34 weeks and my MATERNITY NEEDS!!!

FORTY FOUR DAYS TO GO!!  It’s beginning to feel like we have no time at all before she comes and I think that is why the nesting has kicked in big time for me recently.  I just want to organize everything and make sure that we have every little thing that we will ever need (forgetting that fact that Andrew can go out and get anything we need once she does get here though:)!

IMG 0134

*I can now say that we are having the baby NEXT MONTH.  That feels nice.  And if she is anything like Brooke (Brooke was a bit early) maybe even the very end of this month she will come hang out with us.

*The other day my pregnancy app said that she is the size of a pineapple.  We had a pineapple.  I put it next to me and could not believe that she is now this size.  Pretty exciting!

IMG 9875

*Andrew is thinking about getting this shirt for himself:

Screen Shot 2017 10 30 at 8 00 50 PM

*We used these massage chairs a few weeks ago and I still can’t stop thinking about them (maybe I’ll go back today).  I think they should let you rent them out for the length of your pregnancy.  I don’t think I would ever get up is the only problem.

IMG 8933

*My belly is feeling quite itchy right about now, have any recommendations of good creams etc to use?  Between the stretching and dry Utah winter coming quickly, this belly is itchy.

*Running is still feeling really great for me and I feel really lucky!  My doctor is beyond supportive of my miles and the mood boost that it gives me:)  My highlight run of this last week was the 5k last Saturday!  It was the last race that I’ll do probably until next May and I made sure to enjoy the whole thing big time (planning to go spectate or volunteer at races over the months that I miss racing:)!

IMG 0018

*Two things I was told by other mama’s to get… My Brest Friend and these SwaddleMe swaddles:)  Can’t wait to try them out!

IMG 9942

*My aunt sent me a text that she found my breast pump.  I had a really nice one with Brooke and I guess I stored it at my aunt’s house in California once I was done using it (I totally forgot!!) and she said she found it!  I’m pretty excited because that means we don’t have to try to get one from insurance (fun fact: our self-employment insurance is the absolute worst) or buy a new one!

*Because I’m a worrier… reading this below makes me feel better that even if I did go into labor soon, everything should be good!

Screen Shot 2017 10 31 at 12 43 02 PM

*Carbohydrates are #1 in my life still.  I make the bread and Andrew makes the french toast.

IMG 0124

*I just bought this bow subscription.  3 new bows a month.  I can’t wait.

Screen Shot 2017 10 30 at 7 58 53 PM

*I am positive she has hiccups more than any other child ever;)  I kid, but really, she has has the hiccups often.

*I am having some major food aversions to meat (unless it is chicken in my Costco chicken salad).  I thought I was done with those aversions but nope… they are here again!

*The nursery is DONE!!! That feels like quite the relief.  I’ll show you around the nursery next week in my baby update!

————————————————————————————-

I’ve had a few people ask for my necessities during pregnancy as far as clothing goes.  I really didn’t buy a lot and I rewash things a few times a week but these have been the things that I have loved the most.  I’d love for you to share any of your favorites in the comments to help those searching for some good stuff.  I am a huge fan of starting to wear maternity wear before you even really need to… it makes life so much more comfortable while pregnant.

*This nursing bra.  It has been fabulous for pregnancy too as my chest keeps growing and growing.  There is no underwire yet it keeps a great shape and it is SO COMFORTABLE.

*The Snoogle.  I honestly do not know how I would sleep without this thing.

*Maternity pants—>  these and these are my favorite ever.  I bought a few of them and just rotate them throughout the week. They are SO comfortable and I wonder why we wear pants outside of pregnancy with buttons and other uncomfortable things.

*I bought a few tops that I wear under my normal jackets/big sweaters/cardigans that are maternity that I LOVE—>  here and here!

*I love ASOS maternity and loved these this, this and this!

*Target maternity stuff too… I love it.  This sweatshirt is what I want to wear every single day of my life.

