my run or workout… but then I later do my usual bedtime routine while I’m already in PJs… maybe 15 min not counting the aforementioned shower?
I’m hoping to get a 4-5 mile run in today… we’ll see what the cold and wind thinks of that plan, though!

Reply

Oh man, Thai food is so delicious!!! We have a Thai food place across the street from the neighborhood we live in and I cannot count how many times we have eaten there! So good!
PB & honey is not my favorite. I will eat if that is all there is but would rather not!
I agree with you on ketchup on chicken nuggets!
My kids and I love pancakes! My husband agrees with Andrew, he would not chose them any day of the week, haha!
For me, I strongly dislike celery and mushrooms. I just can’t! Yuck!
My bedtime routine is 10 minutes top. I want as much sleep as I can possibly get!

Reply

I really loved reading everyone’s unpopular opinions. A few of mine:
*I’m not very into music–I almost never listen to it when I’m by myself
*I think pesto is overrated
*I have no interest in listening to Serial, the PBS podcast
*I don’t care for Star Wars movies

I’ve so loved watching and reading about Shalane’s win, too! Injury-wise, I had to sit out running Boston in 2015 because of a hip injury. My husband and I were there, watching the race and cheering, and that was awesome!

Reply

*NPR podcast. :) *

Reply

Oh yours are great Tam! Thank you for sharing (and I 100% agree with you about Star Wars)! I love that you still went to cheer on the Boston runners the year you missed out because of your hip. Have you been able to go to Boston since then!? Thanks Tam!

Reply

Hi Janae! I’m registered for Boston 2018–couldn’t be more excited!

Reply

That makes me so HAPPY!!!

Reply

Ugh! My husband is exactly the same way as Andrew about pancakes and breakfast in general and it breaks my little breakfast loving heart. However, I 100% agree about never wanting to own a small dog – they’re cute, but not for me!

Reply

The second dinner bit reminds me of the Hobbit! Hot chocolate is great post-run fuel right… I heard chocolate milk has the ideal ratio of protein to carbs, so I think you’ve got it down. :) Love the 1995 handprint!

Reply

I think Andrew and my husband would be besties! I never met anyone that disliked pancakes before meeting my husband, and I grew up having Pomeranians and really want another and he has vetoed me! LOL Although, I am totally with Andrew and eating chicken off the bone (or anything off the bone for that matter!) Gross! My unpopular opinion…Reality TV, I hate it – big brother, survivor, the kardashians, all the housewives shows… Never understood it and it’s soo fake!
I’m starting to try to work on improving my speed, so today I’m going to try intervals on the treadmill…I hate the treadmill, so will see how this goes :)

Reply

AHHH really!?! I haven’t heard the reality tv one yet! There are a few that I love but I agree, the rest are so fake. Our husbands would get along grate! I keep getting the poodle veto! I hope your interval workout on the treadmill was amazing!! Thanks Krista!

Reply

I totally agree with Andrew on the chicken on the bone thing! I hate eating ANYTHING off the bone. Give me boneless or nothing!

But I do put ketchup on chicken nuggets! And on hot dogs. This is an unpopular opinion where I’m from (in the radius of Chicago). Not that I eat a whole lot of hot dogs, but when I do it’s ketchup and mustard (and maybe some grilled onions), but you can keep your pickle/relish/tomato Chicago dog nonsense. (I also dip my grilled cheese and cheese quesadillas in ketchup, which my boyfriend thinks is repulsive).

Biggest unpopular opinions:
1. I don’t like salad dressing — or really salad, but I will eat a plain salad over a dressed salad. Maybe put some olive oil on it. I just don’t like a whole lot of weird-tasting sogginess on my vegetables, plus I think it can defeat the purpose of salad and make it just as unhealthy as anything else
2. I don’t really like movies. I’d much rather watch TV shows. Maybe it’s an attention span thing?
3. I don’t believe in celebrating/decorating for Christmas until AFTER Thanksgiving. I don’t even particularly like Thanksgiving (like you!), but I think it at least deserves its day before an entire month of Christmas comes in.

Have a great Wednesday, Janae!

Reply

I didn’t even like Stranger Things 1…so I haven’t watched the second.
I also like ketchup on my Mac and cheese. Also on just buttered pasta.
I’m with Meghan, I like oatmeal raisin cookies. I even like just raisins.
I don’t like sushi (seafood in general is a no go for me)
I don’t get America’s obsession with bacon. I’ll eat a couple pieces if it’s a breakfast thing but I never understood the craze to put it in like all the foods and desserts. Gross, people.
Don’t tell Knox, but I don’t really like Michael Jackson…unless we’re talking Jackson 5. I love them.
My night routine takes probably 10-15 minutes. It used to be shorter but I’m starting to add better habits in, so it takes longer.

Reply

I want to love Indian food so bad but I can’t stand a majority of the spices used to cook Indian food.

– I HATE touching paper after I wash my hands. I have to wait a little bit or else it is like nails on a chalkboard cringe worthy.
– I don’t think Ryan Gosling is attractive.
– I don’t like crafting. I would rather pay twice as much and just buy the dang thing!

My shower routine is long. I take a scalding hot shower, wash my face three times, use oil scrubs, just stand there and let me skin melt off. LOL I love my post shower routine. I love skincare so I do lots of facial stuff and then douse myself in smelly good lotion and body spray (I may own half of the Bath and Body Works store). I sleep so good when I can smell my lotion! It is like aromatherapy.

Reply

I have a lot of food ones! I don’t like burgers or hot dogs (which makes summer BBQs difficult lol). Also, ketchup kind of creeps me out. Like I will eat it on fries but that’s pretty much it. And the thought of ketchup on eggs makes me sick. Also, I never understood why Nutella is so popular. And I hate to say it, but I kind of agree with Andrew on pancakes. Like I will eat one if it’s there, but would never order them as my full meal. However, I’m all about eggs, breakfast potatoes, and other savory breakfast foods.

I’m feeling the same way with daylight savings! But bonus is that I’ve been falling right to sleep and the mornings are a little easier. And Sunday felt so nice and long with the extra hour! Hope you’re having a great day!

Reply

I hate all warm/hot drinks….coffee, hot chocolate, tea. Yuck.

Reply

I will eat double the hot chocolate to make up for you not liking it ha! I kid! Thanks for sharing Amanda and I hope you have a great day!

