That was a first during my run + I cannot watch that.

FORTY TWO MILES for the week and they felt the best they have in a long time! I’m liking this whole second trimester thing a lot more than the first trimester.

After I finish a run Brooke loves to jump on and impersonate me for a second.  I am loving having the treadmill in our family room now, it makes it a million times easier to run while the kids are awake.  This will also be so nice when the baby is here because I can set up a little pack and play right next to the treadmill and the baby can nap to the sound of the treadmill… just like Brooke did;) PS the safety key is taken out unless Andrew or I are right there.

IMG 2071

It’s just the two of us for most of the weekend.  Andrew is up at the hospital working hard!  I pretty much want to faint at the sight of a drop of blood and I’m always beyond amazed what he sees and does with his nursing school so far.

IMG 2075

Four things about my run:

1. My body just loves this 9:22 pace thing.  While I was running I just played around jumping up and down with paces (my biggest key to fighting any boredom on the treadmill) and when I hit finished, 9:22 popped up as my average pace.  It’s almost weird how the pace keeps following me around.

2.  This song by Lorde is a great running song.  I listened to it on repeat for awhile!

3.  My bladder loves treadmill runs so much more than outdoor runs.  The pause is just so easy to hop off really quick;)  The tricky part is always pushing start again after but sometimes you just have to do things without thinking about it… the trick to get me to start my run pretty much every run for the last 19 years;)

4.  I brought a bag of grapes with me to the treadmill and snacked on them while I ran.  That was definitely a first.

Brooke was ecstatic to see that we ordered pretzels the Friday night… she loved the cinnamon sugar one with all of her heart, reheated.

IMG 2089

The two of us drove around doing errands and stopped at my parent’s house too.

IMG 2092

Turns out packaging at stores is probably one of the best ways to market a product… we never buy canned Campbells soup like this but because Little Mermaid was on it, it sold us.

IMG 2095

My mango storage was finally restocked.  PS for Utah people… the mangos at Target are by far the best right now and I’ve been buying mangos from a bunch of different stores lately.  These are so beyond sweet and now I’m wishing I bought more.

IMG 2124

We also did Brooke’s favorite thing right now… swimming!  It is definitely not my favorite thing to do right now but seeing her so happy pretending she is fish makes it worth it.

IMG 2123

After the pool we came home and Andrew’s parent’s stopped by for a little while.  Then we got to work on getting ready for Brooke’s birthday party.  She loved putting together the invitations and goody bags.  She has more of a Pinterest brain than I do already:)  Also, am I alone in the fact that I want to have everything ready for birthdays more than a week in advance… Andrew finds it interesting that I want to have everything ready to go to celebrate (and unwrap) in advance!  It’s probably because my mom always made a big deal over birthdays and it passed down to me.

Blue Sour Punch straws for Andrew… they are his favorite candy ever.

IMG 2127

I seriously do not know how she is already celebrating her 5th birthday soon… I feel like this birthday party for Brooke was not that long ago!

DSC 5992

Then Andrew came home after the hospital!

IMG 2133

Andrew is definitely the fun one:)

IMG 2136

We were craving some Cafe Rio for dinner so we grabbed some pork salads.  It hit the spot.

IMG 2138

I attempted to watch the movie PS I Love You last night and made it an entire 11 minutes.  I was sobbing uncontrollably and had to turn it to the Office instead because my emotions were too strong last night ha.

Excited to do my new tradition (is it a tradition if I’ve only done it for one week so far;) of meal planning for the week!  I just ordered this cute meal planning notepad to help this tradition continue;)  PS what did we do before Amazon?

My mileage is only 22 for last week…….heat + humidity = shorter runs for me.
I haven’t eaten anything weird on runs……..I can’t change from the normal fruit snacks or huma gels or my stomach lets me know it.
4 things: I still am dealing with shin splints so the KT tape has been a lifesaver, I saw a guy running in what he probably thought was tiny spandex shorts but it was just underwear….nothing left to the imagination, I ran past a cookout on the river that had amazing smelling burgers, and I heard (couldn’t see because of the trees but I could identify the sounds) a fight between an osprey and a goose…………I am guessing the goose got too close while the osprey was hunting…my money is on the osprey.
Highlight today: lower humidity………at least for today!

