Comparing courses + my current favorite quotes + lots of workouts for you to try + tasted as good as I had imagined.

I’ve got a new BABY update HERE!  26 week update and comparison problems!

———————————————————————————

A wonderful treadmill run Wednesday morning.  I have officially started wearing capris while running and my chafing skin is loving it:)  Pregnancy has made my skin so sensitive and I chafe like crazy (I feel like I’ve tried everything) so I’m just switching up between capris and shorts instead of shorts every day and that is helping!

I hit up the treadmill yesterday for two reasons:  It was really smokey outside (I don’t know if you can tell from the picture below) + I wanted to get in my run before the sun came up.

IMG 5034

The three fans that keep me from overheating during the run.  I’m very grateful for them.  They work miracles.

PicMonkey Collage

7.5 miles total for the day (my longest run in a little while by .5 miles)!  I go back and forth on my final decision of whether or not the treadmill is easier than running outside.  Maybe it just depends on whether I’m personally having a good or bad running day.  I used to do most of my treadmill runs at a 1% incline (unless I was doing short/fast intervals) but now I’m using a .5% incline.

IMG 5016

PS if you are in need of some KILLER workouts to do on the treadmill… I’ve got A TON of them on this post HERE!!!!

NewImage

A morning hello from Brookers—> I’ve had quite a few nicknames for her over the years and I’ve already started coming up with nicknames for our new little girl.  My current nickname for Knox is Knoxo Knoxo Man (sung like the Macho Man song because he loves that song).

IMG 5033

Turns out Knox was pretty excited about his new Michael Jackson movie:)  He said it was his best day ever.

IMG 5035

We then set out to get a bunch of things done around town with the kids.

IMG 5066

I think we are going to have to start decorating now for Halloween… the happiness that Halloween brings Knox is amazing.

IMG 5075

I was really craving an acaí bowl. It tasted just as good as I had imagined for the previous 10 hours.

IMG 5063

But then I was still hungry and we weren’t going to be home for a while… TACOS.

IMG 5064

Finally we were home and all ready for some couch time with a good book about Timon and Pumbaa.

IMG 5081

Thank you family for dealing with me at night when nothing sounds good but something super simple:)

IMG 5085

The first candy corn of the season, kind of a big deal over here.

IMG 5087

I wanted to hear who is training for Chicago or New York this year!  My goal is to do all five (I’ve done two so far) of the World Marathon Majors someday:)  I love this course comparison on elevation and this post HERE (an awesome blog) is all about the Runners Choice Awards for each of these five marathons.   According to the post (along with many more awards!), Tokyo has the best course fuel (like tomatoes!?!) London has the best crowds, NYC has the best course, Boston was the most emotional and Berlin is the best for a PR!

IMG 0075

PS who is signing up for Boston!?!  I will say I am quite tempted to but 2019 might just have to be my year!

I wanted to share with you today two quotes that I saw yesterday and ABSOLUTELY LOVED.

One last reminder to check out my latest BABY UPDATE!

———————————————————————————

Who is training for the Chicago or NYC Marathon right now?!  Who has done any of the World Marathon Majors?  Which one was your favorite?  Would you agree with the choice awards given to the different races?

Who is going to be signing up for Boston 2018?

Who has a treadmill set up at home… where in your house is it?  Do you have a bunch of fans too?

What were your nicknames growing up?

-Babycakes and palm tree head (both nicknames from my dad) and nae-nae.

I LOVE those quotes, especially the one by Bob Goff. His book “Love Does” is so incredible.

Growing up (and still to this day), people called me NatMer and Nattles. I love both of those, and my mom always calls me Naminoo. Nicknames are my favorites, and I usually immediately come up with nicknames for people as soon as we become friends.

NY – First time doing NY and I am so excited! Any tips specific to NY would be appreciated! I live in Florida so hoping for a nice cool run! Training has been a beast in this heat!

TARA!!! I am seriously so so excited for you to run NY! I have my post from the race here:

https://hungryrunnergirl.com/2011/11/nyc-marathon-recap.html

And I’ll write up a post about my tips etc. The weather is going to feel like heaven for you. Way to go training in the heat… you are STRONG! I hope you are having an amazing day!

Thank you! I am super excited too! Thanks for the link to your recap as well!