Reply

I’m not a huge thanksgiving person either. I mean I like the day off, but to me it was just a dinner that my family cooked and we would gather with family. The thing is, I don’t like many thanksgiving foods. Not really a pie person (though I will eat pumpkin pie and sometimes apple). I don’t like cooked fruit. I also don’t like stuffing, mashed potatoes (my mom was the only person in my house who liked mashed potatoes so she got them twice a year, thanksgiving and Christmas), cranberry sauce. So yeah I basically would eat turkey and canned corn growing up at thanksgiving. We would have leftovers for maybe a day or two, but we didn’t have a lot leftover. In recent years, we have been trying to change things up and make more veggie sides like roasted brussel sprouts. This year I am in charge of a dessert so I’mprobably going to make some cookies because cookies are my preferred dessert choice.

Reply

I loved reading the unpopular opinions! Here are some of mine:
1) I don’t eat seafood. Doesn’t matter what kind or how it is prepared, I won’t eat it.
2) I prefer lakes over oceans. It’s probably because I grew up in the Midwest so everyone always goes to lakes in the summer.
3) Bananas are not good. The texture of them grosses me out. I love their flavor but I can’t eat them.
4) Tabasco and Siracha are not good hot sauces. Everyone loves them but no thank you. I’ll stick with my Frank’s instead :)

My night routine totally depends on the night! If I run that afternoon then my makeup is off so I can be ready in about 7 minutes. If I have to take my makeup off it’ll take my closer to 15 minutes to be in bed.

Reply

But have you tried dessert hummus? (yes dark chocolate hummus!) tried it with strawberries and apples, so good!

-I don’t like bacon. (I know..)
-Have never watched/liked harry potter or lord of the rings or starwars etc.
-I don’t like grapefruit. or olives.
-I don’t really care for Halloween (other than the candy/pumpkin stuff)..i could fast forward right to Thanksgiving and Christmas ! ;)

Reply

I haven’t tried dessert hummus… it makes me nervous but I will since you said it is good:) You aren’t missing anything with harry potter/lord of the rings/star wars ha! I hope you are having a beautiful day Emily!

Reply

Actually, we are back to standard time. Daylight savings is March through November…

Like Andrew, I am not a huge pancake fan. My kids love them but I would take a waffle any day. And like you, my daughter does not like Thanksgiving. Her b-day is November 27 so sometimes her birthday is on Thanksgiving. Last time that happened, we had pasta :-( I think it is a texture thing – stuffing, sweet potatoes, mashed potatoes, pumpkin pie are all mushy foods and she doesn’t like any of them.

My GSP and I were up at dark o’clock this morning for our first run below 30 degrees this season. It was 22 and COLD! So cold that when we got home, I found her shivering in bed. Guess I’ll have to find her sweater.

Reply

Totally agree with Andrew on the pancake thing. Blah. And with eating chicken on the bone. Grossssss. I hate it!
I also hate pumpkin flavored anything. Which makes this time of the year really hard because pumpkin is everywhere!
I love ketchup on some things but strongly dislike dipping fries in it. If I don’t have fry sauce to dip them into I will just eat them plain.
My husband and I do not like cake. Like at all. Instead of a wedding cake we had brownies.
I can’t seem to even get into the first season of Stranger Things. Who knows if I’ll even make it to the second season.
I love puzzles. Ha!

Reply

PUMPKIN!?!? Okay, just send over any pumpkin treats that you get to me! Interesting about the ketchup on fries. Oh, we LOVE fry sauce too… the best! Brownies instead of wedding cake… I love it! I hope you are having a great day Ashley and I loved reading your comment!

I don’t like Game of Thrones. Or The Walking Dead. I don’t get the obsessions. My husband is the same way, fortunately!

I don’t like nuts in anything, like cookies or bread. I will eat them separately, but I am not a fan of banana nut bread, for example.

Reply

I DO NOT get the Walking Dead either!!! I’ve never tried to watch Game of Thrones (and don’t have any desire too)! I am going to join you in your nuts in food opinion too! Have an amazing day Meghan!

Reply

I’m with Andrew — breakfast is so overrated. If it’s 11:00am and someone wants to go out to breakfast, I’m like, no, it’s time for lunch there’ll be no more breakfast today :)

Reply

Like your mom, I also enjoy fruitcake (toast up a slice in the toaster oven and top with some cream cheese – DELISH!!). And like you, I don’t like Indian food. Like, I can’t even stand the smell of it.

Growing up, we used to dip our chicken nuggets in maple syrup. It is delicious, but apparently not very common! When I asked for maple syrup one time at a diner when I was having chicken tenders, my husband thought I was INSANE.

Reply

My mom also loves black licorice, Good n Plenty and black jelly beans. :) I’m sorry, Megan D., we cannot be friends.

I despise ketchup and if you put it on eggs you have to build a barricade between us so I cannot see your plate, especially if your yolk is runny. I will gag and ruin your breakfast otherwise. (runny yolk is also gross to me)

I don’t like reality tv. I don’t watch American Idol, Big Brother, the Amazing Race, the Bachelor, or any of those shows. It makes me anxious and the rigged behavior drives me nuts.

I don’t like chicken on the bone either; actually I don’t like meat on the bone in general.

I drink seltzer and really don’t like soda. I will have ginger ale if I’m really sick.

Reply

I feel safer because I’m not the first to say it, but I don’t like Cafe Rio. And they keep popping up everywhere in SoCal!
Ketchup on chicken nuggets isn’t weird at all to me, even though I do prefer BBQ sauce. I put Ketchup on my scrambled eggs, which has gotten me looks from friends, family, and strangers for years.
I don’t like Halloween. Sometimes I forget when it is Halloween and get confused on why everyone is outside??
I don’t understand everyone’s obsession with Taylor Swift.
I wasn’t aware that it was physically possible to not like Gilmore Girls!

Reply

I am with Andrew. Breakfast is overrated. I do not enjoy going out for breakfast. I would go out for breakfast foods at dinner though.
I am with you on Thanksgiving foods. I love the people I see on Thanksgiving because I do not see a lot of them any other time, but the actual meal……..I could come up with 20 that I would find way more delicious.
For me, I do not like Chipotle or Qdoba. I have tried………man have I tried……..but nope.

Reply

Haha, I love these!

1) I hate hot yoga. I keep going back thinking that I am being crazy but between the smell, the overwhelming heat and the fact that I feel like I didn’t do actual get a work out in but just gained a headache it isn’t for me. My friends think I am crazy.
2) I love pineapple on pizza. I am going to get hate mail for this ;)
3) I never listen to music in the car. My husband thinks I am an old lady because I love listening to talk radio (CBC radio one in Canada!) but I am always up to date on the news and issues. I do a ton of driving and it is always a podcast or talk radio playing.

