How we told our kids about the baby (we have a video of it!!) and why NOW all of the motivation?

First, It was extremely hard to keep this a secret from you guys for so long (and it’s nice to not have to try to hide the bump in my pictures now ha:)!  I wanted to share with you today how we told our kids about the baby!

Really quick about the first trimester…  I’ve been sick, like most pregnant women:).  I never really felt that bad in the mornings (hallelujah) but the rest of the day was hard (puking at night a lot… TMI?!) so the kids were pretty worried about me.  Each night in their prayers they would pray that I wouldn’t be so sick anymore.  It was hard not to tell them I was pregnant the second we knew but I have had a miscarriage in the past (when Brooke was about 10 months old) so we really wanted to wait until things were more sure to let them know.  We had a doctor appointment when I was 13 weeks along but we got a babysitter for the kids… then the doctor was gone delivering another baby so we had to reschedule.  When we rescheduled for the new appointment we decided to just bring the kids along with us to tell them!

The kids thought we were going to the doctor to get medicine so that I wouldn’t be sick anymore.  We had the doctor check out everything to make sure everything was still great with the baby and then we let the kids know what was going on.  They thought the heartbeat was SO funny.

Hearing the baby’s heartbeat all together in the room was so incredibly special to me.

Here is a video of when they found out!

“Is it actually real?” haha

When they first found out, Knox was beyond thrilled/proud/excited but it took Brooke a little bit longer to build up her excitement (she takes longer to process/think about things before she shows her emotions).

After the doctor’s appointment we went to get shaved ice to talk more with them about everything!

DSC05273

A few little things about what the kids have said:

“I’m not going to be excited if it’s not a sister because I want a sister on each side of me in the car.” -Knox.  Since then he has decided he wants a brother but at first he was all about having a baby sister.

“Please bless our baby.” -Both of them include this in EVERY prayer and it makes me so beyond happy.

First Brooke would say ‘he’ when talking about the baby but it has now switched completely to ‘she.’  And now she prays at night that it will BE A GIRL!

Brooke is very concerned with the safety of the baby… I came home from running one morning and Brooke gave me a stern look and said, “Mom, did you run fast?” and I said, “No, why?”  She replied, “Because of the baby… you cannot go fast anymore because the baby needs to be safe.”

I gave Brooke a tight hug one day and she told me we can’t hug tight anymore because she doesn’t want to squish the baby.  She then demonstrated how we are allowed to hug from now on and it was the lightest hug I’ve ever received ha.

Both kids want to kiss the baby goodbye/goodnight/etc whenever they leave and so they go and kiss my stomach… which come to find out is pretty awkward in public settings before you are really showing;)

Now that the kids know I have a baby in me and if I mention to someone that I’m not feeling well they say, “NO mom, you’re not sick… it’s the baby.”

They are beyond excited that they are going to be the boss of somebody else.

I’m so thankful that we get to grow our little family.  Brooke and Knox are going to be great little helpers (at least I keep telling myself that;) and I cannot wait to see them with the baby.  They will both be 5 when the baby is born… my next older sibling is 5 years older than I am and we are incredibly close (minus those years when I was in jr high and I think it might have been scientifically impossible to get along with me during those years;).

For the first time ever in my life, I’m very excited for winter to come (specifically Dec. 15th:).

————————————————————————————————–

Yesterday I went out for a six mile run!  I started at a park and finished at a park.  I hate to admit this but I listened to the Kaitlyn Bristowe podcast (the girl from the Bachelor) and laughed a majority of the time.  She is out of control.  I don’t know why the Bachelor/Bachelorette intrigue me so much but maybe it’s because I met and got engaged a few weeks after we met each other too;)

IMG 8405

You know that it’s going to be a good run when a large cloud takes over the entire sky and keeps the sun blocked during your run.  The rest of the day we were at 98 degrees but for my run, the clouds came out to save me.

IMG 8392

The amazing Suzy is 29 weeks pregnant and rocking her running!  She and I were chatting and she shared some awesome people to follow that are also expecting… one in particular that is due around the same time I am and she offers awesome strength training workouts for pregnant people!  I did this one yesterday and I might be sore for a week now;)  I don’t usually have the motivation to do much strength training but I do now because I want to be able to have an awesome delivery and carry this baby well over the next few months.  I also know that to keep running with a changing body, I need to keep some things strong in order to do so.

