Do you panic when this happens + a workout playlist + running sure knows how to humble me;)

Monday Janae = ‘Oh goodness, running is feeling like a million bucks and I feel stronger than ever.  I bet I could run a half-marathon tomorrow if I wanted to.’

Tuesday Janae= ‘Yeah, I’m going to take a walking break multiple times each mile and slow it down big time because this might in fact be the hardest run of my life.’  (This may have something to do with the fact that Beretta woke me up by her SNORING ((I didn’t know dogs snored) and I couldn’t fall back asleep that night… maybe she is just trying to get us ready for the baby).

Running sure humbles you right when you start getting a little overconfident about it all.  Running likes to remind me whenever I feel like it is feeling easy that it isn’t easy ha.

I have been listening to more tunes lately than usual, especially when I am on the treadmill!  Here are my top 12 current favorite running songs:

Bad At Love by Halsey (I am beyond obsessed with his song)

Take it All Back 2.0 by Judah & the Lion

Drummer Boy by MisterWives

Ready For It by Taylor Swift

What About Us by Pink

Friends by Justin Bieber & Bloodpop

Marmalade by Macklemore

The Violence by Rise Against (for my first marathon I listened to an entire Rise Against album during the race so they always take me back to that day:)

Vacation by Dirty Heads

Feel It Still by Portugal.  The Man

Dusk Til Dawn (feat. Sia) by ZAYN

Kids by OneRepublic

Post-run and I was back home to wake Brooke up for school.  Andrew told me that while they were camping last weekend Brooke put herself to bed at 9 and Knox could have stayed up all night partying… just like Andrew and me ha.  She loves her sleep and Knox is like Andrew and wouldn’t be mad if he never had to sleep again.

IMG 5463

Morning pep talk before school starts.

IMG 5466

Greek yogurt + peaches from Costco + Cinnamon Toast Crunch.  Absolutely delicious.

IMG 5497

Knox will be with us for the next 1.5 weeks straight so we are all thrilled about that!

Yesterday afternoon included swim lessons!

IMG 5502

I brought my current favorite trail mix (my one ingredient trail mix is pretty fancy—> chocolate covered raisins.  Andrew apologized to me yesterday for telling me how gross he thought chocolate covered raisins were and then he tried them… and loved them.

IMG 5504

Brooke telling me that she has her eye on me.

IMG 5508

Dinner was our weekly (biweekly) tradition of grilled cheese and tomato soup.  It always sounds good.  Andrew and I moved up to 1.5 sandwiches and Brooke tried dipping her sandwich in tomato soup for the first time and loved it (don’t mind the carrots and orange peels all over:).

IMG 5511

This is great news.  Costco started carrying tomato basil soup and it is our absolute favorite.  They don’t have it during the summer and I’ve been waiting for it to be back for months now.  If you like tomato soup and Costco, try this.

IMG 5440

PS  The other day I decided to try making the kids some Beretta pancakes…

IMG 5411

They were a success.  I don’t know if the kids will ever want normal looking pancakes again after these.

IMG 5412

PPS we went on a date Monday night.  Andrew will be gone at the hospital for most of the rest of the week so we decided to go out on Monday.  We have neighbors that I have known for over 10 years now (I met them in my spin class when I taught:) and they have two kids our kids’ ages… we LOVE doing swaps with them.  It makes it so easy to be able to just go out for an hour or two and then have them do the same whenever they want.

DSC08354

Andrew saw the pictures from when we went to Benihana in Vegas and has craved it ever since then.  We don’t have a Benihana’s but we found a similar restaurant.  The fried rice was everything.  I could have eaten everyone’s serving of that rice.

IMG 5442

Megan D sent this to me… She and I have been friends for 6ish years and we have never once spoken on the phone;)  Let’s just say she isn’t much of a phone talker ha so I had to laugh when she sent this to me.  I don’t feel like I usually call people very often unless it is my mom, dad or siblings but every now and then the kids will have my phone and accidentally push call to someone I haven’t talked to in ten years (I should probably go through my contacts;)!  Do you understand this panic?

