What does a runner do and HAVE YOU SEEN THIS?!

I woke up and my knee was definitely not ready for running.  It still might be a few more days even though I’m really hoping my Monday will start with a run:)  I think there must be some sort of deep bruise in there but I can bend it completely and walk on it… just want it to be really ready for running.  So what does a runner that always does some sort of long run on a Saturday morning do when they aren’t running?  I really had to think about the answer to this question yesterday morning for some time;)

We go to the Farmer’s Market to walk around and get some fresh fruit or smoothies to munch on….

But then we got to the Farmer’s Market and realized it doesn’t start until next weekend.  Boo.

Next option, go grab some breakfast together.

We went to Black Bear Diner for our first time ever and for the first time on this blog (I think…) I didn’t love it (usually I go on and on about how much I love restaurants right?!).

Andrew didn’t love it either.  BUT Brooke was so confused about why we didn’t like it because she said the pancakes were the best she has ever had.  We had to convince her to come home with us.

IMG 6510

We spent the rest of the morning getting chores done (Brooke was a big help) around the house and yard work too.

Brooke then had two birthday parties to attend… Our Saturday turned out to be nuts.

IMG 6516

Birthday party #1 was on her own and #2 was with us.

IMG 6521

I want a donut eating from a string competition at my 32nd bday party.

IMG 6553

From there we went straight to a meet-up with three of my greatest friends from high school. We do not see each other enough but whenever we do, we pick right back up from where we left off.

IMG 6567

We decided to have a salad bar so we each brought a few of our favorite salad bar toppings and boom… the perfect dinner.

IMG 6560

If I could just have a salad bar set up like this on my counter every day of my life, I would be very happy.  I definitely went back for more.

IMG 6561

From there we went over to my parent’s house… they had a big get-together for my brother that is in town for 23 hours.  My sister gave Brooke Curly’s old Elsa dress so be prepared to see this dress in pretty much 90% of Brooke’s photos from here on out.  We did the Elsa braid shortly after.  PS my mom still hasn’t seen Frozen.. I think she and Brooke need to sit down and watch that this week together.

IMG 6572

My mom pulled out this gorgeous dessert from Costco (yes, our family has an extreme fond connection to that large store).

IMG 6575

And for the other option she had ice cream sandwiches!  Andrew and I watched Passengers when we got home.  It was SO good.

IMG 6585

My nephew is rocking the 300m hurdles… look at him FLY!! I would be very afraid to try a hurdle judging by the fact that I can’t run on a sidewalk without falling lately.

Have you seen this!?! Kilian Jornet ran/climbed up Mount Everest in JUST 26 hours (the fastest known time) w/no bottled oxygen or fixed ropes!  “Running is Kilian’s life.”

Hurdles freak me out! Great job though!

3 things: run, make sprinkle bday pancakes for my freshly 10 year old son!, and help my mama clean the family cabin.

Happy Sunday!

First, you’re making an incredibly intelligent decision not to run on it. It will heal so much faster that way. I’m glad nothing is seriously hurt though!

Second, we need to go for a run and diner together. That one looks most excellent.

What a fun weekend! I’m going to hiking to waterfalls today, eating lots of fresh fruit and hopefully getting a haircut :-)

Today is my rest day! Not sure how restful it will be since we are hosting dinner with my two closest friends and their families. It should be a fun day!
Three things for today- drinking coffee, cleaning and making s’mores!
I hope your knee is healed tomorrow and you can run.
FYI- for Andrew- it is Harry Potter weekend (on Freeform channel) and in between cleaning and cooking there will be lots of Harry Potter!

THANK YOU FOR LETTING HIM KNOW:) You are the best Leanne and I hope your dinner tonight was perfect!! Thanks so much!

Wow, how is Killian Jornet even possible?! I follow EverestNoFilter on Snapchat, and they just summitted Everest yesterday, one guy without oxygen, and one with. It was crazy to watch; I was scared I would see their deaths in real time. They did show a dead body once, and explained why they can’t take the bodies off Everest and bring them home. (Too heavy, etc.) So how someone ran it so quickly without oxygen blows my mind!

Went to the gym for 20 minutes of weights, outside run in the rain. Enjoying my coffee now waiting for the rest of the house to wake up, and catching up on blog reading….then hoping to get some much needed landscaping done in the front of our house. Will not be shortchanged on exercise today.

I would LOVE to have a salad bar like that too everyday of my life. Sometimes I just go to Whole Foods just because I want to make my own salad from the salad bar lol.

Really hope your knee gets better by tomorrow. Happy Sunday, Janae:)

I do the same at Whole Foods! I buy a bag of kale from Trader Joe’s and then fill a small box at Whole Foods with all toppings!

That is a great idea!

I’m so sorry about your knee. I was running back in April and tripped over an uneven sidewalk and fell hard. I had to take 10 days off. My knee still has some inflammation but it’s so much better.

3 things-singing at church. Going to surprise party for my aunt. Spending time with family in Ks. My daughter and I flew in from California for the weekend.

We played with a jet launcher from Target- those hot spot toys are the best! It’s supposed to rain so we are going to make play dough later :)
I put in a half hour on the treadmill listening to Up and Vanished. I just finished the third episode and love it so far. I love listening to podcasts while I run, or lately, walk! Thanks for recommending it!!!

