SURVEY kind of a day (with a prize/package from me!!) + our Tuesday NIGHT!

Happy Wednesday! I hope your day is off to a beautiful start!  I decided today would be the perfect day to have a survey because these questions are very important matters to me:)  I cannot wait to hear your answers!  But first, I have to share a bit from our day/night!

Last night Andrew and I went out for our weekly (ehhh try to get out weekly just the two of us) date!  We went to see the new Pirates movie and we absolutely loved it.  It was SO intense but so good.

We also had to stop at Cafe Rio afterwards for the good stuff.  It had been at least 3 weeks since our last visit.

Brooke had a blast with grandma and they went on a walk, played cards and learned about birds.

IMG 6848

She is always in the best mood at my mom’s house:)

IMG 6851

My mom had us stay for some brownies and catching up afterwards which was fun.

IMG 6857

Oh and earlier on in the day we hit up the pool and enjoyed the sun!

I am in love with cherries right now.  I can’t stop.

A smoothie afterwards was necessary because we needed to cool-down!

Let’s play a game today!  Answer these questions in the comments and I’ll randomly select one person that answered the questions (I’ll use random.org to choose) to send a gift package of some random food/running things:)  PS you don’t have to answer all of the questions to enter for package/prize… just half or more (and if you aren’t a runner then answer them about your favorite workout).

1. If you could have one meal that was in your kitchen and waiting for you to eat each day after your run, what would it be (for this meal we are pretending that anything/everything is fair game… it’s all healthy, nutritious and will help your recovery so say whatever you think would be the yummiest)?!?

2. Would you rather have to eat 6 donuts or a large burrito in the middle of your next long run?

3. If I handed you a $100 gift card to a running website (that has EVERYTHING running related)…  WHAT WOULD YOU SPEND THE $100 on (details are appreciated)?

4. Fill in the blank:  If it is ________________ outside, I will not run outside.  Would you then either choose to run on the treadmill or not at all?

5. If you could go on a run with any famous person or famous athlete… WHO would it be?

6. If you could go back in time and choose any race that you have done in the past and have that same experience all over again, which one would it be?

7. If your best friend decided to become a runner today and you could give her one piece of advice, WHAT WOULD THAT BE?!

8. What is one weird/different thing you do during your runs?

9. What is your usual race/hard run reward afterwards? A food/drink/other?

10. What has been the biggest change in your running from when you very first started until now?

You can copy the questions down in your comments or just number the questions that you are answering:)

Good morning. Thanks for the contest. It’s a beautiful morning in NW MO!!!!

2. 6 donuts for sure!! Donuts are my weakness. Jelly filled, bavarian filled, carmel long johns, chocolate cake donuts. All the donuts!!!!
4. If it is “anything” outside I do a treadmill run. I run at 5:15 am before work and while my kids sleep so ALL my runs are on the tm. I LOVE watching AMHQ on The Weather Channel while I run. The meteorologists are funny and they make my run go by quickly.
6. I probably would do a 5K that went through historic areas of our town and both my kids did it too. We could use the streets and there was enough police directing traffic that I could let my then 12 year old run ahead of me and my then 9 year old. Afterward we proudly went out for pumpkin pancakes with our medals around our necks. I would repeat in a heartbeat walking/hiking rim to rim at the Grand Canyon. That was an amazing experience that I want to repeat soon.
9. Reward food????………probably a Kodiak Cake chocolate waffle with a scoop of ice cream on top and extra chocolate chips and peanut butter.
10. Biggest change in running from first to now? The fact that I can actually run/jog 3 miles continuously without stopping. I’ll walk fast and even do a few short sprints for 3 more miles but that first 3 miles of running aren’t easy for me. I have respect and admiration for long distance runners.

Have a great day!

1. Grilled chicken
2. Doesn’t matter, cuz it’s coming back up either way….
3. SHOES or a new hydration belt or pack.
4. if it’s thunder storming, I am going on the treadmill.
5. Any Olympic runner, so inspiring!
6. Madison Marathon 2014, my PR!
7. Embrace the suck and don’t take it too seriously.
8. If I might not hit my miles before I get home and the run is sucking, I run around things. Like I have to run around all the fire hydrants or if it is garbage day, all the garbage cans.
9. Pizza!
10. I like to cross train now and switch things up when I am in a rut.

I love sautéed sweet potato with a fried egg on top. In the summer, I love a smoothie!

2. Would you rather have to eat 6 donuts or a large burrito in the middle of your next long run?
Donuts are my weakness!

3. If I handed you a $100 gift card to a running website (that has EVERYTHING running related)… WHAT WOULD YOU SPEND THE $100 on (details are appreciated)?
I need socks! I would also like to find a nice pair of shades. My current pair fog up….

4. Fill in the blank: If it is ________________ outside, I will not run outside. Would you then either choose to run on the treadmill or not at all?

Pouring rain. I like to run in light rain but I hate when my feet get wet. I used to love treadmill but last time I used it heavily I get a shin splint. Who has time for that so I’m outside in all elements!

5. If you could go on a run with any famous person or famous athlete… WHO would it be?
Kevin Hart! Hilarious and a runner. Win-win
6. If you could go back in time and choose any race that you have done in the past and have that same experience all over again, which one would it be?
My first half! OKC Memorial was amazing!

7. If your best friend decided to become a runner today and you could give her one piece of advice, WHAT WOULD THAT BE?!
Slow down to build your base. I thought I had to kill every run when I first started.

8. What is one weird/different thing you do during your runs?
I like to soak my feet in the stream! I also find that’s it weird but I have to wear my phone arm band on my right arm. I tried to wear it in my left to even out my tan lines and couldn’t handle it! I could barely run..

9. What is your usual race/hard run reward afterwards? A food/drink/other?
Waffles or frappacino.

10. What has been the biggest change in your running from when you very first started until now?
I stopped competing with everyone. I run for me now. Fast or slow-it’s all for me!

1. Chocolate Shake
2. Donuts!
3. Shoes or apply it towards a new Garmin
4. WINDY…. I hate the wind. or Foggy because that’s just dangerous.
5. Kara Goucher
6. My first Half Marathon the CA Classic. I was injured and ran anyway, but I was in great shape for it.
7. Take it slow
8. If I’m on an easy run and a worship song comes on I will lift my hands to worship the Lord.
9. a Nap!
10. It’s on the treadmill more. We moved to the hills so running on the road isn’t safe. There is a trail behind my house but i’m scared to venture out there by myself.

Fried egg and cheese breakfast sandwich with avocado and iced coffee

2. Would you rather have to eat 6 donuts or a large burrito in the middle of your next long run?
I LOVE burritos but have to go with donuts for during a run

3. If I handed you a $100 gift card to a running website (that has EVERYTHING running related)… WHAT WOULD YOU SPEND THE $100 on (details are appreciated)?
Running shoes – I’ve always ran in ASICS but have also wanted to try Brooks

6. If you could go back in time and choose any race that you have done in the past and have that same experience all over again, which one would it be?
Nike Womens Half in SF – I just felt great the entire time and had a blast running with so many other strong women

7. If your best friend decided to become a runner today and you could give her one piece of advice, WHAT WOULD THAT BE?!
Stick with it and you will see why running is so awesome. It’s so hard in the beginning but all worth it.

9. What is your usual race/hard run reward afterwards? A food/drink/other?
Eating a lot of food, drinking beers, and a hot bath

10. What has been the biggest change in your running from when you very first started until now?
It was so hard when I first started and I enjoyed it for the challenge it provided. Now I still of course have hard runs but I love that it de-stresses me, makes me feel strong and amazing, and gives me focus and energy to tackle my days.

1. Smoothie or Shake – something cold and yummy!
2. Burrito
3. Brooks – On running shoes, I just bought my first pair or Launch shoes (I think my first Brooks ever!) and now I want to try the Pureflows. I love Brooks now that I have tried them.
4. Raining or Snowing
5. Maybe Kara or you or someone fun and chatty – everyone would have to slow their pace for me to keep up!
6. I remember seeing my parents at mile 4 of my second(I have only done 3) half marathon and my one year old daughter at the finish of the Portland Rock n Roll – it was very special and my fastest half marathon so far.
7. To run with me – its so much more fun to run with a friend!
8. I laugh at my podcasts sometimes and I feel like everyone looks at me weird.
9. Reward drink: sometime a mimosa or just a good smoothie makes my day
10. My biggest change is feeling like I have goal. I used to just go for the mileage and follow my plan but no really knowing what my goal time as for a certain run or race. I am also just starting to add some speed. I am still a beginning runner!

What awesome questions! I had to stop and answer them straight away :)
1. Poached eggs on toast :) Although I don’t usually fancy anything that big after a run so I’d have chocolate soya milk and a bit of cheese (or chocolate, ha!), and then eggs on toast a while later.
2. Hmm, burrito
3. I would put it towards a fancy Garmin (a 230, say), but I would then hide it from my current Garmin until it’s had a bit more use (I love my Garmin but I do yearn after some of the higher spec models!)
4. Fill in the blank: If it is raining hard outside, I will not run outside. I don’t have access to a treadmill so I guess I’d run another day, or do indoor exercises instead.
5. I’m British so I’d choose a guy called Ben 401 who has recently raised a ton of money for anti-bullying charities by running 401 marathons in 401 days.
6. I’ve not done many races so it would be our local half marathon (this March past) as the atmosphere was amazing and I got a big PB. My first half marathon is a bit special too, as it was a big personal challenge, my family were all there, and I was raising money for a cause close to me. My nephew got to run a short section with me too, which was really nice.
7. If it hurts you’re going too fast. Slow down and enjoy it!
8. After having gait analysis yesterday, apparently it’s throwing one leg out weirdly with every step!
9. Chocolate soya milk :)
10. Distance, then speed, and more recently, trying to change from a heel to a mid-foot strike. But more generally, it’s confidence – I started running with other people and realised I could be fast and strong :)

1. Usually after a long run I crave meat so probably a big ol burger with a sweet potato on the side.

2. Donuts…sugar boost. ;)

3. Shoes for sure! You can never have enough as a runner. PS its hard for me to get rid of my old shoes due to memories of runs attached to them. Anyone else have that problem?!

4. If its over 12+ mph wind I am treadmill bound for sure. I am a baby when it comes to wind but cold doesn’t bother me.

5. Hmm probably Kara Goucher.

6. Twin Cities Marathon without a doubt. I qualified for Boston there and it was the best feeling run the entire time…well almost the entire time. :)

7. Enjoy the process of building speed and mileage. Don’t be to hard are on yourself. Running is a mental game as well as a physical game.

8. Not sure I can think of any really weird things besides maybe some of the faces I make when I am struggling to keep a pace. lol

9. A beer with the hubs.

10. Pace and mileage but that also has changed a few times throughout my running history and I am sure it will continue to shift as things in life of come.

How fun!!

1. I seriously crave a Diet Coke after my runs…terrible for you, I know but I think it is something about the sodium. I have cut out Diet Coke cold turkey from my life but the craving still remains. Of course this is followed by hummus and pita chips (also probably for the sodium). See the trend?

2. Seeing that I felt like throwing up the donut I had on my last long run, I may have to go for a burrito. Although both seem like terrible ideas.

3. Ohh this is a toughie. I have an obsession with running shoes (think >10 pairs currently) so I may go to my favorite running store in Boston, Marathon Sports, and spend my money there. The company CEO and the staff are so darn friendly and helpful. Additionally, they are so supportive of Boston runners.