I love that you and Andrew make time to get away and go on dates together. It truly makes my heart so happy that you found someone you love so much and who loves you and seems to be so perfect for you. :)

I actually do talk on the phone pretty often. I don’t always have time to see some of my friends, especially those who don’t live near me, so we often catch up through phone dates. I have a feeling I’ll be having a lot more of those after I move to California this Friday because all of my people will still be in Texas!

Papa Ork is the best spell caster out there. if you are passing through any problem in your relationship or marriage, email: orkstarspell@gmail. com his help is awesome.

Dinner last night was elbow macaroni, chicken meatballs and zucchini with fresh tomato sauce my dad made with the tomatoes and basil from his garden. Zucchini came from his garden as well.

I made a big pot so I have portioned out meals for the rest of the week.

Ultimate trail mix would have almonds, walnuts, dark chocolate chips, pretzels and dried blueberries.

I’m not a huge phone person. But my boyfriend and I just recently implemented a daily phone call rule. We don’t live together and when 3 days would go by with only texting I would feel a bit disconnected. He was worried at first he wouldn’t have anything to talk about but funny that he ends up talking more than I do!

I am not a phone talker! I prefer text and email so much. I have a couple of friends who I do talk to on the phone but mostly it’s just my parents and my husband. Talking on the phone gives me a lot of anxiety!

My little one sleeps just like Brooke does and I really hope it continues as she gets older (shes currently 20 months)!

I love chocolate covered raisins too! Also yogurt covered raisins :-)

Reply

Oh I sure hope your 20 month old continues to sleep so well Torrie… that is the best. THANK YOU for reminding me of yogurt covered raisins… I need to go to the store now! Have an amazing day!

I was actually just talking with someone about how much running humbles you. You literally feel different every single run and it’s so crazy how it differs each day but that’s also the beauty of the sport in my opinion. My ultimate trail mix is a bag of m&ms…ha ha.

Reply

Your obsession with Bad at Love by Halsey is also mine. I heard it once and was totally hooked. Isn’t it funny how music takes us back to another place, another time, another run? I read somewhere if you want to know someone’s life story, listen to their music…every emotion of the events in their life will be on their playlist.

Reply

Seriously, you are so right… a playlist says SO much about a person and what they have been through!! So happy you are loving Bad at Love so much too, I listened to the song about 10 times this morning ha. I hope you are having a great day Kelly!

Reply

I am just like your friend – I HATE talking on the phone! I literally will not answer my phone unless I know why the person is calling or if it is my mom, dad, or sisters. I also don’t like texting though. I think I just hate phones and technology in general. I really don’t like being “available” all the time.

I’m pretty sure I’m going to have to add your chocolate covered raisons and that tomato basil soup to our Costco list for this weekend….

And also, that fried rice from Benihana places is the best. Especially with that ginger sauce they give you on the side!

Good job on the pancakes – so cute! Have a great day. :)

Reply

Dinner last night=tomato basil soup!(I get the Kroger, Simply Organic brand. No costco here!) It was sooooo delicious. I would have done grilled cheese too, but sadly I didn’t have any bread :(

I only talk on the phone to 4 people. Mom, Dad, my boyfriend(he currently lives many many miles away), and I Facetime with my 3 almost 4 y/o nephew! Anyone else…. I decline the call and text them ;)

Reply

THANK YOU FACETIME… we are so lucky to be able to do that:) Love your list of people:) Next time come over and we will make you a grilled cheese to go with your soup! Have an awesome day Alyssa!

Reply

I don’t talk on the phone often with people, but when I do call someone or someone calls me I could easily talk for an hour usually. HAHA

Reply

HAHAH yes, I am totally that way too! Once I get on… I can’t stop talking. I hope your day is a great one Alicia!

Reply

I talk on the phone a lot. My husband works 3 hours away from home so we talk all the time. My 8 year old son would think it is heaven if he could go to bed at 03h00 in the morning. He HATES going to bed.

