My Mood Changer, Friday Favorites and YOUR Race Accomplishments!

I love this picture so incredibly much.  They were running and it was my idea for them to hold hands but those running smiles… that just comes naturally when they are running.

My morning started out with a run… What a surprise;)  2 miles on the treadmill and 5 miles outside on the roads (@ a 9:22 average).

IMG 6469

I went for a blue theme and some closed eyes:)

IMG 6495

My first run with the new Levitate from Brooks!  I’ve only used them once now but WOW… talk about a spring/bounce/rebound/energy with each step.  I’m going to put a full review together once I get 50 miles in these and they are available 9/30/17!  I will say so far… I C.A.N.N.O.T. wait to use these beauties on tempos or for my speed work in 2018 because these shoes provide a lot of energy return.

IMG 6514

A few more things from our day!

Andrew took the kids to swim lessons while I had a work phone call.  Brooke’s photo posing is getting better each day.

IMG E6573

I kind of mentioned this in my baby post but during pregnancy I have days or hours where those hormones cause some sadness.  Yesterday afternoon was one of those times… I know they come from the hormones because I can’t even think of one reason that I am sad (and I told Andrew that as I was crying ha) BUT I know that going outside and moving always helps me to feel better.

So the kids rode their bikes while we walked even though it was kind of raining outside:)

IMG 6581

Twenty minutes of walking and my mood completely changed.  Much better.

IMG 6584

A Cafe Rio salad has been calling my name for over a week now so that is where we went next.  How we pass time in the line:

IMG 6589

Hit. The. Spot.  Andrew tried their new hot pork and he was SWEATING while eating it because it was so hot!

IMG 6590

After Cafe Rio I grabbed a hot chocolate because it was 49 degrees outside and because I really wanted hot chocolate.

IMG 6591

Turns out that Brooke and I are not the only two that dress alike in this family;)

Time for a few Friday Favorites!!!

*I read this post on the treadmill the other day called, ‘The silent tragedy affecting today’s children’ and while there were some things I don’t 100% agree with there were many things that I do and that I am excited to work on as a parent.  I really enjoy parenting articles so send any good ones my way!

*This song by Kelly Clarkson… I am so excited for this entire album to come out!  Such a good running song.  I’m obsessed.

IMG 6515

*It is Knox’s birthday next week and he asked if we could go running together on his birthday.  No joke.  Andrew is my witness on this one.  It made my month.  He got new running shoes and when they are on, he is running.

IMG 6561

*A good friend of mine invited me over for the best trade possible… she needs some help with some running stuff and in exchange she wanted to do a deep conditioning treatment on my hair.  Ummmm yes please.  She used the Brazilian Blowout products and my hair feels like it got a complete transformation.  Has anyone used these before?

PS email me if you want her number (if you live in Utah)… she is the best!

IMG 6570

*When you put on a jacket that you haven’t worn in a while and you find candy or money (both items bring equal happiness to me when I find them in a pocket;).

IMG 6574

*Brooke’s eye rolls are getting quite impressive these days.

IMG 6596

*How much Andrew plays with these kids.  Andrew only waited for like 6 minutes for Knox to open up his door (Knox and Andrew love to scare each other… and then they wrestle after that).

IMG 6231

*THESE ARE DELICIOUS.  Andrew said they taste like brownie batter and he is 1000% right.

IMG 6594

*All of the Halloween decorations at Target right now.  We are officially decorated inside and out for the holiday and my favorite has to be the doormats that they have there right now.

IMG 6595

*I accidentally put a pen in the washer and it somehow didn’t magically explode all over our clothes… that is a Friday Favorite.

*Leave it to my mom to always send me awesome emails:

Chelsea!!!  “I ran a 6-miler at Top of the Rock in Ridgedale, MO last weekend.  This race is known as being challenging because it is SUPER hilly.  And let me tell you, it hurts! But it’s also SO beautiful and the course was awesome.  I really pushed myself during this race- I had a lot of mental chats with myself and listened to some pretty awesome music.  I ended up finishing the 6 miles in 49:29, with a pace of 8:18.  I was the 5th overall female to place and I got 1st in my age group!  I was pumped.  It felt good to really push through some painful moments and see it pay off.  I do not handle being uncomfortable very well, so that’s what I have been working on lately- I’m slowly getting better!”

