You look so cute with the little bump! Let’s also talk about the fact that you’ve run more half marathons while pregnant than I have in my entire life…if you can do it now then your girl over here can do it while not growing another human right?! Also so excited to hear the name (in 19 weeks ha).
My younger sister and I shared a room since we were little until I was 12/13 too! It was definitely fun but obviously we fought sometimes. Nothing major just usual sisterly fights which I’m sure you had growing up too.

We moved our son into his own room at 6 months on the pediatrician’s recommendation. If we weren’t so nervous to do exactly what our doctor said, we would have done it at 4 months! He now sleeps through the night and we have so much more space.

The items we most love are the soft BabyBjorn bouncy seat, our Baby Jogger City Mini GT stroller (not really meant for jogging but perfect for long walks), the BabyBjorn carrier (we found the Ergo too bulky and complex, and I hate those unstructured “wraps”), and a baby floor gym which our baby started loving much earlier than expected. Also loved my Spectra pump.

Rock n Plays were a lifesaver. My girls slept in them for the first 4 months, then transitioned into pack n plays, before we moved them into their cribs.

We used Chicco for our infant carrier and loved it.
We used Huggies diapers and wipes. We use the Great value brand (from walmart) for nighttime diapers though because they seem to work better than the huggies.

Get several different pacifier options. We planned on using a certain brand, but our girls loved the Tommee Tippee ones. Those are the kind of bottles we used too.

My last baby didn’t even stay on our room and it was heaven for me. My middle child stayed in our room for 4 months because she woke up every two hours! It was a nightmare.
I loved my ameda pump and since you’re having a girl you need to try out girlie glue for her hair. It’s the best hair bow stuff EVER!
Don’t get a swing, get a bouncer because you can move it everywhere with you. If you’re doin a diaper bag, I love my Lilly jade. Expensive but worth every penny. Bumbos are great for when they are a little bit older to help baby sit up and double as a feeding chair. I also love my IKEA high chair!!

So excited for you and your family!! You look awesome, I’m glad you’re feeling so good. :) Okay, so because I just had a baby a few weeks ago, all these items are fresh in my mind haha here’s some essentials for me:
-Owlet Monitor: okay, so this is super pricey but is seriously so worth it in my opinion. I was a anxious nut case with my first making sure she was breathing while sleeping, which obviously made me not sleep, but this time around I can lay him down at night or for naps and know if something is wrong, the owlet will alert me! It’s the best!:)
-thoughts on the Dock A Tot: so I just purchased this a week ago in hopes of it making him sleep better, and so he could safely co sleep with me while my husband is away, and I’m not sure what I think yet haha it hasn’t made him magically sleep 8 hrs a night but it is nice to just have a safe place for him to lay down
-Swaddle Me velcro swaddles
-nightgowns from Carters (so easy to change diapers at night!)
-rock n play (or a swing of some type): so nice to be able to set him down or let him nap in there
-I have a Solly wrap and it’s been so nice to have, especially as he’s my second, so I can be hands free with my daughter!
-I just purchased the city select double stroller and am super excited to test it out!!

Dockatot is definitely worth it! Especially if you are breastfeeding. You don’t even need to get out of bed at night. My baby girl is almost 8 months old and we just stopped using it about a month ago. Also I use a medela breast pump twice a day at work and it works great. :)

A Boppy lounger will save your life. No joke.

Both of my nieces sleep with sound machines and they are lifesavers! Esp if you have two kids in one room!

I’m going to be a first time mom so I probably have no idea what I’m talking about but the dock a tot does not seem safe to me! I know people swear by it though. I’m going to be stalking these comments to see what I need for baby too :)

The one thing I couldn’t live without was a baby bjorn. Get the expensive one with lumbar support. It’s nice to have your hands free while still keeping your baby close. It was really good for my separation anxiety. I couldn’t wait to get my son out and not be pregnant anymore but once he was out, I missued having him all to myself.

Soooo excited for you!! A rock and play is a must have! Especially one with an infant insert to make them extra cozy :)

My baby girl slept in her rock and play exclusively for the first 3 months while swaddled, then I transitioned her to crib in her room with dock-a-tot. I used the halo sleepsack swaddle too. I don’t think I would have bought the dock a tot on my own at first but after using it I 100% would buy it. I got to borrow it from a friend! I recommended it to a friend and her baby loved it too!!