Reply

YES… that is so Knox too!! 3 hours away… that is such a long commute! I’m glad you guys get to talk on the phone! I hope you are having a wonderful day Almarie!

Reply

I love going to Benihana type restaurants since I can see exactly what they use to cook the food plus it’s fun and I think you get your food faster. I mostly talk on the phone with my mom but my boyfriend and I call each other if we’re out and need a quick response from the other.
My ideal trail mix: Cashews, dark chocolate chips, sunflower seeds, the spicy bread stick things (I don’t know the actual name lol), and peanuts.

Reply

My parents are 700km away so they usually want to Skype, this way they can see their grand-son ;-) Knox’s sleep philosophy is pretty similar to my son’s ha The less the better ;-) Last night for dinner I made egg roll in a bowl (trending right now on social media ha) and it was salty, spicy and delicious. Just what I needed after a crossfit workout in this summer weather!

Reply

Great job on the dog pancakes! I kind of want some now too.

I’m with you on Benihana fried rice! I always say my dream would be to be able to eat that all the time and not get fat! :)

Reply

That stuff is so so good… I seriously want to go today just to get the fried rice:) I hope you get some soon Jen and that you have a beautiful day!

I love Feel it Still. The Fitness Marshall does a cardio dance to this and it makes me laugh every time. (it also gives me a good random cardio break).

I’m not fond of texting but I had a job where I had to make calls for hours every morning. It curbed my enthusiasm for phone calls as well. I would still rather send a quick email and be done with it. (I sound anti-social but I’m really not).

I had stomach troubles yesterday dinner was steamed spinach and poached chicken. My husband had grilled bbq chicken, spinach with garlic, potato, and a salad.

My ultimate trail mix is dried cherries (Unsweetened), dark chocolate chips, almonds, pumpkin seeds, goji berries, coconut, and cashews. (well, today anyway)

Reply

The panic is so real! I don’t know how I manage to accidentally call people, but it definitely happens and I freak out. I am not a fan of talking on the phone at all. I think when my husband and I got married, we had talked on the phone less than 5 times total. Ha! I’ve got some candy corn at the house and I’m thinking about adding peanuts to it. Does that count as trail mix? I sure hope so, because then I can justify candy corn as a healthy snack. Those puppy pancakes are absolutely adorable!

Reply

Chris had a work thing so Hope and I went for sandwiches and ice cream.
My sandwich was bacon, cheddar, spinach, avocado, tomato on a pretzel bun. It was pretty tasty.

Reply

I need that sandwich right this second. That sounds heavenly. I hope you three are having a beautiful day Erica!

I actually went out on a date night last night with my husband – celebrating our 25th wedding anniversary!! We went to a fancy restaurant, which was delicious, but I always have a hard time spending that kind of money on a meal. But hey, you only celebrate 25 yrs once, so do it up! :)
Those pancakes are awesome!!

Reply

I’m not a phone talker, and I never have been. If I had to pick someone that I talk to the most, it would definitely be my sister. She is only 2 years older than me, and we’re really close. I just wish she lived closer!

My little guy has never liked sleep! He is great about taking his nap, but at bedtime, he is always wired. At least, he sleeps through the night!

Dinner last night: broiled salmon, spinach salad (with tomatoes, green olives and cottage cheese) and some leftover mac & cheese. Delicious.

First off – I REALLY like those shoes you are wearing, the Revels? SO CUTE! I might have to get a pair for myself… except I just bought both colors of those ankle boots from Nordstrom last week so maybe I should chill on the shoes for a bit. Whoops!
I really only talk to my family over the phone… every now and then, one of my friends who lives a few hours away and I will chat on the phone, which can be a super long conversation, but usually we just text.
Trail mix – cashews (lightly salted), sunflower seeds (no salt), craisins, those sesame stick things, and macadamias. There’s a grocery store that I go to where you can make your own and this is the blend I make if I feel like forking over the money for all of that. SO GOOD!

Reply

Yes, they are the revels… I’m obsessed!
Enjoy your new boots from Nordstrom, the best! Your trail mix combo sounds really delicious! I hope you have a great day Rhiannon!