4. If it is icy, I will not run outside. I love running in the snow (I’ve trained for Boston during two Boston winters) but forget the ice. I don’t need to break a bone. I might do a short run on the treadmill.

5. Oh, Will Ferrell. He not only runs but also would probably give me a good core workout with his jokes.

6. My first Boston. It was also my first marathon and I think there’s something truly special and memorable about that.

7. Running is about you and what you can do. Never make it about others or what you are not accomplishing.

8. I’m not sure if this is weird but I have a tendency to listen to the same song on repeat no matter how long the run is…it may drive other people crazy. One could say I’m obsessive. We won’t even discuss which songs.

9. A diet coke and a massage for sure. Although I truly love crawling into my bed with my hot blanket turned on high and vegging all day followed by some sushi.

10. I’m much smarter about running and have realized the need for core strength to avoid injuries. I also have realized that I do not need to run every day to maintain my fitness and that cross training is just as important.

Reply

1. a nice cold smoothie after a hot run!
2. oh…during the run – neither – that would make me sick! after the run I would pick the donuts

2. Donuts for sure

3. Shoes! I need another pair of patriotic Brooks’ Launch!
4. If it is storming AND dark, I will not run outside. I’ll treadmill it instead! I’ve run 21 miles on the treadmill before and it doesn’t bother me one bit.
5. If I had to pick a famous person or athlete, I would probably pick Bill Rodgers. I love his book. If it wasn’t a famous person, I’d really like to run with all my loved ones and friends so that I could share what I love with the people I love.
6. I would redo my first marathon, the CIM. I had an amazing day and Boston Qualified to top it off!
7. I would tell my best friend to not compare themselves to anyone else’s running, and to not overdo it too fast/too soon. It is easy to get obsessed and get hurt!
8. When I was little I had an episode of seizures. After that, the doctors would always ask me to do this hand motion to see if my brain was function correctly. It was to tap each finger together. Sometimes I will catch myself doing that while I am running and not even notice I was doing it!
9. I love a cheeseburger, sweet potato fries, and wine. With a chocolate chip cookie for dessert.
10. Now I know how fast/long I run because I wear a watch and love to train for specific races. When I first started, I would just run around until I felt done and I loved that too!

Thank you for hosting such a fun giveaway!

2. Donuts or burrito: Donuts. Although I once did a 20 miler after a Cafe Rio burrito–surprisingly no gastro issues!
3. $100 gift card: Running SHOES! (Brooks Ghost)
4. If it is snowing. Or below freezing, windy, dark and cold. (I’m in the warm part of the country, and would rather run in the sun when it’s 80+). No dreadmill. Ever. Outside beats dreadmill almost any day of the year.
5. Run with a Chris: Chris Pratt, Chris Pine, Chris Evans, or Chris Hemsworth. Or Kevin Spacey because he photobombs people when he runs. Athlete? If I could time travel (and keep up with them): run with Flojo or Edwin Moses. (I’m old).
6. I don’t want to relive the races I’ve already done–I’ve already enjoyed them. I want a race on my horizon to look forward to.
7. Advice: Most people don’t run slow enough or long enough to find their inner runner. Start slow. Keep running. Speed with come eventually, and if it doesn’t, who cares? Just run.
8. Weird thing or thing to change? Nothing really. I just want to keep running. Until I’m 90+.
9. Reward: A big cold diet soda.
10. Biggest change? I started running consistently consistently 8 years ago. I’ve lost weight and improved speed. But mostly, I’m grateful to be able to run.

8. LOL, I use the restroom A LOT. Like, I know every restroom within a 5 mile radius of my house and I run with flushable wipes. Good times.

9. I don’t know that I have a usual reward for after hard workouts/races. I typically just go with whatever sounds good at that moment :)

10. The biggest change has been my confidence in my ability.

5) Meb, of course!

7) My best friend is already my Sole Sister!
8) I have to finish my runs on an even number on my Garmin, no 0.17 miles!
9) Food and ice cold beer!
10) When I started running, I never believed I would be able to run multiple half marathons, 4 full marathons, and 1 ultra marathon!

1. If you could have one meal that was in your kitchen and waiting for you to eat each day after your run, what would it be (for this meal we are pretending that anything/everything is fair game… it’s all healthy, nutritious and will help your recovery so say whatever you think would be the yummiest)?!?
Either rice and beans or a giant bagel sandwich

2. Would you rather have to eat 6 donuts or a large burrito in the middle of your next long run? definitely the burrito!
3. If I handed you a $100 gift card to a running website (that has EVERYTHING running related)… WHAT WOULD YOU SPEND THE $100 on (details are appreciated)? A really good sports bra (or two!)…it’s always a challenge finding one when you are larger chested. And maybe some nice leggings.
4. Fill in the blank: If it is ________________ outside, I will not run outside. Would you then either choose to run on the treadmill or not at all? If it is hot and humid, I can’t run outside. I would choose the treadmill for sure!
5. If you could go on a run with any famous person or famous athlete… WHO would it be? Barack Obama
6. If you could go back in time and choose any race that you have done in the past and have that same experience all over again, which one would it be? Lake Placid Classic. Gorgeous course, during my favorite month!
7. If your best friend decided to become a runner today and you could give her one piece of advice, WHAT WOULD THAT BE?! Take it slow and invest in good running shoes.
8. What is one weird/different thing you do during your runs? I carry my cell phone…still trying to find an arm band that doesn’t chafe, or shorts/leggings with decent pockets. I am too afraid to not have it…I’ve suffered from injuries in the past and had to call for a ride home more than once.
9. What is your usual race/hard run reward afterwards? A food/drink/other? Cookies!
10. What has been the biggest change in your running from when you very first started until now? I’ve learned so much about fueling and cross training, and am much stronger and have much more endurance than when I began years ago.

1. Egg Sandwich on an NY bagel or on sourdough bread with cheddar cheese and ham
3. Right now I need shorts!! Still trying to figure out which ones and then I would get some new socks.
4. Pouring rain- no treadmill for me…I just take it as a sign to slow down for the day or cross train.
6. The Mohawk Hudson Marathon in Albany, NY- it was my 2nd marathon and the first 1/2 is on a bike path so my uncle stayed with me and then at the halfway point one of my best friends met me and ran the rest of the way with me. It was a PR for me and tons of my friends and family supported me along the course. Best race ever!!
7. Don’t feel that you have to go faster/longer just because someone else is doing it. Don’t compare your progress to someone else- just go your own pace and enjoy your own running journey.
9. Diet Coke from McDonalds (only McDonalds) I rarely drink soda but its the first thing I crave after a long race!
10. I don’t push myself just to get it done anymore. That led to too many injuries. Now I listen to my body more and have fun!

This is perfect– I’m moving from Utah to Washington State today, so I need to keep occupied on the long drive! (My husband, 75lb puppy and I are crammed in a moving truck towing our car…Wish I could be on a run.)

1. Definitely avocado and fried egg sandwich! On some type of seedy bread! Makes my life feel complete every time.

2. The six donuts. They’d give me the sugar/carbs to power through, but burritos always weigh me down (still in a coma from my burrito last night).

3. A supportive sports bra! I have a small ribcage yet am “blessed” in the boob department… Almost everywhere only sells up to DD, but I need bigger, so I end up spending $70+ on every bra at a specialty store :( I only have one good running bra!

5. Meb! I’ve been spectating or volunteering at every Boston Marathon since I was born in ’92, so it would be so amazing :)

8. It’s so gross… I blow snot on my sleeves. In the winter, I do it constantly on my gloves. Yuck.

7. Don’t try to go too fast, wear something comfortable and cute, focus on the mile you’re in.
8. I like to run on the treadmill (my kids are 10, 8, & 1, so I get to run more often on the treadmill!), and I don’t like to choose between TV or music, so I put the TV on mute with closed captioning (lately watching Tyler Henry, the Hollywood Medium) while blasting music. My husband finds this weird.
9. After a big race, I like to splurge on a favorite meal (preferably something that includes chips & queso as well as dessert).

3, My nephew (age 7) ran his first 5k on Saturday and placed 2nd in his age group. I would buy him real running shoes and a watch if there was any leftover.

4, Lightening. (I am laughing here in Houston, TX about all those that say they won’t run in heat & humidity!! It’s what we run in everyday. It results in great facials!)

5, Rachel McBride, a professional triathlete I follow on Instagram. She just seems so down to earth while being an incredible racer.

I would have never dreamed to run longer than a half marathon when I started running.

3. If I handed you a $100 gift card to a running website (that has EVERYTHING running related)… WHAT WOULD YOU SPEND THE $100 on (details are appreciated)?

6. If you could go back in time and choose any race that you have done in the past and have that same experience all over again, which one would it be?

3. A Garmin watch (which would probably take up the whole $100 :)
4. If it is storming outside, I will not run outside. It depends on my mood – if I felt the need to workout that day then definitely on the treadmill, but a nice cup of cocoa and pjs in bed also sound nice for a huge storm outside!
5. SUCH A GOOD QUESTION – I would pick an athlete so they could tell me about their workouts ;) Lebron James

A huge smoothie bowl with lots of toppings and a huge bowl of watermelon

2. Would you rather have to eat 6 donuts or a large burrito in the middle of your next long run?

6 donuts

3. If I handed you a $100 gift card to a running website (that has EVERYTHING running related)… WHAT WOULD YOU SPEND THE $100 on (details are appreciated)?

I would buy a pair of running shorts (probably black or navy or purple), a tight fitting tank (in a bright color), and a long sleeve pullover in black or dark grey.

4. Fill in the blank: If it is ________________ outside, I will not run outside. Would you then either choose to run on the treadmill or not at all?

90 degrees and humid, I would either go super early in the morning or go on the Dreadmill lol

5. If you could go on a run with any famous person or famous athlete… WHO would it be?

Gina Rodriguez from Jane the Virgin

6. If you could go back in time and choose any race that you have done in the past and have that same experience all over again, which one would it be?

It would be the State Cross Country meet my junior year of high school! I got my PR of 19:37 there for the 3 mile, and it was just amazing.

7. If your best friend decided to become a runner today and you could give her one piece of advice, WHAT WOULD THAT BE?!

Don’t put too much pressure on yourself to run a certain pace or do anything in a certain time. Listen to your body and enjoy the run! Tune out anything that has been going on, and just run. Make sure to take in your surroundings and enjoy the fresh air!

8. What is one weird/different thing you do during your runs?

I think it is from track, but for some reason, when I run, my head always tilts to the side. IT WON’T STAY STRAIGHT haha

9. What is your usual race/hard run reward afterwards? A food/drink/other?

I love going out for brunch if it is a morning race, and getting an omelette or pancakes. If it is a later race, I love going out to a place near my house that has amazing salads and sweet potatoes fries.

10. What has been the biggest change in your running from when you very first started until now?

I have become more relaxed with running, because when I ran in high school, there was so much pressure to be fast and hit certain times and paces. Now, I do it for my own sanity, and to be able to get outside and relax and enjoy the fresh air. I have taken pressure off myself to hit certain times or run a certain pace, because I love running and I don’t want it to turn into a chore.

