Yesterday was a lame day + Friday FAVORITES

Well, we spent a lot of yesterday afternoon/early evening at the hospital.  Everything is totally okay but I took a fall at our house after lunch yesterday and hit my stomach.  I called my doctor right away and he told me to go to labor and delivery at the hospital to have the baby monitored for about four hours.  I cried for about the first hour and a half of those four hours because I was so freaked out/emotional.  All of the labs came back great so they aren’t worried about her but it was a long day!  I was having some contractions while I was there (they weren’t close together) but those have stopped too and she is kicking around a lot so everything is alright and I’m just going to relax for a bit.   Aren’t you glad I share every detail of my life with you?!

——————————————————————————–

The rest of this post I had already written yesterday before the hospital (sorry it’s partially done but when we got home we made some dinner and I was ready for bed… I’ll have a better list of favorites next week:) so here is a bit about the first half of our day:

FRIDAY!!! I hope you have a great weekend planned up ahead.  We don’t have our kids this weekend so we are going to miss them like crazy and also try to plan something for tomorrow exciting  (my definition of exciting= mostly relaxing, a chocolate custard shake from Culver’s and sleeping 12 hours on Saturday night).

IMG 3891

Can you believe those clouds (no filter… and it was even brighter in person) for my morning run?  Running gets us out there seeing things we probably wouldn’t see like we do when we run and we have the miles by ourselves (or with our running buddies) to really take in everything around us.

IMG 3869

For my 7.4 miles (I don’t know my pace because I forgot to push stop when I got home) I listened to music for the first half and then Oprah’s podcast with Shauna Niequist for the second half.  Shauna is the author of Present over Perfect which is one of my FAVORITE books and I’ve read it twice now:).

IMG 3881

Afterwards the kids wanted to go on a little walk and then Andrew went to the gym and the kids and I hung out.  I’m sitting here waiting for Andrew’s strength training consistency to rub off on me.  No luck yet.

IMG 3885

We had lunch at Chic-Fil-A to fill them up and let them play for awhile.

Time for a few of my FRIDAY FAVORITES!! I would love to hear some of yours today too:)

*When Andrew saw this he said that is my biggest fear come to life a little over a year ago;)  Except I make him do 1/2 marathons on Thanksgiving etc.  He pretends he doesn’t like it.

IMG 3772

*A college love and I have been reunited.  Grab a bowl of cottage cheese and a box of Wheat Thins and go for it.  It is amazing.  You’re welcome.

IMG 3753

*Don’t worry, pancakes are still one of our favorite things too even though I haven’t showed you a picture of one in 36 hours.

IMG 5693

*Current six  favorite running songs—>  Supercut by Lorde, Asking 4 It by Gwen Stefani, Take It All Back by Judah & the Lion, I Love My Friends by Foster The People, High by Sir Sly and Running by ARIZONA.

*I’ve told you this before but one of my absolute favorite things each day is to see how our kids fall asleep at night.  Why sleep on the bed 3 feet away when you’ve got the floor, your pillows and dog right there on the ground.

IMG 3617

*TAYLOR SWIFT HAS A NEW ALBUM coming out 11/10!  I cannot wait.

Screen Shot 2017 08 24 at 5 20 11 PM

*Knox LOVES Michael Jackson and we love watching him try to dance along with him.

*I found another salad dressing that I LOVE (and it is so good for a carrot/pepper/cucumber dip too)… It doesn’t have HFCS either and it is one of the greek yogurt based dressings.  It tastes so good.

IMG 3645

*If you have a Hydroflask (they are the best) and you get annoyed at the fact that they don’t fit in your car cupholders… these make it so they do and they are definitely a Friday Favorite.

Feel free to send any of your running accomplishments to [email protected] ! I LOVE reading these:)

Emily!!!  This story might seem kind of sad, and it is on some levels, but on others it is really about using running to connect us to other people.  On Tuesday I got the regular email from our local running company with the upcoming race schedule and saw there was a 5k on Saturday on our riverfront.  The 5k was to benefit melanoma research (the deadliest form of skin cancer).  My boyfriend’s dad passed away from melanoma one year before we started dating, so I never had the chance to meet him; it is really hard for me because I feel like I am missing such an important part of my boyfriend’s life.  My dad is one of my biggest heroes and I can’t imagine life without him… Obviously it is hard for my boyfriend’s family and my boyfriend doesn’t talk about him much.  We don’t often think how it can impact people who come into our lives after a loved one dies.  So spur of the moment I decided to sign up for the race and run it as a time to feel more connected to a part of our life that I never experienced.  It was a tiny race (maybe 100 runners??) and I wasn’t really going for a time goal or anything, just wanted to push myself a bit.  I completed it in 27 minutesish, which is right on track with where my training is currently, so that was nice.  But I also got second place in my age division- so I got a sweet medal too! I spent a lot of the race reflecting on the situation I am in and it honestly helped me feel closer to my boyfriend’s dad, even though I never met him, but I was able to participate in something that is connected to him.  And even though he is gone, hopefully the race’s impact on melanoma research will be able to help someone else in the future.  I am planning to put the medal by my boyfriend’s dad’s grave next time we visit as a memento.  You write a lot about how running impacts all aspects of our lives, and it really does help connect us to one another, whether they are running with us or not.”

