Which pain? + 2 debates I need your opinion on + she makes me feel more normal + the winner!

Good morning!  I hope your week is off to a great start.  The highlight of my day yesterday was a shopping trip with my mom to go look at baby stuff.  I’m feeling more and more ready for this little girl to get here and Brooke loves being involved in the process of ’nesting’!

A few things to discuss from my run yesterday:

IMG 9516

1.  When I do my entire run outside (like I did yesterday) I now run to a park that has a loop around it and run there… because they have a restroom and I am positive that at this point in pregnancy my bladder is the size of a Cheerio.

2.  Long story short… the other day I accidentally left my wireless headphones on the grass of a park.  I realized the next morning that they were missing so I went searching for them and boom, they were still there and I felt so beyond lucky.  The real magic was that they still worked too after being outside overnight in the freezing temps (and maybe even some sprinklers during the day).  I lucked out.  I lose a lot of things and need to work on that.

3.  Annie recommended the podcast, Real Talk with Nicole Antionette (the episode with Lauren Freshman), for me to listen to and it was SO good.  Lauren said that she would be fired for how many naps she has taken during her second pregnancy if she worked for somebody else and I am pretty sure I would be too with this pregnancy.  It was so refreshing to hear Lauren’s experience with pregnancy/life/everything because this stuff is hard (not for every pregnancy and every person but it is for a lot)!  She made me feel more normal:)

4.  While running I realized that from now until the baby is born is pretty much exactly how long Andrew and I dated for—>  Just about 8 weeks (from first date to marriage:)

5.  My battery died on my watch yesterday but because runners know exact distances to their home from anywhere within a few miles (and I know the distance of the loop I was doing at the park too)… I had my own little brain GPS going.  I finished with around 7.3 miles but I have no idea what my pace was because the lack of a watch.

6.  I saw this on IG… This is a great thing to think about when I am wanting to quit during a hard workout/long run etc.  Sure there is pain that comes along with the fast workouts or getting out of bed to run when we don’t want to but I like that kind of pain a lot more than the pain that comes from not doing the work to reach our goals.  So if you need a new thing to think about when the going gets tough on your run, think about which pain is worse for you…

I came home to find Brooke working on some homework (she sure missed school during fall break).

IMG 9478

Later on in the afternoon we went to the park for a little bit…

IMG 9534

And then she zonked out (too much partying with Knox the last few days) for our doctor’s appointment.  The baby is doing great and growing like a champ.  These appointments every two weeks seem to come fast now!

IMG E9557

We were both pretty exhausted after the doctor’s appointment too.  Early evening is rough…

IMG 9567

Andrew put together dinner and made this stroganoff (with turkey instead of beef) and it hit the spot.  Pasta tends to do that for me these days.

IMG 9570

Followed by frozen Andes mints.  There are certain candies that I think taste even better frozen and this is one of them.  Other candy that is delicious frozen:  Milky Way, Charleston Chews, Junior Mints, Swedish Fish (I might be the only person that thinks this) and pb cups.

Of course, I have to share a few things from our Sunday to share too!

IMG 9429

IMG 9470

Maybe just our kids are like this but they actually enjoy being tickled.  Being tickled is one of my least favorite things on the planet but our kids love it… any other kids like this?

DSC09490

We went over to my sister’s house for dinner and she made her BBQ pizza (our kids just have cheese pizza there because they do not have my extreme obsession for bbq sauce).

DSC09504

My sister asked us to bring dessert and I couldn’t make up my mind on what to bring so I brought two things.  One that I knew my dad would love (pumpkin cookies with cinnamon chips ((we used butterscotch chips because we couldn’t find cinnamon chips)),

DSC09501

And one I knew I would love (apples are life to me right now)!  I used this apple crisp recipe (the recipe has a lot of sugar which I think it doesn’t actually need but overall it tasted great).

DSC09517

My sister’s older kids got back from their Dad’s house a little bit before dessert which Brooke was thrilled about:)  This might not make sense but I am really grateful that Brooke and Knox have each other and other kids in their lives that also ‘get’ the blended family stuff.  I know it isn’t easy for them to do the back and forth stuff but I feel really lucky that they have a great little support system even if they are all young!

