It doesn’t get better than this + Friday Faves + Accomplishments!

Our best attempt for a picture before school.

Oh and the kids wanted a picture with their pumpkins too.

I swear each day of pregnancy is making it harder and harder to get out of bed for me (or maybe it is because it is so dark outside in the mornings now).  I got in a few miles before Brooke went to school and then some after too and Knox joined me for those.  He told me during this bike ride to start waking him up early in the mornings so that he could ride with me during my runs.  We also talked about my poodle from high school (he is quite obsessed with her) and he wanted to hear every little fact about her life.

IMG 8439

Yep, we had fun together… he even told me he slowed down for me because of the baby.

IMG 8450

The absolute best part of my day= A good friend of mine (she just had a huge pr last Saturday at the St. George Marathon and BQed!) brought my ultimate craving (remember how I mentioned how bad I wanted it earlier this week?)!  The most amazing homemade bread (seriously, she needs to open a bakery) and homemade raspberry jam.  I kept going back for more and more… it hit the spot perfectly.

It doesn’t get much better than this for me right now!

IMG 8470

We worked hard on some new words on the couch…

IMG 8458

It was warm enough for all three of them to jump on the tramp.

LRG DSC09338

Of course this happened.

IMG 8474

I ate something green and something other than bread (I had more of that after dinner) for dinner!  Another salad mix (the kale one from Costco) with chicken on top!

IMG 8476

PS we had a change of race plans this weekend!  Long story short but we now have Knox for a part of the weekend so we won’t be able to make it up to SLC for the race.  BUT I’ll be doing a Halloween race at the end of the month now… time to get working on my costume!

————————————————————————————–

Time for a few of my Friday Faves!!!

*The softest blankets on the planet=  Saranoni.  I had seen a few of my friends post about them and decided I wanted to get some for the baby!  I can’t even believe how soft they are.  Next—>  buy one for everyone in the family because they are heavenly.

IMG 8255

*This picture of Andrew and Knox… Andrew trying to figure out how the heck Knox got his socks so dirty and using the vacuum to try and clean them off.  Knox having the time of his life (he has pretty ticklish feet).

IMG 7776

*Trying new candy.  While these aren’t my favorite M&M’s ever, they do REALLY taste like pumpkin pie.  I couldn’t believe how similar they were.  PS this Thanksgiving should be interesting.  We don’t have the kids and Andrew will be flying Brooke back and forth to N. California while I’m hanging out at like 37.5 weeks pregnant (that’s when I had Brooke).  It should be interesting this year and hopefully I can get in some sort of Turkey Trot that day;)

IMG 7775

*Someone told us to watch Manhunt on Netflix.  It is about the Unabomber case and Andrew and I could not stop watching it.  We just finished and it was intense (if you like those kinds of things, it was REALLY intense)…  for the first time in this pregnancy I stayed up past 11 watching something because I wanted to see the ending (even though I knew the ending).

*Costco did it again.  $10 awesome running gloves.  I love the Head brand to run with (not too bulky, they keep your hands really warm and you can use your phone’s touchscreen with the gloves on).  These are men’s but they are a little thicker and warmer than my normal ones.  You can also find them on Amazon HERE (but they are cheaper at Costco)!

IMG 8453

*I’ve had a few questions about my sunglasses… I have been loving these (I got them in Vegas on my girls’ trip… ps I explain in this post how Andrew and I budget in our own personal fun stuff)!

*I can’t even explain to you how happy we both are (BUT ESPECIALLY ANDREW) that the kid’s love riding bikes.  He takes each of them out on their own little mini-bike dates and they ride for quite some time.  He loves sharing his favorite hobby with them.

IMG 8263

*I know my mom comes across as the sweetest (she is) but she sure likes to tease too…  I mean, I wouldn’t hate getting ready for bed at 4:42.

IMG 8473

*I drink a lot of hot chocolate now (I think I’ve told you that a million times) and was in need of a really good travel mug… this Contigo one is amazing (and keeps it hot forever).

*A few weeks ago you guys recommended some amazing face masks to me and this one WINS!!!