Chelsea wrote this about her fiancé Jake! “My fiancé, Jake, just finished the Leadvill race series, in which he became a Leadman.  In order to be a Leadman, you must complete 5 races.  The following 5 races took place in Leadville, CO, which is the highest metropolis in the United States.  He ran a marathon in June (I wrote to you about the heavy half I did while he did that), a 50 mile mountain bike race in July, then in august he completed a 100 mile mountain bike race, a 10k run, and a 100 mile run.  He completed the 100 mile run in 27 hours and 45 minutes.  When he crossed the finish line, he proposed!  It was seriously the most amazing experience.  I crewed for him, along with his parents.  You can see the finish line and our proposal below.  You can read more about his race on my blog HERE!

(Yep, I was sitting over here at my desk sobbing while watching this sweet proposal)

Have any Friday Favorites… I would love to hear them?!?

Have any foods that remind you of your college/early 20s days (if you are there now… what kind of stuff do you eat on repeat)?

-CC and wheat thins, Lean Cuisines, potatoes (and ketchup… weird but it was so cheap and easy) and chocolate covered cinnamon bears.

Anyone else ever been proposed to at a race or some other type of running/sports event?

What are you most looking forward to this weekend?

Oh my goodness!! I’m so sorry you fell, but I am so glad you’re OK and that the baby is doing well!

Wheat Thins with ANYTHING = winning. :) And I know I already told you this, but I am seriously addicted to Bisquick pancakes. They’re almost all I’ve eaten these past two weeks while I’ve been on medicines that make me not have an appetite for much of anything.

This weekend, I’m looking forward to finding out if I get the job I REALLY want today and also getting my stent out today!! I still have to have one more surgery, but hopefully getting rid of this stent will also get rid of the 24-7 pain I’ve had for two weeks. HALLELUJAH!!

So thankful the baby and you are back up and about–I’m sure that was scary! I love seeing your kiddos in their sleeping positions–hilarious!

That salad dressing looks yummy–I just bought a greek yogurt taziki dip that I have been putting on salads and the macros (I know you don’t count them) are phenomenal!

Reply

Thank you so much Madeline! Oh I am SO glad that you found an awesome greek yogurt taziki dip… that stuff is the best! I hope you have a wonderful weekend!

Oh my goodness, I am so glad all is well with you and the baby! How scary!
Friday favorite: The gym I work at is closed all of next week for deep cleaning and maintenance which means I don’t have to get up at 4am to go to work for a whole week! Yes!
I am looking forward to having all 5 of us home! My oldest has been away at high adventure camp all week. It will be nice to have everyone home together!

Hugs Janae. Sorry you had a little scare.
Thinking of you.

I’m SO glad you and little miss are ok!!! How scary!!! I fell when we were moving …I was 6 months pregnant and I fell on tile on my butt. Immediately my abdomen started hurting and they had me come in for observation as well. Really not something we ever want to think about happening when we’re pregnant, right!? And it was a good reminder for me to slow down a little bit. Precious cargo! SO glad everything is ok!! Take care!

Wow, I’m SO glad you’re okay! That sounds terrifying!

I shared some of my Friday Favorites on my blog today. My most favorite Friday Favorite is probably my J. Crew maxi skirt that I’ve worn 2-3 times this week… it’s SO comfy and flattering, and goes with just about everything! https://poshmark.com/listing/J-Crew-Jersey-Striped-Maxi-Skirt-581c05a77fab3a919800e11e?utm_source=gdm&gdm_bottom=false&campaign_id=751151721&utm_campaign=751151721&enable_guest_buy_flow=true&gclid=Cj0KCQjwlf_MBRDUARIsAD8Gj8D3RVxMFl1Ge8yG9Nh9FMYrDGZhAIOOarjgFYl3FrimWTPOD-h8-xsaAkLYEALw_wcB

My only Friday Favorite is that my boyfriend is coming home from an 11-month government deployment today! It’s a half day of work for me and then going to pick him up at the airport :) I’m so excited and can’t wait to see him!

So glad everything is ok! I know that is scary!