Final stage of the Giro d’Italia – it all comes down to today’s time trial and there are only 53 seconds separating the top 4. Pulling for Tom Dumoulin! (Huge cycling fans here!) Then church and a nap.

We have only been to Black Bear Diner once and I can’t remember if it was good or not. I’m thinking it was just okay since I am not raving over whatever I had.

And yes, I want a salad bar at my house, too. I love salads with a million toppings.

I hope your knee is feeling better soon! I know it’s frustrating but giving it some rest will do it better in the long run!

Today’s looking to be a pretty lazy day after walking/running 7 miles around Chicago yesterday. Went out to breakfast with my brother and am stuffed now and just enjoying some good ol’ couch time now. Happy Sunday!

3 things I have/ am going to do today

1. I got up early to see the sunrise run 11 miles while my partner was still sleeping. I
2. Find out where there is apparently no hot water in our shower!
3. Visit MEC (Canadian equivalent of REI) to find a sleeping bag for him.

Reply

Sounds like the perfect run Kristine, so glad you were able to see the sunrise! I hope that you get hot water asap!

Congrats to your nephew on the hurdles! I’ve always been sure I’ll fall flat on my face if I try. Very impressive!

I have fallen like that before, and my coach / trainer (I forget) figured out that I had bruised the bones / my knee caps. The bones were actually swollen for quite some time. If you break your nose/ jaw / finger etc., it can take like 9 mos for swelling to go down, so I feel like it is really possible that you might need a few extra days! Such a bummer, so sorry to hear it. I’m sure Andrew has great insight & is taking great care of you!

Up to 9 months for your nose/jaw/finger… WOW!! Thank you for letting me know about that Lucy! I seriously thought it would just hurt for the day or something but it is lasting a lot longer! Thank you so much for taking the time to share, I hope you have a great week!

Your breakfast looks delicious!
1. Gym
2. Homework
3. Tomorrow’s blog post

Your nephew is FLYING, and I loved that video of Kilian, he is unbelievable! I’m glad you’re resting that knee, you are a smart cookie. A very close friend of mine ran her first marathon today and owned it!

Reply

Oh tell her congrats for me Jade, that is awesome! Thank you and I hope you have an amazing week!

Fruit on salad is the best. Same with something crunchy like pumpkin seeds/sunflower seeds/slivered almonds. Yum. Funny thing is I wouldn’t add a veggie to my *fruit* salad. noooo carrots or broccoli thrown into a bowl of melon! weird.

Hurdles=extreme bravery!

3 things;
Unpack/laundry from being out of town 3.5 days
Long bike ride
Refrain from complaining about cycling in the heat

Reply

I am SO glad that you agree… hahah I’ve never thought of it the other way but you are so right! I hope your long bike ride was fabulous and that it wasn’t too hot! Have an awesome week Kelly!

Reply

That salad bar looks DELICIOUS. Running Everest! That video blew my mind. I can’t wait to learn more about that.

3 things I’ve done/ will do today:
1. church
2. long walk/ a little yoga
3. My nephew’s 2nd birthday party!

Have so much fun at your nephew’s bday party… the best!!!

That’s too bad you didn’t like Black Bear Diner, I actually really like it! Maybe that location isn’t great? I hope your knee feels better!

A few weeks ago I asked you if you wear the exact same brand and style of shoe. I’d had a stress fracture in my foot which the doctor said was from wearing the same shoes. Below is an update to that which was two weeks ago.

So I don’t need to worry about breaking my foot due to running in the same shoe. I just broke my ankle (same foot) this morning trail running in the wonderful mountains behind my house. Yesterday I found a new trail and it was fabulous. So today I went up there again and thought I would try another new trail. Turns out it led to a dead end, so I turned around and was heading back down. It was super steep and rocky, and I slipped, turned my ankle, and fell. I sat there for 10-15 minutes thinking it would heal in that amount of time so I could continue my run :) I was wrong. I was about 1 mile away from home, so I hobbled (gimped) all the way back home. It is super swollen, and I happen to work for a group of orthopedic surgeons so I decided to have it looked at. It’s broken. I have to be in a boot and on crutches for three weeks. Then they’ll do another x-ray. Hopefully at that time I can ditch the crutches. But the doc said 2-3 months no running. I AM LITERALLY GOING TO DIE!!!!! It’s my total escape and freedom and love!!! I cried most of the way back home gimping along out of pain, and being totally and completely mad!!! I have never been in as good of shape as I am in now and now I’m going to lose it all!!!! I just ran the SLC Marathon and felt good the whole run. I just turned 50, so I was feeling pretty dang awesome. I even made it on the news that night, probably because I told them I am old :) So, I guess I do my best to obey the doc so I can get back out running as soon as possible. But it is going to KILL ME!!!!! And there you have my sob story for the day.

Since then I stubbed my big toe of my good foot on my knee scooter and partially ripped the toenail off. Had to go have it surgically removed and was in a protective boot for that foot for a few days. If I could attach a pic of me in my 2 boots I would. Pretty comical. I didn’t know whether to laugh or cry. I did both. I’m only two weeks into my 2-3 months of not being able to run and I’m going out of my mind!!!

Good luck with your knee!!!

Kilian is crazy (in the best sense of the word). I’d heard about this, but hadn’t seen the video. Thanks for sharing!