Pamela!!!  “I ran the Hokie Half Marathon this past Sunday, September 17 at Virginia Tech in Blacksburg, VA- my first half marathon! Growing up playing basketball, I have always favored sprinting over endurance running but decided earlier this year that I wanted to take on the challenge of a half marathon, if only to prove to myself that I could do it.  I wanted to become a runner!  As a VT alumna, a trip to Blacksburg and the promise of a Hokie Bird medal at the finish line were just enough to push me over the edge and decide to sign up, research training plans, and do it already.  The race was incredible; it was everything I imagined and more!  The community spirit and atmosphere were absolutely amazing.  I even caught myself smiling throughout the race- seriously!  Even with the Blacksburg hills, I finished right in between my “A” goal and my “B” goal with a time of 2:18:20.  I feel such a sense of accomplishment and I couldn’t be happier.:)”

Eva!!!  “Friday September 8th I ran a 10k in my hometown Gouda (where the cheese is from).  My first race was the 3.5 km distance in 2013, I signed up for it on a whim and I’ve been running ever since.  It is a course of one, two or three loops through the centre of the city.  I’ve been dreaming of running a 10k under an hour all this time, but my number one goal has always been to remain healthy, keep enjoying running and taking care of my family and work.  I usually run twice a week.  The Gouda track club hosts a series of clinics in preparation for this race in ten weeks over the summer.  I did this last year, and joined them this year too.  I love running on the track and going out of my comfort zone a bit more than when I’m running alone.  I thought everything was going well, but you never know until race day.  Which was rainy and fall like.  I don’t mind running in the rain, but don’t like starting with wet shoes.  Luckily the raining eased a bit.  I had been thinking positive thoughts about three loops that are the same distance as one bigger loop.  And I had noticed that when I hit a pace that’s under a 6 minute kilometer I think to myself that I’ll never be able to keep that up.  And then I slow down a lot, and I am never able to pick it up again.  I told myself I would try to keep on running the same pace if it would feel comfortable, and that I shouldn’t be afraid of a number on my watch.  All in all it worked very well.  The course was less busy than other years, the rain felt nice and cool, I didn’t stop for a drink (something else I had been debating over all week, bring my own water or walk while drinking) and my husband and a neighbor were cheering me on, although my husband had said he wouldn’t come because of the weather.  Seeing him was a bit emotional, but really cool.  The final loop felt tough but I knew I would pr if I kept the pace.  I didn’t quite, but I’m very happy with 1.00.36, a 1.30 minute pr.  It showed me the power of positive thinking and that there is still room for improvement.  This picture was sent to me by a friend of a friend who was cheering along the course.”

Stacey!!!  “My husband and I ran our first half marathon on Sunday, 9/17!  I had previously run the Chicago Marathon in 10/2016 (never having run anything longer than an 8k) and my husband was the BEST supporter taking the train all over the city to cheer me on in 10 different locations!  It impressed him so much that he, not a runner, wanted to do the North Face Endurance Challenge with me which is near us in Wisconsin.  This is a TRAIL run, we chose the half marathon.  All the hills, rocks, sand, mud, dirt, did I mention HILLS?  He came out 45 minutes ahead of me (so proud of him!) and he is now determined to run the Chicago Marathon next year! I’m not sure I’ll do the half again, I might decrease to the 10k instead because it was HARE.  I was one of the last 5 finishers (insert red face here) but my first thought after finishing was “I really want Janae to be my running coach to help me be the best runner I can be!”

Peanut butter M&M’s are hands down my favorite!! I’m a sucker for any chocolate peanut butter treat. I can barely get my boyfriend to walk a 5k with me on Thanksgiving morning even though it’s a tradition in my family. Maybe he’s being a pain since we’re spending the holiday with his family and not traveling to Chicago to see mine. I think I might just sign him up and he can deal with it :)
Also Knox wanting to run with you on his birthday is the CUTEST Janae!! I hope he can keep up with you ;)

Have a great one girl!

Reply

Hahaha I will fully support you signing you two up for a Thanksgiving 5k:) Thanks Maureen and have some PB M&M’s this weekend please!

Reply

I seriously want Brooke’s pink Nike zip up in my size!
I need those M&Ms!!

Reply

Bahahah I checked to see if they had it in my size too;)

I hope your weekend is amazing Laura! Loved your Friday Favorites and I cannot wait for the fall shows coming back too!

Reply

Those pictures of Knox and Brooke holding hands are so sweet and adorable!! Y’all truly are such a precious and inspiring family.

I’m looking forward to spending some time outside this weekend at the beach and maybe hiking (and some time inside watching lots of football). And, I’m not really a huge dog person, but I’m going to a dog surfing competition tomorrow, so I’m sure that will be entertaining!