Funny hospital trip story when I was pregnant:
I woke up have so much pain around my stomach area and was in tears (23/24 weeks pregnant). My doctor said go to L&D immediately (umm cue the ugly face cry). Long story short, I was just constipated :) Me and the hubby had a good laugh for a bit on that one!

We have a hurricane making landfall tonight… sooo we will be dealing with that all weekend. YAY :/ LOL

Reply

OH NO!! Thinking about you and I hope you are all safe tonight! Please keep me updated with how you are doing.

Thanks for sharing that story with me… it made me laugh so hard!

Reply

So glad everything is okay! How scary! That salad dressing looks amazing and now I’m on a mission to find it. College food makes me think fake cappuccinos out of the gas station machine, bread from my favorite college coffee shop, Bali Hai Chai from Borders (if there were a copycat recipe I would make this everyday) and steamed broccoli with cheddar cheese.

Reply

I’m glad everything is ok!
We have a long weekend of sitting inside, we are south of Houston and there is a hurricane getting ready to hit land tonight so we are going to watch lots of movies and play lots of Shopkins and Uno and celebrate my littlest lady turning 4 tomorrow! I am looking forward to the cake!

Reply

Courtney, I’m thinking about you this weekend. Stay safe and enjoy celebrating tomorrow with your little girl! Keep me updated with how you guys are doing.

I’m relieved to hear that everything is on with you and baby!

My husband actually proposed to me at the end of a race. It is called the Bix which is a 7 mile race in Davenport, Iowa. My dad has run the race for the past 30 years in a row, and my brothers and I have been running it for quite a few years also. Running has always been a big part of my life through the influence of my dad. Anyway, my now husband came to the race with us a couple times and he asked my dad if it would be ok to propose there. My dad thought it was a great idea, obviously :) The original plan was Josh and I to run the race together and him propose at the finish line. But I am a faster distance runner than him so I finished about 5-10 minutes before him. My whole family was in on the plan and I had no idea. After the finish line there is a large party area for the runners so we all had to weave our way through to find each other. When everyone was finally reunited he got down on one knee and asked if he could chase me in races for the rest of our lives. It was amazing. The best part is that we continue to run this race every year so we get to return to that same spot and reminisce every year.

Sorry for the book! :)

love this proposal story!

Omg I’m glad to hear you are ok Janae. Not the same but I took a nasty fall last weekend on my elbow and thought I fractured it. Thank goodness I did not and thank goodness you’re ok.

Does actually running count as an accomplishment? Honestly I’m proud of consistently running again.

Glad all is well with baby! What a day!
I am most looking forward to SLEEP this weekend! We started school this week and my teenage son wants to do the gym this year every morning before school…..which means I have to get up at 4:45 am. I have not been able to get to bed early and have been in a sleep haze all week. But We did it! And now I can sleep in for one day;) LOL. (sunday we have early church….)

Reply

Such a scary day! I’m so glad that you both are doing ok…. praying for you and baby.

Reply

I’m so glad that you and the baby are okay, that is so scary!!! Thanks for the idea about wheat thins and cottage cheese, it looks amazing and I must try it ?. Knox dancing to Michael Jackson was awesome, I must say I am a big fan of MJ too!

Reply

Glad to hear you and your daughter are ok. Thanks for leading with all is ok after you said you took a fall. That’s so scary. I, too fell when I was pregnant. I was about 8 1/2 months and we were walking from house to house during a progressive dinner. I tripped on the sidewalk and down I went. Still hurts to think about it….my dress flew up around my waist as I fell and it hurt so badly. I did go and get checked out and everything was fine. Our friends still chuckle about it since I was probably the only sober one of the group that night. Everyone else had been having wine or beer as we traveled from house to house. I have tripped during runs on the uneven sidewalk in the years since then so I guess I come by it honestly. Enjoy your downtime this weekend. Best things about this weekend….Ryan’s first XC race on Saturday and some time to clean and do laundry. Sad I know, but terribly behind so excited about catching up.

Reply

Oh Janae, so so so relieved to hear you and baby are doing well. How scary! Hope you get so much rest this weekend!

College I ate a lot of grilled cheeses, onion rings, fried clams, hardboiled eggs, and rice krispies mixed with melted marshmallows; no wonder why I gained all that weight (thanks cafeteria)!

Looking forward to my interval run tomorrow morning and then NOTHING! Sometimes the best weekeneds are the ones with ZERO plans!

Reply

I’m so glad to hear both you and the baby are doing well after your fall! It must have been a scary and anxious few hours.

The sunrise you sun on your run = instant jealous over here. Even if I ran and saw the sunrise, it definitely would not be anywhere near that pretty here in New Jersey. I used to eat pepper jack cheese, pepperoni and cracker pepper Triscuits all the time for a mini meal in classes. And by used to, I mean I stopped back in May when I graduated lol.