Yes to grilled cheese and soup! I’ve been sick the last couple days with a cold and that’s about all that sounds good for dinner :)
My treadmill is in the basement – it’s not finished, so there’s no central air down there. I have a built in fan and one that plugs into the wall when I run on it! Thanks for the treadmill workouts – they are going to come in handy when winter comes!
I didn’t have any nicknames :( Although my husband calls me “princess” now but I think it’s just to make fun of me!
Have a great day!

Reply

I will run NY this year – woohoo :D
I qualified by time and was so excited that my husband was lucky in the drawing – this fall will be the most exciting (and exhausting) running season ever for me I guess.

If you ever plan to run Berlin –> feel free to contact me, I would love to offer our guestroom to you for your time in Germany ;)

Reply

SARAH! I am so excited for you to run NY this year! That is so great that your husband got in too! I love it. Ummmmm yes to Berlin! Plan on it:) Thanks Sarah!

Reply

I am training for New York – it is my first ever marathon! Extremely excited, but definitely nervous.
I’m just hoping to get through it lol

Reply

SOPH!!! So so happy for you that you are going to be running the NYC Marathon! Please keep me updated with how your training is going and I want to hear all about the race. You’ve got this! The crowds and all of the energy will help you when it gets hard!

Reply

I am training for Chicago! Only 4.5 weeks away! This will be my 3rd marathon, but 4th that I’ve trained for (I got sick last year with the flu the day before the Richmond marathon), so I am VERY excited! Hoping for some redemption and an awesome course with great crowds!

Reply

You are so close to Chicago! I want to hear all about the race and you can give me some tips! Oh that stinks about Richmond last year but you are proving there is always another race. Good luck Robyn!

Reply

My treadmill is in the basement. It has the fan that came with it and I have another fan for when I need the extra cool blast.

Nina actually is my nickname. Neen and Bonker were other nicknames. (my mom called me Nina Beena Bonker until I told someone that was my name. I was 3, what did I know)? She blamed it on t.v.

Reply

I didn’t know Nina was your nickname! I love all of the nicknames you have had! I hope you have a beautiful day!!

Reply

My given name is Janine. I use Janine and Nina interchangeably, which can be confusing for people who have just met me.

Reply

Do the Chicago marathon!! I volunteered at it for 3 years and it’s the best. I’m definitely not biased about it at all considering I grew up there ;) I haven’t done a marathon but am currently looking for one to train for (hopefully in the spring!). If you ever run it, I would absolutely love to give you ideas for things to do while in the city.

My nickname growing up (and now still) is Mo.

If you have any suggestions for doing a marathon without doing a half first I’d love to hear them! Or the benefits to training for a half that’s about 2 months before a full, those too. Have a great day Janae :)

Reply

I’m training for Chicago!! This will be my second marathon and first World Major Marathon. So excited!! I have heard such amazing things about the course and crowd support so I can’t wait. I would love to run the other World Majors some day too.

Reply

Elise, I am SO excited for you to run Chicago. I want to hear all about it after please:) Enjoy every mile!

Reply

I’m training for Chicago this year!! Only one more month to go!
I put London 2019 on my bucket list earlier this year, and after reading a bunch of stories of those who have run all the world majors, I want to attempt to run them all too!

Reply

Kori, GOOD LUCK in one month! I am so excited for you and you will have to give me your tips before I do it one of these years:) It’s totally on my bucket list too to run them all! Hopefully we do one of them the same year:) I hope you are having a great day!

Reply

No big marathons for me — I’m a slow runner and proud of it! But that also means I stick to smaller and more local race. Good luck to you all who are sign up!

I don’t have my own treadmill at home (teacher salary doesn’t have enough wiggle room) — but I use the small gym at school and they have monster fans. When it’s a slow day, I steal all four fans and point them at my one treadmill! Ha!

Susie Q! And my family and friends would sing the song at me whenever they needed me… “Oh Suzie Q…”

Reply

I did Boston in 2015 – same year as you! Despite the rain, I absolutely loved it. I also was in London this past April and got to watch the London Marathon! It inspired me to make plans for a few destination races eventually (I am from Boston and the furthest I’ve traveled for a race has been for the NYC half). I think doing all 5 of those marathons would be incredible!

Reply

AHHHH I wish we would have met at Boston! I agree, even with the crazy weather… I LOVED that race. That must have been amazing to watch the London Marathon. Let’s do all 5!! Have a great day Katrina!