PS we don’t have both kids this weekend and Andrew will be gone at a lab for a good chunk of the weekend so I am just going to go ahead and say that I will probably sleep a lot this weekend;)

Two very important food related debates that Andrew and I have been having and I would love to hear your opinion (and help us settle these arguments):

When you buy bread, do you put it in the pantry or the fridge?

-I always put it in the fridge but Andrew thinks that it goes in the pantry.

Almond Joys:  Delicious or the opposite of delicious?

-I think delicious, Andrew thinks they are awful.

Ever freeze candy (or other things that most people don’t normally freeze but you think it is delicious)?  What?

Ever lost anything important on a run?  Ever find anything cool on a run?

I lost my library card recently (Benaiah dropped it out of the stroller) and have yet to find it. And I am with you on the bread in the fridge! I think it keeps it fresher, longer! I am so excited for your, only eight weeks left!! Hopefully, these next 8 weeks will fly by :)

Reply

Bread always goes in the pantry unless we already have a full loaf, and then it temporarily goes in the freezer. It’s funny b/c I’ve NEVER EVER considered putting bread in the fridge. Hmmmmm. I guess it’s not a BAD idea! lol I think what our parents did growing up for us is just the norm for each of us!

ha ha We’re opposites today–not a fan of Almond Joy, but I like your views on candy to freeze! Aren’t Charleston Chews the best?! I love “classic” candy like that. Halloween is the best b/c candies like those, 100 Grands, and Milk Duds magically appear :) One candy NOT good frozen or on ice cream is Good and Plentys. They become hard as rocks. Gummy bears on ice cream are yummy though!

Last summer I left my WALLET on a fence post near my running trail. I drove to the cafe for a drink, realized I didn’t have my money, panicked, flew back in my car, and by the grace of God, my wallet was still there. HUGE SIGH OF RELIEF.

Have the best Tuesday EVER, Janae!!!

Reply

Oh I don’t even like Good and Plentys normally haha! I totally agree with you on Charleston Chews!
I AM SO HAPPY that your wallet was still there, I bet you were sweating bullets on the drive back! Hahaha now that I have read everyone’s comments I think I’m the weird one with the bread in the fridge thing. I don’t know why I do it… I don’t even think my parents did when we were growing up:) I hope your day is amazing too Jen! I LOVE your comments!

Reply

1. Bread in fridge
2. Almond Joys – yes but I pick out the almond. I like almonds but nuts have next to no place in desserts (the only exception is pecan pie).
I like to freeze chocolate chip cookies. They’re really good cold! And I agree with the pb cups!
Have a great day Janae! Off to meet a co-worker for a run before work :) and yes it’s freezing. I’m only still running outside because of her. I’m a wimp.

Reply

I do love almond joys. And peppermint patties in the freezer are delicious!

I put bread in my fridge if I know I won’t be able to eat it within a week. But I prefer not to.

I photographed a wedding last weekend and they paid me $500 cash in an envelope and I lost it! I haven’t got over it yet. I keep checking my camera bag and my car over and over for the envelope and it hasn’t turned up. I was a bit frazzled trying to pack up and get on the road before dark so I guess I dropped it. :(

Reply

Oh my goodness! How awful. I’m saying a prayer that it’s returned to you.

Reply

NOOOO SALLY!!! Oh my goodness, I am so so sorry about this. That is awful!!! Thinking about you and I really hope you find it today!

When we lived in Houston we would store our bread in the fridge. It was so hot and humid there that I felt like the bread would get moldy faster of I left it out. Now that we live in Connecticut, we don’t have that issue, so I leave the bead in the pantry (actually in our house it goes on top of the microwave lol)!

Reply

I’ve never put bread in the refrigerator, but some of my friends do. I don’t like it to be cold, and I don’t want to heat it up, so it’s the pantry for me.

And I’ve never frozen Swedish Fish, but I really want to try that now! I’ve frozen gummy bears a few times, and I always freeze some of my grapes because they are SO GOOD that way! My mom taught us that when we were kids, and I’ve been doing it since. :)

Reply

Bread in the pantry, almond joy is yucky and freeze all the chocolate!

Usually the cool things I “find” on a run are wildlife – I run a lot of trails so I am always looking for critters or new plants / trees. Just found a truly scary looking tree this weekend that I found out was called a honey locust – you must look up a photo of it’s spiked trunk. Needless to say I wasn’t running when they were close to the trail. Far too clutsy for that.