I use the spectra s2 pump and it is the BEST. I got it for free through health insurance but it’s affordable on Amazon! It is seriously so much better than the medela pump. It has a much more natural suction and all the mommy groups recommend it too. I primarily nurse but always pump a little extra milk every morning when I wake up to save some for the freezer :)

Also use a loud white noise sound machine :)

One more recommendation! Chicco keyfit car seat!!! Love it and there is a light weight stroller that attaches to it :)

My baby boy is 3 months and my favorites are our Grayco Classic Connect car seat because it has a stroller that you can click the car seat into while they are a baby and then it’s a regular stroller once they are done with the baby car seat. My other very favorite favorite are woombie or love to dream swaddle blankets. OMG can’t say enough great things. My baby when he was a newborn would scratch his face when he would cry and kick off his blanket when he wasn’t fully awake and wake himself up. They keep their arms in and they can kick their legs but the blanket doesn’t come off so they don’t wake themselves up as much so they sleep longer.

Bassinet: we just used a pack n play in our room with both of our girls until they were sleeping through the night (about 6 weeks). Then we moved them to a normal crib in their room (they share). We still use the pack n play tons while traveling and when we have visitors so it wasn’t a waste of money

We really didn’t have anything else other than baby toys and blankets. I was determined not to spend a ton of money on stuff we’d only use a couple of months and I don’t feel like we missed out on anything!

The dock a tot is so expensive but so worth it in my opinion. We bought it when we had our son and it was so nice to have him sleeping between us and was easy to roll over in the middle of the night to nurse him. He slept in it for 4 months in our bes before we transitioned him into his crib. We are expecting again and so its going to get even more use which makes me feel better about the cost.

Janae, you are so cute. It is a lot of fun following you on your journey with this sweet baby. A few things:
1. Breast pumps are covered under the Affordable Care Act – this means they are 100% free! Given the future of the ACA is uncertain, I would lock in a pump now. Reach out to your insurance and ask what you need to get the pump ASAP. I didn’t have to do very much, and was so grateful to have it.
2. Merlin’s magical sleep suit. This was a life saver for us. Our son also liked the Halo sleep sack when he was really young.
3. Nose freida. Gross looking but another life saver when the baby gets congested.
4. Don’t bother with a diaper bag. Just get a big purse (someone recommended a Lululemon bag).
Those are my top tips!

Another vote for Rock and Play as a bassinet for your room! We kept my son in his in our room until he was about 6 or 8 weeks. At that point he was started to wake up from my husband and I making noise so we figured it was time for him to move into his own room.

We have been doing Pampers Swaddlers for diapers – and find that the cheapest price is through Amazon Subscribe and Save (even cheaper per diaper than the brands offered at Costco that are similar quality). Not to mention that delivery of huge boxes of diapers is easier than buying them at the store! And then we do Costco wipes and stock up when there is a coupon!

I moved out of her room at about three months, when she was sleeping most of the night.

We used the rock n play during the day for naps and then we used a pack n play in our room at night for I believe about 5 months until we transferred her to her room in a crib. The transfer went great because the pack n play is already crib-like. The Velcro swaddles were awesome…as well as swaddle sleep sacks after that. We also used the NEWBORN lounger all. The. Time. We didn’t have too many bells and whistles…cause we don’t have much space, And I can’t stand too much crap! Just tried Kirkland diapers for the first time and they are exactly like huggies..never used a sound machine cause we can be loud ish so I wanted her to get used to it from the beginning ; lol.

+We got a Dock a Tot for my 3 month old and it was worth it for us. My first bed-shared from the very beginning because he absolutely would not sleep without me. It was great then, but now he’s a 3 YO and still in my bed lol. We wanted to be prepared with our new little guy so that if he needed to be in our bed he could, but would also still have his own space so the transition to a crib would be easier. We used the DAT in our bed for about a month? 6 weeks? And then put it in his crib which is right beside me in our room. He did that for a few more weeks, but then he started wanting to sleep on his stomach so he was completely out of the DAT by about 2.5 months. I think a lot of people get way more use out of it, but even so, I’d pay every penny for it again because he slept so so well in it from day one.