Reply

WE HAVE zero humidity here so I don’t know how you run 1 mile in the head and humidity! WAY TO GO Loribeth! I am so sorry about your shin splints but I’m so glad the KT tape has helped! Hmmm underwear… I haven’t seen that yet! LOVED hearing about your run… thanks for sharing! It sounded super entertaining!

My mileage for last week was 12 miles! Not anywhere near your 42 but it’s better than nothing.
Also I work as a packaging engineer and can tell you first hand that putting the Little Mermaid on a soup can is definitely just a way to catch your eye and make you buy the product. It’s why some packages are super cute so it catches your eye when on shelf. Just a fun fact that you probably didn’t want to know for your Sunday ;)

Have a great day Janae!

THAT IS AWESOME Maureen! Way to go! I did want to know that because it totally works for us! TJ’s is my favorite because of all of their cute packaging haha! PS that is amazing that you are a packaging engineer… wow! I hope you have a great day too Maureen!

I always had the party favors ready far in advance for my son’s little birthday parties! so much fun, it’s like the best part of making those parties (aside from picking the cake).

Reply

I’m not alone:) I think I am actually going to try to make the cake this time… I’m nervous but luckily they are only five year olds so they won’t know the difference haha! Have a beautiful day Meredith and I love hearing from you!

Funny, thing my kids have always been a little turned off my characters on packaging, both of them. We don’t buy a whole lot of canned/boxed items except when we go on vacation so maybe that is why. A bag of apples once had Elmo on it and they were both super suspicious that the apples would be different and they are not picky!!!
Our Sunday involves packing for the beach and errands. I am going to hopefully tire out my very active 6 year old today too for the 7 hour car ride tomorrow.

Reply

REALLY!? Teach us to be less influenced by packaging! I swear the reason I LOVE TJ’s so much is because of all of the cute packaging ha. Elmo does make me a little suspicious too though;) Enjoy your ay of errands and the beach and have a safe road trip tomorrow! Thanks Carrie!

Running mileage = 0 But 8 miles of whitewater rafting and a couple of yoga classes. And I’m headed out for a bikeride now.
We’re going to be celebrating my boyfriend’s daughter’s 12th birthday this evening with a BBQ and CAKE! I have her gift that I know she’ll love since it’s everything she asked for although her dad bought her a cell phone so that will be taking top place in her gift arsenal lol.

Reply

ENJOY YOUR BIKE RIDE TODAY SALLY! Also, have so much celebrating her 12th birthday! Hahaha about the phone but I’m sure she will adore your present! Enjoy:)

I’m just excited to run again post stress-fracture! My doc told me to start with 1 minute of running, 2 minutes of walking, then repeat to start with. I’m just going to take it easy, keep taking my calcium chews, and be grateful that I’m able to hit the trails again at all!
I’ve never eaten anything very random during a run, but I have definitely wanted to!! I saw another girl eating a PB&J during a race once and I was SO JEALOUS!
Hilight of my sunday is probably going to be running a few steps for the first time in 8 weeks, and then hitting the lake with my parents.
Happy Sunday!!

Reply

Kerri! I am SO happy that you are going to be running again today!!! Sounds like the perfect Sunday Kerri! I’m so excited for you! I always remember those first runs back after a big injury and smiling the entire time! PB AND J during a race!?! Okay, that is amazing!

I usually let my kids pick what kind of cake they want me to make for their birthday. Last year my oldest picked a donut cake and it was the easiest thing ever.. this year she picked a belle cake and it turned into a disaster and I threw it away on her birthday and started over with cupcakes. It all worked out but now I’m thinking of making a rule for the next few birthdays that it either has to be cupcakes or donuts

Reply

A DONUT CAKE… that sounds fabulous! Yeah… I couldn’t do that cake either haha! I like your rule:) Basically, Brooke’s cake has to involve a ridiculous amount of sprinkles so hopefully that should be easy! Enjoy your Sunday Jenny!

Reply

Those pretzels are making an appearance on several Provo area blogs. They look yummy.

Reply

They are so addicting! I’ll FedEx you some;) I hope you have a wonderful Sunday Lew!