Reply

OH wow… yeah that trunk is FREAKY! I wouldn’t go near that either:) Send over your almond joys please and I hope you have an amazing day Suzanne!

Reply

I just want to know how such a wicked looking tree has such a pleasant sounding name! Almond Joys will be held in your name :)

Reply

Hahahah you are so right and THANK YOU!!

Reply

Almond joys are my favorite! Especially Mounds since it’s dark chocolate

I put 90% of my candy in the freezer. I also like brownies and chocolate chip cookies in the freezer. OH, and those white-ish sugar cookies with the pink frosting and sprinkles from the bakery area of the grocery store. I bet you’ll know what I’m talking about because we are kindred spirits when it comes to sugar. THOSE are SO GOOD frozen.

I put bread in the fridge!

Reply

Almond Joys are delicious…..and if I buy two loaves I put one in the freezer and one in my bread drawer…..other wise, if I don’t need it asap always the freezer first??? Don’t know why but it unthaws just perfectly in a day and it works for us. ;-)

Reply

I put bread in the fridge too! I just assume it helps it last longer, and it takes me awhile to get through it.
Not a fan of Almond Joys.
My favorite candy to freeze is sour patch kids or, even better, the sour patch fruits. Somehow they taste even better frozen (and I like to think that helps me limit my consumption…).
The only thing I’ve ever lost on a run was my house key that somehow fell off of the clip it was on inside my flip belt and popped out somewhere along my route… a 10 mile route that I was NOT repeating! Luckily my mom came to my rescue with her spare key. I found $20 on a run once… that was nice! Wish I found money every time I ran!

Reply

Your pic of the Andes Candies reminded me of these “Andes ravioli cookies” I found in a cookie cookbook my aunt gave me. They are so awesome!

I think this is the recipe:

Reply

THANK YOU for the recipe Victoria, that sounds absolutely perfect. I need. I hope you are having a beautiful day!

Reply

You are very welcome! They are pretty tasty and look really good on a cookie tray.

I also like secret kiss cookies if you have ever had those. Haha I’m probably making the pregnant woman crave cookies now.

Reply

You sure are… thank you for that:) Time to go make some haha!

Reply

I put bread in the FREEZER! That way it lasts so much longer (obviously), and it takes me a long time to finish a loaf of bread. When you’re ready just take a slice and put it right in the toaster and it’s as good as new!

Almond joys = delicious.

Years ago when I was on my first ever 18-mile run I managed to lose my debit card and ID, even though they were in a zipped pocket. I never found them again! How they got lost remains a mystery…

Reply

I am with you – frozen peanut butter cups are the best! I also love apple crisp, and I usually cut the sugar whenever I make it because I don’t think it’s necessary either. But sometimes some brown sugar on top to make a little crust is delicious…. :)

We typically put bread in the fridge, unless we are going to eat it like right away. I do not like almond joys at all! I freeze grapes all the time – I think they taste a million times better that way. And once in a great while I will be craving ice cream or a popsicle and choose the frozen grapes instead and then I feel super proud of myself haha

Reply

I’m with Andrew on this one., bread in the pantry.
Lost money out of my shorts running. Took it to get water or a treat half way through……and then nothing. :(

Reply

Definitely bread in the pantry! If you don’t eat it quickly, you can always freeze it, but putting it in the fridge will dry it out and I like my bread all squooshy.

I’ve recently been making my own bread, and because it has no preservatives, it needs to be frozen a lot faster. I tend to wind up with a lot of bread odds and ends in the freezer, and then it’s time to make a savory bread pudding. Yum. We’re just about there now…..

Reply

It depends on the bread! I get Ezekiel bread for me which is found in the refrigerated section so I put it in the fridge or freezer. When we get “regular” shelf bread, I put it in the pantry!
I don’t really care for coconut stuff so I’ll have to pass on the Almond Joy. When I was a kid, I would lick the chocolate, separate the almond, and get rid of the coconut lol.
We don’t freeze candy unless it gets “melty” then it’s fair game. Although my husband always freezes his Twinkies. Not candy but still weird to me.
Luckily, I’ve never lost anything on a run. I don’t carry much and I rely on my flip belt and bra over pockets!