*The look Brooke gets when she has carbs and honey butter in her hands… I have that same look.

You guys keep amazing me!!! If you want to share your running accomplishments, send them to [email protected]

————————————————————————————–

Arthi!!!  “I ran the Chicago Marathon last Sunday, and after 10 years of distance running and on the day of my 10th marathon, I qualified for BOSTON!!  I never considered myself a fast runner… Ever.  My endurance was strong but in terms of speed, I was a bit more average (which isn’t a bad thing!).  But I wanted to qualify more than anything… So I dedicated myself to training… And pushed myself WAY beyond my comfort zone in that race.  I ended up finishing at 3:27:53 and it was by far one of the best moments of my entire life (even though walking really hurts right now!).

Fingers crossed I get into Boston 2019!

IMG 4554

————————————————————————————–

Laura!!!  “I commented on your post last week about October races and told you I was running the Lake Placid Classic in New York’s high peaks.  The race was absolutely incredible- scenery was amazing and I ran way faster/stronger than I expected.  It was my first race of any distance since a groin injury last year and although I knew I could run the distance, I wasn’t sure I would do it well.  I ended up running a 9:23 average pace and I felt so strong I almost didn’t want it to be over!”

NewImage

————————————————————————————–

Rachel!!! “Two years ago, I ran my first full marathon in St. George.  After fighting a knee injury, I came back and did my second full this year, also at St. George.  When I ran my first, I finished in 4:01, and that one minute has haunted me ever since.  This time, I just wanted to break the four hour mark.   Training was rough this time, with most of my running buddies injured, horrible weather (smoke from fires), and tons of stress from other parts of life.  I went into the race unsure if I would be able to finish, let alone break the four hour goal I’d been dreaming of for two years.  From mile one, I knew it was not going to be a fun race.  The race conditions were absolutely perfect, but my stomach was giving me problems.  I was teetering on the edge of a cold, and my knee decided to flare up immediately.  I never felt like my taper really ‘kicked in,’ and I was completely exhausted.  I checked my watch at 16.2 miles, with ten miles left, and realized that I only had to maintain a ten minute mile pace for the rest of the race to achieve my goal.  But even that was a struggle.  I was so tired.  But I pushed through, slowing down and just setting my sights on finishing. It was frustrating to be passed left and right by all of the other runners on the awesome downhills at mile 20, but I just kept putting one foot in front of the other.  When I crossed the finish line with a time of 3:54:03, I immediately started crying when I saw my husband cheering me on.  I have never been so mentally and physically fatigued in a race, and have never had to push through so hard.  I might be done with marathons and focus mainly on the half (my favorite distance!), but I’m glad that I was able to finish that race! And on another awesome note, my friend ran her 26th marathon and qualified for her second Boston!”

I tried the cookies and scream m&m’s for halloween, but they were not my favorite…………I still prefer either dark chocolate or peanut butter m&m’s.
Today is probably 5 miles at lunch. I attempted 12-13 on Wednesday but had to stop at 9 due to the ridiculous heat and humidity, so hopefully this weekend will cool down some!
On my salads I like chicken, avocado, and chick peas!!

Have a great weekend!!

Reply

I hope you get some pb m&m’s soon Loribeth! I don’t know how you run in that humidity… you are my hero! Enjoy your lunch miles today and let me know how it goes!

Knox is the cutest! That is seriously the sweetest thing ever. (Thanks so much for linking those posts for me yesterday!)
I’m sharing my Friday Favorites on my blog today too :)
No run for me today – but I did my full body BBG workout – holy burpees! Yesterday I ran 2.5 miles with Kimber (our vizsla puppy) and then went out for 2 miles solo – 7:15 average pace! Where did that come from?!
Last candy I ate was candy corn!
I love raspberry jam but strawberry is my favorite – my husband and I started canning our own jam years ago and now we give it out for Christmas gifts every year…it was even the party favor at our wedding!
Enjoy your Friday!

