Fifteen pictures to describe our day. +headwind vs tailwind

1.  Andrew and Brooke came out to find me while I was out for my run and took the picture below.

Yesterday was one of those lucky runs where you have an annoying headwind on the way out and then when you turn around you feel like you fly all of the way home because of the tailwind.  I am pretty sure I had a negative split of about 5 minutes because of the wind.  On runs like this one you thank your lucky stars on the second half that you got the windy part over with so you can just cruise home.  You feel pretty cool about yourself when you see your pace change drastically too:)

PS don’t mind my mismatched socks.  It happens.  Also, people have asked me how my ankles don’t freeze but I honestly don’t even notice them being cold during a run unless the temperatures are in the teens and then I put on long socks.  A lot of running tights hit me above the ankles because I’m kind of tall.

PPS I listened to Spotify Radio (“Your Daily Mix”) and LOVED IT.  I’ve been so sick of my music playlists so it was fun to have Spotify choose what I was going to listen to and somehow they knew exactly what I wanted to hear.

2.  Nine miles total for the morning @ 7:40 average with Beretta playing fetch in the background.

3.  I sat on the sidewalk and attempted to stretch for a minute but then snuggling with Brooke was a much better idea.

IMG 3201

4.  A trip to Petco for some things for Beretta was on the agenda.

IMG 3210

5.  And then for lunch we picked up my mom to take out.  My dad was gone so it was just the four of us.  This picture reminded me that Brooke is GETTING TALL FAST.  HOW DOES THIS HAPPEN!?!?!

6.  She is a little too cool in Andrew’s sunglasses.

7.  And the other side of the table.

8.  We went to Malawis and it was amazing.  I had the steak balsamic salad with some of Andrew’s pizza and a bread twist.  I’ll be back for this salad soon.  Something awesome about this restaurant—>  for every meal bought, they donate a nutritious meal to a child in Malawi, Africa.

9.  We walked around a bit to see the Christmas decorations and Brooke’s life was made when someone gave her a candy cane.

IMG 3244

10.  My life was made when my mom and I split this adorable snowman caramel apple.

IMG 3249

11.  By that time it was time to go cheer on my nephew at his basketball game.  I don’t really get into sports very often but I had to use a lot of self control to keep my mouth closed during that game ha… I felt so stressed out the whole time.

12.  Little man didn’t have a care in the world.  I really have never seen a child smile as much (or as big) as this boy.  It is contagious and he gets strangers smiling all of the time when they see him.

IMG 3261

13.  After the game we stopped by one more Christmas outdoor celebration for a few minutes (I couldn’t handle the cold for that much longer so we didn’t stay long).

IMG 3280

14.  Of course these two found a new friend there.

IMG 3284

15.  We came home, made dinner and I will never ever get sick of this part of the day.

The wind in Arizona was crazy yesterday too! I went out for a 6 miles walk and thought I was going to be swept up like Dorothy. Definitely winter coming soon!

“(Sportify) somehow they knew exactly what I wanted to hear”. They know EXACTLY what you hear and want to hear because their system registers your interests and likes, just as Facebook does, so that when you are on Facebook you only read news regarding your political, social and cultural view. So so so scary.

Okay, that is really scary. I didn’t know that about Facebook.

Sadly, this morning was an early one for me — hubby’s been sick and so his snoring has been out of control! Does your hubster snore? Just me?

I love windy runs — but my dry skin always chaps :( I’ve learned to use a balm on my cheeks to prevent/treat wind burns.

Reply

My husband snores, too! It keeps me up and sometimes wakes me up. When it’s really bad, I give up and sleep in the recliner by the wood stove.

Reply

Sadly, I am the snoring one in this household… poor Andrew. I am SO sorry Susie that you were up early due to snoring and that he is not feeling well!

Up early, windy run !!! And now breakfasting. those snuggle photos warm my heart!

No running for me. I had my sweet baby boy Thursday and am recovering but loving the baby snuggles! Sleeping as you can probably tell was hit or miss but it’s been so worth! Learning to love this new way of life.

That’s so funny, I did a fartlek a few days ago and the wind was doing the same thing-20 mph in my fave out, 20 mph at my back, back. Made the fartlek a new kind of torture which is sickly pretty fun.
That caramel apple looks so cute!

it was pretty windy for my run yesterday too! I end up in ankle length pants most of the time too – only when it’s super cold do I switch to full length. love that cute snowman apple!

I’ll be honest, I’m a wimpy runner. Unless the conditions are close to perfect (no wind, no ice, not too hot, not too cold) I hit the treadmill. Which is weird now that I think about it, because I’ll hike under almost any conditions. I mean, I won’t go above tree line in a thunderstorm, but I’ll hike rain, snow, or sun. But heaven forbid a raindrop touch me while I run!