Reply

I leave bread out on the counter…is that bad? And I love Almond Joys! I need to make that Apple Crisp ;) bring on the sugar!
We always freeze chocolate candy – my husband can’t stand if it’s melted.
I’m exhausted in the early evenings too :)
Great job on your running, I can’t believe your little girl will be here so soon! You sure lucked out with your headphones!

Reply

Definitely bread on the pantry – I find it gets dry in the fridge. My husband and I have these little disagreements all the time. He thinks tomatoes and peanut butter go in the fridge and I have a different opinion. Unless the peanut butter is natural there is no need and it is impossible to spread and tomatoes get mealy. It is funny how habits you pick up from your childhood stay with you!
We don’t have almond joy bars in Canada but we have bounty bars, which are similar. I loved them when I was a kid but since my mid 20s chocolate bars have not been appealing at all, except PB cups. I don’t know if my tastes changed or what but I don’t feel any cravings for milk chocolate.

Reply

Bread always goes in the fridge & sweet potato skins are the best part of the potato!!!

Reply

Bread in the fridge (unless I plan to use it right away, then pantry is ok), and almond joys are the best!! I like to get Scandinavian swimmers (TJ’s version of swedish fish) and freeze them! They taste sooo good!

I luckily havent lost anything on a run, but once I found a blank CD. When I played it I actually found some songs on it that I had never heard before but loved!

Reply

Bread storage: pantry (or countertop in my house)! Storing in the fridge can develop the sugars and dry out the bread a bit (https://lifehacker.com/5832516/store-bread-at-room-temperature-not-in-the-fridge-for-six-times-the-freshness). Some of the sprouted breads (like Ezekiel or Dave’s Killer Bread) are meant to be stored in the fridge or freezer since they don’t have as many preservatives (http://www.thekitchn.com/do-i-need-to-refrigerate-fresh-sprouted-bread-229309) but like regular bread can dry out if stored in the fridge. :-D

Reply

INTERESTING article… thank you Alison! We pretty much only buy Dave’s Killer Bread so I guess the fridge thing works well:) Thanks for sharing! I hope you have an amazing day!

Reply

I grew up putting bread in the fridge, but my husband got me to using a bread box – but sometimes we have too much bread to fit in it so we leave it on top and if we use the under-cabinet lighting it gets really hot and moldy :(

Almond Joys – heaven, but only at Halloween.

My husband loves to freeze candy – I don’t get it! There isn’t as much flavor :(

Reply

Bread goes in the pantry or on the counter. My dad used to put it in the freezer and it drove me nuts.
Almond Joys – ick.
I don’t freeze candy
My kids loved to be tickled and so do I. Both my son and I are so ticklish that if we are really giggly you can just point your finger at us and we will both die laughing like we are being tickled.

Reply

BAHAHAH yes… Andrew is the same way! I just have to pretend I’m going to tickle him and he starts giggling, I love that you and your son are like that too! Send any almond joys you get over to me please!

Reply

Bread goes in the fridge!
Almond Joys are so good! I love chocolate and coconut together!
I freeze junior mints, peppermint patties, and milky ways! So yummy!
I am not a fan of being tickled either! Why do kids like it so much???

Reply

Current loaf of bread on the counter, extra loaves in the freezer (we go through ~3 a week). And Almond Joys are great.
Brownies are great straight from the freezer and…funny story…pecan pie. I am the only one in my family who likes it so one Thanksgiving I got the Costco one with the brilliant idea to freeze it in slices so I had pie through New Year’s. Ha! I think the whole giant pie was gone in two weeks.

Reply

We leave the bread out. When I got a bread machine and bought a bread book, they say that the fridge makes the bread go stale faster so room temperature or freezing is best. :) I love almond joy! We like to freeze our cheesecake and eat it slightly thawed. I didn’t want to enter the giveaway but congrats on your 7th year blog anniversary! I’ve been reading since way before you were pregnant…when you were a teacher. I’m going to be very sad if you ever stop blogging! Glad everything looks good with the baby! Have a great day Janae!

Reply

REALLY… that is interesting! Well, looks like I need to start doing the room temperature or freezing thing! Okay, your frozen cheesecake idea sounds so good. Thank you so so much Marie for your sweet comment and for reading over the years. It means the world to me! Keep in touch!