Have a great weekend Janae :)

Never fun to spend that much time in the hospital but glad everything is okay!!

Food(s) that reminds me of college – Oreos, ice cream, and peanut butter. The combination specifically. It’s the best dessert ever :)

When I was pregnant with my first I worked at a DT&H program with adults who had disabilites. Around 5-6 months I too fell while at work during an episode with one of the clients….I had no movement for the rest of the day and freaked. I too ended up being monitored for hours and in the end everything was fine.

Crazy how protected they are….and thank Goodness for that!

I discovered a greek yogurt cucumber dill dip that i’ve been loving.

I’m looking forward to the awesome weather in the forecast this weekend. Will be biking with my boyfriend and also painting the newly renovated sitting area in his house that will sort of be my room when i’m there for extended periods.

Emily! Love the idea of leaving the medal at your boyfriend’s dad’s grave. My husband died of melanoma back in 1999. He was only 29. His dad died in his 40s (from juvenile diabetes complications) and I always felt sad I never met his dad. They are together again. Actually when my husband was literally dying he kept saying “he’s waiting for me” and I just assumed he meant his dad was there to greet him. Thank you for contribuiting to melanoma research. I hope someday for a cure. It’s such an aggressive form of cancer.

Soooooo glad you and baby are ok. I can imagine how scary that was! My most memorable college food is $5 pizzas from Little Caesars! My roommates and I were definitely poor college students, so we’d each buy one on a Friday night, and it would last the weekend! Have a nice and relaxing weekend!

Positive and happy thoughts for you, Janae, and Andrew. I will pray for everything to be 100%.

I’m visiting my friend up in Maine for one night this weekend. Looking forward to it. My dog will visit the ocean for the first time! We live on a lake so he is used to “fresh” water. The salt will be a whole new experience.

Oh, Janae! I’m SO sorry to hear about your stressful day. I am so thankful everything is okay with you and baby girl. You need a relaxing day today! :)

Reply

Oh yes, Wheat Thins and cottage cheese, definitely a good thing right there. I remember Chicken in a Biscuit crackers, oh we used to eat those like crazy. This next one is nasty but you know pizza rolls. You know how in the oven is better than in the microwave for them. We used microwave them, then stick them in baggies (the steam disintegrated any remaining firmness they may have had), and away we’d go. Eating our soggy pizza rolls. I can’t even imagine now, YUK.

So so glad that everything is okay! Must have been so hard waiting for confirmation that every thing was fine. We love them way before they are born :-)

Love the Leadman proposal – amazing he could get down on one knee after a 100 mile race! It wasn’t at a race or event, but Les proposed to me at Yosemite. We hiked about 1.5 miles to Vernal Falls and he proposed at the Emerald Pool. We tell people he said, “You can say yes, or it will be a long walk back.” I was smart and said Yes! We love Yosemite for its beauty and also for the wonderful memory.

So sorry about your fall. I was pregnant in the winter in Minneapolis and we would hear from doctors and other folks that in the Minnesota snow/ice, it’s not about if you’ll fall – it’s about WHEN you fall, because all the women at birthing class were slipping on the ice. I was lucky though – my feet swelled to a ridiculous size to support me and my husband would drive me everywhere and even walk me all the way to my desk at work to ensure I didn’t fall (swoon~)

Wheat thins, cottage cheese, and throw a little powdered ranch mix in there. You’re gonna love it!

When i was 30 weeks along with my son, i fell off my bike pretty bad. I was so scared I’d hurt him, but he was fine! It’s so nervewracking!

That video of Knox dancing to Thriller is PRICELESS!

Tzatziki!!! Awesome! We were in Thessaloniki Greece last and had Courgettes (fried zucchini) served with their traditional Tzatziki dip. Amazing….I’ll have to look for this dressing next summer when we move back to the USA.

Long run tomorrow (determining if I am going to do the marathon I signed up for in October) – wish me luck!

I went on a slightly burnt microwave kettle corn kick for breakfast in college. I’d make it in the kitchen microwave and stink up the whole floor! I can’t believe the other girls never complained!

I ate wheat thins and marshmallows together in college after a friend showed me. I typically had a lot of bagels, cream cheese, and juice combos in college……it was easy and fast.

This weekend I am looking forward to some end of summer movies with the husband and a few good hour long runs!

Reply

What a scary day! I’m so sorry you had to go through that, but am very happy you are both OK. I hope you’re not too shaken up and are feeling better :)

I fell when pregnant too. I was carrying my 2-year-old and we slipped on some wet flooring. I was so worried that my little guy was going to get hurt I didn’t even think about the baby!… Then I felt super guilty and horrible. Everything was fine though (Mom guilt can start before they’re even born!)