Knox was able to be with us for a few hours while his mom was working and they have started the fort stage.  Next fort they have informed me will be by the tv and we are going to watch a movie while we eat candy and popcorn in the fort.  They are sure good at planning things for us;)

I don’t remember the last time I had a subway but for some reason it sounded great yesterday.  I had the footlong chicken one with all of the mustard, mayo and pickles:)  It tasted great.

Ya know, a blanket always sounds like a great idea when it is in the 90s.

PS chores went really well yesterday;)

We had a fancy dinner at Cafe Rio.

The Bachelorette + Raspberries followed by Frosted Flakes = my favorite kind of night.

By the way I had to share this text from my brother yesterday!  My nieces go running now:

IMG 8433

Parents with more than one kid… how did you tell your older kids you were expecting?

When you do strength training… do you get your workout online, come up with it on your own, follow a video?

-I miss my Jillian videos.

What’s on your workout schedule for today?  I’d love to hear (it always motivates me:)

Who is watching the Bachelorette this season?  What are your thoughts?

The video of them finding out was adorable! Knox asking, “Is it real” made me laugh haha. It’s precious how they are so concerned for you and the baby! I feel like this will make them be fantastic big brother and sister.

I am so not watching the Bachelorette. I gave it up years ago. Not that I’m not still curious about, but the drama made me a nervous wreck.

Where can I find more info on your meeting Andrew and the engagement? My husband Daniel and I met and a few weeks later we were engaged. We celebrate 18 years in August. ❤️

18 years… congrats!! That is so awesome Becca:) Here is our proposal story:

And I talked about Andrew a bit on the blog leading up to that! I hope you have an amazing day!

Congrats on the baby news! I worked out for the first time before work today…ever! I did 30 minutes on the treadmill then rounds of push ups, side to side ab exercises and squats! Seeing you run pregnant is motivation! :)

GO ASHLEY!!!! You rocked it this morning! Keep me updated on how you are doing!

I did hills yesterday, so I’m going on an easy run today (sorry–that’s probably not very motivating). I don’t know why I’ve been going after work every day this week when it’s in the 90s, but for some reason I’ve really been enjoying doing so!

I tried watching the very first episode of The Bachelorette this season since she’s from Dallas, but I didn’t make it through the whole thing. Most of my friend love it, but I just can’t get into it.

Telling my oldest was fairly undramatic. She was 2 1/2 at the time but has always been very mature. Celia was laying on me and I told her to watch my stomach mainly because she was elbowing me. She said “why?” and my husband and I just looked at each other and I said “cuz you don’t want to hurt the baby”. We didn’t think she got it as she said ” oh ok” but from them on she told people and was fine. 6 1/2 years later and she is the best big sis, entering into the tween stage at almost age 10 though!!

That is so sweet Carrie, thank you for sharing this with me:) I love that she is an amazing big sis and please fill me in on how to do the tween stage once we get there! Have a beautiful day!

I am a longtime reader (I think it’s been 7 years now) and you’ve inspired me to start a blog of my own! If you could take a look, it would make my day!!

My girls are 5 years, 364 days apart…the baby came the day before my older daughter’s 6th birthday! When we found out I was pregnant, we made my older one a shirt that said “Big Sister…Finally!” as she had been asking for a sibling since she could talk. It was so cool having her read the shirt and figure out what it meant for her and for the family.

The baby is now almost 9 months old, and the girls are already inseparable. The big age gap is nice because my older daughter is SUCH a big help!

Reply

Okay, Samantha that is the sweetest thing ever! I am going to have to make shirts for our kids. Congrats on your two kiddos and good to know that your older daughter is a huge help! Hope you have a beautiful day!

Awe I feel like I’m going to tell you every time butntoy are going to be such a great mom to your newborn. I’m excited for you and your family and it sounds like the kids are just as excited!

Thank you so so much Hollie:) We are thrilled! Let’s plan a race to do together next year!

