A Movie (from us). My Favorites and YOU Are Amazing!

A Thursday run with Andrew went down in 52 degree weather which felt perfect (didn’t need the gloves but I like toasty hands so I was happy to have them).

Not sure what I was saying in the picture below but the bump is starting to remind me a little bit like a torpedo.

While we were out Andrew told me his absolute BIGGEST RUNNING PET PEEVE—>  he hates it so bad when he pushes the lap button on his watch on accident, he cannot stand that.  I agree, it is really annoying when your watch starts lapping at random times and not right at the mile.

IMG 6714

It was raining leaves while we were out and Andrew enjoyed trying to catch them as they fell… I put all of my focus into staring at the ground to avoid tripping so I did not catch any leaves.

IMG 6709

5.36 miles @ a 9:30 average pace.  I think Beretta was the most tired out of the three of us at the end (if she ever did a marathon she would positive split by at least 93 minutes… she always wants to go out like a bullet).

First impression about the Ghost 10s—> SOFT, comfortable, a tiny bit more shoe than what I’m used to but worth it for the cushioning.  My body was very happy with them at the end of this run… I was ready for some fresh cushioning.  I’ll do a full review after 50ish miles!

IMG 6758

School mornings = multi-tasking at it’s finest.  Brooke’s hair and breakfast usually happen at the same time.

IMG 1759

Knox looking a little too cool for school.

IMG 1789

Brooke got a donut at school for somebody’s birthday and that made her day!  Somehow it seems to me that there is a birthday daily in her class, it’s quite remarkable.

IMG 1796

Tuna fish once a week has continued to be a thing this pregnancy, add some potato soup (from Costco) and grapes = perfection.

IMG 1797

Not too much later on we had some hot chocolate and maybe Andrew will learn the correct ratio of marshmallows to hot chocolate after a few more years of marriage.

IMG 1798

Later on in the day we took the kids out for a bit.  They have been asking to go to Petsmart for a while to look at the snakes and hamsters so we stopped by there for a little while.

IMG 1811

After that we did a bunch of errands before going to get some food.

IMG 1818

Beautiful, beautiful Cafe Rio.  We haven’t been in at least a month and it was definitely time yesterday.  I can’t tell you how happy it makes me when one of you tell me that you were able to try Cafe Rio for your first time and you thought of me while you were there… It makes me feel very proud.

I couldn’t decide on a chicken salad or tortilla soup so I went with both and it was a very good decision because I left with no regrets of missing out on one or the other;)

IMG 1817

Round #2 of hot chocolate for the day with mismatching socks.

IMG 1821

I really need this Donut Warming Mug that Kayde sent the link to… it would be perfect for my donut and hot chocolate (that combo sounds so good right now)!

Time for a few of my Friday Favorites:

*Last Man on Earth.  Andrew and I started watching it the other day and I find it so random, hilarious and weird… but I love it.

*This Rip Curl fleece jacket that I got last winter… I’m so glad I did because it is the softest jacket ever and it feels like you are wearing a big blanket all day:)

*Don’t show our kids this post but we got these for them for Christmas!  They are little dog sleeping bags for our movie nights… here is the link to them on Amazon but they are way cheaper ($25) at Costco.  I kind of want one for myself too.

*Michele (NYC Running Mama) posted this quote yesterday and it was the first time I’ve ever read it.  I agree 1000000000000%

*This cardigan and these nursing friendly dresses from Roolee that I just got (the zippers are hidden but they are on the sides so it will make nursing so much easier when wearing a dress)!  Roolee has a 15% discount for you to use through November 21st wahoo——>  use the code HUNGRYRUNNERGIRL15

*A little movie from us.  Andrew and I have officially set up a race where we will be competing against one another.  He set a pretty high wager too + a little dance to the kid’s favorite song right now.