My other piece of advice is to hold off on buying “all the things” until you know what your baby will actually use. Find a friend who has a baby now and ask if you can borrow some velcro swaddles etc. We spent so much money when my first was born on all those types of things, but neither of my boys have really used them at all. You can also use the Facebook Market thing to get gently used baby things in excellent condition! Think Mamaroo, etc. just be sure to get a new car seat.

Hi!!! I’m 33 weeks along and my spots on my face have gotten DARK! This is my second child, and with my first I didn’t notice they were darker until after she was born. They did get lighter after a few months, so I’m hoping they will this time around too! Maybe the same will happen for you?!

For gear, I’d recommend a pack n play. One that comes with a changing station, and a small bassinet/carrier. I have one by graco that we used for my first, and for the first few weeks she slept in the little carrier. Once she was too big for it we kept her in the pack n play in our room until we transitioned her to the crib. They’re pretty versatile and we still have used it for vacations and what not. Good luck!!! :)

My baby is still in me :) but I am a NICU nurse, so I guess I have some helpful advice to give. First off, I have to caution AGAINST the DockaTot… we’ve had a couple meetings at work regarding the safety of it, and many healthcare providers have deemed it unsafe. I’d really research it and talk it over with your pediatrician before purchasing.
I’ll also echo some above commenters on getting a prescription for a pump.
Oh, and I have been getting those darkening of sunspots, too. Lucky me, mine is in my “mustache” area! Ugh. SPF helps a bunch, but I feel like those hormones have the last say.

I didn’t use a carrier with my first because I just held her all the time but when my second was on the way, I felt a little panicky about how I was going to hold/bond with her while chasing a toddler and just being more out and about this time around. I bought a Moby wrap because I liked that for the newborn stage it keeps them nice and snuggled/secure without putting strain on their baby hips/pelvis and oh my goodness it was a GAME CHANGER!!!! I so wish I had used one with my first! The wrapping instructions can seem overwhelming at first but you catch on so quickly and it is beyond amazing. The Moby material was a little heavy for me so if we ever have another baby I would order the Solly wrap (www.sollybaby.com) since it’s the same wrap concept but much more breathable fabric (and they have so many cute patterns ☺️). My friends who have the Solly rave about them! Happy nesting!

Def check your insurance to see if your insurance will cover your breast pump! Sometimes they are awesome like a medela double electric, sometimes they are just single handpumps. Mine even came with free milk bags. I just called my insurance co and they would send them.

Loved our Ergo baby. Diaper bag not necessary but def get a bag that’s crossbody or a backpack to keep your hands free and out of the way.

Looks like you already have tons of awesome suggestions! But baby stuff is super fun so I’m going to leave some recommendations anyway ;)

-First off, I’m seeing a ton of recommendations for a pack-and-play and I definitely agree! I also really liked our Moses bed when my daughter was a babe. That said, I ended up co-sleeping with her and she is now three and will NOT get out of my bed. It’s become a ginormous challenge. But, the newborn snuggles were amazing and it made nursing SO much easier having her right next to me at night so I guess everything is a trade off. I feel like if you co-sleep but get them out of your bed by like 6-8 months you probably won’t have the same struggles I am currently facing. ;)

-Carrier- I LOVED having a wrap carrier when my daughter was a newborn… Baby K’Tan and Moby wrap were my favorites and you can get both at Target I believe. I also could not have survived without my Tula carrier. And they come in super fun prints which just makes me really happy.

-Pump- Medela InStyle

-Car seat- I had a Chicco KeyFit 30 and liked it. I would just make sure you get one that clicks in and out of a base so you don’t have to take the baby out of the car seat every time you get out of the car. I would also plan to get more than one base- one for your car, one for Andrew’s, etc. If you’re in the market for a new stroller, it’s also really helpful to get a stroller that matches your car seat so you can simply click the car seat out of the car and into the stroller (if that makes sense?). Super convenient. And usually, those strollers will then transform into a regular seated stroller when baby gets a little older.

**Sorry, I don’t know any of the technical words so hopefully this all makes sense! Just trying to remember what worked best for me! ;)

Other things:
-Swaddle blankets (The muslin ones from aden + anais are like dream fabric. I would actually recommend any and all of their products).
-Nursing pillow (Boppy)- made nursing SO much easier
-Baby swing = lifesaver to get anything done
-Nursing bra, nursing pads, nipple cream
-Diaper rash cream (you can find homemade brands at healthfood stores… Those were always my fave. But Badger balm makes this thing called Baby Balm… It’s amazing. Definitely get some.