Reply

Way to go on the BBG workout… I want to try that after I have this baby. Kimber is the cutest thing ever and way to go on those speedy miles yesterday! Best Christmas gift ever… homemade jam! I want to listen to The Good Daughter!

So, I saw Strawberry Nut M&Ms at a candy shoppe yesterday. Ummmmmm?!?! I didn’t buy them. Fruity flavors and M&Ms just don’t seem to mix in my book. Bring on the peanut butter or cookies and cream flavors, but no fruit.

Last candy I ate—this is an old fashioned candy, but they’re called Kits. They’re basically little pieces of taffy wrapped in paper. The same company makes BB Bats, too–same thing in a pop form. I love them!

Friday Favorites:
*I know you don’t wear mascara, but Bobbi Brown Eye Opening Mascara
*The Anthropologie fall sale. I think I want this dress, but I’m not sure if I want royal blue floral or navy paisley. I’m leaning toward the royal! https://www.anthropologie.com/shop/maplewood-dress/?color=049&quantity=1&size=XS%20P&type=REGULAR

Have a GREAT weekend, Janae!!!!! :)

Okay, now I NEED THAT DRESS (for after the baby)… that is gorgeous. I’m in love with it, thanks for sharing Jen! I’ve never seen Kits before… those look so fun! I had no idea that strawberry nut m&ms were a thing! I agree, I don’t want any fruit in my M&Ms either! Have a beautiful weekend Jen!! Thanks for sharing your favorites!

I used to work with this lovely lady from Russia who would bring in chunks of fresh bed, a stick of butter, and a jar of homemade jam to share. Your post triggered such fond memories. :) I would make that bread my dinner, it was that good.

Brooke is always so fashion forward! Man, when I was that age I’m lucky if my shoes matched. Happy Friday!

Reply

Oh what a sweet memory Nicole, thank you for sharing with me. I hope you get some fresh bread and homemade jam as soon as possible. Nothing better than that:) I hope you are having a beautiful day Nicole!

I love that Knox wants to bike with you and keep you company on your runs! That’s too sweet!

Friday fave: I’m really happy my new job lets us wear jeans on Fridays. It may seem like such a small thing, but it really is huge. Also, I’m ready for a much-needed relaxing weekend! Happy Friday!!

Reply

I LOVED jeans day so much too when I worked at a school… it’s the little things, you are so right! ENJOY your weekend and relax as much as possible!

Can I just say (again) how much I love these accomplishment posts?! They are SO inspiring! I love this little sharing community you have created here!
Friday Favorites – I made lemon-blueberry-white chocolate scones from scratch for a food day at work today, that we are having for a coworker who’s running a marathon this weekend… and I don’t want to brag but these are SUPER good. Friday favorite for sure!
Last candy – Reese’s PB cup last night while in the middle of baking – had to give myself something sweet so I didn’t eat the scones!
I’m hoping to get in 5 miles, but there’s a chance for rain in the evening, so we will see what I can fit in before it rains.
Proteins for salad – not sure if bacon counts but I like to think it does, plus chicken or turkey, hard boiled eggs, chickpeas… or I have a salad and have a smoothie with protein on the side. I like to think of that as a well-rounded meal!

Reply

I am so glad you love these accomplishments… they inspire me big time too! Okay, those scones sound like heaven… I need one! Enjoy your run and hopefully the rain waits for you to finish:) Enjoy your weekend Rhiannon!

Reply

The homemade bread looks incredible! I haven’t had candy in a while, but the last type of chocolate i had was nutella on bread yesterday! I like to add beans into meals to up the protein. Lately I’ve been throwing all different types of beans in with the rice (in a rice cooker) –> best and easiest way to cook rice & beans! I don’t know what took me so long to get a rice cooker, they are amazing!!

Reply

Oh we love our rice cooker too… the best! Enjoy your weekend and have some more nutella today:) Thanks Dawn!