Reply

For Thanksgiving, I’m not into the turkey but I’m all about the sides! :) Oh! About the little dog problem. My husband was the same way! He loves animals and grew up with so many pets. Animals know because they always approach him. He was really against small dogs but I am allergic to cats and at one time was allergic to dogs, too. When I got retested, I wasn’t allergic to dogs anymore which is weird because I still have some problems around dogs that shed. So sorry..I’m so long-winded. Because of that, he got us a small non-shedding dog as he always wanted our kids to grow up with pets like he did. We got a Shih Tzu who just turned 11 and he has told me repeatedly that he couldn’t go back to a bigger dog now because small ones are so much less maintenance (what with work and kids, etc). :) The cold shower thing is so weird. I couldn’t do it…that would be torture for me. Haha, about Sissy. I feel the exact same about b-day parties but maybe it’s because I’m such a huge introvert. We’re about to have one for my twins and I’m nervous. :) I also HATE Pinterest and am not on Facebook or Twitter. I don’t like them. Have a great day, Janae! I loved this list!

Reply

I love these posts!
I detest olives and sushi.
I’m gen x but I’ve never liked the Red Hot Chili Peppers.
I also never really liked Friends.
This is so freeing!
Oh, and I like black licorice.

Reply

I love jam on my grilled cheese :) I know you have my back on that one because everybody outside my immediate fam thinks i’m a nut.

I will put ranch on just about anthing.

Cheesey potatoes + ketchup = YUM. You would love this since you like mac and cheese and ketchup…try it :)

Have a great day, Jenae!

Reply

I will totally agree with you on the perfection of jam on grilled cheese. Andrew agrees with your ranch need:) Oh I need to try the cheesy potatoes and ketchup, sounds delicious! Thanks Ashley, YOU TOO!

I loved your horchata comment. My three, nearly the same age as yours, love to dip EVERYTHING in their milk at dinner. So gross, but they absolutely love it! Blessings!

HAHAH REALLY!?!? Okay, our kids aren’t alone! Thanks for sharing Gina and have an amazing day!

I want to respond to everyone’s comments and their unpopular opinions. Am I crossing a line? When is too much? Can I just pretend that this is my blog?

My kids put ketchup on everything. I don’t understand.

Ross will never own a small dog either. And I kind of agree with them on that.

We haven’t made it past episode 3 of Stranger Things season 2. Partly because we have been doing house stuff every night and partly because it hasn’t been so good. Did you guys finish the season and still not like it?

Black licorice is so good. I remember taking black licorice ice cream as my birthday treat in Kindergarten. I bet the 6 yr olds in my class were like yay! Ice cream. Wait. What flavor?

Reply

i love reading all the comments!
1. i love candy corn and peeps, oh and werthers originals!
2. i dont love asian food. the occasional ramen or sushi is fine, but i just dont love the flavors.
3. i want my food and dessert to be mashed up together. think buddha bowls all mixed up together. and for dessert, i want ice cream and baked goods mashed up together.
4. i cant get into game of thrones…

Reply

I don’t like Café Rio. And Qdoba is better than Chipotle.
My family loves milk in their cup of ice cream – I hate it.
I drink cups of hot water all day long in the winter – everyone thinks I’m crazy.
PB and honey is only good on toast. Preferably with a side of hot chocolate. But never in a sandwich…ick.
I don’t need “time off” from my kids or “adult conversation”.
I love salad. Not as diet food or healthy food but just because it tastes great.
No Christmas music or decorating until at least December 1st. (And stores that have Halloween and Christmas items out at the same time should be shut down!)
No perfumes or scented lotions (this is because I am allergic but boy, it is massively unpopular – many people are flat out offended)!
My favorite radio station is the one with classical music, followed by NPR (especially the awesome weekend shows).
I’m for Daylight Savings Time all the time – never switching back and forth with Standard Time would make my life.
I don’t like chocolate bread type things (true cake only) and don’t like chocolate in my pumpkin/banana/zucchini bread/muffins/cookies.
We pretty much love all animals, too – but will never own a little dog. Large, yes. Medium, maybe. Small, no.
Your sister and I might get along really well: I hate kid parties so much that we don’t do them (alternative activity options are given), Pinterest is overwhelming in volume and underwhelming in do-ability, and what on earth is Instagram?
I love black licorice in general (but agree that Good and Plenty is pretty gross).
And Megan D: I don’t get the Gilmore Girls thing and can’t watch it, and oatmeal raisin cookies (with *soft* raisins) are awesome.

Reply

I can agree with you on pretty much ALL the food ones. My husband can agree with Andrew on the breakfast thing and the cold shower thing. Both things I don’t understand.

I feel the same way about Valentine’s Day as you do about thanksgiving, but I am trying to like it more now that I’m married and have kids to like valentines

1.) I 100% couldn’t get into Stranger Things.
2.) I might have said last time, but I don’t love Nutella. In Europe, it’s a little less sweet and more nutty and I like it more, but it’s not my fave.
3.) I’m pretty much ambivalent toward sushi. Everyone says you either love it or hate it, and I just would prefer cooked fish but will also eat it raw. Whatever.
4.) I love candy corn and oatmeal raisin cookies (though I prefer chocolate because … chocolate).
5.) I don’t love honey, period. If you mix it with mustard or something, sure, but I don’t get people who just eat honey on toast.
6.) I would rather order pizza on Thanksgiving than do Thanksgiving dinner. I love to cook, but Thanksgiving food does nothing for me. I’d rather have chicken or beef or ham than turkey, simple roasted sweet potatoes and green beans than casserole, and cookies or brownies than pie.

Unpop opinion from husband M: peanut butter on meat (ham, turkey, whatever) sandwiches.

ready for bed takes TOO long. I should get my lashes done because taking off mascara is the WORST! But it’s about 10 minutes: wash face, jammies, squats and planking then bed.

My run today is 3 miles. yesterday I came home and M asked how far I ran and I said “just 2.5” and he said “JUST?! That’s pretty far. You used to work really hard just to get to 2 and now 2.5 is a just! you’re so impressive”. aww, swoon.