Reply

Enjoy your outside time this weekend Natalie… that dog surfing competition sounds like a blast!!

My boyfriend and I don’t run the same pace but have run the same race a few times before. I asked him to run a 5k at my pace just once when I am back to running so I have something to look forward to. He obliged. I’m sure he isn’t happy about it lol. But he loves me.

And this weekend he suggested a last minute getaway. He doesn’t have his kids and he just accepted a new job so and I can work remotely and we found coverage for our dogs. So we will be going to see a Frank Lloyd Wright home about 90 minutes south east of Pittsburgh! It’s a 5-6 hour drive for us so we’re going to stay at a bed and breakfast for two nights.

But actually the most exciting thing is that his 12 yr old daughter joined cross country at her school this year and we are going to her second meet of the season today!

Reply

Sally!! Oh I love that you guys are going to run a 5k together when you are going again! ENJOY THE GETAWAY!!! That sounds perfect Sally!! Have a blast at the cross country meet too!

An enthusiastic YES on the BBO hair products. A BBO keratin treatment is my once/quarter splurge and their products keep my hair looking smooth in between treatments. I especially like the root lifter-adds some volume along the crown of my head. LOVE!

Looking forward to attending my daughters first Girl Scout jamboree on Sunday afternoon/early evening. It will be a long day (6 hours) but she will come home with a ton of new skills, badges and friends.

Reply

Seriously, how have I waited so long to try BBO! I’m obsessed… I think I need this to be a quarterly splurge too (I think I did the same thing you are talking about because she said it should last about 12 weeks:)! Have a blast at the jamboree, that is so exciting Rosie!

Reply

Thing I’m looking forward to most this weekend – The LAST long run of our training season!! We hit 22 miles last weekend and have 12 on the agenda tomorrow and then it’s taper time. Taper madness is real but I’m ready for it and ready for the Chicago Marathon :)

Those M&M’s look good!! My favorite are the caramel ones right now. I kind of wonder who buys regular ones anymore with all the exciting flavors out.

Reply

LAST LONG RUN… ahhhh I am so excited for you to rock Chicago. You’ve got this taper! Do Chicago again next year and I’ll come run too:) HAHA yeah, I don’t think anyone buys the regular ones anymore either!

Reply

Loved that picture of the kids having lunch haha!!

My favorite type of M&M are the pretzel ones. What I’m most looking forward to this weekend is to go to one of my friends baby shower. She’s having a little girl. I bought her present yesterday and my heart was melting as I saw the baby stuff.

Also, my fiancé and I will go and see a possible venue for or wedding. Another thing I’m excited about :)

Enjoy your Friday Janae!

Reply

Ahhh a wedding venue, that is so exciting! Oh the pretzel ones are so ridiculously good! Enjoy the baby shower:)

I’ve been loving that Kelly Clarksom song too. It’s a perfect running song!

My husband and I have run many races together, whether we actually run together or just run the same race. I do feel lucky to have someone that shares that hobby with me.

Reply

I seriously love that you guys race together… you two are SPEED DEMONS!
PS I am STILL crossing my fingers that a Halloween race is a thing:)
PPS have a great weekend Hollie!

One of my best friends is getting married this weekend. I can’t wait, I’m so happy for them.

Money in the pockets is always the best. My husband swears my jackets are magic because I almost always forget money in the pockets.

Reply

Oh Nina, that is so exciting! Enjoy every second of the wedding and everything that goes along with that!

Reply

Janae, your music suggestions are always on point! I heard the Kelly Clarkson song about a week ago and, no joke, thought to myself how I would see this on your blog very soon! Today….ta-da, there it was!

Fall is my absolute favorite time of year. You can’t beat the cooler weather, the trees changing colors, the smokey crispness in the air, the food! M&M also has a pumpkin spice flavor (if you like that type of thing; for me, yes please!) that I have only been able to find at Target. So good! Can’t wait to try my bag of Cookies & Screeem M&Ms, since you said Andrew approves!

Have a fabulous Friday!!

Reply

Okay, this makes me so happy… we love the same music! Send me any of your favorite running songs:) I so agree with you about fall, this is the best! I need to try the pumpkin spice M&Ms asap! I hope your weekend is amazing Kelly!

I would LOVE to do a race with my hubby bubby! He’s really surprised me lately with his run-abilities. He’s NEVER wanted to run before, but all of a sudden he’s doing 200m repeats without any walking breaks! He’s talking about walk/running and breaking his current 14:10 min time!