Reply

My childhood nickname was Lolo and now that’s what my niece calls me!

Reply

I am training for NYC! It is my second full marathon and I’m super excited (and a bit intimidated but such a large crowd).

Reply

ELISABETH!!!! I am SO excited for you! You are going to love it! How is your training going? Take energy from the crowds!!!

Reply

I am training for New York City! My second marathon- I am very nervous! Luckily I live here and can train on the course :)

Reply

AHHH KELSEY!! Good luck! I am so excited. That marathon is something else and it is probably even more special to you since you live there. Keep me updated with how your training is going. You are going to rock it and you are ready for the central park hills at the end since you get to practice them!

Reply

Those elevation charts are so cool! The only major I have done so far is Chicago. I wanted to LOVE it but I just didn’t have a great race day so I think that’s affecting my thoughts about it. I’ll have to try it again sometime. I also really want to do New York for the obvious reasons and because I grew up outside of the city and have a bunch of friends/ family there still. Also not quite speedy enough for Boston yet but qualifying is on my long-term bucket list. So that’s the one I’m most excited to do someday!

Also, Brooke’s expressions in the pictures from your last few blog posts are killing me. Too cute!!

Reply

Haha she is loving making different faces lately and I love it too! Oh bummer that Chicago wasn’t a great day for you! Oh I hope you get to do NY soon… that would be amazing for you since you grew up close by! Keep me updated on how all of your training/running is going! Thanks Diana!

Reply

I’ve run New York City 3 times. I would love to run Chicago someday.
In High School some friends called me Salamander and Sally-LLama.
My niece and my boyfriend’s daughters call me Sal-Pal which I LOVE!

Reply

THREE TIMES… that is seriously so awesome Sally:) Oh I love your nickname! I hope you are having a great day so far!

Reply

I have those Brooks capris and like them a lot. I feel as though they are thick and not see through, I’ve always wanted to do Chicago. NYCM was my first marathon and I had an incredible experience.

Reply

Yes yes yes about the capris. I love all of their capris. Wanna do Chicago the same year together?

Reply

I think I need to invest in a fan after seeing all 3 of yours. My treadmill is in the basement (so it’s cooler) and there is a tv mounted in front of it to get me through the early miles. We have a trail next to our house but a girl was attacked on it this summer so I’ve been doing a lot more treadmill runs lately.

Reply

That sounds like a great set-up for your treadmill! Add some fans too! Oh that is awful about the girl that was attacked on the trail by you. So scary.

I hope you are having a great day Ali!

I’ve done Boston and NYC and I would love to do Chicago … maybe next year! I loved the NYC course! It was amazing. I rode the struggle bus for approximately 22 out of 26.2 miles when I was in Boston, so I think my assessment of that course probably wouldn’t be fair. I guess I just need to do it again for redemption. Sadly, I haven’t run a marathon in the last 2 years, so I don’t even have a qualifier right now. Maybe 2019 will be my year too :) Our treadmill is in a spare bedroom and it gets TOASTY in there (even w/ fans)! I think I sweat more running inside than outside sometimes, which makes zero sense to me. My dad still calls me Kid and my mom calls me Boo or Buttercup <3

Reply

I am training for Chicago! I want to do the marathon majors so bad!! Last year I put my name in for the lottery on all of them, but I’ve only done Chicago & Boston since you time qualify for those. Although I learned you can do 1:32 half to get into New york, so I think that shall be my new goal!

Reply

AHHH Jennifer! Good luck at Chicago and all of the training to get there! YES, go for the 1:32 half for NYC! Keep me updated on everything, I am so excited for you!

Reply

I so hope that Knox dresses up like Michael Jackson for halloween!
Also, if Brooke went as Beretta, I think the internet may explode.

Reply

AHHHH we already bought their costumes but those are both BRILLIANT costume ideas so we might have to do two costumes this year. Hahah thank you Sage!

Reply

I cannot wait for you to do Chicago! I will come cheer and I am great at baby holding or kiddo entertaining while mama runs. :)
Have a great day.
One of my favorite quotes states just what you discovered: “Two things prevent us from happiness; living in the past and observing others.” Paulo Coelho.

Seriously, Erica… I am thinking 2018 or 2019:) Plan on it:) I LOVE that quote you just shared… so perfect. Thank you Erica and I hope you are having an amazing day!