We actually have a bread box (similar to this https://www.amazon.com/Bread-Storage-Box-Stainless-Construction/dp/B06XPK3WNF/ref=sr_1_4_sspa?s=kitchen&ie=UTF8&qid=1508853300&sr=1-4-spons&keywords=bread+box&psc=1 but ours is white) It keeps the bread fresh for a long time!

I love Almond Joy.

I have really sensitive teeth so I don’t freeze anything that isn’t normally frozen.

I found a 20 dollar bill while out running in Waikiki once. And I have lost more than one pair of sunglasses.

Reply

Oh I like that bread box… that would be the perfect compromise for ours:) Oh I have lost a few pairs of sunglasses too!! Kathy, I hope you are having a beautiful day!

Reply

Bread goes in the pantry (or the freezer if you aren’t going to eat right away).
H and I used to argue about how to store syrup. I always put in the fridge. He said it belongs in the pantry. His family always had grocery store syrup instead of maple syrup…you have to refrigerate real maple syrup. We both won this debate!!
Not a big fan of the Almond Joy :(
Once I lost my sunglasses in my front yard. I was lying down trying to take pics in the leaves. I was very happy to find them the next day!! And so thankful the leaves hadn’t been raked :)

Reply

I prefer bread in the pantry but if it’s in there too long it starts to mold so, for longevity’s sake, I put it in the fridge.

Nothing beats frozen grapes!

As long as you don’t lose the kids you’re doing good!

Reply

Bread goes in the cabinet but in Arizona, it gets moldy 10x faster so it needs to get used up QUICK. I would put it in the fridge but not everyone likes it that way (my bf).

I love Almond Joy!

Reply

The fridge makes the bread last longer as far as mild goes but can also dry it out. I usually freeze a loaf and keep one out to eat.

Reply

I always put bread in the fridge (and sometimes even the freezer) unless I am planning on using it right away! And Almond Joys are DELICIOUS!!

I actually love refrigerated pb cups more than when they’re frozen!! Try it :)

Reply

Bread in the pantry. Almond Joys – yes. And way off topic, but where did you get the sweater/jacket you are wearing in the picture of you and Brooke on the couch. So cute!!!

Reply

Hey Susan! Thank you! I got it at this boutique a few years ago… they have the cutest stuff! Enjoy your day!

Reply

I always put bread in the fridge, otherwise it’s doesn’t last as long.

I don’t like Almond Joy or Mounds. Not a big coconut candy fan.

I do like pepppermint candy frozen (York peppermint patty, junior mints). I could never eat anything chewy like Swedish fish or gummy bears frozen, I think I would break my teeth!

Reply

Good call on the frozen york peppermint patty… I need to do that asap! I hope you have a beautiful day Laura!

Reply

I put bread in the pantry but English muffins and bagels in the fridge.
I love frozen Reeses and also frozen grapes.

NO to almond joys…

Reply

We always put bread in the pantry, so I’m with Andrew in this one.

Reply

Bread goes straight in the fridge! I go in spurts as far as how much and how fast I eat bread. Fridge ensures that it won’t go bad as fast.

I love frozen Milky Ways, York Peppermint Patties, and even Swedish Fish. I always keep a batch of homemade cookie dough in the freezer because my husband and I have a tradition of having pizookies every Saturday night. It’s also nice to have some frozen dough on hand for a quick sweet tooth fix :)

Reply

Brilliant idea with the frozen cookie dough… yep, I need to join your pizookie tradition (and frozen dough for a tread tradition;)! Thanks Amanda!

Reply

When you buy bread, do you put it in the pantry or the fridge?
I put it in the pantry (actually on the counter). I have heard of freezing bread but always think it won’t be as good… hmmm…

Almond Joys: Delicious or the opposite of delicious?
They are ok… my boyfriend doesn’t like coconut so I guess I always get to eat them if we get any. :)

Ever freeze candy (or other things that most people don’t normally freeze but you think it is delicious)? What?
I L.O.V.E frozen snickers! They are the best snack! My paternal grandpa used to always have frozen snickers as a treat for us when we visited and that is where my love of them comes from. He is no longer with us (long time already now) but I always think about him when I have them. I get a bag of the fun size ones but they always disappear in about a week… But I got my boyfriend hooked on them too. :)

Ever lost anything important on a run? Ever find anything cool on a run?
I have not lost anything that I can remember losing, but one time I did find a bunch of fake red flowers that I now keep in my house! :)

Reply

I love your memory of your grandpa and his frozen snickers:) Thanks for sharing Emily! I’ll take your Almond Joys if you guys don’t want them! I hope you have a beautiful day!

