A new HRG BABY post is up HERE!!! I’m talking about my 22 week update and pregnant running (the why and the how)!!  Check it out!

———————————————————————————————-

I’ve got the top 15 pictures from our day yesterday to share with you!  I hope your Thursday is an amazing one so far!

1.  Let’s start out with the most exciting part of our day yesterday… we went to see JIMMY EAT WORLD last night!  We’ll talk more about that in a second!

2.  The day started off first with 7 miles (9:22 pace of course because heaven forbid my body wanting to do anything besides that right now) around the neighborhoods.

IMG 2612

3.  We cleaned the entire house afterwards.  Brooke is not excited to start doing chores but once we get going she tells me ‘this is fun’ so I’m just going to hold onto that for awhile.  Cleaning rooms is never something our kids look forward too… I would love to hear in the comments what you do for your kids.

IMG 2598

4.  Afterwards Brooke asked me if the baby needed to cool off and then she placed her mini fan right next to my belly.

IMG 2622

5.  I ate a salad for lunch yesterday which hasn’t happened in a long time… I used to have a salad daily for lunch and maybe I’ll start having them more often again.  Romaine, spinach, cucumbers, peppers, cottage cheese, grapes, chicken, strawberries and poppyseed dressing.

IMG 2620

6.  Took these two to the mall to run around.

IMG 2629

7.  One of the malls around here has a huge outside play area connected to an indoor play area so I just lie on the bench and watch them run around like crazy.

IMG 2631

8.  Pretzel bites are always a part of our mall trips too.  I just can’t pass up these fluffy bites of goodness.  The baby was kicking around like CRAZY after I ate these:)

IMG 2630

9.  We all took a little rest after the mall and then Andrew’s cousin came over to hang out with the kids for a while.

IMG 2634

10.  I packed some dinner for the car on the way to the concert… keeping things fancy with a peanut butter and jelly sandwich.

IMG 2641

11.  We had planned on grabbing a jamba juice on the way up to drink in the car but then there was a Chipotle next door to Jamba juice.  We decided a burrito > a smoothie so I had a chicken burrito after my appetizer of a pb sandwich;)  I will take back after this burrito my comments previously (on my unpopular opinions post here ((super fun post to read and the comments are AWESOME)) about Chipotle.  Maybe I just don’t love the burrito bowls because this was delicious or maybe I just really love food to an extreme now.

IMG 2647

12.  Always a good sign on your way to an outdoor concert:)

IMG 2650

13.  Luckily the rain stopped for a little bit!  Talk about a gorgeous concert venue!!

IMG 2654

14.  We got to go with THE Megan D and her husband.

IMG 2655

15. We LOVED Jimmy Eat World and left after a few of the Incubus songs but hey… I lasted until after 10 last night, that is a huge improvement.  Jimmy Eat World was amazing!   Our second time going to see them together!

One last reminder that a new HRG BABY post is up today—> HERE!!!

Parents reading… how often do your kids clean their rooms?  Have any tips to help our kids make this process a bit easier!?!?  What are your rules on chores/cleaning rooms?

Chipotle—>  yay or nay?  What do you order there?

When you make a salad at home… what are your go to toppings/dressings?

What is your Thursday workout going to be?  I’m thinking a treadmill run is in the cards for me today!

I love Jimmy Eat World! I still love all the same bands/albums I did in high school ;) So happy you guys lucked out with the weather once you got there!

Thursday workout is going to be a treadmill run for sure (maybe if it’s not too humid this afternoon I’ll run outside, but we’ll see!)

I don’t have kiddos of my own yet, but I do help take care of my 11 year-old niece. I find it really helpful to prompt her to neaten up daily/right after she finishes playing. And I make a big deal and reward her whenever she does a good job keeping her things neat, ESPECIALLY if she does it without being asked.
I love chipotle!! it’s pretty big in the boston area. I get a salad bowl with guac and chicken.
I always keep peppers, tomatoes, cucumbers, and grilled chicken on hand. Lately I’ve also kept some craisins and walnuts on hand as well. I bring salads to work every day while I’m teaching so I go through a lot of salad phases; quinoa, avocado, sweet corn, feta, taco meat…all made appearances last school year
I did my second round of post-injury walk/running yesterday (hooray!) so today I’m hitting a spin class then helping my friend move. Happy Thursday!

I think we need to do this daily too because otherwise it turns into the biggest mess! Thanks for sharing Kerri what you do with your niece! Come make salads for me… all of those toppings sound amazing! YAY for your second run/walk yesterday… so excited for you!