Annemarie!!!  “My running accomplishment was finally running the NYC marathon (my hometown!) after years of trying to get in!  I entered the lottery 3 years in a row, and never got in, finally last year I stepped up my training and got in via time qualifier.  I was SO excited!  Then, about 6 months out from the marathon, I was diagnosed with a high hamstring tear.  I was devastated.  But, I had an awesome doctor, who recommended PRP therapy, followed by 6 weeks of treatment, PT, and 10 sessions on the AlterG.  I was GTG and able to start training right on time in July!  At first, I did not have high hopes for my time because I was worried about re-injuring myself.  But as the weeks and months went by, I felt better and better.  By the time I got to the end of my training, I knew I could go for my sub 3:30 goal.  I was ecstatic!  The race went really well for the first half and I ran with the 3:30 pace group the whole time, feeling fantastic.  Then, my husband couldn’t catch up to me for the bottle handoff and after 3 miles of searching for him in the crowd, I finally decided I need to stop and refill my tailwind, otherwise I would crash hard toward the end.  The lack of refueling for those miles definitely caught up to me toward the end, but I pushed on and crossed the finish line strong at 3:34:11.  I fell a little short of my “A” goal, but I made my “B” goal of sub 3:40 (my original predicted time) so I was still SUPER happy.  I left it all on the course and that’s all I could ask for!  Plus I had 5/8 of my family there to support me, so that made my whole year!  I can get my sub 3:30 next time:)”

Chelsea!!!  “My fiancé and I did our first back-to-back trail races last weekend.  We both did a 15k on Saturday, then on Sunday, I ran a 25k and Jake ran a 50k.  I had run both distances before, but never back to back.  It was tough!  The 15k was fine, but the 25k really kicked my butt.  I PR’d on both races, though!  I improved my 15k time by 30 minutes and improved my 25k time by 55 minutes!  I have never hurt that badly in a race before (the 25k), but it felt SO good to finish the back-to-back challenge.  I ended up 10th overall.  Jake, my fiancé, got 1st overall!  It was a great weekend for racing! You can read more about it on my blog HERE!”

Peggi!!!  “This past Sunday 11/12/17- I ran the Cypress Half Marathon here in Cypress, TX where I live.  It is the 3rd year of the run and also my 3rd time running it.  This was also my 15th half marathon.  When I ran it last year I ended up with a time 22 seconds off from my PR of 1:54:03… I was so close!!!  Coming in to the race this year I was so full of nerves wondering if I could go faster than last year (I had given it my all last year and it was tough).  I decided my plan would be to go out with a good pace but not too fast (previous year I was too fast in the beginning and started falling off at the end).  I did this until about mile 9-10 then started picking up the pace.  I really didn’t think I was going fast enough to beat my PR.  However, as I crossed the finish line and looked at the clock I knew I had a new PR!  I got my medal and just bent over almost in tears.  My final time was 1:53:09.6- almost a minute faster than my PR.  I never thought I would be fast again after my Lupus diagnosis in Sept 2012 (2012 was when I had my last half marathon PR that I referred to here), but then last year I proved that it was within my reach.  Now, here I am today with a new PR and I am so proud, I cannot stop smiling.”

Katie!!! “This past weekend I ran my second marathon in Richmond, Virginia!  My main goal was just to have fun and enjoy the race, and it was so much better than my expectations!  The course is beautiful and the crowd support is amazing.  My wonderful parents and amazing boyfriend flew down to cheer for me at multiple spots on the course which made the miles fly by.  I can’t wait to do another one!”

You have the sweetest kids :) That video of them dancing is precious.

I have never been to a Cafe Rio and I don’t think we have them anywhere near Michigan! This is especially sad, because we have Chipotle’s everywhere (which I really don’t like).

We have a very busy Friday night….after work we are driving about an hour to Ann Arbor to visit my sister at college and to bring dinner to some of our friends that recently had a baby. This is big for me making plans like that on a Friday night, because I like to be in bed by like 9 at the latest and we probably won’t be home until at least midnight. I’m looking forward to tonight, but I’m already tired thinking about it…haha

Have a great weekend!

I hear ya on chipotle! I’ll mail you some cafe rio;) Sounds like such a fun night Allison! I sure hope you get to sleep in on Saturday! Thanks!!!