Oh my gosh the kids are too cute!

For strength training, I either do a video (I have a subscription to Beachbody On Demand but I am also a HUGE fan of FitnessBlender on YouTube) or I do my own routine based on the hundreds of routines I’ve done throughout my years of working out. I have a pretty sweet set up in one of my spare bedrooms that I cleared out and added a weight bench to, plus a TV, and of course, it has a ceiling fan so I don’t melt into a puddle.

I made the decision to sign up for a half marathon yesterday… and it’s on August 5th. So it’s time to get moving! If you have any suggestions for good speed/tempo workouts, feel free to share! I came up with a calendar yesterday for myself, so today’s plan is 10x400s at 10k goal pace. YIKES.

Reply

AHHHH I am so so excited for your half marathon!! You are going to rock it! Let me know how the 400s went! Thanks for the strength training recommendations, going to have to check out FitnessBlender!

Reply

That video is one of the sweetest things ever. And I love how protective Brooke is being of you.

Reply

Oh thank you Renee! We are so lucky to have them! I hope you have a wonderful day!

Reply

suzy is the best!!! my strength training is always in the form of pure barre. I used to take classes in the studio but switched to at home a few years ago already. I have a bunch of the DVD’s and online workouts and right now, I’m actually a pure barre on demand beta tester so I am loving the major pure barre variety these days!

Reply

I don’t know why but I started choking up when reading all the little ways the kids are responding to the new baby. So cute!

On the schedule today is 4 easy miles, and I’ll probably add some foam rolling in as well. I’ve kind of been neglecting strength the past couple of weeks, so I need to get back on that, as well. I have two cross-training days a week, but so far I’ve used them for rest and non-running cardio (oops). I usually do Tone It Up videos on YouTube or my Jillian Michaels 30-Day Shred (oldie but goodie!)

Reply

Thank you Joanne:) I hope the miles and foam rolling were great day! I need to try Tone It Up!!! Yep, I LOVE the 30-Day Shred!! Enjoy your Wednesday!

Reply

Brooke and Knox are going to be awesome big siblings !!

Workout of the day – 8 miles of speed work! Averaged an 8:17 pace which I was really happy about!

Watching The Bachelorette this season but honestly not a huge fan. I think Rachel is awesome and she got the short end of the stick with the candidates!

Frosted Flakes with raspberries in them was one of my pregnancy comfort foods with my son. I forgot about that until you posted that.

I was so worried that my run was going to be unbearably hot because I had to run in the evening yesterday. And then that huge storm came and cooled everything down nicely for me. I love when that happens.

Reply

Awww they are so supportive! Love the prayer they do! When i strength train, I make sure to hit certain muscle groups on the days i do it. Ive been lifting for 6 years now, so i can totally wing it!

Reply

Is it sad that I don’t actually remember telling my kids about being pregnant? They were pretty young so I think we just told them once we hit the second trimester. They were both there for the gender ultrasounds though, so they got to find out at the same time as us. I actually remember my daughter was devastated with both of her siblings, because the first was GOING to be a girl (nope, boy), and the second was going to be twins, a boy for Daddy and a girl for Kinsey (and nothing for Mom who actually has to carry the baby lol), but again just one boy. Poor kid lol. She still asks for a sister sometimes, so maybe at some point I’ll be able to convince my husband that he wants one more! :P

I do a combination of Crossfit, online Beachbody workouts (like Insanity), and designing my own workouts. It just depends on my mood but generally I like having my butt super kicked, so Crossfit is generally my first choice.

Today I’ll be doing an online Beachbody workout in about 5 minutes, but if I get done with work early enough I’ll also hit Crossfit Strike tonight. There is literally nothing more therapeutic than kicking and punching things! :P

Reply

The video is too cute! My daughter was far too young to understand really about having a baby (she was a little over a year old) so I don’t remember what her reaction was. However, when she came to meet her new baby brother at the hospital, the only thing she was really interested in was riding on the hospital elevator!!! It was far more interesting than a new brother for sure.
Lucky me, I was never sick during my two pregnancies, so I feel bad for anyone who does throw up during them! Hope you are feeling OK!

Reply

The video of the kids finding out is SOOOOO cute!!!