1. I would have to say watermelon for sure. I could probably eat the whole thing in one sitting. Please don’t judge me.
2. As much as I crave salty foods during long runs, I would have to take the donuts to avoid porta-potty stops!
3. I would have to say a new pair of Brooks Launch 4’s to start my marathon training in! But they also have some sweet hot pink Vanguard’s too :)
4. If it is storming outside, I will not run outside. Lightning terrifies me. I would just run on the treadmill, which I normally have to do in the mornings while the kids are sleeping. I actually trained for my last marathon all on the treadmill so my girls could play in the basement while I ran. It was very tough mentally but I think it helped me on race day with the whole mental game. Plus I got to watch This is Us and Parenthood on Netflix
5. I would have to say Des or Meb. I love watching them run and they seem like such awesome people. They might get sick of me talking and asking them questions though lol :)
6. I would choose the Chicago Marathon. It was my first and it was so hard, but the crowds were unbelievable and I seriously cried the last 4 miles because I couldn’t believe I was running a full marathon! And there was nothing better than seeing my husband at the finish line with a rose:)
7. I would tell her not to try and compare herself with every single runner on Instagram or other social media platforms. I did that for a very long time until I just decided that I was doing my very best and one day I could be that fast. We’re all different in so many ways and the fact that you are running is all that matters.
8. I count different things, like chicken wing bones (yes I said that), socks or shoes on the side of the road, etc. It becomes very comical.
9. I very cold Gatorade and it has to be lemon lime. Even better if it’s somewhat frozen.
10. When I first started running, I only ran at one pace. I had no idea what speedwork, fartleks, Yasso’s were. Now I try and incorporate tempo runs and Yasso’s into each week. I also discovered that good running shoes that fit are a great investment along with a foam roller.

1. Definitely pancakes with maple syrup, eggs and avocado on the side. Can’t get enough of these foods, and they’re always so satisfying :)

2. Haha!! Probably 6 donuts. If they are glazed/sugared, the quick energy would probably be helpful!! ;)

3. Hmmm…probably Dick’s Sporting Goods! They have literally everything :). I’d buy a new pair of shoes, some running headbands, shirts, and tops!

4. WINDY!!! Bahhh to the wind. No thank you. And I’d opt to run on a treadmill.

5. Katie Ledecky – Not a runner, but I have mad respect for her, her dedication to her sport, and all that she has accomplished.

6. My first half-marathion (in March 2013!). There is nothing like the feeling of crossing that finish line for the very first time.

7. Be PATIENT and KIND to yourself, and give yourself grace. YOU CAN DO IT!

8. I tell myself stories or replay my favorite Friends episodes to keep myself entertained, haha.

9. ICE CREAM!

10. I’m actually just coming off about a 2-year break from running. I needed to heal my body after lots of stress and overexertion. I’ve been super nervous and cautious getting back into running, but I’ve learned that I truly love running because I LOVE it, not because it burns X calories. I’ve missed it so much. I’ve got a long way to go to get back to where I was, but I’m really excited for the challenge :).

This was fun! THANKS! xo

This contest is a great idea!!
1. Some kind of burrito salad bowl for sure. I could eat those all of the time!! Sadly, we don’t have a Chopotle here but we do have Xaco Taco which is the same idea and fantastic!

2. I think I’d have to go with the donuts….they’re simple carbs after all right??? ?

3. Ooooh, this is a tough one. I think I’d buy tanks and shorts and definitely socks! My husband just bought me some trail runners for Mother’s Day so we can hit some trails with the kids. More clothes would mean I’d have enough for run days and family hike days!

4. Honestly, there’s not much that would stop me from going outside to run. Lightening for sure and if there was a blizzard. I don’t love the treadmill so I’d probably jump on my spin bike if I couldn’t go outside.

5. Does running with you count?? I think it would be fun to go for a run with you even though you’re much faster than me ?

6. I really enjoyed the last half marathon I did in Cincinnati last month. My husband and sister-in-law ran as well and even though we all normally race st different paces, we decided to stick together and just enjoy the scenery and each other. It was awesome! No watches and we even held hands across the finish line!

7. I think my advice would be to find a good running group. The encouragement and knowledge you can gain from others is priceless.

8. I can’t think of anything weird….

9. Definitely going out for a burger or something like that!

10. I think the biggest change for me has been mentally. I used to kind of freak out if I missed a run but I think I’m much better now at accepting that life happens. I’m not going to lose my fitness level because of one or two workouts and sometimes my body just needs a rest.

That was fun, thanks! ?

1. Chocolate chip pancakes with a side of ham (need to replenish that salt;)
2. I’d definitely rather eat 6 donuts. I ate 5 munchkins during the NYC Marathon last year and it was best decision I ever made…gave me so much more energy!!!
3. Brooks Ravenna. I need desperately need a new pair!
4. If it is over 20mph winds, I will not run outside. I don’t do well with wind because I’m literally scared I’ll get blown away. Lucky for me, I love the treadmill, so I’m more than happy to take the run inside :)
5. Michael Phelps!! or Bradley Cooper…I would just stare at him the whole time so it’d really make the miles fly by.
6. 2016 Twin Cities Marathon. 40-55 degrees for most of the race, partly cloudy, ran by all of my old stomping ground, ran it with my dad, and never hit the wall (didn’t even think that was possible)…it was literally perfection.
7. Don’t compare yourself to anyone else. It’s too easy to get sucked into the comparison trap, especially with social media (**guilty**). Instead, focus on the small accomplishments and be grateful for each opportunity to run!

6. Boston 2017!

9. Totally depends on the day, but I love chocolate milk after a hard race/run.
10. I am SO much better about recovery and fueling my body correctly now. Has made a world of difference!

1. If you could have one meal that was in your kitchen and waiting for you to eat each day after your run, what would it be (for this meal we are pretending that anything/everything is fair game… it’s all healthy, nutritious and will help your recovery so say whatever you think would be the yummiest)?!?

Pasta with meat sauce, giant meatballs & chocolate mousse cake with mint chocolate chip ice cream. Ah I’m hungry now!

1. I love mondo salads after hot runs because they help to cool me down, oh and like a million apples.
2. Donuts!
3. I NEEED new capris. They are my running bottom of choice and most of mine are starting to get funkyyyy. Probably just black because they match everything! I also need to buy body glide so I would buy that.
4. Dark outside!! I run on the treadmill during the week because I work out at 430am. I am not comfortable frolicking around at that hour. Weekends I will always do outdoors unless its icy, in that case I’d probably just hit the gym.

10. I’ve torn/had ACL reconstruction twice on my right knee (2013/2015) so now I stare at the ground a lot more when I run, which is a total bummer. If it is a smoother side walk I’ll alternate with the ground and looking up. When I start to get tired though my eyes are glued to the ground to make sure I don’t trip!

5. Probably Bryce Harper wearing baseball pants. A little eye candy for the run never hurts
6. NYC marathon last year. It was my first major and I loved every second of it. I had just had a extremely discouraging ST. George marathon. So I told myself I was just going to run. No cares about a PR, and just take the entire experience in. It was the best 26.2 miles I have ever run.

10. When I first started running and people found out I ran I always felt the need to tell them I wasn’t fast, as if that negated the fact that I worked hard. Now I’m not afraid to admit I have goals and I’m proud of every mile I run, regardless of speed.

A smoothie from Jamba Juice (why are smoothies so much better when they’re not homemade…?)

2. Would you rather have to eat 6 donuts or a large burrito in the middle of your next long run?
Donuts. No question.

3. If I handed you a $100 gift card to a running website (that has EVERYTHING running related)… WHAT WOULD YOU SPEND THE $100 on (details are appreciated)?
Fancy socks (Why are nice socks as much as a tank top???) and fancy underwear. I recently started wearing the knixwear athletic underwear on my runs and it has been life changing.

4. Fill in the blank: If it is ________________ outside, I will not run outside. Would you then either choose to run on the treadmill or not at all?
Torrential downpour. I will do mist, light rain, rain on and off, but if it is raining cats and dogs it is onto the treadmill for me.

5. If you could go on a run with any famous person or famous athlete… WHO would it be?
I would love to go for a run with Des Linden.

6. If you could go back in time and choose any race that you have done in the past and have that same experience all over again, which one would it be?
My first half-marathon. The weather, conditions, everything was perfect and I was just enjoying the run. I was also generally just super proud of myself for finishing and hadn’t placed any other goals/pressures on myself for that race, so I felt great all throughout and at the end!

7. If your best friend decided to become a runner today and you could give her one piece of advice, WHAT WOULD THAT BE?!
Body glide is your best friend and do not be embarrassed to run into a gas station/grocery store all sweaty during a run for the bathroom or a cool mid-run drink.

Ice cream. Straight to Dairy Queen please!

10. What has been the biggest change in your running from when you very first started until now?
My mental game is so much stronger! I’ve definitely learned that running is 90% mental strength. Before I would stop when the going felt tough, and now I try and push through and stay focused on my goal for that day’s run and 9/10 when I stick through it, I am happier, healthier and stronger!

1. A big juicy cheeseburger with all the fixing, sweet potato fries AND regular ones, a giant bowl of strawberries, nectarines, grapes and blueberries, and banana custard from Sonic. (Ps if you haven’t tried their custard yet – DO IT!)

2. I’m going to plead with you that I don’t have to do either – I eat gluten free and I think I might explode and feel very, very badly if I had to eat either of those things! (Unless we’re talking gluten free..and then I’d have to go with..uh..donuts? Idk..all of it kind of makes me want to throw up haha)

3. I’ve been hearing SO much about On running shoes, so I’d definitely use it on their website! They have a pair of burgundy and red shoes that I’m totally crushing on!

4. If it’s icy or lightning, I usually don’t run outside. Or hail. Everything else is usually fair game. I’d rather run on the dreadmill – but I wouldn’t love it haha

5. Famous runner: definitely Meb! Famous person: oh man, probably the Rock :)

6. I’d totally love to do my second marathon over again! I’ve never felt stronger or happier during a race.

7. To definitely listen to what her body is saying and to give yourself so much grace at the beginning! You aren’t going to be like anyone else, so why start off thinking that way?

8. I talk to myself. A lot. Stuff like “Come on! You can do this hill!” Ha :)

9. Favorite food after running/racing: cheeseburgers! And I know it’s bad, but after races I like having a Coke.

1. Costa Vida Chicken Salad…but let’s be honest, I just always want that.

4. If it is horrible air quality outside, I will not run outside. I would choose treadmill for sure. Better than nothing and perfect for speed work.

5. Again this may be cheating, relative to what you consider famous, but there are many local runners (like you) I would love to go with to see how they fit it in to their every day lives, how they fit in the cost of gear/races/etc., etc.

6. I’ve actually only done 2 (more than 5k)- the Ogden half this and last year and I would repeat both (sorry I’m cheating choosing two ha). They have just been so dang fun and uplifting!

7. Listen to your body

8. I push myself hard every time…like I can’t breathe comfortably. Either I’m a wimp and that’s just what running feels like always, or it is somewhat abnormal and I just can’t not do it because then I feel like I’m not pushing hard enough. Is this hypocritical regarding my previous answer?

9. I don’t have one for just after because let’s be honest. I have no self control ever. Whoops!

10. My pace/time. I used to only be able to run 1.5 miles TOPS (after I ran consistently for months), and I finally can run half marathons!