No weekend runs. It rained all day. I spent my time at the gym doing other stuff.
I also did not sleep in because of my baby who then woke up everyone else. It was bound to happen.
Also I’ve never been into Carmel apples but your blog makes them look so yummy that I think I need to revisit them.

Janae, how in the world did you eat that apple? Looks crazy delish but I’m thinking I would be dropping stuff all over the place, making a mess and a spectacle of myself!! Were you able to sit down and cut it apart?

Reply

YES!!! So I took a picture of it before they cut it up for us:) I needed a picture of how cute it was before they cut it ha! We just ate it while we walked:) Oh that would have been impossible to eat without cutting up haha… but if I had to I would have;) I hope you have a fabulous week melissa!

Looks like a great weekend for you. Brooke looks hilarious in those shades.

My weekend runs have been all over the place. Honestly Yesterday was super rough but today was a lot better.

I was out on a run on Wednesday, didn’t notice the wind until I turned round. Then it felt quite cold. Today we slept in for a bit, ate breakfast with the family and I then left to run with my two friends. We ran a new to me route, through the frosty fields. It was so beautiful because the sun was shining too. The wind had shifted a bit since Wednesday, so today we had tailwind on the way back. Much nicer.

Currently reading your blog while running on the treadmill while baby sleeps! Where’s the apple from?? I want one!

Reply

HEY MAGGIE!!! Oh I used to always run on the treadmill while Brooke was napping too:) Good memories! The apple is from Rocky Mountain Chocolate Factory! If you have one close, please go! Or I should mail you one!

It’s been windy in the morning here is SoCal this week too! Tuesday, I felt like I had a headwind the entire time… that’s so not fair! :P
I’m having a foot issue, not sure exactly what it is, so this weekends’ runs have been on the elliptical… 8miles yesterday and 11 miles today. Not my favorite way to get in longish runs, but necessary to keep the impact off my foot for a while.
Happy Sunday everyone!! :)

Reply

Yup, Lora and I ran 10 miles yesterday and we had NO idea it was windy until we turned around at the 5 mile point. GAH.

Omgosh that is how I feel at my kids games! Stressed and trying not to cheer too loud! So nerve racking when you cheer for someone you love. And I was thinking the other day if I hear my playlist one more time I will go crazy lol! I think I need new jams in my life:)
Off to cheer and be nervous at my son’s soccer game, he’s goalie!

Reply

YES YES YES!!! You are so right! Hope your son’s soccer game was a great one! Enjoy your week Christina!

I ran an out and back race yesterday and fought a headwind the entire way back.

My fiancé and I are in Seattle, so we are getting to eat fabulous, fresh, healthy food that I don’t have to make! That’s a huge treat for me :)

We got our first snowfall here in Iowa and it was the really wet and heavy snow and coming down like crazy all day so I went to the treadmill for my 8 miles today. Wind doesn’t bother me too much unless it’s paired with cold, then it’s a no go for me!
That caramel apple looks amazing!

Reply

AHHHH good call on hitting up the treadmill today! I hope the snow looks beautiful… just in time for all of the holidays right?!

I was so excited when I read about the restaurant you went to that donates to Malawi. That is where I am right now for my Peace Corps service! It is hungry season here… getting food will be a struggle until the harvest in March. You helped a good cause :)
I had a great weekend treat… my friends sent me a care package with chocolate chips and syrup so I had the most delicious pancakes! Perfect treat after a long, hot run lol

Reply

Another tall person here, and i find the Athleta tights to be the greatest things ever. Most of them come in tall sizes which is awesome and prevents a lot of bare ankles!

Reply

Oh that caramel apple looks sooo tasty!! That salad looked so yummy!

Reply

Every time you have a photo with the mountains in the background, it makes me want to visit more and more! They look so beautiful!
I know recently you recommended some Brooks tights for winter running but have you tried any others that do not slip down and stay pretty well put while running? Finding that perfect pair has always been a challenge for me

Reply

The mountains in the background of that picture do not even look real. So beautiful!
Weekend treats…Costco’s Dark chocolate toasted coconut cashews. They’re addicting!

Reply

What have your weekend runs looked like? Kinda cool in the 30’s and 40’s..which I love for running :)

Anyone else have a windy run? YES! So windy!

Did you sleep in today or get up early? Today I had to get up early b/c it’s Monday/my son was early morning wrestling practice. I ran after dropping him off/before work.

Any good treats this weekend? YES! It was my daughters birthday weekend. Gyro’s, pizza, cake, and cookies before the weekend was over. Plus yummy potato and kale soup yesterday.

I cannot get over how beautiful you’re state must be. The snow covered mountain in the background of the pic with your Mom and Brooke, I just can’t get over that’s it’s real. The mountain looks like a fake backdrop. And it’s in so many of your photo’s. Gorgeous. I feel like I’m missing out here in cornfield IL. You’re nephew and his smiles are amazing. Totally contagious. I could just squeeze him right through the screen he’s so adorable.
