7 Year BLOGIVERSARY + a giveaway to say thanks:)

First, you don’t want to miss out on this week’s baby post… it is written by Andrew and it is hilarious.  I give my 32 week update and he shares 15 things not to do when your wife is pregnant.  You can find it HERE!

PS we just got our family pics back from the amazing Lindsey Orton… I’m in love with them!  I’ll share more soon!

7 years of blogging.  That is a whole lot of posts and comments over the years:

Screen Shot 2017 10 18 at 10 05 07 AM

This blog started with this post titled, ‘Awkward.’  I compared the first blog post to a first date and shared a story with you that had nothing to do with anything important in life… and my posts haven’t changed much since then.  I instantly fell in love with blogging.

Over the years there have been some posts that have had more views than all of the others so I thought I would share a few of the top viewed posts (according to Google Analytics).. I’ll go in the order of them happening:

*Running and Periods.  I posted this back in 2011 and I don’t think it was something that was really ever talked about that much back then online… amenorrhea.  I shared my experience and so many other women shared about their experience.  We all helped each other out I hope!

NewImage

*5 ways to push yourself while running especially when you are tired.  I posted this in 2012 and I still do all 5 things:)

NewImage

*When Brooke was born and my birth story with her:)  I’m pretty dang excited to experience this again!

NewImage

*10 things I wish I knew as a new runner.  Learn from my mistakes:)

NewImage

*How I started the Hungry Runner Girl and tips to start your own blog.

NewImage

*Weighing yourself… the scale.  Talked about how I got on the scale after not weighing myself in a very long time (years ago I used to weigh myself daily and sometimes twice a day… obsessively) and things that had helped my body image!

NewImage

*Today was another lie down on the sidewalk day.  This post has my brother’s s’mores bar recipe in it so I think that is where the traffic came from:)

NewImage

*Posts on how I was dealing with my divorce—>  Would I do it all over again or skip over the hard part?  10 things getting me through my divorce.   When it isn’t convenient.  Running makes us better at life.  Thank goodness for time.

IMG 5934 1

*My half marathon PR (first time I broke 1:30.. and this was during a really hard part of life)!

NewImage

*I talked about how much dating had changed over the years in this post!

NewImage

*My Boston Marathon Recap!

NewImage

*My Tucson Marathon Recap… the time I crashed and burned big time during a marathon after 6 months of really great training.

NewImage

*On being a single mom.  I wrote this post right before I met Andrew!  I’m pretty open and vulnerable about the whole situation in this post.

NewImage

*When I first introduced Andrew on the blog!  I had never introduced anyone I was seeing on the blog until Andrew and I think that was probably a big sign to you guys that he was beyond special.

NewImage

*Our proposal story!  He proposed in the perfect way for me!

NewImage

*When I shared that we got married (we changed the date and I didn’t write about it until the day after we got married) & our wedding with a million pictures:)

NewImage

*The difference between running a marathon 30 lbs heavier + my St. George Marathon recap.

NewImage

*Why the holidays can be really hard!  They sure can be.

NewImage

*When we shared our news that we are pregnant with another little one!  Along with first trimester talk and how we found out we were pregnant and how we told our kids about the baby!

NewImage

*My sister’s kitchen remodel… lots of people wanted to see this!

NewImage

*15 pictures from our REALLY special day (when Andrew and I got sealed in the temple).

NewImage

And I can’t wait to keep sharing more and more (I’ll continue to share probably too much information because I don’t know how to not do that) with you in the years ahead! I wanted to thank you today for being my friend (even if it is over the internet… it still counts).  You have taught me a whole lot over these 7 years and I am so thankful for the connections we have been able to make together.  Thank you for sharing your highs and lows with me and helping me in more ways than you’ll ever know (I get teary eyed thinking about some of the emails/comments I have received through some of the hardest times of my life).  You guys mean the world to me and I love that we get to chat together each day.

Thank you for reading and to say thank you I’m buying someone (I wish I could buy all of you) some new running shoes (or if you want some running clothes instead we can chat about that if you win;)!

Happy Blogiversary!

Tomorrow is my birthday. Happy because my oldest daughter will be home for school to spend the day with me! I took off work and we are going to have a girls day. :-)

After I hit pause on running around 28 weeks (I’m almost 36 weeks and have jogged twice since then!), I’ve been walking miles and miles and miles. Probably more walking in these past weeks than I have in my entire adult life combined. I just realized how sad my shoes are and that I’m due for a new pair. It would be great to have new ones lined up for my return to running post-baby!

I have been here for a few years and have loved hearing about your life. I was even lucky enough to meet you:) you really do feel like a close friend!!