Haha love this wager! I’m rooting for you, Janae!! :) I’m currently in a training plan because I’m doing my first race IN MORE THAN A YEAR. My kidney issues/surgeries kept me out of racing (and a lot of running) for a WAY too long, but I signed up for a 10K next month. I’m super nervous but also really excited!

I had Five Guys last night, but I’ve eaten at Cafe Rio now that I’m in California! We don’t have them in Texas, but I’m even on the rewards program app here—I love the quesadillas there!

Reply

Hahaha thank you Natalie! I am sooooooooo excited for your race next month, you are going to do amazing! You have had a crazy year and I am so happy your body is in a place now where racing can happen again!!! Yep, their quesadillas are amazing!

Reply

I agree with Andrew, pushing the lap button by accident is so annoying! It always throws my run off…
But he has got to get it together with the marshmallows! Seriously, come on man!
Thanks for sharing the fleece jacket, I know what I’m going to be living in this winter ;)
Can’t wait to see your Christmas traditions, Knox and Brooke are at such a fun age – the holiday season is so magical!
I had a great run last night, temps were perfect (I wore shorts and a tshirt) and I was able to zone out and just run. I love it when that happens!
I’ve never been to a Cafe Rio sadly…
Enjoy your weekend!

Oh Erinn… I am so glad you had such an amazing run last night! That is the best! Well, I need to send you some cafe rio ASAP:) have a wonderful Friday!!

What running tights are you wearing and loving these days? Are you wearing maternity? I’m almost 16 weeks pregnant and realizing that my regular tights aren’t going to last my entire pregnancy.

Thanks for your help!

Reply

Congratulations Karen! I am using regular tights but I just wear them low… I bought a few in bigger sizes to use and they have stretched nicely! Here is a post where I share all of the things I’ve been doing for maternity clothes!

My Friday night plans are not very exciting but that’s okay because my Saturday is chock full of fun! I plan on getting a run in and cleaning up my messy, messy house tonight. And then hopefully getting some seriously good sleep tonight because I’ve been lacking in that department lately.
My dinner last night was a couple of pieces of chicken bacon ranch pizza and it was, of course, absolutely delicious!
I’ve never even heard of Cafe Rio until I started reading your blog. I don’t think they are anywhere near me, but I bet I’d like them!

Reply

Well, I need to send you some cafe rio then:) I hope you get the best sleep tonight Rhiannon so your busy/fun Saturday is the absolute best! Enjoy!!

Reply

I’ve decided that the next time I find myself in a place that has a Cafe Rio I have to try it out. Anytime you go I always want what you get!

I think you guys have every right to get your Christmas traditions in early since the baby with throw a small (but amazing!) wrinkle in the normal holiday timeline.

Can’t wait for the race of the year next year ;)

Reply

Hi Janae:)

My Friday night plans are about spending time with my mother in law. My fiancé has to work to tonight so it will be just the two of us.

No runs for me this week because I don’t feel like myself when I get my period. I don’t know why it is so incredibly hard for me to run on my period. Am I the only one?

I am planing to follow a training plan for the holidays. So let’s see how that goes :)

My last race was in Hialeah FL. It was a 5K in the trails and in the middle of the night! Will never forget that race.

My dinner last night was parmesan crusted chicken from Long Horn. I had it with steamed broccoli and house salad. That salad is my favorite part. I don’t think we have Cafe Rio in FL.

Your lunch and that hot chocolate looks amazing!

Reply

Never been to Cafe Rio but it sounds delightful.
I too have a question about the running tights and what you are wearing currently (I am about a week or so behind you with my first pregnancy.)
Also, the weight spread that has happened despite continuing to run the entire pregnancy….it does sort of return to normal? I mean no more continual thigh rubbing?
Do you add any weights into your running routine?