I like Chipotle but I don’t go out of my way to have it if that makes sense. Although I am basically obsessed with their hot salsa and would love if they could just sell it because I would buy it by the bucket :)
An outdoor concert is the most summer thing ever and Jimmy Eat World is awesome. I’m glad it didn’t rain while there. Unfortunately I can’t help you with easy ways to have the kids clean their room. I hated that chore when growing up. You could try to give them an incentive, like if they clean their room they can have ice cream afterwards.
Have a great day!

What a fun concert!! I would have loved that. I like outdoor concerts way more than indoor ones. There is a really popular outdoor venue close to my house and my friends and I almost always buy lawn seats (because they are cheap and it is actually more fun than sitting in the pavilion), but there have been a handful of times where we have definitely sat through a concert in the rain haha.

I am not a Chipotle fan at all…I’ve tried so many different things there and I just don’t like anything except their chips and hot salsa. But I do really like Salsarita’s. Do you have that by you?

I did a really intense bootcamp class yesterday, so today I’m just going to a yoga class this evening after work with my mom. :) Have an awesome day!

Whenever I make salads at home, I use even Greek dressing or a homemade dressing recipe we found years ago online. I like to have a lot of toppings and end up adding goat cheese and roasted vegetables most of the time.

It sounds like you had a great day Janae. I always find that the sky after a storm is super pretty like that!

I love Jimmy Eat World! So jealous you got to see them in concert! Their music got me through some rough breakups back in the day ;)
I am all about having a clean house, my (future) children are definitely going to be cleaning their rooms….and helping with chores around the house!
I still love chipotle, I feel like they are really getting a bad rap right now. I order the burrito bowl with chicken and lots of guac!

Reply

I love Chipotle. I usually get a salad with steak and guac. No sour cream or cheese though. And the salsa verde.

At home my salads are boring. Romaine, Spinach, tomato and cuke.

I’m taking a rest day today. Yesterday I swam and did yoga and my calves are tight and my right arch hurts. Listening to my body.

I have 2 little ladies at home and they share a bedroom. They have to clean their bedroom every Friday afternoon/evening. I have my older one put away the clothes and the little one puts away the shoes and arranges all the stuffed animals neatly. They each make their own beds and take all the dirty clothes to the laundry room. Once all that is done they put away any extra toys in the playroom and it is up to them to divide out who puts what away. It’s a pretty good system that they don’t love but they know Friday night movie time doesn’t start until bedrooms are cleaned and I use that as motivation to keep them moving.

Reply

I love that method that you have Courtney with your two kids! Thank you for sharing… seems perfect! Movie time is definitely a big motivator for our kids too!

Reply

SO SO fun that you got to go see Jimmy Eat World. They are my jam. And Incubus was there, too?? I wish I could have seen that live!

I am not as big of a fan as most people when it comes to Chipotle, but I do like it. Especially THE GUAC!!

Reply

My kids are 12 and 14 years old. My daughter (14) likes to keep her room cleaned, and actually organizes other things in our house (the junk drawer, the art supplies area..) but my son has Legos and clothes all over the place! I think it’s a boy thing. I used to think it was really bad until I saw other kid’s rooms and now I don’t think it’s bad at all! But if I could get him to make his bed I think the room would look hugely improved!

Reply

My kids have always had to make their beds and pick up dirty clothes, etc before they leave the house in the mornings. Then every Saturday morning, before any other activities, they clean their bathroom, change the sheets, vacuum, etc in their rooms. So far it’s worked really well as they know what’s expected and it just gets done. Not always with a smile, but it’s done. They also know that if it’s not done before a friend comes over, the friend will sit and watch as my kids finish their jobs. I’m a little mean that way :) But then again, they’ve never had to clean in front of a friend and they’ve never been late for an activity.

Reply

I love that Susan…. thank you for sharing what you guys do because this sounds perfect for us! I love the rule about friends having to watch your kids as they finish their jobs… Great way to get them to do it before the friends come over! I hope you are having a great day!

Reply

Yessss to those pretzel bites!
Your salad looks so good! I love fruit mixed with poppyseed dressing on salads!
I like Chipotle but don’t LOVE it.

Reply

Here the debate is always Chipotle vs Qdoba. Chipotle has (slightly) better guac but Qdoba has queso. If I compare a regular chicken burrito bowl, I truly think they are about the same. But when you add queso to your chicken burrito bowl…Qdoba wins. I really like both of them but we don’t eat out much so visits are rare – like last night’s Qdoba “oh, crap, I don’t have tortellinis for dinner recipe and we’re at practice until 7:30” snafu or the fundraisers that Chipotle excellently does for the boys’ sports teams.
99% of my salads are: spinach, tomato, cucumber, yellow or orange bell pepper. I make a big bowl and keep it in the fridge to eat for 2-3 days.