I’m so looking forward to going to a local apple orchard. I’ve never been to this one, but they are supposed to have apple picking, apple cider, AND donuts! SOUNDS SOO GOOD!

Reply

Have so much fun at the apple orchard, that sounds amazing and I need one of those donuts.

Okay, I LOVE that your husband is getting into running now and with 200m repeats, that is awesome! Keep me updated on his running too! Have a fabulous weekend Susie!

So Brooke’s jean jacket is adorable!
I shared that article a few weeks ago – I see a lot of issues being a teacher – I’m sure you can relate :)
My Friday favorites are up on the blog today! Check it out ;)
My husband would never run a race with me…he is so not a runner!
My favorite m&m’s are the dark chocolate ones – I need to pick some up this weekend!
Hope you have a great day!

HAHAH me too… I am jealous of all of her clothes ha. YES YES YES as a teacher I could not believe how reliant the kids were on technology to entertain them. Definitely something I am very careful with our kids! That pumpkin cream cheese cake on your blog is literally making me DROOL. That looks SO good! Enjoy your weekend!

Okay I need to try those M&M’s… my current fav are either birthday cake or candy corn!!

What am I looking forward to this weekend?????? Dropping the kids off early at my folks house, going with my husband to Kansas City for a day date and shopping (new Nike shoes & Nike Pro shorts for me, been saving and this is a treat), going to Trader Joes for the first time, finding an acai bowl to try for the first time, eating some great BBQ, and seeing the Tim McGraw/Faith Hill concert with my hot date (my husband of 20 years!). Then picking up the kids after I sleep-in on Sunday. I’m so excited I could hardly sleep last night. It’s the little things.

Reply

Betsy… that sounds like the perfect weekend to me! I am so so happy for you guys. I can’t believe you are going to see Tim and Faith too (congrats on 20 years ahhhh)! Enjoy every second and I want to hear all about it!

Reply

How can something so simple like Hot Chocolate make us sooo happy??

My favorite M&Ms are peanut butter followed closely by the new caramel ones. I like when the PB ones get a little melty. H is a die hard peanut M&M fan and he keeps them in the fridge. I do not understand this…

Reply

Right?! I am already looking forward to my hot chocolate today haha! Oh the PB ones are something special and I do not understand the fridge thing either. I hope you have an amazing weekend Elizabeth!

I’m in the market for a new hairdresser. Mine went back to school. Which is great, but sad for me.

Utah is freezing right now. Really bad timing for a race tomorrow.

Reply

Email me and I’ll give you her info… she is the cutest and it is in her house so you can bring kids (I brought Brooke:) I hope your race is amazing tomorrow Jenny and that it gets a little bit warmer!

Reply

Oh caramel M&Ms are my favorite! Some stores are running out of them, which is so sad! I read that Mars had to make more because of that issue :) Because they’re SOOOO good! Have a great weekend!

Reply

I seriously can’t believe I haven’t tried those yet (that I remember?!?)! You have inspired me to go get them today! I hope you are having a beautiful day!

Reply

I love that you always keep me updated on the newest M&M flavors to pick up at Target! We tried the caramel ones last—they were “okay”, but I have high hopes for these cookies and cream ones!!! Yum! My very favorites are either plain or peanut butter :)

What am I most looking forward to this weekend?! A lot! Fusion yoga class tonight, leg massage tomorrow, and then some SHOPPING for fall clothes after that! It’s been too long since I’ve had time to go shopping–I’m excited!

And, I ADORE that first pic of your kiddos running and holding hands. They look like they belong in a Hanna Anderson catalog! So cute. They COULD be models, but that world is a whole other can of worms! ha!

Reply

I need those plates the kids are using!!! Were they at Target??

Reply

I got a Brazilian Blowout once and it was incredible. I have super thin, long hair so it gets dry and breaks easily. That was the best 6 months of my hair’s life. ? I should probably do that again one day.

PB M&M’s all the way. But now…I think I need to go find those Cookies & Scream ones. Anything that tastes like brownie batter has to be good! Oh, have you tried the caramel ones. Like a Rolo inside an M&M!

My “running” accomplishment is that I’m up to walking 3 miles at a time on the treadmill after being knocked out of my running (and any form of exercise, truthfully) for about 4-5 months because of some health issues. I’m hoping to start throwing in some jogging here an there in a couple weeks.

Have an awesome weekend, Janae!