I would either chose the Brooks Launch or treat myself to a new way to listen to music while running ( I lost my little ancient ipod shuffle during a relay race last year :( and haven’t gotten anything to replace it yet).
4. Fill in the blank: If it is over 85-90 degrees and sunny outside, I will not run outside. I would chose to run on the treadmill or I would get up at 4am before work and the sun come out.
5. Does running with you count? If that’s an option, I think that would make my week!! That or assuming I could move my legs faster than a 6:45 mile, I would love to run with Meb.
6. I would run the Nashville Rock and Roll Marathon again!
7. Listen to your body!!!
8. I don’t usually listen to music, but I love to listen to books on tape if I am training for anything over 15-20 miles. People think I am incredibly strange.
9. I crave a toasted bagel with cream cheese or eggs, sweet potato, avocado and multi-grain toast, with an almond milk chocolate milk! (strangely specific)
10. My times have improved drastically since I started running. I have dropped an hour and fifteen minutes off of my marathon time and over a half hour off of my half marathon time. I have also made most of my friends through running. I don’t know where I would be if I didn’t have running as such a big part of my social life and stress relief.

Hi Janae!!!
This is still my favorite Blog to read….love you and your family. (you really need to come down to Houston and do a race, hint hint :)!!)
1. This is such a hard question…..I LOVE mashed potatoes and gravy (like we have at Christmas or Thanksgiving), so I am thinking that….
2. Oh my gosh this is such a hard question – I wouldn’t want to eat either, but if I had to probably the burrito because I think my stomach could handle it better.
3. Running shoes – I would probably look to get a new pair of Asics (the ones that run $130 or something like that) – I always dismiss the higher priced shoes because I just cannot see spending that much on shoes that are going to wear out in 6 months, no matter how badly I want them. I always know there is something else I need to save that money for. I would also be looking at the loudest and brightest shoes there were – the brighter the better!
4. COLD/ I will choose the treadmill instead of running outside if it is SUPER cold. When I say cold I don’t mean 50’s or anything. Afterall I live in Houston so I can handle 50’s but I have raynauds disease so I get cold easily. I do NOT like running in the cold at all (however I did run a 30K in training for my full marathon and it was 32 degrees – my hands were numb the entire time!)
5. I would want to run with MEB!!!
6. I would go back and run my 30K race – even though it was freezing, I felt so comfortable the entire time (my legs felt great) and I finished strong and with a great time………..However, I would love to go back and experience the emotion from my full marathon (after getting diagnosed with Lupus when I was originally training and then having to defer to the next year and retrain again – 2 yrs of training total, it was pretty emotional)!
7. Build up slowly so that you can gain the endurance to run a good distance and work on pacing.
8. I don’t listen to music which a lot of people think is weird……also I say hi to the ducks in our lakes :)
9. When I was doing more half marathons I would always want to go out with my family afterwards to a restaurant called Fuddruckers and have a bison burger with avocado on it and a shake!
10. My endurance, being able to just keep on running!!!

1.BANANA I know it isn’t a meal but for some reason after and before I always want a banana
2. Burrito for sure!
3. Probably fleet feet, that’s where I usually get my running shoes anyways. And you can’t have too many pairs of running shoes
4. Pouring rain, sprinkling is fine but not if it’s pouring out. And probably the snow but I live in cali so no snow running here. I prefer to run outside but I don’t mind the treadmill
5. Do you count as some famous? Because I would love to run with you!! Except my running pace is probablh your walking pace
6. I would do my first half marathon it was fun and with good people
7. If you put in the effort you will always improve. When I first started running my mileage time always upset me but it’s slowly getting better
8. I have caught myself doing air drums to the beat of the music I was listening to. lol I’m sure I got some odd looks from people
9. Iced latte
10. My mental game, knowing I don’t have to stop when I feel tired. It’s truly mind over matter sometimes

Love surveys!

1. I always crave a huge egg meal after a long run, usually a big breakfast burrito with all the good stuff – potatoes, cheese, guac, salsa, black beans!

2. Gross! Neither :) My stomach doesn’t handle food during runs very well.

3. New shoes duh!

4. If it’s snowing/icy I won’t run (although I live in CA now thank goodness!) I would go on the treadmill for sure.

5. Chris Pratt because he is hilarious and I have a crush on him.

6. I raced Mountains 2 Beach in Ventura last weekend and I BQed by 2.5 minutes!! Sooo definitely that one :)

7. Don’t give up! It’s always hard to restart after a long break but it’s always worth it.

8. I almost always run with my Double Bob with my two kids so maybe that’s weird?

9. Once again, I always crave Mexican haha so a big burrito or tacos or Cafe Rio Salad! I don’t really crave sugar after a run since I’ve been consuming gels and electrolytes.

10. RESEARCH. I knew nothing about running when I first started. Now I’ve been fitted for the right shoes, I’ve read a million running books and blogs, I’ve seen doctors and PTs, read nutrition books, listened to podcasts, and I have finally perfected my running and got my BQ!!

These are such good questions!

1. All I want after a run is seltzer water – something about the bubbles! But in the summer, ice cream would be nice :)
2. totally 6 donuts
3. Running Warehouse – I am in desperate need of new tanks. I love New Balance tanks and a pair of Nike Pro spandex shorts wouldn’t hurt either!
4. Raining/Snowing. Do I sound like a wimp haha But it has to be pouring out and snowing really hard and to the dreadmill I’d go.
5. Kara Goucher 100%
6. my first half marathon. I’d run a marathon and a few 15k’s before but after my second son was born I decided that the half would be my race. I was 5 months postpartum and had no idea what to expect but I had fun and I finished strong – I remember being soooo proud of myself.
7. Keep the easy days easy and the hard days hard.
8. I do math haha If I’m trying to hit an average pace then I do math based on the paces I’m hitting or I try and do averages in my head. Totally weird and yes I run with a Garmin that does the math for me but it keeps me entertained :P
9. Beer and ice cream
10. I started using an online coach and started doing speed work and tempo runs and actually taking my easy days easy. I’ve gotten considerably faster and now have total confidence that I can keep getting faster too.

Thanks so much :)

1. Breakfast – pancakes, fruit, sausage, eggs, muffins… all of it!
2. Would you rather have to eat 6 donuts or a large burrito in the middle of your next long run? 6 donuts becuase donuts make you fast – not really but I like to pretend :)
3. Amazon because I really want some Night Runner Shoe Lights, could use a new handheld water bottle, and of course find something cute to wear with them!
4. If it is lightening, I will not run outside. I’ll either postpone the run or hit the treadmill – depends on how desperately I need the miles.
5. I don’t know who it would be. Maybe a comedian because it would be funny.
6. Dam to Dam half marathon last year. I’d try harder.
7. Just go with the flow and keep going!
8. The only kinda weird thing I do is make sure to end my run exactly on a mile – no .01.
9. My usual reward is a shower, coffee, and food.
10. The biggest change is how much I have begun to enjoy it. I started running in the beginning to lose weight. That is still helpful, but it has become my alone time/therapy/stress relief time. This is especially true when I run with my running friends. We have the best conversations while we are on our long runs!

Reply

1. A Grilled Chicken Caesar Salad
2. 6 Donuts….or more – I am still craving a good donut since finishing a marathon on May 20th! I must make time for this!
3. Nike Flex 3″ Running Shorts, Nike Pro Classic Sports Bra, and some UA No Show socks – totally gearing up for summer running in the midwest!
4. Lightening and negative temps are about the only thing that will hold me back from going outside.
5. Reggie Miller!! Being from Indiana and a huge Pacers fan – he would be a blast to hang out with for some miles.
6. Alaska Mayor’s Half Marathon – the scenery was amazing! I got to run past bear and moose :)
7. My best friend is already a runner, so really there isn’t much advice to give – she has her own groove.
8. Talking to my dog. Lucky and I have great conversation as we are getting in the miles.
9. ICE CREAM!!
10. I have learned to relax my body. Starting out I would be so tense and nervous that I never really enjoyed running.

Reply

1. Green Juice, cheese eggs and a brownie :)
2, Donuts for sure, couldn’t hold down a burrito.
3. Sneakers New Balance 1080’s, took me five years of running to find my sneaker.
4. Raining and I’d be on the mill, which I try not to call the dreadmill.
5. I’d like to run with Will Ferrell, the miles would probably just fly by with laughter.
6. I’d love to run my very first half marathon the Mini Marathon in Myrtle Beach. It was my first long distance race and I loved it.
7. I’d tell my friend to run for fun not time or distance. There’s this short window of time to be a newbie so don’t rush it. There’s plenty of time to chase PR’s.
9. Cheeseburger, fries and a coke every time.
10. In my form I’m more aware of not running tense especially in my shoulders when I’m getting tired.

Reply

1. Ice cream. OMG ice cream. Specifically chocolate chocolate peanut butter.
2. Burritos, bc donuts make me burp and I’d never finish my run.
3. New sports bras
4. Over 80 degrees outside. I’d rather run in the cold or on the treadmill any day.
10. I have two boys now and I run a lot less than I used to, thanks to time constraints, but I appreciate the time I have in my shoe more.

Reply

1. Lots of fruit and sweet potato casserole
2. 6 donuts
3. Cute shirts or tanks
4. Raining/snowing/icy/storming, not at all
5. JT and I would have him sing to me the whole time
6. Not a racer
7. Run with friends
8. When I run around a track or around a block or something in a neighborhood I count the laps on my fingers by putting one finger at a time over my thumb. Not sure that makes sense but hard to explain.
9. I’ve been known to have a frozen margarita
10. No big changes

Love this!! So fun! And loved listening to your podcast on my run today. It inspired me to turn my 4 miles run into sprints since I’m trying to get faster and shave time off my half.

1. I run super early in the morning so I would LOVE to have breakfast tacos waiting for me after my run with extra guac!!
2. Oh definitely the donuts! Who doesn’t love donuts?
3. This one is tough. Either Lululemon and I would get more shorts because I love their shorts for running. OR Brooks because I’m obsessed with my Ravenna’s and would love to try other shoes out.
4. Below Freezing!! I will run on my treadmill. I live in New England and it’s dark when I wake up and we had a freezing winter so I really learned to embrace my treadmill this winter. Also works because I have two very little ones.
5. Kara Goucher – she just seems like she would be so amazing and so fun
6. SoNo Half Marathon in CT!! It was my first and I was so terrified and nervous that I didn’t let myself just enjoy the experience.
7. Relax. Enjoy it. It’s a process and you will get better. Running scared me for YEARS!! I’ve also been a biker, not a runner. My husband runs and I wanted to do that with him so I started very very small. One year after I did my first real run with him, I’ve now done 3 half marathons and am planning my next one. I wish I hadn’t let it overwhelm me in the beginning and that I hadn’t let the fear keep me from starting.
8. Hmmm… I don’t know what I do that is weird (or what I do that isn’t weird?). I like to stop and take pictures of the beach when I run along the beach area of town. Sometimes I stop and just sit in the sand for a little bit.
9. Bagels. Love bagels.
10. I’m no longer scared of running. I know that sounds silly but after having heart and lung issues, I always found running to be impossible for me so now that I actually run a couple times a week kind of amazes me.

Reply

1) waffles with fruit
2) ugh… 6 donuts I guess:)
3) compression socks and some good/comfortable sunglasses
4) If it freezing cold or really windy I run on the treadmill. I actually love the treadmill.
5) Ellen Degeneres
6) Avenue of the Giants Half Marathon in Humbolt, Ca. Beautiful course in the Redwoods and it feels downhill both directions! Doing it next year again for sure.
7) Start slow on both pace and distance and give it time. Don’t expect to love it right away.
9) Coffee because my stomach can’t handle it before a run
10) The biggest change is that I continue to love running even more as time passes.