I know a lot of people that don’t like pancakes or any “carb type,” breakfast food (French toast, waffles, etc.). But that’s ALL I’ll eat if I go out to breakfast.
Speaking of breakfast, going out for breakfast is my favorite thing and that’s how my husband and I celebrate things. No anniversary dinner for us–anniversary breakfast!
I also know a few people that won’t eat chicken off the bone but I LOVE chomping into a drumstick! It’s my favorite cut of the chicken!
I also hate hummus.
I have tried SO hard to like tea (different types, different amounts of milk, sweetener, etc) but it just tastes like dirty water to me. I wish I liked it because I know it’s got great health benefits.
I also dislike Gilmore Girls! Lorelai is supposed to be quirky and charming and I just find her to be SO ANNOYING.
My favorite sandwich is peanut butter with a sprinkle of brown sugar. I have never had a peanut butter and jelly (or honey) sandwich in my life.
I have also never had salsa in my life. I hate tomatoes (I hate a lot of vegetables) and just the scent of salsa grosses me out. I’ll eat a crap ton of plain tortilla chips though!
I also prefer big dogs because I like to walk/run/hike and roughhouse with them. You can’t really do that with little dogs. But I LOVE all dogs equally! :)

Reply

OH I love that you and your husband do an anniversary breakfast… I want to copy you:) I need to try this pb and brown sugar combo, sounds delicious. Oh and Andrew would have such a hard time with the fact you’ve never had salsa haha! Enjoy your day Kris and I loved reading yours!

I’ve been reading and admiring your Cafe Rio pictures for years now!! I’ve never been to Utah, but I’m actually visiting Moab this Friday-Monday , from Charlotte, NC. I’ve already searched and don’t see one close :( BUT we are flying in to Grand Junction, Colorado. Maybe, just maybe I can get there! I’m sure we’ll be starving after a day full of traveling with 2 kids and a teenager!

Reply

AHHHH!!!! You are coming to Utah! Moab is incredible! You are going to have the best time and I wish they had a Cafe Rio there! I hope so bad you can get to Cafe Rio while in Colorado… keep me updated!

I can’t eat ANY meat off the bone. I don’t know why but it weirds me out. I also love regular food for breakfast instead of BF foods. I am fine with pancakes, french toast etc but if they have a burger or mac and cheese on a brunch menu, I always get the lunch food! And lastly, I think Thanksgiving is fine but it’s just not the highlight of my year. Christmas is where it’s at for me :)

I always loved black licorice! The black jelly beans were my favorite! lol

I am going to offend a ton of people with my unpopular opinion. I am not crazy and Chip and Joanna Gaines and Fixer Upper. I watched the first season, but after that I thought everything started to look the same. I love their personalities….just not their design. I feel like a weight has been lifted off my shoulders lol!

Reply

I’ll tell my sister not to read your comment ha;) I’m so glad you feel better Kelsey after confessing this hahah!! Thank you for sharing and have a beautiful day!

I fully agree. I leave near Dallas and so many of my friends make the 1 1/2 hour pilgrimage to Waco to go to Magnolia Market (which they admit is overrated). I always think it’s a load of crap that they can fully renovate a house with top quality materials for $56.32 or whatever ridiculously low budget they say they have. Also, shiplap and been doors will soon be the wood paneling of the 2010s.

Reply

I love the unpopular opinions! Haha! Mine are:
1) I really do not enjoy red tomato sauce on my pizza. I always order my pizza WHITE!
2) I don’t like bananas… I mean, I eat them because I know they’re great for running, but I can’t say that I enjoy them.
3) I never got into House of Cards. I have tried many times to like it but I just can’t.
4) Same thing with Game of Thrones… I don’t get the appeal.
5) I LOVE running on the treadmill! It is my jam.

Reply

I really don’t like going out to be a big breakfast/brunch. I know people love it (my BF included) but I hate overeating so early in the day and then feeling like I need a nap.
Think the paint and sip fad is silly.
Can’t stand mayo. Makes me gag.

Reply

My son is in prek and goes 3 days a week and it always seems like he wakes early on non school days but I have to wake him in school days and he’s a grump and hard to wake! I hate doing it and I think ugh next year it will be every day. We have to leave around 7:30 in the morning. What is Brooke’s school schedule?

McDonalds French fries and ice cream is one of my favourites. And last night the other half actually dipped sour cream chips into whipped berry cream cheese (I refused to try it). But I am pretty good about food combos. I love pickles.
My run today was a run commute to work. Half of it was in the dark. But those are the best kinds of run.

I missed 3 -4 months of 2012 due to injury (I missed the Hood to Coast relay, the Portland Marathon, a trail relay etc) but…I had a fun summer anyhow. And then I got to run Boston in 2013 so that made up for it – I spent 2013 re building my running. Also, 2014 ended up being an amazing year of running for me. What I am trying to say is that the time off was actually really good for me:). Have a great day?!

Reply

Unpopular opinions…hm. I really hate steak. As a kid, I just didn’t like meat, but now I eat a lot of ground turkey at home, and chicken if I go out somewhere. But steak is just a no-no for me. I have had two bites of steak in my whole life!

My bedtime routine..I go from work->run->as soon as I get home, clothes off. Shower. So that as soon as I sit on the couch for dinner I am ready for bed :)

My run today is a 4 mile tempo with my friends! I’ve been really killing the track/interval workouts lately, but have struggled with tempos. But today is the day I conquer! :)

Reply

Oh I hope your tempo run is an amazing one… love doing those with friends. Today is your day and way to go on the awesome track/interval workouts lately! Thanks for sharing Eleanor and let me know how the tempo miles go after work!

Hey girl! My tempo run went amazing. I almost gave up when I had .2 left and was like nope! And finished it up. It definitely boosted my confidence.

YOU ARE AMAZING!! Way to go Eleanor… keep remembering this workout and how you rocked it!

My unpopular opinion: I do not like candy or soda. Both taste really gross to me, like the unnatural sweetness, and also gummy textures in candy. Yuck! I am fine with chocolate, but I don’t crave it and would be fine without it. I’m more of a savory foods person :)

I missed the NYC Marathon this past weekend due to a femoral stress fracture (but in the shaft, not the head, which is supposedly less serious). I got a quad pain about 3 weeks before the race, so I stopped training to rest/rehab it, but it didn’t get better. Then 5 days before the race, I got MRI results that it was a grade 3 stress reaction = cryfest as I had to cancel my entry. But I vow to do it next year!

Reply

Oh EVE!! I am so so incredibly sorry about your stress fracture. Mine were in the shaft too which I agree, much better than the head (I didn’t have to do crutches)! Next year when you are running the NYC marathon will feel even more special than ever after what you went through this year! Thinking about you and please keep me updated with how you are doing!