Reply

This made me laugh because whenever I want to make your brother’s s’mores bars, I google, “hungry runner girl sidewalk s’mores bars.” I believe you posted another version in a different post, but I know to find the updated recipe in the “laid down on the sidewalk post.” Ha! They won a very heated cookie swap competition two years ago by the way. I took home first prize and won a lovely serving platter. So thank you! :)

Hi! You’re one of the few blogs I still read. I’m a twenty something in Chicago who used to be a runner and I’m trying to do more cross training and weights. Thanks for being yourself on this blog through the highs and the lows. i enjoy when you share about your faith and relationship experiences

You are such an inspiration! I love seeing you express raw vulnerability because there are days I feel alone. I am currently in training for my first marathon with two other girlfriends. We all love your blog! I use your “My gear” section a lot to help me with my own personal gear. Thank you for everything you are putting out into this world. Sending happiness, peace, and love to you and your adorable family :)

I love reading your bog! Ran my first full marathon last Sunday and it was the hardest thing I’ve ever done. I will definitely be sticking to the half marathon distance but I’m glad I did it! Thanks for being so open and honest and I look forward to many more blog posts!

Congratulations on 7 years, Janae! I only found your blog a couple of months ago when I was stocking up on running blogs in an effort to get my motivation back after a memorable and beautiful (Big Sur!) but ultimately disappointing (performance-wise) marathon. Good news, it worked! :)

Now I only read a couple of running blogs, but yours is by far my favorite. You definitely inspire me to get out there and run but I love that it’s more than a running blog. Reading your blog genuinely makes me happy because you and Andrew (and Brooke and Knox of course) just seem like such kind people. Oh, and I can get a taste of the autumn season that I am so desperately missing. I moved to the Bay Area last year only to discover that autumn is kind of like summer here with temperatures still in the 70s and 80s! While everyone around here seems to like that, I miss my boots, and sweaters, and apple cider donuts, and flannel. So I love seeing your autumn in Utah pictures ;)

Back to running…I enjoyed going through your old posts this morning, especially the one about the Boston Marathon ( my forever home city). You’ve renewed my desire to run Boston! And you’ve given me a new one: run St. George :)

What an incredible seven years! You have such a positive and genuine way of sharing about your life and I always look forward to your posts!

Reply

Looking forward to reading some old blog posts! I started reading right after you met Andrew, and have loved following your relationship!

As for running stuff, I’m a small time runner (10 – 15 miles per week) but have been dreaming of doing a half. But, I’m dealing with a hip injury right now (torn labrum, which is ridiculous for someone who runs as little as I do) which is SO FRUSTRATING. Trying to avoid surgery, so I’m doing lots of PT and only running about a mile and a half at a time a few days a week. A half marathon may be off the books forever, but I’d be so happy just to get back to where I was!

Reply

Happy Blogivesary!! You are pretty much my favorite blog to read and follow and I look forward to your pots every day!

Reply

i look forward to your daily posts, watching brooke grow up has been such a joy! you have a beautiful family!! can’t wait for the new addition!! :D

Reply

Janae, I can’t thank you enough for all you have written and continue to write in your blog. It has helped me rediscover not only my love for running but has rehashed my most therapeutic part of my day: my run. My morning run would be my “me” time, where I would prepare for whatever was coming my way or process what had happened the prior day. And i am so grateful to have this time again.

Besides that, you have a beautiful family that I ENJOY so much reading about. After my tough day of work it is the highlight of my day! I will continue to follow you throughout your time off of running and maybe one day we can talk about This Is Us!

Thank you for all you have done and continue to do!

hmm what to share…my birthday is this weekend! I’ve been reading for a few years. You inspire me to be a better runner and not to give up on anything!

I am obsessed with all fall foods right now! Apples, cinnamon, and pumpkin spice!

Reply

I can’t believe that you blog EVERY DAY! That’s awesome and takes dedication – especially for 7 years! Congratulations on having the dedication it takes to keep such a great record that has helped a lot of people! I just ran my first half marathon, and my feet really took a beating, so I’m looking for some new shoes that offer a lot of great support. I’ve been looking at some Brooks shoes based on your recommendation, and I’d love to try them. I won’t be seriously training again until probably next summer when my husband finishes school and is available to watch our toddler, but I’d really like to run another half. If I find some good shoes that help my feet to not hurt so much, I might even be interested in doing an actual marathon!

Reply

Your blog is fantastic :)

My running is non existent for to a torn ACL, but I love thinking about the day I will be back. Even with an injury, I still am collecting running shoes…I love Brooks Ghosts and Pure flows!

Happy Blogiversary

I love that you don’t find out your weight. I typically don’t get weighed at doctor’s appointments and generally piss off nurses. My 6 year old’s class had a wedding for “Q” and “U” today. My shy little girl with a strong aversion to any attention on her had many stressed out sobbing episodes ( and she rarely cries) today and then they pulled her name to be the bride! Luckily her teacher let her back out. Weddings are emotional.

I am a mama to 4 boys- 7, 5, 3, and 1! I used to love my running time because it was my quiet, alone time…then my husband’s work schedule changed! Now I run pushing my two little boys in the jogging stroller while my two big boys ride their bikes. It is hard and it took a few weeks to find a good system and rhythm, but now I actually really enjoy the time I get to spend with my boys exercising and talking!