Reply

1. Eggs with kale and parmesan cheese with a sprouted english muffin on the side with butter and my dad’s homemade marmalade.
2. 6 donuts.
3. Two sports bras and a tank top. If I had more money I might buy another sports bra (I am in need of new ones!)
4. Fill If it is really hot (and it’s the afternoon) outside, I will not run outside. If I had a treadmill I’d run on it or go to an exercise class.

5. If you could go on a run with any famous person I’d love to run with Lauren Fleshman.
6. The Mattapoisett 4th of July 5 mile.

7. Have fun! Don’t worry if it’s not fun or hard at first (it was really hard for me when I started running again and I wanted to give up). Don’t worry about your pace or how slow/fast you are. Just keep going, smile, and have fun!
8. I’m not sure I do anything weird- I’ve had to stop and use the bathroom but I think we all have.
9. Besides my breakfast listed above, I love chocolate banana smoothie topped with cereal! Yum! I alternate those breakfasts.
10. How it is not related to weight loss and just pure joy. I’ve also really enjoyed pushing myself and seeing if I can go faster and surprised at how I can.

1. Lately I’ve been obsessed with a lasagna made with polenta instead of pasta and lots of spinach and butternut squash. It’s a lot of work/steps so it would be great to have it waiting for me when I get home everyday.
2. Burrito? I mean neither, but I couldn’t stomach 6 donuts ever, forget about during a run.
3. Don’t make me pick! I’m really obsessed with Brooks greenlight capris lately, but we’ve mostly transitioned into shorts weather here. I need a new go-to pair of shorts, but I feel like I’ve tried everything and haven’t found my perfect pair. Don’t worry though, I’d figure something out.
4. There is NO answer to this question. I live in Boston, MA and run outside everyday no matter the weather is like.
5. Joan Benoit
6. My first Boston Marathon – no question
7. Enjoy the ride. After 19 marathons I have learned that no people/experiences are alike and there’s no universal advice. Every marathon I’ve done has been different. So just enjoy.
9. Chocolate milk
10. I’m driven and dedicated and obsessed. I clearly remember the day I said “I will never run a marathon”. Currently training for #20. I also remember a time I thought I could never run every day and now I take about 1 day off every 4-6 weeks and HATE that day.

Thank You for writing such a beautifully inspiring and joyful blog! I love reading all of your posts :)

Now that it’s getting to be summertime, a huge smoothie! Raspberries, blueberries, mango, kiwi, coconut, almond milk… so refreshing. It’s got to have some granola on top too :)
Bring on the donuts!!
Oooh that’s a tough question!! I’d probably have to find one of those waistband pouch-things to run with – I’ve gone on way too many runs with my keys/ID/money (for donut runs, of course) crammed in the side of my shorts or sports bra. And longer training runs don’t make it more comfortable! I’d use the rest to get some fun running shorts (aka not black), or maybe try a new gadget (taking suggestions)!
“If it is NEGATIVE 40 DEGREES WITH A WIND CHILL I will not run outside. But, I will consider a treadmill run if it involves a call to catch up with a good friend.
I would love to go on a run with Grete Waitz (if she were here) – I am Norwegian and grew up hearing about her; and I got to meet her once at the Boston Marathon (FANGIRL!!!)
4th of July 4.25mi, 2004. It was all glorious :)
You don’t have to be great to start, but you have to start to be great. Believe in the run :)
Yikes… I imagine the lives the dogs that walk past must have :)
Reward: relaxation, smiles, a banana, and a DONUT!
Biggest change: my mindset and self-image. I have a much better and healthier focus on celebrating what can be done and working on what I can work on :) And new friends through running that are understanding and motivating and overall WONDERFUL!

1. If you could have one meal that was in your kitchen and waiting for you to eat each day after your run, what would it be (for this meal we are pretending that anything/everything is fair game… it’s all healthy, nutritious and will help your recovery so say whatever you think would be the yummiest)?!?

Homemade Navajo tacos and my dads lemon cream pie (plus points if I could eat the entire thing)

2. Would you rather have to eat 6 donuts or a large burrito in the middle of your next long run?

6 donuts, no question ?

3. If I handed you a $100 gift card to a running website (that has EVERYTHING running related)…  WHAT WOULD YOU SPEND THE $100 on (details are appreciated)

I have dreams about this happening.
shorts (cause summer running requires these), clif shot bloks, a few pairs of Feetures! socks (cause new socks)
down payment on new shoes, sports bras, KT tape (got to keep the knees and feet and ankles stable)

4. Fill in the blank:  If it is ________________ outside, I will not run outside.  Would you then either choose to run on the treadmill or not at all?

HOT! Treadmill or the indoor track at Provo Rec Center

5. If you could go on a run with any famous person or famous athlete… WHO would it be?

Dean Karnazes or Katherine Switzer

6. If you could go back in time and choose any race that you have done in the past and have that same experience all over again, which one would it be?

Drop 13 down Big Cottonwood Canyon. Fast, downhill, race and the overcast weather was perfect for running!

7. If your best friend decided to become a runner today and you could give her one piece of advice, WHAT WOULD THAT BE?!

try your very best to go poo before a race.

8. What is one weird/different thing you do during your runs?

I tend to have to spit a lot when I run

9. What is your usual race/hard run reward afterwards? A food/drink/other?

Post race meal is always a cheeseburger, fries, and giant drink from Sodalicious

10. What has been the biggest change in your running from when you very first started until now?

My love for running has increased 100 fold.
I also really appreciate my a lot more body for being able to run such far distances

What a fun contest!! Thanks, Janae!
1. A giant turkey and provolone sub sandwich.
2. Those both sound like a disaster waiting to happen, but I’d take the donuts.
3. Well, I’m pregnant and starting to get big, so I’d spend it on some new running bras and shorts that actually fit!
4. Icy. Simply because it’s not safe. I hate wind, but will suffer through. I’d hop on the treadmill or do a workout video.
5. Desi!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
6. Probably my 100 miler. It was HELL for many miles, but that feeling at the end… unimaginable bliss.
7. If something hurts (and isn’t sore… like really hurts) take a day off. Still hurt? Take another.
8. This is TMI, but even if I go to the bathroom (#2) before a run (which is necessary), I always ALWAYS have to go again after.
9. I don’t think of food as a reward… I don’t think I need to work hard in order to be able to eat, even if that food is a “treat.” Life is short, eat treats. Honestly, finding time to run in the first place is usually reward enough for me.
10. I spend a lot more time running at a comfortable pace. Not every run is a race!

1. A smoothie
2. A large burrito. If I threw up a donut I don’t know that I would be able to eat them again and that would just be sad.
3. New Brooks running shoes
4. Below zero outside. I would choose to run on the treadmill.
5. Reese Witherspoon
6. The Governor’s Cup in Helena, MT

8. BLT after a race. Donut/coffee cake and coffee after a hard run.

1. A toasted everything bagel from Western Bagel (in so cal) with jalapeno cream cheese OR steel cut oats (Coaches Oats) with a perfectly ripe (almost over ripe) banana with almond butter, a pinch of cinnamon, a little milk and topped with Ancient Grains granola (from Costco).
2. I’d rather eat six large donuts in the middle of a long run. Or now.
3. I’d buy a new sports bra (or two or three)! My current favorite is Moving Comfort’s Rebound Racer but I’ve been wanting to try an Oiselle bra since the Rebound Racer isn’t my favorite in terms of “style”.
4. If WIND is outside I will choose the treadmill. I’ve run 17 miles in 90 degrees and I’m okay with rain. Wind is the worst. (to be fair I live in so cal and don’t have too harsh of weather).
5. Do bloggers count? I’d love to run with you (if I could keep up) and Kelly Roberts from Run Selfie Repeat.
6. I would go back to a marathon relay I did in Irvine, CA with my husband. He ran the first and last leg (about 5 miles each) and I ran the middle 3 consecutively. I won entrance into this race a couple days before and used it as training for St. George. I had no expectations at all. After my husband finished his leg and passed me the baton he shouted, “We’re in first!!” I didn’t really understand what that meant until I realized that the cyclist riding next to me was there because we were the first marathon relay team. It was the best running experience I ever had to have my very own cyclist and in the end to win the marathon relay overall. :) We were the only team of two while every other team had 4-5 runners splitting the distance. It was awesome!
7. Follow lots of running bloggers and instagrammers. It’s so motivating to read about everyone’s runs.
8. I used to do a weird thing with my arms before someone pointed it out and now they’re pretty normal. Basically I’d just drop them down straight every few breaths to relax my shoulders.
9. After really hard runs, I always want a Glacier Freeze Gatorade. I’ve also gotten into the habit of getting a venti iced green tea with no water or sweetener from Starbucks after my runs (this happened when I was cutting out sugar and couldn’t have Gatorade or nuun).
10. When I first started running, I wore a tank from target and cotton pants (on a WARM day). I also didn’t wear a headband. Now I wear sweat wicking gear always, almost always shorts unless it’s FREEZING, and I always wear a headband or a hat to keep my hair out of my face.

1. Ok, it sounds ridiculous to say a dang SALAD but this is not just any salad. It’s not even that healthy of a salad, lol. It’s the Oriental Salad with Macadamia Nut Chicken from Kona Grill (a chain! I’m slightly ashamed.) It’s chinese cabbage based with crunchy ramen noodle pieces and sliced almonds and a light soy-sweet dressing and the chicken…ohhhh it’s so good. I could eat it everyday and I always want it after I run!
2. I would rather eat the donuts. For sure. I feel like I could will my body to turn the sugar into fuel and maybe keep them down but the burrito…no way.
3. I would buy a new pair of compression leggings! I tripped and fell on Mile 17 of my last marathon (it was…not fun) and ripped a big hole in the knee. The ones I buy are freakin $75 so I’d have $25 left to spend…I guess I’d put it toward my next race entry fee. :)
4. If it is hailing golf ball-sized hail outside, I will not run. Pebble-sized, however? Done it before and it wasn’t THAT bad! I would probably run on the treadmill if my run was going to be a short one. If it was going to be a long run…nope. I’ll save it for the next day.
5. I would want to run with Beyonce. I might be a little cocky here, but I think that maybe MAYBE that would be the one thing I could do better than her?? It would feel slightly satisfying to say that I beat Beyonce at something! If nothing else, she could sing power anthems to encourage us on the tough stretches.
6. I would re-experience my first marathon (the Dallas BMW marathon)! My friends surprised me at the finish line in homemade t-shirts and I cried dry tears. It was the hardest physical thing I had ever done at that point and I felt SO proud of myself. The marathon itself was also a great one!
7. I would tell her something that I first read on YOUR blog several years ago! “You can do hard things.” I repeat this like a mantra when I want to give up on a run, and I’ve had my friends encourage me with it during marathons to remind me. I would love to do the same for a friend.
8. I smile – but not like a cute, pretty, joyful smile. An insane, crazy-person smile. All teeth. I read somewhere that smiling while in pain tricks your brain into not feeling as tired or whatever. It works for me, and the longer the run, the crazier the smile at the end. My marathon finishing photos are pieces of work.
9. My usual “reward” is chips + salsa/guac, tacos, + a margarita. Something about Tex-Mex just sounds amazing after all that running.
10. The biggest change has been my confidence level. I used to set goals for myself that I thought were “realistic” but were actually just limiting and doubting my ability to “do hard things”. Once I stopped telling myself “well you’ve only ever run single digits so you probably couldn’t do a double digit run” my running world opened up and I began to run those dang double digit runs on the regular. All because I decided to stop doubting myself and just go out and do it!