As far as maternity active wear goes, I have not bought anything specific for my running.  I have bought bigger sizes in a few things but a lot of my stuff was already long enough (I am hooked on long tanks) and stretchy enough to grow with me!

IMG 8286

Tanks—>  here (they are so long), here (also long and a high neck) and here.

Sports bras—>  here, here and here.

Shorts—>  here. have been my favorites and they have stretched nicely!

A lot of my warm weather gear has stretched quite nicely too so I could wear them during pregnancy—>  here, here, herehere, here and here

Next pregnancy I am buying one of these cozy bump maternity pillows.

————————————————————————————-

Where have you found great maternity active wear?  Or did you find tops that were longer that worked well?

Use any creams etc that helped with itchy skin?!

Moms reading… did you deliver early, right on time or after your due date?

Janae, if the itching is more than just tight skin, or becomes a lot .ask your doctor. Sometimes Pregnancy itching is a sign of a liver condition.

THANK YOU for the heads up Judi! I really appreciate it! I will keep a close eye on it! I hope you are having a wonderful day!

I was really itchy when i was pregnant too. I really liked using tummy butter from palmers. I honestly don’t think it helps stretch marks but it felt good on the itchy skin.

My daughter will be 6 months old next week and I still wear that Target maternity sweatshirt ALL THE TIME!

I went into labor on my due date, but didn’t deliver until the next day.

Not pregnant, never have been but I do suffer from itchy skin all winter. I use Curel anti itch lotion. I’ve tried other products with no success. This works amazingly though and I highly reccomend.

Have you checked out pumpingessentials.com? You input the insurance that you have and they display the pumps that are available to you. You order it from them and they deal with your insurance directly so it’s super easy. It’s always good to have a spare pump available! I think I ordered from them and my pump was shipped within a week!

9 Days late with my first and 13 Days late with my second! My 2nd came a whole lot quicker than my first! Make sure you ask for that epidural as soon as you feel necessary this 2nd time. I kept holding out and then finally asked and 20 minutes later my son was born…he was 9lbs, 2oz and my epidural never made it to me!! I felt everythinggggg hahaha

OH WOW KRYSTAL!!! I was thinking about that the other day… I bet this one will come fast once I do go into labor! Great tip, thank you (I was a big fan of my epidural last time)! 9 lbs 2 oz… wow!

When I was pregnant I had pupps which lead to 4-5 months of insane itching. My dermatologist told me to use sarna, you can buy it from Wal-Mart it instantly stopped itching. It was the only way I survived my pregnancy itches.

WOW, that is a LONG time to be itching so badly! I’m so glad that worked so well for you, thank you for sharing! I will have to check it out!!! Have a great day Jillian!

Well, if you have 44 days until you meet your little girl I only have 43! I need to get moving. Her nursery isn’t even done….it’s probably time to take the crib out of the box!

The only thing that helped my itchy belly was Burt’s Bees Mama Bee Belly Butter: https://www.amazon.com/Burts-Bees-Belly-Butter-Ounces/dp/B00DM14TYC/ref=sr_1_1_sspa?ie=UTF8&qid=1509624244&sr=8-1-spons&keywords=burt%27s+bees+belly&psc=1. Smells good and is so thick and amazing. I need to actually order another one!

My first daughter came 3 weeks early….thinking that makes me even more anxious this little one could be coming really, really soon! I’ve said a few times I think she will come on her sister’s original due date, which was November 25.

I haven’t done much in the way of maternity active wear, I just shoved my leggings under my belly and my tops were long enough. I had sports bras left from last time I was pregnant and pulled those out. I did want to add though, that for those expecting mamas who are working full time and need to dress up a bit, Lularoe leggings have been a lifesaver for me. They’re so soft and comfy, push down right under my belly, and paired with some cheapo maternity tunics from amazon, I’m seriously comfortable all day!

Reply

Thank you so much for the link and I am off to Target today to get it! Oh wow, yes… you might be even closer than 43 days! That is so exciting Sara! Good to know about the Lularoe leggings, thank you! I hope you are feeling great today and I am so excited for you. Keep me updated on everything!