Reply

Hey Kristen! CONGRATS on your pregnancy and we are so close (hallelujah)!!! I have just been using bigger sizes of running tights and wearing them low (and under my belly)! Yes, it does return to normal but as my sister (mom of 5) always says… it takes 40 weeks to put on the weight, it takes 40 (or more) to lose it so don’t stress yourself out about losing it fast! Your body is doing something beyond incredible! As far as weights go… I don’t currently do weights but I use this for strength training 2 times a week right now:

Hi – I have been meaning to tell you about our Cafe Rio experience! My daughter and I had a little vacation in Utah a couple weeks ago – she was interviewing at a school there. We stayed in South Jordan and were able to hike everyday and think your state is just the most gorgeous!!! We did several hikes in Big Cottonwood Canyon, Little Cottonwood Canyon and Provo Canyon plus I got a couple bonus runs in on the city trail system while she was busy with school stuff. Amazing area for outdoor enthusiasts! I kept telling her we needed to try Cafe Rio before we left, but we didn’t get around to it until we were waiting at the airport for our flight out. We tried the sweet pork enchiladas and before I was even finished I was googling “copy cat recipes for Cafe Rio” . So yummy!!!!

Reply

Hey Joan!! Oh I love that you were in Utah and able to hike so much, the mountains here are incredible. I am SO happy that you were able to try cafe rio while you were here (I always eat at the airport one ha)! Is your daughter going to be coming to school here?

Reply

Oh my gosh those sleeping bags are the cutest! Brooke and Knox are going to love them! And I totally agree that I want one too!

I’m tapering right now so my best run of the week will hopefully be the Philly Marathon which I’m running this Sunday! The weather isn’t looking great (windy and possible light rain) so I’m going to try to focus less on a specific time, and more on running a smart/ mentally tough race. We’ll see how it goes! And I’m totally thinking post-race hot chocolate needs to happen :-) Also, Andrew definitely needs to learn the proper marshmallow ratio!

Reply

AHHHH DIANA!!! GOOD LUCK on Sunday, I am so excited for you! Please let me know how it goes and I think you have a great game plan with that weather! I’ll be thinking about you on Sunday and you better get that hot chocolate. Thank you for also seeing Andrew’s marshmallow ratio as not okay ha.

YOU’VE GOT THIS… you’ve done the work, now go celebrate your training on the streets of Philly!

Reply

Groceries and dinner out usually happen on Friday nights for us! Your hot chocolate pictures reminded me of what I heard on the radio on my drive to work this morning. There’s a mug called the Ember mug that keeps your drink at the temperature you set it to. How neat is that?

Reply

Friday night = do nothing and go to bed early so I can wake up early for my Saturday long run.

My best run this week was definitely my track workout on Tuesday. My training plan isn’t super strict right now, however my goal is to run 5 times a week, and have 2 of those be speed days and 1 long run day. I am increasing long run back up to a half in January, but since I just got done half training its more maintaining.

I’ve never had Cafe Rio. In Florida we have Moes and Chipotle, but where I live in Florida we don’t even have a Chipotle close, ugh. Luckily we have some amazing Mexican food trucks. One day I will try Cafe Rio!

Have a fun Friday! Can’t wait to hear about your tradition!

Reply

PS. This post linked at the bottom to your “healthy nachos” post from 2014, and now I am totally making those soon.

Reply

YOU ARE GOING TO LOVE the healthy nachos… they are so good:) Way to go on your track workout this week Eleanor and GOOD LUCK on your long run tomorrow:) I need to try out Moes, I’ve never even heard of that restaurant. Have a beautiful weekend and thank you!

Reply

While we were out your way we never made it to Cafe Rio…although I wanted too. I’m jealous of your weather, I could definitely use 50+ degrees although it’s not raining in the 40s so can’t hate that…

Reply

I just had Cafe Rio this week! Maybe we need to meet up at a Cafe Rio between my work and your house soon!! I think that’s the last place we had lunch too. Haha
Tonight I’m prepping and packing for my quick trip to Vegas this weekend for Backstreet Boys!!!!
PS you’re totally going to win next year. You’re speedy!!

Reply

I have a question for you… do you like café rio or costa vida better and WHY?!

Reply

HEY KAMI!!! I love both but Cafe Rio comes in first for me. I love the taste of their meat so much more, their vinaigrette is my favorite (I don’t like the ranch at either places) and I think their tortillas are better too… but I love both so I’m happy either place but I prefer Cafe Rio. I hope you are having a wonderful day!

Reply

Yay for the Ghosts!! I love mine :) Aging=extra cushioning hahahaha! They are so comfortable for training.