Four things from my run. ..pain free, pain free, pain free, and pain free. That’s two in a row! I’m so happy!
My kids wouldn’t sleep through the treadmill. I did put my son in the baby bjorn and walk him when the weather was too bad to walk outside. He loved that thing.
I’m not good with the blood thing either. My mom is a retired nurse and three sisters are nurses. When my mom was being treated for cancer, I’d be like “hold on! I have to get out of here while you do that or you’re going to have to scoop me off the floor.” The nurses were really good about giving me warning on when the blood and needles were coming out.
The only thing I eat during a run is skittles and I got that from you. I swear I can feel it when they kick in. I’m almost to the point in my training when I will start taking them on my long runs.
Have a great Sunday!

I did 16 miles for the week, but only because I did not do well getting my runs in during the week. I don’t care though because I hit a new distance PR of 10 miles yesterday! 4 things: 1. It was hard and I took a gazillion walking breaks, but I finished and that’s all that matters! 2. I was running in backup/old shoes because I left my current running shoes at my parents’ house and now I have some gross blisters :/ 3. I might have to run this route all the time because it goes through like four different parks and there are reliable water fountains to refill my water bottle! 4. The weather was perfect with low relative humidity, starting in the 50s when I left and only getting into the lower 60s by the time I finished. Couldn’t have asked for a better day to run!

So, I tried fueling for the first time while running yesterday with a Gu that was a free sample from a previous race and I did not like it at all! It was vanilla, which is a flavor I usually like, but the texture was so off-putting to me. I just had to squeeze it into my mouth and wash it down with water without actually tasting it. I have one more sample left (salted caramel), so maybe that will go better, but I think I’ll probably have to go another route with refueling.

Reply

Joanne,

Have you tried Huma gels? They are thinner than Gu and are organic. My favorite is cinnamon apple…it tastes just like cinnamon applesauce. Good luck on your long runs and keep up the good work!

YAY, I’m so happy for your meal planning notepad. That stuff makes me happy. lol My runs sucked this week, schedules were off that conflicted run times and battled a headache the other days. Looking forward to a new week with better runs. We are going to my neighbor lady’s 80th birthday party. She’s the sweetest lady ever, so much so that my daughter refers to her as “Grandma, just not my real Grandma”.

Reply

9:15-9:30 has been my favorite pace lately too. It just feels good. No long runs for me, as I mentioned I’m just consistently building my base and foundation.

Have a great Sunday Janae.

Reply

Omg! How do you not like swimming right now. Last year when I was pregnant with my second (was due in July) I floated in the pool as much as I could. It felt so good to be cool and weightless. :)

Reply

With Brooke I loved being in the pool pregnant but I guess the pool we go to just has 4 trillion people in it at all times so you can’t really relax ha and then I overheat. I think I just complain about everything these days ha. Oops:) Maybe I need to find a new pool!

Reply

I just want to say that we just moved to a place with Cafe Rio a 3 minute walk away and I see why you like it so much!! We are eating there 1-2 times a week!

Reply

NO WAY!!!!! Oh this makes me so incredibly happy!!! Enjoy:) What’s your favorite Holly?

Reply

I am vegetarian so definitely the veggie tostada with guacamole. I usually steal a few chips from my son as well. And the limeade is to die for!!

Reply

THE BEST!!!! I am so so glad you love it Holly:) Keep enjoying!

Reply

I’m hitting 60 miles this week! Totally know what you mean about being close to a bathroom on a treadmill. WHEW! I pretty much either stick to the treadmill or run laps around places with toilets.

Reply

SIXTY MILES SUZY!!! You are killing it! WAY TO GO!! Hahaha yep… thank you treadmill:)

Reply

Brooke looks just like Curly in that non-swimming close up!
I am the worst keeper tracker of mileage and workouts….I’ll keep a running total in my brain during the week then it goes out the brain when I start a new week.
4 things from my run this morning-the temp was better, saw more runners/walkers than usual, saw a deer, and I ran 7km longer than I planned! (weird reason was there was another runner going the opposite direction of the trail loop and we basically paced off each other by where we’d pass on the loop. it was a fun non-verbal game.)
Your bump is soooooo cute!

Reply

man, I love soft pretzels – I’m going whip up a batch tonight to munch on during Game of Thrones!

