Behind the scenes of the HRG (Guest Post from ANDREW!!!!)

Hey everyone…  Surprise Guest Post.  Janae was feeling pretty terrible yesterday and I knew that a post was not going to happen.  She was out of commission pretty early, so I volunteered to write a post for you all!!  Sooo… I have had this idea of writing a “Behind the Scenes of the HRG” post for some time.  Trust me I have SO MUCH content for this and if you like it, we might have to do this every once in a while.

First things first… pictures, pictures and more pictures…. and wait… more pictures.  I think we take more pictures in one week than my parents took of me.  Okay, I might be exaggerating a bit.  Janae just got a new phone and she already has 14k pictures… with the thousands of pictures come some very funny moments

My Selfie game is much stronger now that I am married to a blogger, but I still can’t seem to get our whole family in one shot.  Can someone let me know what I am doing wrong?  I’m always cutting out my head or the kids.  I guess I just need more practice.

Now, here is evidence of part of the reason why we have so many pictures.  Kids = Volatility  This picture describes it all.  Most of the time the kids love to take pictures and to be honest they feel left out if they aren’t in a picture with us.  I love that we have pictures together as a family, but man it can be quite the battle to get everyone smiling.  What is harder than this…..?

IMG 7236 2

VLOGS with kids = the utmost amount of difficulty.  I was on my computer just looking through videos and pictures and came upon this video and oh the memories of making this video flooded my mind.  I literally laughed out loud and I mean really loud when I watched the outtakes.  Each time I watch this clip I just laugh and smile.  I love our kids.

I’m just going to put this right here.   You’re welcome.  Sometimes Janae doesn’t know what to do for the camera and the spunk comes out…  This is a just a tiny taste of what there is… I’ll save the better ones for a later post :)

So I know Janae boasts about her ability in air hockey.  She has some serious skills.  When she first told me about this, I didn’t believe her.  She smoked me and to be honest, I have yet to beat her in a best of 5 series.  Well…  last week we went on a date (Yeah that’s right we went to a kid’s arcade without the kids) and Io and behold…  The HRG cannot beat me in this, BOOM (mic drop)

IMG 7356

These two kids like to team up against the parents, Right before she said 3 to take a picture they both spun around and I think they are both dabbed???  These kids have skills!

IMG 9183

Gotta get that running picture…. #shenailedit haha

IMG 9386 JPG

Personally, I don’t know why this one didn’t make the cut.  Knox’s modeling game on point…  He didn’t learn that from me.

IMG 9298 JPG

Just when we think we got it all figured out, Beretta comes and bombs the picture.  2 four year olds and a 5 year old dog in a picture…. forget about it.  I’d rather take up learning Mandarin and rocket science.

IMG 4992

Last of the behind of the scenes, is this gem.   Now this totally sums up trying to get a family picture together.  My selfie game isn’t strong enough for this…yet, I’m sure I’ll have much more practice to come.  Whenever we want a family picture we have to look for a victim who is within 10 feet of us to take our picture.  Getting a picture with all four of us smiling can be quite the rarity.  I think we have a 5% chance of getting a shot that will make the cut.  Janae is so nice and always says, “Oh its perfect!!!”  I just wait about 10 seconds later when the good Samaritan is out of hearing range and I will ask her, “Do you like it for real?”  Oftentimes we find ourselves looking for our next victim.

IMG 5235

All joking aside, I love being on this adventure with Janae.  I have run into many of you at the grocery store, Target and at races and I love to get to know you all.  Don’t be afraid to say hi!  I know my last few guest posts were longer, so I’ll keep this one shorter.  I hope you are all are having a fantastic Wednesday!!

Hello from Janae for a minute:)

I am SIGNED UP for my next half marathon—>  the TIMP HALF!  They are partnering with the Huntsman Cancer Institute and a portion of every runner’s fee (and all donations) will be given to fund cancer research!

You can use the code TEAMHRG for 20% off!!!  Come join me if you live here (or if you want to fly to Utah… I’ll take you to Cafe Rio while you are here). We could all meet at the start line to get a picture together:)

Timp HHH June 1

This course is fast (it is my PR course), stunning, super well-organized and they make the whole thing such a fun event!  I can’t wait!  Andrew is going to run it with me too and I’m excited to be a part of this race (at my pregnancy half-way mark:)!  This picture below was from right before the race started when I ran my PR… I loved how confident I felt that morning!  Confidence is one of the keys for me to have a good race, self-doubt SLOWS ME DOWN.