Have you mentioned what bikes you picked out for the kids? Santa is planning on getting a couple for my 5 year old son and three year old daughter and I’m just researching the options. <3

Reply

We just got the Walmart special :). I researched a ton and to be honest I couldn’t justify spending $300+ each on their first bikes that they might not love or grow out of quickly. I wanted to see how much they liked it before I got more expensive ones. They both learned on 12 inch wheel bikes (an older bike we had laying around). Then they both started riding 18inch wheel bikes when they got their balance without training wheels.

Reply

Thanks so much!

Reply

Andrew beat me to the reply:) Yay for bikes for your kiddos, let us know what you get Jessica!

Hi Janae! No run for me today, but I took a spin class this morning!

Also, I NEED to try those M&M’s – I love pumpkin-flavored anything. Although I ate lots of caramel M&M’s yesterday…

Hope you have a great weekend!

Reply

Way to go on the spin class today! I need to get back to those asap! I hope your weekend is amazing and gets some M&M’s soon!!

Oh my gosh my husband and I have been watching Manhunt, too!! We still have 2 episodes left (early mornings have prevented us from staying up late to binge watch! :( ), but you are so right – it’s intense!

Reply

AHHHH NO WAY! It really is so intense…. let me know when you finish and what you think! Have a great weekend Megan!

i don’t know what this is. but yes to the Head gloves from costco! every season my husband and i buy at least 3 pairs for ourselves and for our daughter. b/c we are constantly losing them (well it’s mostly just me). i get size S or XS if they have it, and the one by us typically has two types of head gloves (thin) as well as thick versions. i get the thin ones. one that is very snug at the wrist, i prefer these for biking b/c it seals out the wind. and there’s another more slender version they call running gloves that taper out at the opening, so they let some air in which i prefer for running. it’s not that cold here tho, about 54F this morning for the run, so it’s not glove weather yet. i probably would start wearing gloves 45F and colder – and the humidity is now gone thank goodness (it’s been super humid for about a week here with high temps). i started out with a light jacket over a tank and shorts, and by 1.6 miles, i tied the jacket around my waist for the rest of the run.

What was the last candy that you ate?
probably chocolate? i don’t eat other candy and it’s been awhile since i had chocolate too.

How many miles are you getting in today!?
i got in 5 miles this morning !

What are your favorite ways to get in protein on your salads?
nuts seeds and tofu

I’m always a fan of Fall Break — and that’s today… which means I have a long weekend! WOOHOO!

The last candy I wanted to eat was Milk Duds — the last candy I actually ate was a Root Beer Barrel (those hard candies that taste like root beer).

I love added cottage cheese, rotisserie chicken, and hard boiled eggs to my salads. They’re super yummy, easy to keep on hand, and add a good dose of protein to my leafy greens.

Reply

I just got those Head gloves too!!! Costco is seriously the best. I also got 2 pairs of the kids gloves for my kiddo and she loves them!
Love all the pics of the kiddos on their bikes :) The BEST!!!

Reply

Manhunt was SO GOOD. My husband and I were addicted to it too! Did you recognize Paul Bettany from Beautiful Mind in it?! I definitely did not!

Reply

Oh my goodness, I definitely didn’t recognize him at all… thanks for filling me in. I am so glad you guys loved it too! Now to find another show like that one… have a great weekend Lauren!

Reply

Homemade bread is the best!!! So good!
The last candy I ate was normal M&M’S because that is all that we had in the house! (I much prefer the pb ones!)
How I add protein to my salads depends on my mood! Sometimes I will add chicken but most of the time I add seeds or nuts.

Reply

No running today but I’ll get a hike in instead! Headed to St George for the weekend yay!!

Hot chocolate is a staple for me now. I have it every day and I have to ration it so I don’t have too much lol.

Reply

Haha, your mom knows you too well! And that is so cool that you have a new riding partner for your runs. Knox, you are very sweet for going slow for the baby. I love that kale salad mix from costco! I’ll often add avocado, chickpeas, sunflower or pumpkin seeds, cashews or hulled hemp seeds to salads to bump up the protein.