Reply

I read a while ago that putting bread in the fridge dries it out. So, if you are going to go through the loaf quickly the pantry is best. We go through bread really slowly so we actually keep loaves in the freezer! And Almond Joys (or anything with coconut)- GROSS!!
I prefer PB cups in the freezer. A friend of mine loves the seasonal Reese’s cups so much (i.e. PB pumpkins at this time of year) that he stocks up when they’re on clearance and keeps them in his freezer so he basically has them year round.

Reply

That is really interesting Kris, thank you for telling me about that. I don’t want dried out bread! I want a year round supply of the pb pumpkins in my freezer too… that is such a good idea:) I hope your day is an amazing one Kris!

Reply

Putting bread in the fridge does something to it’s taste and it seems to dry out faster. It goes in the pantry or freezer here. (we don’t eat bread quickly enough before it would mold, hence freezing it).

I lose stuff fairly regularly but I usually find it. I haven’t lost anything important on a run, though. I did find $40 one morning! (and no one was around). I also found nice gloves but I found the owner and returned them.

I like Almond Joys, although Bounty bars were better imo.

Girl Scouts Thin Mint cookies are the best when frozen.

Reply

My bread goes either in the freezer (Ezekiel bread) or the pantry. It’s so hot here that if I put the bread in the fridge, it’d get super soggy from rapid heating/cooling and condensation!

Almond joys are delicious!!

I love a cold candy bar — especially something like a kit kat! YUM!

I’ve found some pretty cool stuff while out on a run: a $20 bill, someone’s lost phone charger, lots of slugs/bugs/critters, and even someone’s car keys!

Reply

When I buy bread, I put it in the breadbasket on the counter. No pantry, and I feel like the fridge makes it stale.

Almond Joys are Delicious.

I used to freeze thin mints and found that eating them frozen made them a bit more refreshing so I needed a bit less milk.

I keep thinking I will lose one of my air buds but so far they stay in my ears!

I don’t think I have found something on a run that I’ve brought home…

Reply

-Pantry.
-DELICIOUS! A favorite of mine.
-Hm…cookies?
-I haven’t lost anything, but I usually just find spare change. And as a side note, can I just give a shout out to Utah on this point? I swear (at least the neighborhood I live in), you can leave stuff out/lose something and everyone knows that some one will be looking for it and they’ll leave it alone. I’ve left my purse in a shopping cart (twice!) before and people turned it in without taking stuff. My son dropped his allowance in a store parking lot once and sure enough someone turned it in. People in Iowa are like this too. Yay for kind and honest folks!

Happy Tuesday, Janae!

Reply

I am totally going to join you on the Utah shout out:) That is so great that people have turned in your purse and your son’s allowance! I’ve done that too and left my ipad random places and I go back and it is still there! I hope your day is an amazing one and you are so right about freezing cookies, delicious!

Hi, Janae!

First, last night, we watched the Breaking2 documentary that you shared – holy cow. How amazing was that?! I think I’m still so in awe of those men. What incredible athletes. During my run this morning, I kept thinking that they were running SO much faster and for 26.2 miles. I couldn’t even imagine. Wow. Thank you for sharing that!

Second, since you like peanut butter cups – have you tried Justin’s dark chocolate peanut butter cups? Oh my gosh. They are SO good frozen. We put all our candy in the freezer or in the fridge no matter what. It just makes it better!

Have a great day!

Reply

Oh Chelsea, I am so happy that you loved the documentary, so incredible. I have not tried those yet… guess I need to buy some today! THANK YOU!!

Reply

Bread always in the fridge, and LOVE Almond Joys and frozen Reeses:) Have a fabulous day!!

Reply

I learned to keep chocolate mint candy in the freezer from my Dad and grandpa. Thanks for mentioning something that brings up happy memories!

I prefer to keep bread in the pantry but it goes in the fridge a lot to stay fresh since we don’t use it a lot.

Reply

When my husband and I first moved in together, we had the bread in the fridge/pantry debate. He put it in the fridge and I keep it in the pantry. Eventually I won.
I love frozen Swedish fish! Candies with mint like peppermint patties or junior mints are also really good frozen.
Almond Joy=blech!
I’ve never found anything cool while running but I did run past a headless mannequin dressed in Santa suit on the side of a trail once.