Reply

Oh that is an interesting debate! We don’t have Qdoba here (that I know of) but that queso chicken burrito bowl sounds like heaven! Wounds like the perfect salad! I hope you have an amazing day!

That storm was crazy last night! It’s been a long time since we had a good storm.

I have one daughter who doesn’t like cleaning up and one who hates it! It doesn’t make any sense to me because when they were both my sons age they both loved helping clean. Now it’s a battle every time

That concert looks like so much fun! I did an arm workout this morning to rest my legs from my 15 miler yesterday (while listening to your awesome podcast! :) Have a great day, Janae!

Reply

Oh I am glad you listened to the podcast! WAY TO GO ON YOUR 15 miler Emily, that is awesome!!! Keep resting those legs!

Reply

Ok my husband and I have been having this ongoing debate…what utensils do you use to make a PBJ? One knife, two? Other friends swear by one spoon, one knife…I’m curious! Everyone has a method but so far we are both stubbornly sticking to our own :)

Reply

THIS IS A GREAT DEBATE… interesting! I do two knives! I think Andrew does the one knife/one spoon thing. I need to ask everyone on a blog post one day. Thanks Rachel! I hope you have a beautiful day!

Reply

So interesting! I use one knife, my husband swears by two…if you make this a question on your blog one day I will read every single comment! Lol hope you have a great day too!

My workout for today is going to be the bike at the gym after work. I have a short day today so I’ll be able to get to the gym before the after work rush!

Reply

Yay for Jimmy Eat World!! Looks like the weather was perfect. It’s still super hot here in TX

I’m okay with Chipotle once or twice a month. I like the chips, hot salsa and guac. I like Costa Vida much better for that type of food and they have queso and black beans, which I prefer over pinto.

My salads are pretty basic. I try get lots of color with greens and peppers, maybe some purple cabbage. I like crunchy salads and it must include some sort of meat and cheese. I love a good steak salad!! At home always use olive oil and balsamic vinegar. For some reason, I don’t like the taste of salad dressing from a bottle.

Tonight’s workout is a Threshold workout (4×1600) and I am a little scared…HA! I have to work hard. Friday is my rest day…YAY!!

I read the HRG Baby post too. You look adorable!! I’m so glad you are enjoying this pregnancy and that you are able to run. SO excited for the whole family! That sweet little girl is already loved by so many :)

Reply

Oh thank you so so much Elizabeth! You are the sweetest:) LET ME KNOW how your threshold workout goes… you are going to ROCK IT! Enjoy that rest day tomorrow (and remind yourself during your hard workout today that tomorrow you get to rest… that always helps me to push myself harder). I hope it starts cooling down soon in Texas:) Enjoy your day and I AGREE… Costa Vida is so much better!

Looks like such a fun concert!! Glad it turned out to be a beautiful night.

My favorite salad toppings are avocado and strawberries! I also love balsamic dressing :)

My kids (5&3) have to have their rooms clean and beds made before the can have any screen time or play with friends. I am not too strict right now on how they clean–a lot of time they stuff things in drawers or my son just puts things from the floor onto his dresser or bed and I help put them away after. I’m just trying to build the habit right now. Or I go in and direct them and help a little, especially with straightening bedding.
Chipotle isn’t my favorite, I prefer cafe rio or Costa vida, but I don’t Dislike it.

Reply

Okay, I love that Karin… That sounds like a perfect idea for us. Thanks for sharing Karin! That is what we are wanting to do build habits! I agree cafe rio + costa vida MUCH > Chipotle! I hope you have a great day Karin!

Looks like a great time at the concert! So glad it stopped raining for a time! There is a dressing I am trying to reproduce from one of my favorite restaurants, Nice Guys Pizza, their White Balsamic vinaigrette is amazing on all their salads, and they told me what was in it, but I haven’t perfected the ratios yet. I have a day off from work today and I am supposed to clean the house. We haven’t had kids yet, so I am on my own there, and unfortunately have no tips for you. How do you motivate yourself to get started?

Reply

Share the recipe with me once you figure it out… sounds delicious!!! Turn on some great music and just start… once I get going I am crazy and can’t stop until it is done. Also, I think you should have a great reward for yourself afterwards since it is your day off!!! Go get a pedicure after or a delicious lunch or something! Thanks Aimee!