Reply

Speaking of Netflix – have you seen “The Barkley Marathons”? If not, you totally need to. Oh, and I never responded about how the Hunstville half marathon was. I liked it, especially the themed aid stations. Even though it’s fairly new, I think they did a great job and there seemed to be a lot of support. I’d run it again. (Although, the start line/area was kind of funny…it was just on the side of the road.) Have a good weekend!

Reply

OH MY GOODNESS… best documentary ever. Seriously, loved that one. Let me know of any other great ones you find! Thank you for letting me know about Huntsville! That does sound like a different starting line but I’m glad you liked it… I’ll join you one of these years. Way to go Dorene and enjoy your weekend!

Is the pace of the kids biking and you running about equal? My 4 year old isn’t riding a regular bike yet but that would be fun to do together ride and run but we also don’t have good areas to ride flat and straight paths. Do you?

Reply

Hey Mary!! So the kids can ride about 9:30-10:30 pace right now which is just where I am at so it works out great! We do have some areas that are really flat for us to ride together! Hopefully you can find some near you because it is the best to do with the kids! Have a great weekend with your 4 year old!

Reply

Thanks, Janae!!

Currently eating Sour Patch Kids as I read your blog :)

Favorite way to get protein in my salad – Grilled chicken … Hard boiled egg … Or straight up cottage cheese (is that weird? hah)

No running for me today! Five days strong in the pool. Going to swim once more tomorrow and then go out for an easy run on Sunday when I’m in Atlanta visiting a friend! Trying to be extra good about marathon recovery!

Reply

Dear Janae,

You won’t be alone during your 37th week while Andrew is gone, will you?? Your parents are at least nearby.. Will you stay with them? You need to have someone near you in case!! You shouldn’t be alone!

Reply

You are so sweet to ask! YES… I’ll be staying at my parents’ house or my sister’s house!! Thank you so much and I hope you have a great weekend!

Reply

Thank goodness, okay, thanks!

Oh you asked mileage today: Today I ran the longest long run in my team’s NYC Marathon training plan.. it’s our peak mileage week (raced a half Sunday @1:20:50), and since I had done 25mi earlier in the season before a conference week (so no strong long run), I did 26.2 today. Legs are dead!! All downhill from here though :)!!

I love my team and their training plans.. They have certain races and major workouts as fixtures every year in the plan..it’s great!

P.s. You’ve got to get a twitter! It’s so fun! Tell us if you do!!

Reply

WAY TO GO!!! Congrats on your incredible half and your long run… you are amazing. I cannot wait to hear about how you rock the NYC Marathon!!!! Keep me updated on everything:)

Reply

I finally started watching The Barkley Marathon and you were right, it is amazing. Totally got me through my treadmill miles this morning. Thanks for the recommendation! And next I guess will be Manhunt! As always, thank you for sharing your life with us. I look forward to reading everyday!! Can’t wait to meet the latest mini Janae ❤️

Reply

Oh thank you so much Kathy! Thank you for reading and for your comment… means a lot to me. Oh I’m so glad you watched it, SO good! Enjoy Manhunt! Have a great weekend:)

Reply

Rachel!!!! Oh my gosh, I sat next to her at the start line having no idea who she was and she gave me so much encouragement for my first full! She told me she was trying for a sub 4 and I checked on her bib after the race and saw she made it! But I had no idea the details behind acheiving it. That is so awesome!!!!!!! As for me, I had the most amazing first marathon at stt George! (no pains for anything :)) I think largely due in part to the awesome runners I met :)

Reply

Alexandra!! I was checking your bib all morning after I finished to see how you did! I know you were so excited and nervous for your first full, and I was SO stoked when I saw that you finished!! Way to rock it, and thanks for the company around the fires at the start!

Reply

I am having a Jimmy Dean Delights eggwhite & sausage muffin for breakfast. I am kind of addicted to those;) So good and good protein and calories. Not as good as whole food….but quick, easy, filling & so tasty:) So glad I found your blog last year when my sis and I ran our first half together:) I read you everyday over breakfast. You are the only blog I ready consistently and daily. Congrats on 7 years !!!!!! Also—the link to Brooke’s birth story is not working and I really want to read that post:) Have a great day celebrating;)