6 donuts- I’ve developed a good sugar tolerance ;)

3. If I handed you a $100 gift card to a running website (that has EVERYTHING running related)… WHAT WOULD YOU SPEND THE $100 on (details are appreciated)?

Oh yes! Solid crop leggings, and bright sports bras!!

Do bloggers count? ;)

6. If you could go back in time and choose any race that you have done in the past and have that same experience all over again, which one would it be?

Medtronic twin cities marathon!! My first and so so amazing.

7. If your best friend decided to become a runner today and you could give her one piece of advice, WHAT WOULD THAT BE?!

Run as many places as you can.

8. What is one weird/different thing you do during your runs?

Mittens/earwarmer and shorts are pretty common attire.

9. What is your usual race/hard run reward afterwards? A food/drink/other?

Social eating and drinking hahah

10. What has been the biggest change in your running from when you very first started until now?

I run because I want to (not because I “have” to).

1. Pizza. :) I love pizza SO much!
2.Definitely a burrito if I have to pick between the two. Although neither sound that great mid run! ;)
3. Socks and capri leggings
4. Very cold and windy. I would choose to run on the treadmill, but probably for not as long as my normal run.
5. Jimmy Fallon…he would keep me laughing during my run!
6. The first 5k I did post op. What an incredible feeling to be running again after surgery!
7. Be patient, consistent and don’t compare yourself to other people. Also, on those days you really don’t want to go, just go put on your running shoes anyway..:)
8. Talk to myself/make up running lyrics to songs.
9. I don’t really have one.
10. My mindset. Starting out I never thought I would like it or get very far. I also was too hard on myself in what I was doing and compared myself to others too much. (who had been running for years!) I’ve learned to make my own goals and be proud of myself when I meet those, instead of thinking I can’t or comparing myself to other people and what they are doing.

Such a cool idea!

1. If it’s after a long run or a hard workout, I’m a huge fan of Kodiak Cakes pancakes! I love pancakes and all breakfast foods in general, but love that I’m also getting some protein as well. The mixture of protein and carbs is what calls to me when I’m ready to quit and helps me to pull through even the most difficult of runs.

2. A large burrito for sure! I’m not a huge donut fan and would definitely rather have something savory.

3. I’d love a new pair of running shorts that were shorter but still open on the legs, like the Oiselle flyout shorts. I have bigger quads, and this leads to tight shorts at times. It would also be nice to get some better running tanks vs just whatever I can find on sale at the store!

4. Raining cats and dogs. While I had to do one of my 20 mile marathon training runs in the rain this spring, I definitely didn’t enjoy it. I chose to do my 11 miler on the dreadmill because I’d rather be bored out of my mind than skip a training run!

5. Definitely Shalane Flanagan! She’s my inspiration on both the running front as well as in the kitchen. I’d love to chat with her about how her cooking has helped fueled her performances.

6. Running the Boston Marathon in 2016. I ended up getting injured a month before and so I gave up my desire to race the course. I sat back, enjoyed the crowds, took pictures with my family and friends who were there, and still managed to BQ again!

7. Keep at it. It will not be easy at first, and there will be days where it’ll never be easy, but you’ll get so much out of it. Enjoy the process, relish those easy runs, and treasure the quiet time where you can reflect on your day.

8. I’ve found myself listening to the Hamilton soundtrack during my long, easy runs. Now, I’ll often hear bits and pieces of songs in my head at those same spots even if not currently listening to music.

9. Breakfast foods and chocolate milk. I’m a firm believer that chocolate milk is the cure for tired muscles. And there’s just something about a warm stack of pancakes matched with some scrambled eggs. Cures me every time!

10. I am much faster now than before as a result of learning to push through the pain. I always used to slow down whenever it felt hard, but I’ve learned that I’m mentally stronger than that now. I’ve learned that pushing hard leads to much more rewarding results, and has helped me to set my current PRs!

1. PIZZA! Thin crust, with all of the veggies on it!
2. 6 donuts for sure.
3. I would love to get myself a backup pair of Hoka One One Clifton’s (with a $100, probably a sale price pair, because I am a cheepo anyway and can’t stand buying full price anything!). I’m under contract to buy my first house (ON MY OWN AHHHH!!!), and want to have a back up pair in the wings so I don’t feel like I’m overspending a few months from now when my current pair wear out!
4. If it is above 90 degrees outside, I will not run outside. Would you then either choose to run on the treadmill or not at all? … hmmm… maybe not run at all right now, because my old trusty treadmill died on me in March!
5. Will Ferrell! He would crack me up.
6. My very first Half marathon in 2010! Or maybe my first sprint tri! Both were days where I felt like I could achieve anything.
7. My best friend IS a runner! And right now, she’s fighting some post-baby body issues, so I would tell her she is not a number on the scale, and she is strong and beautiful. And I do tell her these things, but too often is never enough!
8. Hmmm… Sometimes I walk up hills, even though I know I could run them. I guess that’s just me giving myself a mental break.
9. So my stomach doesn’t like too much fiber ever, so a HUGE salad with all kinds of dangerous things like peppers and cukes and olives and also some friend calamari on the side.
10. I was scared to race at first, because I thought I’d be too slow. I now know there is no such thing!

8. Hmm maybe that I very rarely run with music?
9. Beer!
10. I have just (in the last couple years) started to incorporate track workouts and different runs into my week. I used to just run the miles with no real focus. The changeup is so nice and keeps things so much more interesting!

3. Ahh I really need new shoes, so I’d get a pair of Brooks Ghost!
4. Fill in the blank: If it is ICY outside, I will not run outside (I’m afraid I’ll fall and break something!). I would run on the treadmill or the indoor track.
5. Kara Goucher! She just seems so upbeat and positive; plus of course she’s an amazing athlete!
6. Hmmm maybe the Big 10k in Chicago. It was my first race ever!
7. My best friend already is a runner. :) But as for advice…I’d say to not worry about your pace, just go out and enjoy the run.
8. I don’t think I do anything that is particularly weird/different. I tend to wear shorts in much colder temps than other people…maybe that’s weird?
9. An ice cold beer is good. Or some fruit like watermelon.
10. I think I enjoy it a lot more than I did when I was starting. I also can appreciate a run for more than just the number of calories it burned.

5. I’d run with Dean Karnazes… 50 marathons in 50 days… WHAT?

6. My first Marine Corps Marathon, 2003. I knew so little about how to really train. Picked a guide and followed it exactly as it said. I know more now and would benefit from the knowledge I gained from 15 years of running.

7. Don’t get discouraged and stay the course. Forget the bad runs, bask in the good ones. and REST. REST is essential to getting stronger.

8. Can’t have anything on me.. not hat, no ear buds, no headband and on hot hot days I even have to take off me wedding band!

9. Mickey D’s… just a plain cheeseburger. Oh so goooood!

10. Consistency and distance. I am a full time working mother of 3 and I have finally found the balance of consistent running which has finally allowed for a more to consistently run even longer distances. Did I say consistency too many times?

5. Not sure – I would be too self-conscious because I would be afraid that I run too slow
6. My 1/2 marathon last fall…it felt great and was a PR.

1. A glass of water, a glass of chocolate milk and a big omelette with all kinds of veggies + cheese.

2. Oh gosh. While I love them both, they both sound dreadful in the middle of a run. But I’m gonna go with doughnuts.

3. I NEED a new sports bra. When I was in high school, I thought Walmart sports bras were fine, now that I’m older, I need more support and better fabric. I’m also super picky about my shorts and I strongly believe you can never had too many running shorts. Also Balega socks! They are worth the splurge, but I only have two pairs because I hate spending that much for socks.

4. If it’s POURING DOWN RAIN, then I’m headed to my garage to run on my treadmill. Wet shorts are no run to run in.

5. I would love to go on a run with Jordan Hasay, she seems so run and down to Earth!

6. I would love to experience my first half marathon again. I had no real time expectations and just ran for fun. I had great training and it was the perfect first 13.1 miler.

7. My best friend actually hates running, but I would say enjoy the ride! Running should be fun, not something you feel like you have to do.

8. I always hold my thumbs when I run, so my fist looks weird. I never noticed it until someone took pictures of me a race in high school and I every picture they commented on how I held my hands.

9. Sweets. Probably cookies.

10. I’m faster! Duh. But I appreciate the sport a lot more than I did when I was younger and was forced to run laps in gym class.

1. An egg sandwich with cheese and avocado.

3. I’d get new running sneakers (Brooks Ghost) – not exciting, but they’re expensive so it would be worth it!
4. Ice, and I’d run inside on the treadmill (unless it made sense to take a rest day and it was not going to be icy the next day).

4. If it is a downpour, lightning, blizzard, or extremely windy/cold outside, I will NOT run outside (unless it’s a race…then somehow these limitations go out the window).
5. YOU!
6. Marine Corps Marathon – my first marathon. It was fully of tears both during my race (when both my calves cramped at the same time – and realizing my sub 4:30 goal to beat Oprah was out the window – missed it by 30 seconds) and after (overwhelmed with emotion actually completing it).
7. Umm..she already is one – she makes me run all these races without properly training – and all over the country because she has a goal of running a marathon in all 50 states. But the 1 piece of advice would be DON’T ATTEMPT THE 50 MARATHONS IN 50 STATES!!! She’s made me run in crazy weather because of it….
8. Refuse to go on a route that doesn’t have gas stations or bathrooms along the way (not sure its weird or different)
9. It really depends on my mood – I usually partake in a REALLY good dessert
10. Listening to my body and slowing down on my runs. I used to always run as fast as I could – because I didn’t believe I could run a race at the pace I wanted to if I didn’t do all my training runs that fast. Now I’m all about listening to my body and not pushing myself harder than I need to – else I get injured :)

1.Chocolate Chip and Blueberry Pancakes!

2. 6 donuts (hoping that they fuel me rather than slow me down on the run!)

3. The Boston Marathon Edition Brooks Launch 4s from this year! They would give me the extra motivation to try to qualify and also remind me of home/family (originally from Maine but I live in Colorado now).

4. Below zero and absolutely run on the treadmill! It’s normally always in the negative here (in CO) in early mornings during the month of Dec and/or Jan and I think I would go crazy if I couldn’t run. Plus the satisfaction that I get when my coworkers complain how cold it is and I’ve already gotten in a solid sweat session is pretty great!

5. Kara Goucher- she’s an incredible athlete, who’s down-to-earth and who be able to give me many ‘words of wisdom’ and make me feel empowered at the end of our run!

6. Revel Rockies Marathon 2016- my second marathon and I shaved 30 minutes off my previous marathon PR. I remember looking down at my watch with about 6 miles left to go and couldn’t believe my time! The scenery was fantastic, weather was beautiful, and the feeling as I crossed the finish line was amazing. I finally felt like a real ‘runner’- I called my mom immediately after I got done and I remember her saying that I sounded like I was in shock! The best part is that I can still remember that ‘runners high’ and intense feeling of accomplishment like it was yesterday. Running this same race next weekend and hope to have another big marathon PR!

7. Wake up early to run. It’s the most magical time of day where everything is quiet, the sun is rising, and you feel invincible.

8. During winter runs, I will sometimes wear two pairs of pants & hand warmers in my mittens to keep myself warm. I can also be seen running with my mittens during the late Spring/early Summer here- they’re so cozy and my hands get cold easily!

