A perfect and flat dirt trail right next to Andrew’s Grandparents’ house in Apple Valley.

Just a fancy shadow picture while out for my run.

7 miles for me later this afternoon. I’m going to run by the ocean just hours before tropical storm Hermine visits :) ok maybe I’m exaggerating a little. Lol. Can’t wait for the “breeze” though.

Looks like a great start for an awesome weekend!

I live about 2 hours north of LA. We are currently at the central coast and I got a nice 7.75 along PCH and I grabbed a coffee & donuts for the kiddos and walked the last .25. It was a good start to a great day!

Yep… I live in Orange County (Fullerton), very close to Disneyland and Angels stadium :)
I need to get out the door for 5ish miles, then lots of family time for the weekend!
Have a great time out here!

I’m jealous of the helicopter ride! I got to fly one once for work. I’m pretty sure they only let me think I was in control, though…

Also, I don’t normally post stuff like this, but today is the last day to comment on the Grand Canyon Escalade development project. You can read more about it on my blog, or Adventure Journal, or Save the Confluence. Just FYI, if you have strong feelings about it…

We live in Simi Valley (between LA and Santa Barbara) – home to the Reagan Library. You picked a great weekend to come – the weather is pretty perfect.

8 miles today, my second long run for this training cycle and my pace was spot on.

Seems like you guys are having a fun weekend away!

So much fun! As a kid, we lived in Victorville which is close to Apple Valley. Enjoy your family time!

Probably a treadmill run cause the weather here in South Florida is currently too warm / too humid.

Orange City? <—I'm in SoCal (born and raised) and have never heard of this?

Maybe City of Orange?

We lived down by Joshua Tree for a little while. It was quite the place. We came to Apple Valley once to complete a reverse tri. THAT was fun! I was 26 (?) weeks pregnant at the time. Slow, but done! :) We went on a family run this morning – 4 miles + play time at the park on the trail. Just what we all needed!

I’m in Southern California in Montclair, small city about 30 minutes away from Orange County.

I wasn’t going to exercise at all today but I need to make my steps goal so I will probably do a treadmill run tonight.

I did a hike yesterday so my legs are a bit sore.

Yes Cali native here! Welcome back. I’m about 20 minutes away from City of Orange (probably the same as Orange City). Yes natives call it City of Orange. Have no idea why! Have a great rest of the long weekend!

I’m from SD and miss it terribly! An ex boyfriend and I went rock climbing in Apple Valley once, I remember it being a cool desert town. :) I finally had an amazing run today because it was 60 degrees out! We’re in Nebraska for the weekend for the football game and I’m going to try to get in as many runs as I can in nice weather!

Yep So Cal girl here. I live “down the hill” from Apple Valley in a a town that gets its props occasionally on TV and movies- Rancho Cucamonga.

No running for me, but I’m hoping to take my boys out for a walk with the double stroller this evening.

Reply

Haha- “down the hill” My husband is from AV (we live in Chicago) and my inlaws CONSTANTLY use that phrase! :) I didn’t think “the hill” was a giant mountain. Before I visited, I had pictured a little 100ish foot hill…too funny!

Is it still pretty hot there? :)

Hi Janae!

Looks like a great trip so far!

I live in Newport Beach…. so many readers live around where you are… we should have a meet up over froyo:))

You just have the most awesome life

Same reaction- Orange City? I googled it but I couldn’t find anything. I grew up in Anaheim Hills which is exactly 5 minutes from Orange, or sometimes called the City of Orange, but never literally never heard anyone call it Orange City- literally why I googled to see if that was some extra town I had somehow never heard of. This is going to drive me nuts now!

And yes, to the above. California has lots of fruit themes- Orange was full of orange groves once upon a time- Disneyland was built on an orange grove and there are historic orange groves you can visit. And Apply Valley (at least used to) have apple trees. Now up in Julian there’s Apple orchards still!

I grew up in Anaheim Hills but I live in Sacramento now!

Hi Emily! You are right, it is actually called City of Orange! I am not from around here so I didn’t realize that people don’t call it Orange City. Thanks for reading! Have a great day!

My Saturday run turned in to a speed walk with 2 life long friends that I haven’t seen in years. We walked because none of us can talk while running. Our kiddos all rode their bikes. We went through a beautiful campground, then down by the lake, where all the kids found sticks, and fishing line, tied rocks to them and they ‘fished’ while we chatted. Weather was perfect too. The kind of friends where you haven’t seen in such a long time, but you picked up right where you left off. I love that. Best day ever. Oh and a picnic lunch and kids playing in the sand of course.

Ah the pool sounds fantastic! I’d love to live in a house with a pool!

This is a bit late — but Saturday was my long run day and I rocked 16 miles! The south is experiencing some stormy weather (thank you tropical storm Hermine), so it POURED all day Friday. Schools got released early and the temps/humidity DROPPED!

Running temps were ideal by Saturday morning — slightly windy, no humidity, and high 60’s low 70’s until around 11am. BOMB!!

Bonus — jumping over down branches kept the run interesting! :D

Looks like you guys had a blast!!!

My inlaws live in Apple Valley and that’s where my husband grew up! I wonder if they know Andrew’s grandpa! :) We live in Chicago but visit AV once a year. There’s a 5ish mile loop that we run when we visit that includes a horribly long hill (we don’t do hills in Chicago! :)) on Seneca I think. There are some neat cactus around there too. :) Looks like you had a great visit. I’m not a big “commenter” but your wedding pix were just beautiful and definitely got me misty. :) Glad to see how great things are going for you and Brooke!