I’m watching the bachelorette this season and am enjoying it!! I love how real she is and really tells off these men when they mess up. I like Peter so far. It’s so funny to see all the drama men have on these shows, and these men have a lot!

Reply

Thank you!! Oh I seriously LOVE how real she is too! I cannot believe all of the drama this season… it’s unreal! Enjoy your Wednesday Leanne!

We’ve never told our kids in any sort of special way, just telling them while we play a game or something is shocking enough to them! lol

For strength training, I’ve always followed a basic formula, doing “supersets” of exercises to squeeze in as much as I can in the limited amount of gym childcare time that I have. For example: 1) a chest exercise + lower body (bench press followed by lunges x 3) REST 2) back + lower body (back row followed by squats x 3) REST 3) shoulders + lower body (military presses followed by sumo squats x 3). If I have extra time and I feel motivated, I finish with planks or some other core, but it’s always hard mentally. Most things I do are compound exercises which utilize the whole body (squats, kettle bell swings, dead lifts, pushups, etc), so my core is constantly working and I still get smaller muscles worked (biceps, triceps, calves) without having to waste time on isolated movements.

Now that I’m pregnant, I’ve been extra motivated to stretch and foam roll consistently. My hips had been so tight that I couldn’t do lunges without everything going out of whack and pinching my sciatic nerve!

Honestly, I’m very excited to be so close to you in pregnancy weeks because I’ve never been pregnant at the same time as a “friend” who works out, too. Lol

Reply

Congrats Kristin on your pregnancy! I need to be on the foam roller now more too! Keep me updated with how you are doing with everything… so happy we are so close in weeks too! Thank you for sharing what you do… I’ve got to learn your ways!!

Aww I loved this post so much. I think is so incredibly sweet that Broke is so concerned by the safety of the baby <3

When I do strength training I will usually watch a video, and then recreate it later in the gym. Today I'm planning to go to the gym to run a few miles and then finish it off with strength training:)

Reply

Oh my gosh, their reactions to the baby are adorable! I think you’re right – they are going to be great helpers.

When I do strength training I come up with my workout on my own a lot of the time (I used to be a personal trainer), but I also like pulling workouts online from the Tone It Up girls. Their youtube channel is AMAZING – you should check it out! And their whole platform/business model is wonderful, too. I have been following them for years now. This morning my workout was a 30 minute run outside and about 15 minutes of arm/ab strength training in my little basement gym.

So I was really excited for this season of the Bachelorette (I think Rachel is just great), but I’ve been disappointed so far. I feel like they really gave her guys that are just ridiculous and not anywhere near what she is looking for. I hate that they put those people on the show for ratings alone. Like whatever happened to actual normal people that respect Rachel and want to be their best self for her? On a totally different note, I love Kaitlyn Bristowe’s podcast. It is hysterical.

My little guy didn’t quite get it (he had just turned 3) so we just told him that there was a baby in mommy’s tummy. He was DEAD set that it was a brother so anytime the phone rang he would tell us his brother was calling… The further along I got he would tell everyone his baby was coming that day… I got a lot of concerned looks especially when I was only 20 weeks! In the end he got his little brother!

Reply

Oh my goodness, Knox and Brooke’s comments about the baby our so precious! I know they will be great older siblings:)

Today’s workout = an easy 5 mile run before my little one woke up. Thankfully, my husband stayed home with him so I get sneak it in by myself and outside! It was so gorgeous outside this morning (like 60s) perfect running weather!

Reply

I often come up with my strength workouts by pulling from multiple different online sources, plus adding it to what I know. I was a cheerleader in college, and I had to go to weight training sessions; I wish I’d appreciated them back then (I was always trying to get out of going to the varsity weight room) but I so appreciate knowing my way around a gym floor now!

I’ve been swimming a lot of laps, letting my sore tibia heal:) I’m really NOT a water person, so for the first time in my life I can swim continuously for 30+ minutes without panicking/giving up! I guess this injury is a blessing in disguise!

I haven’t been watching the bachelorette this season, but I loved Rachel on the bachelor last season!