Reply

Get Old Navy to send you some of their maternity active wear. It’s so great!I was just mad I hadn’t put it on earlier. Support is the name of the game for running :)

Reply

BRILLIANT!! I’ve heard great things about their maternity active line I just hate spending the $$ on maternity stuff ha… but it really is so worth it! Thanks Veronica and I hope you are having a beautiful day!

Reply

I love this stuff to keep your belly itch free and so soft! https://www.palmers.com/cocoa-butter-formula/25-massage-lotion-for-stretch-marks.html

I mostly wear non-pregnancy active-wear while pregnant, just longer items like you mentioned. I found some of the pregnancy active-wear tops are too wide! Although, this pregnancy the baby is sitting MUCH lower than my last so I’m not sure my tops are going to make it to the end!

You will love the My Brest Friend, so much better than the Boppy for nursing in my opinion.

Reply

THANK YOU FOR THE LINK SARA!!! Good to hear about My Brest Friend, I didn’t not like my Boppy but I am excited for a better option! Thank you and keep me updated with how this pregnancy is going for you:) Have an amazing day!

With my first, I knew she was due August 8th – I didn’t get married until I was almost 35 so we wanted to get pregnant as quickly as possible so we used an Ovulation Predictor Kit which thankfully we good because it turned out I wasn’t ovulating until Day 22. But the doctor always insisted I was due on July 31 based on the date of my last period and she was always measuring big (she was 9 lb 3 oz when she was born). So as soon as July 31 passed they started talking about induction which I really didn’t want – I had not even had Braxton-Hicks at all. I refused, but said we would talk about it at my August 7th appointment. Sunday August 6th the doctor called and really wanted to schedule the induction – at that point I was done and it was almost 100 degrees so I agreed. 12 hours later my water broke and she was born the day before (barely) her due date.

With #2, since I had had a c-section, her head was 95th %, and I was 38 1/2, we decided on a planned c-section, so he was born at 39w1d (and weighted 9 lb, 6 oz – a week later, I can’t even imagine how much he would weigh!).

Reply

9 lb 3 oz & 9 lb 6 oz!!! WOW, that is really interesting that your ovulation date was later in your cycle too! Love that she was born the day before her due date:) Thanks for sharing Jessey! I love hearing everyone’s experience. Enjoy your day!

I loved Burt’s Bees Belly Butter for my itchy belly! Also about the breast pump – just know that yours could be totally fine BUT also they’re meant for one person to use for about a year of heavier use, maybe 2-3 of lighter use – and older ones can have the motor break down over time. So if you notice any issues pumping that’s one of the first things an LC would ask about. You CAN find good deals on them occasionally – I love my Spectra S2, I only pump once a day but I do think it’s the best out there – and Black Friday you might be able to get a deal!

Reply

REALLY!?!?! I did not know this at all… THANK YOU Alyssa! I will have mine looked at and if it isn’t great then I’ll check out a Black Friday deal. Thank you for telling me about this!

Reply

No problem! It is absolutely not common knowledge but my friend who’s on #2 mentioned it to me… she had a 3 year old pump, and she didn’t pump much with kid #1 because kid didn’t like bottles, but it actually had broken down a little and she needed a new one!

Reply

Ahhh my sister gifted me little poppy bows for my shower. I am obsessed!! And when my girl was born with a TON of hair, so I switched to th alligator clips. So so cute.

Reply

Oh really!? I might have to do that too… Brooke had a lot of hair. Thanks Lora and I hope you are having a great day with your little girl!

Reply

I was 4 cm dilated by week 37, so the doctor figured I would go early. Nope! I had to be induced at week 41 because baby girl refused to budge. She’s now 3 weeks old.

Reply

CONGRATS COLLEEN on your new little girl:) I am so happy for you! Oh wow… that is crazy that she waited so long even though you were 4 cm dilated. She just wanted to come on her own time ha. I hope you are feeling well and getting in a lot of snuggling!