The air is TERRIBLE right now. I moved my run inside too and I’m not looking forward to my long run for the week being inside tomorrow.
My nick name was always Jenbug.

That quote at the end is exactly what I needed to see this morning! Thank you so much.

You are welcome Sarah! You are AMAZING! I hope you have a great day:)

Knox’s love of MJ is so adorable! I remember one of my brothers going through an MJ phase when we were kids and wearing one glove around for months.
I haven’t run any of those races…yet! I really want to run Boston on a charity team, this year, though! and New York and London are also goals of mine.
I wish I had a treadmill at home, but right now I live in a third floor apartment and I don’t think my downstairs neighbors would appreciate it. I hit the treadmill in front of the windows at the gym, though; makes me feel like I am outside!!

Reply

I have a treadmill at home…….in our office, with a picture of a trail hung right in front of it so I can pretend I am outside. I only have one fan, maybe I need more! I can’t stay more than 3 miles on it……I get bored!

My nickname has always been Bug or Bugbeth. I used to be embarrassed by it but now it’s fine. A few folks call me LB, that makes me think of the little sister in Juno……Liberty Bell. Ha!

Reply

Training for Chicago! Second time running it – last time was AMAZING!!! I have run a bunch of marathons (but not NY or Boston) and the energy and support on the course in Chicago is second to none IMO. And it’s super flat, which is never a bad thing. :) Hoping the starts align and I get a BQ this time around. Fingers crossed!

Reply

GOOD LUCK NICOLE!! I am so excited for you. You will have to share all of your tips with me when I come out and do it! Let me know how the race goes and I can’t wait to hear about your BQ!

Reply

First time running NY, I was supposed to run it the year it was cancelled due to Hurricane Sandy so this year I am super excited!! I have heard such great things about this race… but looking at that elevation chart I am starting to get nervous!

That grilled cheese sandwich looks amazing! For me, treadmill running is so much easier than outdoor running. Especially in the summer when horseflies eat me alive outside!

My running partner/friend/mentor is currently training for NYC. He’s ran Chicago and Boston and his retirement goal is to run all of the majors! So he still has Berlin, London, and Tokyo. I tell him I want to be like him when I grow up! I’m currently training for CIM in December and my ultimate goal is to qualify for Boston.

I have a treadmill in our office/work out room and thank goodness that it has fans built into it! I’m also known to turn down our AC to about 75 when I’m on that thing.

My nickname was and still is Riss (short for Marissa). I call my kiddos all kinds of nicknames. Braids and EB for Braden, Mads and Mady for Madison, and Luke is and will always be Lukey Bear :)

Reply

I’ve done Chicago, NYC and Boston. I’ve been putting in for the London marathon lottery for a couple years now and haven’t been selected. From what I hear it’s near impossible to get in b/c there are so many charity runners so I guess if I want to do it that bad I’ll have to go that route. Berlin and Tokyo are on the radar but am going to wait for my 4yo daughter to get a little older so she can come along and enjoy the sites.

So, the house we bought a few years ago has a really huge closet (like, 6X8 feet) and we put our treadmill and spin bike in there with a tv on the wall. It’s a bit crowded but it works (the former owners stored all their Christmas stuff in it). I used to use the fan on my treadmill but I would never sweat and then my hands and legs would swell. I stopped using the fan, started sweating a ton, and the uncomfortable swelling went away. Trade off, I guess. ?‍♀️

I’m training for New York right now! Can’t believe it’s in LESS THAN 2 months. It’s my first marathon ever too.

Love those quotes, going to save for a rainy day :) Thanks for posting!!

Reply

I am registering for Boston!! It’ll be my first Boston! But I’m currently injured so I am SO NERVOUS that I won’t be healed in time to start training :( , but at least I’ll always know I got in :).

Reply

I had to laugh at your treadmill talk because I recently wrote 10 things I love about treadmill running, even though I know it’s an unpopular opinion!! ? 2 fans, water bottle, Netflix on TV (I won my TV and 5 years of Netflix from Ellen a few years ago! Dreams do come true!! ?), and plenty of toys for my toddler = perfection!

Training for Chicago and it’s the best race there is :)

Reply

I’m signing up for my first (possibly only one ever) Boston!!! I’m so excited about it. Can’t wait!!