Our dog sleeps with us and she definitely snores! She is kind of weird because she likes to sleep with her entire body under the covers – even her head! I’m not sure how she can still breathe!
Thanks for sharing your playlist! I’ve been listening to country on my runs for some reason and I’m really liking it.
Love the pic of you and Andrew!
I talk on the phone a lot when I have a long car ride – usually to my parents, husband, or close friends that I don’t get to see very often! It’s a great way to keep in touch :)
Dinner last night was pot roast with carrots, potatoes, and mushrooms in the crockpot (so good), a salad, and cornbread muffins with corn mixed into the batter! (Have you ever tried this?!)
Enjoy your day!

I’d so rather text than talk. I have a hard time sitting still for long enough to talk and have a great convo. My mom and mother-in-law are the ones I talk to the most because she’s not an avid texter.

My ultimate trail mix: Pistachios, Almonds, Banana Chips, Dried Pineapple, and M&M’s (regular and peanut)

Turkey Tacos are a regular occurrence on Tuesday nights — last night was no exception. Lots of guac and extra lettuce in my taco — and I’m a happy girl!

Reply

I would much rather text than talk on the phone. Whenever I do need to call (to make appointments, etc.) it almost feels kind of strange. I can’t remember the last time a friend and I talked on the phone though – we’ve been texting for what seems like forever.

Reply

I prefer texting over talking on the phone. When I do talk on the phone it’s with H or work related stuff. If I don’t recognize the number, I’m not answering. Sometimes I don’t answer when I know the number HA!

I like almonds, cashews, walnuts, pecans, PB chips and coconut chips in my trail mix…maybe some mini M & Ms.

My dinner was very similar to yours…Potato soup, grilled cheese and a few raw veggies. I also had a kale/strawberry smoothie with Vega Sport protein powder. I like to have one after hard workouts to get some extra protein for recovery.

You are KILLING me with the pancakes!!! I’ve been craving them too :)

Reply

You need to have some pancakes asap Elizabeth! Maybe you should for lunch. Okay, your dinner sounds delicious, I need some potato soup asap. I also need your smoothie. Enjoy your day girl!

Reply

I hate talking on the phone to anyone except my own family. Like my parents and siblings and maybe one of my cousins. I don’t like to talk on the phone to anyone else and I have to do it way more than I like to.

Reply

I keep seeing that soup at Costco lately — I’m going to pick some up this weekend! They also have an organic vegetable + barley soup there that is AMAZING.

Reply

Okay, I need to try that one… that sounds delicious! Have a great day Laura!

Seriously. You would have thought I was doing yassos my heart rate was so high when I accidentally called you. I hung up so fast and Ross just stared at me like the crazy person that I am.

Evan puts himself to bed too. Anna would stay up all night if I let her. Especially if there is something going on. She has FOMO all the time.

Those pancakes are amazing. Your skills are off the chart.

Last night we had chili for dinner. It is Annabelle’s favorite meal (WHY?!) and I needed to pack all of her food for Clear Creek camp since she has allergies and this was an easy option for her to take and warm up there.

That peanut pazoola trail mix at Winco is my favorite: honey roasted peanuts, toffe covered peanuts, white chocolate covered peanuts and peanut m&ms. It is an excellent balance of peanuts and sugar. My favorite.

Reply

To be fair to Andrew, not all chocolate covered raisins are created equal (many are weird or yucky) and Costco’s Kirkland ones are particularly good. In fact, they are probably my very favorite of all the ones I’ve tried (I don’t shop around for them much either, though, so the sample size isn’t huge).

Reply

You are 100% right. Raisinettes are nothing compared to the ones from Costco. I hope you get some soon! Have an awesome day!

I TOTALLY panic when I accidentally press “call!” I am not a huge fan of talking on the phone. Since I have family and friends all around the continent, though, I have gotten a little more used to phone and facetime. I just prefer face-to-face conversations or quick emails!!
My ultimate trail mix has dried cherries, chocolate, and a lot of peanuts. I’ve found a few different brands with mixes like this and I am so obsessed.
I was super busy yesterday and ended up just having cereal and a protein shake for dinner:/ Tonight I’m making grilled tilapia and baked sweet potatoes though, so I’m looking forward to that!