Reply

Girllll… let me tell you. Get Burts Bee’s Mama Bee Oil. It is at Target. Lather that stuff on with your lotion… it absorbs into the skin very quickly. I hate itchy skin (dry), so I used this stuff religiously when pregnant and it was the best thing I had.

My little dude (6m) came at 36 weeks! I literally could not believe it when my water broke as I was getting dressed for work. But he measured big my entire pregnancy. Several weeks ahead and I said the entire time, I would not make it to 40 weeks. He was born at 36 weeks at 7lbs 4 oz and 20 inches long. The NICU team in the delivery room was like “Holy cow! You don’t need us! See ya later!”

I second the nursing bras. They are absolute heaven and adjust to your body changes. If we continued to buy regular bras during pregnancy, it would cost a fortune because, man, every day it changes.

Reply

That stuff sounds amazing, I am going to Target today to try it. THANK YOU! This little one is measuring big too so I wonder if she will come early too! Imagine how big he would have been if he came at 40 weeks… WOW! Yes, you are so right about nursing bras… that would be $$$! I hope your day is a beautiful one and thanks again for the recommendation!

A week before my daughter was born, my doctor gave me a pep talk about how I was 34 weeks, she was a good size, if I were to go into labor they wouldn’t stop it because he wouldn’t at all be worried about coming at that point. Fast forward to Saturday night and I’m in the hospital and the nurses are saying “we don’t think she’s coming anytime soon but if she did we wouldn’t be worried…” Fast forward to Sunday night and my water broke and we are heading back to the hospital forrealz. LOL She was born at 35w1d and absolutely perfect. The only “problem” was she had a little bit of jaundice and had to hang out in the bili bed for a day. Looking back on it, I know God was sending me those pep talks so I wouldn’t be (too) scared when she was born early. :)

Reply

Oh WOW!!! She decided to join you early! I got goosebumps reading what you said about those pep talks coming from God to help you so you wouldn’t be afraid! Thanks for sharing Joy!!

Burt’s Bees Mama Bee Belly Butter. Ahhhhmazing!
Go buy it NOW! I still use it even not preggers!

You’ve convinced me. Off to Target today. THANK YOU Bridgette!

I had the worst itchy belly with my second! I used coconut oil! It worked great!

Reply

THANK YOU KIMI for sharing! I can’t believe how itchy I am this time around, much different than with Brooke! I hope your day is going great so far!

Reply

I didn’t get super itchy but I used burts bees belly oil and that felt good to rub on my belly. My baby was almost two weeks late, it was tough! They thought he would be early because he was super low and head down from about 32 weeks on, but he was super comfortable and in no hurry. I wanted to work right up until my due date but by about 8-9 days late my BP was getting a bit high so I decided to call it and hang out until he arrived. The poor person at work who when I told them it was my last day asked “so your just going to hang out until you are due?” I think I bit their head off saying I was due 9 days ago! Lots can be forgiven for what you say when your over due!

Activewear – I just wore the same shorts/tights, sized up in my bra and running jacket, shirts and tanks still fit no problem for my pregnancy.

Best cream for itching EVER: Babyganics Non-Petroleum Soothing Protective Ointment. It is really thick, but stays put, great for dry skin anywhere.

My son was late. 6 days late. But we wanted him to be early. 3 weeks early. So it felt like he was a month late. And because I had to be back at work on a certain date, I ended up with 7.5 weeks of mternity leave instead of the 12 I was hoping for. One day, I might forgive him…
I am very proud of Brooke for being so early :)

Thanks for posting this- I’m going to bookmark it for a few months out. I’m 11 weeks and already worried about what will fit. Thank!

Like a lot of others have mentioned, Palmers Cocoa Butter Oil is was my go to for itchy skin during my pregnancy a few months ago! My son was born pretty much right on time, at 40w 1d (although by that point I felt about 18374 weeks pregnant and wished he had arrived a lot sooner lol!)