Reply

Thank you so much, Janae! I actually went back and read your posts on aqua running which were so encouraging and helpful. I’m really glad you wrote about that. My doctor said I can start doing it after Thanksgiving, along with PT. So 2.5 weeks to go… Can’t wait!!! :)))

Oh I am so glad you can aqua run soon… it helped me so much to get through injuries. You still get a workout, some endorphins and it doesn’t hurt the injury. You’ve got this Eve!

I am WITH your mom on the black licorice LOVE! I may have told you this before, but when I was pregnant, they had black licorice ice cream at Cold Stone Creamery. I ordered it with cookie dough, and I still dream about that combo. It totally wasn’t because I was pregnant either–I’d eat that any time!!! Two summers ago, I was on vacation in Seattle, and the one creamery we went to had BLACK LICORICE. I about died. I took a picture of it, and of course ate some!

I have missed a few races because of injury, and I have to say that it’s gotten easier to deal with each time around. Working hard NOW to address the fact that I’ve been in this situation more often than I should be. Running isn’t life, and my body just likes more cross training along with running. Embracing that :)

– I don’t really like sweet meat in any form (honey ham, cafe rio pork, BBQ sauce). I also don’t like cow meat – it tastes like blood to me. I do love lamb, though!
– I don’t care for candy or soda/juice. I do like black licorice and dark chocolate, though, which seem to be the least popular types of candy for the rest of the world. WIn.
– I don’t love Harry Potter. I get a lot of hate for this. I read books 1-5 in Jr. High and they were “page-turners”, but not my favorite. So I never finished 6-7. I also really don’t love the movies.
– I hate all super-hero-esque movies. They are so busy and crazy, they give me motion sickness. I don’t actually love any American TV or movies made after about 1980 . . .
– I HATE PB and Jelly together (opposite of you). I eat plain peanut butter or cream cheese and jelly sandwiches instead.
– I don’t love cake or donuts. They are good enough, but probably the last sweet thing I would ever care to eat. I especially hate frosting. I’m more of a cookies and ice cream person.

My husband also doesn’t like pancakes and it is THE WORST. It is such a challenge in our marriage. I feel for you.

This post is so funny. It never occurred to me that someone wouldn’t like hummus, we are obsessed with it hehe. My husband used to be a bit like Andrew and wouldn’t care about breakfast, I was raised the complete opposite, it is literally the very first thing everyone in my family does when we get up, can’t function without it unless I’m out for a run hehe.

My family doesn’t care about Christmas, is not even like for religious reasons , is just that is been 2-3 generations everyone is used to just join their spouse’s family for that holiday, but it happened that both of my parents families didn’t care much, l remember my parents tried to do it properly once, with dinner, Christmas tree, songs and gifts, it was so weird because we went for so many years without it haha. Now I’m always super excited about spending Christmas with my in-laws, I’m like a kid enjoying all the Christmas songs, decorations, dinner, games, can’t wait to use my Christmas jumpers hehe.

I thought you revealed the name in a previous post?, one where you guys went for a doctor’s appointment? or Andrew wrote part of the post? Maybe it was all a dream :s , oh dear I’ll be obsessed with this today, was it a dream? Hope you have an awesome day :)

Oh my gosh I loved Stranger Things 2! But the first season was definitely better:)

My unpopular opinion… I really hate beets. Like, HATE them, and all of my healthy, fitnessy friends think this is ludicrous. I’m also solidly not a fan of the color pink, which got me a lot of flack as a ballerina and cheerleader growing up.

I missed a half in september and the Toronto Marathon in October because of a stress fracture this year- so rough, but I just deferred and now I’m prepping for a different race!

Reply

These unpopular opinions are hysterical!!

I love hummus!! PB and honey all the way! LOVE oatmeal cookies. Hate black licorice. Love pancakes! Love gilmore girls. Hate Pinterest too. Haven’t watched stranger things 2 yet…..

I don’t care for bananas and never have. Hate any dessert that’s banana centered….banana cream pie, banana bread, just no, gross!!

Thanks for making me laugh this morning, I needed it.

My getting ready for bed routine consists of about 10 minutes — and I floss and brush every night.

Unpopular opinion — flossing is the best!

Reply

– I have no idea what Stranger Things is (other than a TV show?) maybe I’ve been living under a rock lately :)
– I also hate indian food – its the spices and the smell that gets me. Many of my friends love it.
– Never had horchata – I will have to try it sometime
– Maybe Andrew will change over time about small dogs. I used to feel that way – I had a wonderful collie growing up. I changed my tune about small dogs after I watched a coworker’s pug for the weekend. It was a blast. I don’t think I will ever change on the no dogs on the bed rule tho.
– I love yoga, but just cannot understand the need for hot yoga
This post (and comments) are too funny! Happy Wednesday!

I keep wondering WHY IN THE WORLD I want to go to bed at 7, and for some reason I keep forgetting that it’s probably because of daylight savings and the fact that it’s getting darker so much earlier.

Also, I’m all for a good PB&J, but peanut butter and banana is my real win. Throw a piece of bacon on top and that’s just a whole other level.

Why do oatmeal raisin cookies make an unpopular opinion list? They’re delicious! ALSO, oatmeal raisin cookies with chocolate chips are EVEN better!

Reply

Oh man, we are still recovering big time from daylight savings, glad we’re not the only ones. My son is only one so we’re new at this, how long does it take them to adjust??

My most unpopular opinion probably has to do with weather. I love HOT weather (like 100+) as long as it’s not too humid. I even like running in it if it’s not too far. This was not true when I was pregnant though!

Reply

Love reading all these!
-I can’t watch movies. I’ll watch tv shows for hours but cannot get into a movie.
-I put pickle juice on my mac and cheese. I know, so weird but so good!
-I love chocolate but can’t stand brownies

Reply

Andrew is weird. Everyone puts ketchup on chicken nuggets (right?).

I can’t stand any dessert with fruit in it (though I love fruit alone). No apple pie, no peach cobbler, no healthy food with all its vitamins and minerals trying to sneak into my indulgent sugar-filled sweet moment of happiness taking up perfectly good space that should be occupied by chocolate. Hmmph.

Reply

I LOVE these unpopular opinions! So fun! I have to agree on the disliking breakfast foods opinion. I’ve never been a breakfast person, and sometimes I will even just straight up eat a lunch food for breakfast instead of something traditional. My husband can’t understand this at all – breakfast is his favorite!