Reply

My husband and I did a 5K fun run, which got us free tickets to a basketball game way back before we got married. We recently did a Turkey Trot a couple years ago with our kids, too. I love how accomplished I feel after a run but I’m just not good with the breathing. I sound like I’m hyper-ventilating and probably why I can’t run far with stopping. That’s so sweet about Knox wanting to run with you; talk about speaking your love language. :) The pic of them holding hands is so sweet. Reminds me of how close my kids are; they will be 10 in two months and still hold hands when we go out sometimes. They are so innocent and I love seeing the bond they share. Have a great, cheery day, Janae!

My boyfriend and I ran his first ever half marathon together a few years ago. (it was my 4th) He didn’t LOVE the long distance, but he has run a few other 10k’s and 5k’s with me! It was SO much fun (for me at least!Ha!) to have him with me and we helped each other get through it together.

I need to try those M&M’s ASAP! I’ve heard there are new caramel ones I think! Ugh, I’m such a sucker for chocolate, I’m sure I’d become addicted quick fast and in a hurry! :) Oh and now I need some hot chocolate ASAP! Ha!

I have a 9 miler on my schedule this weekend! Longest distance I’ve done in quite a while, so hopefully all goes well! We’ll see! :)

P.S. I LOVE LOVE LOVE those Brook’s shoes!! I can’t wait until they come out so I can try them out!! They sound amazing!!

Happy Friday Janae!!!

My husband and I have ran nearly every race together. We’ve ran 3 half marathons and countless other smaller races together. He broke 4 ribs this past March, so right now we aren’t the same pace, but I love when we do races together! I’m training for my first marathon and he has no interest in running one, but he’s running the 10k version and has been so supportive of me to get out the door (the hardest part) and run. Doing my long run this weekend, watching football and relaxing with the hubs and doggie.
Those Oreo M&Ms look AMAZING!! I love peanut butter, pretzel, and candy corn M&Ms. Now I must look for these at the store!

Reply

Pretzel m&ms used to be my favorite but I haven’t had them in a while! I wonder if they still sell them…
looking forward to a big family/ friend dinner tomorrow! Have a good weekend :)

Reply

Omg, Brooke’s eye roll makes me seriously LOL! It’s cute until they get to be about 9-10….then it starts getting annoying!

My favorite m&ms are peanut butter. I never tend to like the special edition ones, they seem to disappoint me, but maybe I’ll try this one.

Have a great weekend!

Reply

Love the doormat!…..hate it died though

Reply

Usually new M&M flavors disappoint me, but I will need to try those! My favorite is dark chocolate M&M’s!

My husband doesn’t race, but he gets super excited to get up early and cheer me on, and he will ride his bike with me when I am training…….he can carry extra water and we usually bring bread to feed the geese on the trail!

Friday favorite today is the Iron Man expo outside work! We hosted the 70.3 world championships two weeks ago, and Sunday is the full Iron Man…………there’s around 5000 athletes coming to participate, but I think the heat might get to some of them……….the highs here are in the upper 80’s for the next week and humidity is high, too. Two weeks ago it was in the low 70’s and gorgeous but it’s summer again here…….sigh……………

Reply

Hi, this might make Brooke and others roll their eyes, but I have to comment on the M&M’s. While I appreciate the flavor creativity, I also noticed and appreciated the disclosure on Mars full size sweets. The disclosure is not on snack size, like those to be handed out on Halloween. I don’t feel like I know who the Melendez group is, but their sweets (Oreos) do not disclose this and neither does Coca-Cola. Ok, here it is: “Partially produced with genetic engineering.”

Genetic engineering, like GMOs. The Stay at Home Mom YouTube you included the other day – there’s a channel there and she has recipes for a lot of sweets and they’re easy. It’s nothing like popping an M&M and moving on with your day, but it’s more of a sacrifice these days. There is a bigger gap between what you gave the kids on their super cute Halloween plates and these snacks. Ok, really going for it: If we’re feeding our kids one way and ourselves another, what does it say about our self-respect? Debate-lover here.

Reply

Oh, I scrolled by the pic of the M&M Screeems again and it’s like they’re telling us something with the scared original guy on the front of the package!

Some women are out their shopping organic and soy-free chocolate. Yes, it exists. And here are M&Ms on the other end of the spectrum. Ay, yay, yay.

Reply

How awesome to see my other favorite blogger on your post today! My two daily must reads, you and Chelsea @ Papers and Pavements. You both put a smile on my face! :D
Enjoy those cool temps; still hot(90’s) and humid ((90%) here in Florida. But that is our crazy norm.
Happy Weekend!!!