Reply

We don’t have Cafe Rio here but your posts always make it look 100x’s more delicious than Chipotle, where everything tastes exactly the same imo. If I go to Chipotle, I’m good for six months.

Reply

Yes, Cafe Rio trumps pretty much everything for me:) I wish I could fedex a Cafe Rio salad to you today:)

Reply

my son is the worst when it comes to cleaning his room! in fact, it was no surprise to me when he won the messiest bunk area award at sleep away camp last summer lol. lucky for him, I clean his room for his at home but I’m hoping he starts to get better at keeping things neat!

Reply

It poured on our way to see Jimmy last mo th too. Ten it was fine once we got there.

My kids are not allowed screen time till the playroom is clean. No TV, no iPads. Sometimes it even works

We had chipotle last night too! My big one (almost 7) got a free kids meal as a summer reading prize.

Reply

Oh I love that rule with screen time… perfect! Oh I love that you saw Jimmy last month Mary (and that the rain stopped for you too:) That is awesome that they have a summer reading prize! I hope you are having an amazing day!

You two are adorbs! What a fun concert!

Chipotle—> yay or nay? What do you order there? – CHIPOTLE FOR LIFE. Burrito bowl is usually my go to but I also love burritos.

When you make a salad at home… what are your go to toppings/dressings? – I always made the same salad variation that includes spinach, romaine, corn, black beans, tomato, red onion, avocado, and a dressing of hot sauce and lime juice. I will usually also add either quinoa or chicken for some protein.

Reply

Chipolte and I are besties. I love their burrito bowls and can’t get enough for the gauc and chips. So good.

No running for me today, I’m gearing up for an 18 MILE RUN (longest run yet!) tomorrow and hoping this extra day of rest does my legs some good. Yesterday though, I ran 9 miles with the stroller and felt pretty hard core ;)
My favorite at home salad toppings are: cherry tomatoes, feta cheese, sunflower seeds, hard boiled eggs, quinoa, shredded carrot, cucumbers, and homemade dressing. MMM. When’s lunch?

Reply

Love Chipole! to the point where my salads at home resemble a burrito bowl – salad, hard boiled eggs, beans, guac, tomatoes, etc. :)

Reply

glad you had such a great time at the concert!! LOVE Judah + the Lion who opened for them!

Reply

Chipotle has always been a yay for me but last time I had it was total nay. Hopefully I’ll go back one day and fall in love with it once again.

My go-to saldas lately are spinach, romaine, artichokes, olives, feta, Italian dressing, and some sort of protein (chicken, tuna, sausage). So delicious!

Today I will just do an easy run. Anywhere between 3 to 5 miles.

Check out these moms on this Youtube channel!

THANK YOU X A MILLION!!! Going to rewatch this with Andrew when he gets home!

Reply

Salads lately have either been caprese – tomatoes, mozzarella, basil, olive oil and balsamic (cannot get enough of those with summer tomatoes here)! Or greens, peppers, carrots, cukes, feta or goat cheese and either strawberries or peaches and sunflower seeds on top for a little crunch.

Reply

We are actually going to the Jimmy Eats World/Incubus concert when they come to red rocks in Oct! I’m more of a Incubus fan myself, but i’m so excited to see both bands!
Cafe Rio is #1, but I do enjoy Chipotle. Plus it’s a lot closer and I have a ton of Buy one get one free cards from an event with them, so we have been going there a little more often. I usually get their salad or burrito bowl with either sofrita (surprisingly very good!) or barbacoa.
Our go to salad lately has been a strawberry salad, with sliced strawberries, red onion, sliced almonds, spinach, cranberries and a little light rasp vinaigrette.
As for clean ups with little ones, I don’t have much advice. no kids yet, but I do have a niece and a few nephews. Usually i’ll have them clean up before we leave the room to do another activity. Usually they rush through it to get to where we are going, so it’s not organized, but at least it’s off the floor!

Reply

Yes I love Chipotle, we had dinner there last night!! Or, we did takeout I should say. That salad you had for lunch looks SO amazing and also those pretzel bites…DROOL!! No wonder baby was kicking :)

Reply

We don’t have playroom so my boys, 2 and 4, play in living room or bedrooms and we pick up the living room at least each night unless a special block structure has been made or giant puzzle completed. But other than picking up toys they don’t do chores. Do yours do other cleaning? I do dishes and cleaning of house myself becAuse they are young but if you have tips for doing chores share those!

Reply

Salad toppings include either fruit or bread sweet pickles. I can do with or without dressing.

My LO is only 15 months but we make him pick up all his toys and put them in the baskets. It takes patience and more time but it is worth it.