What behind the scenes would you like to know?

Does your family like to get their picture taken?  Any funny stories?  Any horror stories?

What is the highlight of your week so far?

Andrew, awesome job on the behind the scenes post!!! I love it!! I think you should totally keep doing the blooper reel for us! Keeping it real! Yall are awesome!

This post made me smile… I edit video as a part-time business, and when I’m working with my own material the behind the scenes / bloopers parts are my absolute favorite. Sometimes I even take the time to make a highlights video of them haha. I feel like sometimes that’s where the real memories lie. :)

Feel better soon Janae!!

Haha, I feel like my life is full of outtakes, especially with littles! Our 3 kids are each 19 months apart and we have a pic of them in their Halloween costumes when they were 5 mo, 2 years, and 3 1/2 and it was the most frustrating experience trying to get them to look at the camera without crying. Everytime I see that pic I laugh because it was so painful!

Highlight is spending the last 2 weeks with our BFFs in TX. While I’m looking forward to my bed and cat, I am not looking forward to leaving them and their babes.

So great to read/see your point of view on the whole adventure Andrew! LOL What a funny post! That being said, I really hope to Janae feels better soon. Sending her a virtual hug ;-)

Andrew- you are the sweetest! Great job on this post :)

Janae- hope you feel better soon! Sending you lots of love!

Hope she feels better soon! I love this kind of post, it’s pretty neat to see it from your perspective Andrew! My husband gets embarrassed sometimes when I stop and take pictures for my blog. My selfie game is pretty awful and I’m debating on getting a selfie stick. But then I’d be too embarrassed to use it, lol!

Love the guest post! It was fun to see be out takes I always wondered how many pictures Janae has on her phone haha bc I know how many I have and I only have a fiancé and a dog!

Hope you are feeling better, Janae!! I loved this post from Andrew — it was so fun to hear a behind the scenes look of your blog!

I am still cracking up about the paragraph referring to your “victim” for taking your family photo, if it’s not quite right, seeking out your next victim. LOL My daughter doesn’t mind the photo taking, my husband HATES it. I don’t like myself on camera so it’s always fun. You are so right on taking so many to get a keeper. My kid turns goofy when the camera is on her. I posted about similar things before (http://www.everydaysnapshot.com/search/label/Photography). And a family shot? Ugh. You start with ‘having the perfect family photo’, you end with ‘good enough’. (http://www.everydaysnapshot.com/2013/09/family-shots.html). Hope Janae is feeling better soon !! Love posts like this though, it’s funny to see the real side of things.

Whoops, that first link didn’t link right. It was supposed to be this one. Sorry !!! http://www.everydaysnapshot.com/2014/10/fall-photos.html

I’m really glad you are willing to be in the pictures! I feel like it’s something of a rarity that my husband is in my blog pictures because he feels funny haha.

Suggestion about the pictures posted: they don’t have to be “perfect”. I always thought mine needed to be, also. But then I learned to know someone who will post a picture even though not everyone is smiling happily. And I realized that those pictures are more real life – and even amusing and so much more interesting. She’s had Easter picitures where 2 of the kids will be smiling and the 3rd one is crying, or a birthday picture where one of the kids is clearly not having a good day, etc. Make it real!

Ha this was too good. I need to figure out how to store more photos on my phone! I had no idea they could hold that many.

Reply

Ha, I always love blog behind the scenes. Keepin’ it real!

Now that I primarily take all my blog photos with my DSLR, my phone stays pretty picture free. Although, there are COUNTLESS cute Loki pictures on my phone.

Oh my God this post was absolutely hilarious!

Andrew, this was great!

highlight of my week was going home to visit my sister’s baby and seeing that my neighbour just got a new puppy. I LOVE baby people and animals! :)

I loved it! Such a good idea.

It’s almost impossible to get my husband to keep his eyes open in pictures. When I was young my brother would fist his hand in my hair and yank when we were getting our pictures taken. 1/2 of our photos have me crying in them… (he’s 4 years younger).

I had a former client say very nice things about my and the work I do at a business meeting she invited me to. It’s always nice to have a former client appreciate you publicly!