Reply

My Friday plans include packing for the beach for next week! Woo hoo! We leave tomorrow and I’m pretty excited! But, I’m a terrible procrastinator when it comes to packing….Oops!!
I can’t wait until we have more Christmas lights up around where I live! I loooove driving around looking at them with hot chocolate in hand! PS I tried the Starbucks White hot chocolate and you were SO right! It’s DELICIOUS!!

Reply

Knox is quite a man of fashion! He looks so cool.
I would love for someone to style my hair while I eat breakfast! Those DryBar places need to start serving food lol

LOVING Hot Chocolate lately!! PRO TIP: Instead of marshmallows (I know!), put some whipped cream in the bottom of your mug before you add the cocoa. I do this when I get gas station hot cocoa :)

Reply

You are brilliant Elizabeth. I will be trying this asap. Thank you… I have a feeling this will be a new favorite. Also, your idea about DryBar + breakfast served to you… let’s go into business on that one:) Have a wonderful Friday!

Reply

Last Man on Earth is my favorite. It is random but always makes me laugh and the guest cameos are amazing.

Where did you get Brooke’s coat? It super cute.

Reply

Oh I am so glad you love it too… we are obsessed!! We got her coat at Old Navy! They have the best kids stuff. Have a fabulous day Corrinne!

Reply

I just got a reminder on my cafe too so that my $5 credit was about to expire. I can’t let THAT happen. Guess I know where I will be going for lunch.

Last Man On Earth reminds me of the beginning years on The Office. It is so uncomfortable and awkward to watch and I LOVE it.

Reply

Why did you look at snakes!!!!? Ahh! I hate them!

I’m doing a 10k training right now randomly. Not that I’ve signed up for one yet, just thought I’d give t a try. I honestly haven’t ever followed a good training plan so this has been fun and interesting.

Reply

We will ALL want to be at this race!!! Give us a good amount of head’s up and we’ll be there!! You might need the local stadium for all your followers to see this! :D

I’ve tried Cafe Rio…because of you, and it is seriously my favorite go-to lunch at work when I don’t have a packed lunch.

I am trying to just focus on a workout a day until Christmas – even on busy days to just squeeze in an 8 min abs, 30 min DVD or anything to keep me from taking too many days off as this time of year gets busy and to counteract all the treats around me!

Reply

Oh I totally will let you know when this race is happening, it’s going to be a good one:) Oh I am so happy that you love Cafe Rio too. It is the best! 8 min abs is the best… I’ve missed it! You are doing awesome Mel! Enjoy your weekend!

Reply

Oh my gosh! Last man on earth is THE BEST ? I love it so much!

Reply

Seriously, I don’t know how I went so long without this show. It is hilarious and I love each character SO much! Have a wonderful day Tiffany!

Reply

Last man is the best! I love it! Hang in there, I think it’s season 3 that’s on right now……..so good!
I had tuna last night….yum!
Tonight is Whole Foods for dinner, then grocery shopping with the hubby.
My last race was in Brentwood (just outside of Nashville, TN). My next one is in March and it starts 3 blocks from my apartment………..super convenient! I am in the weird “not training quite yet, still resting up from the last race 2 weeks ago” phase right now. My runs have been shorter but easier. I am going to get a few miles in after work today, and a few tomorrow hopefully, but no long runs until next week.

Have a great day!

Reply

How do you win this bet? If he wins the half and mile but you win the 3 mile does he win for 2/3 or do you win for going twice as far? ?

Reply

You guys are amazing! I cannot imagine getting that much done after school. I pick up my son and it gets dark on the way home. We fix dinner, watch one 30 minute cartoon, then get ready for bed. What time do they get out of school?

Reply

I haven’t had hot chocolate in a while and this makes me want some. And donuts too! I hope you have an amazing weekend, we will be going to a football game then prepping for thanksgiving!

Have any fun Friday night plans?

i will be sleeping over my friend’s so we can go to the start of our race tomorrow. another parent friend will meet us there. i hope all three families come in time for the finish it would be great to take a photo together.