My daughter Katie, who is 11, is so incredibly close to Callum (who is 3–our “blended family” baby)–they sleep together! He has such a hard time staying asleep all night but whenever Katie is here with us, he sleeps right through. Callum is also super close with my oldest son Jake, who is turning 17. Jake doesn’t live with us (he hasn’t had an easy path these last couple of years) but because Jake and I are so close, Callum actually sees him more than he sees my 2 step-kids. There are a lot of dynamics that go into this blended family scene! And now with the new baby coming, it feels really overwhelming but I know that having a brother for Callum will be such a gift to him–he will finally have a sibling that doesn’t keep leaving. I feel so old, but I know this is the right thing to do. All the kids’ reactions were so different–just like when they found out we were pregnant with Callum! And you know what? It’s a constant changing evolution of emotions because the kids who were first excited about it are the ones that aren’t as close, and vise versa.

Happy for you guys. Hold on tight, and enjoy the ride! xo

Reply

That video of the kids was adorable. I love when Knox asked if it was real!

I was planning on doing a YouTube workout this morning, but I must have slept on my shoulder funny last night because now my shoulder and one side of my back is all tight and achy. I guess today will be a rest day instead.

This was so beautiful to watch! I’m so excited for you family to grow, they are going to be such wonderful siblings!

Those kiddos of yours are so dang cute and sweet! I don’t remember how I told my oldest! It wasn’t anything planned out much or to to special I don’t think … I think we just sort of told him and he was like “okay” and that was it! He did come to the gender appointment and was beyond thrilled that we were having another boy.
I get my strength workouts from instagram (@blondeponytail), pinterest and I used to teach a weight lifting class and I remember the basics from that as well.
My workout today was a 4:45 am run on trails to the beach! I met a friend and it was amazing! Getting to the beach was the best part because it’s mostly down hill and the way up is killer – great for endurance/strength training!! Not great when you’re already sore!

They are so cute!!

I am the oldest of 8, and when I was 14 my mom was expecting #7 and I was a moody teenager. When she told us she was expecting again all I immediately thought about was more babysitting on my part and I may have said she was having another baby to “ruin my life”. Oh well! I was of course excited, but going into high school was going to be hard enough, and I was 14, so I have to excuse myself. And when she had #2 (after a few miscarriages) I was 5 and very spoiled by grandparents and having all the attention, so after a few weeks I told my mom to “take it back to the hospital”. My poor brother! He was pretty spoiled for a while because he had to wait 9 years before another boy came along……….my mom had girl-boy-girl-girl-girl-girl-boy-boy. The youngest is now 16 and so it is weird everyone is all grown up now!

Today is a long run…………..maybe 8 but hopefully 10……………been slacking off since my half marathon at the beginning of the month………….trying to rest my shin more and get over the annoyingness of it. It is sore for about 2 miles, then it is fine and the only time I ever notice it outside of running is going downstairs after a run day. I have some KT tape though, and that makes it so much better………..as long as I don’t stay out long enough to get a weird tan from the tape! Do you have any shin exercises or tips? It is 99% just my left shin, but every now and then the right one has sympathy pains. Annoying, not really painful.

Have a great day!

Todays workout: Week 1, Day 4 of my first half marathon training! 3 miles & Leg/core strength

I also wanted to tell you something! I’m so super excited/blessed! I’d been having hip and feet pain for awhile…and I had been trying to figure out how I’d afford some new shoes for this training…(No luck trying to win your recent Brook giveaway ;) ) But sunday I went to a second hand store for some work clothes and something told me to me to go to the athletic section. I found a brand new pair(yes NEW, at a second hand store!) pair of Brooks Launch 4’s…IN MY SIZE!!!! I couldn’t/still can believe it! Normally $100….more for $33!! So so happy. They feel amazing so far! <3

Happy Wednesday and congrats on kiddo #3!

Whoops… MINE for only $33 :)

Congrats on being pregnant!!!!!! When you decided to start trying, did you change your running/exercise or diet at all to improve fertility?
xo

Reply

Hey Kalena!!! So we basically became pregnant on the first cycleish after taking out the IUD so I didn’t do much different in terms of running/eating. I didn’t cut back my running until I was pregnant (and my body made me slow down… before I even knew I was pregnant). Overall, my diet was getting better in general too. I don’t drink alcohol or caffeine so those were already out of my diet which was nice! I hope you are having an amazing day!