Feel better Janae! Great post. Thanks for doing it and look forward to more.

This post is so funny! I can totally relate to the many, many photos per day! My phone is constantly running out of storage – which is rather annoying.

Highlight of my week so far, I think, will be today ;) I got an early morning 7 miler in already and am excited about our family night tonight. Usually, my husband and I do a little work in the evenings, once our son is asleep, but tonight is our night to unplug and relax together as a family before Benaiah goes to sleep and afterwards, play a game or watch a movie together! :)

I want to know what it is like to order food with Janae. For instance, does she yell her order down the line at Cafe Rio? Or is controlling and particular like me and wants to be right there telling them exactly how to make her salad? Ex.Act.Ly.

This was awesome! You guys are a fun family. Feel better, Janae!!

What a great post! Way to take over for your wife <3 love all the humor :)

All the pics don’t have to be with everyone smiling, so don’t stress about it. In fact, it is rare that I like to see a picture my family all smiling; I like candid pictures and action pics too.

Awesome job pitching in for the lady half. I had a distinguished visitor yesterday and today at work; big highlight because we got to meet with so many interesting people. And I got to work in a run to my preparation yesterday! And a restaurant taste test!

I love behind the scenes posts! It shows the real you, and how not everything is perfect all the time. :) I like realness.

Janae! I’m volunteering for that race! I’ll be sure to say hi if I see you! :)

My selfie game is pretty weak – I think the ratio is about 7:1 Selfies taken:posted. Love all the behind the scenes. Your growing family is such a bright spot.

I’m the youngest of four and our family pictures from the 70s are pretty hilarious – without digital technology we had to a wait a week to get them back, hoping there would be at least one good one on the roll!

Banana-mac nut-chocolate chip bread with Hawaiian coffee is one of my highlights this week so far.

the reject photos are great! My mom used to make us wear matching clothes and go to Sears………ugh! There were so many embarrassing photos………the poses, the matching clothes………….some handmade dresses that were cute when you are 5 or 10, not so cute when you are in the 8th grade and praying your friends NEVER see them. Ha! Hope you feel better!

Hope you’re feeling better Janae! You sure picked a keeper :)))
It was so fun to hear about blogging from Andrew’s perspective :) Since I started blogging, I noticed a HUGE difference in how many pictures I take on a daily basis – before I never used to bring my phone anywhere haha
I still have a looooong way to go with my selfie game though ;)

The kids dabbing…priceless lol!

I loved this post Andrew. Thanks for giving us a glimpse into your lives :) I generally find that the self timer and remotes work way better than strangers at getting family pictures. Although strangers look at me funny for propping my phone up on random objects (trees, rocks, railings etc).

Reply

Ahhhh, I love the behind the scenes!

So fun! And so sweet that Andrew posted for you on a bad day. And Andrew, I can’t take selfies either. For some reason my face takes up half the screen no matter how far away I hold the phone. Maybe my arms are too short?

Reply

Loved this post; had me laughing aloud. Hope Janae is better!

Loved this post so much, made me laugh out loud a few times!! It’s great seeing your guys personality behind the blog- if that makes any sense! You guys are the cutest family, and after going through my parents divorce, you two give me faith in love again and that my mum will find it again when the time is right!

Reply

This is seriously adorable. Y’all are both so great, and your precious family makes my heart smile :)

Reply

This is great, Andrew! Also – I hope Janae is feeling better. I am so bad with selfies that I have decided never to take them again. Your family and selfie photo skills combined for the blog continue to amaze me. My parents popped by for a visit and I was thrilled to see them. I could not take off an entire day, but I was able to start work late for two days. It is so fun to hear both perspectives and I hope this continues!

Tee hee… My husband has said many of the same things you’ve written as a blogger husband. Thanks for being so supporting. And congrats on the new baby coming soon!

Do you and Andrew have a recommendation for a good “starter” watch for someone just getting into running? I’m looking for one that will primarily tell me my distance, but it would be nice if it also showed pace. Since I’m brand new to running (still trying to work up to a 5K), I don’t want to splurge on a nice running watch just yet. Thanks!

I never comment on blog posts but i had to come here to comment on this one- this was hilarious! i was literally LOL’d throughout this whole post. Great one Andrew!!! keep them coming- too funny!