When my babies (now teens) were babies, my husband and I had a *tiny* bedroom, so a crib didn’t fit. We used a bassinet, which we kept right next to the bed on my side – because that’s the only place it fit – but it turned out to be THE BEST for nursing. When baby woke up to eat, I’d roll over, pluck baby out of the bassinet, nurse, and put baby back into the bassinet, all without turning on the lights or even getting out of bed. I even kept a few diapers and some hand sanitizer right by the bed, so if baby was only wet I could even take care of that without getting out of bed (poops, of course, required lights and not being in my bed!) The bassinet is only safe until they’re big enough to roll over, then we had to move them into a crib in the kids’ room, but this worked really well when they were small and nursing frequently.

If I were you I’d keep the new baby in your room, first in a bassinet and then a crib, until she sleeps well enough that Brooke won’t be disturbed all night. So excited for you! Happy planning!

I have a 6-week-old daughter and a 4.5-year-old daughter. So much has changed baby gear wise in just a few years! Also you should totally nest away right now! By the third tri I was so exhausted I couldn’t nest.
Room sharing wise, the AAP recommends that baby sleep in your room for first six months, preferably a year. There are lower rates of SIDS when room sharing. I definitely plan on having baby sleep with us for at least that six month timeframe. Search for “AAP safe sleep recommendations” to read more. We bed share following Dr. James McKenna’s guidelines (also really good to read about). I bought something similar to dockatot but it’s made with organic/natural materials (brand is Askr & Embla). We’ve also tried the rock and play but baby girl isn’t super interested.
Carrier wise I’m loving the Tula “free-to-grow” as you don’t have to use an infant insert, less sweaty all around!
We opt for a convertible car seat from the start rather than a bucket style infant carrier. The diono radian is awesome as it’s super slim and is good from 5-120lbs.
Stroller wise we got an Uppababy Cruz. Spendy but it drives sooooo smoothlyand has a huge basket underneath. It also has a kickback board that the 4.5yo can ride on the back, though perhaps that wouldn’t be great when you have two older kiddos?
Bottle wise- Comotomo brand were the only big sis would take so that’s what we’re using for little sis.

Janae, you look amazing! I am 31 weeks pregnant with baby #5. We thought we were done with 4, so I got rid of ALL my baby gear and here we are!:) I second a lot of what others have suggested. For diaper rash prevention, my pediatrician (who happens to be my uncle) always recommends using a blow dry to dry their bum after each diaper change. We hardly ever had any problems with rashes. Always apply any diaper cream only after the bum has been blow dried. The babies seem to really like it too! I was hoping to get a free pump through the ACA, but our plan isn’t compliant and we were “grandfathered” in, so I don’t qualify. I have also heard from nursing friends to steer clear of the baby wraps that are only made from fabric that you wrap around you. They have seen a lot of infant deaths with those. Good luck with your last months of pregnancy!

I was obsessed with sleep and that’s how I found the Love to Dream swaddles. They are so amazing and I believe they are the reason my baby slept though the night at six weeks. They allow the baby to self smooth with hands in their mouths while still being swaddled. With my first baby I found that the Velcro swaddles weren’t strong enough and were much less effective after a few times in the wash. Love to Dream is an Australian brand and when my baby was born we received a lambs skin which is the traditional Australian baby gift. When my baby cried we would lay her on the lamb skin and she would curl her little hands into it and immediately calm which is why I think Australians know a lot about baby gear! Haha.

So glad you are feeling better! I craved Diet Coke throughout my pregancyy and pebble ice (but never gave into it). Gosh, the combination still sounds good to me! I also bought bags of pebble ice from Chick Fil A (they even sold it to me through the drive through one more when I was desperate at 7:30am).