Reply

Don’t put your bread in the fridge! It goes stale in there faster! The fridge sucks out the moisture. if you’re not going to eat it fast enough FREEZE it. Keeps it fresher. I used to work in a bread store. Putting it in the fridge is a big no no.

Reply

It takes us a while to go through bread so it goes in the freezer or in the fridge; otherwise it goes bad.

Almond Joys are the best, especially frozen!

I don’t think I’ve lost anything while running, but I have found a brand new phone and I was able to get it back to its owner!

Reply

Almonds- YUM! In anything.
I see a lot of wildlife when I run (we live in the country)- skunks and coyotes are the scariest things I have seen. ?
I like to freeze cantaloupe, honeydew melon, and oreos! The melons are good with almond milk and yogurt, like a smoothie bowl but not blended.

1. Bread in the pantry unless i have extra loafs, then they go in the freezer. We sometimes put it in the fridge if we are going out of town, bc i think it helps preserve it longer, but then it’s not soft for sandwiches. My friend in Florida does it, not sure if it’s because of the extra humidity.
2. Almond joys… yuck…
3. I keep thin mints in the freezer
4. I once was visiting the Mall of America and left my purse on a table in the food court and realized it was gone 30 mins later and luckily came back and found it!

Reply

I would PREFER to put my bread in the pantry, but then it molds too quickly and throwing away food makes me so angry. So we keep it in the fridge. Almond Joys are amazing. I kind of love that a lot of people don’t like them because then on Halloween, my kids and Ross all give me theirs #winning I freeze all the same candy you do. Mmmmmm. I don’t lose anything. Ever. It pisses Ross off because he, on the other hand, does. A lot.

I think those dark chocolate covered orange peels are amazing stored in the freezer! And in college, I was running with my keys but also have the mini-wallet attached to it, and all of my cards for that! My license, my debit card… I was not happy! I retraced my run the next day, and to my surprise, they were in the grass of the field that I ran through! I’ve been more careful since then :-)

I always put homemade cookies in the freezer. I love the way they taste frozen, and my husband doesn’t, so um win-win. Oops. I do leave some from each batch out for him though. And we keep bread in the fridge because we use it so rarely. Sounds like I need to put it in the freezer, but it’s full of cookies!

Bread in basket until close to expiration date then the fridge.
Love to freeze THin Mint cookies from Girl Scouts!

And what kind of sweat pants are you wearing in that picture of you holding the candies?

Hey Mary! I got them at the Nike outlet a few years ago! So comfy!!! Have a great day!

Andrew is correct, bread goes in the pantry and almond joys are gross. Kit Kats are the best frozen as are the Reeses PB cups. Can’t thing of anything I have ever lost on a run but I have found money before on the street. I think it was like $1.

Your comment just made Andrew really happy! I need to try a frozen KitKats! Have an awesome day Corrinne!

I lost my car keys once in a porta pottie at the start of a race. Fortunately I had friends at the finish line to take me to get a new set of keys for my car.
My bread goes in the pantry and one of the girls mentioned putting chocolate chip cookies in the freezer and I agree, they are delightful.
“Apples are life to me right now” …while carrying my first, (a girl), I could not get enough apples, especially the hard crunchy juicy ones. Actually anything apple was perfect, your apple crisp looks amazing!

I read that putting bread in the fridge doesn’t prolong its shelf life. Ours goes in the bread box. If I buy multiple loaves, the extras go in the freezer.
Almond Joy = nasty! I”m with Andrew on that one. And I love frozen candy bars but not frozen fruity candy. Cookies are delicious frozen, too. I used to control myself eating them by freezing them and then someone told me to eat them frozen. There is no hope for me when cookies are in the house.

I would like to politely request you don’t put any more cookie recipes on your blog from now on. Not because they’re awful and I hate cookies, but because your cookies (and Andrew’s) are so amazing and I adore cookies that every time you post something new I feel an uncontrollable need to bake them and I fall in love with cookies all over again. So for the sake of my waistline, please stop! Kidding…please continue to post about food. I love food.
On an unrelated topic to today’s post, have you heard of the Run Angel? I read an article about it yesterday on womensrunning.com and I’m so excited to get one! How many times have you mentioned safety to us who follow you or relayed stories of when you felt uncomfortable while out on your own? I feel I speak for many other women (and men, too) when I say the Run Angel might be a product that makes all of us feel safer. If you haven’t already, check it out! I’m in no way affiliated with the Run Angel or the people who designed it, but I thought it was so insightful and very much needed in the running market.
Hope you’re having a wonderful day, Janae!

