The Weekend Fifteen!!!

1.  Our turkey hats for the race showed up at our door Saturday morning.  Don’t worry Andrew, we can use them next year for our annual Turkey Trot 1/2 Marathon;)

2.  A few treadmill miles + This Is Us + a big mug of water.

IMG 2785

3.  The kids and Beretta then did their daily strides barefoot to help quicken their leg turnover;)

IMG 2796

4.  The most amazing Lindsey took our family pictures.  She is the best, I have missed her.  She is off to AUSTRALIA this week!

Beretta is even in a few of the pictures.

IMG 2800

5.  Eggs + sweet potato + avocado.

IMG 2802

6.  A quick stop to the park for some baseball practice.  SHORT SLEEVES on 11/26 in Utah?!?!  It did cool down later on in the day but it was in the high 50s for the afternoon!

IMG 2803

7.  They did find a little bit of snow in the shadows and made sure to thoroughly investigate it.

IMG 2805

8.  I haven’t had a real Christmas tree in a very long time and so the search for the perfect one for our house was very exciting.

IMG 2811

9.  Knox got the ‘look of pure happiness while at Costco’ thing from his dad.  It’s their happy place.

IMG 2817

10.  Peppermint Bark is one of my favorites… the combination of peppermint and chocolate together is a winner.  PLEASE SHARE any recipes that you have and love that combines these two great ingredients.

IMG 2816

11.  Any other mom’s out there that hear the question WHY? approximately 4,000 times a day?

IMG 2821

12.  The finished product:

IMG 2837

13.  You’ll find us on the couch by the tree for the next month.

IMG 2844

14.  Decorating for Christmas all evening ended with a few bites of frosting and sprinkles because they are not yet to the place where they have any desire to eat the other part of the donut.

IMG 2832

15.  I wanted to share some ridiculously comfortable clothing that Brooks sent on over!   I’ve been living in the Chaser Pant and Dash Hoodie the last little bit.   I love the pants because of the flattering fit that isn’t skin tight… they are so comfortable. The hoodie is so crazy soft and perfect for this time of year.   Both pieces are great for the run, relaxing or going out to do errands!

When I lived/worked in a group home for at risk kiddos, the words I heard most often from the boys were “why” and “watch this!”
My dad gave me the best advice when I started working with them-little boys will try to impress you. Your only job is to be impressed. Turned out to be true!
Love peppermint bark over here too! Chicago is getting cold here, let the winter season wreak havoc… :)

Ran 5 miles yesterday nice and easy along with a running podcast. It was divine!

Chocolate paired with mint as in peppermint patties are an all year round favorite for me.
I am a big fan of harry and David moose munch this time of year though. I think it’s dark chocolate drizzled on the equivalent of cracker jacks. Glazed Popcorn and nuts of some sort. I never really pay attention as I shovel it in. Lol.

No running still for me this weekend. I’m due a week from tomorrow and not running is killing me, but it’s best for my body during the last several weeks! We went out and got our Christmas tree and decorated it last night. Real trees are my favorite thing! :)

i don’t hear why very much anymore probably because my son doesn’t care to ask for my opinion these days lol. Love peanut butter and chocolate! I don’t like peppermint.

Hello! I loved these pictures. The kids seem so happy. The look of pure joy in Knox’s face is amazing.
Also I think you should consider you might have some future csi or detectives in your family. Their investigative skills look impressive.
Your tree is beautiful. I just put mine up this morning while listening to Christmas music.
Unfortunately I am allergic to chocolate (I know, it’s sad) but I still get to eat plenty of sweet and delicious things so I’m good.
Have a great Sunday!

Wow! Such a beautiful tree! Our tree will be up this afternoon, can’t wait! I hear mom and why a thousand times a day but now that he is 7, the questions that come after get more and more philosophical and complicated ha

Peppermint and marshmallows are always nearby if I’m having hot chocolate.

The thing I hear most from my youngest daughter is actually a phrase: “Not without you.” It is sweet (like when I tell her it is time to read books) and also super annoying (like when I tell her to go potty before we leave the house).

Chocolate and caramel is definitely my favorite combination!

I have the dash hoodie in two colors because I love it so much! Outdoor running here this weekend. It’s been in the 50s, so it’s perfect outdoor running weather :)

I have a few pieces of activewear that I wear all the time. The video of moms in activewear is so true in my house. I love chocolate with peanut butter. It is everything!!!! I have been running outside this weekend but today will probably be a treadmill run so I can finish up Gilmore Girls. Love the turkey hats and can’t wait to see them make their debut next Thanskgiving.

That activewear video is hysterical!

I did a little treadmill running and a little outdoor running this weekend. Friday is normally my day off from running, but I had the gym all to myself that day which meant every single treadmill was free. It was too hard to pass up the opportunity to pick any one, so I did a short run before weightlifting :)

Your sweet potato, egg and avocado plate is something I am going to have to try!

Sadly I’m still not able to run this weekend. I’m hoping to go for a walk though (crazy how quickly our goals can change).
I’m checking out those pants. I prefer bottoms that aren’t skin tight and it looks like those have pockets? Too good to be true! I have a couple pairs of sweats and sweatshirts that are my favorite to wear around the house. They’re comfy and easy to wash the dog hair off, which is important when you have two dogs that shed a ton.

Use a cheese grater and grate the peppermint bark, then bake a pan of brownies and once it comes out of the oven use the bark as a topping! It will set back up on top of the brownies once they are cool.

Reply

Hannah, that sounds absolutely amazing. I will be doing this. THANK YOU!!!