Reply

My run today was 4 easy miles…..first run since my half marathon on Saturday. Your opinions are hilarious! I love bbq sauce for chicken and I love peanut butter and honey and soft oatmeal raisin cookies. I do not like mayonnaise…..at all. And i only like sweet pickles. That is something most people disagree with.

Reply

Hey Janae……
Some of my unpopular opinons:
I cannot stand mushrooms….. they may be good for flavor but those guys are slimey and are just yucky! I liked them for 3 months of my pregnancy when I wanted them in/in on everything…..ewwww!

I am NOT a huge of pizza. I know, I know, but once you work at Pizza Hut, and you have to smell it all the time and be around all the greasy stuff, its not as yummy sounding. However, I have gotten better about it now, and prefer making it at home.

I LOVE hummus, sorry Janae, but it is sooo yummy especially the red pepper hummus….my 11 year old son actually will eat hummus with grape tomatoes, which I am so happy for because he is not really a veggie eater and lacks in his consumption of protein, lol.

I agree with you on Ketchup, I would drip things like nuggets (if I ever ate them) in it. Yes I have had the ketchup on mac n cheese before too, lol. Also I like ketchup on scrambled eggs.

Oatmeal raisin cookies are SUPER. I also had to find cookies that are not chocolate to like because I am allergic to chocolate (the caffeine)…..people always act so sad for me but really people there are SOOOO many other sweet things out there to eat, so I am taken care of (plus I can have white chocolate and white chocolate reeses pb cups are the best)

YES, peanut butter goes with Jelly……that is just how it is…..yum. I love plum jelly or strawberry.

You asked if I ever had to miss a race because of an injury. I have told you this story before but back in 2012 I was training for my first full marathon coming up in January 2013. It was August time and I was up to about 18 miles in my training. I came down with what felt like a sinus infection etc. Got treated for that but it never was getting better. I was tired and dragging around and just felt crappy. Long story short one evening I spiked a fever of 104 and went to the ER with my husband and my dad (mom stayed back with Lukas – my son – it was 11pm). I was admitted to the hospital because my wbc count was super low. Stayed in the hospital 4 days – they couldn’t figure out what was wrong – checked everything including testing me for west nile (which has to be shipped off to the cdc so takes a long time)……released me because there was no reason to keep me. That next Wednesday (a couple days later) went to my GP to see the results of the latest blood test (went with my husband mom and dad), and they told me I needed to go check back in at the hospital thru emergency because my wbc count was even lower. My husband almost passed out. Back to the hospital for 5 days but in isolation (anyone who came in had to wear a mask and my son couldn’t come at all). More tests….we kept pushing for them to do an ANA test since I already had immune system issues. Finally they ran that and were very close to doing a spinal tap and bone marrow test when they got the results from the ANA that it was Lupus. From there eventually when I went home after that stay I was so weak, had lost 10 lbs and my muscles were so weak, I couldn’t even walk up stairs. When I was released to to work out again I couldnt’. I had to move my race to the next year 2014 and it was the hardest thing ever. I did do my first marathon in 2014 after training over 2 years and I finished in 4:33:10!

I have the solution to your “little dog” conundrum: Get a Jack Russel Terrier!

We have one and she thinks she is a 90 pound dog stuffed into a 17 pound sack. They are a super rough-and-tumble, go-anywhere, hang-with-the-big-dogs kind of breed. She does 12+ miles hikes with us (in the snow even) and she’s 11 years old. Then she’ll snuggle on my lap in the evening. It’s the perfect balance!

OK so this has been really fun to read.
I love your Mom to death – but really? I can’t handle any of those!

I really can’t handle olives, honey or sushi.
I don’t think men should be allowed in restaurants with sleeveless shirts on . It’s just gross.
I don’t like blowing my nose in public.

I’m sure my husband could think of a lot of other weird opinions I have. :)

Unpopular opinions is such a fun idea! Not too many places on the internet where it’s okay to disagree a little;)
– LOVE Stranger Things 2 (such great acting by the kiddos)
– Don’t like the color pink
– Don’t like Facebook
– No meat off the bone for me either
– Don’t like Starbucks (We have Philz Coffee here in the Bay, 1000% times better)
– Tried to love Gilmore girls, but couldn’t stand the mom:(

Reply

I’m with your sister – .can’t stand Pinterest or friend birthday parties.
I don’t like sushi (Or any seafood other than canned tuna for that matter).
I don’t like Ed Sheeran, Taylor Swift, Adele or Beyonce. I appreciate their talent but I just cant stand their music.

P.S. I posed this question to my 15 year old son on our ride home from school and got a solid 15 minutes of conversation with him that didn’t require me asking 20 questions. His unpopular opinions – he doesn’t like Chik-fil-a, Whataburger (A big deal in Texas) or the Dallas Cowboys.

Reply

I’m going to agree with the rest of the group: super fun post, Janae! As for some of my unpopular opinions:
– Oatmeal and shredded wheat are the best…so is Stranger Things 2!
– Winter’s too long and too cold (already snow on the ground and feels like -24C, here in Winnipeg)
– Work potlucks & parties are kinda tedious
– Pie is better than cake!

LOVE the unpopular opinion post! Be free to express yourselves, plleaase. How do you feel? We are in the land of the free and I LOVE truth. Truth => sets us free.

Thank you, HRG!!!

Sometimes opinions are case dependent. I don’t like things like GMOs. In some cases this is unpopular and in other cases it’s wildly supported. Keeps it interesting.

Reply

The unpopular opinion post is so much fun! I love reading through every person’s because some are truly shocking to me. Hahaha. I tried to think of some of mine…

– I detest olives. I can’t even handle the smell of them. I can taste them on everything no matter how well someone “hides” them.
– The thought and sight of oatmeal makes me literally gag. Which is strange because I know for a fact I ate oatmeal everyday for about 4 years at one point in my life. Maybe that’s why…
– If there is peanut butter involved with oatmeal I will not only gag, but actually vomit (hahaha). Yucky. They do not go together.
– Thanksgiving is my absolute favorite Holiday of life, but I don’t care much for Halloween or Christmas (I know, I don’t get it either).

What a fun post! I’m with Andrew about chicken on the bone. My fiancé loves wings and I’m always like “…boneless? Pretty please?”

I used to love Gilmore Girls, probably because my mom and I would watch it together when it first came out so it was our thing. But now I have mixed success whenever I try to re-watch it. There are certain episodes that I love but more and more I find myself getting annoyed by all of the characters. Except Luke. Poor guy.