Weirdest thing I eat during runs, PBJ. Not really weird, but it sits so well! I also have downed starbursts and jelly beans during really long trail runs.

Reply

I had about 40 miles last week but most of that was cycling. I’m kind of in love with my bike right now, but I did have an awesome trail run on Thursday.

I did a short run yesterday and about a mile from home my Bluetooth headphone started making a strange sound – it was Les calling me. He was going for a bike ride and locked himself out of the house without his helmet. I turned around and met him close to home. I was SO tempted to just go home from there, but made it 5 miles.

Sunday highlight = Les teaching our adult Bible class. He is an outstanding teacher!

Reply

The highlight of my Sunday is going to be enjoying the BEAUTIFUL weather that just arrived! We’ve had storms for the past few days and now all the humidity is cleared out and it’s no longer oppressively hot.

Hey there! I’m not sure if anyone has mentioned this yet but after seeing the pic of Andrew and Brooke on the couch with Andrew in his scrubs my first thought was take those dirty things off before you sit on the furniture or touch your family!! I spent years working in a hospital and I would change out of them in the garage before I came inside lol. Seriously, hospitals are full of yuck and germs and you don’t want that in your house. (If the pic was actually before he left for the day then never mind :). Thanks!!

Reply

Thank you!!!! Best advice:) so yesterday he was actually just in the classroom learning all day in a separate part of the hospital (didn’t work with patients… just at a desk) but still you are right, I’m sure there were some germs still! Thank youJocelyn and I hope you are having a beautiful day!!!!

Reply

Also, I would never wear my work shoes in the house. I always took them off in the garage. Hospital floors are disgusting…you never know what you’ve walked through (especially in isolation rooms).

Reply

I don’t think meal planning is a tradition…I think it’s just meal planning lol! Best part of my Sunday is having my niece and nephew over…4 kids under 5, yikes!

Reply

I remember when you posted those first birthday pics of Brooke, hard to believe it’s been 4 years! Happy almost birthday to her!

Reply

I love your new tradition of meal planning. It seems to be all the rave now! I try to so I can grocery shop one time – my little boys aren’t the best at the store so I don’t like going more than I have to. But please share your weekly menu – I like hearing about this stuff because it gives me ideas as I get tired of thinking about what’s for dinner

Reply

My total mileage for this week was 26 (it was a lighter week in my training plan). Couple things from my run today was I tried out my new running shoes and compression sleeves and it made a huge difference for my achilles and my feet! I don’t eat anything odd during my long run since I have to be careful what I eat so that I don’t get any GI distress. Favorite thing from today was the nap I took. ?

Reply

Hi! I listened to your podcast with Lindsey Hein for the first half of my 14 mile long run today, I felt like I was running right next to you both having a conversation as I ran! There were a few times I went to respond and then had to remind myself I was running alone :) Thanks for keeping me going on my long training run today!

Reply

OH EMILY!!! Thanks for including us on your 14 miler (way to go!!!!!)!

church and family time is the highlight of our Sundays =)

I always loved putting together goody bags for my birthday growing up. Also I saw PS I Love You in the theaters when it came out and I still can’t watch it again. While I cry at like every chick flick movie, I was totally sobbing at that one so I just can’t watch it again.

Reply

Totally random question but every time I see your table I think about how much I love it, where did you guys get it from?!

Reply

Thank you Hayley!! We got it at RC Willey (you can get it online I think too)!!! I hope you have a great day!

My latest run was a 10K race in my hometown on Saturday, 8/5. The morning was sunny and perfect temps; not too hot and humid (I live in NC) and most of the race was on the greenway in the shade!! This race was small with only 40 participants; the 5K was way more popular with over 150 runners and there were only 5 women in my age group. I wanted to do well since it was mostly flat and my opportunity to medal was in my favor. I finished 3rd in my age group with a 1:02:21, missing my PR by 19 seconds :) It was such a good day because I was running with a friend, who finished 2nd in the same age group, and was able to see a few friends who ran the 5K. I am so glad you are feeling so well running during this trimester!! Keep moving lady!

When I was pregnant… like 3 months ago :)… I ugly face cried to everything. I think rock bottom was when I was sobbing while watching “The Green Mile”. My husband was like… “Baby… you gotta pull yourself together!” HAHA!