Reply

Peppermint and chocolate is by far my favorite! I need to go hunt down that peppermint bark!

Reply

I have a recipe you’ll LOVE if you love peppermint and chocolate combo. Get boxed brownie mix and prep according to box but then when you go to put it in a pan…. change it up. Pour only half the batter into the pan and then break up York Peppermint Patties into a layer on top of the batter.. then pour the rest of the batter on top. Bake as usual and you’ll have amazing brownies w peppermint patties in the middle ;)

Okay Ashlee, I am drooling just reading your recipe. I will be making these for me and my mom.. this is something she would LOVE too! THANK YOU and I hope you are having a beautiful day!

I love to lounge around in leggings and oversized sweatshirts……………feels so comfy! And my favorite thing with chocolate is probably more chocolate! Ha, but peanut butter and caramel are good, too! Today is a run outside…although I may have to wear a hat……….it is a little chilly!

Reply

I won’t run outdoors if it’s icy…cold I’m fine with but no ice.

I actually have the dash hoodie from Brooks too. I really enjoy running in it…It’s super comfortable. One day we can run together and be matchy matchy…

Peppermint chocolate. for sure, or maybe its just the spirit this time of year!?
Run outside, it was gorgeous here too!
Love those pants

For my daughters private school they do. A cookie walk fundraiser every December. Every family at the school makes 8 dozen Christmas/holiday cookies. It’s my first year so I’m trying Pioneer Women’s Pepermint dipped chocolate cookies!!! And yes they are amazing tasting!!

Reply

I think I need those pants! Those look amazing. I think yoga pants/running tights are some of the most comfy things for home. And fuzzy socks and sometimes a stocking cap because I’m always cold!
Peppermint and chocolate for the win, for sure. Williams-Sonoma’s peppermint hot cocoa mix is the best this time of year!

I have a passionate hate for peppermint bark but with a reason. I made a bunch of it as gifts for coworkers one year. And after bagging it all up I promptly got the worst stomach flu I have ever had. I could not even look at it or smell it so my husband had to throw it away!! Still to this day, if I see it I have feel sick. In fact your picture made me queasy and I am not kidding.
I am starting a tradition with my girls in which we make a batch of cookies each week ( or maybe two) and give out “random cookie kindness bags”. We started at church today. An easy Christmas think of others activity!! But NO peppermint bark.

Reply

Oh Carrie, I am SO SO SORRY!!! I will never post peppermint bark again either:) Okay, I love your idea… that is so so sweet Carrie! Enjoy the rest of your Sunday with your girls!

Western Canada is crazy warm, I’ve never seen a November like this…outdoor running this weekend! I LOVE the turkey hats, I need one and your tree is absolutely beautiful!

So glad that you are able to get out and enjoy the weather this crazy November! Thank you Jade and enjoy the rest of your Sunday!

I did spin class yesterday and ran a 5K today. It was chilly but good running weather.

Afterwards we ran a few errands, hit a new bakery (so good they have homemade poptarts) and decorated the house. No tree yet, too much for one day.

Andrew, I would lose those hats before next Thanksgiving.

These chocolate peppermint bars are pretty much the BEST dessert I’ve ever had. Make at your own risk!

My four year old is going through a math phase and time telling phase. If he isn’t asking you addition problems, he’s asking to see your watch, your phone, or looking at the clock on the microwave.
PB and chocolate is the best combo. I tried the peppermint hot chocolate at IHOP yesterday, it was delicious!

The Trader Joes white chocolate peppermint pretzels are delicious!! My TJs sells out every year. And my little one just says “No” to everything….even when she means yes. :/

Where did you get your table? I’ve been looking for something like that!

Reply

Hey Shawna!!! hahaha oh the NO stage.. that is sure a fun one;) Okay and those pretzels are AMAZING. Thank you for reminding me! We will have to go to TJs asap! Okay so my table is from RC Willey and I can’t find it online… we got it in the store but I could email you a picture of the full table if you would like?!

Love the turkey hats! One of my friends wore hers for the holiday and just like Andrew, her husband was not impressed.

I have an embarrassingly large collection of Spiritual Gangster sweatshirts. They are the most comfortable loungy sweatshirts I’ve ever owned!!!!

Chocolate and peanut butter is a perfect combo….but I also love it with candied ginger….and I will never tire of the chocolate + peppermint combo.

For me it’s either outdoor running or no running. I give you so much credit for being able to run on a treadmill. I just don’t have it in me!!!!

Love your tree!!!!

I just bought my niece that same owl shirt, so cute =) chocolate and peppermint is my favorite! If you can find them, Lindt makes the BEST white chocolate peppermint truffles!

I’m a big fan of making coffee, putting Hershey’s syrup instead of sugar, plus creamer, then I found peppermint spray whipped cream at the grocery store! It’s a peppermint-mocha-latte that isn’t over powering. So yummy for the peppermint-chocolate cravings!

Our brand new treadmill has been getting a lot of use lately, since it gets dark around 5ish. Best investment!
My go-to holiday recipe is this mint chocolate chip cookie recipe:
http://www.bettycrocker.com/recipes/mint-chocolate-chip-cookies/22bebeda-ea36-441a-9909-ae78409d6da6
but instead of chocolate chips and crème de menthe chips, I’ve been known to crush Andes mints and toss them in there. They are bananas!

Oh, the ‘why’s’! So, so many of them … And about the most absurd things, ‘why is that dog a labrador?’ …………………….. Got no idea, kid. It just is. I say ‘because I said so’ many, many times a day – especially when she asks why when I tell her to do or not do something!