Also, Andrew contemplating getting that shirt cracks me up since my husband has a silly sense of humour and I bought it for him when I found out I was pregnant. I gave it to him as a surprise, then he wore it to each of our parents’ houses to break the news!

Reply

My belly got super itchy the last few weeks as well! I had a friend suggest Cocoa Butter. I didn’t really have issues with stretch marks, but the butter was very moisturizing!

Try coconut oil for your itchy belly. It worked miracles on mine!

Reply

Oh man, I had the itchy belly so bad too! With both pregnancies I was constantly scratching my belly, it’s so attractive :)

I actually started making a body balm that I’ve gifted to a few pregnant friends since. It has coconut oil, mango butter, olive oil, and some beeswax in it. Feels great. I sell it on my etsy page too (just no lavender for pregnant ladies! Conflicting advice about whether it can stimulate labor). http://www.etsy.com/shop/barncatcreations. I’ve also heard the Burt’s Bees is amazing, though I don’t have experience :)

Reply

If you are looking for a steroid-free cream, I love Aveeno’s eczema relief cream…if it’s really bad, using OTC hydrocortisone should be fine in the short term…and if it’s really really bad, see if your doc will prescribe triamcinolone cream ;)

Let me preface by saying I have never been pregnant. BUT, this cream/salve has been my life saver for all things itchy and dry.

Kuumba Made Herbal Healing Salve 2oz

Oh – and I’m also really sensitive to smells and this does not smell at all. AND it would be good for post-pregnancy too! Feet, face, etc.

Reply

Hi Janae! I have NO advice on creams to help with itchy skin because mine was the worst and nothing helped. My only advice – do not give in to the urge to scratch. Every time it started bugging me I just put more cocoa butter on it and I think mentally that made me feel better although I’m sure it still itched.

As far as maternity workout gear, I bought a Danskin Now tank from Walmart for $5 that was exactly like a maternity top! I ended up wearing it to the hospital and then home from the hospital and it fit perfect both ways :)

My baby came 3 days after her due date and my water broke exactly 24 hours before I was scheduled to be induced!

Reply

I was 40+5 when I had Kason. And I probably wouldn’t have had him on my own if it hadn’t been for my doula who helped me with going into labor naturally.

I have really loved the swaddle love for Kason. It keeps their hands up near their head so they can comfort themselves. I found it on amazon.

Reply

Save the receipts on the swaddles. I think they work for most babies. However, I got those exact ones and my son absolutely hated them. He would turn bright red and rock around trying to free himself as a newborn. We ended up just using swaddle blankets because I could swaddle him with his hands up near his face but his legs free which made him happier and he slept better (=happier mommy).

Reply

If you’re itchy just on your belly, you don’t need to worry. It’s just the skin stretching. If you feel itchy everywhere, mention it to your doctor. But I’m sure it’s the former in which case I recommend the Eucerin anti-stretchmark oil. My belly gets itchy like crazy so I use this in the morning and before bed and it helps a lot! I even wrote a post about it on my blog :)
Love the shirt btw, I’m seriously considering getting one for my hubby as well! :D

Would you by chance consider a HRG Baby post with the products that you have purchased in preparation for baby girl? Bassinet, swaddles, stroller, monitor, bottles, carriers, etc. Also anything you’ve purchased in preparation for post-partum – nursing bras/tanks, pump, etc. I’m due at the end of February and started thinking about these things. Just wondering what you’ve chosen to buy!

Reply

Hi Kim,
Congrats! I am so excited for you!! I would love to do a post about that. That is a great idea! Expect it on HRG baby in the next week or two. Have a great day!

Late to the party, but I thought I would put in my two cents…

I agree with the Burt’s Bees everyone mentioned.
I still use it for extremely dry skin.
My first baby was 14 days late, my second was 12 days late, my third was 2 weeks early (induced) and 10 pounds 15 ounces!!!! Crazy!
No explanation. They come when they want to.