As for other unpopular opinions,
– I don’t like soda. Growing up it was the carbonation, now it’s that it tastes so sickly sweet. Of course that’s probably because I’m not used to drinking it ;)
– Reality TV is the worst!
– I’m really not a huge fan of the beach. We were always a “let’s-head-up-to-the-mountains” family. Also I’m super pale and it doesn’t take much to turn me into a lobster no matter how much sunblock I use.
– I really don’t like ketchup. I was/still am all about mustard. I love chips dipped in mustard.
– I hate mushrooms and mayo. Which aren’t related but I dislike them both due to texture. It makes me shudder haha
– I love winter. I mean, curling up on the couch with a blanket and mug of hot chocolate…who doesn’t want that?!
– I also really don’t like the Big Bang Theory. I only started watching it this year because my fiancé loves it but I just can’t get into it. I find Sheldon to be flat-out obnoxious, not the “annoying-but-lovable” that I think he is supposed to be.

Reply

AHHH YES… I think the same thing about the Big Bang Theory. It drives me NUTS. Sheldon just makes me angry ha. I’m going to be like you and love winter this year. Thanks for sharing Kate and I hope you have a wonderful evening!

I also don’t understand pb & honey, and think turkey is blah. I definitely THOUGHT I did not want a small dog until I got one (because I came to the realization that I’d be moving a lot and in apartments where small was the limit- it was my 20s). I was raised with boxers and was very “big dog” centric- but I very quickly found out that the love is the same. Bring one home one day, he’ll love it within a week or two ?

I cannot stand the taste of beer. I might could sip about a quarter of a can of ice cold lager on a hot summer day if I had to, but micro brews or anything stronger than lager cannot even pass over my lips. So bitter and gross!

Reply

I’ve never had beer but the smell of it is gross and bitter to me too… I don’t understand the love of it! Thanks Kelly and I hope you have a great night!

Reply

Love this post! And I’m laughing because I put ketchup on my mac n cheese, too!!!! I grew up doing it and thought it was totally normal until I got older and realized most people think it’s disgusting, hahaha. Here’s an unpopular opinion for you, speaking of ketchup — my next door neighbor puts ketchup on his french toast. I dry heave a little just thinking of it!

Other things about me –

– I hate slapstick comedy movies. I’ve never been able to make it through Dumb and Dumber or basically anything with Adam Sandler in it because those kinds of movies just make me crazy.
– I am not a pet person AT ALL.. I like animals in general, but taking care of another thing that isn’t a human just isn’t for me. I let my daughter get a fish once, and let’s just say I wasn’t sad when it died. (I know, I’m horrible!)
– My favorite way to eat muffins is in a bowl with milk all over them. They get soggy and delicious. My husband thinks this is the grossest thing ever.
– I CAN’T STAND chocolate ice cream. Give me all the vanilla-based flavors, but chocolate base is a big no no.

Reply

LOVED reading your unpopular opinions & the comments. There’s some super funny ones!

A few of mine:

– I am really not a fan of chicken wings. Maybe it’s the whole bone thing but they are too messy and sticky and then there’s the weird veins and other bits and blechhh nope.

– I never could jump on the overnight oats thing. I prefer mine hot and fresh off the stove!

– I am not a fan of Game of Thrones, Stranger Things, Walking Dead, House of Cards… a lot of TV shows that everyone claims “are amazing!”

– I actually really love Christmas and could do without Halloween. I live in Canada so our Thanksgiving is in October, so the holiday season pretty much starts ASAP after that!

– I despise sushi or anything related (eg, dynamite rolls, California rolls, etc)

– I actually love grocery shopping! Maybe it’s because I don’t have kids so it’s solo time for me, ha!

– I am not a fan of Taylor Swift whatsoever.

– I dislike Bath & Body Works a lotttt a lot because all of their chemically scents give me headaches!!

Reply

I love the fall but am completely ambivalent about Halloween too! I am not a big candy person and we have such a problem with childhood obesity so I’m baffled why Halloween has exploded into a month long candy extravaganza with ‘trunk or treats’ every other day. Anyway…
I hate wearing pj’s past noon. I don’t change into real clothes right away but you’ll very rarely EVER find me wearing my PJ’s past 10 am. Even when I’m sick, I prefer to change.
I hate onions. But I really hate it when people try to say “oh you can’t even taste them…” Then why are they in the food? What purpose do they serve? THEY ADD ONION FLAVOR. THat’s their purpose. blech!

These were great! So fun to read!

I am a scrooge, a total scrooge. I hate inequality, and to me that’s what Christmas brings. Inequality between families, neighbors, friends, co-workers, etc. It is so much stress and money, and as hard as we (I) try to make it about Christ, it always becomes about money and stuff and is just plain stressful. My kids know I’m a scrooge, and I feel bad about that, but I just am. I try to get into the spirit every year, but all the shopping and baking and running around in the snow (which I’m also not a fan of) kills that spirit for me. Sorry.

I do make homemade dipped chocolates every holiday season which I love. Started them this week!

I could eat breakfast for every meal.

Reply

Andrew doesn’t like breakfast!?! Oh my, not sure how I feel about him now lol (as I had such strong feelings to begin with ha!). My unpopular opinion, I don’t like Beyonce, nor do I think she’s that good of a singer. I’m sorry, but I think she’s so over rated and over marketed. Thanks Janae!

Ahh I LOVE breakfast- eggs, oatmeal, pancakes, waffles, cereal, pastries – like seriously – I love it all. I’m sad for Andrew lol.

But really my point of commenting… WHO DOESN’T LIVE GILMORE GIRLS?!!! I actually rewatched the whole series during both my maternity leaves ;)

My unpopular opinion: I don’t love going to weddings . I feel like an awful person because I genuinely care that my family and friends find love and they feel special and celebrated but they just tend to exhaust me. Or I should clarify I actually love the ceremony part I just don’t love the reception part… ?

I don’t like guacamole… or even avocado in all honesty!

AHHHH REALLY!?!? My mom is the same as you!!! I hope you are having a great night Lauren!

I hate cats. Like loathe them.
I’m not a fan of chocolate. And mix it with peanut butter and I could barf.
I think Halloween is so stupid. Dress up and take candy from strangers. SO weird.
I love airplane bathrooms. They just seem so clean and well-ventilated to me.
Kelly Ripa & Carrie Ann Inaba annoy me to no end. Shhh.