Being that I just had a baby last week, I’m no expert, but here’s what helped us survive her first week of life:

– Swaddle Me velcro swaddles: we had to keep getting the nurses in the hospital to swaddle her because she was a Houdini. My husband went out the next day and bought these so we didn’t look like total newbie parents.
– Ollie Swaddle: so expensive, but by far the EASIEST and softest swaddle there is and my favorite. She hates having her arms swaddled (who wouldn’t?) and this allows us to swaddle the rest of her body
– Pampers Swaddlers diapers: I hate the chemicals in them, but they are the only ones we’ve found that are small enough to fit her at this age. The sensitive ones have more of a smell to them, which bothers me, so I prefer the regular.
– Dock a Tot: yes love love love! Our favorite product so far. She takes supervised naps in this and it’s just her favorite spot to chill while we chat with her and read to her on the sofa.. She calms down as soon as she’s in it. We also love that my husband and I can hang out in bed with her in the dock in the mornings (one of us always awake). It’s my favorite ritual.
– Gerber onesies and side snap tee shirts. By far the most economical choice so it doesn’t kill me when she spits up breast milk on them and the fabric is so stretchy.
– Spectra pump: I love mine. Check out Amazon reviews
– Gerber prefold diapers for burp clothes. We have these stashed all over the house!
– Huggies Clutch and Go wipe dispenser (can get at Target or even the grocery store!). These are 10x easier and better than the plastic box dispensers. I own 5 of them and have them all over my house and in the diaper bag. They keep my favorite wipes, Water Wipes nice and moist.
– We chose the Uppababy Vista stroller and are absolutely in love. She loves riding in the bassinet that it comes with and we love how amazing it is to steer and push. You can use the bassinet for overnight sleep too and it would work well in your room with the stand. We aren’t quite as in love with the Uppababy Mesa carseat, but you can use the Chicco Keyfit carseat with the stroller as a different option.
– Nuna Sena travel crib. She sleeps in this in our room. The bassinet is comfy and airy and it’s super easy to set up and take down for travel. We bought the changing pad for it and love that as well. You can use it on the crib or just pop it on your bed for quick changes.
– Poopoose changing pad: We have this one in her nursery and for some reason, she NEVER cries in it. I think she feels super safe and secure in it. So diaper changes and outfit changes are a breeze.

Good luck with choosing what you want! It’s so overwhelming, but remember they just need a clean diaper, some milk in their tummies, and a lot of love. Everything else is icing on the cake.

My older son stayed in the bed with me until he was about 15 weeks old. at which point i moved him to his crib in his room. My 9 month old slept in the bed with us until he was probably 17 or 18 weeks and then we moved him to the rock n play in his own room. We transitioned him to his crib once he could roll over. Had to go back to work six weeks after my older son was born and 8 weeks after my youngest was born so co-sleeping allowed me maximize my sleep as I could fall asleep while breastfeeding.

It had a space underneath to throw a diaper bag/water bottles/whatever. My husband and I also run a ton and we just wanted to get one stroller. This, at the time, was around the price point of a Bob but I honestly think it’s superior. Right now it’s on sale on Amazon for $290, which is not nothing, I know, but it’s worth considering if you think you guys will be running with her a lot. It folds in half with one hand (I can do it by myself easily), has a front wheel lock on the handlebar (big plus for us since it was our only stroller so we didn’t want one with a fixed wheel), brakes, a bar you can buy to clip the car seat in for the first few months (which is easy to swap with the shade if you need to do so). I really can’t say enough good things about it!!! If there is a Buy Buy Baby near you, they always have one to test out. It’s been used almost every day for over three years, including training for two marathons and a number of half marathons, and hasn’t had one issue.

Jake slept in our room for five or six months. We used a pack n play. We have a cradle my husband made, which I’m hoping this new baby will use bc it takes up less space, but if I had to pick one, the pack n play because it was great for when his in town grandparents watched him or when we visited my parents.

I love the Boba wrap! I didn’t use it as much with my son because he was born in spring and it was always sooo hot! But I think I’ll use it more with her since she will be so little all winter.

Boudreaux’ Butt Paste was a miracle worker for whenever he had some diaper rash. And it cracks my son up to say it ;)

First of all, congrats on your pregnancy! I was in the same boat-left most of the baby stuff at my ex’s house when I moved out with the kids and gave away most everything else because I didn’t think I was going to have more, so we started from scratch with my now 9-month-old as well. We didn’t get much since we are short on space too, but we did buy a baby bathtub, infant car seat, a good carrier (already had a Maya ring sling, which I loooove), a baby monitor, and a baby swing. For diapers, the Target store brand diapers are awesome, super cheap and no leaks ever-highly recommend!