Not snarking, just genuinely curious: how do your exes feel about you referring to yourselves and mommy and daddy/dada to the kids? Does Brooke refer to her stepmom as mommy or mama too and are you okay with it? (Or Knox with a stepdad) I think it’s an interesting dynamic of blending, as I’m sure when Knox calls Andrew Dad, Brooke wants to feel included in that. Just curious about how the other adults in the situation are taken into consideration

Reply

HEY MEGAN!!! Great question! So Brooke calls Andrew Dada (she is around him a lot!!!) and her dad knows this and is totally okay with it! Knox calls me Janae or nae-nae! When I am talking about myself though we refer to me as mom… it’s hard for me to remember to call myself both mom and Janae in the same sentence. I wish I could explain this through talking ha… A little harder to type out but yeah. Andrew and I don’t call me Janae or Nae-Nae in front of the kids, just mom… but when Knox is talking to me he calls me Janae/nae-nae.

Reply

Oh and to answer the other question, Brooke doesn’t have a step-mom yet but when she does she’ll just keep calling her her name. She is not around her very often and so it is a very different situation!

I was interested in this too, thanks for being so forthcoming Janae! Your openness and honesty is appreciated by your readers.
SO excited about your pregnancy. Congratulations!!

Omg that’s so cute how Knox wanted a sister on each side! Adorable! I don’t really remember my kids reactions to the news, but I’ll never forget how my middle daughter reacted to seeing my last baby the first time. She was almost 5 when I gave birth to my son, and in the hospital she not only didn’t want to hold him, she didn’t want to look at him or even be near him. Our pictures are pretty comical, she was giving him a side eye for sure!

Reply

Oh my goodness… haha I love your daughters reaction and the side eye pictures;) It is sure a change for these little kiddos, I think it is going to take some time for Brooke to adjust too once the baby is here! I hope you are having a beautiful day!

So cute!! Seriously, my eyes are NOT dry right now!! :) And it makes me so happy to hear you are so close with your older sibling despite (ah, I hate even using that word!) the age gap. We miscarried last year, and are hopeful to get pregnant again soon. We were slightly worried about the potential age gap (our Ben is almost 3), but this makes me really happy and hopeful!! :D Congratulations!!

Renee, I am truly so so sorry about your miscarriage last year. That breaks my heart. It is the most painful situation. I hope you are able to get pregnant soon too and please keep me updated. Thinking about you! Oh and don’t worry about that age gap… PS my sis and I are 7 years apart and pretty much separated at the hip!

That is so sweet the kids say “please bless OUR baby.” It’s their baby too!! That is so wonderful.

Sorry you’ve been so sick. I’m a few weeks ahead of you at 18 weeks pregnant right now but yeah the nighttime sickness has been way worse this time around (this is our second kiddo).

As for Bachelorette, I think Rachel is smart and beautiful but I’m not so enthused about her selection of guys. Lots of young model-actor LA wannabe types and guys that give me a “player” vibe. I feel like she needs a grown professional man, someone a little older and serious.

Reply

Congratulations on your newest addition ;)

I can’t get through the Bachelor/Bachelorette but you bet your bum I can sit through HOURS of the Real Housewives!!

Reply

I’m sorry about your miscarriage, and congratulate you on your new baby. I have three kids (6,4,2.5) and when I got pregnant this last time, we debated when we should tell them because the oldest goes to kindergarten and is QUITE chatty… but we just decided to do it and explain the difference between “family information” ie things we talk about freely in our own home and “everyone information” things that we can talk about anywhere and everywhere. We sat them down and told them that Mommy was so sick because there was a new baby growing in my body. They had A LOT of questions, and surprisingly the oldest kept it to himself until we decided to tell people. The four year old on the other hand… she told our next door neighbor within the week! They can not WAIT to meet their new sibling on November 4th (or thereabouts) and always have a thousand questions and suggestions. Just this morning my son (6) said something told him the baby was a boy… and that something was the Holy Ghost!!! We just laughed and said, “We’ll see!”