9. Lately after long runs, it’s been pink lemonade! After a race- it’s almost always a burger then followed up within the next few days with a pedicure to treat my feet!

10. My running confidence! I started running to prove to myself that I could do a half marathon and never considered myself a runner until after many half marathons and even a marathon later. I’m not very fast and not particularly slow, but I was never athletic growing up (picked last for gym class and avoided running at all costs). I now have enough confidence to tell others when my next running race will be and even join a group to run with!

3) Feetures socks, Pro Compression calf sleeves, GU, a nice Brooks visor
4) sleeting; I would rather skip the treadmill and go straight to the Mini Wheats
5) Meb (and/or you :-) )
6) my first half marathon – Dallas (I caught the running bug there)
7) roll every day and find a way to enjoy every run (that’s 2)
8) for all my long runs, I listen to an Audio book (to go slower) until exactly halfway through and then switch to music (to go faster)
9) Frosted Mini Wheats (do you see a pattern here?)
10) since I’ve struggled with hamstring tears, I’m so much more grateful to be able to run. I used to take running for granted.

Hi there!
1. It depends on the run. After a typical morning run – eggs or oatmeal. After a long run – a green smoothie with a sweet potato ….. or a burger. Somehow I rock the dichotomies.
2. 6 donuts, as long as they’re yeast donuts.
3. A reflective vest. Or, no, strike being practical. I’d get one of those pro-rollers with the wheels that hurts so good.
4. Fill in the blank: If it is icy/hailing outside, I will not run outside. Then I’ll definitely hit the treadmill….. I dream about the day when I will own a treadmill.
5. Meb. Or Tina Muir.
6. Circular Logic Marathon, 2017. But really, I like having NEW experiences.
7. Run for joy, run for happiness. Run to process emotions and express anger. Run to work through things. Run to be alone and to pray and to think and to not think. But don’t ever run to beat yourself up, to compare yourself (even to yourself), and to feel not good enough.
8. Sometimes I raise my hands over my head in praise to God when I’m feeling really good.
9. Honestly, I usually just want a shower and a nap.
10. Before, I was challenging myself with running. Then I was compulsive with it. Now (mostly), I’m joyful about it.

1. I would have a veggie omelet and a side of sweet potato hash browns waiting for me after my run. I’d wash it all down with a giant glass of water and some chocolate milk.

2. I’d rather have to eat 6 donuts in the middle of your next long run.

3. If I was given the $100 gift card, I’d probably pick up some new shorts and tank tops for the summer. I especially love shorts that have a lot of pockets for my stuff. I hate when running shorts don’t have pockets. For the running tanks, I like them longer – there’s nothing worse than having to constantly tug down the bottom of your tank because it keeps riding up on you while running.

4. Fill in the blank: If it is super windy outside, I will not run outside. I’d likely run on the treadmill, but I’d be miserable while doing so.

5. I’d love to be able to go on a run with Kara Goucher!

6. I’d go back in time and run the Chicago Marathon again. It was such an amazing and fun experience. I am so glad I committed to the training and did it. It’s something I’ll truly never forget.

7. I’d tell her that you’re stronger than you think you are and that running is more mental than physical.

8. During my runs I am constantly giving myself an internal pep talk to keep going. Sometimes I tell myself – okay, just make it to the next intersection or the next tree, and then when I make it, I focus on something else up ahead to make it to. It sounds so weird but it works for me.

9. My favorite race reward are Justin’s brand dark chocolate peanut butter cups and iced coffee.

10. The biggest change in my running since I started is that I used to almost dread it and now I find that it’s really cathartic and helps reduce my stress and anxiety. When I first started running I never thought I’d enjoy it so much and now it’s like free therapy for me.

6. My 1st half marathon-no expectations is awesome!!
7. My advice would be to not beat yourself up about running.
8. I have to chew gum!
9. Food, definitely food!
10. The biggest change in my running is that I care so much more about my time than I ever did! I wish I could change this, especially since I am slower lol!

Taco salad, tortilla chips and guacamole!

2. Would you rather have to eat 6 donuts or a large burrito in the middle of your next long run?
A burrito would be yummy – but I’d never be able to finish the run if I ate in the middle!!

3. If I handed you a $100 gift card to a running website (that has EVERYTHING running related)… WHAT WOULD YOU SPEND THE $100 on (details are appreciated)?
New running shoes! I just got a new pair – but I’d love a second pair so I can alternate shoes and not wear same shoes all the time!

4. Fill in the blank: If it is ________________ outside, I will not run outside. Would you then either choose to run on the treadmill or not at all?
Pouring rain! I don’t have a treadmill so I just wouldn’t run!

5. If you could go on a run with any famous person or famous athlete… WHO would it be?
Meb – because he’s such an encourager!

6. If you could go back in time and choose any race that you have done in the past and have that same experience all over again, which one would it be?
My very first 5K – because it was such an accomplishment!!

7. If your best friend decided to become a runner today and you could give her one piece of advice, WHAT WOULD THAT BE?!
You don’t have to be fast. You don’t have to go far. Just get out there and move! Consistency is the key!!

8. What is one weird/different thing you do during your runs?
Lately, I’ve been listening to the Up and Vanished podcast!

9. What is your usual race/hard run reward afterwards? A food/drink/other?
Smoothie King!!

10. What has been the biggest change in your running from when you very first started until now?
When I first started (3 summers ago), I barely ran .5 mile without stopping. At that time, my goal was to run a 5K without stopping. Just two days ago (Memorial Day), I ran my first half marathon!!!

2. Would you rather have to eat 6 donuts or a large burrito in the middle of your next long run?
Six donuts but both sound painful!

3. If I handed you a $100 gift card to a running website (that has EVERYTHING running related)… WHAT WOULD YOU SPEND THE $100 on (details are appreciated)?
Some new Brooks shoes or gear!

4. Fill in the blank: If it is ________________ outside, I will not run outside. Would you then either choose to run on the treadmill or not at all?
Hotter than 85. I am a cold weather runner and can barely even handle 80-85 before I’ll succumb to the dreadmill.

5. If you could go on a run with any famous person or famous athlete… WHO would it be?
If Chris Pratt was a runner.. definitely him!

6. If you could go back in time and choose any race that you have done in the past and have that same experience all over again, which one would it be?
The St. Louis Half Marathon has been my favorite location, but the Germantown Half marathon was my best feeling physically and mentally! I’d do either of those again.

7. If your best friend decided to become a runner today and you could give her one piece of advice, WHAT WOULD THAT BE?!
Don’t be discouraged on an off day or off season! No one is at 100% all year.

8. What is one weird/different thing you do during your runs?
I love eating chocolate covered espresso beans as fuel (caffeine addict). I also think pretend I’m running on eggshells to make sure I’m not pounding my feet.

9. What is your usual race/hard run reward afterwards? A food/drink/other?
Chocolate milk and anything breakfast! An omelette or chocolate chip waffle (or both) !

10. What has been the biggest change in your running from when you very first started until now?
The longer I run, the more it just feels so natural. My fastest pace from two years ago is now my slowest pace and it just feels so unnatural not to go on a run. I also don’t avoid the hard stuff like hills and warm weather and speed work any more.

5. Kara Goucher, because she is awesome.
6. 2013 Ogden Marathon. I had 2 surgeries during training and had a cast on my arm up to my shoulder, and it was POURING rain the whole time. But I had the race of my life – I PRed by 24 minutes and beat my goal time/BQed by 13 minutes.
7. Sign up for a race! That helps so much with motivation and sticking to a consistent training schedule, and helps you get addicted really quick. :)
8. I absentmindedly type words or play violin notes with my fingers.
9. Always a Big Mac. I’ve had one after every marathon!
10. I focus on longer distance races now.

1.Immediately after a run? Probably a yummy peanut butter banana protein smoothie.
2.6 donuts
3.I would really like a good running jacket- moisture wicking, warm, but not too heavy.
4. Cold. I hate super cold runs- even with my ears covered that hurt so bad. I would probably skip running and go to the gym. I hate the treadmill.
5. Sarah Hall. Her running ability, faith in God and upbeat outlook on life would make for a good run.
6. St Louis Rock and Roll Half from October 2015- perfect weather, good race.
7. Keep it fun.
8. Scratch my belly button. Even in high school (oh so long ago), my belly button always itches during runs. Not in the belly button, but just all around it. My tummy after some runs is bright red from scratching it.
9. A large coke. I reward myself after a strong race with a huge plain fountain coke.
10. Hmmm…not sure.

1. Smoothie
2. Neither because I would probably get sick, but between the two, donuts.
3. I am in love with all things Brooks so it would be either some new shoes or a much needed sports bra:)
4. Raining and lightning
5. Will Ferrell, he is just hilarious!
6. Unfortunately, I haven’t done many races other than an occasional 5 k with work colleagues where I walked most of the way. My dream is to run a 5K without stopping.
7. Your goals are your own. You don’t need to impress anyone else.
8. I just make weird faces because I literally feel like I am going to die!
9. Beer with friends!
10. I am more realistic in setting goals.

1. Vanilla almond milk (sweetened of course) and fresh fruit. I can tend to have GI issues, so I try to squeeze in a small snack after my run until my stomach settles and can have a real meal. I used to drink vanilla almond milk all the time and would crave it after my runs on those hot and sticky summer days
3. Old Navy. com! I would buy their compression capri/full length leggings in high rise, all basic black (no print). I have millions of these already but I live in them. I’d also buy their tank tops and some of their adorable loungewear like this for post run. http://oldnavy.gap.com/browse/product.do?cid=1056804&pcid=1030828&vid=1&pid=600672002
4. If it is under 20 degrees or over 85 degrees I will not run outside. As for the treadmill, it depends. Is this weather going to last a few days? If yes, then I jump on the treadmill. If not, I’ll do weights or other cross training instead because the treadmill can be a little boring (unless I have shows to catch up on-so many variables for me!)
6. I would do my first half all over again. I did the women rock twin cities. It was mentally hard for me-I was battling an injury I didn’t know I had yet but my best friend and my parents showed up to support me and at one point in the race a song randomly played on my spotify that reminded me of a larger support system and I broke down in tears of happiness. greatest feeling ever!
10. My biggest challenge has been running non-stop. For some reason I will go months where I can do 3-4 miles without stopping and then something will happen (needing to take time off for work travels, weather, etc.) and it is so hard for me to push past those barriers (both mental and physical).

Well this is fun!
1. My absolute favorite after-run meal is pan-friend potatoes with onions, Lawry’s seasoning salt, crumbled bacon, shredded cheese, avocado and two drippy eggs on top. With a Grande 2-pump vanilla latte from Starbucks. Yummmmmm!
2. Would you rather have to eat 6 donuts or a large burrito in the middle of your next long run?
Either one would make me throw up, but we’ll go with the donuts for the simple carbs and lack of fiber so I don’t poo myself :-)
3. If I handed you a $100 gift card to a running website (that has EVERYTHING running related)… WHAT WOULD YOU SPEND THE $100 on (details are appreciated)? I am in DESPERATE need of new running clothes so I would choose Brooks and go insane in the clearance section since I hate paying full price for anything. Oooooh or Oiselle – love them too. Probably Brooks though.
4. If it is hot outside, I will not run outside. Basically anything over 80 with humidity. I live in Florida, so I can only run early in the morning (like 5am), but we’re moving to Rhode Island in 2 months and I’m going to be the happiest person on earth once fall rolls around!
5. Kevin Hart! He’s a runner, he’s hysterical, and he’s in awesome shape so I think he’d challenge/kill me in a workout.
6. My last 5K that I pr’ed in and won first in my age group – I wasn’t necessarily that fast, but it was a small race and I was beyond happy to PR – winning first in my age group was just icing on the cake!
7. Don’t let your bad runs ruin it for you. Everyone has bad runs, but the good ones more than make up for it!
8. Ummmm…I spit constantly. Especially if I’m running before 6am. I make sure not to spit on anyone, but I do tend to spit a lot.
9. I always have a beer or two in the afternoon on my long run Sundays. And chips to replenish the salt ;-)
10. Instead of running for weight loss I run because I enjoy it, which is a total 180 from when I first started and I hated it with a passion.