I just love seeing how you have kept so positive and strong during hard times! Thank you for sharing your life and experiences! Something random: we learned the hard way that a toddler can be totally normal one second and the next have a spiked fever (child wasn’t acting sick AT ALL throughout the day!) that causes a febrile seizure! Scary! And it takes a few hours after for them to gain control of their speech and movement. Our little guy twitched for awhile after and couldn’t move the left side of his body for an hour. Apparently this is common with children under 6. Our local hospital sees about 3 every 24 hours! I knew if they already have a fever and you cool them down too quickly they can seize but I had no idea a fever spiking on its own could do it! #FirstTimeParenting ?

I really enjoy following you since i don’t follow other blogs. I really feel i can relate to a lot of things you discuss. I just had my baby boy 1 month ago so totally get your pregnancy. Can’t wait to hear about your girl and meet her. I am trying to figure out when to start training and what my next marathon will be. I am trying to run one in all 50 states. I may wait until fall. But it could be Chicago since i still meet the qualifying times, St. George since you make it sound so awesome, or Idaho or South Dakota since my pace crew paces there (more trying to pick places for a free stay lol). Thanks for being so real and honest. I suffered from amenhorrea and your posts helped so much. Keep being you!

I’m writing this at 4:30am, while I drink my coffee before jumping on the treadmill. I always do this and it’s so crazy that I voluntarily get up this early, that sometimes when my friends ask me what time I wake up, I just don’t answer the question. Runners are nuts. ;)

I will be 6 weeks post partum with baby 3 this weekend and I am looking forward to running again (I am counting down the hours!!). I had severe SPD this pregnancy and so I haven’t run since about 24 weeks (walking became almost impossible by the end). I gave myself the full doctor recommended six weeks to recover and am planning on getting back in slowly to avoid any injury this time around…I like to get back to hard, too fast.

Thank you for sharing your life through the good and the bad. Your openness is amazing! Thank YOU for sharing!! I always look forward to your posts, and I feel like I know you and your family (even though I’m all the way over in DC) :) Seriously, your posts light up my day! And motivate me to kick my own butt on my runs :) Something about me is…it’s 60 degrees and not humid (WOOHOO) so I’m hoping to go outside and get a run in before heading to the doctor. I have Type 1 diabetes and have to go to doctors ALL. THE. TIME. which is super stressful (I feel like they are judging my progress with this disease) and a run beforehand usually helps me calm down. Thanks again for sharing!!

Happy blogoverdary! It’s nice of you to celebrate the way you are (<<mean that two ways!!).

I just wanted to super recommend the podcast CTolleRun. I always save her pods for the latter portion of my LR– always gives me the grit and determination to follow thru.

Might actually comment again with this so you see it amongst all the others ha..

You go girl!

Congrats on your blogiversary!! I remember reading when your posts were in all different colors and I’ve really enjoyed reading through these different stages of life. I am a little bit older than you but had my first baby a few months after you had Brooke and loved relating to you on becoming a mom! Your positivity through the hard phases of it really impacted me and helped me see the silver linings in sometimes difficult moments. Thank you for being so open and positive!

Your blog is always the first that I visit in the morning!

Congrats! I’ve been struggling to get my running groove back. I thought signing up for a half marathon for charity that I love would help, but it’s been a struggle. Your blog has helped me through some of that.

Thank you for blogging! Reading your blog helps motivate me when I’m not sure if I really want to run. I’ll especially need advice on running in the snow as I’m moving from California to Boston and have no idea what I’ll be doing :)

Love reading your blog and keeping up with your fam on Instagram. Also, I would love a pair of running shoes from the running expert herself!

Happy Blogiversary! I love following along your adventures, and I really appreciate your positivity and openness! My 3-year-old son told me this morning that he changed his mind about his Halloween costume (which I already bought)… so it looks like we are back to the drawing board! Have a great weekend!

Happy 7 years! Thanks for always being uplifting. Many times I am tired and cranky in the mornings while reading blog posts; but your posts are always so positive that I leave telling myself to get over being cranky :).

Happy anniversary! So fun to celebrate this big accomplishment! Today is my rest day; we’re drinking hot cider, painting pumpkins and listening to jazz. Pretty great Friday!

Happy Blogiversary!!!! I need to start running again regularly (well it’s more walrunning with a lot more of walking ) but I’m just not motivated to do so because I have never loved running.

I love this post happy blogiversary!! I love how open you are always! After I had a c-section with my daughter who is almost 3 now, I struggled with getting back into running and still do I lost so much abdominal and hip strength/flexibility that it can be a challenge but I always look forward to your post you make running such a positive and don’t focus so much on the fastest PR. I love the example your setting for others around you especially your children and I strive to do the same!

HBD to the blog!

We went rock climbing this morning + slowly but surely I’m getting slightly better at trusting the whole process. I got dropped off the wall [no injuries!] a few months ago + I’m really struggling to trust my belayer now…even though I know they’d never drop me. It’s weird how the mind fights you + ends up making you weaker physically because it won’t let you take the risk!

Awe I love this post! Can’t believe you have been blogging for so long, that is amazing! I have followed you for years now and you have helped me so much! I have a half marathon coming up next weekend and I am so nervous because my knee has been acting up bad. I had a goal pace but with my knee I just want to finish in a decent time.