I don’t have a treadmill, but I do have a gym less than 5 minutes away, so that’s kind of close There are some days where I’m definitely in the mood for a treadmill run – like when I have a workout where I have to make paces and it’s too dark outside, the treadmill wins! I HOPE to run Boston 2018 – I’m trying to qualify in October at the Columbus Marathon :) Maybe I’ll see you there with your newest sweet addition! Love the pregnancy posts, btw :) Has your sweet tooth come back yet? I haven’t seen too many Swedish fish or candy photos in a while, but maybe I missed them?!

Hi Jenae! Congrats on entering your 3rd trimester!
I don’t know if anyone has mentioned yet or not, but there are actually 6 Marathons that comprises of the Abbott World Marathons. You left out the wonderful Chicago Marathon!!!
This will be my 2nd year to run it. I ran New York, and will run Boston in 2018. Chicago is the absolute flattest course I have ever been on. Since you run in the mountains, you could totally slay in Chicago!
This has been a tough training season for me. I’ve had to train alone. I do enjoy alone runs sometimes, but too many in a row and I crave the company of my peeps.
That’s when I have to read quotes like the ones you posted! They are sometimes what keeps me going!
Thank you !!!

I have a Knox too. I call him Knoxy, Knoxy man, and Knoxy-roo.

Chicago was my third marathon and first time breaking 4 hours. The crowds are amazing! Fast forward a couple years, I qualified for Boston and ran it in 2017. Very warm day for April. Made the most of the experience and PW’d by 30 minutes. Did not care. Loved the experience…and no way I was not going to DNF. Everyone should experience Chicago at least once. I will be back in a year or 2 when I turn 50.

Reply

I’m training for Chicago–it will be my 3rd marathon and I’m going for a sub-4 (which was my goal with my second one but then I had a tibial stress fracture and ended up walking a lot of the last 2 miles…yeah, that was not fun!). Training has been going really well but we just decided three days ago we were moving so yeah, that’s great timing–I spent my rest day today house hunting with the realtor!! And I have a nursing baby who i really need to wean before Chicago (he will be 12 months old) and I’m refusing to think about it, which is not a good solution for either of us. ??

I am a HUGE fan of fans for the TM and basically go insane if someone accidentally turns off the fan while I’m running! I like the TM better for pregnant running but I am soooo much faster outside that the TM is better for easy runs for me these days–it’s nice to just set the easy pace and stay there since I always tend to go too fast.

My son LOVED Halloween at that age (and for many more years!) we would spend HOURS in the Halloween stores!

Reply

I’m running Chicago this year for the first time. It will be my second marathon, but have done many halfs. So exited for the crowds and excitement. I feel like it is a bucket list race!

I am running the Chicago Marathon for the first time in a month! I can’t wait. Looking at the flat course makes me even more excited!

This tank from Old Navy is featured heavily in my rotation and has a high neck line. I have been meaning to go pick up 4-5 more!

Nicknames: Big Red, Ging

I do have a treadmill at home. It’s in our laundry room – no fans set up – I just rely on the one in the treadmill, and it works pretty good.

Have a nice weekend!

I am doing NYC this year and I can’t believe it is less than 2 months away!! ??? I also have a goal of doing all 6 races and getting that six star medal! I did Boston in 2016 and next year will hopefully be Chicago. After that it is just a matter of which race I can get into first… but I’m thinking probably Tokyo will be first, then hopefully Berlin. I need to really work on my speed (and my luck!!)
Oh nicknames! Am – first given to me by my brother who couldn’t say Annemarie, but has been adopted by just about everyone I know ? I am also affectionately known as Kenya by a couple of my friends, not b/c I’m fast though, but only b/c I am a lot faster than THEM …LOL

Reply

You know there are 6 world marathon majors now, right? I’ve only done 4 so far — Boston, Chicago, NY, and Berlin. I’d have to agree about Boston being most emotional, NY being best course, and Berlin being the best for a PR! Although actually, NY was a PR when I ran it, then Boston was a PR, then Berlin was a PR, but I’ve never beaten my Berlin time, so I think it will probably be my lifetime PR!

I’m in the lottery for London this year, find out in less than a month!

I am training for NYC – my third and final marathon! My first was in 1995, my second in 2011 and this one, my last, one month shy of my 56 birthday!