1. If you could have one meal that was in your kitchen and waiting for you to eat each day after your run, what would it be (for this meal we are pretending that anything/everything is fair game… it’s all healthy, nutritious and will help your recovery so say whatever you think would be the yummiest)?!?
Chocolate Milk and lasagna
2. Would you rather have to eat 6 donuts or a large burrito in the middle of your next long run?
Depends what time of day- but since I am a morning runner 6 donuts
3. If I handed you a $100 gift card to a running website (that has EVERYTHING running related)… WHAT WOULD YOU SPEND THE $100 on (details are appreciated)?
I would get a new hydration bag to carry on my back or a new fancy pair of running shoes
4. Fill in the blank: If it is – below 0 outside and icy outside, I will not run outside. Would you then either choose to run on the treadmill or not at all?
Run on the treadmill if I am training for something, if im not training for anything then I would maybe reschedule my run for another day of the week.
5. If you could go on a run with any famous person or famous athlete… WHO would it be?
Kara or Meb- I met Meb once at a local eatery in Chicago and he sat at the table behind us. He kindly took a picture with me. I was so star struck
6. If you could go back in time and choose any race that you have done in the past and have that same experience all over again, which one would it be? My first half marathon which is still my PR half time.
7. If your best friend decided to become a runner today and you could give her one piece of advice, WHAT WOULD THAT BE?! My best friend is a runner, my advice would be to just keep running, just keep running.
8. What is one weird/different thing you do during your runs? I love running with my dog until he trips me then I take a week off from running with him.
9. What is your usual race/hard run reward afterwards? A food/drink/other? Snickers or 100grand bar all the way
10. What has been the biggest change in your running from when you very first started until now? I have been running since I was in 7th grade and I wish I knew then what I know now. I wish I was more aware of my pace and time and splits.

1. Pizza and red wine
2. Donuts for sure!
3. Shorts with a cute pattern (why are most shorts solid colors?!?) and one of those super soft Oiselle shirts/sweatshirts to wear after my runs :)
4. If there is lightning, I won’t run. Or a hurricane (I live in Florida). I’d rather just skip the workout if it’s just one day.
5. Kara! She seems so nice and funny! But I’d probably be running full speed and she’d be power walking!
6. My first half: New Orleans Rock n Roll
7. Start slow and strength train even if it’s super boring
8. SING!
9. A turkey burger with fries and a beer has become my reward meal after a half marathon
10. I crave running, so I no longer have to convince myself that I’ll feel so much better after I’m done. Now I know I’ll enjoy the run and not just the endorphins after I’m done.

I would LOVE to run with President Trump. Mostly to encourage him to keep fighting for America despite some Americans fighting against him. I’d pray with him for strength and direction to lead him towards the finish line and I’d love to run with him because he’d probably run at my speed. :)

1. These days, a bowl of pineapple and black grapes. I can’t get enough.
2. If I HAD to, a burrito.
3. Right now I’m really wanting a Headsweats visor. I have a visor my mom gave me but it doesn’t do anything for sweat. I feel like I’m really embracing my suburban momness with a visor, but I don’t like hats or sun in my face. I LOVE the visor haha! I also would get some maternity workouts shirts this second, but would probably regret it since I’d only need them for a few more months – but I’m having a hard time finding any, so right now, a visor and maternity shirts!
4. I really hate it when it’s super cold after the snow starts to melt- I’m scared of slipping on ice and I run funny the entire time because of it. No treadmill, probably go to the spin room.
5. Ugh I don’t know…
6. Augusta Half Marathon
7. Sign up for a race- that’s what kept me motivated when I first started before I loved running for running.
8. Not sure. I feel like I end up spitting at some point – I can’t help it.
9. Diet Coke. I hate that I love it but I really, really do.
10. My attitude I’m sure. It started as a means to lose weight, which it still serves that goal to some extent (I used it to get back in shape after my son and will after this baby is born) but mostly I enjoy that time to myself. I enjoy running with someone here and there, but it’s a sanity saver for me; I just feel good in general and if something has been bugging me, it feels more manageable after I run.

What a fun way to comment!

1. salad topped with veggie burger and homemade spicy croutons!

2. 6 donuts

3. I need new running shoes bad so probably brooks and I’d throw in a tank if there was enough extra. If I didn’t need shoes, I’d go straight to gap.com and grab a new sports bra, tank, shorts and socks.

4. too hot or too cold. I am a fair weather running. yes, i would hit the treadmill with a weight class after.

5. I’d love to go on a run with either Jillian Michaels, Jennifer Widerstrom or Bob Harper. I would love to have some motivation from a great coach!

6. I’ve actually only ever done 1 race, a Halloween 5k. It was hard because I had just started running. I recently did a half on my own and I would love to repeat that!

7. Run for time, not distance in the beginning. Use an app to track it but dont have the distance cues alert you on your run.

8. I cannot run with anything in my hands. It stresses me out.

9. Nuun tablet in water!

10. Distance. I can finally go farther. Maybe next I can conquer speed. It’s all a mind game for me.

1. Nothing better than some chocolate milk! And then after that tacos with lots of quac!
2. 6 donuts — the sugar would keep me going!
3. I would splurge on some really good sunglasses so I could ditch my cheap-o $10 ones that always slip off my sweaty nose :)
4. If it is below 10 degrees outside, I will not run outside. I would do some sort of cardio video inside since I don’t have access to a treadmill.
5. Allyson Felix! She would have to slow way down so I could keep up!
6. The Hot Chocolate 5K that I PR’d in! It was a fantastic time for me — but I didn’t stretch after and ended up pulling my pelvis out of wack because my hip flexors tightene up! I would go back and stretch stretch stretch after. I definitely learned my lesson after that race.
7. Running a marathon is supposed to be hard. There’s no magic tip to make it easier!
8. I am not a fan of those hip belt/fanny pack things so I store my gels/waffles in my sports bra during my long runs.
9. Chocolate Milk then a long soak in the tub with epsom salt. And after I’m refueled and hydrated a tasty IPA beer!
10. I’m a lot smarter about mixing up the workouts (tempo, hills, intervals, long, resting) and I really savor the time to myself and think, reflect, meditate when I’m out there.

A giant burrito bowl/salad from my favorite Mexican restaurant, it has sweet potato fries, guacamole, pinto beans, rice, salsa and lettuce!

2. Would you rather have to eat 6 donuts or a large burrito in the middle of your next long run?
Definitely six donuts!

3. If I handed you a $100 gift card to a running website (that has EVERYTHING running related)… WHAT WOULD YOU SPEND THE $100 on (details are appreciated)?
I really want to try a new type of running shoe, I’ve always been a Nike , Brooks and Saucony fan- I would try some New Balance shoes!

4. Fill in the blank: If it is ________________ outside, I will not run outside. Would you then either choose to run on the treadmill or not at all?

a hurricane? I would run on the treadmill if I had power

5. If you could go on a run with any famous person or famous athlete… WHO would it be?

Molly Huddle, she is my favorite runner!

6. If you could go back in time and choose any race that you have done in the past and have that same experience all over again, which one would it be?

A half marathon in 2015 where I got my PR of 1:43, everything seemed like it lined up that day!

7. If your best friend decided to become a runner today and you could give her one piece of advice, WHAT WOULD THAT BE?!
Listen to your body, have fun!

8. What is one weird/different thing you do during your runs?
I have low blood sugar and low blood pressure, so I always make sure to have something with sugar and/or salt…I guess it’s not that weird

9. What is your usual race/hard run reward afterwards? A food/drink/other?
Food!! Usually something with carbs and protein

10. What has been the biggest change in your running from when you very first started until now?
Knowing that it’s okay to slow down!

1. fried eggs, smoked salmon and avocado on toasted fresh homemade bread
2. 6 donuts! (burping mexican food during a run is NOT fun!)
3. more expensive tank tops than I normally buy
4. If it is icy outside, I will not run outside. I’d be willing to run on the treadmill but more than likely if it’s too icy to run, it’s too icy for me to drive to the gym!
5. Kara Goucher and Al Roker (he CRACKS ME UP!)
6. Seaside, FL half marathon
7. be ok with YOUR starting point
8. I plan my day/life when I run – I joke that I need a voice recorder because all my best ideas and plans form while running – and i often forget them when I get home. Ha!
9. it’s not unusual – but beer and a burger is my favorite!
10. I care much less about pace if I am running with a friend – it’s more about the journey :)

4. Super windy – temperatures don’t bother me too much but I hate the wind
5. Hmm… Blake Lively is the first person that came to mind but I think that’s because I want her hair :)
6. The first 10k I did – it was the furthest I’d ran and I beat my goal time so I was pretty pumped
7. Invest in good shoes
8. I find myself counting steps with my fingers
9. Dark Chocolate
10. My speed and distance and also my knowledge on stretching and resting

1. I tend to eat eggs after my morning run but some nice fresh bread also sounds good.

2. 6 donuts.

3. A really fancy flip belt type thing – I need a new one but am afraid to spend the money on in in case I don’t like it.

4. Below 30 degrees. If I had a race coming up then I would run on the treadmill. If no race, then probably skip it.

5. If you could go on a run with any famous person or famous athlete… WHO would it be?
I have no idea – something to think about.

6. If you could go back in time and choose any race that you have done in the past and have that same experience all over again, which one would it be?
Bird -in-hand half marathon. It was so hot but such a great experience – loved running through Amish country.

7. Go to a running store and get fitted for proper shoes! Also, do it if you love it. Don’t force yourself to run just because you need a form of exercise. There’s no point forcing yourself to do something you don’t love.

8. I chew on my tongue (that sounds weird even as I type it!)

9. I don’t have one. I usually try to have something healthy after my run.

10. I’m training for a marathon which two years ago I wasn’t sure I’d be able to do a 5k.

My friend Ina has the best fresh eggs from her chickens. I love one of those over easy with a slice of provolone cheese on top….and sliced avacado!

2. Would you rather have to eat 6 donuts or a large burrito in the middle of your next long run? donuts, but I’d much rather have them after!

6. If you could go back in time and choose any race that you have done in the past and have that same experience all over again, which one would it be? Probably the Mercedes Birmingham Marathon – that’s where I qualified for Boston, and I NEVER felt bad for the entire 26.2 miles! Boston was awesome, but Birmingham will be the most special

NewImage

7. If your best friend decided to become a runner today and you could give her one piece of advice, WHAT WOULD THAT BE?! When you start feeling bad, or have a cramp, just keep going a little longer. If every mile after the first one felt as bad as the first one, I probably would never run. And relax and smile :)

8. What is one weird/different thing you do during your runs? I always have to be on the right of my running partner – crazy!

9. What is your usual race/hard run reward afterwards? A food/drink/other? chocolate milk right after, then Chick-fil-A!