Hahahaha I will work on posting less cookies but I can’t stop posting caramel apples at this point in my life;) I have never heard of Run Angel but I am going to go read all about it (and post about it… sounds awesome)! Thank you so much Kelly and I hope you have a wonderful day!

I grew up in Charleston, SC (aka the humidity capital of the world) so I always put bread in the fridge to prevent mold. Same with ketchup and other sauces that get gross on the countertop.

I’m actually home with a stomach virus and wish I had some frozen mints. I almost always keep them in the freezer for upset stomach (and when I was pregnant) but we loved recently and I didn’t replenish :(

Reply

Steph, I am so so sorry you are sick! Wish I could bring you over some frozen mints right now! Get better ASAP!

I LOVE Nicole Antoinette! I have been following her for years. Right now she’s solo hiking an 800 mile trail that goes thru Arizona. You should check out her instagram, it’s super inspiring and amazing. ( https://www.instagram.com/nic.antoinette/ ) Have a good day!

My 3 kids LOVE to be tickled – but I HATE it (which I blame on my older brother – tickling was his form of sibling torture!)
Bread in the pantry without a doubt (I don’t like cold bread!) I make most of our bread and it honestly rarely leaves the counter! :)
We dig through our kids Halloween candy and free Butterfingers and Reeses cups to use in milkshakes down the road.

Almond Joys- YES YES YES. I love them.

Lovely family memories! I love banana bread frozen. Mmmmm!

Almond joys = delicious!!! Everyone probably agrees but Thin Mint cookies in the freezer for life!

My daughter loves to be tickled, but my son runs away (he loves to be chased). I run from it too…in fact, if I had someone trying to tickle me during my next race I’d probably PR! Haha!

I never froze candy until I met my husband but frozen Girl Scout Peanut Butter Patties cookies are pretty good straight out of the freezer. They last longer too since they are out of sight!

Hope you had a wonderful Tuesday.

An old roommate used to put bread in the fridge… I started doing the same until I was over eating stale bread all the time!
Bread stored in the refrigerator will dry out and become stale much faster than bread stored at room temperature. For longer-term storage, you should freeze bread. Soft-crusted, pre-sliced breads will keep fresh for up to a week at room temperature; be sure to keep the original packaging tightly closed after each use.

I put my bread in the pantry or freezer. Never the fridge.
Almond Joys are so lovely
I don’t freeze candy but love frozen cookies
What have I not lost on a run. I’m good at putting stuff in my zip up pockets and forgetting to zip the pocket. Not good for keeping items .

We keep one loaf out, and the rest go in the freezer to be taken out one at a time.
Almond Joy — yuck!
When I was a kid my mom made these *amazing* (and relatively healthy) applesauce raisin cookies and kept them in the freezer — and now I prefer them frozen to room temp! Plus frozen Thin Mint cookies, of course! Never tried freezing candy, but I like Snickers and PB cups in the fridge.
Thankfully I’ve never lost anything too exciting on a run — just a glove that fell out of my pocket… Never found anything, either.

When you buy bread, do you put it in the pantry or the fridge?
i put in the fridge, but hubs puts it in the freezer. he says it goes in the freezer to store long term or we leave it out in a paper bag for a couple days.

Almond Joys: Delicious or the opposite of delicious?
i don’t know…?

Ever freeze candy (or other things that most people don’t normally freeze but you think it is delicious)? What?
nope

Ever lost anything important on a run? Ever find anything cool on a run?
never lost anything but i’ve found money a few times, a $5, a $10, a $20, one time a couple $20’s. it’s like oh what’s that green thing – cool it’s money!

Reply

and nope i’m wrong, i once lost one glove while racing at a trail race, a 10K. i was sad i went back to look for it after i finished but couldn’t find it. it was one of the head gloves we get from Costco :)

I’m w/ u on the bread & Andrew on the Almond Joys. ?