What was your best run this last week? Hardest run? Are you on a training plan during the holidays or do you take a break from specific workouts during this time of year?

i’ve been sickened by food/water while abroad! so no runs. last run was last Tue. No expectations for race day tomorrow given the health issues. i won’t be following a specific training plan during the holidays.

In what city was your last race?

Brooklyn, NY!

What did you have last night for dinner and who has tried Cafe Rio?!

roast chicken, brussel sprouts and rice! it was tasty thanks to husband’s cooking…!

Reply

Andrew, I’m going to assume you already slurped off a mountain of marshmallows before this pic was taken. I can’t think of any other rational explanation for your ratio. This race is going to be great – I can see some intense training in both your futures!

Reply

Every word of your comment made me so happy! Hahaha thanks Michelle! Also, Andrew told me he is going to start doing half mile repeats next week to start his year long training! Have a beautiful day!!!

Reply

I know this is weird, but every time you post about Cafe Rio it just makes me want Costa Vida?. Your kids are adorable!

Reply

We are having our families over tonight to thank them for all of the extra help with our kiddos while we’ve coached cross country this season. They really are the best!

Best run this week was probably a tempo with my xc girls on Monday, and it was probably my hardest ;) I had just ran 21 on Saturday, so tempo on tired legs was tough but awesome! I’m on a plan right now because I have a marathon two week from Sunday and I have big GOALS!

My last race was in my hometown and my next one is in Sacramento :)

Last night’s dinner was Cheesecake Factory after the xc valley meet and it was yummo! We are getting a Cafe Rio in my city and it should be done any time now…

Reply

I’m always so envious of all the yummy places you get to eat! Where I live, we have two of every fast food joint, a couple of Mexican restaurants, and that’s pretty much it. We have to drive at least 45 minutes for something really good.
I wanted to ask you about your kitchen table. Where did you get it from? And, is it durable? Meaning, if your kids paint on it and do craft projects on it (with glitter glue…and LOTS of it!), does it clean up easily? We are in desperate need of a new table and I’m on the hunt for something that will last!
Hope you enjoy your weekend!

Reply

Come visit me and I’ll take you to all my favorite restaurants! Here is the table (we did different chairs)!
https://www.rcwilley.com/Furniture/Dining-Room/Dining-Tables/Standard/4620460/Sheesham-Dining-Table—Sotto–View.jsp

We absolutely love this table and the bench! As far as crafts go… I have the kids do everything like that at the counter. I want this table to last forever so we just eat and play games there. I hope you have a beautiful day!

Reply

Last race was a half marathon in the rain for the entire 2 hours! In Grand Rapids, MI.

Completely agree with Andrew re: accidentally hitting the lap button on the GPS watch – so annoying!

Completely agree with you on the correct marshmallow to hot cocoa ratio – should completely cover the top (at a minimum!) :-)

Our city’s Christmas tree lighting festival is tonight and some friends are having a gathering at their law office downtown so we’ll be heading there but I have to work in the morning so I’ll be heading to bed early tonight too. :-)

I love your bump! ? It makes me so happy to see you glowing!

Friday night plans = curling up in our pjs and watching a movie.

Hardest run(s) waking up in the dark and running in the rain before work haha. Best run was a run this morning with a girl friend – we got to catch up over our run and we even had sun today! It has been raining for weeks in our city. No specific training plan right now, just running in anticipating of next season.

We don’t have Cafe Rio in Canada, so have never tried it. Dinner last night = chips, salsa and guacamole. Happy Friday!

Wow, it’s nice that you’re able to do your little’s hair! When my mom worked early mornings and my dad was in charge of getting me ready for elementary school, my hair was so messy that they would ask if I got into a fight….

Reply

I don’t think I mentioned it but when I was coming back from Montana last month I changed planes in Salt Lake City and specifically looked for a Cafe Rio. Thankfully they had one and it was great! We just have Chipotle (meh) and Qdoba (a little better) in St. Louis, so it was a real treat!

Reply

Okay! I seriously have to come watch this race all the way from Texas!!!

Can we please go to Café Rio after???

I just love you and your little family and cannot wait to “meet” that baby girl!