Love the unpopular opinions! For me:
1. Not a fan of Mexican food. I had food poisoning (back in 1996!) in Arizona, at a Mexican restaurant, right before getting on a plane….well, that plane ride didn’t go very well, and I have not liked Mexican food since.
2. Enjoy stale Twizzlers more than fresh ones. Crazy right? I don’t like it when they have a ‘greasy’ texture. I study a package before I will buy it (to make sure not greasy looking) and if I can restrain myself, will let it stay open for a while before eating.

I am doing Boston 2018 — squeaked in by 2 seconds! I have had a nagging problem since September — I think my sciatic nerve is being pushed somewhere (?piriformis) and I have bad calf pain/tightness, which sometimes moves around to other areas while running. I had a similar problem for a year (!!), but not in the calf…it even moved to the other leg right before I did my BQ race last May. Anyway, I stopped running in October, but am going again. It is not comfortable but doesn’t get worse when I run. I have seen a couple physios and am trying to do some hip strengthening. I also swim so have been swimming more than running lately.

I’m a Thanksgiving scrooge, too! I feel kinda badly about this…but it’s just not my favorite holiday. I do love the time with my family though! And I do love recognizing gratitude and everything it’s about. The meal is just so meh for me and it all seems to revolve around that darn bird! lol

I love strawberry jam on avocado toast!

What?! You didn’t like season 2 of Stranger Things??? I LOVED it and was so sad when I finished the last episode because it will probably be at least a year until the next season. :(

I’m on your side about breakfast—best meal of the day!

I agree w/ your mom on black licorice–Yum!

My unpopular opinions: A big NO to yogurt. Yuck. Also to cottage cheese. Double yuck. I’ve tried several times to eat both and I just. can’t. do. it.

My run today was a good five mile jaunt. Temperature was around 52, no wind, sunny. Beautiful!

This is fun.

So, I absolutely despise onions. Like even the smell of them make me sick to my stomach. Yuck and double yuck.

Not a fan of hamburgers or ground beef. Ewww…

If I’m going to be totally honest, I’d much prefer to run on my treadmill than to run outside (I know, how weird, right?).

And I don’t like to snuggle when I’m sleeping. AT ALL. My husband gets it. He doesn’t really either, so we make a good pair :)

And I don’t like milk chocolate. But I do love dark chocolate!

Ok- here goes. You’ve all inspired me. Things I don’t love:
*spin class and yoga
* Adam Levine- his voice bugs me.
* any food that comes from a Lake or ocean
* distopian books and movies
*guacamole
*crowds/shopping in crowds
*Facebook
* I’m not as into This Is Us this season.
You know what I love? Vanilla ice cream and saltine crackers together. Weird, I know, but oddly satisfying.
Wow! That felt good. I think I can sleep peacefully now.

i love these posts!

My unpopular opinions:
I’m with your Mom and where socks with sandals to my kids horror.
I wear my sports belt over my t-shirts, tanks, running jackets, etc. Looks absolutely 80`s ridiculous but the further from my skin the better. I’m sure I’m such a treasure to look at when couple with my socks and sandals. Lol
I’m not a Valentine’s fan, not because of the meaning but because I have an aversion to anything that has pink and red together. Such a hideous site to my eyes.
Not a big on nd honey fan either. peach jelly and pb yum.
My run today was a short 3 miles, intended to do 6 but decided to close my eyes for 5 more minutes which turned in 35 minutes, ugh.

When I was pregnant with both my girls I could not STAND Thai/Indian food.
One time my husband mentioned ordering Thai food and I got SICK.
It went away after my pregnancies both time, but it was a strong aversion for me.

My unpopular opinions:
I REALLY don’t like The Wizard of Oz. I know, it’s a classic, but I just can’t stand it.
I hate the sound of whistling – makes my skin crawl.
I also dislike Coldplay. We have a strong “NO Coldplay” rule in our house.
I hate gum. It’s crewing on spit – EW!
My daughter shares the dislike of pancakes, which I TOTALLY don’t understand! Luckily she loves waffles, so we can compromise!
I will say we are loving this season of Stranger Things (half-way through)!

I don’t like cheese on my pizza. I’ll pick it off, if necessary!
I also like really stinky French cheeses (the rindy kind that smell like old gym socks) but hate regular old Swiss cheese.

I HATE prime rib…like so much I can’t even stand to watch someone eat it. I know others love it but nope! Just NO!

I hate cucumbers with such a passion. The smell of them makes me soooo nauseous, I think their flavor is so over powering, lol weird I know.
I am with you on Thanksgiving food, and my birthday can even be on Thanksgiving which is even more ironic, but I’ll just sit in the corner with some apple pie and be happy.
Ranch on everything is life, apparently it’s a midwest thing, so maybe that’s why I like it, but ranch and pizza is magical.
Why are these all about food? lol
I love doing laundry and going grocery shopping, I find them therapeutic. I feel like I’m checking something off my to-do list but it doesn’t take that much effort or mental capacity.

I also don’t really like pancakes. They’re just too sweet. I am an eggs kind of girl. Especially with hot sauce. I also don’t really like cereal for the same reason as above.
I also find Thanksgiving dinner to be bleh.
I don’t like Game of Thrones.
I also take cool showers, I think they are warm but my partner says it’s tepid at best.

I don’t like This Is Us! I loved the first few episodes. And then, No. I don’t like the whole mystery thing. I don’t like Kevin’s storyline. It’s just too sappy and pre-meditated and formulaic for me right now. I finally cancelled the automatic recording on my dvr. I would see a new episode and then feel like I had to watch and I wasn’t enjoying it. Sorry, I know VERY unpopular with you :) ( I was on vacation so late reply :) Love these posts!)

I had a hard time with Thanksgiving until about five years ago (so that’s almost 50 years of hard time!). Now I’ve created a Thanksgiving with my kids that we all love. It used to make my skin crawl and my stomach turn.

I miss reading your blog! So glad you are doing well!

I liked stranger things 2 but I didn’t love it like I did the first season.
My BF and I are the same with showers, I love to turn up heat up super high before I get out and he thinks even the warm is scalding hot.
My unpopular opinion- I don’t love Game of Thrones. I am up to season 4 and I can stand to watch episodes here and there but really I am limping my way through for my BF because he LOVES it! Maybe I will like the books better hahahaha

I think the only one I actually gasped out loud when I read was that Megan doesn’t like Gilmore Girls. Like literally gasped out loud and my hand went to my heart. Oy with the poodles already.