Our dog sleeps in our bed. He is a nice small 65 pounds ;) For the most part, he is pretty quiet, but sometimes he will snore so loud that he wakes me up!
Not really a phone talker, unless it is my Mom. I typically see her about 3 times a year, so the phone and facetime are important to us.

My daughter, Brooke, gave up napping at 2.5 years old. It was a bit tragic. hahaha. She goes to bed about 8 and is up around 7.

Yay for swim lessons! We are doing that right now too. It has been pretty warm here, but we are looking at the 50s and 60s next week. Could make for a bit cooler lesson….outside. Thank goodness for heated pools ;)

Reply

This is hard but I think my favorite trail mix would have to be: banana chips, yogurt covered cranberries, dark chocolate chips, walnuts, macadamia nuts, almonds, cashews, dried mango, and coconut pieces :)

I’m getting hungry just thinking about it now!

Reply

The Beretta pancakes are cuter-than-cute!!!
Phone calls… I really don’t like them. Maybe from working in call centers for several years?
Kid sleeping patterns are all over the map at my house: 9 y.o. is up early and fights bedtime, 14 y.o. is conscientious about bedtime and (so far) pretty good about getting up for school since it’s an earlier time this year, 19 y.o. has 2 jobs and still wants to stay up/out late many nights. I’m pretty sleep deprived these days!
Best trail mix is dried strawberries, kiwi, mango, papaya, and banana chips with walnuts & cashews! I believe Kirkland used to sell it–not sure anymore.
Turkey sandwich dinner FTW!

My daughter is exactly like me, a true blue night owl…exactly like Knox, we have tons of energy at night! My son on the other hand is just like Brooke.

I don’t like talking on the phone and avoid it at all costs except with my mom and dad who are old school and really aren’t into texting. And I know they really want to hear my voice which is super sweet.

Your Beretta pancakes are exceptional :)

Phone talking was the way to go a long while back. Now I phone talk with family (I live overseas) when I am cooking dinner, but usually it’s messaging.

Last night’s dinner was a mashed potato and veggie bowl. Extremely dopey but very delicious in between getting home from XC practice and having to go pick up one of the kiddos from a youth group activity. Oh, and homemade bread toasted with butter.

Love love love trail mix. Cashews need to be in it for sure. I do like the combo of cashews, white choc chips, dried cranberries and peanuts or peanut butter chips. BUT, you can’t go wrong with peanuts and mm’s. I love to mix things up-dried pineapple, coconut chips, cashews, white chocolate. Or, cereal train mix-granola clusters, cinnamon chex, almonds, dried blueberries or even dried mango.
I have one horrible sleeper out of four. He’s the great sleep hold out……..

Reply

The picture of the school pep talk must really tug at your heart strings. Just love it. I think if I was going to make my own trail mix it would contain peanut M&Ms, granola, and raisins. Hmmm I might actually have to put that together!

I laughed out loud about ending a mistaken call! I have done that at all hours. Then after the panic, I wonder if I should have just stayed on and apologized. Nope – too embarrassed. :)

Reply

You know there is a Benihana in salt lake, right?? It is our fave and now I’m thinking we need a date night there this week ?

Reply

AHHHHH I forgot. Turns out we need to make the trip up there. YES, go there for date night Mindy and tell me all about the fried rice afterwards!

Reply

Lol at the call meme! Yes i know that panic very well. I prefer not to talk on the phone unless its a special circumstance or something. Oh I’ve been running 7 miles every day, it seems to be my perfect distance :)

Reply

My dream trail mix would be cashews, cashews, and cashews! Ok but for real I think roasted cashews, white chocolate chunks, coconut, and dried mango! Tropical heaven!

Reply

If you put the pancake batter in a squeeze bottle like the ones for ketchup and mustard, you can make all kinds of cool pancake designs.