Reply

We didn’t tell our parents until I was 16 weeks. We wanted to 1. Surprise them on Christmas 2. Make sure I didn’t miscarry. So I don’t blame you for not sharing until you were more out of the danger zone.

I’ve gotten a lot of my strength workouts off of Pinterest. Though I go to the gym because I don’t have any good sized weights at home. I’ve also loved attending barre.

I’m planning on going to the gym to do some strength training tonight and maybe go for another walk. Trying to get this baby out! :S

Reply

My kiddos are 20, almost 18, and 14…and I guess (once again) my mother is right!!!!

You really do forget the things YOU think you won’t ever forget!! Like how WE told the other kids we were pregnant with a sibling…nope, I am sitting here thinking and thinking and thinking and its KILLING ME…I honestly cannot remember at all!!

I guess I could look through their baby albums and hope I wrote it down but that would mean a lot of work to find the albums and I’m kind of lazy right now….hahaha!!

My hint to you…write it all down…you will probably forget it too…ha! P.S. I loved Knox’s immediate interest in the baby and the news!!

The kids are too funny, I’m glad they are excited. My friend recently had baby #2 and her first is just too cute with the baby.

I like to mix my strength training up so I do online videos, dvds, body pump class, gym circuit and my own thing. I get bored and I feel I work my muscles better when I switch things around.

Today was upper body strength training at the gym and yoga in my yard to welcome the solstice. I may not love the heat but I am grateful for the yummy produce, extra sunlight, and beach time!

Aww what a cute way to tell the kids. I always need help from a friend, online video or something for strength training. I have a very hard thinking up things, and then not knowing if they are ‘correct’. If I’m by myself, I can come up with a total of 3 whole moves. haha

So happy for y’all! That video is precious. My stepson was 9 when we found out we were pregnant. I was right at 12 weeks around Halloween, and he had been saying he wanted to carve Jack-o-lanterns. So we bought a pumpkin for each of the 3 of us and convinced him we should each carve our initials in them. After we put the three of them out I said we were missing one, and my husband went back inside and brought out a tiny pumpkin he had carved a question mark into. It took my stepson a second to get it but then he was stoked! :)

We told our kiddos while camping in the San Juan Islands….over a campfire. My oldest was 10 at the time and kind of had that “oh my gosh I can’t look at you” face going on but was super excited. My youngest was 4 and was super excited like all 4 year old girls. And my middle-he was very matter of fact ( was 8) and even keeled and wanted to name the baby something “pretty.”

That cloud is so perfect to block the sun. It’s been SUPER HOT here too and I am not a heat/humidity person at all. Ran 10km in the morning then did yoga in the evening. Basically I was sweaty all day.

Brooke and Knox are so adorable!!!!!

Am I the only one who has trouble following exercise videos? As hard as I try, I can’t seem to convince myself that these people are real and know whether I’m doing what I’m supposed to be doing (they’re just as happy whether I do my squats or sit on the couch and eat popcorn). I do much better with classes (I do very well there with deluding myself into thinking that the instructors will be disappointed in me if I don’t try my hardest, haha), but they cost more time/money obviously. Any tips?

Our girls are 5 and 8 months and the age difference has worked out just fine so far! We tried to ensure our 5 year old (was 4 when baby was born) continued to feel special/ a part of things as we talked about baby’s upcoming arrival . We referred to the baby’s due date as our older daughter’s ‘big sister day!’ We let her meet the baby before anyone else and she got to tell the grandparents the gender! She loved yelling “it’s a girl! I’m a big sister!” Congratulations and all the best for a smooth pregnancy!

Okay, we are totally going to use that with our kids and the baby’s due date, thank you for such an awesome idea. That is SO cute that your little girl was the one able to tell everyone the gender! Thank you Liz and I hope you are having a great night!

Hi Janae! Congrats on your pregnancy – you have the most beautiful family and reading your blog always makes me feel happy and positive! I was just wondering how your family reacted with you and Andrew moving relatively quickly? I am kind of in the same boat and I was just wondering how your family was in terms of accepting Andrew, any concerns etc. Have a lovely day!
